A phylogeny of Erysiphe sect. Uncinula on Carpinus spp. was reconstructed using the 28S rDNA sequences and a combined alignment of the 28S, ITS, and IGS rDNA sequences. The analysis was supplemented with morphological data obtained from examination of voucher specimens. A sequence of Erysiphe sect. Uncinula on C. cordata formed a distinct lineage separated from sequences of other Erysiphe species on Carpinus spp., indicating a cryptic species, which is described as E. paracarpinicola. The new species is genetically as well as morphologically most similar to E. carpinicola s. str., but differs in having fewer asci per chasmothecium (mainly 3–5 vs 4–10) and shorter chasmothecial appendages. A key to species of Erysiphe sect. Uncinula on Carpinus spp. is provided.  相似文献

Two new species, Erysiphe azerbaijanica on Castanea sativa and E. linderae on Lindera praecox, both belonging to the Microsphaera lineage of the genus Erysiphe are described based on morphological and molecular data. Erysiphe azerbaijanica is distinguished from other Erysiphe species occurring on Castanea spp. by its cylindrical conidia with a length/width ratio of 2–3.6, longer conidiophore, and foot-cells. Molecular analyses indicated that this species forms a clade of its own, supporting the morphological observations. Molecular phylogenetic analyses showed that E. blasti s. lat. is divided into two genetically differentiated groups associated with different host species. Based on the sequence differences in the 28S rRNA gene and ITS region, connected with differences in the number and length of appendages, the fungus on L. praecox is described as a new species, E. linderae.  相似文献

Brasiliomyces, comprising only four species, is a unique powdery mildew genus characterized by having small, semitransparent chasmothecia with a thin, single peridium layer. Brasiliomyces malachrae, a type species, is distributed in Central and South America and the morphology of this species, especially its asexual morph, is poorly known. This study was performed to describe the sexual and asexual morphs of B. malachrae on Malvastrum coromandelianum in detail, and to clarify the phylogenetic placement of this fungus. The asexual morph of this species is characterized by having hyaline ectophytic mycelium with lobed hyphal appressoria and catenescent conidia. Molecular phylogenetic analyses based on 18S, 5.8S, and 28S rRNA gene sequences revealed that B. malachrae is a sister to the genus Erysiphe and situated at the boundary between tribes Golovinomyceteae and Erysipheae, which supports its unique phylogenetic position. The evolutionary relationships among the tribes Golovinomyceteae, Erysipheae, and Phyllactinieae are discussed on the basis of the present phylogenetic analyses.  相似文献

The genusMicrosphaera has been considered to be derived from sectionErysiphe of the genusErysiphe by a single event. Cleistothecial appendages are the most distinct difference between the two genera and have an important role for overwintering. To understand the phylogenetic relationship betweenErysiphe sectionErysiphe andMicrosphaera more precisely, phylogenetic trees were constructed using the nucleotide sequences of the rDNA ITS region from 11Erysiphe (sectionErysiphe) and 16Microsphaera taxa. The phylogenetic trees indicated the close relationship between the two genera. However, the generaErysiphe (sectionErysiphe) andMicrosphaera did not group into separate monophyletic lineages; instead, they formed several small clusters that were mixed together. This result suggests that the differentiations of the genera occurred two or more times independently. This also supports the idea that appendage morphology does not always accurately reflect the phylogeny of the powdery mildews because the morphology of appendages may evolve convergently under the selection pressure of their particular biotopes (host plants). Asexual and sexual morphs of powdery mildews on Fontanesia phillyreoides and Jasminum fruticans, two hitherto unknown host species, have recently been collected in Turkey. Analyses of morphological traits and molecular sequence data led to identifications of the causal agents of the powdery mildew diseases involved. Fontanesia phillyreoides was infected by Phyllactinia fraxini, and the powdery mildew on Jasminum fruticans can be classified as Erysiphe cf. aquilegiae. The latter host showed traces of a co-infection with a second powdery mildew (only asexual morph) belonging to the genus Phyllactinia (= Ovulariopsis) and morphologically well agreeing with P. fraxini.  相似文献

