The possibility that plasma levels of malonaldehyde (MDA) are altered by exercise has been examined. The presence of MDA has been recognized to reflect peroxidation of lipids resulting from reactions with free radicals. Maximal exercise, eliciting 100% of maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) resulted in a 26% increase in plasma MDA (P less than 0.005). Short periods of intermittent exercise, the intensity of which was varied, indicated a correlation between lactate and MDA (r2 = 0.51) (p less than 0.001). Blood lactate concentrations increased throughout this exercise regimen. A significant decrease (10.3%) in plasma MDA occurred at 40% VO2max. At 70% VO2max plasma MDA was still below resting values, however the trend to an increase in MDA with exercise intensity was evident. At exhaustion, plasma MDA and lactate were significantly greater than at rest. These results suggest, that exhaustive maximal exercise induces free radical generation while short periods of submaximal exercise (i.e. less than 70% VO2max) may inhibit it and lipid peroxidation.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to estimate the oxygen uptake (&OV0312;O2) in elite youth soccer players using measures of heart rate (HR) and ratings of perceived exertion (RPEs). Forty-six regional-level male youth soccer players (~13 years) participated in 2 VO(2)max tests. Data for HR, RPE, and VO(2) were simultaneously recorded during the VO(2)max tests with incremental running speed. Regression equations were derived from the first VO(2)max test. Two weeks later, all players performed the same VO(2)max test to validate the developed regression equations. There were no significant differences between the estimated values in the first test and actual values in the second test. During the continuous endurance exercise, the combination of percentage of maximal HR (%HRmax) and RPE measures gave similar estimation of %VO(2)max (R = 83%) in comparison to %HRmax alone (R = 81%). However, the estimation of VO(2) using combined %HRmax and RPE was not satisfactory (R = 45-46%). Therefore, the use of %HRmax (without RPE) to estimate %VO(2)max could be a useful tool in young soccer players during field-based continuous endurance testing and training. Specifically, coaches can use the %HRmax to quantify internal loads (%VO(2)max) and subsequently implement continuous endurance training at appropriate intensities. Furthermore, it seems that RPE is more useful as a measure of internal load during noncontinuous (e.g., intermittent and sprint) exercises but not to estimate %VO(2)max during continuous aerobic exercise (R = 59%).  相似文献

We used endurance training and acute anemia to assess the interactions among maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max), muscle oxidative capacity, and exercise endurance in rats. Animals were evaluated under four conditions: untrained and endurance-trained with each group subdivided into anemic (animals with reduced hemoglobin concentrations) and control (animals with unchanged hemoglobin concentrations). Anemia was induced by isovolemic plasma exchange transfusion. Hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit were decreased by 38 and 41%, respectively. Whole body VO2max was decreased by 18% by anemia regardless of training condition. Anemia significantly reduced endurance by 78% in untrained rats but only 39% in trained animals. Endurance training resulted in a 10% increase in VO2max, a 75% increase in the distance run to exhaustion, and 35, 45, and 58% increases in skeletal muscle pyruvate-malate, alpha-ketoglutarate, and palmitylcarnitine oxidase activities, respectively. We conclude that endurance is related to the interactive effects of whole body VO2max and muscle oxidative capacities for the following reasons: 1) anemic untrained and trained animals had similar VO2max but trained rats had higher muscle oxidative capacities and greater endurance; 2) regardless of training status, the effect of acute anemia was to decrease VO2max and endurance; and 3) trained anemic rats had lower VO2max but had greater muscle oxidative capacity and greater endurance than untrained controls.  相似文献

