The cardiovascular responses to breath-holding (BH) during short-lasting supramaximal exercise (415 W) on a cycle ergometer were investigated in 15 healthy male subjects. The arterial oxygen saturation, heart rate (HR), endtidal PO2 and PCO2 were continuously monitored. Firstly, 15 subjects performed exercise during BH, preceded by air breathing (air-BH test), and secondly, exercise without BH. Then 9 of the subjects performed the same procedure as in the air-BH test, except that all subjects breathed 100% O2 for 1 min before apnoea (O2-BH test). In 2 of these subjects, the systemic arterial blood pressure was continuously measured via a catheter in the radial artery and plasma catecholamine concentration [CA] was also measured both during the air-BH and the O2-BH tests. In the later period of the air-BH test, the high HR level became progressively depressed. This response, however, was absent in the O2-BH test. There was a late increase in the arterial blood pressure in both tests, and both tests produced hypercapnia. Only the air-BH test resulted in hypoxia, substantial hypertension and HR-depression. The increase in plasma CA was similar in both tests. The marked HR-depression demonstrated here is ascribed mainly to activation of the peripheral arterial chemoreceptors by asphyxia, and partially to baroreceptor activity due to elevated blood pressure.  相似文献

We recorded ambulatory electrocardiograms of 6 long distance truck drivers during their work period in order to observe the affect of autonomic nervous function and symptoms while doing their work. We also recorded their work patterns every minute. The RR50 value and the LFP/HFP ratio were calculated every two minutes based on R-R interval data. RR50 was significantly higher during taking naps than during other periods of work shifts, while, the LFP/HFP ratio showed significantly lower during taking naps than during other periods of work shifts. RR50 in the morning was significantly higher than that in the afternoon. On the contrary, the LFP/HFP ratio showed opposite tendency. Only on the times of driving, RR50 was significantly higher in the morning than that in the afternoon. On the other hand, the LFP/HFP ratio showed an opposite tendency. These results show that the parasympathetic nervous activities were more dominant than sympathetic nervous activities in the morning during the subjects were doing long distance truck driving including midnight work. Driving while in high parasympathetic nervous activity levels may add to cardiovascular stress and lead to drowsiness. And this may result in disrupted attention. It is necessary to decrease work time and improve working conditions of truck drivers working long-hour shifts.  相似文献

 Growth and development can occur over a wide range of physical conditions in reptiles. Cardiovascular function must be critical to this ability. However, information on cardiovascular function in developing reptiles is lacking. Previous work indicated that in reptiles the effects of temperature on growth and metabolism are largely restricted to early development. This study examined whether the previously observed effects of temperature and different perinatal patterns of metabolism observed in amniotic vertebrates are correlated with cardiovascular function. Embryonic and hatchling carcass mass, heart mass and heart rate (HR) were compared for snapping turtle eggs (Chelydra serpentina) incubated at 24 ° and 29 °C. Incubation time was shorter at 29 °C (56.2 days) than at 24 °C (71.1 days). Carcass and heart growth showed a sigmoidal pattern at both temperatures. However, cardiac growth showed a relative decrease as incubation proceeded. Incubation temperature significantly affected the HR pattern during development. The HR of embryos incubated at 24 °C was constant for most of incubation (51.8±4.8 min-1). A small decrease was observed just prior to and a large decrease immediately following hatching (posthatch, 22.3±4.1 min-1). At 29 °C embryonic HR was greater than at 24 °C early in development (72.3±3 min-1). The HR steadily decreased to values equivalent to those at 24 °C. The HRs of 24 °C and 29 °C hatchlings were not different. Cardiac output (estimated as the product of heart mass and HR) increased rapidly during early development and then slowed dramatically at both temperatures. These data are consistent with the suggestion that temperature exerts its effects primarily early in development. Furthermore, the changes in cardiovascular function are correlated with metabolic changes in hatching vertebrates. Accepted:12 June 1996  相似文献

A tonic-clonic seizure transitions from high frequency asynchronous activity to low frequency coherent oscillations, yet the mechanism of transition remains unknown. We propose a shift in network synchrony due to changes in cellular response. Here we use phase-response curves (PRC) from Morris-Lecar (M-L) model neurons with synaptic depression and gradually decrease input current to cells within a network simulation. This method effectively decreases firing rates resulting in a shift to greater network synchrony illustrating a possible mechanism of the transition phenomenon. PRCs are measured from the M-L conductance based model cell with a range of input currents within the limit cycle. A large network of 3000 excitatory neurons is simulated with a network topology generated from second-order statistics which allows a range of population synchrony. The population synchrony of the oscillating cells is measured with the Kuramoto order parameter, which reveals a transition from tonic to clonic phase exhibited by our model network. The cellular response shift mechanism for the tonic-clonic seizure transition reproduces the population behavior closely when compared to EEG data.  相似文献

