Characteristic patterns of changes in pulmonary diffusing capacity (DL) at rest and during exercise were investigated and characteristics of normal DL values concerned on sex, age, and ethnic groups were examined by viewing our studies and other reports. The relation of DL and pulmonary capillary blood volume (Vc) was represented as a logarithmic regression at rest and as a linear regression during exercise. The curve relation at rest is considered to show that the increase in Vc mainly reflects the process of transport from pulmonary capillary recruitment to pulmonary capillary dilation. The increasing rate of DL was not decreased during exercise, which seemed to be due to an increase in pulmonary blood flow accompanying exercise. The linear regression was also found between DL and oxygen intake during exercise and the slope was always constant among individuals and among subject groups. The general results concerned with sex difference in Japanese or ethnic difference between Japanese and Caucasians in both sexes could show that DL per stature was greater in males or Caucasians than in females or Japanese in young adults, however, the sex or ethnic difference disappeared in middle or old aged group. DL per alveolar volume which showed no sex or ethnic difference in young adults, was greater in middle or old aged group of females or Japanese than in that of males or Caucasians.  相似文献

Arterial blood lactate concentrations were measured in six normal males before, during and after 3- and 6-min bicycle exercises performed at three different work rates. The lactate recovery curves were fitted to a bi-exponential time function consisting of a rapidly increasing and a slowly decreasing component, which supplied an accurate representation of the changes in lactate concentration. Variations in the parameters of this mathematical model have been studied as a function of the duration of exercise and of the work rate, showing a clear dependence on exercise duration such that increasing exercise length decreases the velocity constants of the fitted curves. In terms of the functional meaning which can be given to these constants, this result indicates that extending exercise duration from 3 to 6 min reduces the ability of the whole body to exchange and remove lactate. This effect did not qualitatively modify the one already described, which is due to increased work rates, but it shifted the ability to exchange and remove lactate towards lower values. The main conclusion of the study is that lactate kinetic data vary as a function of time during exercise. This inference must be accounted for in the interpretation of lactate data obtained during muscular exercise.  相似文献

The metabolic and physiological responses to different exercise to rest ratios (E:R) (2:1, 1:1, 1:2) of eight subjects exercising at work rates approximately 10% above and below maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) were assessed. Each of the six protocols consisted of 15 1-min-long E:R intervals. Total work (kJ), oxygen uptake (VO2), heart rate (fc) and plasma lactate concentrations were monitored. With increases in either E:R or work rate, VO2 and fc increased (P < 0.05). The average (15 min) VO2 and fc ranged from 40 to 81%, and from 62 to 91% of maximum, respectively. Plasma lactate concentrations nearly doubled at each E:R when work rate was increased from 90 to 110% of VO2max and ranged from a low of 1.8 mmol.l-1 (1:2-90) to a high of 10.7 mmol.l-1 (2:1-110). The 2:1-110 protocol elicited plasma lactate concentrations which were approximately 15 times greater than that of rest. These data suggest that plasma lactate concentrations during intermittent exercise are very sensitive to both work rate and exercise duration.  相似文献

In a military field artillery trial, the effects of 8 days of sustained manual work and partial sleep loss on isometric right hand grip strength and upper and lower body anaerobic power (using the Wingate test) was investigated in 25 healthy young male soldiers. During the trial, the physical activity of each subject was essentially identical except that an experimental group (n = 18) manually handled a large quantity of artillery shells (weighing 45 kg) and charges (13 kg), whilst a control group (n = 7) merely simulated manual handling activities and did no lifting or loading of shells. The daily amount of sleep obtained by each group was similar (3 to 4 hours), as were their activity patterns and food and fluid intake. Isometric right hand grip strength for both groups fell progressively during the trial and did not return to pre-trial levels during 3 days of recovery. At the end of the 8 day trial, there were statistically significant reductions in the body weight (1.9%, p less than 0.001), % body fat (7.1%, p less than 0.001) and upper body mean power (7.3%, p less than 0.01) of the experimental group but not in the controls. Lower body peak and mean power were significantly increased at the end of the trial in both the experimental (14.7%, p less than 0.001 and 17.0%, p less than 0.001 respectively) and control (14.3%, p less than 0.01 and 15.0%, p less than 0.05 respectively) groups. Lower body power decrease was significantly increased (18.1%, p less than 0.05) in the experimental group but not in the controls.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

