Comparative analysis of nucleotide sequences of gene 18S of ribosome RNA was carried out. The results show that the genetic sequences of the given locus could be used as a molecular marker to identify the species of planaria irrespective of ontogenetic stage. The articles deals with problem of specific determination of cocoons of Baikal planaria from the stomach of Baikal black grayling using comparative analysis of nucleotide sequences of ribosome RNA fragments with known sequences determined earlier for Baikal planaria. The cocoons belong to two species of Rimacephalus. The authors discuss also the importance of feeding relationships of planaria and benthophage fish to investigate the biotic factors that influence the evolution of Baikal planaria.  相似文献

The morphological characters, molecular-genetic features, and patterns of the dorsal fin in different subspecies and forms of Arctic grayling Thymallus arcticus populating Lake Baikal and its tributaries, Irkutsk Reservoir, and Lake Khubsugul have been studied. Three groups are discernable. The first includes the white and black Baikal graylings T. a. baicalensis, as well as the western Siberian T. a. arcticus; the second group is represented by the Kosogol grayling T. a. nigrescens, and the third is composed of T. arcticus ssp. from the Yakchii lakes (the Verkhnyaya Angara basin) with a phenotype close to graylings populating the upper reaches of the Lena River. All of them are distinguished by some morphological characters, elements of the dorsal fin pattern, and by body coloration. The populations of black Baikal graylings are genetically uniform, and their distinctions from white Baikal graylings are insignificant, which agrees with the absence of a considerable divergence of these forms by a complex of meristic characters. It is assumed that in the black and white Baikal graylings the exchange by genetic information has either ceased quite recently, or persists, although, insignificantly. Some genetic remoteness of the west Siberian grayling from Irkutsk Reservoir and Nizhnyaya Tunguska, closely related to the Baikal grayling, is recorded. The formation of the Khubsugul subspecies is possibly a result of the contact of grayling populations during the rearrangements of the river system in the last glaciation period in the upper reaches of Yenisei and Selenga in Mongolia. The habitation in the Baikal system of the Upper Lena graylings indicates a connection between the Lena and Baikal basins in the past. The results of a multivariate analysis of meristic characters and the sequences of mitochondrial DNA confirm the conclusion made by Svetovidov (1931, 1936), concerning the absence of grounds to assign a species status to the Baikal forms.  相似文献

The origin and genetic relationships of the Baikal seal, Phoca sibirica, were studied by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). Using 17 different six-base recognition restriction endonucleases, we examined 98 Baikal seals, and two other related species, the ringed seal, P. hispida, (n=87), and the Caspian seal, P. caspica, (n=94). Analysis revealed the existence of 87 mtDNA haplotypes in the total of 279 specimens. The haplotypes of each species were divided into different clusters on a dendrogram obtained by UPGMA based on haplotype frequency and mtDNA base substitution. No common haplotypes were found among the species examined. The Baikal seal is much more closely related to the ringed seal than the Caspian seal. The amount of divergence suggested that an ancestor of the Baikal seal came down to the lake approximately 0.4 million years ago as was previously indicated by paleontological studies. The seals examined here showed lower variabilities.  相似文献

In many aquatic animals, predator avoidance can be stimulated by chemical cues, including those released by injured prey (alarm cues). Alarm cues of both conspecific and heterospecific origin have been identified within several fish taxa, where phylogenetic conservation of the cue-response complex is common. Turbellarian flatworms (planaria) are among the simplest animals known to respond to chemical cues released by injured conspecifics. We examined how two locally sympatric planaria species respond to conspecific and heterospecific chemical cues using macerated tissue suspensions. Brown (Girardia tigrina) and black (Dugesia dorotocephala) planaria both exhibited avoidance behavior when presented conspecific cues. Despite a significant twofold difference in body size (black > brown), stimulus prepared from a single (1×) individual of either species elicited avoidance. Increasing brown planaria cue concentration by macerating two individuals (2×) produced a significant increase in conspecific avoidance. Heterospecific stimuli produced asymmetric results. Black planaria avoided the brown planaria stimulus, but only in the higher concentration (2×) trials. Brown planaria did not consistently exhibit avoidance of the black planaria stimulus and some brown subjects approached and consumed black planarian tissues. Our results expand the demonstrated occurrence of alarm cues among planaria and suggest that avoidance behavior can be mediated by multiple environmental and intrinsic factors in freshwater Turbellaria.  相似文献

1. The abdominal colour patterns of some multivoltine species of hoverfly are phenotypically plastic and change through the flying season.