This study was conducted to obtain additional information about the adaptations after 12 wk of high-fat diet (HFD) per se or HFD combined with endurance training in the rat using a two [diet: carbohydrate (CHO) or HFD] by two (training: sedentary or trained) by two (condition at death: rested or exercised) factorial design. Adaptation to prolonged HFD increases maximal O2 uptake (VO2max; 13%, P less than 0.05) and submaximal running endurance (+64%, P less than 0.05). This enhancement in exercise capacity could be attributed to 1) an increase in skeletal muscle aerobic enzyme activities (3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase and citrate synthase in soleus and red quadriceps) or 2) a decrease in liver glycogen breakdown in response to 1 h exercise at 80% VO2max. When training is superimposed to HFD, the most prominent finding provided by this study is that the diet-induced effects are cumulative with the well-known training effect on VO2max, exercise endurance, oxidative capacity of red muscle, and metabolic responses to exercise, with a further reduction in liver glycogen breakdown.  相似文献

The effects of 12 weeks of a low-intensity general conditioning programme on maximal instantaneous peak power (Wpeak) and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) were examined in 20 elderly women. After medical, familiarisation, and ethical procedures, the subjects were randomly divided into either a training and or a control group. The training group [n = 11; mean (SD) age 63.0 (3.1) years] agreed to take part in a 12-week training programme at an exercise intensity kept under 60% of the heart rate reserve for about 60 min, 3 times a week. The control group [n = 9; mean (SD) age 63.5 (3.3) years] did not perform any particular physical training. Before and after the training period, all participants underwent anthropometric measures and a maximal cycling test to exhaustion to measure their VO2max. In addition, Wpeak was determined 1 week later by the subjects performing a vertical jump from a squatting position on a force platform. Following training, neither the anthropometric characteristics nor the VO2max changed in either of the groups. In contrast, Wpeak increased significantly (P < 0.001) in the training group, but did not change in the control group. This result could be interpreted as the result of an improved level of neuromuscular activation. Furthermore, it shows that although muscle power declines with age at a faster rate than does aerobic power, its sensitivity to training seems to be higher than that of the aerobic system.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the seasonal changes in body composition and aerobic performance in elite soccer players. Twelve elite professional soccer players (aged 25 6 5 years, weight 75.7 6 5.3 kg, height 1.79 6 0.06 m) were measured for body fat (%), maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max), running velocity at VO2max (VO2max), running velocity at a fixed blood lactate concentration of 4 mmol · L21 (v-4 mM) at the start of the preseason period, at the beginning of the competitive period, and at midseason. VO2max, v-4 mM, and vVO2max increased significantly (p , 0.05) by 4.5, 10.5, and 7.8,respectively, after the preseason period. Thereafter, the aerobic performance parameters remained relatively constant, with no significant changes throughout the competitive period. The results of this study suggest that moderate improvements were observed in VO2max, and the %VO2max at 4 v-4 mM, whereas higher improvements were observed in VO2max and v-4 mmol · L21 after the preseason training period. On the other hand, during the competitive period, aerobic performance remained unchanged. In addition, this study suggests that heart rate, lactate, vVO2, and VO2max are useful and practical predictors that help monitor aerobic performance changes during a soccer season.  相似文献

The primary objective of this study was to assess the relationship between aerobic capacity, as measured by the VO(2)max test, and recovery from high-intensity intermittent exercise. Eleven female collegiate hockey players agreed to participate. Subjects skated 5 1-lap intervals around the hockey rink at maximal intensity with a 30-second recovery period between skates. The VO(2)max test was performed on a motor-driven treadmill after a modified Bruce protocol. A fatigue index was calculated by measuring the total increase in skate time from trial 1 to trial 5. This fatigue index was then correlated to VO(2)max. This correlation coefficient (-0.422) was not significant (p > 0.05) and indicated that only 17.8% of the variance in VO(2)max could be explained by the fatigue index. It was concluded that ability to recover from high-intensity intermittent exercise is not related to aerobic capacity. Coaches and trainers probably do not need to include aerobic training in their practices, because the high-intensity interval training commonly seen in hockey training also improves aerobic capacity, as reflected in the high VO(2)max values of these subjects.  相似文献

