It has been proposed that selenium (Se) and Vitamin E (Vit E) are involved synergistically in protection of cell membrane lipids from peroxidation. However, little is known about the effect of both deficiencies of Se and Vit E and toxic status of those antioxidants on the peroxidation potentiality of the brain. We aimed to study the effects of both Se and Vit E inadequate diet and Se rich diet on the learning and memory processes of third-generation young rats. Their ancestors were also fed by the same diets starting from their births. To test the learning and memory, the rats aged 60 days were trained by using automated two ways active avoidance shuttle box. The acquisition tests were terminated with training the rat from each group to be 25 trials per day during three days. Ten days after the last acquisition test, the retention test was performed and the acquisition of the conditioned avoidance responses (CAR) of the rats were evaluated. It is demonstrated that the CAR of all rats from three groups showed a significant increase in three consecutive days while the differences observed in CAR of same sessions was not significantly different among three groups. The memory process of these young rats also was not affected significantly by two types of diets. Under the light of our results one can suggest that, in the case of alterations in antioxidant defense status, the learning and the memory mechanisms seems to be not affected. Further researches are needed to be able to explain the possible role of oxidative stress on the mechanisms of learning and memory.  相似文献

In five dogs correlation was studied of heart rate (HR) and motor component of conditioned avoidance reflex (CAR), elaborated by Petropavlovski? method. Stable CAR was expressed in lifting and long (not less than 5-10 sec) holding of the paw on definite height (5-10 cm) for the avoidance of painful electrocutaneous paw stimulation in response to conditioned acoustic stimulus. The level of defensive excitation, evaluated by heart rate change was maximum before the beginning of the conditioned motor reaction. Immediately after lifting and placing the paw in the zone of security a sharp decrease of defensive excitation level ("drive" reduction) took place. Intertrial motor reactions of two types were revealed. The first type imitated the conditioned motor reaction, the second one the usual phasic bending of the paw. Against the background of intertrial movement of the first, operant type a decrease of defensive motivation took similarity as it occurred against the background of CAR during the performance response.  相似文献

DGAVP facilitates consolidation and retrieval of active and passive avoidance behavior. In this study it was tested whether the long-term behavioral effects of DGAVP are the consequence of an initial increase in behavioral arousal during the learning phase. Animals that were preestimated in an open field test to be low active showed a lower number of conditioned avoidance responses (CAR's) during acquisition and extinction of a shuttle-box task than high active rats. DGAVP was administered 40 min prior to the 1st acquisition session. The immediate effect of DGAVP was a shift in the bell-shaped curve of the relation between arousal and performance (13); an increase in acquisition performance was observed with a low dose of DGAVP (0.1 microgram), while a decrease was found with a high dose of DGAVP (1 microgram). A dose-dependent inhibition of extinction was found in both low and high active animals. These results suggest an immediate effect of DGAVP on the rate of acquisition behavior, which may be a direct consequence of its arousing properties, and a long-term effect on extinction, indicating the formation of memory traces specific for vasopressin-related neuropeptides.  相似文献

Intraventricular injection of 250 mug of 6-hydroxydopamine, twice in two days apart caused a complete abolition of learning of conditioned avoidance response (CAR) in rats. L-DOPA in a dose of 100 mg/kg and then in a dose of 200 mg/kg 1. p. injected during several days did not restore the learning of CAR. This indicates that intact catecholaminergic neurons are essential for the learning of CAR. We suggest that different brain mechanisms are involved in learning and maintaining gross locomotor behavior.  相似文献

