Morphological and physiological measurements on individual leaves of Leucaena leucocephala seedlings were used to study acclimation to neutral shading. The light-saturated photosynthetic rate (Pn max) ranged from 19.6 to 6.5 mol CO2 m–2 s–1 as photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) during growth decreased from 27 to 1.6 mol m–2 s–1. Stomatal density varied from 144 mm–2 in plants grown in high PPFD to 84 mm–2 in plants grown in low PPFD. Average maximal stomatal conductance for H2O was 1.1 in plants grown in high PPFD and 0.3 for plants grown in low PPFD. Plants grown in low PPFD had a greater total chlorophyll content than plants grown in high PPFD (7.2 vs 2.9 mg g–1 on a unit fresh weight basis, and 4.3 vs 3.7 mg dm–2 on a unit leaf area basis). Leaf area was largest when plants were grown under the intermediate PPFDs. Leaf density thickness was largest when plants were grown under the largest PPFDs. It is concluded that L. leucocephala shows extensive ability to acclimate to neutral shade, and could be considered a facultative shade plant.Abbreviations the initial slope of the photosynthesis vs PPFD curve - Pn max the light-saturated photosynthetic rate - PPFD photosynthetic photon flux density  相似文献

Net photosynthetic rate (P N) of Valeriana jatamansi plants, grown under nylon net shade or under different tree canopies, was saturated with photons at 1 000 mol m–2 s–1 photosynthetic photon-flux-density (PPFD), whereas open-grown plants were able to photosynthesise even at higher PPFD, e.g. of 2 000 mol m–2 s–1. Plants grown under net shade had higher total chlorophyll (Chl) content per unit area of leaf surface. However, Chl a/b ratio was maximal in open-grown plants, but remained unchanged in plants grown in nylon net shade and under different tree canopies. Sun-grown plants had thicker leaves (higher leaf mass per leaf area unit), higher wax content, and higher P N than shade grown plants. Thus V. jatamansi is able to acclimate to high PPFD and therefore this Himalayan species may be cultivated in open habitat to meet the ever-increasing industrial demand.  相似文献

Photosynthetic rates of green leaves (GL) and green flower petals (GFP) of the CAM plant Dendrobium cv. Burana Jade and their sensitivities to different growth irradiances were studied in shade-grown plants over a period of 4 weeks. Maximal photosynthetic O2 evolution rates and CAM acidities [dawn/dusk fluctuations in titratable acidity] were higher in leaves exposed to intermediate sunlight [a maximal photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) of 500–600 μmol m−2 s−1] than in leaves grown under full sunlight (a maximal PPFD of 1 000–1 200 μmol m−2 s−1) and shade (a maximal PPFD of 200–250 μmol m−2 s−1). However, these two parameters of GFP were highest in plants grown under the shade and lowest in full sun-grown plants. Both GL and GFP of plants exposed to full sunlight had lower predawn Fv/Fm [dark adapted ratio of variable to maximal fluorescence (the maximal photosystem 2 yield without actinic irradiation)] than those of shade-grown plants. When exposed to intermediate sunlight, however, there were no significant changes in predawn Fv/Fm in GL whereas a significant decrease in predawn Fv/Fm was found in GFP of the same plant. GFP exposed to full sunlight exhibited a greater decrease in predawn Fv/Fm compared to those exposed to intermediate sunlight. The patterns of changes in total chlorophyll (Chl) content of GL and GFP were similar to those of Fv/Fm. Although midday Fv/Fm fluctuated with prevailing irradiance, changes of midday Fv/Fm after exposure to different growth irradiances were similar to those of predawn Fv/Fm in both GL and GFP. The decreases in predawn and midday Fv/Fm were much more pronounced in GFP than in GL under full sunlight, indicating greater sensitivity in GFP to high irradiance (HI). In the laboratory, electron transport rate and photochemical and non-photochemical quenching of Chl fluorescence were also determined under different irradiances. All results indicated that GFP are more susceptible to HI than GL. Although the GFP of Dendrobium cv. Burana Jade require a lower amount of radiant energy for photosynthesis and this plant is usually grown in the shade, is not necessarily a shade plant.  相似文献

