The effects of vitamin E and Hippophea rhamnoides L. extract (HRe‐1) on nicotine‐induced oxidative stress in rat heart were investigated. There were eight rats per group and supplementation period was 3 weeks. The groups were: nicotine [0.5 mg kg?1day?1, intraperitoneal (i.p.)]; nicotine plus vitamin E [75 mg kg?1day?1, intragastric (i.g.)]; nicotine plus HRe‐1 (250 mg kg?1day?1, i.g.); and the control group (receiving only vehicles). Nicotine increased the malondialdehyde level, which was prevented by both vitamin E and HRe‐1. Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity in nicotine plus vitamin E supplemented group was higher than the others. Glutathione S‐transferase (GST) activity in nicotine plus HRe‐1 supplemented group was increased compared with the control group. Catalase activity was higher in nicotine group compared with others. GPx activity in nicotine plus vitamin E supplemented group was elevated compared with the others. Total and non‐enzymatic superoxide scavenger activities in nicotine plus vitamin E supplemented group were lower than nicotine plus HRe‐1 supplemented group. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was higher in nicotine plus HRe‐1 supplemented group compared with others. Glutathione reductase activity and nitric oxide level were not affected. Increased SOD and GST activities might have taken part in the prevention of nicotine‐induced oxidative stress in HRe‐1 supplemented group in rat heart. Flavonols such as quercetin, and isorahmnetin, tocopherols such as α‐tocopherol and β‐tocopherol and carotenoids such as α‐carotene and β‐carotene, reported to be present in H. rhamnoides L. extracts may be responsible for the antioxidant effects of this plant extract. Cleft palate is one of the most common birth defects. Several environment factors are involved in the disorder, such as smoking, vitamin deficiency and teratogens. We investigated the teratogenic agent phenytoin and extract of the immunostimulant Echinacea purpurea in the etiology of cleft palate associated with the proliferation and apoptosis of mouse embryonic palatal mesenchymal (MEPM) cells. We measured the effects of phenytoin, E. purpurea extract, and the mixture of phenytoin and E. purpurea extract on the cell viability of MEPM cells by CCK‐8 assay and on the proliferation and apoptosis of MEPM cells by BrdU labeling assay, flow cytometry, and TUNEL assay. Exposure to phenytoin for 24 h inhibited cell proliferation and increased cell apoptosis of MEPM cells, and E. purpurea extract had the reverse effect. Importantly, treatment with the mixture of phenytoin and E. purpurea extract increased the proliferation and decreased the apoptosis of MEPM cells as compared with treatment with phenytoin alone. The teratogenic effect of phenytoin on cleft palate is associated with the proliferation and apoptosis of MEPM cells, and E. purpurea extract may have a protective effect. J. Cell. The antioxidants in Okara Koji (OK), an okara (OC) fermented by Aspergillus oryzae, γ-tocopherol, δ-tocopherol, genistin, daizein, genistein, and 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid were identified by HPLC. OK’s extract with 80% methanol strongly inhibited linoleate peroxidation, much more than other OK’s extracts with hexane or hot water. The methanol extract accelerated 12-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid formation in membrane lipids at 10?3 concentration, but inhibited the formation at higher concentrations than 10?3 ex vivo. To confirm the total effect of all components of OK on lipid peroxidation in vivo, rats fed food deficient in vitamin E were put on diets containing OK or OC with oxidized oil. In rats fed the OK diet, no effect of oxidized oil feeding on the body weight gain, of the TBA value in plasma, or of glutathione peroxidase activities of plasma and liver was observed. But in rats fed the OC diet, the effect of oxidized oil feeding was apparently observed on all of those values. These results suggested that OK would scavenge lipid peroxides in vivo.  相似文献

