XIV International Symposium on Iron Nutrition and Interactions in Plants

The ＂XIV International Symposium on Iron Nutrition and Interactions in Plants＂ （14th ISINIP） will be held in Beijing, China, on 11-15 October 2008. It will be held together with the Annual Meeting of HarvestPlus-China. The joint symposium will provide opportunities to scientists from soil sciences, plant nutrition, plant breeding, animal and human nutrition around the world to communicate their new results and experiences in studying iron nutrition of plants, animal and human for a better understanding of the mechanisms of iron from soils, over plants to animals and human beings. We are delighted to announce an international symposium on stem cell research to be held in Shanghai on November 6-9, 2007. This meeting is co-organized by Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences and several other research institutions in China, together with the International Society for Stem Cell Research （ISSCR）. Conference summary

From August 7-14, 2006, the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences （CAS）, and the Overseas Chinese Entomologists Association （OCEA）, convened a ＂Summer Training Workshop on Modern Entomology and New Technology＂ in Beijing, China. The workshop was held at the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and attracted 130 attendees from 27 research institutes and universities in China. There were 36 talks presented by 21 entomologists. Among them were one prestigious CAS Albert Einstein Visiting Professorship, Prof. Randy Gaugler, 18 scientists from the USA, and three entomologists from the Institute of Zoology. Topics at the workshop covered diverse areas including insect molecular biology, chemical ecology, behavior, immunology, cell biology, toxicology and so on. The workshop was financed by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

<正> 全国首次植物病原真菌毒素研讨会于1991年4月13—17日在南京农业大学召开,参加的单位有复旦大学、北京农业大学、江苏省农科院、沈阳农业大学、河北农业大学和南京农业大学等农业大专院校、农业科研单位和综合性大学21个单位的45位正式代表。我国著名植病学家方中达教授和植病生理学家复旦大学薛应龙教授自始至终到会指导。会议期间特邀请了国际毒素研究中心日本名古屋大学     

第三届全国食用菌学术讨论会在上海召开

<正> 第三届全国食用菌学术讨论会于1987年11月9日至13日在上海市农科院食用菌研究所举行。出席这次学术讨论会的代表、列席代表和特邀代表共250余人,来自全国27个省、市、自治区的184个科研、生产和教学单位,是我国食用菌工作者的一次空前盛会。会议由中国植物学会真菌学会、中国微生物学会联合主持。会议中还参观了食用菌研究所以及马陆、嘉西公社蘑菇种植厂。大会共收到论文300余篇,印发了《全国第三届食用菌学术讨论会论文摘要汇编》。会议学术空气浓厚、安排紧凑,进行了大会与分组学术报告,开展了学术交流与讨论,内容包括研究综述、资源开发、遗传育种、制种技术、营养基质、栽培技术、生理生化、病虫防治、测试技术、贮藏加工、食菌保健等十一个方面。出席今年在西德召开的第十二届国际食用菌学术讨论会的六位代表也在会上介绍了情况,传递了食用菌科研成果的最新信息。为使我国早日跻身于世界食用菌强国之林,与会代表提出了许多宝贵的建议。在会上宣布成立真菌学会下的“食用菌专业组”,组长:杨新美;副组长:卯晓岚、黄年来;组员:方自若、刘日新、毕志树、罗信昌、赵震宇、贺学洋。下届全国食用菌学术讨论会将于1990年召开。     

The role of CD4+ T cell help in cancer immunity and the formulation of novel cancer vaccines

Recent years have seen the unprecedented surge of interest in the role of CD4+ T cells and the role they play in the development of the immune response. In this symposium review, we examine the evidence for this and discuss their functions, particularly in respect to the cancer immunology, including CD4+CD25+ cells (Treg).This article is a symposium paper from the conference “Progress in Vaccination against Cancer 2005 (PIVAC 5)”, held in Athens, Greece, on 20–21 September 2005.Deepak P. Assudani, Roger B.V. Horton and Morgan G. Mathieu are joint first authors and have contributed equally to this paper.