Past studies of the effects of varying levels of photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) on the morphology and physiology of the epiphytic Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) plant Tillandsia usneoides L. (Bromeliaceae) have resulted in two important findings: (1) CAM, measured as integrated nocturnal CO2 uptake or as nocturnal increases in tissue acidity, saturates at relatively low PPFD, and (2) this plant does not acclimate to different PPFD levels, these findings require substantiation using photosynthetic responses immediately attributable to different PPFD levels, e.g., O2 evolution, as opposed to the delayed, nocturnal responses (CO2 uptake and acid accumulation). In the present study, instantaneous responses of O2 evolution to PPFD level were measured using plants grown eight weeks at three PPFD (20–45, 200–350, and 750–800 mol m-2s-1) in a growth chamber, and using shoots taken from the exposed upper portions (maximum PPFD of 800 mol m-2s-1) and shaded lower portions (maximum PPFD of 140 mol m-2s-1) of plants grown ten years in a greenhouse. In addition, nocturnal increases in acidity were measured in the growth chamber plants. Regardless of the PPFD levels during growth, O2 evolution rates saturated around 500 mol m-2s-1. Furthermore, nocturnal increases in tissue acidity saturated at much lower PPFD. Thus, previous results were confirmed: photosynthesis saturated at low PPFD, and this epiphyte does not acclimate to different levels of PPFD.Abbreviations ANOVA analysis of variance - CAM Crassulacean acid metabolism - DW dry weight - PPFD photosynthetic photon flux density - SNK Student-Newman-Keuls (to whom all correspondence should be sent-present address and reprint requests);  相似文献

The adaptation of barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Akcent) plants to low (LI, 50 µmol m–2 s–1) and high (HI, 1000 µmol m–2 s–1) growth irradiances was studied using the simultaneous measurements of the photosynthetic oxygen evolution and chlorophyll a (Chl a) fluorescence at room temperature. If measured under ambient CO2 concentration, neither increase of the oxygen evolution rate (P) nor enhancement of non-radiative dissipation of the absorbed excitation energy within photosystem 2 (PS2) (determined as non-photochemical quenching of Chl a fluorescence, NPQ) were observed for HI plants compared with LI plants. Nevertheless, the HI plants exhibited a significantly higher proportion of QA in oxidised state (estimated from photochemical quenching of Chl a fluorescence, qP), by 49–102 % at irradiances above 200 µmol m–2 s–1 and an about 1.5 fold increase of irradiance-saturated PS2 electron transport rate (ETR) as compared to LI plants. At high CO2 concentration the degree of P stimulation was approximately three times higher for HI than for LI plants, and the irradiance-saturated P values at irradiances of 2 440 and 2 900 µmol m–2 s–1 were by 130 and 150 % higher for HI plants than for LI plants. We suggest that non-assimilatory electron transport dominates in the adaptation of the photosynthetic apparatus of barley grown at high irradiances under ambient CO2 rather than an increased NPQ or an enhancement of irradiance-saturated photosynthesis.  相似文献

Grain sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench. cvs. TX430 and KS82] was grown in a Haynie very fine sandy loam (coarse-silty, mixed, superactive, calcareous, mesic Mollic Udifluvents) under constant 47 % shade or full irradiance in a greenhouse under two watering regimes to see the combined and individual effects of low irradiance (LI) and low water (LW) on the sorghum genotypes. Under the high-irradiance (HI) and high-water (HW) treatment (control) and the LI-HW treatment, TX430 grew taller than KS82. Both LI and LW reduced several times the fresh and dry masses. Under the control conditions, TX430 reached its maximum net photosynthetic rate (P Nmax) of 28.93 mol m–2 s–1 at a photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) of 1 707 mol m–2 s–1, and KS82 reached its P Nmax of 28.32 mol m–2 s–1 at a PPFD of 2 973 mol m–2 s–1. The fact that TX430 had P Nmax under a lower PPFD than KS82 may relate to its taller growth under LI conditions. Hence genotypes of sorghum might be selected for low irradiance using curves relating P N to PPFD.  相似文献