We evaluated the preventive effects of Terminalia chebula (T. chebula) aqueous extract on oxidative and antioxidative status in liver and kidney of aged rats compared to young albino rats. The concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA), lipofuscin (LF), protein carbonyls (PCO), activities of xantione oxidase (XO), manganese‐superoxide dismutase (MnSOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione‐S‐transferase (GST), and glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH), levels of glutathione (GSH), vitamin C and vitamin E were used as biomarkers. In the liver and kidney of aged animals, enhanced oxidative stress was accompanied by compromised antioxidant defences. Administration of aqueous extract of T. cheubla effectively modulated oxidative stress and enhanced antioxidant status in the liver and kidney of aged rats. The results of the present study demonstrate that aqueous extract of T. cheubla inhibits the development of age‐induced damages by protecting against oxidative stress. Supercritical fluids (SCFs) are alternative solvents in the field of Green Chemistry that are being developed as advanced separation techniques due to their combined properties such as the penetrability of a gas and the solvent power of a liquid. These characteristics are used in the supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), where compounds of interest can be extracted after mixing a SCF as a solvent with a matrix in a pressurized vessel. Supercritical antisolvent fractionation (SAF) uses the SCF as antisolvent, allowing for the precipitation of insoluble compounds in the SCF-organic solution mixture. An updated overview of SFE and SAF of natural products is presented in this article. Additionally we compare the results of SFE, SAF and organic soxhlet extraction (OSE) of Persea indica, a Macaronesian paleoendemism with strong insecticidal components. The composition of the extracts was analyzed by HPLC-MS, showing in the SFE extracts as major components ryanodol, cinnzeylanol and alkyl-γ-lactones, with their abundance varying with the extraction conditions. On the other hand, the SAF allowed for the fractionation of a liquid solution to give a ryanodol enriched extract (31 % more ryanodol than the initial ethanolic solution). The antifeedant and postingestive effects of these extracts on Spodoptera littoralis showed that the SAF extracts were the most active followed by SFE and OSE and their different effects can be partially explained by their composition.  相似文献

Three new compounds, 1 – 3 , and 20 known compounds were isolated from the AcOEt and BuOH extract of edible Opuntia Milpa Alta. The petroleum ether extract was examined by GC and MS. A total of 26 compounds were identified, representing 95.6% of the total extract, phytosterol (36.03%) being the most abundant component, and polyunsaturated fatty acids (18.57%) represented the second largest group, followed by phytol (12.28%), palmitic acid, palmitate (13.54%), vitamin E (4.51%), and other compounds (7.47%). The effects of various extracts from edible Opuntia Milpa Alta (petroleum ether extract, AcOEt extract, BuOH extract, aqueous extract, H2O parts) and the positive control (received dimethylbiguanide) were tested on streptozotocin (STZ)‐induced diabetic mice. The results indicated that all the treatment groups could significantly decrease blood glucose levels in STZ‐induced diabetic mice compared to the model control group (P<0.01), except the aqueous extract group (P<0.05). Especially, the petroleum ether extract group and the positive control group showed remarkable decrease of blood glucose levels. Taken together, the results indicate that the petroleum ether extract is the major hypoglycemic part in edible Opuntia Milpa Alta, which may be developed to a potential natural hypoglycemic functional ingredient.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility of biodiscrimination between different forms of vitamin E during the development of the chick embryo. The vitamin E present in the initial yolk consisted of α-tocopherol (90%), (β+γ)-tocopherol (8%), α-tocotrienol (0.3%) and (β+γ)-tocotrienol (1.3%). In marked contrast, the vitamin E recovered from the bile of the day-16 embryo contained much higher proportions of α-tocotrienol (10%) and especially of (β+γ)-tocotrienol (42%). By the time of hatching, 56% of the vitamin E present in the bile was in the form of (β+γ)-tocotrienol. The residual yolk of the newly-hatched chick contained far greater proportions of α-tocotrienol (2.6%) and (β+γ)-tocotrienol (10%) than were present in the initial yolk. The results suggest that the liver of the embryo may selectively excrete tocotrienols as components of bile, whilst retaining the tocopherols within the hepatocytes. The increased proportions of tocotrienols in the residual yolk may result from the recycling of bile from the gall bladder to the yolk. The liver of the day-old chick contained α-tocopherol as the main form of vitamin E (90%) with only a small proportion (0.2%) of (β+γ)-tocotrienol. The α-tocopherol form was also the main vitamin E component in the brain (85%), heart (79%), lung (82%) and adipose tissue (91%) of the day-old chick. The present study suggests the occurrence of a high degree of biodiscrimination between tocopherols and tocotrienols during the development of the chick embryo.  相似文献

