The comparative morphological study in different Acipenseriform species demonstrates that there are only two morphological features combining the kaluga and the great sturgeon and separating them from other sturgeons, namely the shape of a mouth and the manner attaching of gill membranes to isthmus in adult specimens; whereas many morphological characters are different in these species. The relations of morphological similarity/distinction among different sturgeon species and polyphyletic origin of genus Huso revealed by both molecular and cytogenetic studies presume the restoration of initial taxonomic states for the great sturgeon and kaluga as members of the same genus Acipenser, namely A. huso and A. dauricus.  相似文献

Comparative analysis of several morphological characters is conducted in experimentally obtained hybrids between Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii and beluga A. huso, in parental species, and in gynogenetic progeny of Siberian sturgeon. The gynogenetic individuals are similar to Siberian sturgeon by all characters used for differentiation between Siberian sturgeon and beluga that supports gynogenetic origin of these individuals. Based on the data obtained on the hybrid specimens, the features of inheritance of the studied characters in sturgeons and their variation in postlarval ontogeny are discussed.  相似文献

The complete mitochondrial genome of the Sakhalin sturgeon Acipenser mikadoi and two mitogenomes of the Amur sturgeon A. schrenckii were sequenced using Roche 454 technology. The mitogenomes of the green sturgeon A. medirostris (obtained from GenBank) and the Sakhalin sturgeon differ as much as the mitogenomes of two mtDNA haplogroups (SM and BG) found in the same population of the Amur sturgeon: 0.0042 ± 0.0006 and 0.0036 ± 0.0005 substitutions per site (Tamura–Nei distance, TrN), respectively. The differences of these mitogenome pairs from mitogenomes of sister species (kaluga A. dauricus and white sturgeon A. transmontanus) are 3–6 times larger: 0.0260 ± 0.0015 and 0.0102 ± 0.0008, respectively. Thus, the differences between the mitogenomes of the Sakhalin and green sturgeons can be attributed to the variability at the intraspecific level. The time that has passed since the divergence of the Sakhalin and green sturgeons is considered to be much shorter than was previously believed: approximately 0.16 rather than 9.60 million years.  相似文献

Results are described of experimental crossing for obtaining of triple hybrids of the Russian sturgeon Acipenser gueldenstaedtii, the great sturgeon A. huso, and the starred sturgeon A. stellatus and of comparative analysis of some quantitative morphological characters in these hybrids, in the progeny of parental species and of reciprocal hybrids of starred sturgeon and great sturgeon. By most investigated characters, in triple hybrids, the states of the paternal species (Russian sturgeon) are inherited, by some other characters-of great sturgeon-the state of starred sturgeon is not inherited. Therefore, on the basis of external appearance, they may be identified as the hybrid of Russian sturgeon with great sturgeon. The observed segregation by the form of gill rakers into paternal, maternal, or intermediate variants leads to a conclusion of nonmonogenous inheritance of a wide form and a conical form of gill rakers in sturgeons. On the whole, the obtained results clearly demonstrate how, due to effects of matrocliny and partocliny, and different combination of dominant and recessive alleles of the genes determining the diagnostic characters, the hybrid individuals may acquire a different extent of similarity and differences from the parental species. The investigated triple hybrids are an interesting example of mutual leveling of divergent traits in the course of combination of different genomes within limits of one closely related Atlantic group of sturgeons. As a result, a certain averaged habitus is formed which might take place also in case of formation of polyploidy species in the process of evolution.  相似文献

We investigated the occurrence and gonadal maturity of wild sturgeons, which are rarely caught off Hokkaido island in Japan. Based on their morphological features, combined with the data on their cell DNA content, 48 sturgeons were classified into three species and one hybrid. These were the kaluga, Huso dauricus; the Japanese (Sakhalin) sturgeon, Acipenser mikadoi (historically, this species has been considered conspecific with the American green sturgeon, A. medirostris); the Amur sturgeon, A. schrenckii; and the kaluga–Amur sturgeon hybrid; with a ratio of 36:10:1:1. All of them were caught in saline waters, rather than in the fresh-water of the river, although some of them were in saline waters in the mouth of the river. Most of them were smaller than adult size; however, early juvenile fish were not detected. Histological analysis of gonadal development revealed early stages of gametogenesis in the majority of the fish of both genders. These results indicate that several sturgeon species are still occurring in the coastal waters of northern Japan, at different stages of gonadal maturity. In contrast, the lack of reports of both mature and early juvenile sturgeon capture in the Hokkaido rivers may suggest that native spawning populations of Japanese sturgeon have become extinct in Japan.  相似文献

