The tmRNA website

The tmRNA Website collects all available tmRNA sequences into a single public resource, along with alignments and a guide to searching for new sequences. Over the last year, several sequences have been updated or newly found by monitoring ongoing genome sequencing projects; tmRNA sequence data from 70 species are now available. New features include: color-coding of sequences to mark suggested base-paired regions, a list of the literature concerning tmRNA, careful crediting of tmRNA sequence identifications, and a split browser window. Updates are very frequent. The tmRNA Website has a new URL: http:www.indiana.edu/~tmrna

The Pathway Tools software

MOTIVATION: Bioinformatics requires reusable software tools for creating model-organism databases (MODs). RESULTS: The Pathway Tools is a reusable, production-quality software environment for creating a type of MOD called a Pathway/Genome Database (PGDB). A PGDB such as EcoCyc (see http://ecocyc.org) integrates our evolving understanding of the genes, proteins, metabolic network, and genetic network of an organism. This paper provides an overview of the four main components of the Pathway Tools: The PathoLogic component supports creation of new PGDBs from the annotated genome of an organism. The Pathway/Genome Navigator provides query, visualization, and Web-publishing services for PGDBs. The Pathway/Genome Editors support interactive updating of PGDBs. The Pathway Tools ontology defines the schema of PGDBs. The Pathway Tools makes use of the Ocelot object database system for data management services for PGDBs. The Pathway Tools has been used to build PGDBs for 13 organisms within SRI and by external users.

The age-related tumor incidence in Wistar-Imamichi rat

The age-related incidences and types of spontaneous tumors were studied in 320 male and 354 female Wistar-Imamichi rats reared up to 130 weeks of age. The tumor incidence increased abruptly between 53 and 78 weeks of age, and 170 males and 269 females were shown to bear tumors during the observation period. Multiple tumors occurred in 62 males and 115 females. Most common were hypophyseal (male 69: female 224), mammary gland (29:99), testicular (74:0) and adrenal gland (26:21) tumors. The incidences of hypophyseal and testicular tumors increased with age. Tumors occurred in later stages of the observation period in the ovary, uterus and vagina (0:27), thyroid and parathyroid (13:12), skin (8:8), spleen and lymph nodes (8:7), pancreas (9:5), liver (3:7), lung (3:3), thymus (1:4), omentum and mesenterium (2:3), stomach and intestine (2:2), kidney and urinary bladder (1:2), right femur (0:1), and brain (0:1).