To investigate the influence and possible interactions of dietary vitamin E and C supplementation on vitamin content of both vitamins and oxidative stability of different pork tissues 40 Large White barrows from 25?kg to 106?kg were allocated to four different cereal based diets: Basal diet (B), dl-α-tocopherylacetate?+?200?mg/kg (E), crystalline ascorbic acid?+?300?mg/kg (C) or both vitamins (EC). At slaughtering samples of liver, spleen, heart, kidney, backfat outer layer, ham and M. longissimus dorsi were obtained. Growth performance of the pigs and carcass characteristics were not influenced by feeding treatments. Dietary vitamin E supplementation had a significant effect on the vitamin E and α-tocopherol concentration in all investigated tissues. Backfat outer layer, liver, spleen, kidney and heart had higher vitamin E concentrations than ham and M. longissimus dorsi. Dietary vitamin C supplementation tended towards enhanced vitamin E levels except for ham samples. Therefore, some synergistic actions without dietary vitamin E supplementation between the two vitamins could be shown. The vitamin C concentration and TBARS were increased or at least equal in all tissues due to vitamin C supplementation. Dietary α-tocopherol supplementation resulted in lower TBARS in backfat outer layer (malondialdehyde 0.35?mg/kg in B vs. 0.28?mg/kg in E), but increased in heart and ham. When both vitamins were supplemented (EC) TBARS were lower in M. longissimus dorsi and backfat outer layer, equal in heart and higher in liver and ham compared to a single vitamin C supplementation. Rancimat induction time of backfat outer layer was 0.3?h higher in C compared to B and 0.17?h higher in EC than in E. Correlations between levels of both vitamins were positive for kidney (r?=?0.169), M. longissimus dorsi (r?=?0.499) and ham (r?=?0.361) and negative for heart (r?=???0.350). In liver and spleen no interaction could be found. In backfat outer layer vitamin E was positively correlated with rancimat induction time (r?=?0.550) and negatively with TBARS (r?=???0.202), but provided no evidence that dietary vitamin E supply led to better oxidative stability.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate whether nicotine affects 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD) enzyme activity in some rat tissues, and to see the modulatory effects of vitamin E on this effect in vivo. In addition, the effects of nicotine and vitamin E on 6PGD activity were also tested in vitro. The groups were: nicotine [0.5 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneal (i.p.)]; nicotine + vitamin E [75 mg/kg/day, intragastric (i.g.)]; and control group (receiving only vehicles). There were eight rats per group and supplementation period was 3 weeks. The results of in vivo study showed that nicotine activated the muscle, lungs, and testicular 6PGD enzyme activity but had no effect on heart and liver 6PGD activity. Also, nicotine + vitamin E activated the muscle, testicle, and liver 6PGD enzyme activity, while this combination had no effect on heart, and lungs in vivo. When nicotine is administered with vitamin E the increase in 6PGD enzyme activity in muscle and testicles were lower. On the other hand the increase in 6PGD enzyme activity was eliminated by vitamin E in lungs, while 6PGD enzyme activity was increased by vitamin E, which was not affected by nicotine only. In vitro results correlated well with in vivo experimental results. Our results suggest that vitamin E may favourably increase 6PGD enzyme activity in liver in nicotine treated rats, while it has negligible effects on this enzyme activity in other tissues.  相似文献

