1. The influence was studied of a beta 2-agonist, clenbuterol, on mean gain of body weight, feed efficiency and growth of muscle tissue in female Wistar rats of three different weights (70, 150 and 200 g). 2. Clenbuterol significantly increases mean gain of body weight and feed efficiency in all the studies realised, but much more effectively in animals of greater age/weight (200 g). 3. In addition, it favours protein deposition in muscle, given that it increases significantly (P less than 0.001) the muscle/body weight ratio in all of the experiments.  相似文献

Raw or extruded pea (Pisum sativum, cv. Ballet) diets with or without supplementary amino acids were fed for 15 days to young growing rats and the effects on tissue weights, liver and muscle protein metabolism and hormone levels monitored. Body weight gain, liver and gastrocnemius muscle weights and protein contents were reduced and some key hormones altered when rats were fed unsupplemented raw pea diets. This appeared to be a result of amino acid deficiencies in the diet, the action of antinutritional factors and the refractory nature of the reserve proteins and other seed components. However, this did not in itself improve the nutritional performance of the rats due to the overriding effects of the amino acid deficiencies in the pea diets. After supplementation, extruded peas supported much higher rates of growth and skeletal muscle deposition than did supplemented raw peas. Despite this, the weight gains remained less than achieved on a high quality control diet. Protein synthesis and degradation rates in skeletal muscles and total protein contents were similar to control values. The lower growth rate did not appear to be due to impaired deposition of skeletal muscle. Deposition of other body components, possibly lipids, may have been lowered by supplemented extruded pea diets. Liver protein levels were reduced in rats fed supplemented raw peas and blood corticosterone was elevated. In conclusion, extrusion treatment of peas in combination with amino acid supplementation appeared to abolish the negative effects of peas on skeletal muscle deposition.  相似文献

Improving feed efficiency is a key breeding goal in the beef cattle industry. In this study, we estimated the genetic parameters for feed efficiency and carcass traits in Senepol cattle raised in tropical regions. Various indicators of feed efficiency [gain to feed ratio (G:F), feed conversion ratio (FCR), residual weight gain (RG), residual intake and body weight gain (RIG), and residual feed intake (RFI)] as well as growth [final BW, average daily gain (ADG), and DM intake (DMI)], and carcass [rib-eye area (REA), backfat thickness (BF), intramuscular fat score, and carcass conformation score] traits were included in the study. After data editing, records from 1 393 heifers obtained between 2009 and 2018 were used for the analyses. We fitted an animal model that included contemporary group (animals from the same farm that were evaluated in the same test season) as the fixed effect, and a linear effect of animal age at the beginning of the test as a covariate; in addition to random direct additive genetic and residual effects. The (co)variance components were estimated by Bayesian inference in uni- and bivariate analyses. Our results showed that feed efficiency indicators derived from residual variables such as RG, RIG, and RFI can be improved through genetic selection (h2 = 0.14 ± 0.06, 0.13 ± 0.06, and 0.20 ± 0.08, respectively). Variables calculated as ratios such as G:F and FCR were more influenced by environmental factors (h2 = 0.08 ± 0.05 and 0.09 ± 0.05), and were, therefore, less suitable for use in breeding programs. The traits with the greatest and impact on genetic progress in feed efficiency were ADG, REA, and BF. The traits with the greatest and least impact on growth and carcass traits were RG and RFI, respectively. Selection for feed efficiency will result in distinct overall effects on the growth and carcass traits of Senepol heifers. Direct selection for lower RFI may reduce DMI and increase carcass fatness at the finishing stage, but it might also result in reduced growth and muscle deposition. Residual BW gain is associated with the highest weight gain and zero impact on REA and BF, however, it is linked to higher feed consumption. Thus, the most suitable feed efficiency indicator was RIG, as it promoted the greatest decrease in feed intake concomitant with faster growth, with a similar impact on carcass traits when compared to the other feed efficiency indicators.  相似文献

