The Ganitrus group of Elaeocarpus L. (incl. Elaeocarpus Sect. Ptilanthus Schltr.) as found in Malesia is examined and some understanding reached. The group is more complex and speciose in eastern Malesia, especially in Papuasia (with the Philippines, Sulawesi and Maluku somewhat less rich) than in western and central Malesia. E. angustifolius Blume (syn. E. ganitrus & E. sphaericus auctt. mult.) — the source of the ornamental beads known as rudraksha of eastern commerce, from which malas or rosaries are made — is considered to be very variable in Malesia and probably varies further in the extremes of its range; outside Malesia the Ganitrus group is represented by ‘E. angustifolius s.l.’ only. The following species are recognised: E. altisectus Schltr. with a new subsp. carrii Coode from New Guinea; E. angustifolius Blume; E. avium Coode sp. nov. from New Guinea; E. buderi Coode; E. dolichostylus Schltr. with E. chloranthus treated as var. chloranthus (A. C. Sm.) Coode from New Guinea, with a new var. elliptifolius Coode from the Talaud/Sangihe Is. and a new var. hentyi Coode (replacing and re-interpreting subsp. collinus Coode) from New Guinea; E. fulvus Elmer; E. kaniensis Schltr.; E. ornatus Coode sp. nov. from New Guinea; E. osiae Coode sp. nov. from Bougainville I.; E. ptilanthus Schltr.; E. ramiflorus Merr. and E. trichopetalus Merr. & Quisumb. — a total of 12 species although the last two are perhaps not truly distinct from E. angustifolius. The stone sculpturing is discussed and some useful characters revealed. Attention is drawn to a collection from mid-altitude in Papua New Guinea, inadequately known but probably a new species in this group.  相似文献

A survey of the freshwater algal flora of the Primorsky Region, Russian Far East, is presented. During more than 70 years of investigations 1659 species (including varieties and forms 2276 taxa) belonging to 346 genera of different groups of algae have been recorded from this territory. The Primorsky Region is rich in habitats attractive to algae-rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and ponds. The details of the distribution of algae in different types of waterbodies have been examined. The algal flora of the region is comparable to the areas, and its taxonomical structure is typical for Eurasia. From this territory some new species and varieties have been described — Achnanthes chankensis, Cymbella ventricosa var. hankensis, Surirella alisoviana, and others. The flora includes some rare species — Fragilaria magocsyi, Perone dimorpha, and Heterothrix monochloron, and some endemics of Asia — Navicula scutelloides var. baicalensis, N. globulifera var. nipponica, Gomphonema sphaerophorum, and Surirella tientsinensis.  相似文献

Purpose of the present study was to evaluate alkaloid profile of the aerial parts of Lupinus angustifolius growing in Turkey by capillary gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Fifteen alkaloids were identified by capillary GC-MS. 13α-Hydroxylupanine (50.78%) and lupanine (23.55%) were determined as the main alkaloids in the aerial parts of L. angustifolius. Ammodendrine, isoangustifoline, tetrahydrorhombifoline, angustifoline, α-isolupanine, 5,6-dehydrolupanine, 11,12-dehydrolupanine, 13α-acetoxylupanine, 13α-isovaleroyloxylupanine, 13α-valeroyloxylupanine, 13α-tigloyloxylupanine, 13α-cis-cinnamoyloxylupanine and 13α-cis-cinnamoyloxy-17-oxolupanine were identified as the minor alkaloids of the plant. Furthermore, antibacterial and antifungal activities of L. angustifolius alkaloid extract were tested against standard strains of the following bacteria; Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus as well as the fungi; Candida albicans and C. krusei. The alkaloid extract showed significant activity on B. subtilis, S. aureus and P. aeruginosa while it was weakly active on E. coli. On the other hand, the extract possessed moderate activity against C. albicans and C. krusei.  相似文献

Reproduction, development and morphological variation of the marine green algaCaulerpa racemosa var.peltata from the southern part of Japan were studied in culture in the laboratory. Anisogamous biflagellate male and female gametes were produced monoeciously and copulated with each other. Settled zygotes became spherical and increased in volume. After five weeks, they formed two germ tubes which extended in opposite directions. Both germ tubes became elongated and branched, resulting in the formation of creeping, filamentous, protonema-like plants. These plants formed primary shoots which differentiated into creeping rhizomes and upright axes. Each upright axis successively formed ramuli and developed into an assimilator. The morphology of assimilators, i.e., shape and arrangement of ramuli, varied with culture coditions. The effects of temperature and light intensity on the formation of assimilators were investigated with 25 combinations of 5 temperatures (20.0–30.0C) and 5 light intensities (0.5–8.0 klux). The morphological plasticity of this alga is identical to that ofCaulerpa racemosa var.laetevirens, which was previously described by the present authors. Thus, apparently, the plasticity of this taxon is correlated with environmental factors. It appears, moreover, thatC. racemosa var.peltata andC. racemosa var.laetevirens are ecophenes (ecads) of a single species.  相似文献

