Rats increase their rate of operant responding for 1% sucrose reinforcement in the first half of an experimental session if a high-valued reinforcer will be available in the second half. Previous research suggests that this induction effect occurs because the reinforcing value of the low-valued substance has increased. The present study investigated whether this increase may occur because of where the substances are delivered. Rats pressed a lever to earn 1% liquid-sucrose reinforcers in the first half of the session. In control conditions, they also pressed for 1% sucrose in the second half. In treatment conditions, they pressed for food-pellet (Experiment 1) or 32% sucrose (Experiment 2) reinforcers in the second half, with these reinforcers either being delivered to the same location as the 1% sucrose or to a different location. Upcoming food-pellet or 32% sucrose reinforcement increased rates of lever pressing for 1% sucrose in the first half of the session, with the largest increase observed when the high-valued reinforcer was delivered to the same location as the 1% sucrose. Qualitatively similar results were found with rates of consumption of 1% sucrose reinforcers in the first half of the session, which were measured in Experiment 2. The location to which reinforcers are delivered appears to be one of the factors that contributes to this induction effect. The present results may therefore identify one of the factors that determine whether differential conditions of reinforcement will lead to contrast or induction. 相似文献

Previous studies have shown that the interoceptive nicotine conditional stimulus (CS) functions similarly to exteroceptive CSs such as lights or environments. For instance, the appetitive conditioned response (CR) evoked when nicotine is repeatedly paired with sucrose presentations (the unconditioned stimulus; US) is sensitive to changes in training dose (CS salience) and the contiguity between the CS effects and sucrose. The current study was conducted to extend this research by examining the possible role of US intensity in CR acquisition and maintenance. Rats were trained using one of four sucrose concentrations: 0, 4, 16, or 32% (w/v). On nicotine sessions (0.4 mg base/kg), rats received 36 deliveries (4 s each) of their assigned concentration intermittently throughout the session; sucrose was withheld on saline sessions. In all groups, an appetitive goal-tracking CR was acquired at a similar rate. However, the asymptotic CR level varied with sucrose concentration. The magnitude of the CR was increased in rats trained with higher sucrose US concentrations. These findings are consistent with previous Pavlovian conditioning research, and extend the conditions under which the nicotine state functions as an interoceptive conditional stimulus. 相似文献

Different groups of rats received different amounts of training to lever press for a food reinforcer before an aversion was conditioned to the food. This devaluation of the reinforcer reduced responding in both subsequent extinction and reinforced tests of responding to a degree that was independent of the amount of instrumental training. Moreover, interpolating context extinction between aversion conditioning and the extinction test reduced the magnitude of the devaluation effect, thereby indicating that Pavlovian contextual conditioning may play a role in the instrumental devaluation effect. 相似文献

Sulphite at concentrations from 0.05 to 5.0 mM was supplied to illuminated,
detached poplar (Populus deltoides Bart. ex Marsh)
leaves via the transpiration stream. The rate of CO2 fixation and
partitioning of newly fixed carbon between sucrose and starch were measured
and compared with the contents of selected phosphorylated intermediates,
the contents of fructose-2,6-bisphosphate (Fru2,6BP) and the activation of
sucrose-phosphate synthase (SPS). Supplying leaves with 0.5 mM sulphite led to an increase in the
sucrose/starch partitioning ratio without altering the rate of
14CO2 fixation. The increase in sucrose synthesis
compared to starch synthesis was accompanied by relatively small changes of
3-phosphoglyceric acid (PGA), fructose-1,6-bisphosphate (Fru1,6BP), hexose
phosphates (hexose-)), uridine 5'-diphosphoglucose (UDPGlc), an
accumulation of triose phosphates (triose-P), an activation of SPS, and
decreased Fru2,6BP contents. Supplying leaves with 1.0 mM sulphite
decreased 14CO2 assimilation and increased
partitioning of fixed carbon into starch. A selective inhibition of sucrose
synthesis was accompanied by an accumulation of triose-P, Fru1,6BP,
hexose-P, and a decrease of PGA contents. There was also a large increase
of Fru2,6BP contents and a decline in the activation of SPS. It could be
argued that sulphite affects the allocation of photosynthetic carbon to
sucrose and that sulphite can inhibit photosynthesis via a selective

