A comparative study comprising scale morphology and squamation of Saurida tumbil was conducted to identify the most useful scale and squamation characters within the different body regions and length groups and to clarify their significance for future systematic studies. The presence of the caudal pores is documented for the first time in teleosts. In addition, the presence of crenae and spines formed by posterior orientation and projection of circuli is recorded for the first time in a member of the Synodontidae. Scales of S. tumbil show some characters that are either never seen or they are exceedingly rare in scales of other teleosts. These are: two types of scalar denticles, denticles in the inter-circular area, and twin or Siamese scales. Several other scale characters have shown a consistent variation in different body regions and in fishes from different length groups. These are: focus position; bilobate rostral field edge; presence of three radii; long, narrow and separated crenae; papillae-form, crowded scalar denticles with posterior directed spines; the number of scale rows between anterior end of the dorsal fin and the lateral line.  相似文献

Problems in cichlid systematics call for new characteristics to be exploited. Scale surface morphology and squamation patterns could provide novel and useful information. A comparative study comprising 105 African, 10 American, and eight outgroup species was conducted to identify the most useful scale and squamation characters within the family and to clarify their phylogenetic significance. A great number of obviously genetically fixed characters were established. At least IS scale granulation types could be identified, proving to be ofparticular value for systematic purposes. Squamation patterns on the head, breast and fins were also found to be of interest in this context. Different character states are described and their distribution is reviewed, together with a discussion of their plesiomorphic status. From the results it can be concluded that for the Cichlidae scale and squamation studies can be valuable tools in investigating phylogenetic relationships.  相似文献

采用扫描电镜技术对鲤科鱼类鳞片表面结构进行观察研究,目前国内尚未见报道。本工作主要以杞麓湖的鲤鱼为研究对象,同时观察了鲤亚科其他属鱼类的鳞片表面结构,发现鳞纹上的齿状粒突可能是从无到有,同时探察此结构有无可能作为分类的一项指标。鉴于杞麓鲤的鳞纹上具齿状粒突,而华南鲤则无,再综合考虑二者骨骼性状的差异,作者认为,这些性状可作为将杞麓鲤由普通鲤的一个亚种提升为一个独立种级地位的证据。从鳞片辐射沟的亚显微结构推测,辐射沟具有两方面的功能,一方面可对鳞片的热胀冷缩起缓冲作用:另一方面可增强鳞片的柔软弯曲性。  相似文献

The scales of Tilapia mossambica Peters * from Lake Sibaya show clear rings formed by broken, widely-spaced circuli in the anterior field. In order to determine the rate and time of scale ring formation, the number of circuli in the marginal increment was determined. Five scales from the pectoral region of 2223 fishes caught at regular intervals over two years were examined. When plotted as histograms, the number of circuli in the marginal increment showed a sharp movement to the left in September–October and again in January, indicating that the rings were formed during these months in the majority of fish examined. Pre- and postbreeding feeding migrations, and increases in condition factor, were associated with scale ring formation. Otoliths and opercula were also examined for age determination. Annual length increments were calculated for 450 T. mossambica collected throughout the year, and growth curves plotted. T. mossambica from Sibaya reach maturity after one year at a standard length of about 8 cm in females, and after two years at 10 cm in males. The breeding population had a standard length mode of 11–12 cm in females and 17 cm in males. The maximum final size was about 24 cm.  相似文献

The scale surface of laboratory-raised Hemichromis bimaculatus selected from five age classes contains two regions, each characterized by a distinct ornamentation. The boundary between them corresponds to the anterior limit of the epidermis that covers the free region of the scale. In the overlapped region, the circuit and denticles are oriented toward the focus of the scale and form a classical pattern of ornamentation. During growth, the size of circuli and denticles does not change after they are formed. They appear stable at the species level and could thus be used in systematics. The ornamentation of the free region of the scale is composed of rounded tubercles, elongated ridges and sometimes ctenii. These structures appear long after the scales have been formed and thereafter grow and thicken throughout the life of the fish. The ontogenetic changes suggest that these characters should be used cautiously for taxonomic studies. The ridges of the scales of wild specimens are distinctly organized in a pattern that is lacking in laboratory specimens. Mechanical and hydrodynamical implications of the ornamentation are discussed.  相似文献

Check formation on scales of roach Rutilus rutilus was examined during their production cycle at a fish farm in England through analysis of circuli patterns. Regular check formation was associated with the movement of fish from one type of grow-out facility to another; this resulted in a sudden shift in growth rate and the formation of a new check. As these had the characteristics of annual marks, their formation potentially invalidates their use as structures to determine the age of individuals during recapture events that may follow their introduction to the wild. At low growth rates, the number of circuli was constant throughout the year; this situation changed when fast growth rates were achieved. Five methods of backcalculation were also validated. When the proportionality between the body length and scale radii was weak, backcalculation methods were poor in determining length at check formation.  相似文献