Two novel species of bambusicolous fungi in the genus Kamalomyces, collected from northern Thailand, are described and illustrated herein. Kamalomyces bambusicola and K. thailandicus spp. nov. are typical of the genus Kamalomyces (Tubeufiaceae, Tubeufiales) and are morphologically distinct from known species with respect to their size of ascomata, asci and ascospores, ascospore septation and peridium structure, including the subiculum comprising hyphae on the host surface. Morphological examination reveals that the asexual morph of K. bambusicola is associated with its sexual morph in a subiculum forming dictyochlamydosporous conidia, which are similar to the asexual morph of Chlamydotubeufia. Phylogenetic analyses of combined LSU, ITS and TEF1-α sequence data also support these two species as distinct and confirm their phylogenetic affinities within the Tubeufiaceae. In particular, Kamalomyces shares a close phylogenetic relationship to Helicoma.  相似文献

A phylogenetic analysis of the Erysiphe with uncinuloid ascoma appendages (Erysiphe section Uncinula, Erysiphales, Ascomycota) on Carpinus spp. was done using sequences of the rDNA ITS regions and the D1/D2 domains of the 28S rDNA. These results, combined with morphological data, revealed a complex consisting of several distinct taxa. These included the already described Erysiphe carpinicola on C. japonica distinguishable from the Erysiphe sp. on C. betulus and C. tschonoskii as well as the one on C. laxiflora. Thus, it was shown that Oidium carpini, described from Europe on Carpinus betulus, the powdery mildew with uncinula-like ascomata, recently found in Europe on this host, as well as an Erysiphe on C. tschonoskii in Japan, described previously as E. carpinicola, all belong to a single new species, named E. arcuata in this paper. As the powdery mildew on C. laxiflora was also distinct from other known species, it is named E. carpini-laxiflorae in this paper. The already described E. pseudocarpinicola and Erysiphe sp. on Carpinus cordata are two additional taxa, which are morphologically and genetically distinguished from the other species of Erysiphe sect. Uncinula on Carpinus spp.  相似文献

We isolated an interesting fungus from dead leaves of Magnolia liliifera collected from Chiang Mai, Thailand. The novel strain is related to Plectosphaerellaceae based on the morphology of its asexual morph and the analysis of sequence data. Phylogenetic analyses using a combined gene analysis of LSU and ITS sequence data showed that this strain is clustered in the same clade with Furcasterigmium furcatum with high statistical support. The new strains produced the asexual morph in culture which is morphologically similar to F. furcatum. Thus, we identified this strain as the sexual morph of F. furcatum. This is the first record of sexual morph for the monotypic genus Furcasterigmium and the first record of this genus on Magnolia.  相似文献

A new species of Erysiphe sect. Uncinula is described and illustrated from Patagonia, Argentina. Erysiphe patagoniaca sp. nov., found on leaves of Nothofagus × antarctica, is similar to E. nothofagi and E. kenjiana, but differs in its appendages being twisted throughout their length and the number of appendages, asci, and ascospores. The two endemic species of Erysiphe sect. Uncinula, E. magellanica and E. nothofagi, coexisted on the same leaves together with Erysiphe patagoniaca. Tubeufia was named for a sexual morph taxon. However, several asexual morph species have been accommodated in this genus as well. In our study, four new species of Tubeufia, viz. T. filiformis, T. latispora, T. laxispora and T. mackenziei, are described and illustrated. The phylogenetic placement of the new species is confirmed by analysis of combined ITS, LSU and TEF1α sequence data. A key to Tubeufia species is provided and the new species are compared with similar fungal taxa.  相似文献

