Introduction
Allograft rejection is still an important complication after kidney transplantation. Currently, monitoring of these patients mostly relies on the measurement of serum creatinine and clinical evaluation. The gold standard for diagnosing allograft rejection, i.e. performing a renal biopsy is invasive and expensive. So far no adequate biomarkers are available for routine use.Objectives
We aimed to develop a urine metabolite constellation that is characteristic for acute renal allograft rejection.Methods
NMR-Spectroscopy was applied to a training cohort of transplant recipients with and without acute rejection.Results
We obtained a metabolite constellation of four metabolites that shows promising performance to detect renal allograft rejection in the cohorts used (AUC of 0.72 and 0.74, respectively).Conclusion
A metabolite constellation was defined with the potential for further development of an in-vitro diagnostic test that can support physicians in their clinical assessment of a kidney transplant patient.2.

Lateral skin folds or 'dog-ears' are frequent following mastectomy, particularly in patients with large body habitus.Methods

Introduction
Persons living with HIV (PLWH) are at higher risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) events than uninfected persons. Current risk-stratification methods to define PLWH at highest risk for CVD events are lacking.Methods
Using tandem flow injection mass spectrometry, we quantified plasma levels of 60 metabolites in 24 matched pairs of PLWH [1:1 with and without known coronary artery disease (CAD)]. Metabolite levels were reduced to interpretable factors using principal components analysis.Results
Factors derived from short-chain dicarboxylacylcarnitines (SCDA) (p?=?0.08) and glutamine/valine (p?=?0.003) were elevated in CAD cases compared to controls.Conclusion
SCDAs and glutamine/valine may be valuable markers of cardiovascular risk among persons living with HIV in the future, pending validation in larger cohorts.4.

Objectives
To explore potential effects of recombinant human fibroblast growth factor 20 (rhFGF20) in the growth of cultured mouse vibrissal follicles.Results
The growth of cultured mouse vibrissal follicles was significantly induced by rhFGF20 in a dose dependent pattern in the in vitro vibrissal follicle organ culture model. However, too high concentration of rhFGF20 could inhibit the growth of vibrissal follicles. We further demonstrated that rhFGF20 stimulated the proliferation of hair matrix cells and activated Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.Conclusions
The rhFGF20 might be a potential therapeutic agent to treat hair loss disorders.6.

Objective
To design and synthesize a novel near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe based on indocyanine Green (ICG), that can be applied in imaging living cells.Results
A highly fluorescent novel NIR fluorescent probe (IR-793) was synthesized in two steps. IR-793 had better fluorescence and optical stability than ICG. In addition, no obvious cytotoxicity effect of IR-793 was observed and cell viability was above 75% at the maximum concentration (120 nM). IR-793 also exhibited good performance in imaging living A549 cells.Conclusion
IR-793, a novel NIR fluorescent probe that is stable, low-cost, highly fluorescent and low cytotoxicity, has been designed and synthesized for imaging living cells.7.

(i) Review data sharing policies of journals publishing the most metabolomics papers associated with open data and (ii) compare these journals’ policies to those that publish the most metabolomics papers.Methods
A PubMed search was used to identify metabolomics papers. Metabolomics data repositories were manually searched for linked publications.Results
Journals that support data sharing are not necessarily those with the most papers associated to open metabolomics data.Conclusion
Further efforts are required to improve data sharing in metabolomics.8.

Purpose of Review
Invasive candidiasis (IC) is the leading cause of fungal infections in solid organ transplant recipients (SOT). In this article, we aim to review the epidemiology, risk factors, presentation, and management of IC in this population.Recent Findings
Certain risk factors have been associated with IC in SOT recipients. Targeted antifungal prophylaxis for SOT recipients at the highest risk of infection is currently recommended although the choice and duration of antifungal agents remain controversial. Early diagnosis and monitoring of IC in SOT recipients are critical to achieve better outcomes and prevent serious complications. Non-culture-based diagnostic modalities have been introduced to aid in earlier and more accurate diagnosis.Summary
The use of azoles for prophylaxis or treatment in SOT recipients allowed for selection of resistance and increased the incidence of non-albicans Candida. Drug–drug interactions, cost, and risk of resistance are to be considered when using more potent or newer antifungal agents.10.

