Mechanisms of testicular thermoregulation, the relationship of scrotal, testicular vascular cone (TVC), and testicular morphology with thermoregulatory capability, and their effects on semen quality and sperm production were studied in 20 Bos indicus, 28 crossbred, and 26 Bos taurus bulls. The ratio of testicular artery length and volume to testicular volume were larger (P<0.05) in B. indicus and crossbred bulls than in B. taurus bulls (1.03 and 0.94 cm/cm3 versus 0.48 cm/cm3; 0.034 and 0.047 ml/cm3 versus 0.017 ml/cm3, respectively). Testicular artery wall thickness (average 192.5, 229.0, and 290.0 microm, respectively) and arterial-venous blood distance in the TVC (average 330.5, 373.7, and 609.4 microm, respectively) were smallest in B. indicus, intermediary in crossbred, and greatest in B. taurus bulls (P<0.05); the proximity between arterial and venous blood was consistent with the estimated decrease in arterial blood temperature after passage through the TVC (5.9, 5.0, and 2.9 degrees C, in B. indicus, crossbred, and B. taurus bulls, respectively). In crossbred and B. taurus bulls, there was a positive top-to-bottom scrotal temperature gradient and a negative testicular subtunic temperature gradient. However, in B. indicus bulls, both scrotal and testicular subtunic temperatures gradients were positive. Differences in the vascular arrangement, characteristics of the artery (e.g. wall thickness) or thickness of the tunica albuginea may have affected the testicular arterial blood and subtunic temperatures in B. indicus bulls. Better testicular thermoregulatory capability was associated with increased scrotal shape (pendulosity), testicular artery length and volume, and top-to-bottom gradient of the distance between the artery wall and the veins in the TVC. Increased semen quality was associated with increased testicular volume and scrotal subcutaneous (SQT) temperature gradient, and with decreased scrotal surface and testicular temperatures. Increased sperm production was associated with increased testicular artery volume, testicular volume, and SQT temperature gradient, and with decreased testicular artery wall thickness, scrotal circumference (SC), and scrotal surface, testicular subtunic, and epididymal temperatures. In conclusion, morphology of the TVC may contribute to the greater resistance of B. indicus bulls to high ambient temperatures by conferring a better testicular blood supply and by facilitating heat transfer between the testicular artery and veins. Testicular thermoregulation was associated with opposing scrotal and testicular subtunic temperatures gradients only in crossbred and B. taurus bulls. Scrotal, TVC, and testicular morphology influence testicular thermoregulatory capability and were associated with differences in semen quality and sperm production.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the potential use of color Doppler ultrasound to characterize blood flow to the stallion testis, and to establish reference values for Doppler measures of blood flow in the testicular artery of the stallion. Both testes from each of 52 horses were examined using a pulsed-wave color Doppler ultrasound with a sector array 5/7.5 MHz transducer with a 1mm gate setting. Peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV), resistive index (RI), and pulsatility index (PI) of the testicular artery were measured in each of two locations, the convoluted aspect (spermatic cord) and the marginal aspect of the artery (on the epididymal edge of testis). We found that: (1) all measures were obtainable; (2) except for EDV, the majority of the measures were higher at the cord location than at the marginal aspect of the artery (P < 0.05); and (3) measures for left and right testes were similar (P > 0.10). Resulting measures from 41 of these stallions (82 testes) that appeared free of testicular pathology provide useful reference values for clinical evaluation. Evaluation of 11 cases with testicular pathology suggested further investigation of possible effects of these various conditions on testicular blood flow and testicular function.  相似文献

