The external proprioceptor organs of Cicadella viridis (L.) (Homoptera: Cicadellidae) are identified and localized. They are composed of hair and campaniform sensilla grouped together and located in or near the joint areas of various parts of the body or in cuticular areas, which come into contact with moving parts. The hair sensilla, 8–75 μm long, are arranged in hair plates or in hair rows; they detect relative movement between parts of the body. Proprioceptor organs of this kind, localized in proximity to joint areas, were found on the legs and on the abdomen. Proprioceptor organs composed of hair sensilla located far from the articular areas were found on the 3rd pair of legs, the thorax, the hind wings, and the abdomen. The campaniform sensilla, which are arranged in fields and groups, in cuticular areas subject to deformations, are of 2 types: with raised caps (type I) and with flat caps (type II). Hair on a man's head is an important emblem of health, youth, and vitality. As in all areas of cosmetic surgery, the refinements of surgical technique and instrumentation have improved the results of hair transplantation. The state of the art in hair grafting today produces a result that is undetectable as being a surgical hair transplant. Many earlier techniques of plug hair transplantation are not aesthetically acceptable by today's standards. This is especially true in the face of progressive hair loss, which can unmask previously camouflaged cornrow plugs. A technique to reduce the plugs and recycle the grafts into smaller grafts is described. The recycled hair grafts can be combined with scalp lifting, scalp reductions, and occipital harvesting of grafts to improve the results of cornrow appearing hair transplants and other problems of surgical hair restoration.  相似文献

Concentrations of selenium (Se), boron (B), and germanium (Ge) were determined in scalp hair of children with Kashin-Beck disease (KBD), in healthy children in KBD-disease endemic areas, and in healthy children in non-KBD areas. Mean Se, B, and Ge concentrations were low in children with KBD; in hair of healthy children in KBD areas, Se levels were normal but B and Ge levels were lower than in KBD-free areas. The hair levels of B and Ge were unaffected by selenium supplementation. It is suggested that B and Ge deficiency may be contributing factors in the etiology of KBD.  相似文献

The prenatal morphogenesis of hair follicles depends upon a precisely regulated series of molecular genetic processes. Hormones and their receptors play prominent roles in modulating postnatal hair cycling, which recapitulates some aspects of morphogenesis. The responses to androgen are the most obvious of these. The postnatal androgen sensitivity of pilosebaceous units in different skin areas is programmed during prenatal development to permit clinical outcomes such as hirsutism and pattern baldness. Thyroid hormone, glucocorticoids, insulin-like growth factor-I, and prolactin have clinically significant effects on specific aspects of hair growth. The nuclear receptors vitamin D receptor and retinoid X receptor are essential for postnatal hair cycling. Other hormones have less clear effects on hair growth. Advances in research on the interaction of hormone target genes with the biological processes involved in hair morphogenesis and cycling can be expected to improve management of hirsutism and alopecia.  相似文献

The neurones from the wind-sensitive hairs on the locust head have been filled with cobalt chloride and intensified with silver. All the neurones project through the brain to the suboesophageal ganglion, some continue to the prothoracic ganglion and a few as far as the mesothoracic ganglion. Three different types of projection are described and a regrouping is proposed of Weis-Fogh's five hair fields into three areas. The distribution of the neurones from these areas is described in relation to other structures in the ganglion and is discussed in relation to the function of the hair fields in stability control and grooming.  相似文献

The developed method for mercury speciation analysis has been validated and used for the biomonitoring study of mercury species in human hair. Statistical evaluation proved the reliability of simplified determination of inorganic mercury (difference between total mercury and methylmercury). The results of the validation showed that the method is very well suitable for the determination of both species of mercury in hair for biomonitoring purposes. Non-exposed schoolchildren from three areas in the western and central part of the Czech Republic were chosen as the target group. Tenth of a microgram per gram of the total mercury were generally found in the analyzed hair; values higher than 1 μg g−1 were detected only exceptionally. Comparable results were obtained for two western areas and differed significantly from those for the third area located in the central part of the Czech Republic. In the areas examined, the mean methylmercury contents amounted to 23–46% of the total mercury in the hair. The results confirm an assumption that exposure to mercury does not pose a significant risk to the population in the Czech Republic.  相似文献

