This article describes an original psychological test on verbal creative work comprising a number of tasks designed to study the organization of creative processes in human brain with the help of positron emission tomography (PET) and electroencephalography (EEG). When approved in a group of 30 healthy volunteers, the test revealed principal cognitive strategies of performing creative tasks which formed the basis for elaborating criteria for selecting subjects for physiological study. Empirical substantiation of the proposed test showed its validity for the use in the psychophysiological investigation of creative work.  相似文献

Specific changes in the bioelectrical activity of the brain have been found in 27 patients with different levels of posttraumatic consciousness depression (stupor, spoor-coma I, coma II) by the methods of cross correlation, and coherence and factor EEG analysis. The changes in activity of the morphofunctional systems of intracerebral integrations were expressed partly in a decrease in the nonspecific activating effects from brainstem structures, which was reflected in an increase in the slow wave activity along with a considerable decrease in the level of EEG coherence in the α and β ranges. The observed depression of the system’s organization of the interrelations of the bioelectrical brain activity in the frontal and occipital regions of both hemispheres could be due to a decreased activity of the associative systems of intercortical and thalamocortical integration. The results suggest a certain facilitation of the activity of the system providing direct interhemispheric connections through the corpus calossum and other commissural tracts of the telencephalon as a consequence of the depression of the mesodiencephalon structures (which normally largely contribute to the synergistic interhemispheric interaction via synchronous ascending effects on the cortex of both hemispheres). This results in steady, reciprocal, and almost antiphase relations of slow wave activity in symmetrical areas of the hemispheres.  相似文献

Coherence (COH) of rhythmic components of the EEG α rhythm at rest was analyzed to demonstrate that the maturation of deep regulatory systems (RSs) of the brain at different levels substantially affected the functional organization of the cerebral cortex and the time course of the formation of intercentral connections in young schoolchildren. The specific effect of fronto-thalamic regulatory system immaturity (FRSI) was a decrease in the α-rhythm COH predominantly in neighboring left-hemispheric derivations of foci in the anterior temporal area. A deficit of nonspecific activation had the strongest effect on the α-rhythm integration of right-hemispheric areas, although this effect was less distinct than that of FRSI and remained only as a tendency by the age of nine to ten years. Children with normal and functionally immature cerebral RSs differed from each other with respect to age-related changes in the corticocortical connections, especially in the left hemisphere. In the norm, intense growth of functional connections in the left hemisphere ceased in the period between seven to eight and nine to ten years of age; in contrast, children with RS immaturity exhibited a trend towards an increasingly greater amount of these connections in both hemispheres, which, apparently, corresponded to an earlier stage of ontogeny.  相似文献

Although studies of the relationship between animal abuse and intimate partner violence have proliferated in recent years, building upon previous work and making cross-study comparisons have been rendered difficult by the utilization of differing operationalizations of animal maltreatment within this literature. This paper aims to mitigate this problem by introducing and detailing a scale of animal maltreatment by romantic partners, developed and tested with a sample of 55 women in domestic violence shelters who self-identified as victims of intimate partner violence. The Partner’s Treatment of Animals Scale (PTAS) is comprised of five scales (emotional animal abuse, threats to harm animals, animal neglect, physical animal abuse, and severe physical animal abuse) that have strong demonstrated reliability. The construction of the scales is presented in this paper, and recommendations are made for employing the PTAS in subsequent studies.  相似文献

Rasmussen’s encephalitis (RE) is a rare and severe progressive epileptic syndrome with unknown etiology. Infection by viruses, including human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), has been speculated to be a potential trigger for RE. However, no viral antigens have been detected in the brains of patients with RE; thus, a possible clinical linkage between viral infections and RE has not been firmly established. In this study, we evaluated the expression of HCMV pp65 antigen in brain sections from 26 patients with RE and 20 non-RE patients by immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, and assessed the associations between HCMV infection and clinical parameters. Elevated expression of HCMV pp65 protein and DNA was observed in 88.5% (23/26) and 69.2% (18/26) of RE cases, respectively. In the non-RE group, HCMV pp65 antigen was detected only in two cases (10%), both of which were negative for DNA staining. Additionally, the intensity of HCMV pp65 staining was correlated with a shorter duration of the prodromal stage, younger age of seizure onset, and more severe unilateral cortical atrophy. Elevated expression of HCMV pp65 was observed in RE brain tissue and was correlated with the clinical features of RE disease. In summary, our results suggested that HCMV infection may be involved in the occurrence and progression of RE disease. Thus, further studies are needed to determine whether early treatment with anti-HCMV antibodies could modulate the course of RE.