Effects of intermittent exposure to 5.6-GHz radiofrequency radiation (RFR) on heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate were examined in anesthetized rats. During exposure to 60 mW/cm2 which resulted in a 1 degree C change in colonic temperature, heart rate increased; the values returned to control levels after exposure was discontinued. No changes in mean arterial blood pressure or in respiratory rate were observed. Exposure to 30 mW/cm2 caused no significant changes in heart rate, blood pressure, or respiratory rate. The data indicate that heart rate changes during exposure to 5.6-GHz RFR are related to the average power density applied, and thus to the rate of change in temperature, and not simply to the absolute change in temperature.  相似文献

Background and Objectives

Irregular and poor quality sleep is common in business process outsourcing (BPO) employees due to continuous shift working. The influence of this on the cardiac autonomic activity was investigated by the spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV).

Methods

36 night shift BPO employees (working from 22:00 to 06:00h) and 36 age and sex matched day shift BPO employees (working from 08:00 to 16:00h) were recruited for the study. Five minute electrocardiogram (ECG) was recorded in all the subjects. Heart rate variability was analyzed by fast Fourier transformation using RMS Vagus HRV software. The results were analyzed using Mann Whitney U test, Student t-test, Wilcoxon signed rank test and were expressed as mean ± SD.

Results

Sleepiness was significantly higher among night shift workers as measured by Epworth Sleepiness Scale (p<0.001). Night shift BPO employees were found to have a trend towards lower values of vagal parameters - HF power (ms2), and higher values of sympathovagal parameters like LF Power (ms2) and the LF/HF power (%) suggesting decreased vagal activity and sympathetic over activity, when compared to day shift employees. However, HRV parameters did not vary significantly between the day shift employees and night shift workers baseline values, and also within the night shift group.

Interpretation and Conclusion

Night shift working increased the heart rate and shifted the sympathovagal balance towards sympathetic dominance and decreased vagal parameters of HRV. This is an indicator of unfavorable change in the myocardial system, and thus shows increased risk of cardiovascular disease among the night shift employees.  相似文献

Preliminary experiments were carried out to investigate the feasibility of using an electroencephalogram and heart rates to evaluate the efficacy of finger acupressure on the key points of planta pedis (both soles). Continuous electroencephalograms were recorded from 19 electrodes based on the International 10-20 electrode placement system on 22 university students (21+/-2.3 years). Spectral power changes were obtained at each electrode site. The power of the alpha1 frequency range (8-10 Hz) increased slightly during acupressure although no statistical significance was observed, while heart rates decreased in all subjects (p<0.05). Cerebral cortex asymmetry in the spectral power changes was not clearly observed during the right and left sole acupressure. This preliminary study suggests that a classification of subjects is necessary in understanding brain wave data during acupressure on soles.  相似文献

Heart rate variability (HRV) and body temperature during the sleep onset period was examined. The core body temperature and electrocardiogram were recorded continuously beginning 1 h before lights out (LO) until the end of the first rapid eye movement sleep (REM) in 14 young healthy subjects. HRV was calculated by the MemCalc method. The time course changes in body temperature and HRV was analyzed before and after sleep onset, and during the following eight consecutive phases: the 60 min before LO, the 30 min before LO, LO, first stage 2 (sleep onset), first slow wave sleep (SWS), stage 2 just before REM, start of REM, and end of REM. A clear decline was observed in the ratio of the low frequency (LF) to high frequency (HF) component of HRV (LF/HF), normalized LF (LF/(LF + HF)), and body temperature prior to sleep onset both in the time course of the sleep onset period and in the consecutive phases. The HF increased prior to sleep onset in the consecutive phases, while no clear increase was observed in the time course of sleep onset period. Changes in LF/(LF + HF) and LF/HF preceded SWS and REM. These results suggest the existence of a strong coupling between the cardiac autonomic nervous system and body temperature at the sleep onset period that may not be circadian effects. Furthermore, LF/(LF + HF) and LF/HF may possibly anticipate sleep and the onset of each sleep stage.