To study the effects of exercise intensity and duration on excess postexercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), 8 men [age = 27.6 (SD 3.8) years, VO2max = 46.1 (SD 8.5) ml min-1 kg-1] performed four randomly assigned cycle-ergometer tests (20 min at 60% VO2max, 40 min at 60% VO2max, 20 min at 70% VO2max, and 40 min at 70% VO2max). O2 uptake, heart rate and rectal temperature were measured before, during, and for 1 h following the exercise tests. Blood for plasma lactate measurements was obtained via cannulae before, and at selected times, during and following exercise. VO2 rapidly declined to preexercise levels following each of the four testing sessions, and there were no differences in EPOC between the sessions. Blood lactate and rectal temperature increased (P < 0.05) with exercise, but had returned to preexercise levels by 40 min of recovery. The results indicate that VO2 returned to resting levels within 40 min after the end of exercise, regardless of the intensity (60% and 70% VO2max) or duration (20 min and 40 min) of the exercise, in men with a moderate aerobic fitness level.  相似文献

Aerobic capacity (VO2max) of endothermic vertebrates is known to increase with exercise training, but this effect has not been found to-date in non-avian reptiles. We exercised juvenile estuarine crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) to walk at 0.75-0.88 km/h on a treadmill for up to 20 min a day over 16 weeks, and compared their aerobic performance with that of unexercised crocodiles. In the exercised group, VO2max increased from 6.9 to 8.5 mLO2/kg/min (+28%), and locomotor endurance increased from 3.8 to 6.9 min (+82%). Neither VO2max nor endurance changed significantly in the sedentary group. This finding extends the exercise training effect onto another vertebrate clade, and demonstrates that ectothermic amniotes are capable of elevating their aerobic capacity in response to exercise training. We propose that differences in cardiopulmonary structure and function in non-avian reptiles may be responsible for the absence (in squamates) or presence (in crocodilians) of a strong training effect on aerobic capacity.  相似文献

We examined the influence of various carbohydrates of fuel homeostasis and glycogen utilization during prolonged exercise. Seventy-five grams of glucose, fructose, or placebo were given orally to eight healthy males 45 min before ergometer exercise performed for 2 h at 55% of maximal aerobic power (VO2max). After glucose ingestion, the rises in plasma glucose (P less than 0.01) and insulin (P less than 0.001) were 2.4- and 5.8-fold greater than when fructose was consumed. After 30 min of exercise following glucose ingestion, the plasma glucose concentration had declined to a nadir of 3.9 +/- 0.3 mmol/l, and plasma insulin had returned to basal levels. The fall in plasma glucose was closely related to the preexercise glucose (r = 0.98, P less than 0.001) and insulin (r = 0.66, P less than 0.05) levels. The rate of endogenous glucose production and utilization rose similarly by 2.8-fold during exercise in fructose group and were 10-15% higher than in placebo group (P less than 0.05). Serum free fatty acid levels were 1.5- to 2-fold higher (P less than 0.01) after placebo than carbohydrate ingestion. Muscle glycogen concentration in the quadriceps femoris fell in all three groups by 60-65% (P less than 0.001) during exercise. These data indicate that fructose ingestion, though causing smaller perturbations in plasma glucose, insulin, and gastrointestinal polypeptide (GIP) levels than glucose ingestion, was no more effective than glucose or placebo in sparing glycogen during a long-term exercise.  相似文献

The purposes of the present study were to characterize the histochemical and enzymatic profiles of various hindlimb skeletal muscles, as well as to determine maximal O2 consumption (VO2max) and respiratory exchange ratios (R) during steady-state exercise in the obese Zucker rat. The changes that occurred in these parameters in response to a 6-wk training program were then assessed. Obese rats were randomly assigned to a sedentary or training group. Lean littermates served as a second control. Training consisted of treadmill running at 18 m/min up an 8% grade, 1.5 h/day, 5 day/wk for 6 wk. During week 6, VO2max and R during a steady-state run (74% max) were determined. After 2 days of inactivity, hindlimb muscles were excised, stained for fiber type and capillaries, and assayed for hexokinase, citrate synthase, cytochrome oxidase, and beta-hydroxyacetyl-CoA dehydrogenase. The obese sedentary rats demonstrated greater oxidative enzyme activities per gram of muscle tissue than their lean littermates, greater R values during submaximal exercise of the same relative intensity, and greater absolute VO2max values. Training resulted in a 20-56% increase in oxidative enzymes, a 10% increase in VO2max, and an increase in capillary density in the soleus and plantaris. There was no alteration in R values during exercise at 74% VO2max or in fiber type composition in response to exercise training. Results suggest that the muscle of the obese Zucker rat manifests a greater oxidative capacity than the muscle of its lean littermates. The apparent inability of the obese rat to increase its use of fat during submaximal exercise of the same relative intensity in response to training remains to be elucidated.  相似文献