Versican, a proteoglycan recently implicated in hair follicle induction, has been shown to influence axon outgrowth in vitro and in vivo. We used immunohistochemistry to study the relationship between versican expression and innervation, during rat vibrissa follicle development and the adult hair cycle. During development, nerve fibres were commonly associated with areas of weak versican expression, and the path of axons appeared to be delineated by sharp boundaries of versican expression. Versican expression changed in the lower follicle dermis during the adult hair follicle cycle but remained strong around the follicle neck reflecting the constant innervation. Our observations show a correlation between versican expression and peripheral innervation indicating that versican may have a dual role in hair follicle biology.  相似文献

Hair follicles are complex organs composed of the dermal papilla (DP), dermal sheath (DS), outer root sheath (ORS), inner root sheath (IRS) and hair shaft. Development of hair follicles begins towards the end of the first trimester of pregnancy and is controlled by epidermal–mesenchymal interaction (EMI), which is a signaling cascade between epidermal and mesenchymal cell populations. Hair grows in cycles of various phases. Specifically, anagen is the growth phase, catagen is the involuting or regressing phase and telogen is the resting or quiescent phase. Alopecia is not life threatening, but alopecia often causes severe mental stress. In addition, the number of individuals afflicted by alopecia patients has been increasing steadily. Currently there are two methods employed to treat alopecia, drug or natural substance therapy and human hair transplantation. Although drug or natural substance therapy may retard the progress of alopecia or prevent future hair loss, it may also accelerate hair loss when the medication is stopped after prolonged use. Conversely, the transplantation of human hair involves taking plugs of natural hair from areas in which occipital hair is growing and transplanting them to bald areas. However, the number of hairs that can be transplanted is limited in that only three such operations can generally be performed. To overcome such problems, many researchers have attempted to revive hair follicles by culturing hair follicle cells or mesenchymal cells in vitro and then implanting them in the treatment area.  相似文献

Hair transplantation by use of micrografts (one- to two-hair follicular unit grafts) and minigrafts (three- to four-hair follicular unit grafts) used in large numbers (>1000 grafts) in a single session was initially described for the treatment of male pattern baldness. More recently, the author has found many other applications, particularly in facial and scalp reconstruction. The most common causes for aesthetic hair restoration of those areas in the author's experience include hair loss resulting from aesthetic facial rejuvenation surgery, revision of unsatisfactory results from previous hair transplantation, burn alopecia, congenital reasons, and hair loss after oncologic resections. The basic technique is described in detail, with variations given for each of the challenging anatomic areas, including the sideburns and temporal hairline, eyebrows, eyelashes, mustache, beard, and remaining scalp. Special attention is given to the direction of hair growth, hair texture, aesthetic planning, and absence of detectable scars, in order to mimic nature and to result in a minimal number of procedures. The use of micrografts and minigrafts in the aesthetic reconstruction of the face and scalp has been found to be safe and predictable, and has provided a high level of patient satisfaction.  相似文献

Differences in mineral nutrient composition of soils have been considered to affect health and population characteristics of free-ranging animals, particularly herbivores. Contents of Ca, Mg, and K in hair of female fawn white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) were measured for eight consecutive years to determine if soil and annual effects occurred in two areas of contrasting soil productivity in Illinois. Soil differences may account for some of the autumnal weight difference (7.2 kg for 4 yrs of observation) observed in fawn does from the areas. Ca, Mg, and K were assayed, because these macronutrients were known to differ in soils of the areas and were presumed to differ in forages. In 6 of the 8 yrs, at least one element was significantly different (P ≤ 0.05) between areas. Significant (P ≤ 0.05) differences for K occurred in 5 yr, for Ca in 4 yr, and for Mg in 2 yr. Ca and Mg were lower in hair in 7 yr from deer collected from the area in which extractable Ca and Mg were higher in soils; that is, hair Ca and Mg levels tended to be inversely related to levels of plant-available Ca and Mg in soil. For 7 of the 8 yr, K content was lower in hair from the area of lower soil K content. Within one area, between-year differences occurred for Ca and K and for Ca and Mg in the other area. Between-year differences in diet selection and annual climatic effects on mineral uptake of forages, among other factors, may account for some of the latter differences. Results for hair analyses suggest that macronutrient differences in Ca, Mg, and K occur in the diets of these populations and may account for some of the weight difference observed between the areas.  相似文献