It was predicted how the abdominal colour pattern of one species, Episyrphus balteatus , should change in the field with season based on a hypothesis that the pattern influences the thermoregulatory capabilities of the animal. The colour patterns were quantified using image analysis. The observed changes in the colour pattern through the year supported the thermoregulation hypothesis.
3. A further three Metasyrphus species were analysed similarly to allow a comparative study of the forms of the plasticities of the above four species and four Eristalis species from a previous study.
4. Whilst it was clear that the abdominal colour patterns of many of the species were plastic, it was also apparent that not all species used the same developmental pathway to control the seasonal colour pattern changes. This suggests convergent evolution towards a general type of plasticity and that abdominal colour pattern plasticity in hoverflies is functional.  相似文献

Intraspecific genetic polymorphism of a Baikal Lake endemic, little Baikal oilfish (Comephorus dybowski Korotneff, 1905), was evaluated based on microsatellite analysis. Six microsatellite loci designed for the European sculpin, Cottus gobio, were used. Each locus was typed using 25 to 35 individuals from each of the Baikal trenches (southern, middle, and northern). Analysis of genetic differentiation (F(ST) and R(ST)) revealed no statistical significant differences between the samples. The data showed that the target species was represented by a single panmictic stable population.  相似文献

Fragments of mtDNA genes Cyt B, ATPase 6, and ATPase 8 of six cottoid fishes species of Lake Baikal (East Siberia) were amplified and sequenced. In addition mtDNAs of the same fish were subjected to restriction analysis. The data obtained were used to construct phylogenetic trees. The topology of the ATPase tree differs from those of the Res (restriction) and Cyt B trees. Clustering of species within the trees confirms the viewpoint of Taliev (1955, Baicalian Sculpins (Cottoidei)) according to which Baikalian cottoids originate from two ancestral forms. The times of branching obtained do not confirm the existing viewpoint according to which the two golomyankas (Comephorus baicalensis and Comephorus dybowskii) are pre-Baikal (Myocene) relicts: these two species may have originated 1.2–1.8 million years ago in Baikal, and they seem to represent an example of rapid morphological evolution which resulted in the formation of a new family. It is known that the conventional microbiological methods of investigation reveal not more than 1% of the species of microorganisms actually inhabiting one biotope or another. The most complete characterization of the microbial community is achieved by investigating DNA isolated from the samples differing from each other in ecological conditions. The sediments of Lake Baikal are characterized by a high content of humic compounds which hinders molecular biological analyses. Because of this, the procedure of DNA isolation is a step o critical importance for the analysis of bottom sediments. In the present work we compare the methods of isolation of the whole bacterial DNA from the bottom sediments of Lake Baikal. The most efficient method allowing us to obtained DNA preparations for further molecular investigation was chosen.  相似文献

1. Communal roosting behaviour has been documented among a wide range of taxa, particularly among groups of butterflies that display warning colourations. These aggregations of conspecifics and/or other species that share mimetic warning colour patterns can have a large impact on predator learning, and thus the survival of an aposematic form. Yet there has been limited investigation of communal roosting within areas where new and diverse warning colour forms are generated, such as hybrid zones. 2. Here, roosting behaviour was examined in a Heliconius erato hybrid zone in French Guiana between races with divergent warning colourations on their wings. In this hybrid zone, native individuals with nine distinct warning colourations, as well as individuals with altered forms that are not native in the French Guiana population, were marked and observed to determine if divergently coloured individuals participated in communal roosting, and if the proportions of colour pattern forms at roosts differed from the proportions that are found in the population. 3. The results demonstrated that divergently coloured individuals of the same species, including altered, non‐native forms, will readily and repeatedly participate in nocturnal communal roosting, often with extreme fidelity to specific perch locations. 4. These findings suggest that roosts composed of polymorphic warning patterns may be common in phenotypic transition zones, which could have major implications on predator training and selection dynamics in hybrid zones.  相似文献