First-degree relatives of type 2 diabetic patients (offspring) are often characterized by insulin resistance and reduced physical fitness (VO2 max). We determined the response of healthy first-degree relatives to a standardized 10-wk exercise program compared with an age-, sex-, and body mass index-matched control group. Improvements in VO2 max (14.1 +/- 11.3 and 16.1 +/- 14.2%; both P < 0.001) and insulin sensitivity (0.6 +/- 1.4 and 1.0 +/- 2.1 mg x kg(-1) x min(-1); both P < 0.05) were comparable in offspring and control subjects. However, VO2 max and insulin sensitivity in offspring were not related at baseline as in the controls (r = 0.009, P = 0.96 vs. r = 0.67, P = 0.002). Likewise, in offspring, exercise-induced changes in VO2 max did not correlate with changes in insulin sensitivity as opposed to controls (r = 0.06, P = 0.76 vs. r = 0.57, P = 0.01). Skeletal muscle oxidative capacity tended to be lower in offspring at baseline but improved equally in both offspring and controls in response to exercise training (delta citrate synthase enzyme activity 26 vs. 20%, and delta cyclooxygenase enzyme activity 25 vs. 23%. Skeletal muscle fiber morphology and capillary density were comparable between groups at baseline and did not change significantly with exercise training. In conclusion, this study shows that first-degree relatives of type 2 diabetic patients respond normally to endurance exercise in terms of changes in VO2 max and insulin sensitivity. However, the lack of a correlation between the VO2 max and insulin sensitivity in the first-degree relatives of type 2 diabetic patients indicates that skeletal muscle adaptations are dissociated from the improvement in VO2 max. This could indicate that, in first-degree relatives, improvement of insulin sensitivity is dissociated from muscle mitochondrial functions.  相似文献

A statistically significant 10% increase (p less than 0.005) in mean red cell 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) concentration, concomitantly with a mean 16% increase (p less than 0.001) in the predicted maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) was observed in 29 recruits, who were studied during 6 months of physical training in military service. The increase in 2,3-DPG was higher, the lower the initial 2,3-DPG and VO2max levels. The mean initial 2,3-DPG level was higher in the subjects with a higher initial VO2max. A strenuous but highly aerobic 21-km marching exercise elicited a mean 9% increase (p less than 0.005) in red cell 2,3-DPG concentration. A significantly greater response of 2,3-DPG to marching exercise was observed in subjects with a lower pre-test VO2max than in those with a higher pre-test VO2max. During another more competitive march 2,3-DPG remained almost unchanged and was associated with a tendency towards a negative correlation with the acccompanying lactate response (r = -0.60, p less than 0.05). Red cell 2,3-DPG response to a standardized exercise is considered to be a suitable indicator for evaluating the effect of training on an individual.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of aerobic and anaerobic training on serum lipid peroxidation levels and on antioxidant enzyme activities. Long distance runners for aerobic training group, and wrestlers for anaerobic training group were chosen. Non-sporting men were used as control group. When the aerobic power was compared; indirect VO2max of long-distance runners were found higher than wrestlers and control group (p<0.001, p<0.001). When lipid peroxidation levels were compared; levels of the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) of long distance runners were found to be lower than those in the control group (p<0.05), but similar to those found in wrestlers. Comparison of antioxidant enzyme activities in erythrocytes show that there were no significant difference among the groups in superoxide dismutase enzyme activities, but glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity of long distance runners was higher than that measured in wrestlers (p<0.05). These results suggest that aerobic training increased in erythrocytes GPx activity with a subsequent decrease in plasma TBARS levels but anaerobic training had no effect on this process.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to describe the dynamics of carnitine metabolism during an acute episode of exercise. Twenty-eight subjects (14 male; 14 female) exercised for 40 min on a bicycle ergometer at 55% of their maximal aerobic capacities. Blood samples were obtained at rest, 10, 20, 30, and 40 min of exercise, and 15-min postexercise. Muscle biopsies of the vastus lateralis were performed before and after exercise. Results demonstrated that the percent of acylated plasma carnitine increased significantly (P less than 0.05) across all subjects from 17.3% at rest to 22.3% by 40 min of exercise and continued to increase to 22.8% 15-min postexercise. Total muscle carnitine levels fell significantly (P less than 0.001) across all subjects from 4.21 (1.27) (means +/- SD) mumol/g wet weight at rest to 3.29 (1.27) mumol/g wet weight after exercise. Well-trained males and females had almost identical levels of muscle carnitine [4.35(1.86) and 4.34 (0.64) mumol/g wet weight, respectively]. These levels were somewhat higher but not significantly higher than their moderately trained counterparts [3.86(1.34) and 4.28(1.18) males and females, respectively]. Carnitine palmitoyl transferase (E.C. 2.3.1.21) activity also declined significantly (P less than 0.05) across all subjects after exercise. This study is the first to demonstrate a potential loss of acylated carnitine forms from muscle to plasma during acute exercise, possibly reflecting an increase in carnitine turnover. Alterations in carnitine status may represent another metabolic adaptation to chronic exercise training.  相似文献