Reexamination ofXanthoria persica, X. polycarpoides, X. lobulata gave evidence, that the thalli of these species are devoid of a lower cortex and rhizinae. Therefore, they do not fit the definition of the genusXanthoria and are transferred toCaloplaca (under the new sectionXanthoriella) asCaloplaca persica, C. polycarpoides, andC. boulyi, respectively. — Details on development, anatomical structure, ecology and distribution are presented.

Sporulation in Bacillus megaterium var phosphaticum (PB — 1) was induced using modified nutrient media. This modified medium induced sporulation within 36 h. After spore induction the spores were kept under refrigerated (5°C) and room temperature (32°C) for five months and survival of spores was studied at 15 days intervals by plating them in nutrient agar medium. It was observed that there was not much variation in the storage temperature (5°C & 32°C). The spore cells of Bacillus megaterium var phosphaticum (PB — 1) were observed up to five months of storage under refrigerated (5°C) and room temperature (32°C). Regeneration of spore cells into vegetative cells was studied in tap water, rice gruel, nutrient broth, sterile lignite and sterile water at different concentrations of spore inoculum. The multiplication of sporulated Bacillus megaterium var phosphaticum culture was fast and reached its maximum (29.5 × 108 cfu ml−1) in nutrient broth containing 5 per cent inoculum level.  相似文献

The effect of iron supply on the growth and nodulation ofLupinus angustifolius L. (Gungurru),Lupinus luteus L. (R-1171) andLupinus pilosus Murr. (P20957) was studied in acid solutions. Plants of the three species were grown together in the same solution and inoculated withBradyrhizobium (Lupinus) WU 425. Plants were then grown with or without applied NH4NO3. The lupin species differed greatly in their sensitivity to low iron concentrations in solution withL. pilosus being most tolerant andL. luteus most sensitive.L. pilosus had the highest iron concentration in tissues and had a higher ratio of iron concentration in the youngest fully expanded leaf blades (YEB) to that in roots than the other two species.L. luteus had higher iron concentrations in roots but lower iron concentration in YEB and shoots than didL. angustifolius. The requirements of internal iron for the maximal chlorophyll synthesis in YEB were 65 μg g-1 forL. angustifolius andL. luteus, and 52 μg g-1 forL. pilosus. In contrast to effects on growth, the three species had similar external iron requirements for nodule formation in roots and for maximal nitrogen concentrations in shoots. The results indicate that iron tolerant lupin species require lower internal and external iron supply and have a greater ability than sensitive species to translocate iron from roots to shoots.  相似文献

The invasion behavior of two climax species,Machilus thunbergii Sieb. et Zucc. andCastanopsis cuspidata (Thunb.) Schottky var.sieboldii (Makino) Nakai, was studied on the 1874 and 1962 lava flows on Miyakejima, Japan. On the 1962 lava, zoochorousM. thunbergii appeared almost only under crowns of pioneeringAlnus sieboldiana Matsum, while bolochorousC. cuspidata var.sieboldii occurred only along the borders of the lava. The three species,A. sieboldiana, M. thunbergii andC. cuspidata var.sieboldii, corresponded, in order, to the temporal sequence of invasion in the boundary forest and the spatial sequence from margin to center on the 1962 lava. Seed or fruit dispersion is important in primary succession in the case of large disturbances.  相似文献

Food limitation was tested in the laboratory by individual growth and reproduction of two cladoceran species, Ceriodaphnia richardi and Daphnia gessneri, from the shallow tropical Brazilian Lake Monte Alegre. The cladocerans were fed cultivated green alga Scenedesmus spinosus in concentrations of 0.20, 0.10, 0.05, and 0.025 mg C l−1. Higher biomass and growth rates occurred in the two highest-food concentrations; the two lowest ones negatively affected clutch size and first reproduction. The threshold food concentration is lower than 0.025 mg C l−1 and the incipient limiting level is a value between 0.10 and 0.20 mg C l−1. The largest species, D. gessneri, was more sensitive to low food concentrations. The effects of low and high temperatures (19 and 27°C) were evaluated by life table experiments with three cladocerans from the lake—Daphnia ambigua, D. gessneri, and Moina micrura—with no food limitation (1 mg C l−1 of S. spinosus). Higher population growth rates for the three species were found at 27°C; better performance in most life table parameters was observed for the former two species at the highest temperature, D. gessneri being the most sensitive to the lowest temperature. There are indications that temperature is an important abiotic factor that constrains populations of cladocerans for a short period in winter in the lake, when temperature decreases to 18–19°C. However, its influence cannot be separated from a biotic factor such as food, whose effect is stronger in the cool season, when concentrations are lower and contribution of inedible algae is relatively higher.  相似文献