Photosynthetic induction responses to a sudden increase in photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) from lower background PPFD (0, 25, 50, and 100 mol m–2 s–1) to 1 000 mol m–2 s–1 were measured in leaves of Fagus crenata, Acer rufinerve Siebold & Zucc., and Viburnum furcatum growing in a gap and understory of a F. crenata forest in the Naeba mountains. In the gap, A. rufinerve exhibited more than 1.2-fold higher maximum net photosynthetic rate (P Nmax) than F. crenata and V. furcatum. Meanwhile, in the understory F. crenata exhibited the highest P Nmax among the three species. The photosynthetic induction period required to reach P Nmax was 3–41 min. The photosynthetic responses to increase in PPFD depended on the background PPFD before increase in PPFD. The induction period required to reach P Nmax was 2.5–6.5-fold longer when PPFD increased from darkness than when PPFD increased from 100 mol m–2 s–1. The induction period was correlated with initial P N and stomatal conductance (g s) relative to maximum values before increase in PPFD. The relationship was similar between the gap and the understory. As the background PPFD increased, the initial P N and g s increased, indicating that the degrees of biochemical and stomata limitations to dynamic photosynthetic performance decreased. Therefore, photosynthetic induction responses to increase in PPFD became faster with the increasing background PPFD. The differences in time required to reach induction between species, as well as between gap and understory, were mainly due to the varying of relative initial induction states in P N and g s at the same background PPFD.  相似文献

Relationship of leaf anatomy with photosynthetic acclimation of Valeriana jatamansi was studied under full irradiance [FI, 1 600 mol(PPFD) m–2 s–1] and net-shade [NS, 650 mol(PPFD) m–2 s–1]. FI plants had thicker leaves with higher respiration rate (R D), nitrogen content per unit leaf area, chlorophyll a/b ratio, high leaf mass per leaf area unit (LMA), and surface area of mesophyll cell (S mes) and chloroplasts (S c) facing intercellular space than NS plants. The difference between leaf thickness of FI and NS leaves was about 28 % but difference in photon-saturated rate of photosynthesis per unit leaf area (P Nmax) was 50 %. This indicates that P Nmax can increase to a larger extent than the leaf thickness with increasing irradiance in V. jatamansi. Anatomical studies showed that the mesophyll cells of FI plants had no open spaces along the mesophyll cell walls (higher S c), but in NS plants wide open spaces along the mesophyll cell wall (lower S c) were found. Positive correlation between S c and P Nmax explained the higher P Nmax in FI plants. Increase in mesophyll thickness increased the availability of space along the mesophyll cell wall for chloroplasts (increased S c) and hence P Nmax was higher in FI plants. Thus this Himalayan species can acclimate to full sunlight by altering leaf anatomy and therefore may be cultivated in open fields.  相似文献

The rooting of shoots of micropropagated Rosa hybrida cv. Madame Delbard was conducted on MS medium with 30 kg m–3 sucrose or on hydroponic medium (containing less mineral salts), under higher photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) (100 in comparison with 45 µmol m–2 s–1) and flushed by ambient air [AC, 340 µmol(CO2) mol–1] or by CO2-enriched air (EC, 2 500 µmol mol–1) and lower relative humidity (80–90 % vs. 96–99 %). This cultivation led to plantlets with longer roots and adventitious root formation. Net photosynthetic rate and ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RuBPCO) activities, RuBPCO/phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase activities ratio, and starch accumulation increased under these conditions. After 14 d, plantlets had functional stomata and could be acclimated on open benches without gradual decrease in relative humidity. The percentage of survival was higher when the rooting took place in EC than in AC. However, the advantage acquired during rooting phase by plantlets cultured in liquid medium was not maintained after 4 weeks of acclimatisation.  相似文献