Studies are reported on the oxidation of vitamin E and changes in lipid and fatty acid composition of rat blood components incubated in vitro with hydroperoxides prepared from autoxidized methyl linoleate. Red blood cells, plasma, serum, and hemoglobin free stroma were incubated at 37 °C with suspensions of linoleate hydroperoxide in Tris buffer at pH 7.4. The RBC were destroyed and substances with excitation-fluorescent properties were produced. Phosphatidylethanolamine, vitamin E and unsaturated fatty acids were oxidized in the reaction. Among the reaction products were substances that gave a positive thiobarbituric acid value, tocoquinone, and an unidentified substance isolated in the nonsaponifiable fraction of the lipid extract of the hemolyzed red cells. The reaction of linoleate hydroperoxide with stroma was similar to that with red blood cells and the same products were observed. In contrast there was little reaction of linoleate hydroperoxide with vitamin E or lipids of the serum or plasma in the absence of red blood cells. The destruction of the red blood cells appeared to be closely related to the oxidation of vitamin E indicating that the strong antioxygenic action of vitamin E in vivo was due to its particular form or structural orientation in the red cell membrane.  相似文献

In this study, plasma and red blood cell (RBC) antioxidant status and plasma lipid peroxidation were investigated in 46 hemodialysis patients. In addition, the effect of erythropoietin (EPO) and EPO-vitamin E combination therapy on plasma and RBC antioxidant status, and plasma lipid peroxidation were examined.

There were 10 healthy subjects in the control group and 10 hemodialysis patients in the untreated group. The third group included 36 hemodialysis patients that were given EPO (100 U/kg) for 3 months, 3 times per week. The fourth group included 36 hemodialysis-patients from the EPO group that were given EPO at a 50% decreased dose + vitamin E (300 mg/day) for 3 months.

MDA levels in the untreated group, the EPO group and the EPO + vitamin E groups were found to be higher than the control group (p<0.001, in both). Furthermore, MDA levels in both of the treatment groups were lower when compared to the untreated group (p<0.001, in both). Plasma vitamin E levels in the untreated, the EPO group and EPO + vitamin E groups were lower than the control group (p<0.001). In contrast, plasma vitamin E levels in the treatment groups were higher in comparison with the control group (p<0.05). SOD activities in the untreated, the EPO group and the EPO + vitamin E groups were found to be lower than the control group (p<0.001). SOD activities in the treatment groups were higher than the control group (p<0.001). The SOD activities in the EPO + vitamin E group increased when compared to the EPO group (p<0.001). CAT activities in the untreated, the EPO group and the EPO + vitamin E groups were found to be lower than the control group (p<0.001 in untreated and EPO groups, p<0.01 in EPO + vitamin E group). CAT activities in EPO and EPO + vitamin E groups were increased when compared to the untreated group (p<0.01).

In conclusion, our findings have shown that antioxidant status decreased and lipid peroxidation increased in hemodialysis patients. EPO has an antioxidant effect on the RBC and plasma antioxidant status, and plasma lipid peroxidation. These effects were moderately increased by the combination of vitamin E and EPO.  相似文献