We described the topography and morphometry of the testicular artery, pampiniform plexus veins, and indirect connections between them in the spermatic cord of the bull. Sixty microcorrosive casts of bovine spermatic cords were analyzed macroscopically, by stereomicroscopy, and by scanning electron microscopy. The average size of the testicles was 94.6 × 49.7 × 54.7 mm. The testicular artery formed a superiorly pointed cone‐like structure with its base fixed to the proximal part of the gonad. The artery gave off one or two branches to the head of epididymis and to the deferens duct. The pampiniform plexus originated from intra‐tunical veins. Veins of the pampiniform plexus were of smaller diameter but larger number than intra‐tunical ones. The density of the veins of the pampiniform plexus was 9.37 ± 1.07 mm?2. The testicular vein began 90–121 mm above the superior pole of the testis. In 2.9% of specimens, the testicular vein was doubled. Numerous anastomoses among veins of pampiniform plexus were observed. Additionally, indirect anastomoses between the testicular artery and pampiniform plexus veins formed by the capillary network of the vasa vasorum of the testicular artery were visualized by scanning electron microscopy. In all cases, narrowings in the casts of the precapillary vessel were observed. We also documented the vasa vasorum of the testicular artery in bulls. The density of these vessels was 22.87 ± 11.48 mm?2. The indirect arteriovenous connections together with the presence of circular constrictions of the lumen in precapillary vessels may play a role in testicular blood flow regulation. J. The use of ultrasonography as a noninvasive tool for assessing the reproductive status of the male Yangtze finless porpoise (YFP; Neophocaena phocaenoides asiaeorientalis) was validated by correlating ultrasonographically determined testicular volume (TV) and testicular parenchyma pixel intensity (PI) with serum testosterone (T) concentration. The testes of 13 free-ranging male YFPs from the Tian-e-Zhou Reserve and three captive animals from the Baiji Dolphinarium (Wuhan, China) were examined ultrasonographically during April 2008. Testis volume was determined using Lambert's formula for an ellipsoid. Testicular parenchyma PI was evaluated by analyzing testicular ultrasonograms using pixel analysis software (Image J). Serum T concentrations were determined using a single-antibody radioimmunoassay. The TV, PI, and serum T concentration were low and similar in animals with body length <133 cm, highest in those with body length ≥142 cm, and highly variable in those with body length from 133 to 141 cm. Both TV and PI were closely correlated with serum T concentration (r = 0.91 and r = 0.85, respectively; P < 0.01), indicating a consistent association between structural and functional development of the testis. In conclusion, we inferred that puberty onset in male YFPs occurred when TV was >150 cm3 and PI was >60 during the breeding season and that testicular ultrasonography and pixel analysis was an efficient, noninvasive, real-time tool to evaluate testicular function of live male YFPs.  相似文献

The objectives of the present study were to determine changes with age and relationships among characteristics of the testicular artery, scrotal surface temperature, scrotal circumference, testicular consistency, seminal quality and sperm production. Beef bulls aged 6 mo (n=12), 1 yr (n=12), 2 yr (n=11), and 3 yr (n=12) were used in this study. The mean length of the testicular artery as well as the length, width, and surface area of a latex cast of the testicular artery all increased between 6 mo and 1 yr of age (P<0.01). Wall thickness of the testicular artery and testicular arterial-venous distance in the spermatic cord decreased with age and with proximity to the testicle (P<0.01). Distance from the testicular vascular cone to the inner surface of the skin at the top of the scrotal neck (primarily fat) increased between 1 and 3 yr of age (P<0.01), and was associated with an increased top scrotal surface temperature (P<0.09). Increased epididymal sperm reserves were associated with an increase in testicular consistency, scrotal circumference and scrotal surface temperature gradient, and with a decrease in testicular arterial wall thickness and testicular vascular cone to skin distance. A decrease in sperm defects was associated with an increase in testicular consistency and with a decrease in the average scrotal surface temperature. Increased sperm motility was associated with increased scrotal circumference and a decreased top testicular vascular cone to skin distance. These findings emphasize the importance of thermoregulation to sperm production and seminal quality.  相似文献

The baculum in Arctocephalus p. pusillus reaches up to 14.1 cm in length, 13.5 g in mass, and 1.3 g/cm in density (= mass/length). A pubertal growth spurt occurs between 2 and 3 yr of age, when bacular length increases by 28%, mass by 124%, and density by 77%; concurrently, body length increases by 14%. A second, weaker spurt occurs at social maturity (9-10 yr of age). Testes grow most rapidly between 1 and 2 yr of age, when testicular length increases by 29%. After 3 yr of age, growth in bacular and testicular length slows, and bacular mass continues to increase approximately linearly. Bacular and testicular lengths average 6.8% and 3.4% (respectively) of body length in adults, compared with 9.9% and 5.7% in the promiscuous harp seal ( Pagophilus groenlandicus ). Bacular length, mass, and density, and testicular length, are positively allometric to body length over growth; bacular length is isometric to testicular length. Among animals of the same age, bacular length and mass are positively allometric to body length in young animals, with negative allometry or isometry thereafter; testicular length is isometric to body length in young animals and negatively allometric thereafter. Patterns of early growth and allometry of the baculum and testes are interpreted as adaptations for mating opportunities, years before territoriality is possible. The baculum and testes of adult Cape fur seals and other otariids are small compared with those of most phocids, because sperm competition among male otariids is weak.  相似文献