Two clones of Hevea brasiliensis (RRII 105 and PB 235) were grown for one year in two distinct agroclimatic locations (warmer and colder, W and C) in peninsular India. We simultaneously measured gas exchange and chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence on fully mature intact leaves at different photosynthetic photon flux densities (PPFDs) and ambient CO2 concentrations (C a) and at constant ambient O2 concentration (21 %). Net photosynthetic rate (P N), apparent quantum yield for CO2 assimilation (Φc), in vivo carboxylation efficiency (CE), and photosystem 2 quantum yield (ΦPS2) were low in plants grown in C climate and these reductions were more predominant in RRII 105 than in PB 235 which was also reflected in their growth. We estimated in these clones the partitioning of photosynthetic electrons between CO2 reduction (JA) and processes other than CO2 reduction (J*) at low and high PPFDs and C a. At high C a (700 µmol mol−1) most of the photosynthetic electrons were used for CO2 assimilation and negligible amount went for other processes when PPFD was low (200–300 µmol m−2 s−1) both in the C and W climates. But at high PPFD (900-1 100 µmol m−2 s−1), J* was appreciably high even at a high C a. Hence at normal ambient C a and high irradiance, electrons can be generated in the photosynthetic apparatus far in excess of what can be safely utilised for photosynthetic CO2 reduction. However, at high C a there was increased diversion of electrons to photosynthetic CO2 reduction which resulted in improved photosynthetic parameters even in plants grown in C climate.  相似文献

Most models of carbon gain as a function of photosynthetic irradiance assume an instantaneous response to increases and decreases in irradiance. High- and low-light-grown plants differ, however, in the time required to adjust to increases and decreases in irradiance. In this study the response to a series of increases and decreases in irradiance was observed in Chrysanthemum × morifolium Ramat. “Fiesta” and compared with calculated values assuming an instantaneous response. There were significant differences between high- and low-light-grown plants in their photosynthetic response to four sequential photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) cycles consisting of 5-minute exposures to 200 and 400 micromoles per square meter per second (μmol m−2s−1). The CO2 assimilation rate of high-light-grown plants at the cycle peak increased throughout the PPFD sequence, but the rate of increase was similar to the increase in CO2 assimilation rate observed under continuous high-light conditions. Low-light leaves showed more variability in their response to light cycles with no significant increase in CO2 assimilation rate at the cycle peak during sequential cycles. Carbon gain and deviations from actual values (percentage carbon gain over- or underestimation) based on assumptions of instantaneous response were compared under continuous and cyclic light conditions. The percentage carbon gain overestimation depended on the PPFD step size and growth light level of the leaf. When leaves were exposed to a large PPFD increase, the carbon gain was overestimated by 16 to 26%. The photosynthetic response to 100 μmol m−2 s−1 PPFD increases and decreases was rapid, and the small overestimation of the predicted carbon gain, observed during photosynthetic induction, was almost entirely negated by the carbon gain underestimation observed after a decrease. If the PPFD cycle was 200 or 400 μmol m−2 s−1, high- and low-light leaves showed a carbon gain overestimation of 25% that was not negated by the underestimation observed after a light decrease. When leaves were exposed to sequential PPFD cycles (200-400 μmol m−2 s−1), carbon gain did not differ from leaves exposed to a single PPFD cycle of identical irradiance integral that had the same step size (200-400-200 μmol m−2 s−1) or mean irradiance (200-300-200 μmol m−2 s−1).  相似文献