Spatiotemporal structures of receptive-fields (RF) have been studied for simple cells in area 18 of eat by measuring the temporal transfer function (TTF) over different locations (subregions) within the RF. The temporal characteristics of different subregions differed from each other in the absolute phase shift (APS) to visual stimuli. Two types of relationships can be seen: (i)The APS varied continuously from one subregion to the next: (ii) A 180°-phase jump was seen as the stimulus position changed somewhere within the receptive field. Spatiotemporal receptive field profiles have been determined by applying reverse Fourier analysis to responses in the frequency domain. For the continuous type, spatial and temporal characteristics cannot be dissociated (space time inseparable) and the spatiotemporal structure is oriented. On the contrary, the spatial and temporal characteristics for the jumping type can be dissociated (space-time separable) and the structure is not oriented in the space-time plane. Based on the APSs measured at different subregions, the optimal direction of motion and optimal spatial frequency of neurons can be predicted.  相似文献

In this immunohistopathological study α1-antichymotrypsin, which is barely demonstrable in the normal brain, was found in amyloid fibrils, endothelial cells and the cytoplasm of astroglial cells in brains from patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Amyloid precursors stained with methenamine silver were arrayed mainly along the membranes, and amyloid fibrils, which stained densely with anti-α1-antichymotrypsin, were in direct contact with the fibrous structures connecting with the membranes of vascular feet or astrocytic processes. From the above findings, α1-antichymotrypsin seems to play a role in the production of amyloid fibrils in Alzheimer’s disease.  相似文献

Damage to DNA by dopamine quinone and/or catechol estrogen quinones may play a significant role in the initiation of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Depurinating estrogen–DNA adducts are shed from cells and excreted in urine. The aim of this study was to discover whether higher levels of estrogen–DNA adducts are associated with PD. Forty estrogen metabolites, conjugates, and DNA adducts were analyzed in urine samples from 20 PD cases and 40 matched controls by using ultra performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry. The levels of adducts in cases versus controls (P?<?0.005) suggest that unbalanced estrogen metabolism could play a causal role in the initiation of PD.  相似文献

Progression of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) entails deterioration or aberrant function of multiple brain cell types, eventually leading to neurodegeneration and cognitive decline. Defining how complex cell–cell interactions become dysregulated in AD requires novel human cell-based in vitro platforms that could recapitulate the intricate cytoarchitecture and cell diversity of the human brain. Brain organoids (BOs) are 3D self-organizing tissues that partially resemble the human brain architecture and can recapitulate AD-relevant pathology. In this review, we highlight the versatile applications of different types of BOs to model AD pathogenesis, including amyloid-β and tau aggregation, neuroinflammation, myelin breakdown, vascular dysfunction, and other phenotypes, as well as to accelerate therapeutic development for AD.  相似文献

Three-year-old children were observed in two free-play sessions and participated in a toy-retrieval task, in which only one of six tools could be used to retrieve an out-of-reach toy. Boys engaged in more object-oriented play than girls and were more likely to use tools to retrieve the toy during the baseline tool-use task. All children who did not retrieve the toy during the baseline trials did so after being given a hint, and performance on a transfer-of-training tool-use task approached ceiling levels. This suggests that the sex difference in tool use observed during the baseline phase does not reflect a difference in competency, but rather a sex difference in motivation to interact with objects. Amount of time boys, but not girls, spent in object-oriented play during the free-play sessions predicted performance on the tool-use task. The findings are interpreted in terms of evolutionary theory, consistent with the idea that boys’ and girls’ play styles evolved to prepare them for adult life in traditional environments.  相似文献

The lectin-binding patterns in Auerbach's plexus in the distal portions of the rat colon from 15- to 21-day-old foetuses, newborns, and adults were examined by light and electron microscopy using 16 different lectins (ConA, RCA-1, WGA, PNA, SBA, UEA-1, DBA, LCA, PHA-L, DSA, GS-1, VVA, MPA, BPA, MAA, and PSA). The binding of ConA was shown to increase after day 19 of gestation in parallel with differentiation of Auerbach's plexus, whereas the staining intensity for DSA and RCA-1 increased after day 17 of gestation in accordance with the appearance of the plexus. At the electron microscopical level, DSA binding sites were observed to be localized mainly in the plasma membrane, Golgi apparatus, and nuclear membrane of nerve cells. Positive sites were also observed in the axolemma and in the plasma membrane of nerve cell processes, Schwann cells, and the surrounding smooth muscle cells. PSA, PHA-L, LCA, and WGA showed constant staining during the development after day 15 of gestation. Other lectins, most of which are specific for O-glycosidic mucin-type sugar residues, were essentially negative throughout the developmental stages. Moreover, N-glycanase digestion significantly diminished the positive reactions. N-linked oligosaccharides may thus play important roles in the development and maturation of the Auerbach's plexus, and may be involved in the developmental defect of the plexus, e.g. as occurs in Hirschsprung's disease.  相似文献