This study was conducted to quantify the relationships between in vivo measurements of testicular and seminal vesicle size and post mortem size of these organs in 30 Santa Gertrudis bulls. The in vivo measurements of testicles were obtained by transrectal ultrasonography and palpation per rectum, while scrotal circumference was measured by scrotal tape. Linear post mortem dimensions were obtained by direct measurements of the excised organs. Volume was assessed by water displacement while the testicles were weighed. Seminal vesicle length, determined by palpation, had the highest correlation with post mortem measurements (r = 0.70; P = 0.0001). Accurate estimation of the thickness of the vesicles (1.47 vs 1.55 cm for in vivo and post mortem, respectively) was performed by ultrasonograph. Of all seminal vesicle linear measurements, width had the highest correlations with volume measured by water displacement (r = 0.67; P = 0.0001 and r = 0.38; P = 0.04 for post mortem and in vivo, respectively). Testicular diameter was accurately measured by ultrasonography (5.54 vs 4.58 cm in vivo and post mortem, respectively) and was highly correlated (range r = 0.84 to 0.89; P = 0.0001) with post mortem measurements of testicular volume, weight and circumference. The correlation between scrotal circumference and diameter of the testicle was 0.75 (P = 0.0001). The correlations of testicular diameter measured by ultrasound with the post mortem measurements of testicular weight and circumference were similar to the correlations between scrotal circumference and those 2 post mortem measurements. We conclude that palpation of vesicle length is highly correlated with volume of the seminal vesicle in situ. Individual linear measurements do not seem to be an accurate predictor of the relativ size of the seminal vesicle. Furthermore, ultrasonography does not seem to be a more accurate measure of testicular size than scrotal circumference for evaluation of breeding soundness.  相似文献

The potential extension of the galeal flap in the interparietal area was studied on 17 fresh human cadaver heads by intravascular dye injection technique. It was demonstrated that an ipsilateral superficial temporal artery that supplies the galeal flap does not cross the midline or anastomose with the contralateral superficial temporal artery but ensures the survival of a flap extended up to 1 cm proximal to the sagittal suture line. The width of the temporoparietal flap can be extended up to 15 cm, depending on the vascular pattern of the superficial temporal artery. When required, the lateral extension may provide the required soft-tissue bulk despite the reduced flap length.  相似文献

The size of the testicle (absolute weight, relative weight as the index X, length, and width was measured in 142 late patients aged 17 to 87 a (mean age = 54 a) serving as controls, in 193 deceased patients aged 20 to 81 a (mean age = 47 a) with a history of alcoholism, and in 136 defunct patients aged 30 to 92 a (mean age = 59 a) with cirrhosis. A significant difference in the mean size of the testicles was demonstrated between the cirrhosis group and both the control and alcoholism groups. No statistically significant differences was observed between the control group and the alcoholism group. The degree of acute alcoholic intoxication has no significant effect on the degree of testicular atrophy. Chronic alcoholism exerted a more significant effect on the degree of testicular atrophy than acute alcoholism. Coexistent cirrhosis increased this difference even more. The type of cirrhosis and the degree of its inflammatory activity had no significant influence on the testicular size. Such effect was demonstrated, however, if diffuse fatty infiltration of the cirrhotic liver was present. In the biomorphosis, the greatest mean testicular size was observed in the 4th and 5th decade of life. From the 6th decade on, the testicular size decreased statistically significantly. The curve of the values of the mean testicular size in alcoholism was more flat than in the control group and was situated below it. No statistically significant differences among the values of the testicular size in this curve were found. The testicular size curve in cirrhosis was below both these curves, and a statistically significant difference was found between the 7th and the 9th decades. The mean weight of the testicules in controls, alcoholics, and patients with cirrhosis was 17.58, 16.49, and 13.25 g, respectively, the mean volume was 16.37, 15.34, and 12.21 ml, respectively, the value of the index X was 2.47, 2.52, and 1.97, respectively, the testicular length was 5.05, 4.08, and 3.61 cm, respectively, the width was 2.93, 2.87, and 2.70 cm, respectively.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the contribution of the scrotum, testes, and the testicular artery to scrotal/testicular thermoregulation in bulls at two ambient temperatures. Crossbred beef bulls, 1.5 years of age, were placed in controlled environment chambers at ambient temperatures of 15°C (n = 5) or 25°C (n = 6). The distal lateral aspects and entire ventral part of the scrotum was incised under caudal epidural anaesthesia (xylazine, 0.07 mg kg−1). Both testes were withdrawn from the scrotum and then replaced and maintained by clamping the scrotal incisions with towel clamps. One testis was randomly chosen to be the exposed testis and was withdrawn prior to temperature measurements. Surface and internal temperatures were measured with infrared thermography and needle thermocouples, respectively. Temperature gradients (°C; difference in temperature from top to bottom at 15 and at 25°C) were: scrotal surface (with testis), 1.5 and 1.3; scrotal surface (without testis), 2.1 and 1.6; surface of exposed testis, −0.6 and 0.0; sub-tunic of exposed testis, −2.2 and −0.6; intratesticular (covered testis), 0.0 and 0.4; and intratesticular (exposed testis), −1.3 and 0.4. The scrotum markedly affects testicular temperature but the testes have limited influence on scrotal surface temperature. The bovine scrotum and testes have opposing temperature gradients that complement one another, resulting in a relatively uniform intratesticular temperature. These temperature gradients are attributed in part to the testicular artery, which goes from the top of the testis to the bottom, divides into several branches and ramifies dorsally and laterally before entering the testicular parenchyma. Intra-arterial temperatures (measured with needle thermocouples) were lower (P < 0.05) where the artery entered the testis than at both the bottom and top of the testis for both the covered (31.7, 33.4 and 34.3°C) and exposed testis (29.6, 32.0 and 32.5°C) at an ambient temperature of 15°C. Temperature differences were similar, but less pronounced, at 25°C (covered testis, 34.8, 36.3 and 36.5°C; exposed testis, 32.4, 33.5, 33.9°C). Results supported the hypothesis that blood within the testicular artery has a similar temperature at the top of the testis (just ventral to the testicular vascular cone) compared with the bottom, but subsequently cools before entering the testicular parenchyma.  相似文献