Abstract

Some 80 years after its discovery, vitamin E has experienced a renaissance which is as surprising as it is trivial. Although vitamin E is essential for reproduction, in rats at least, and deficiency causes neurological disorders in humans, the main interest in the last decades has concentrated on its antioxidant functions. This focus has highly underestimated the biological importance of vitamin E, which by far exceeds the need for acting as a radical scavenger. Only recently has it become clear that vitamin E can regulate cellular signaling and gene expression. Out of the eight different tocols included in the term vitamin E, α-tocopherol often exerts specific functions, which is also reflected in its selective recognition by proteins such as the α-tocopherol transfer protein and α-tocopherol-associated proteins. Vitamin E forms other than α-tocopherol are very actively metabolised, which explains their low biopotency. In vivo, metabolism may also attenuate the novel functions of γ-tocopherol and tocotrienols observed in vitro. On the other hand, metabolites derived from individual forms of vitamin E have been shown to exert effects by themselves. This article focuses on the metabolism and novel functions of vitamin E with special emphasis on differential biological activities of individual vitamin E forms.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to determine the protective effects of intraperitoneally administered vitamin E and selenium (as Na2SeO3, Se) on the lipid peroxidation as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and vitamin E levels, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), reduced glutathione (GSH) activities in the plasma, red blood cell (RBC), liver, and muscle of rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes. Fifty adult male Wistar rats were used and all rats were randomly divided into five groups. The first group was used as a control and the second group as a diabetic control. A placebo was given to first and second groups by injection. The third group was intraperitoneally administered with vitamin E (20 mg over 24 h), the fourth group with Se (0.3 mg over 24 h), and the fifth group with vitamin E and Se combination (COM) (20 mg vitamin E + 0.3 mg Se over 24 h). This administration was done for 25 days and the TBARS, vitamin E, GSH-Px, GSH levels in the plasma, RBC, liver, and muscle samples were determined. The vitamin E level in the plasma and liver was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in the control than in the diabetic control group. Also, the TBARS levels in the RBC, liver, and muscle were significantly (p < 0.05) lower in the control than in the diabetic control group. However, GSH-Px and GSH activities in RBC, liver, and muscle were not statistically different between the control and the diabetic control groups. The vitamin E levels in plasma and liver (p < 0.01 and p < 0.001) and GSH-Px activities (p < 0.01, p < 0.001) in RBC were significantly higher in vitamin E, Se, and COM groups than in both control and diabetic control groups. However, the TBARS levels of RBC, muscle, and liver in vitamin E and Se administered groups were significantly (p < 0.05-p < 0.001, respectively) decreased. These results indicate that intraperitoneally administered vitamin E and Se have significant protective effects on the blood, liver, and muscle against oxidative damage of diabetes. Numerous studies have proposed a radical or oxidant involvement in a number of degenerative diseases such as cancer. This has led to suggestions that the supplementation of antioxidants such as α-tocopherol (vitamin E) may function to reduce the growth of cancer. In this study, a nonmalignant Monkey kidney (LLCMK) and a malignant Murine melanoma (BL6-F10) cell line were supplemented with varying levels of α-Tocopherol acid succinate (vitamin E succinate) ranging from 1 to 10 μg/ml. BL6-F10 cells supplemented with 5, 7, and 10 μg/ml vitamin E succinate, showed significant decreases in cell proliferation, and this decrease was accompanied by a concomitant increase rather than a decrease in the levels of free radicals and lipid peroxidation. LLCMK cells supplemented with 1–10 μg/ml vitamin E succinate showed no significant increase or decrease in growth, while the levels of lipid peroxidation were shown to be insignificantly elevated at 5, 7, and 10 μg/ml vitamin E succinate. Free radical levels in LLCMK cells were significantly decreased at 1 μg/ml vitamin E succinate, while at 3, 5, 7, and 10 μg/ml supplementary vitamin E succinate, free radical levels increased compared to the 1 μg/ml group, but not compared to control cultures. These results suggest that the inhibitory effects of vitamin E succinate on BL6-F10 cell growth in vitro is not a consequence of its antioxidant properties, but may, in fact, be due to one or more of its other potential roles within the cells, such as the regulation of cellular enzyme activities involved in growth. © 1997 Elsevier Science Inc.  相似文献