Introduction
Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is a common maternal liver disease; development can result in devastating consequences, including sudden fetal death and stillbirth. Currently, recognition of ICP only occurs following onset of clinical symptoms.Objective
Investigate the maternal hair metabolome for predictive biomarkers of ICP.Methods
The maternal hair metabolome (gestational age of sampling between 17 and 41 weeks) of 38 Chinese women with ICP and 46 pregnant controls was analysed using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry.Results
Of 105 metabolites detected in hair, none were significantly associated with ICP.Conclusion
Hair samples represent accumulative environmental exposure over time. Samples collected at the onset of ICP did not reveal any metabolic shifts, suggesting rapid development of the disease.12.

Quantification of tetrahydrofolates (THFs), important metabolites in the Wood–Ljungdahl pathway (WLP) of acetogens, is challenging given their sensitivity to oxygen.Objective
To develop a simple anaerobic protocol to enable reliable THFs quantification from bioreactors.Methods
Anaerobic cultures were mixed with anaerobic acetonitrile for extraction. Targeted LC–MS/MS was used for quantification.Results
Tetrahydrofolates can only be quantified if sampled anaerobically. THF levels showed a strong correlation to acetyl-CoA, the end product of the WLP.Conclusion
Our method is useful for relative quantification of THFs across different growth conditions. Absolute quantification of THFs requires the use of labelled standards.13.

The extracted compounds were analyzed by LC/MS and GC/MS.Results
The results show that 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate (IL-Ac) predominantly resulted in fatty acids, whereas 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tosylate (IL-Tos) mostly yielded phenolic structures. Interestingly, bark yielded more ionic liquid soluble metabolites compared to interior wood.Conclusion
From this one can conclude that the application of ionic liquids may expand the metabolic snapshot.15.

Objective
To highlight the salient features of metastatic malignancies involving the penis, with special reference to the primary tumour sites, metastatic mechanisms, clinical features, differential diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.Methods
A comprehensive search of the literature was performed using MEDLINE and EMBASE, using the keywords 'penis', 'secondary malignancy', 'metastasis' and 'malignant priapism' to identify reviews and case reports of secondary penile malignancy. A case of rare clinical presentation of metastatic penile lesion is presented along with the review of the literature.Conclusion
Secondary malignancy of the penis is a rare clinical entity, despite the rich vascularisation of this organ. The majority of metastatic lesions take their origin from the neighbouring genito-urinary organs, mainly prostate and bladder. These lesions are often associated with disseminated malignancy and hence have a poor outcome. Nodular or ulcerative lesions involving the corpora cavernosa or priapism are the main modes of clinical presentation. In most cases, only palliative or supportive therapy is indicated.16.

Introduction
The immunosuppressive therapy with everolimus (ERL) after heart transplantation is characterized by a narrow therapeutic window and a substantial variability in dose requirement. Factors explaining this variability are largely unknown.Objectives
Our aim was to evaluate factors affecting ERL metabolism and to identify novel metabolites associated with the individual ERL dose requirement to elucidate mechanisms underlying ERL dose response variability.Method
We used liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry for quantification of ERL metabolites in 41 heart transplant patients and evaluated the effect of clinical and genetic factors on ERL pharmacokinetics. Non-targeted plasma metabolic profiling by ultra-performance liquid chromatography and high resolution quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry was used to identify novel metabolites associated with ERL dose requirement.Results
The determination of ERL metabolites revealed differences in metabolite patterns that were independent from clinical or genetic factors. Whereas higher ERL dose requirement was associated with co-administration of sodium-mycophenolic acid and the CYP3A5 expressor genotype, lower dose was required for patients receiving vitamin K antagonists. Global metabolic profiling revealed several novel metabolites associated with ERL dose requirement. One of them was identified as lysophosphatidylcholine (lysoPC) (16:0/0:0). Subsequent targeted analysis revealed that high levels of several lysoPCs were significantly associated with higher ERL dose requirement.Conclusion
For the first time, this study describes distinct ERL metabolite patterns in heart transplant patients and detected potentially new drug–drug interactions. The global metabolic profiling facilitated the discovery of novel metabolites associated with ERL dose requirement that might represent new clinically valuable biomarkers to guide ERL therapy.17.

Introduction
Pseudotumor cerebri is an entity characterized by elevated intracranial pressure with normal cerebrospinal fluid and no structural abnormalities detected on brain MRI scans. Common secondary causes include endocrine pathologies. Hyperthyroidism is very rarely associated and only three case reports have been published so far.Case presentation
We report the case of a 31-year-old Luso-African woman with clinical symptoms and laboratory confirmation of Graves' disease that presented as pseudotumor cerebri.Conclusion
This is a rare form of presentation of Graves' disease and a rare cause of pseudotumor cerebri. It should be remembered that hyperthyroidism is a potential cause of pseudotumor cerebri.19.