The present study sought to evaluate the inconsistencies previously observed regarding the predominance of continuous or interval training for improving fitness. The experimental design initially equated and subsequently maintained the same relative exercise intensity by both groups throughout the program. Twelve subjects were equally divided into continuous (CT, exercise at 50% maximal work) or interval (IT, 30 s work, 30 s rest at 100% maximal work) training groups that cycled 30 min day-1, 3 days.week-1, for 8 weeks. Following training, aerobic power (VO2max), exercising work rates, and peak power output were all higher (9-16%) after IT than after CT (5-7%). Vastus lateralis muscle citrate synthase activity increased 25% after CT but not after IT. A consistent increase in adenylate kinase activity (25%) was observed only after IT. During continuous cycling testing the CT group had reduced blood lactate (lab) levels and respiratory quotient at both the same absolute and relative (70% VO2max) work rates after training, while the IT group displayed similar changes only at the same absolute work rates. By contrast, both groups responded similarly during intermittent cycling testing with lower lab concentrations seen only at absolute work rates. These results show that, of the two types of training programs currently employed, IT produces higher increases in VO2max and in maximal exercise capacity. Nevertheless, CT is more effective at increasing muscle oxidative capacity and delaying the accumulation of lab during continuous exercise.  相似文献

The hormonal response of 32 older men (70-80years) to a bout of sub-maximum aerobic exercise was examined before, after 16weeks of resistance or aerobic training and again after 4weeks of detraining. Blood samples were obtained at rest and immediately post sub-maximum exercise (30min @ 70% VO(2) max) to determine the concentrations of growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), testosterone (Test), sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and the calculation of free testosterone (FT). Both training groups had significant increases in leg strength and VO(2) max after 16weeks training but leg strength and VO(2) max returned to pre-training levels in the aerobic training and resistance training groups, respectively. During the 20week study there was no change in resting concentrations of any hormones among the three groups. There was no increase in GH, IGF-1 or SHBG immediately post sub-maximum exercise in any of the groups before training, after 16weeks training or after 4weeks detraining. Testosterone and FT increased immediately post sub-maximum exercise within all groups before training, after 16weeks training and after 4weeks detraining with the increase in Test and FT higher after 16weeks of resistance training compared to before training and after 4weeks detraining within the resistance training group. The increased responsiveness of Test and FT after 16weeks of resistance training was lost after 4weeks of detraining. Our results indicate that some physiological and hormonal adaptations gained after 16weeks training are lost after only 4weeks detraining.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to compare time spent at a high percentage of VO2max (>90% of VO2max) (ts90%), time to achieve 90% of VO2max (ta90%), and time to exhaustion (TTE) for exercise in the severe intensity domain in children and adults. Fifteen prepubertal boys (10.3 ± 0.9 years) and 15 men (23.5 ± 3.6 years) performed a maximal graded exercise to determine VO2max, maximal aerobic power (MAP) and power at ventilatory threshold (PVTh). Then, they performed 4 constant load exercises in a random order at PVTh plus 50 and 75% of the difference between MAP and PVTh (PΔ50 and PΔ75) and 100 and 110% of MAP (P100 and P110). VO2max was continuously monitored. The P110 