We present a comprehensive phylogeny derived from nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA) for 214 samples representing 98 species and five varieties, including 44 species and five varieties native to China. Our collection of 25 species and five varieties (44 samples) covering all five sections of the genus (Comber) distributed in China also were included in the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) database. This study incorporates previous research with an emphasis on Chinese species, including the controversial subsection, Sinomartagon 5c Comber. In the phylogenetic tree obtained by maximum parsimony (PAUP) and maximum likelihood (RAxML) analyses, the samples were divided into four major groups. Our results suggest that the subsection (subsect.) 5c Comber should be classified into the true subsect. 5c and the section (sect.) Lophophorum. And the latter was divided into three subsections (subsect. Lophophorum I, subsect. Lophophorum II, and subsect. Lophophorum III). Based on molecular phylogenetic analysis and fluorescence in situ hybridization, we report that L. henryi and L. rosthornii are closely related, and we propose their classification into subsect. Leucolirion 6a. Our results support Comber’s subdivision of sect. Leucolirion, which was primarily based on bulb color. Chinese species were divided into five sections: sect. Martagon, sect. Archelirion, sect. Leucolirion, sect. Sinomartagon, and sect. Lophophorum. These findings contribute to our understanding of the phylogeny, origin, and classification of Lilium.  相似文献

A new species of Orbilia related to O. luteorubella is described mainly based on morphological characters of its asexual morph and molecular data. The sexual morph does not significantly differ from O. luteorubella, whereas the asexual morph obtained from its ascospore isolate resembles members of the non-predacious genus Dactylella, because it has fusiform phragmoconidia borne singly at the apex of conidiophores. Phylogenetic analysis showed that this strain clustered with a clade that included available strains of the O. luteorubella aggregate and was distant from all analysed Dactylella species. Within this clade, the new strain fell between species with filiform conidia and those of a Pseudotripoconidium anamorph. By combining morphological and phylogenetic analyses, we conclude that our isolate belongs to a new taxon. Pleomorphism of the new taxon is described and discussed.

大方油栝楼(T.dafangensis)与小苞组(sect. Trichosanthes)成为姊妹群,处于一个向叶苞组(sect. Foliobracteola)过渡位置,结合其形态特征,建议作为小苞组(sect. Trichosanthes)成员。  相似文献

Carthamus (Asteraceae) includes both crop (Carthamus tinctorius, safflower) and weedy species. Despite previous studies, many outstanding questions remain regarding the phylogenetic surroundings of safflower, especially in relation to weedy species. Here we investigated relationships within Carthamus using a tiered approach examining sequence and microsatellite data. First, nuclear and chloroplast sequences were analyzed from 37 accessions of 16 species. Maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian inference confirm two well supported clades, corresponding to sect. Atractlyis and sect. Carthamus, the latter of which includes safflower. Because sequence data provided limited resolution within the clades, microsatellite markers were used to investigate relationships within sect. Carthamus. Both sequence and microsatellite data reveal that most traditionally recognized species are not monophyletic. Microsatellite data indicate that Carthamus palaestinus is the closest relative of cultivated safflower.  相似文献

The Golovinomyces biocellatus complex consists of powdery mildew (Erysiphales) species restricted to hosts of the family Lamiaceae. Previous authors used minor morphological features of the sexual state and host range data to split the complex. The data, however, were not sufficient to define a convincing species concept. Our taxonomic study is based on molecular phylogenetic and asexual state morphology data. For morphological studies, mainly features of the asexual morph (conidiophores, conidia, germination patterns) were studied using light and scanning electron microscopy. Detailed line drawings of asexual state features are provided. For phylogenetic analyses, two markers (rDNA: ITS, LSU) of 64 specimens were applied. The phylogeny resulted in two major clades. Clade I consists of specimens with Lamiaceae hosts and three specimens of Verbena. Clade II consists of two sister groups, the first (IIa) with Salvia spp. and the second (IIb) with Lycopus europaeus (the type host G. biocellatus) and Glechoma. Clades I and IIb and two subclades of IIa with Salvia hosts are characterized by specific morphological traits (differences in conidiophore length, conidial shape, width, and germination patterns). Based on these data, we suggest to consider specimens of clades I (including specimens on Verbena) and IIb and the two subclades of IIa as distinct species, namely G. monardae, G. biocellatus, G. salviae, and G. neosalviae sp. nov. A key for the identification of species based on asexual state features is provided. The results are discussed with respect to host range, jumps, co-evolutionary aspects, and distribution patterns.  相似文献