The responses to irradiance of photosynthetic CO2 assimilation and photosystem 2 (PS2) electron transport were simultaneously studied by gas exchange and chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence measurement in two-year-old apple tree leaves (Malus pumila Mill. cv. Tengmu No.1/Malus hupehensis Rehd). Net photosynthetic rate (P N) was saturated at photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) 600-1 100 (mol m-2 s-1, while the PS2 non-cyclic electron transport (P-rate) showed a maximum at PPFD 800 mol m-2 s-1. With PPFD increasing, either leaf potential photosynthetic CO2 assimilation activity (Fd/Fs) and PS2 maximal photochemical activity (Fv/Fm) decreased or the ratio of the inactive PS2 reaction centres (RC) [(Fi – Fo)/(Fm – Fo)] and the slow relaxing non-photochemical Chl fluorescence quenching (qs) increased from PPFD 1 200 mol m-2 s-1, but cyclic electron transport around photosystem 1 (RFp), irradiance induced PS2 RC closure [(Fs – Fo)/Fm – Fo)], and the fast and medium relaxing non-photochemical Chl fluorescence quenching (qf and qm) increased remarkably from PPFD 900 (mol m-2 s-1. Hence leaf photosynthesis of young apple leaves saturated at PPFD 800 mol m-2 s-1 and photoinhibition occurred above PPFD 900 mol m-2 s-1. During the photoinhibition at different irradiances, young apple tree leaves could dissipate excess photons mainly by energy quenching and state transition mechanisms at PPFD 900-1 100 mol m-2 s-1, but photosynthetic apparatus damage was unavoidable from PPFD 1 200 mol m-2 s-1. We propose that Chl fluorescence parameter P-rate is superior to the gas exchange parameter P N and the Chl fluorescence parameter Fv/Fm as a definition of saturation irradiance and photoinhibition of plant leaves.  相似文献

We tested the effect of growing conditions during micropropagation on the fast kinetics of chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis plantlets during a 4-week acclimation to ex vitro. We studied whether photoautotrophic growing in vitro produced plantlets with less photoinhibition impairment during acclimation. Of the growing conditions stimulating photoautotrophy in vitro, only loose tube caps had a positive effect, whereas low sucrose or sucrose-free content in the medium and high PPFD showed a negative effect. Thus, plantlets cultured with 3 % (m/v) of sucrose were subsequently less photoinhibited throughout acclimation than those cultured with low sucrose (0.5 %) or sucrose-free media. Moreover, at the end of acclimation the former plantlets showed Fv/Fm and Fv/F0 ratios typical of unstressed ex vitro plants as well as a higher Chl content and ratio of Chls to carotenoids. Plantlets cultured at a photosynthetic photon fluence density (PPFD) of 50 µmol m–2 s–1 also showed a better performance at the end of acclimation than those cultured at a higher (110 µmol m–2 s–1) PPFD. Thus except in the case of loose-tube closure, gardenia plantlets cultured in vitro under conventional sucrose concentration and PPFD are the least photoinhibited during acclimation. Nevertheless, significant interactions between the in vitro growing factors were observed at the end of acclimation.  相似文献

African violet (Saintpaulia ionantha H. Wendl) is one of the most easily and commonly tissue-cultured ornamental plants. Despite this, there are limited reports on photosynthetic capacity and its impact on the plant quality during acclimatization. Various growth, photosynthetic and biochemical parameters and activities of antioxidant enzymes and dehydrins of micropropagated plants were assessed under three light intensities (35, 70, and 100 µmol m?2 s?1 photosynthetic photon flux density – PPFD). Fresh and dry plant biomass, plant height, and leaf area were optimal with high irradiance (70–100 µmol m?2 s?1 PPFD). Chlorophyll and carotenoid contents and net photosynthesis were optimal in plants grown under 70 µmol m?2 s?1 PPFD. Stomatal resistance, malondialdehyde content, and Fv/Fm values were highest at low light irradiance (35 µmol m?2 s?1 PPFD). The activities of three antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase, increased as light irradiance increased, signaling that high light irradiance was an abiotic stress. The accumulation of 55, 33, and 25 kDa dehydrins was observed with all light treatments although the expression levels were highest at 35 µmol m?2 s?1 PPFD. Irradiance at 70 µmol m?2 s?1 PPFD was suitable for the acclimatization of African violet plants. Both low and high irradiance levels (35 and 100 µmol m?2 s?1 PPFD) induced the accumulation of antioxidants and dehydrins in plants which reveals enhanced stress levels and measures to counter it.  相似文献