An integrative taxonomic approach, including molecular phylogenetic reconstructions based on plastid rps4-trnF and nuclear ITS sequences, statistical analysis of morphological-anatomical characters, and classical taxonomy, indicates that the reduction of 13 Amphidium species to three in a recent morphological revision represents a case of too extensive lumping. Instead, six Amphidium species can be distinguished based on molecular and morphological data, the widespread Amphidium lapponicum, A. mougeotii, and A. tortuosum, as well as the Macaronesian endemic A. curvipes, the North American endemic A. californicum, and a newly discovered species from Central Asia (southern Siberia and northern Mongolia), A. asiaticum sp. nov. Diagnostic morphological characters for all six species are discussed. The present data confirm that species diversity of Amphidium is highest in the Holarctic, where all six species occur.  相似文献

Cytoarchitectonics of ventrothalamic area of the diencephalon of the sturgeons was studied in four species of the sturgeons, the great sturgeon Huso huso L., the Kura sturgeon Acipenser guelden-staedtii persicus n. Kurensis Belyaeff, the Caspian sturgeon, Ac. stellatus Pall., and the barbel sturgeon Ac. nudioventris Lov. using Nissl staining and Bilschowski impregnation techniques in Viktorov’s modification. The ventral thalamus of the sturgeons was found to include seven nuclei: ventromedial, ventrolateral, intermediate and ventral thalamic nuclei, thalamic eminence, and nuclei of ventral and medial optic tracts. The main attention was paid to comparative analysis of this area in the sturgeons and other actinopterygian fish. The structures common to all ray-finned fish or only to the lower teleosts and ganoids as well as characterizing only the sturgeons.  相似文献

In this study, six candidate female-specific DNA sequences of octaploid Amur sturgeon (Acipenser schrenckii) were identified using comparative genomic approaches with high-throughput sequencing data. Their specificity was confirmed by traditional PCR. Two of these sex-specific sequences were also validated as female-specific in other eight sturgeon species and two hybrid sturgeons. The identified female-specific DNA fragments suggest that the family Acipenseridae has a ZZ/ZW sex-determining system. However, one of the two DNA sequences has been deleted in some sturgeons such as Sterlet sturgeon (Acipenser ruthenus), Beluga (Huso huso) and Kaluga (H. dauricus). The difference of sex-specific sequences among sturgeons indicates that there are different sex-specific regions among species of sturgeon. This study not only provided the sex-specific DNA sequences for management, conservation and studies of sex-determination mechanisms in sturgeons, but also confirmed the capability of the workflow to identify sex-specific DNA sequences in the polyploid species with complex genomes.  相似文献

Analysis of dynamics of commercial catches and the state of populations of Russian sturgeon Acipenser gueldenstaedtii, starred sturgeon A. stellatus, and great sturgeon A. huso (Huso huso) in the Caspian Sea is presented. In the retrospective, the role of natural and artificial reproduction in formation of populations of Acipenseridae sturgeons is considered. The main principles of rational organization of practical activity for preservation and restoration of populations of Acipenseridae sturgeons are formulated.  相似文献

Overexploitation of wild populations due to the high economic value of caviar has driven sturgeons to near extinction. The high prices commanded by caviar on world markets have made it a magnet for illegal and fraudulent caviar trade, often involving low‐value farmed caviar being sold as top‐quality caviar. We present a new molecular approach for the identification of pure sturgeon species and hybrids that are among the most commercialized species in Europe and North America. Our test is based on the discovery of species‐specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the ribosomal protein S7, supplemented with the Vimentin gene and the mitochondrial D‐loop. Test validations performed in 702 specimens of target and nontarget sturgeon species demonstrated a 100% identification success for Acipenser naccarii, A. fulvescens, A. stellatus, A. sinensis and A. transmontanus. In addition to species identification, our approach allows the identification of Bester and AL hybrids, two of the most economically important hybrids in the world, with 80% and 100% success, respectively. Moreover, the approach has the potential to identify many other existing sturgeon hybrids. The development of a standardized sturgeon identification tool will directly benefit trade law enforcement, providing the tools to monitor and regulate the legal trade of caviar and protect sturgeon stocks from illicit producers and traders, hence contributing to safeguarding this group of heavily threatened species.  相似文献