Channel catfish raised in the southern United States require two growing seasons to reach market size. Growing seasons are separated by a cool period of about 3 months when feed intake and growth are greatly reduced. A cool-weather feeding strategy to improve feed intake, growth or health of catfish might improve survival and reduce the time needed to achieve market size. We conducted a feeding trial with channel catfish at a suboptimal temperature (15°C) to determine the effects of supplementing diets with either a dairy/yeast prebiotic or flaxseed oil (high in 18:3n-3) compared with a control with soybean oil (high in 18:2n-6). The trial was conducted in recirculating systems with 1140-l tanks containing 100 fish each (mean initial weight 61.4 g±0.43 s.e.m.). A 28%-protein basal diet was supplemented with 20 g/kg cellulose and 20 g/kg soybean oil (SBO, control), 20 g/kg cellulose and 20 g/kg flaxseed oil (FLAX) or 20 g/kg of a dairy/yeast prebiotic and 20 g/kg soybean oil (PREB). Fish were fed once daily to satiation and weighed every 3 weeks to track growth. Hematology, non-specific immune responses, proximate and fatty acid composition of muscle were determined to assess diet effects. Catfish-fed FLAX or PREB had higher weight gain, feed consumption and lysozyme activity than fish fed SBO. Total n-3 fatty acids in muscle were higher in fish fed SBO or FLAX than those fed PREB. Total n-6 long-chain polyunsaturated acids were higher in muscle of fish fed PREB than those fed SBO. Fatty acids in the PREB and SBO diets were similar, so the PREB appeared to increase elongation and desaturation of n-6 fatty acids in muscle. Flaxseed oil and the dairy/yeast prebiotic both have potential to increase catfish performance at a low temperature.  相似文献

1. Activities of cathepsins B, D and H were measured in leg and breast muscles of fast growing (broiler) and slow growing (layer) chicks at eight time intervals between 1 and 29 days of age. 2. These enzyme activities were also measured in muscles from fast and slow growing chicks given a low protein (125 g/kg crude protein) diet between the ages of 17 and 24 days. 3. Activities of none of these cathepsins differed greatly between muscle type or strain of chick. However in both strains of chick cathepsin D and H in muscles significantly decreased with increasing age (muscle size) of the chick. Cathepsin D activity also increased when muscle proteolytic rates were increased by feeding a low protein diet. This latter effect was significant only in the muscles of fast growing chicks. 4. The results suggest that lysosomal proteases are not responsible for the differences in muscle protein degradation and growth between fast and slow growing strains of chicks, or between muscle types in the chick.  相似文献

在青脚土杂肉鸡口粮中按照600mg/kg的比例添加绿色产色链霉菌诱变菌株W26菌株的液体深层发酵菌丝体,考察茼丝体别‘肉鸡的生产性能和肌肉品质的影响。实验结果表明:日粮中添加600mg/kg的绿色产色链霉菌菌丝体,叮以显著提高肉鸡的活体重,动物日增重与对照组相比提高了26.84%,显著改善了饲料转化率(P〈0.05)。菌丝体的添加可以提高肉鸡肌肉中必需氨基酸、蛋白质、灰分的含量,降低肌肉肌间脂肪含量,但效果不显著。综合实验结果说明,绿色产色链霉菌诱变菌株的液体深层发酵菌丝体可以显著提高青脚土杂肉鸡的生长性能。  相似文献

These studies have been designed to test whether 1,3-butanediol (BD) alleviates milk fat depression in lactating cows, to observe physiological changes in blood and rumen constituents when BD is fed to cows or growing cattle, and to test the effects of BD on growth rates and feed efficiency in growing cattle. In trials with lactating cows, milk fat percentage and total fat production were higher for cows fed BD than for controls. Feeding BD to either cows or growing cattle had no consistent effect on rumen pH or relative concentrations of rumen volatile fatty acids. 1,3-Butanediol feeding had little effect on blood glucose concentrations. Feeding more than 4% BD in diets sometimes caused increased concentrations of blood ketones. In trials where growing cattle were fed 4% BD, rates of gain and feed efficiency were at least as good as and often better than those of cattle fed the same diets without BD. Body composition was not significantly affected. 1,3-Butanediol can be utilized effectively as an energy source for cattle and causes no obvious problems with 4% in diets.  相似文献