An intervention in the clinical management of individuals with type 2 diabetes is strength and aerobic training. Limited research has been conducted that investigates the effect of a supervised strength and aerobic training program on muscular strength and aerobic capacity in people with type 2 diabetes. The purpose of this 1-group repeated-measures-designed study was to investigate the impact of a supervised strength and aerobic training program on muscular strength and aerobic capacity in subjects with type 2 diabetes. Thirteen subjects with type 2 diabetes completed the training program. Subjects met the American Diabetes Association diagnostic criteria for type 2 diabetes. For each subject, muscular strength (estimated 1 repetition maximum) and aerobic capacity (estimated maximal oxygen uptake) were measured before and after a supervised strength and aerobic training program as well as during a 6-week follow-up. Repeated-measures analysis of variance was used to compare muscular strength and aerobic capacity between pretesting, posttesting, and follow-up testing periods. Significant improvements in muscular strength (p < 0.01) and aerobic capacity (p < 0.01) were found during posttesting and follow-up testing, as compared to pretesting measures. Yet a significant loss in muscular strength (p < 0.01) and no significant change in aerobic capacity (p > 0.05) were found during follow-up testing, as compared to posttesting measures. This study indicates that a supervised strength and aerobic training program can significantly improve muscular strength and aerobic capacity in people with type 2 diabetes. Yet improvements in muscular strength due to training will not be maintained if individuals with type 2 diabetes do not adhere to a continuous training program. In addition, aerobic capacity can be improved with training, but aerobic capacity will not continue to improve if people with type 2 diabetes are not compliant with a continuous training program.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of low-intensity resistance exercise training on muscular size and strength where the interset rest period was shortened so as to reduce the metabolite clearance. Female subjects (aged 45.4 +/- 9.5 years, n = 10) performed bilateral knee extension exercises in a seated position on an isotonic leg extension machine. The exercise sessions consisted of 3 sets of exercise at a mean intensity of approximately 50% 1RM with an interset rest period of 30 seconds and was performed twice a week for a period of 12 weeks. The strength and the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the knee extensors and flexors were examined with an isokinetic dynamometer and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), respectively. The CSAs of the knee extensors and flexors increased by 7.1 +/- 1.6% (p < 0.01, Wilcoxon signed rank test) and 2.5 +/- 1.4% (not significant), respectively. Isometric and isokinetic strengths increased significantly (p < 0.01) at all velocities examined, whereas no significant change was observed in those of knee flexors. These results indicate that a low-intensity resistance exercise with a short interset rest period is substantially effective in inducing muscular hypertrophy and concomitant increase in strength.  相似文献

To investigate the effect of exercise and its associated increase in ventilation on the deposition and subsequent retention of inhaled particles, we measured the fractional and regional lung deposition of a radioactively tagged (99mTc) monodisperse aerosol (2.6 microns mass median aerodynamic diam) in normal human subjects at rest and while exercising on a bicycle ergometer. Breath-by-breath deposition fraction (DF) was measured throughout the aerosol exposures by Tyndallometry. Following each exposure gamma camera analysis was used to 1) determine the regional distribution of deposited particles and 2) monitor lung retention for 2.5 h and again at 24 h. We found that DF was unchanged between ventilation at rest (6-10 l/min) and exercise (32-46 l/min). Even though mouth deposition was enhanced with exercise, it was not large enough to produce a significant difference in the deposition fraction of the lung (DFL) between resting and exercise exposures. The central-to-peripheral distribution of deposited aerosol was larger for the exercise vs. resting exposure, reflecting a shift of particle deposition to more central bronchial airways. Apical-to-basal distribution was not different for the two exposures. Retention at 2.5 h and 24 h (R24) was reduced following the exercise vs. the resting exposure, consistent with greater bronchial deposition during exercise. The product of DFL and R24 gave a measure of fractional burden at 24 h (B24), i.e., the fraction of inhaled aerosol residing in the lungs 24 h after exposure. B24 was not significantly different between rest and exercise exposures.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