The investigation of the microbial community of Lake Baikal by the methods of general and molecular microbiology showed that culturable bacterial strains were represented by various known genera. The lake water contains a great number of bacterial morphotypes, as revealed by electron microscopy, and a great diversity of nonculturable microorganisms belonging to different phylogenetic groups, as revealed by 16S rRNA gene fragment sequencing. The inference is made that the microbial community of Lake Baikal contains not only the known species but also new, possibly endemic to the lake, bacterial species.  相似文献

It is widely documented that hybridisation occurs between many closely related species, but the importance of introgression in adaptive evolution remains unclear, especially in animals. Here, we have examined the role of introgressive hybridisation in transferring adaptations between mimetic Heliconius butterflies, taking advantage of the recent identification of a gene regulating red wing patterns in this genus. By sequencing regions both linked and unlinked to the red colour locus, we found a region that displays an almost perfect genotype by phenotype association across four species, H. melpomene, H. cydno, H. timareta, and H. heurippa. This particular segment is located 70 kb downstream of the red colour specification gene optix, and coalescent analysis indicates repeated introgression of adaptive alleles from H. melpomene into the H. cydno species clade. Our analytical methods complement recent genome scale data for the same region and suggest adaptive introgression has a crucial role in generating adaptive wing colour diversity in this group of butterflies.  相似文献

Hymenopterans have long been shown to choose colours by means of the spectral distribution and independently of the intensity (true colour vision). The same ability has only very recently been proven for two butterfly species. We present evidence for the existence of true colour vision in the European hummingbird hawkmoth, Macroglossum stellatarum. Moths were trained in dual-choice situations to spectral lights of a rewarding and an unrewarding wavelength. After training, unrewarded tests were performed during which the intensities of the lights were changed. The results confirm that the species has three spectral receptor types and uses true colour vision when learning the colour of a food source. If colour vision is not possible since only one receptor type is receiving input from both stimuli, the moths learn to associate some achromatic cue correlated to the receptor quantum catch, with the reward. The moths learn spectral cues rapidly and choose correctly after one to several rewarded visits even when trained to different colours in sequence. Accepted: 24 February 1999  相似文献

Lakes Baikal, Tanganyika and Malawi have similar origins, are physiographically similar, and of similar size. The hydrological regime of Baikal is, however, very different from that which prevails in its African sisters. Apart from being much cooler, it differs fundamentally in being oxygenated to all depths while the two great African rift lakes possess only a relatively thin oxygenated surface layer and have vast oxygenless, and therefore azoic, abyssal regions. Nevertheless, like Baikal, they have rich endemic faunas.That these faunas originated largely by intralacustrine speciation and not by multiple invasion is now well established. They provide some of the world's most spectacular examples of species flocks, and some groups display what has been aptly described as explosive speciation. Certain features, and especially the adaptive radiation, of some of the groups involved, are noted. Comparisons between lakes are illuminating. Some species flocks, such as those of amphipods, sponges and turbellarians of Baikal and the atyid prawns and potamid crabs of Tanganyika, have no counterparts in the other lakes. Other groups, such as the prosobranch gastropods, ostracods and harpacticoid copepods of Baikal and Tanganyika, and the fishes of all three, involve representatives of the same major group, though often of different families or even higher taxonomic categories.That allopatric speciation has been involved is universally acknowledged but the problems posed by species multiplication in deep water in L. Baikal have led to suggestions that sympatric speciation could have played a part. Notwithstanding the difficulties, it is suggested that the process can be explained without invoking the assistance of the sympatric model.The faunas of these lakes provide immense fields for investigation and enormous intellectual challenges. While each is an entity in itself, comparative studies may be particularly enlightening.The substance of this paper was presented as a lecture at the First International Baikal Vereshchagin Conference held in Listvyanka, Irkutsk Region, U.S.S.R. in October 1989.  相似文献