Cytoarchitectonics of the external nuclei of the pretectal area was studied in four species of the sturgeons: great sturgeon, Huso huso L., Kura sturgeon, Acipenser gueldenstaedtii persicus n. Kurensis Belyaeff, stellate sturgeon, Ac. stellatus Pall. and barbel sturgeon, Ac. nudiventris Lov. Study of morphological organization of the structures was carried out using routine Nissl staining and Bilschowski impregnation technique in Viktorov’s modification. Similar structure of this pretectal area was found in the species. Five nuclear formations were described in this pretectal area: parvocellular and magnocellular external pretectal nuclei, laminiform nucleus of pretectum, dorsal pretectal nucleus, and the accessory optic nucleus. Comparison of the obtained data with the literature revealed a high level of differentiation of the area of pretectum in the sturgeons. Also, a general conclusion is given on the organization of the whole pretectal area in the sturgeons.  相似文献

Species specificity of osmotic and ion regulation in five species of acipenserids connected in varying degrees with sea conditions is investigated. The objects of study were freshwater middle-Volga sterlet Acipenser ruthenus; Siberian sturgeon A. baerii, inhabiting the Lena River and migrating to the sea near the river mouth; and the following migratory acipenserids of the Volga-Caspian Basin (regular diadromous migrations): the Russian sturgeon A. gueldenstaedtii, the great sturgeon Huso huso, and the starred sturgeon A. stellatus. The study was carried out on immature specimens (of age 2+). The level of osmolarity and concentrations of cations (Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+) were determined in blood serum, urine, and liquid from the cavity of spiral valve in fish from the fresh water (control) and after their adaptation (period of seven to ten days) to sea water with salinity 12.5–12.7 and 18‰. The increase was found in the functional activity of the mechanism of osmotic and ion homeostasis in sturgeons according to the increase of the environmental salinity of a particular species. The freshwater sterlet adapted to the sea environment as osmoconformer. The other studied species were capable of maintaining a relative stability of osmolarity and ion concentration in blood serum at different levels while adapting to the sea environment; they changed from hyperosmotic (in fresh water) to hypoosmotic type of regulation. The kidney plays a more significant role in the removal of excessive Na+ in sturgeons than in bony fish. An increase in the sodium-reabsorption and magnesium-secretion functions of the kidney as well as the sodium-absorption function of the intestines was observed in sturgeons, relative to the increase of environmental salinity.  相似文献

Worldwide, sturgeons (Acipenseridae) are among the most endangered fishes due to habitat degradation, overfishing, and inherent life history characteristics (long life span, late maturation, and infrequent spawning). As most sturgeons are anadromous, a considerable portion of their life history occurs in estuarine and marine environments where they may encounter unique threats (e.g., interception in non-target fisheries). Of the 16 marine-oriented species, 12 are designated as Critically Endangered by the IUCN, and these include species commercially harvested. We review important research tools and techniques (tagging, electronic tagging, genetics, microchemistry, observatory) and discuss the comparative utility of these techniques to investigate movements, migrations, and life-history characteristics of sturgeons. Examples are provided regarding what the applications have revealed regarding movement and migration and how this information can be used for conservation and management. Through studies that include Gulf (Acipenser oxyrinchus desotoi) and Green Sturgeon (A. medirostris), we illustrate what is known about well-studied species and then explore lesser-studied species. A more complete picture of migration is available for North American sturgeon species, while European and Asian species, which are among the most endangered sturgeons, are less understood. We put forth recommendations that encourage the support of stewardship initiatives to build awareness and provide key information for population assessment and monitoring.  相似文献