Eight feeding trials using 708 cross-bred pigs were conducted to evaluate the addition of virginiamycin and a commercially-available lactobacillus fermention product (probiotic) to starter, grower and finisher diets based on maize and soya bean meal. Virginiamycin was added at a level of 11 mg/kg of diet, and lactobacillus probiotic at 1 g/kg in starter diets and 500 mg/kg in grower and finisher diets. In the combined analysis of four starter trials, pigs fed on diets containing virginiamycin tended to eat more and grow faster than pigs fed on the control diet, but feed efficiency was not different. Furthermore, daily gain, daily feed intake and feed efficiency were not improved by the addition of lactobacillus probiotic to starter diets. In the combined analysis of a starter—grower—finisher and a grower—finisher trial, virginiamycin supplementation did not alter overall pig performance compared with control. Pigs fed on a positive control diet containing chlortetracycline, penicillin and sulfamethazine had a nonsignificantly greater daily gain and feed intake.Daily gain for the lactobacillus probiotic-fed pigs was lower (P < 0.05) than that of the negative controls, but daily feed intake and feed efficiency were not significantly different. In three growing—finishing trials in which virginiamycin and lactobacillus probiotic were compared in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments, daily gain and feed intakes were greater (P < 0.01) for pigs given virginiamycin. The lactobacillus probiotic did not improve daily gain, feed intake or feed efficiency. Overall, no interaction between virginiamycin and lactobacillus probiotic occurred.  相似文献

A study has been made on growing rats to investigate the effect of variation in percentage of dietary protein calories from 0 to 50% by the use of purified whole egg protein on the growth, food efficiency, protein efficiency ratio (PER), body composition, and efficiencies of protein and energy utilization.

Body weight gain and PER attained a maximum, and food efficiency reached a plateau at 10 PC% (protein calories percent) in the diet, having a constant metabolizable energy content (410 kcal). Body and liver compositions changed in systematic patterns, where liver lipid content showed a specific increase at 5 PC%.

Body protein retention reached a plateau at 15 PC% but with little difference from the value at 10 PC%, while body lipid retention give a maximum at 10 PC% showing a gradual decrease thereafter.

Throughout the given dietary protein to energy ratios, energy utilization was constant when expressed as the increment of body energy retention divided by the increment of metabolizable energy intake. At and above 12 or 13 PC%, the efficiency of net body protein energy retention against metabolizable energy intake was constant at about 12.5% on the average.  相似文献

This review of thyroid influence on body growth in poultry is organized around the following parameters of growth: increase in body weight and skeletal size, muscle growth, and growth of cartilage and bone. The greatest effect of goitrogens on growth of embryos occurs during late embryogenesis at a time when normal thyroid hormone levels are increasing. Posthatching growth is reduced in severely hypothyroid animals, and body weight gain is affected more than bone growth. Thyroid hormone replacement restores body growth of thyroidectomized chickens, but supplemental hormone in normal animals has no beneficial effect on growth. Excessive T3 (fed at 1 ppm) is detrimental to growth and feed efficiency. No clear correlation between thyroid hormone concentration and growth rate of normal chickens has been identified. Growth depression in sex-linked dwarf birds is at least partially reversed by supplemental T3. Muscle growth is reduced in goitrogen-treated chickens and the growth reduction is reversed by supplemental thyroxine. Total DNA accumulation is reduced in hypothyroid chickens, but muscle mass relative to DNA content is normal following long-term treatment; this suggests some regulation of muscle mass relative to DNA content. T3 increases the number of muscle fiber nuclei in hypothyroid chickens and the uptake of 3H-thymidine into nuclei within the basal lamina. T3 directly stimulates growth and maturation of embryonic chick cartilage and enhances the in vitro action of somatomedins on cartilage growth. There is little information concerning the role of the thyroid in posthatching cartilage and bone growth in poultry.  相似文献