A new species and a new variety of Erysiphe sect. Uncinula are described and illustrated. Erysiphe havrylenkoana is a new species found on Nothofagus alpina and N. obliqua in Argentina, and E. prunastri var. japonica is a new variety collected on Prunus maximowiczii in Japan. Erysiphe havrylenkoana differs from E. nothofagi, E. patagoniaca and E. magellanica in having unique helicoid appendages, brownish from the base to the beginning of helicoid part, spirally twisted at the center and straight or not spiral at the upper part with uncinate to circinate tip. The phylogenetic analyses of rDNA sequences clearly showed that the spiral pattern of helicoid appendages is an important morphological character to delimit species among Nothofagus powdery mildews. Erysiphe prunastri var. japonica is distinct from E. prunastri var. prunastri parasitizing hitherto Prunus species from East-Central Asia to Europe by having mainly eight asci per chasmothecium and smooth, rarely septate appendages.  相似文献

Dryopteris sect. Diclisodon is a small section of ferns with about 12 species mainly distributed in East Asia. Here, we carried out morphological and phylogenetic analyses of this section. A new species from southwest China, D. gaoligongensis, is described and illustrated. Dryopteris gaoligongensis resembles D. indonesiana and D. sparsa, but differs by having a creeping rhizome and large 4-pinnate fronds. We also show that D. glabrior Ching & Z.Y. Liu is a distinct species; however, because it is a later homonym of D. glabrior Copel., it should be renamed D. renchangiana. We conclude that a species previously known as D. nitidula, also an illegitimate homonym, should be recognized with a new name, D. sinonepalensis. We resolve the phylogenetic position of D. yoroii as sister to other sampled species of D. sect. Diclisodon. Our phylogenetic analyses confirm the distinctiveness of D. gaoligongensis, D. renchangiana, and D. sinonepalensis. A key to species of D. sect. Diclisodon in China is provided.  相似文献

Background and aims

South America and Oceania possess numerous floristic similarities, often confirmed by morphological and molecular data. The carnivorous Drosera meristocaulis (Droseraceae), endemic to the Neblina highlands of northern South America, was known to share morphological characters with the pygmy sundews of Drosera sect. Bryastrum, which are endemic to Australia and New Zealand. The inclusion of D. meristocaulis in a molecular phylogenetic analysis may clarify its systematic position and offer an opportunity to investigate character evolution in Droseraceae and phylogeographic patterns between South America and Oceania.

Methods Drosera meristocaulis

was included in a molecular phylogenetic analysis of Droseraceae, using nuclear internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and plastid rbcL and rps16 sequence data. Pollen of D. meristocaulis was studied using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy techniques, and the karyotype was inferred from root tip meristem.

Key Results

The phylogenetic inferences (maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian approaches) substantiate with high statistical support the inclusion of sect. Meristocaulis and its single species, D. meristocaulis, within the Australian Drosera clade, sister to a group comprising species of sect. Bryastrum. A chromosome number of 2n = approx. 32–36 supports the phylogenetic position within the Australian clade. The undivided styles, conspicuous large setuous stipules, a cryptocotylar (hypogaeous) germination pattern and pollen tetrads with aperture of intermediate type 7–8 are key morphological traits shared between D. meristocaulis and pygmy sundews of sect. Bryastrum from Australia and New Zealand.

Conclusions

The multidisciplinary approach adopted in this study (using morphological, palynological, cytotaxonomic and molecular phylogenetic data) enabled us to elucidate the relationships of the thus far unplaced taxon D. meristocaulis. Long-distance dispersal between southwestern Oceania and northern South America is the most likely scenario to explain the phylogeographic pattern revealed.  相似文献

A new species of euantennariaceous sooty mould, Antennatula katumotoi, is described and illustrated. It has a Hormisciomyces-like synasexual morph and inhabits twigs of the conifer Abies veitchii in Sugenuma (alt. ca. 1719 m), Katashina-mura, Tone-gun, Gunma Prefecture, central Honshu, Japan. The expected Euantennaria-like sexual morph linked to this genus was not seen in the specimen studied. This is the first proof that the genus Antennatula of the family Euantennariaceae also occurs in Japan. In addition, A. katumotoi also occurs with another metacapnodiaceous sooty mould that is composed of characteristic moniliform, barrel-shaped hyphae probably of a Capnobotrys-like asexual morph, but this is a minor inhabitant in the subicula.  相似文献