The banded karyotypes of 34 monkeys of known geographic origin and belonging to the Cercopithecus aethiops group of species (C. aethiops, C. pygerythrus, C. cynosurus, C. sabaeus) show that chromosome evolution in this group is highly conservative. All species have 2n =60 chromosomes with very similar chromosome banding. However, differences were found both within and between species. A polymorphism of the NOR area of the “marked” chromosome pairs was found in all taxa (9 of 34 animals). All individuals referred to C. sabaeus, from both West Africa and the Barbados, are characterized by having highly positive G- and C- banded terminal sequences on chromosomes 7,10,12, and 14. Outgroup comparisons with other primates and a parsimony analysis suggest that these terminal bands are derived and are probably good taxonomic and phylogenetic indicators. Moreover, chromosome 18 is variable both between and within species in G banding and in short-arm length. The existence of within-species variation in karyotypes suggests that karyological comparisons must be based on adequate samples that include specimens coming from all the major geographic populations of the species concerned.  相似文献

In vitro propagation of three rare, endangered and endemic rhododendron species—Rhododendron dalhousiae var. rhabdotum, R. elliottii, and R. johnstoneanum—was attained. Nodal explants were used for multiple shoot induction studies. Three cytokinins (isopentenyladenine, benzyladenine, and kinetin) were evaluated in all three species. Isopentenyladenine performed better in all three species, especially at the concentration of 39.36 μM. Testing of combinations of growth regulators revealed that explants grown on Anderson medium supplemented with 39.36 μM isopentenyladenine and 4.90 μM indole butyric acid gave optimum results with 100% multiple shoot induction, 18 shoots per explant, and shoot length of 2.07 cm with R. johnstoneanum. Indole butyric acid was found to be the best auxin for root formation. Around 60% of the in vitro-raised plants of R. elliottii, R. johnstoneanum, and R. dalhousiae var. rhabdotum were able to establish ex vitro.  相似文献

Rhizodegradation is a technique involving plants that offers interesting potential to enhance biodegradation of persistent organic pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Nevertheless, the behaviour of PAHs in plant rhizosphere, including micro-organisms and the physico-chemical soil properties, still needs to be clarified. The present work proposes to study the toxicity and the dissipation of phenanthrene in three artificially contaminated soils (1 g kg-1 DW). Experiments were carried out after 2 months of soil aging. They consisted in using different systems with two plant species (Ryegrass—Lolium perenne L. var. Prana and red clover—Trifolium pratense L. var. fourragère Caillard), three kinds of soils (a silty-clay-loam soil “La Bouzule”, a coarse sandy-loam soil “Chenevières” and a fine sandy-loam soil “Maconcourt”). Phenanthrene was quantified by HPLC in the beginning (T 0) and the end of the experiments (30 days). Plant biomass, microbial communities including mycorrhizal fungi, Rhizobium and PAH degraders were also recorded. Generally phenanthrene contamination did not affect plant biomass. Only the red clover biomass was enhanced in Chenevières and La Bouzule polluted soils. A stimulation of Rhizobium red clover colonisation was quantified in spiked soils whereas a drastic negative phenanthrene effect on the mycorrhization of ryegrass and red clover was recorded. The number of PAH degraders was stimulated by the presence of phenanthrene in all tested soils. Both in ryegrass and red clover planted soils, the highest phenanthrene dissipation due to the rhizosphere was measured in La Bouzule soils. On the contrary, in non-planted soils, La Bouzule soils had also the lowest pollutant dissipation. Thus, in rhizospheric and non-rhizospheric soils the phenanthrene dissipation was found to depend on soil clay content.  相似文献