Vitamin E (VE), an important lipid-soluble antioxidant, has great influence on growth and maintenance in animal. The effects of VE supplemented diet on growth and feed usage in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was investigated in this study. Three formulated diets containing VE (0, 50 and 100 mg/kg) were fed to Nile tilapia (3.56 ± 0.16 g) in glass aquaria maintaining three replicate groups for 56 days (8 weeks). Survival, growth performance including weight gain, percent weight gain, and specific growth rate (WG, % WG, and SGR), and feed utilization comprising protein efficiency ratio and feed conversion ratio (PER and FCR) were calculated. Hemato-biochemical indices including hemoglobin level (Hb), white blood cell (WBC), red blood cell (RBC) and glucose level were analyzed. In addition, muscle morphology was examined after completion of the experiment. At the end of the trial, WG, %WG, SGR, FCR and PER increased significantly which had dietary VE supplimentation. However, no distinct changes were observed in Hb level, RBC count, WBC count and glucose level among these different dietary groups. Dietary VE treatments significantly upgraded the muscle fiber diameter and lowered the intra-muscle gap. Moreover, quantity of hyperplastic muscle fiber as well as nucleus also significantly enhanced by VE. Morphological structure of muscle characterized by a huge proportion of hyperplastic muscle that may be supposed to contribute the enhanced growth of Nile tilapia receiving VE supplemented diet. Therefore these results suggested that VE incorporation into the feed can be effective to improve the feed efficiency and maximize the growth of O. niloticus.  相似文献

Valuable endophytic strains facilitating plants growth and detoxification of heavy metals are required because the application of plant–endophyte symbiotic system is a promising potential technique to improve efficiency of phytoremediation. In this study, endophytic bacterium LRE07 was isolated from cadmium hyperaccumulator Solanum nigrum L. It was identified as Serratia sp. by 16S rRNA sequence analysis. The endophytic bacterium LRE07 was resistant to the toxic effects of heavy metals, solubilized mineral phosphate, and produced indoleacetic acid and siderophore. The heavy metal detoxification was studied in growing LRE07 cells. The strain bound over 65% of cadmium and 35% of zinc in its growing cells from single metal solutions 72 h after inoculation. Besides the high removal efficiencies in single-ion system, an analogous removal phenomenon was also observed in multi-ions system, indicating that the endophyte possesses specific and remarkable heavy metal remediation abilities.  相似文献

Due to the increasing burden on healthcare budgets of musculoskeletal system disease and injury, there is a growing need for safe, effective and simple therapies. Conditions such as osteoporosis severely impact onquality of life and result in hundreds of hours of hospital time and resources. There is growing interest in the use of low magnitude, high frequency vibration(LMHFV) to improve bone structure and muscle performance in a variety of different patient groups. The technique has shown promise in a number of different diseases, but is poorly understood in terms of the mechanism of action. Scientific papers concerning both the in vivo and in vitro use of LMHFV are growing fast, but they cover a wide range of study types, outcomes measured and regimens tested. This paper aims to provide an overview of some effects of LMHFV found during in vivo studies. Furthermore we will review research concerning the effects of vibration on the cellular responses, in particular for cells within the musculoskeletal system. This includes both osteogenesis and adipogenesis, as well as the interaction between MSCs and other cell types within bone tissue.  相似文献