Estradiol accelerates extinction of LiCl-induced conditioned taste avoidance when it is present continuously before and during acquisition. We have suggested that the effect of estradiol on extinction is due to its illness-associated, rather than learning-associated, properties. If this were the case, then one would expect estradiol to act before but not during acquisition. This expectation is based on previous work showing attenuation of learned taste avoidance when rats are given distal preexposure (greater than 24 h before conditioning) or proximal preexposure (less than 24 h before conditioning) to the illness-inducing agent LiCl before acquisition of a LiCl-induced conditioned taste avoidance. In three separate experiments, estradiol was administered during three different time periods via subcutaneous implantation of a 10-mm estradiol-filled capsule. In each experiment, the extinction of estradiol-treated females was compared to that of females implanted with empty capsules. In the first experiment, female rats were given distal exposure to estradiol before acquisition. Capsules were implanted 11 days before acquisition and were removed 2 days before acquisition. In the second experiment, female rats were given proximal exposure to estradiol before acquisition. Capsules were implanted 2.5 h before LiCl was paired with a sucrose solution and were removed 16.5 h later. In the third experiment, female rats were given exposure to estradiol during acquisition. Capsules were implanted at the same time as LiCl administration and were removed 18 h later. The only estradiol-treated females to show accelerated extinction were those given distal preexposure to estradiol in Experiment 1. These data do not support a learning-associated hypothesis and only partially support an illness-associated hypothesis. The failure to find accelerated extinction following proximal preexposure may reflect an inappropriate choice of the parameters used in the experiment or a difference in the stimulus properties of LiCl and estradiol that allow each to serve as conditioning and preexposure agents in conditioned taste avoidance paradigms [corrected].  相似文献

During acquisition of avoidance conditioned reflex (CR) in shuttle box by electric shock it is shown that the performance of that defence reaction is induced by the joint action of two factors: general arousal of animals and motivation. Motor activity of rats in an "open field", the number of short-latency (2s) and intersignal responses during formation of the avoidance CR are in index of the general arousal of rats. An artificial increase in the general arousal of animals by caffeine induces acceleration of CR performance. A constant level of the general arousal of rats is one of the reasons that oxytocin does not influence the rate and dynamics of the avoidance CR performance in rats.  相似文献

The monoamine oxidase (MAO) activities and the concentrations of 5-HT and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid were investigated in four brain regions in rats during the acquisition of latent inhibition in one-trial passive avoidance task. 5-HT metabolism was not altered in the hippocampus. Changes of 5-HT metabolism were found in the frontal cortex during testing of latent inhibition and were accompanied by lowering of MAO activity. No change of 5-HT metabolism was observed in this structure at the stage of pre-exposition to conditioned stimulus. 5-HT metabolism was activated at the stage of pre-exposition to conditioned stimulus in the amygdala and striatum and was maintained on high level, in these structures during testing of latent inhibition. The data presented here indicate that serotoninergic system in various brains regions is specifically involved in the formation of different stages of latent inhibition.  相似文献

Four juvenile rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) that were conditioned to emit a discriminative vocal response underwent unilateral and bilateral lesions of anterior cingulate gyrus in stepwise sequence. Pre- and post-lesion measures of vocal response rate and acoustical features (call duration, amplitude, and fundamental frequency) were obtained for the conditioned task and for vocalization in the home colony (spontaneous vocalization). Unilateral lesions produced little consistent change in spontaneous “coo” vocalization rate and call duration. Conditioned vocalization of the monkeys exhibited no significant change in rate at this stage, although call duration was reduced significantly. Bilateral lesions produced no further modifications in acoustic properties of spontaneous calls, while the vocal rate decreased slightly. Conditioned calls were not significantly altered in acoustic features at this stage, although the discriminative vocalization rate was significantly decreased for all monkeys. The results indicate limited control over vocal motor systems by anterior cingulate cortex, while suggesting that this region participates in initiation of voluntary phonation.  相似文献

The effects of cholecystokinin octapeptide sulfate ester (CCK-8-SE) and unsulfated cholecystokinin (CCK-8-NS) were studied following intraventricular administration on active avoidance and conditioned feeding behaviour of rats. In the CCK-8-NS and CCK-8-SE treated animals the acquisition of active avoidance and conditioned feeding behaviour were considerably impaired compared to the control; furthermore, these peptides caused a facilitated extinction of active avoidance and conditioned feeding behaviour. The data suggest that cholecystokinin octapeptide is capable of modifying the fear and hunger motivated behaviours of rats.  相似文献

Behavior of neurotized white rats was studied in two experimental situations: during training for passive and active avoidance of electroshock applied to the limbs and during testing the acquisition of the conditioned avoidance. It was shown that in behavior of rats in the neurosis-like state the signs of anxiety and fear dominated, the orienting-exploratory behavior was suppressed. The state correction was performed by per os introduction of the natural vitamin complex Aekol during the neurotization of animals.  相似文献