Analysis of anabolic steroids in hair: Time courses in guinea pigs   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Sensitive, specific, and reproducible methods for the quantitative determination of eight anabolic steroids in guinea pig hair have been developed using LC/MS/MS and GC/MS/MS. Methyltestosterone, stanozolol, methandienone, nandrolone, trenbolone, boldenone, methenolone and DHEA were administered intraperitoneally in guinea pigs. After the first injection, black hair segments were collected on shaved areas of skin. The analysis of these segments revealed the distribution of anabolic steroids in the guinea pig hair. The major components in hair are the parent anabolic steroids. The time courses of the concentrations of the steroids in hair (except methenolone, which does not deposit in hair) demonstrated that the peak concentrations were reached on days 2-4, except stanozolol, which peaked on day 10 after administration. The concentrations in hair appeared to be related to the physicochemical properties of the drug compound and to the dosage. These studies on the distribution of drugs in the hair shaft and on the time course of their concentration changes provide information relevant to the optimal time and method of collecting hair samples. Such studies also provide basic data that will be useful in the application of hair analysis in the control of doping and in the interpretation of results.  相似文献

This cross-sectional study measured the arsenic level in scalp hair samples of children from two age groups exposed to contaminated underground water in Pakistan. The As concentrations in water and scalp hair samples were analyzed by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. The studied areas were divided into three regions based on concentration of As in water and scalp hair of children who had been exposed to different levels of As through drinking water. The average As concentrations in underground water samples of sub-districts Faiz Ganj, Thari Mirwah, and Gambat were observed to be 15.2, 28.5, and 98.3 μg/L, respectively, which were marked as less, medium, and highly contaminated areas, respectively. The proportion of the children with lower body mass index significantly increased with increasing As exposure level; the dose–response relationship was consistently observed among the subgroups. The range of As concentrations in scalp hair samples of children of age 1–5 and 6–10 years was 0.21–3.88 and 0.32–3.63 μg/g, respectively. Thus, it is likely that children in our study areas are chronically exposed to As through drinking groundwater, suggesting that there is an urgent need to take immediate solution, especially in the Gambat sub-district.  相似文献

Abstract We developed a snare for collection of black bear (Ursus americanus) hair that obtained a unique hair sample at each snare site, improved the quantity of collected hair compared to barbed-wire corrals, and was easy to deploy over a wide range of topographical features and habitat conditions. This device allowed us to implement intensive sampling methodology needed in mark-recapture experiments with minimal effort. By improving the quantity of hair collected, we also lowered the potential for bear identification errors at the lab. During 2003–2004, bears in 2 study areas triggered snares 1,104 times, which resulted in the collection of 981 hair samples. Of the samples we collected, 79% (775) produced valid genetic data. In 2003, 454 samples identified 79 genetically distinct individuals, and 321 samples identified 86 genetically distinct individuals in 2004. Analysis of capture-recapture data indicated that capture probabilities were affected by heterogeneity among individuals and behavioral responses, but showed little evidence of time effects. Consequently, we used the Pollock and Otto (1983) estimator for model Mbh to estimate abundance with reasonably good precision (CV: 12–14%). Density on the Steamboat and Toketee, Oregon, USA, study areas over the 2-year period averaged 19 bears/100 km2 and 22 bears/100 km2, respectively. Average capture and recapture probabilities over the 2 years of the study were 30% and 63%, respectively, indicating a trap-prone behavioral response. Knowledge of bear densities on the Steamboat and Toketee study areas will enable managers to set hunting quotas, advise land management agencies on habitat issues, and create a baseline database to assist in the long-term monitoring of bear trends in a changing landscape.  相似文献