A bold step toward 2012: JIPB's 2011 Editorial Board Meeting report

The 2011 JIPB Editorial Board Meeting,which coincided with the 2011 International Symposium on Integrative Plant Biology,was held at Lanzhou University,China,on August 26,2011.Over thirty editors were in attendance for this extremely productive event (Figure 1).The symposium,jointly organized by JIPB,Lanzhou University and four Chinese societies involved in plant science research,the Chinese Society for Cell Biology,Botanical Society of China,Genetics Society of China,and Chinese Society for Plant Physiology,drew nearly 400 participants from all over China and abroad.     

自然资本科学和决策实践:宜居城市和可持续发展——2018年自然资本项目年会述评

2018年自然资本项目年会(Natural Capital Project Symposium)于3月19日至22日在美国斯坦福大学举行。自然资本项目由美国斯坦福大学、世界自然基金会和大自然保护协会发起,旨在推进将科学和融入自然多元价值的实践纳入管理决策过程。本次会议正式邀请并宣布中国科学院生态环境研究中心为项目伙伴。会议吸引了来自33个国家363名政府工作人员、非政府组织成员、企业家和专家学者参加。本届年会的两大主题是宜居城市和可持续发展。会议包含9个大会主题报告和3个平行分会场,平行分会场归纳为宜居城市、可持续发展、淡水和流域管理、海岸带恢复力、投资标准化制定、模型培训和探索等六个方面;会议同时设有专题讨论和小组研讨、InVEST模型培训和讨论、墙报展示等。会议推进了生态系统服务的科学发展和实践应用,将自然资本纳入科学决策体系,在全球范围内推动科学和决策的融合、促进可持续发展。     

Complement decay accelerating factor (DAF)/CD55 in cancer

The complement system is a powerful innate mechanism involved in protection of the host against pathogens. It also has a role in the clearance of apoptotic cells and has been implicated in a range of pathologies including autoimmunity and graft rejection. The control of complement is mediated through the complement regulatory proteins (CRPs). These are present on most cells and protect normal cells from complement-mediated attack during innate activation. However, in a range of pathologies and cancer, these molecules are up or down regulated, sometimes secreted and even lost. We will review the expression of CRPs in cancer, focussing on CD55 and highlight other roles of the CRPs and their involvement in leukocyte function. We will also provide some data providing a potential mechanism by which soluble CD55 can inhibit T-cell function and discuss some of the implications of this data.This article is a symposium paper from the “Robert Baldwin Symposium: 50 years of Cancer Immunotherapy”, held in Nottingham, Great Britain, on 30 June 2005.     

Oxidative Mechanisms in Neurodegenerative Disorders. Proceedings from a satellite symposium, Guilin, China, 7-11 February 2004

This special issue of Molecular Neurobiology presents a series of mini-reviews resulting from an ISN satellite symposium entitled Oxidative Mechanisms in Neurodegenerative Disorders Held at the Guilin Park Hotel, Guilin, China on February 7-11, 2004. The timely topics in this symposium were contributed by more than 20 internationally acclaimed scientists and attended by more than 100 participants interested in this subject matter. This satellite symposium was also part of the 6th Biennial Asian-Pacific Society for Neurochemistry (APSN) meeting held in Hong Kong, China. Organizers included Dr. Piu Chan (Capital University of Medical Sciences and Beijing Institute of Geriatrics) Dr. Albert Y. Sun and Dr. Grace Y. Sun (University of Missouri, Columbia, MO). Blurring the distinctions between insect pests of animals and plants

The Royal Entomological Society International Symposium on Insects and Disease was held at the University of Aberdeen on 10-12 September 2001. The symposium was run alongside the society's Annual Meeting (the first time this meeting has been held outside England) in association with the International Union of Forest Research Organisations and the Entomological Society of The Netherlands. The symposium was divided into three sessions: The Insect-Host-Disease Interface; Ecology, Epidemiology and Modelling, and Insect Control in the New Millennium.