Intraspecific and interspecific nucleotide sequence variations of the mtDNA control region (D-loop) were studied with mtDNAs isolated from tissue specimens of more than 1400 sturgeons of nine species: Russian sturgeon Acipenser gueldenstaedtii, Persian sturgeon A. persicus, Siberian sturgeon A. baerii, Amur sturgeon A. schrenkii, Fringebarbel sturgeon A. nudiventris, sterlet A. ruthenus, stellate sturgeon A. stellatus, beluga Huso huso, and kaluga H. dauricus. The results were used to analyze the interspecific variation of the mtDNA control region in the given set of species and to develop a test system of ten species-specific primers, which allowed species identification from noninvasive tissue samples, spawn, and food products of eight species. The system proved suitable for multiplex PCR. A method was developed for the first time to reliably differentiate the A. baerii mitotype and the baerii-like mitotype of A. gueldenstaedtii. It was found that, although genetically separate, A. gueldenstaedtii and A. persicus are relatively young species and have common mitochondrial haplotypes, precluding their identification via mtDNA analysis alone. To develop a system for species identification of A. gueldenstaedtii and A. persicus, it is necessary to study the polymorphism of nuclear markers.  相似文献

The morphological characteristics of the pectoral fin spine were compared in three species of sturgeon, the Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus), the Russian sturgeon (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii), and the Starry sturgeon (Acipenser stellatus), all sampled from the Caspian Sea. On the basis of morphological characters of the pectoral fin spine, 62.2% of the individuals were correctly classified into separate groups. The cluster analysis also divided the three species into two major subgroups. Acipenser persicus and A. gueldenstaedtii were grouped together, suggesting a similar evolutionary basis. Significant morphological heterogeneity in pectoral fin spine characteristics was observed among the three sturgeon species. Principal component analysis identified the largest differences were in the pectoral fin spine size and the angle between distal pectoral fin spine and the horizontal line (A°). The first and second principal components (PC1 and PC2) of all observations accounted for 64.19% and 14.33% of the total variation, respectively. The combination of all analyses showed the relevance of applying pectoral fin spine shape for interspecific distinction of the three species of sturgeons.  相似文献

The bee subgenus Dialictus (Halictidae: Lasioglossum) displays a large array of behaviours including solitary behaviour, eusociality, and social parasitism. Socially parasitic Dialictus share a suite of morphological traits; these could result from shared ancestry, but given their functional significance, could also have resulted from adaptive convergence. A combined morphological and molecular phylogenetic approach was used to test for monophyly of North American socially parasitic Dialictus. Two data sets were used in the phylogenetic analyses. First, short mitochondrial DNA sequences from previous taxonomic studies of North American Dialictus, including six social parasites, were used because of the broad taxon sampling they provide. These data were analysed in combination with a set of 40 morphological characters, including a large proportion of characters associated with social parasitism. Phylogenetic analysis of the combined DNA barcode and morphology data set resolves two distinct lineages of social parasite. The second data set was based on three genes (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1, elongation factor 1α, and long‐wavelength rhodopsin), but with sparser taxon sampling, including one representative from each putative social parasite‐lineage. This also supported dual origins of social parasitism among North American Dialictus. The evolution of social parasitism is discussed. © The Willi Hennig Society 2011.  相似文献

The phylogenetic relationships of Amur sturgeon A. schrenckii Brandt, 1869 with related species have been analyzed based on sequencing of the 18S rDNA small subunit. The complete sequence (1746 bp) of 18S rDNA has been estimated in seven individual A. schrenckii clones. The results show that the rDNA mutation profile of A. schrenckii 18S is very similar to that of A. fulvescens (Genbank data). Structural-functional and phylogenetic analyses allowed us to identify a presumably expressed variant, as well as taxon-specific mutation (adenine insertion after position 658 bp), for A. schrenckii 18S rDNA. Phylogenetic reconstructions performed with various approaches (NJ, MP, ML and Bayesian) support the monophyly of the genus Acipenser and point (1), based on which, in accordance with the classification based on ecological and morphological data (Artyukhin, 2006), the Amur sturgeon is closer to the sterlet than the Baltic sturgeon and (2) to substantial differentiation between North American (A. fulvescens) and Eurasian (A. schrenckii, A. ruthenus, and A. sturio) species of Acipenseridae.  相似文献