Satellite cells are myogenic cells attributed with the role of postnatal growth and regeneration in skeletal muscle. Following proliferation and subsequent differentiation, these cells will fuse with one another or with the adjacent muscle fiber, thereby increasing myonuclei numbers for fiber growth and repair. The potential factors which could regulate this process are many, including exercise, trauma, passive stretch, innervation, and soluble growth factors. Three classes of growth factors in particular (fibroblast growth factor, insulin-like growth factor, and transforming growth factor-beta) have been studied extensively with respect to their effects on satellite cell proliferation and differentiation in culture. Fibroblast growth factor has been shown to stimulate proliferation but depress differentiation. Insulin-like growth factor stimulates both proliferation and differentiation, although the latter to a much greater degree. Transforming growth factor-beta slightly depresses proliferation but inhibits differentiation. When administered in combination, these factors can induce satellite cell activities in culture which mimic those typical of satellite cells found in vivo in growing, regenerating, or healthy mature muscle. Alterations in the concentrations of these growth factors in the muscle environment as well as alterations in the cell's sensitivity or responsiveness to these factors represent potential mechanisms for regulating satellite cell activity in situ.  相似文献

The regeneration of neuromuscular connections to the superficial flexor muscle system in the crayfish has been studied under a variety of experimental manipulations. These have provided insight into the factors that can influence the regeneration program of neurons. In this work the regeneration of the largest excitor motoneuron was studied under two different conditions: (1) when the original neuron and a transplanted neuron were growing simultaneously into a denervated target, and (2) when a transplanted neuron was growing into a target that had its original nerve supply intact. In condition 1 both the transplanted and the original neuron formed normal patterns of connectivity and synaptic strength in comparable periods of time. In condition 2 the rate of growth of the transplanted neuron is significantly reduced and does not extend into the lateral fibers of the muscle. It is concluded that the regeneration program of this neuron is not affected by the presence of other neurons growing at the same time into a denervated muscle. Since regeneration is seriously affected if growth occurs into a fully innervated target area, it is suggested that lack of growth stimuli from the target or competitive interactions between established and growing synaptic terminals could influence the regeneration program of this neuron.  相似文献

The effects of arsanilic acid as promoter of faster growth on the nutrition index and intestinal absorption of galactose and arabinose has been studied in growing rats. The rats that received arsanilic acid 0.7 mg/day added to water showed gain in body weight and feed intake, I.T. (feed conversion ratio) decrease and P.E.R. (protein efficiency ratio) increase. A dose of 1.4 mg/day produced harmful effects. The in vitro intestinal transport of galactose and arabinose decreased and increased respectively in animals that received additive in comparison with controls.  相似文献

Liver and muscle proteolytic activities (cathepsin A and D) were measured in growing male chickens fed ad libitum over periods of 30 and 60 days on 20% protein diets containing either heated soybean (HSB, control) or raw field bean (RFB, Vicia faba L.) as the main sources of protein. Vitamin E (250 mg/100 g diet) was added or not to the RFB diet. It has been found that in comparison to control HSB-fed animals, RFB-fed birds showed a significant reduction in the rate of growth, together with a significant increase in the activities of both cathepsins A and D in liver and muscle. The addition of vitamin E to the RFB diet had no significant effect on either weight gain or liver and muscle proteolytic activities. The possible nature of these effects is discussed.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is the learning of neuromuscular control, given the following necessary conditions: (1) time delays in the control loop, (2) non-linear muscle characteristics, (3) learning of feedforward and feedback control, (4) possibility of feedback gain modulation during a task. A control system and learning methodology that satisfy those conditions is given. The control system contains a neural network, comprising both feedforward and feedback control. The learning method is backpropagation through time with an explicit sensitivity model. Results will be given for a one degree of freedom arm with two muscles. Good control results are achieved which compare well with experimental data. Analysis of the controller shows that significant differences in controller characteristics are found if the loop delays are neglected. During a control task the system shows feedback gain modulation, similar to experimentally found reflex gain modulation during rapid voluntary contraction. If only limited feedback information is available to the controller the system learns to co-contract the antagonistic muscle pair.