The use of three freshwater microalgal cultures—Chlorella sorokiniana, Anabaena laxa, and Hapalosiphon welwitschii—for sorption of copper(II) from synthetic Cu(II) solutions and Marinduque, Philippines, wastewater was studied. The optimum amount of biomass for the three species was 0.025 g dry weight. The optimum contact time for both C. sorokiniana and A. laxa was 1 h, whereas that of H. welwitschii was 30 min. All three species exhibited maximum Cu(II) sorption at pH 4.0–6.0. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm was the best fit model for the three species. The three cultures were found to be effective biosorbents when used in synthetic wastewaters of low concentration (10–30 ppm). Maximum Cu(II) reductions obtained were 88.2, 88.6, and 91.7% for the C. sorokiniana, A. laxa, and H. welwitschii cultures, respectively. C. sorokiniana, A. laxa, and H. welwitschii removed 5.70, 11.16, and 7.15% of Cu(II), respectively, when applied to wastewater taken from Consolidated Mines Inc. (CMI) containing around 150 ppm Cu(II). C. sorokiniana and A. laxa, in combination, exhibited 14.05% Cu(II) removal from CMI wastewater. Desorption with 0.11 M HCl effected 73.20, 64.54, and 70.85% removal of Cu(II) from the surfaces of C. sorokiniana, A. laxa, and H. welwitschii, respectively. SEM-EDS spectra of the three species confirmed the presence of Cu(II) on their surfaces. Presented at the 6th Meeting of the Asia Pacific Society of Applied Phycology, Manila, Philippines.  相似文献

The upper limit of temperature for growth is a species-specific character in the genusChlorella. The limits of 14Chlorella species range from 26–30°C (C. saccharophila) to 38–42°C (C. sorokiniana), withC. fusca var.vacuolata (34°C) andC. kessleri (34–36°C) assuming an intermediate position. Thus, there is no wide gap in the temperature limits between the normal (“low-temperature”) species ofChlorella and the “high-temperature” species,C. sorokiniana.  相似文献

Wild populations of edible species are important source of genetic variability for cultivated lines that can undergo a drastic loss of diversity resulting from man’s selection. The development of tools aimed at the clear-cut and safe identification and assessment of genetic variability of the wild and cultivated strains is thus a fundamental goal of molecular genetic research. In this study, we used two polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based fingerprinting methods—amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of laccase and manganese peroxidase genes—to assess genetic differences among strains and independently evolving lineages belonging to the Pleurotus eryngii complex. Both laccase RFLP and AFLP have been proved to distinguish unambiguously the three taxa studied: Pleurotus ferulae, P. eryngii, and P. eryngii var. nebrodensis. AFLP also showed enough sensitivity to detect polymorphisms among the strains, proving to be an efficient DNA fingerprinting tool in studies of strain assignment. The divergent RFLP laccase and manganese peroxidase patterns are also discussed in relation to the role played by these genes in the interaction between these fungi and their host plants.  相似文献

Cryptococcus neoformans var. grubii and C. gattii were repeatedly isolated from decaying wood of trunk hollows in living trees growing in Jabalpur City in Central India. The isolation of C.␣gattii has been reported from decayed wood inside trunk hollow of Tamarindus indica (15.6%), Mangifera indica (2.2%), Pithecolobium dulce (12.5%), Syzygium cumini (14%), and one from bark of S.␣cumini. C. n. var. grubii was isolated from decaying wood debris of T. indica (4.4%), M. indica (13.3%), Terminalia arjuna (25%), S. cumini (2%), Cassia fistula (4.5%), and two from bark of S. cumini. The two varieties never co-occurred in the same hollow. C. gattii and C. n. var. grubii isolates belonged to serotype B and serotype A respectively. The data strongly supported the colonization of the pathogen in␣decaying wood hollow of all six-tree species. Evidence of this was found by repeated isolation up to 820 days. P. dulce is being reported for the first time as natural habitat of C. gattii and T.␣arjuna and C. fistula as natural habitat for C. n. var. grubii. M. indica is being reported for the second time as the natural habitat of both varieties (C. n. var. grubii and C. gattii). The population density of these pathogens from decaying wood debris of various tree species ranged between 0.5 × 103 cells/g and 6 × 105 cells/g. The seasonal variation has been seen in isolation of this yeast. Our result further reinforce the recently emerging evidence that the natural habitat of C. n. var. grubii and C. gattii is more generalized.  相似文献

Abstract

The relationships among western Eurasian and Macaronesian Cratoneuron filicinum (Hedw.) Spruce var. filicinum, C. filicinum var. atrovirens (Brid.) Ochyra, and C. curvicaule (Jur.) G.Roth were explored by ITS and the chloroplast markers rpl16 and tRNA-Gly. Haplotype networks, Jacknife, and Neighbour joining trees all provide high support for the recognition of C. curvicaule as distinct from C. filicinum, whereas the two varieties of the latter could not be distinguished. It is concluded that C. filicinum var. atrovirens most likely represents a phenotypic modification of C. filicinum that occurs especially in certain submerged environments or under heavily dripping water. The maximal support for the Cratoneuron clade and the small and quantitative morphological differences between its two species are arguments for not splitting this genus.  相似文献