The lipid fraction of seeds from different pine species and populations was studied regarding total lipid content, fatty acid profile and vitamin E composition. The investigated seeds contained a high percentage of lipid (13.6 to 31.5 %). Lipid fractions were found to be rich in vitamin E, which varied significantly among species and populations. P. halepensis (Ph−Hn) showed the highest content of vitamin E (256.3 mg/kg of seeds) and the uppermost content of α-tocopherol (44 mg/kg). However, P. halepensis (Ph−Kas) was the richest in γ-tocopherol (204.9 mg/kg). Lipid fractions had a low content of δ-tocopherol (1.2 to 3.6 mg/kg. The highest content of γ-tocotrienol (∼18 %) was determined for P. halepensis (Ph−Dc and Ph−Hn). Thirteen fatty acids were identified by GC-FID with significant variation between the investigated species. The linoleic acid was the major fatty acid followed by oleic acid and palmitic acid. The chemical differentiation among species for the composition of fatty acids and vitamin E was confirmed by PCA. Significant correlations were observed between the content of vitamin E and fatty acids and ecological parameters of P. halepensis populations.  相似文献

Background Newborn birth weight has been shown to significantly correlate with the blood levels of vitamin C. Objective This study was planned to answer the question of why vitamin C levels correlate with birth weight; does such correlation reflect a protective effect of vitamin C on fetal growth, by its antioxidant characteristics or does it correspond to the nutritional status of both the mother and the fetus. We examined the hypothesis that maternal blood levels of vitamin C, but not vitamin E influence newborn birth weight. We determined maternal and newborn blood levels of vitamin C, vitamin E, and lipid peroxides (an index of oxidative insult) and the birth weights of full-term newborns delivered at our hospital. Results Compared with maternal blood levels, newborns have higher levels of vitamin C and lipid peroxides, but lower levels of vitamin E. There was a significant correlation in levels between mothers and their newborns for blood levels of vitamin C (r = 0.82, P < 0.01) and vitamin E (r = 0.61, P < 0.02) but not for lipid peroxides (r = 0.001). This suggests that maternal vitamin C and vitamin E intake can influence fetal vitamin C and vitamin E levels. Linear regression analysis shows a significant positive relationship between newborn birth weight and maternal plasma vitamin C (r = 0.51, P < 0.02). Similarly, there was a modest but significant positive relationship between newborn birth weights and newborn vitamin C levels (r = 0.61, P < 0.05). However, there was no relationship between maternal or fetal vitamin E or lipid peroxides levels and the newborn birth weight. Conclusions This study with a small number of subjects suggests a significant association between newborn birth weight and maternal and newborn plasma vitamin C levels. Lack of relationship between birth weight and vitamin E and lipid peroxides suggest that antioxidant function of vitamin C does not appear to have a major role in the effect of vitamin C on birth weight.  相似文献

We aimed to investigate the influence of dietary vitamin E and diludine on growth and lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde; MDA) in rainbow trout. Fish (1.5 g) were fed different dietary levels of vitamin E (0, 50 and 100 mg/kg) and diludine (0, 0.5 and 1 g/kg) for 10 weeks. Growth performance and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were significantly affected by dietary vitamin E (p < .05) but not diludine. Fish fed 50 mg/kg dietary vitamin E with no diludine had significantly better growth and lower FCR than those fed vitamin E free diets. Liver vitamin E content was significantly influenced by dietary vitamin E and diludine (p < .05). The highest hepatic vitamin E was in fish fed the highest dietary vitamin E and diludine levels. Hepatic MDA level was significantly affected by dietary vitamin E and diludine (p < .05), decreasing with the increase in both dietary vitamin E and diludine. According to our results, diludine had no significant effect on growth; however, decreased hepatic lipid peroxidation independent of vitamin E. Our results reveal that 50 mg/kg vitamin E content is suitable for optimal growth and FCR in rainbow trout juveniles. However, dose dependent effects of dietary diludine remain uncertain and need further researches.  相似文献