Field experiments were conducted during the settling of young animals of Citellus pygmaeus in four areas 4 to 13.6 hectares in size. From 3 to 6 animals were caught in each area and labeled by administering radioactive substance (0.5 micrograms of glycine 14C or methionine 35S) and colouring hair on the head. In a day or two labeled sousliks were caught again and in 6-7 days a total catching of animals and collection of ectoparasites from their hair and burrows done. In al, 942 sousliks were caught in the experimental areas and 2624 specimens of fleas of different species and 2305 ticks of R. schulzei collected. The average number of fleas which were labeled on one little souslik for a day was 0.1 to 2.3. The number of labeled fleas in the above areas coincided with the number of fleas infected with plague in the areas of epizootia. The level of parasitic contact in settlements of little souslik cannot provide the development of plague epizootia by transmission of the agent through fleas.  相似文献

Barbershops provide areas for the growth and transfer of bacterial pathogens and thereby have an impact on public health. Barbershops are ideal places for the interactive spread of infections, including community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA). Here, the work determines the degree of bacterial contamination of hair dryers used in barbershops. The samples were collected in the city of Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on March 2019. Significant bacterial contamination was seen, with total bacterial count increasing when the hair dryers were run for 20 instead of 10 s. The study shows a high level of bacterial contamination barbershops using hair dryers, with MRSA being isolated in some. The results suggest that high quality filters should be used inside hair dryers and filters, and theses should be cleaned frequently.  相似文献

Saliva was investigated for its suitability as a biopsy tissue for the determination of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. It appears that there is a significant difference between the activity of the enzyme in patients and controls. However, some controls have very low values making discrimination between patients and controls using a qualitative method impossible.Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency is a relevant clinical problem in many rural areas in developing countries. Existing methods for determination of the deficiency in blood and hair follicles do not meet the criteria necessary for their large scale introduction in the areas of the world that are concerned by the problem. The present study shows that saliva is not a suitable alternative.Between the three biopsy tissues compared: blood, hair follicles and saliva, hair follicles remain most attractive since their isolation hardly involves the risk of infection. A simplified method for the detection of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity in hair follicles that would allow health service workers in the field to determine the carrier status of pregnant women might form the basis for a future kernicterus prevention programme.  相似文献

Intensity of hair pigmentation of dorsal scrotum, nose, cheek and forehead areas of seven mature, male white-tailed deer were determined from close-up colour slides taken once a month during a 2-year period. Blood samples and skin biopsies from forehead areas were taken at the same time as the photographs. Plasma testosterone (T) levels were measured by radioimmunoassay and T in the skin was investigated by immunohistology. Seasonal variations of hair pigmentation are most pronounced in the forehead region followed by the cheek, scrotum, and nose area. Peak blood levels of T (15.4 ng/ml) were detected in November. The highest correlation between T levels and pigmentation of the forehead area (R = 93%; R2 = 0.87), was established when pigmentation values were shifted two months ahead. Immunohistologically detectable T was localized in hair follicles, hair sheets and apocrine glands but not in the sebaceous glands. It is hypothesized that pigmentation of head regions might serve as a visual cue indicating the sexual status of an individual.  相似文献

The hair density of free-ranging Japanese monkeys (Macaca fuscata fuscata) living in three different areas was investigated. The Japanese monkeys had thicker hair than other macaques. The hair density in the Japanese monkeys varied with locality: the northern monkeys had thicker hair than the southern ones. The density did not vary markedly with age up to 3 years of age, but then decreased gradually up to adult age (≧7 years old). The remarkable growth of the trunk suggested that the total number of hairs increased with age, especially during the period as a juvenile.  相似文献