本文研究了在大鼠两侧背海马内注射6-OHDA后,儿茶酚胺能纤维和多巴胺能纤维末梢在穿梭箱条件性回避行为习得和保持中的作用。结果表明:(1)6-OHDA使海马内多巴胺含量明显减少,特别是去甲肾上腺素含量的减少更为显著。(2)条件性回避行为的习得受到损害。(3)海马内注射加压素易化条件性回避行为的效应被阻断。  相似文献

Acquisition of two components of conditioned active avoidance behavior by rats was studied. First presentations of electroshock evoked a number of different behavioral reactions. However, after five trials many rats learned to escape punishment running away to another part of a shuttle-box. The efficiency of the avoidance reaction conditioning significantly depended on the ability of an animal to learn the correct escape reaction to the unconditioned stimulus. However, some animals were incapable for acquisition of the conditioned reaction despite their high level of successful escapes. Increase in the number of negative reactions to the conditioned stimulus (light) at the next stage of learning suggests that the conditioned stimulus becomes the signal of forthcoming punishment. The ability of an animal to identify the conditioned stimulus as a signal significantly affected the efficiency of conditioned avoidance acquisition.  相似文献

The effects of two benzodiazepine derivatives (diazepam, 0.5-1 mg/kg; alprazolam, 1.25-2.5 mg/kg) on ultrasonic calling elicited in adult rats by unavoidable aversive stimuli (footshocks) were investigated. The results show that either diazepam or alprazolam affected the duration of ultrasonic calls. In particular, a significant decrease in the length of ultrasounds was found in the group of animals treated with these benzodiazepines. The effects of diazepam were counteracted by the benzodiazepine-antagonist Ro 15-1788. On the other hand, neither a neuroleptic agent, such as haloperidol (0.5-1 mg/kg), nor an antidepressant, such as desipramine (5-10 mg/kg) influenced the parameters of ultrasonic emission in this experimental situation. The present results suggest that ultrasonic vocalization in response to unavoidable aversive stimuli could be considered as a potential new tool for studying drugs with antianxiety properties.  相似文献

Spatial navigation is used as a popular animal model of higher cognitive functions in people. The data suggest that the hippocampus is important for both storing spatial memories and for performing spatial computations necessary for navigation. Animals use multiple behavioral strategies to solve spatial tasks often using multiple memory systems. We investigated how inactivation of the rat hippocampus affects performance in a place avoidance task to determine if the role of the hippocampus in this task could be attributed to memory storage/retrieval or to the computations needed for navigation. Injecting tetrodotoxin (TTX) into both hippocampi impaired conditioned place avoidance, but after injecting only one hippocampus, the rats learned the place avoidance as well as without any injections. Retention of the place avoidance learned with one hippocampus was not impaired when the injection was switched to the hippocampus that had not been injected during learning. The result suggests that during learning, the hippocampus did not store the place avoidance memory.  相似文献

Four groups of 10 male rats (Group A: normal rats, Group B: castrated rats, Group C: castrated rats + 1 mg P.T./day, Group D: castrated rats + 1 dose of 50 mg/kg of P.T. cyclohexane) were avoidance conditioned during nine sessions of 50 trials. They were conditioned individually during sessions 4, 5 and 6 and by pairs during sessions 1, 2, 3, 7, 8 and 9. During these last sessions, all groups presented a low level of acquisition and aggressive behaviour. These phenomena were worsened in the castrated rats whose performances stayed low even when they were conditioned individually. On the other hand, the frequency of their aggressive behaviour was often higher than that of the other groups. The injection of P.T. cyclo-hexane improves the performance of the castrated animals but does not entirely compensate for the differences between control and experimental rats.  相似文献