This study investigated the nutritional components and anti-proliferative activity of Sargassum oligocystum against an adriamycin-resistant human small cell lung carcinoma cell line (GLC4/Adr). The seaweed samples were collected from Nang Rong Beach, Chonburi Province, Thailand in February (the hot/dry season), May (the early monsoon season), August (the monsoon season) and December (the cool/dry season) of 2012. In general, the nutritional composition of S. oligocystum was high during the hot dry and early monsoon season. Additionally, four different types of extract were obtained: ethanolic extract (E1), lipophilic extract (E2), acidic extract (E3) and alkali extract (E4). The highest anti-proliferative activity was found in samples collected during the monsoon season. It is noteworthy that the E2 extract collected during the monsoon season was the most effective, with an IC50 (half maximal inhibitory concentration) value of 2.52 ± 0.54 μg mL?1. The anti-proliferative activity showed a positive correlation with vitamin E (α-tocopherol) in the extracts. However, there were no clear correlations between the total phenolic or fucoxanthin contents and anti-proliferative activity. These results indicate that S. oligocystum has potential as an alternative source for functional food or cancer treatments in the future.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the effects of vitamin E and selenium (Se) on lipid peroxidation (MDA), serum and liver concentration of antioxidant vitamins, and some minerals of Japanese quails reared under heat stress (34°C). One hundred twenty 10-d-old Japanese qualis (60 males, 60 females) were randomly assigned to 4 treatment groups, 3 replicates of 10 birds each. The experiment was designed in a 2×2 factorial arrangement using two levels of vitamin E (125 and 250 mg/kg of diet) and two levels of selenium (0.1 and 0.2 mg/kg of diet). Greater dietary vitamin E and selenium inclusions resulted in a greater (p=0.001) serum vitamin E and vitamin A, but lower (p=0.001) MDA concentrations. Liver vitamin E and vitamin A concentrations increased (p=0.001) and MDA concentrations decreased (p=0.001) when both dietary vitamin E and selenium increased. No interactions between vitamin E and selenium were detected (p≥0.11) for any parameters. Increasing both dietary vitamin E and selenium caused an increase in serum concentrations of Fe and Zn (p=0.001), but a decrease in serum concentration of Cu (p=0.001). Results of the present study showed that dietary vitamin E and selenium have synergistic effects and that supplementing a combination of dietary vitamin E (250 mg/kg of diet) and selenium (0.2 mg/kg of diet) offers a good management practice to reduce heat stress-related depression in performance of Japanese quails.  相似文献

Effects of nicotine, nicotine+vitamin E and nicotine+Hippophea rhamnoides L. extract (HRe-1) on muscle, heart, lungs, testicle, kidney, stomach, brain and liver carbonic anhydrase (CA; EC 4.2.1.1.) enzyme activities were investigated in vivo. Groups of rats were given nicotine (0.5?mg/kg/day, i.p.), nicotine+vitamin E (75?mg/kg/day, i.g.), nicotine+HRe-1 (250?mg/kg/day, i.g.) and a control group vehicle only. The results showed that nicotine inhibited the heart, lung, stomach and liver CA enzyme activities by ~80% (p?<?0.001), ~94% (p?<?0.001), ~47% (p?<?0.001) and ~81% (p?<?0.001) respectively, and activated muscle and kidney, but had no effects on the testicle and brain CA activities. Nicotine+vitamin E inhibited the heart and liver CA enzyme activities by ~50% (p?<?0.001), and ~50% (p?<?0.001), respectively, and nicotine+vitamin E activated the muscle CA activity. However, nicotine+vitamin E had no effect on lung, testicle, kidney, stomach and brain CA activities. Nicotine+HRe-1 inhibited the heart and stomach CA enzyme activities by ~51% (p?<?0.001), and ~32% (p?<?0.002), respectively, and activated the muscle and brain CA activities, but had no effects on the lung, testicle, kidney, and liver CA activities. In vitro CA inhibition results for similar experiments correlated well with the in vivo experimental results in lungs, testicles, kidney, stomach, brain and liver tissues.  相似文献