Scale and squamation characters have proved to be useful in investigating phyletic relationships in the family Cichlidae. To provide a sound basis for a cladistic analysis the plesiomorphic states have to be determined. This has been done for the family as a whole as well as for some phyletic lineages. The optical light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy techniques have proven to play a key and noteworthy role in the advancement of morphological studies in general, and in investigating fish scale morphology in particular. These techniques have illustrated several hidden architectural structures in scales that contribute effectively to fish identification and classification. The scale morphological and topological characters such as type, size, shape, lateral surface, focus position, circuli appearance, radii type, lepidonts, and posterior and anterior margin shapes were obtained using macro- and microscopic analysis in six body regions for three size classes of Garra sharq, a cyprinid endemic fish of the Arabian Peninsula. The general scale type in the studied G. sharq species was a basal elasmoid cycloid and a sectioned type. As a protective structure, the scales display several specific characteristics including firm attachment to the fish body, overlapping, and thin structure with a high surface area and high strength. These characteristics improve scale resistance to penetration, increase protection against mechanical injury and microbial infection, enhance scale flexibility, reduce fish weight (reduce friction drag), and increase scale transparency. The scales demonstrate plasticity in focus shape, size, and position in the six fish body parts and fish size groups. The examined scales displayed narrow or wide grooves (radii) in three types including primary, secondary, and tertiary present in all four scale fields (anterior, posterior, and laterals), thus a tetra-sectioned type that is almost specific to the genus Garra. This characteristic also increases scale flexibility. The rostral margin of scales was characterized by the presence of waved and striate types. The lepidont shape and size varied being blunt, flat, pointed, tiny, sharp, short, and long. Some of these scale characters and their morphologies could be used as an alternative tool for identification, classification, and phylogenetic interpretation among the different freshwater fish species and genera.  相似文献

The scales of the roach (Rutilus rutilus L.), rudd (Scardinus erythropthalmus L.) and Crucian carp (Carassius carassius L.) Cyprinidae, Teleostei, were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The circuli in the overlapped areas of the scales were found to be denticulated. Inter-specific variation of denticular morphology, height and spacing was revealed when circuli of comparable ontogenetic age were investigated. The osseus material forming the circuli is reduced in thickness or absent at the scale radii. On the basis of the results of this study it is considered that the term micro-structure should be used in preference to ‘ornamentation’ to describe scale surface characteristics.  相似文献

The regenerating scale and tissues comprising the scale pocket of Fundulus olivaceus were examined microscopically at specific intervals. Scale removal resulted in a thickening of the epidermis which persisted through the early stages of regeneration. This thickening was due in part to the appearance of columnar basal cells which divided producing cells that became mucous cells and squamous cells. The scale regenerated as a relatively large plate of bone which first appeared between layers of scleroblasts on the floor of the scale pocket and then grew producing circuli and radii. By the fourth day of regeneration, calcium was observed in the cytoplasm of the scleroblasts and at randomly distributed foci in the osseous portion of the scale. The osseous layer was completely calcified by 15 days of regeneration.  相似文献

The longevity of original scales and the process and consequences of scale regeneration in the euryhaline Common goby, Pomatoschistus microps (Kroyer), has been studied by monthly sampling of two populations. Scale regeneration comprises four stages: formation of a new growth centre, a regenerated area in the form of a wide central irregular area lacking concentric circuli: formation of short and widely spaced circuli at the outermost region of the regenerated area: a check in regenerated scale growth on reaching the size of the original scales: and the commencement of normal growth similar to that of the surrounding original scales. Growth of regenerated scales within 30 days was not sufficient to attain the same size of the original ones. The average percentage of regenerated scales in successive months during the life span of P. microps is about 20% in immature fish and sharply increases up to about 60% of the total scales during the breeding season. The correlation between sharp increases in regenerated scales and the breeding season is also confirmed on examining scales from two other gobioid species, Gobius paganellus and Gobius cobitis. It is suggested that the loss of a large number of scales may result in the check in body growth during the breeding season.  相似文献

The study of ontogenetic and morphological changes in different species of the brachiopod genus Caryona COOPER (Terebratulidae) from the Lower Callovian‐Lower Oxfordian of northern France shows a succession (and an interference) of processes which vary according to the characters studied. This is an example of “mosaic evolution”;. The ontogenetic changes result from heterochrony, especially acceleration and hypermorphism. The main phylogenetic tendency is peramorphosis in most characters. This evolutionary pattern agrees with phyletic gradualism.