The hormonal control of ultrasonic vocal behavior in the male Mongolian gerbil was examined by comparing the behavioral effects of androgen with those of estrogen administered to the preoptic-anterior hypothalamic area (POA-AH) in castrates. By measuring radioactivity released from solid "floating" POA-AH microimplants (mean diameter, 141 microns) of testosterone (3H-T, mean weight, 880 ng) in Experiment 1, we found that the steroid had a concentration gradient which fell rapidly from the edge of the microimplant, suggesting restricted diffusion. Using floating microimplants in Experiment 2, we studied the effects of testosterone propionate (TP, 650 ng), estradiol-17 beta benzoate (EB, 439 ng), or cholesterol (C, 478 ng) on rates of a frequency modulated ultrasonic vocalization emitted during sexual interactions. The effects on the upsweep call were compared with those on sexual mounting. The upsweep rate remained significantly below precastration levels in C implanted males. EB reinstated upsweep calling within 5 days, 3 days earlier than TP microimplants. Mounting in EB implanted males was maintained at precastration levels, whereas TP implantation restored mounting to precastration levels only after 5 days. EB was effective in inducing ultrasonic vocalizations when placed in, or near, the sexually dimorphic area (SDA) in the medial preoptic area (POM). Our results indicate that brain mechanisms underlying both ultrasonic vocalizations and mounting are directly sensitive to estradiol (E2) in the male gerbil. We conclude that E2 affects mechanisms in the SDA associated with ultrasonic calling and suggest that T is likely to act via aromatization products in the brain.  相似文献

Alcohol administration in drinking water to mother rats during gestation resulted in a permanent learning deficit of the offspring when behavioural reactions were tested in active avoidance conditioned reflex situation in adult age. A similar deficit of learning capacity was observed in adult rats following alcohol administration for two weeks; the acquisition of active avoidance response was tested later. Administration of arginine-vasopressin and ACTH 4-10 during behavioural test led to a significant improvement of learning ability of the animals pretreated with alcohol. The observations indicate that the ethanol-induced deficit of learning capacity involves peptidergic mechanisms and the behavioural manifestations following chronic alcohol treatment are not irreversible processes.  相似文献

Recently purified melanocyte-stimulating hormones (MSH's) from dogfish pituitary tissue were tested on extinction of a conditioned avoidance response (CAR). Corticotrophin like intermediate lobe peptides (CLIP's) from dogfish and porcine origin were tested for an effect on avoidance extinction as well. All peptides appeared to delay extinction of the CAR.The results suggest that the pituitary contains various peptides which influence adaptive behavior. The observation that MSH is more potent in delaying extinction of the CAR then CLIP leads to the conclusion that the behavioral active sequence of the ACTH molecules is located in the N terminal part rather than in the C terminal part of the polypetide.  相似文献

When amphetamine is associated with a tastant conditioned stimulus, rats learn to avoid the taste even when employing doses that promote conditioned place preference. One hypothesis raised to account for this effect proposes that taste avoidance induced by amphetamine may be motivated by fear. A sensitive period has been identified in the rat (until postnatal day 10) in which infants learn conditioned appetitive effects to stimuli to which aversions are conditioned after this period. Exogenous administration of corticosterone within this period reverses this effect, generating aversive conditioning. In the present study, we tested conditioning of aversions to amphetamine or LiCl, within and after the sensitive period (Experiments 1 and 2). A third experiment evaluated unconditioned rejection of an aversive quinine solution within the sensitive period. Finally, we tested whether corticosterone administration before conditioning modulates amphetamine-induced taste avoidance. After the sensitive period, infant rats rejected the solution paired with amphetamine or LiCl after 2 conditioning trials, but within the sensitive period, aversions were conditioned only by LiCl and after 4 conditioning trials. Amphetamine-induced taste avoidance was not observed even when corticosterone was administered before conditioning. Additionally, during the sensitive period, a low LiCl dose promoted conditioned taste preference. According to Experiment 3, parameters employed in this study were suitable to yield rejection of aversive solutions within the sensitive period. These results suggest that during the sensitive period, there is a notable resistance to the acquisition of taste avoidance induced by amphetamine. The present experimental framework may represent a useful tool for studying mechanisms underlying taste avoidance and aversion effects.  相似文献

The dynamic peculiarities of formation of conditioned avoidance in rats were studied during 15-day sessions using different experimental paradigms (massed and spaced training). In all the experimental situations, the acquisition curves were wave-like (independently of the paradigm). Regression curves of the 6th or 7th order most perfectly fit the experimental data, which suggests that the acquisition dynamics in both paradigms is non-linear.  相似文献