Gas exchange and chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence were measured on young mature leaves of rose plants (Rosa hybrida cvs. First Red and Twingo) grown in two near-to-tight greenhouses, one under control ambient CO2 concentration, AC (355 µmol mol–1) and one under CO2 enrichment, EC (700 µmol mol–1), during four flushes from late June to early November. Supply of water and mineral elements was non-limiting while temperature was allowed to rise freely during daytime. Leaf diffusive conductance was not significantly reduced at EC but net photosynthetic rate increased by more than 100 %. Although the concentration of total non-structural saccharides was substantially higher in the leaves from the greenhouse with EC, PS2 (quantum efficiency of radiation use) around noon was not significantly reduced at EC indicating that there was no down-regulation of electron transport. Moreover, CO2 enrichment did not cause any increase in the risk of photo-damage, as estimated by the 1 – qP parameter. Non-photochemical quenching was even higher in the greenhouse with EC during the two summer flushes, when temperature and photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) were the highest. Hence rose photosynthesis benefits strongly from high concentrations of atmospheric CO2 at both high and moderate temperatures and PPFD.  相似文献

The light-dependent modulation of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) activity was studied in two species: Phaseolus vulgaris L., which has high levels of the inhibitor of Rubisco activity, carboxyarabinitol 1-phosphate (CA1P), in the dark, and Chenopodium album L., which has little CA1P. In both species, the ratio of initial to fully-activated Rubisco activity declined by 40–50% within 60 min of a reduction in light from high a photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD; >700 mol · m–2 · s–1) to a low PPFD (65 ± 15 mol · m–2 · s–1) or to darkness, indicating that decarbamylation of Rubisco is substantially involved in the initial regulatory response of Rubisco to a reduction in PPFD, even in species with potentially extensive CA1P inhibition. Total Rubisco activity was unaffected by PPFD in C. album, and prolonged exposure (2–6 h) to low light or darkness was accompanied by a slow decline in the activity ratio of this species. This indicates that the carbamylation state of Rubisco from C. album gradually declines for hours after the large initial drop in the first 60 min following light reduction. In P. vulgaris, the total activity of Rubisco declined by 10–30% within 1 h after a reduction in PPFD to below 100 mol · m–2 · s–1, indicating CA1P-binding contributes significantly to the reduction of Rubisco capacity during this period, but to a lesser extent than decarbamylation. With continued exposure of P. vulgaris leaves to very low PPFDs (< 30 mol · m–2 · s–1), the total activity of Rubisco declined steadily so that after 6–6.5 h of exposure to very low light or darkness, it was only 10–20% of the high-light value. These results indicate that while decarbamylation is more prominent in the initial regulatory response of Rubisco to a reduction in PPFD in P. vulgaris, binding of CA1P increases over time and after a few hours dominates the regulation of Rubisco activity in darkness and at very low PPFDs.Abbreviations CA1P 2-carboxyarabinitol 1-phosphate - CABP 2-carboxyarabinitol 1,5-bisphosphate - kcat substrate-saturated turnover rate of fully carbamylated enzyme - PPFD photosynthetically active photon flux density (400–700 nm) - Rubisco ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase - RuBP ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate  相似文献