The effect of sucrose on the rate of de novo sucrose biosynthesis in leaf protoplasts from spinach, wheat and barley 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Protoplasts from the leaves of wheat, spinach, and barley were found to synthesize [14C]sucrose from 14CO2 at rates comparable with those of the parent tissue. CO2 fixation and sucrose biosynthesis ceased virtually immediately when the light was switched off. The effect of sucrose pretreatment on the rate of de novo sucrose biosynthesis was found to vary with leaf age and with plant species. Protoplasts from young wheat and spinach leaves showed an apparent stimulation of the rate of sucrose biosynthesis after sucrose pretreatment. In protoplasts from mature leaves of spinach, sucrose pretreatment produced inhibition. After sucrose pretreatment protoplasts from mature spinach leaves showed low rates of CO2 fixation, and sucrose biosynthesis compared with controls. Conversely, with protoplasts from mature leaves of wheat and barley, the rate of CO2 fixation was unchanged and there was little or no effect on the rate of sucrose biosynthesis after sucrose pretreatment. Preincubation with sucrose had no effect on the activity of sucrose-phosphate synthetase (EC 2.4.1.14), cytoplasmic fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (EC 3.1.3.11), or UDPglucose pyrophosphorylase (EC 2.7.7.9) from spinach leaves. It was concluded that there is no direct feedback inhibition of sucrose on the sucrose biosynthetic pathway in leaves of spinach, wheat, and barley. The mechanism of inhibition of sucrose biosynthesis by sucrose in spinach remains to be elucidated. 相似文献

1-phosphotransferase (PFK) and pyrophosphate-dependent fructose-6-phosphate 1-phosphotransferase (PFP) were measured. Chlorophyll
fluorescence parameters appeared to be unaffected by sulphite. Application of ≥ 1.0 mM sulphite led to an increase in the
content of Fru2,6BP and starch. There was also a decline in the activity of SPS, NI and PFK. On the other hand, the influence
of sulphite on the activity of AI and PFP was negligible. Specific activity of SuSy was inhibited by 1.0 and 2.5 mM but activated
by 5.0 mM of sulphite. On the basis of the results obtained in the present study, we postulate that sulphite at concentrations
≥ 1.0 mM inhibits primarily sucrose synthesis, favours starch accumulation and has an indirect effect on the sucrolytic activities

The metabolic and hormonal responses to an intensive single-circuit weight-training session were studied in 15 untrained male students. The training programme consisted of ten exercises, employing all the large groups of muscles. Students performed three circuits using a work-to-rest ratio of 30 s:30 s at 70% of one-repetition maximum. The whole programme lasted 30 min. Blood samples were obtained from the anticubital vein 30 min before exercise, immediately after exercise finished and after 1-h, 6-h, and 24-h periods of recovery. The training session produced significant increases in the plasma adrenocorticotropic hormone, cortisol, aldosterone, testosterone, progesterone and somatotropin concentrations. The plasma level of insulin and C-peptide remained unchanged. The strength exercises caused elevated ratios of cortisol:testosterone and cortisol:insulin, indicating a prevalence of stimulation of catabolic processes as well as of mobilization of energy reserves but during the recovery period the reverse of this was observed. Immediately after exercise the mean lactate concentration was 7.19 mmol.l-1, SD 0.56, the glucose concentration increased significantly during exercise and decreased rapidly during recovery. The high density lipoprotein-cholesterol increased in 1-h period of recovery compared with the initial level. The concentration of total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol and triglyceride, did not change. Packed cell volume did not change during exercise or recovery. 相似文献

Tornstam regards gerotranscendence as the final stage in a natural process towards maturity and wisdom, that can be described as a shift in meta-perspective which accompanies the process of aging: from a materialistic and rational perspective to a more cosmic and transcendent one. The present study contributes to the development of a by Tornstam used gerotranscendence scale, and looks for theoretically expected relations between gerotranscendence and psychosocial variables such as life satisfaction, death attitude, and recently experienced life crises. The relation between gerotranscendence and dimensions of religion and faith will also be examined. Participants were 120 older adults, 58 men and 62 women, aged 45-92 years. The scores on the gerotranscendence scale were not congruent, neither with the hypothetical threefold apriori scales, nor with the factor structure Tornstam had found in his research. An exploratory factor analysis yielded three factors which were to a certain extent reconcilable with the gerotranscendence theory. The subscales are Transcendent connection, Active involvement and coherence, and Attachment to life and material goods. Older respondents and respondents who experienced one or more life crises, have higher scores on Transcendent connection. The experience of connection seems to be related to dimensions of religion and faith. The results warrant further research into a measurement of gerotranscendence and the relation with dimensions of religion and faith. 相似文献

NAD-dependent 15-hydroxy-prostaglandin dehydrogenase (PGDH) activity was measured in homogenates of 25 human placentae obtained between 7 and 17 weeks of gestation. PGDH activity, expressed in nanomoles PGF2α metabolized per min, ranged from 0.2 to 5.4 nmoles per mg placental protein and from 1.5 to 80 nmoles per g wet weight. PGDH activity per mg protein and per g weight increased significantly in function of gestational age (p<0.001). Between 7–8 weeks' gestation and 15–16 weeks mean values increased tenfold from 0.4 to 3.0 nmoles per mg protein and from 2.7 to 36.6 nmoles per g wet weight. Per unit of weight these early placentae contained less PGDH activity than term controls, but this related mainly to their high water content. Per mg placental protein PGDH activities already equalled values found at term before the end of the first trimester. The data indicate that the development of terminal villi and the migration of trophoblast into the maternal spiral arteries is associated with a substantial increase in the placental capacity for prostaglandin metabolism. 相似文献