test was used to determine maximal accumulated oxygen deficit (MAOD). No significant difference was found in ta90% between children and adults. ts90% and TTE were not significantly different between children and adults for the exercises at PΔ50 and PΔ75. However, ts90% and TTE during P100 (p < 0.05 and p < 0.01, respectively) and P110 (p < 0.001) exercises were significantly shorter in children. Children had a significantly lower MAOD than adults (34.3 ± 9.4 ml · kg vs. 53.6 ± 11.1 ml · kg). A positive relationship (p < 0.05) was obtained between MAOD and TTE values during the P100 test in children. This study showed that only for intensities at, or higher than MAP, lower ts90% in children was linked to a reduced TTE, compared to adults. Shorter TTE in children can partly be explained by a lower anaerobic capacity (MAOD). These results give precious information about exercise intensity ranges that could be used in children's training sessions. Moreover, they highlight the implication of both aerobic and anaerobic processes in endurance performances in both populations.  相似文献

The present study investigated the effect of exercise training at different intensities on fat oxidation in obese men. Twenty-four healthy male obese subjects were randomly divided in either a low- [40% maximal oxygen consumption (VO(2 max))] or high-intensity exercise training program (70% VO(2 max)) for 12 wk, or a non-exercising control group. Before and after the intervention, measurements of fat metabolism at rest and during exercise were performed by using indirect calorimetry, [U-(13)C]palmitate, and [1,2-(13)C]acetate. Furthermore, body composition and maximal aerobic capacity were measured. Total fat oxidation did not change at rest in any group. During exercise, after low-intensity exercise training, fat oxidation was increased by 40% (P < 0.05) because of an increased non-plasma fatty acid oxidation (P < 0.05). High-intensity exercise training did not affect total fat oxidation during exercise. Changes in fat oxidation were not significantly different among groups. It was concluded that low-intensity exercise training in obese subjects seemed to increase fat oxidation during exercise but not at rest. No effect of high-intensity exercise training on fat oxidation could be shown.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of strenuous endurance training on day-to-day changes in oxygen uptake (VO2) on-kinetics (time constant) at the onset of exercise. Four healthy men participated in strenuous training for 30 min.day-1, 6 days.week-1 for 3 weeks. The VO2 was measured breath-by-breath every day except Sunday at exercise intensities corresponding to the lactate threshold (LT) and the onset of blood lactate accumulation (OBLA) which were obtained before training. Furthermore, an incremental exercise test was performed to determine LT, OBLA and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) before and after the training period and every weekend. The 30-min heavy endurance training was performed on a cycle ergometer 5 days.week-1 for 3 weeks. Another six men served as the control group. After training, significant reductions of the VO2 time constant for exercise at the pretraining LT exercise intensity (P less than 0.05) and at OBLA exercise intensity (P less than 0.01) were observed, whereas the VO2 time constants in the control group did not change significantly. A high correlation between the decrease in the VO2 time constant and training day was observed in exercise at the pretraining LT exercise intensity (r = -0.76; P less than 0.001) as well as in the OBLA exercise intensity (r = -0.91; P less than 0.001). A significant reduction in the blood lactate concentration during submaximal exercise and in the heart rate on-kinetics was observed in the training group.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