Primula nutans Georgi is widely distributed in hummock-and-hollow wetlands on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. To assess the ecophysiology of this species in responding to microenvironments, we examined the photosynthetic characteristics and individual carbon gain of plants growing in different microsites from a hummock-and-hollow wetland on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and under laboratory conditions. Plants from wetland hummock microsites showed significantly higher light-saturated photosynthetic CO2 uptake (A max) than those from microsites in hollows at a controlled temperature of 15°C in leaf chamber. Leaf dark respiration rate (R) was only significantly higher in plants from hummocks than hollows at the measuring temperature of 35°C. Optimum temperature for A max was 15°C for all plants in the field despite different microsites. In plants growing under laboratory conditions differing in light and temperature, both A max and R were significantly higher under higher growth light (photosynthetic photon flux density, PPFD: 800 or 400 μmol m−2 s−1) than low light of 90 μmol m−2 s−1. No statistically significant differences in A max and R existed in plants differing in growing temperatures. Estimates derived from the photosynthetic parameters of field plants, and microsite environmental measures including PPFD, air temperature and soil temperature showed that the optimum mean daily temperature for net daily carbon gain was around 10°C and the net daily carbon gain was largely limited under lower daily total PPFD. These results suggest that the differences in A max and R in P. nutans are strongly affected by growing light regimes but not by temperature regimes. Three Bromeliaceae species of the medium Orinoco basin, Venezuela, were compared in their light-use characteristics. The bromeliads studied were two species of pineapple, i.e. the wild species Ananas ananassoides originating from the floor of covered moist forest, and the primitive cultivar Panare of Ananas comosus mostly cultivated in semi-shaded palm swamps, and Pitcairnia pruinosa, a species abundant in highly sun exposed sites on rock outcrops. Ananas species are Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) plants, P. pruinosa is C3 plant. Plants were grown at low daily irradiance (LL = 1.3 mol m–2 d–1 corresponding to an incident irradiance of 30 mol m–2 s–1) and at high irradiance (HL = 14.7 mol m–2 d–1 or 340 mol m–2 s–1), and CO2 and H2O-vapour gas exchange and photochemical (qP) and non-photochemical quenching (qNP) of chlorophyll a fluorescence of photosystem 2 (PS2) were measured after transfer to LL, medium irradiance (ML = 4.1 mol m–2 d–1 or 95 mol m–2 s–1) and HL. All plants showed flexible light-use, and qP was kept high under all conditions. LL-grown plants of Ananas showed particularly high rates of CAM-photosynthesis when transferred to HL and were not photoinhibited.  相似文献

Interspecific ecophysiological differences in response to different light environments are important to consider in regeneration behavior and forest dynamics. The diurnal changes in leaf gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorescence of two dipterocarps, Shorea leprosula (a high light-requiring) and Neobalanocarpus heimii (a low light-requiring), and a pioneer tree species (Macaranga gigantea) growing in open and gap sites were examined. In the open site, the maximum net photosynthetic rate (Pn), photosystem II (PSII) quantum yield (; F/Fm), and relative electron transport rate (r-ETR) through PSII at a given photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) was higher in S. leprosula and M. gigantea than in N. heimii, while non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) at a given PPFD was higher in N. heimii. The maximum values of net photosynthetic rate (Pn) in M. gigantea and S. leprosula was higher in the open site (8–11 mol m–2 s–1) than in the gap site (5 mol m–2 s–1), whereas that in N. heimii was lower in the open site (2 mol m–2 s–1) than in the gap site (4 mol m–2 s–1), indicating that N. heimii was less favorable to the open site. These data provide evidence to support the hypothesis that ecophysiological characteristics link with plants regeneration behavior and successional status. Although Pn and stomatal conductance decreased at midday in M. gigantea and S. leprosula in the open site, both r-ETR and leaf temperature remained unchanged. This indicates that stomatal closure rather than reduced photochemical capacity limited Pn in the daytime. Conversely, there was reduced r-ETR under high PPFD conditions in N. heimii in the open site, indicating reduced photochemical capacity. In the gap site, Pn increased in all leaves in the morning before exposure to direct sunlight, suggesting a relatively high use of diffuse light in the morning.  相似文献

Diurnal changes of photosynthesis in the leaves of grapevine (Vitis vinifera × V. labrusca) cultivars Campbell Early and Kyoho grown in the field were compared with respect to gas exchanges and actual quantum yield of photosystem 2 (ΦPS2) in late May. Net photosynthetic rate (PN) of the two cultivars rapidly increased in the morning, saturated at photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) from 1200 to 1500 μmol m−2 s−1 between 10:00 and 12:00 and slowly decreased after midday. Maximum PN was 13.7 and 12.5 μmol m−2 s−1 in Campbell Early and Kyoho, respectively. The stomatal conductance (gs) and transpiration rate changed in parallel with PN, indicating that PN was greatly affected by gs. However, the decrease in PN after midday under saturating PPFD was also associated with the observed depression of ΦPS2 at high PPFD. The substantial increase in the leaf to air vapour pressure deficit after midday might also contribute to decline of gs and PN.  相似文献