Moreover, analysis of the internal characters demonstrates the limited value of these in discrimination of the various genera.  相似文献

在研究标本的基础上,根据配子体和孢子体的外部形态及其解剖结构和文献中对中国湿地藓属(Hyophila)系统位置的主要观点,鉴定出河南省分布有该属植物6种,其中花状湿地藓(H.nymaniana)、四川湿地藓(H.setschwanica)、匙叶湿地藓(H.spathulata)3种为河南省藓类新记录.编制了河南省湿地藓属植物分种检索表,对每个种的生境、分布及识别特征进行了概述.并对湿地藓属的系统演化位置以及该属植物在河南省的分布进行了讨论.  相似文献

幼草鱼鳞片环纹,以孵出后第二个月生长最快,往后生长减慢,冬季停止生长。幼鱼体长一般在47—70毫米形成幼轮。鳞片的“切割相”是区别年轮和幼轮的标志。幼鱼在饥饿时,环片不仅不增长,反而出现环片被吸收的现象。鳞片上各种副轮标记的形成与摄食条件的变化有关。计算了体长与鳞径、环纹数以及鳞径与环纹数的迴归方程,它们之间都呈直线正相关,相关显著性均在99%以上。    相似文献

本文应用分支系统学原理对鳅(鱼它)鱼类的鳔囊、鳔及相关结构进行了特征分圻,并以(鱼句)亚科作为外类群。解剖结果表明,鳅(鱼它)鱼类的鳔分四种类型;分析结果进一步证实鳅(鱼它)鱼类是一个单源群,作为一亚科可分为异鳔鳅(鱼它)属和鳅(鱼它)属,后者又分为原鳅(鱼它)和鳅(鱼它)二个亚属。  相似文献

The structure of teleost scales from snakehead Channa argus was investigated using thermogravimetric analysis (TG), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive analysis of X-rays (EDAX), Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Thermal treatment of fish scales indicates that the fibrillary plate is partially calcified. SEM shows two kinds of scale denticles, arranged along the circuli in the anterior field and the lateral fields, respectively. TEM indicates the stratum laxum with abundant fibrils, chromatophores and capillary blood vessels within the scale covering, and shows the fibrillary plate as an 'orthogonal plywood structure' of stratified lamellae, consisting of 80–100 nm diameter collagen fibres co-aligned in individual lamellae and alternated by c. 90° of the fibre alignment between adjacent lamellae. EDAX, FTIR and XRD show that the mineral phase of the scales is a carbonated hydroxyapatite with a Ca:P molar ratio of 1·85.  相似文献

Polyploidization is an evolutionarily rare but important mechanism in both plants and animals because it increases genetic diversity. Goldfish of the Carassius auratus species complex can be tetraploids, hexaploids and octaploids. Polyploidization events have occurred repeatedly in goldfish, yet the extent of this phenomenon and its phyletic history are poorly understood. We explore the origin, tempo and frequency of polyploidization in Chinese and Japanese goldfish using both mitochondrial (mtDNA) and nuclear DNA sequences from up to 1202 individuals including the outgroup taxon, Cyprinus carpio. Analyses of de novo nuclear gene data resolve two clusters of alleles and the pattern supports the prior hypothesis of an ancient allotetraploidization for Carassius. Alleles shared by tetraploid and hexaploid individuals indicate recent autoploidizations within the C. auratus complex. Sympatric tetraploids and hexaploids share mtDNA haplotypes and these frequently occur independently within six well-supported lineages and sublineages on a small spatial scale. Gene flow estimates (Fst values) indicate that hexaploids differ only slightly from sympatric tetraploids, if at all. In contrast, allopatric populations of tetraploids and hexaploids differ from one another to a far greater extent. Gene flow between sampled localities appears to be limited. Coalescence-based time estimations for hexaploids reveal that the oldest lineage within any sampled locality is around one million years old, which is very young. Sympatric, recurrent autoploidization occurs in all sampled populations of the C. auratus complex. Goldfish experience polyploidization events more frequently than any other vertebrate.  相似文献

The genus Monobellu Cassagnau, 1979 (Collembola) is redefined. Four new species and one new subspecies are described from Pyrenees and Cevennes (France) on the basis of labrum morphology, tubercle arrangement on tergites and chaetotaxy of somites: Monobellu culvu sp. n., Monobellu eduphica sp. n., Monobellu grussei minor ssp. n., Monobellu juu sp. n., and Monobellu rousseti sp. n. The subspecies Monobellu grussei dubiu Deharveng, 1986 is reassigned to specific level. A key to the 14 species and subspecies of Monobellu is given. Except M. g. minor ssp. n. which is present in the Pyrenees and the Massif Central and the widespread M. g. grussei (Denis, 1923), all Monobellu species and subspecies are narrow endemics of the Pyrenean range; their distribution is mapped in details. A phylogenetic analysis is performed, taking into account the high level of polymorphism of some characters and the incomplete genetic isolation between certain subspecies, indicated in the field by the presence of narrow hybrid zones. Though obtained under different assumptions and constraints, the most parsimonious cladograms exhibit only slight differences, and the proposed phyletic reconstruction can be considered as robust. It adequately reflects the known distribution of the species in the Pyrenees, it confirms the monophyly of the species M. grussei and supports, in agreement with field distribution data, the idea that reticulate evolution might have occurred in this taxon. © The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters  相似文献