Microbial communities in the bottom sediments of the Akademichesky Ridge, Lake Baikal, were studied. The samples were taken by deep drilling BDP-96 (a 100-m core). Vertical distribution of the prokaryotes with different physiological characteristics was studied for the core. The phylogenetic analysis of the organotrophic laboratory-reared microorganisms revealed the clusterization of Baikal strains and species which have not been identified yet.  相似文献

Linuparus White, 1847 comprises three extant species, Linuparus trigonus (Von Siebold, 1824), L. sordidusBruce, 1965, and L. somniosusBerry and George, 1972, as well as 32 fossil species. Most fossil records are from North America and Europe, but the extant species are all confined to the Indo-West Pacific. Different colour forms in L. trigonus and L. sordidus have been noted, with Northern Hemisphere specimens generally darker in colour for both species. The phylogenetic relationships of the extant Linuparus species, including the colour forms, were investigated using mitochondrial 12S rRNA and COI gene sequence analysis. We found no genetic evidence to differentiate the colour morphs of L. sordidus, but the two colour forms of L. trigonus were clearly distinct at the species level. This is supported morphologically by a consistent difference in the shape of the thoracic sternum between the two forms. The paler coloured Southern Hemisphere form is described as a new species, L. meridionalis. Phylogenetic analysis shows that L. trigonus and L. meridionalis sp. nov. are derived sister taxa, while L. somniosus is basal within the genus. Thus the present results support the previous hypothesis that Linuparus was originated in shallow water.  相似文献

Cichlids are one of the most diverse and colourful groups of freshwater fishes in the world. Despite much investigation, the factors that promote speciation in these fishes are still uncertain. However, previous studies suggest that sexual selection on male colour is one of the main drivers of speciation among these fishes. Metriaclima estherae is a polymorphic cichlid species from Lake Malawi, and thus provides an ideal model for the investigation of the importance of colour as a species recognition cue. M. callainos is a closely related and morphologically similar species, with male colour pattern very similar to that of M. estherae. We tested female choice by giving females of the two species a choice between conspecific and heterospecific males in the presence and absence of visual (colour) and chemical cues. The results show that females of M. callainos were able to reliably recognize conspecific males, even when colour was eliminated as a cue. However, females of M. estherae did not prefer conspecific males, although they were able to discriminate between red and blue conspecific colour morphs by using chemical cues. These results suggest that species recognition cues may differ even among closely related species of cichlid fish, and that female preferences for male coloration may be weak in certain species.  相似文献

In some species pollination may result in rapid changes in perianth colour and form (petal senescence and abscission, flower closure), rendering the flowers less attractive to pollinators. It has been suggested that this effect is mediated by ethylene. Flowers from about 200 species and 50 families were exposed to ethylene (3 ppm for 24 h at 20 degrees C). The effects on petal senescence and abscission have been described previously. Flower closure and perianth colour changes were generally ethylene-sensitive, but responses showed no consistency within families. Several flowers known to respond to pollination by rapid cessation of attractiveness were also exposed to ethylene: this produced the same effect as pollination, both on flower colour and form. Species that respond to pollination by changing flower form or colour were found exclusively in families in which the species are generally ethylene-sensitive (with regard to changes in perianth form and colour). However, several families are generally ethylene-sensitive but contain no species reported to respond to pollination.  相似文献

Parasite communities of Baikal omul from Chivyrkuiskii Bay of Lake Baikal have been analyzed at levels of a host individual (infracommunity), a separate age group of a host (set of infracommunities), and a host population (component community). Significant positive correlations of parameters of species richness (number of parasite species, Margalef and Menhinick indices) with the age of Baikal omul were recorded only at the level of parasite infracommunities. The absence of linear positive correlations between the parameters of species richness and the age of Baikal omul at the level of sets of parasite infracommunities were revealed for the first time for fishes of Lake Baikal. The peculiarity of the dynamics of parasite communities of Baikal omul is determined by specific features of the host physiology and ecology, primarily by the age dynamics of the feeding spectrum.  相似文献