Cyclic Protein-2 (CP-2) is synthesized in a stage-specific manner by mature rat Sertoli cells within stage VI and VII seminiferous tubules. To determine how testicular maturation affects CP-2 synthesis, we cultured 20 cm of tubules encompassing all stages of the cycle from rats 17, 35, 45, and 75 days old. The greatest increase in CP-2 synthesis was found to occur between 35 and 45 days and exceeded that observed for transferrin and sulfated glycoprotein (SGP)-2. Additionally, two-dimensional gel analysis indicated that secretion of CP-2 increased from 35 to 45 days to a greater extent than the secretion of SGP-1 and SGP-2 and transferrin. Biochemical analysis also demonstrated that CP-2 synthesis was stage-specific by 45 days. Immunocytochemistry expanded these observations; CP-2 was not detected in 7-35-day-old Sertoli cells. However, at 36 days, CP-2 was detected in Sertoli cells in stage VI and VII tubules but not at any other stage. CP-2 concentration in stage VI-VII tubules was increased by 38 days, but was unchanged thereafter. Finally, we immunocytochemically examined age-related changes in CP-2 concentration of the proximal convoluted kidney tubule. This analysis revealed that, at 1 wk, CP-2 was present in all proximal tubules except those in the subcapsular area; however, by 14 days, CP-2 was detected in all proximal tubules. This comparison of Sertoli cells and proximal tubule cells indicates that CP-2 content is determined by the maturity of a cell and not by the age of the animal.  相似文献

The three-dimensional microvascular anatomy of the testes of adult Xenopus laevis was studied by scanning electron microscopy of vascular corrosion casts. Results showed that testicular arteries branch off from urogenital arteries and approach the testes via the mesorchium. At the dorsal surface of testes, arteries course towards the medial and lateral surfaces of the ovoid testes, pierce the tunica albuginea and run in the subalbugineal space and then penetrate the testicular parenchyma. In the parenchyma, they branch in all directions. At sites where larger branches arise, sphincters are present. Intimal cushions are found at the origin of smaller branches. Terminal arterioles capillarize and form a wide-meshed capillary network around convoluted seminiferous tubules. Inter- and peritubular capillaries cannot be differentiated reliably. Arterio-venous transition distances are short. Arterio-arterial anastomoses and veno-venous anastomoses are present. Testicular venules empty into a venous subalbugineal plexus which shows veno-venous anastomoses of different lengths and calibres. Signs of the ongoing non-sprouting angiogenesis, particularly intussusceptive branch remodelling, reflect the dynamics of the testicular parenchyma. The present study is the first that demonstrates the testicular microvascular anatomy in an anuran species and shows that X. laevis and men share the intricate convoluted seminiferous tubules with associated vascular patterns as a feature in common.  相似文献

Scrotal circumference, testicular length and body weight were measured in 3,090 yearling bulls of 12 breed groups finishing growth performance tests during a 5 yr period. Breeds were Limousin, Hereford, Charolais, Angus, Red Poll, Simmental, Pinzgauer, Brown Swiss, Gelbvieh and three crossbred breed groups. All bulls were born during a 60-d calving season starting in late March of each year and were subjected to similar management and environmental influences during the study. The bulls were the progeny of 307 sires averaging approximately 26 sires per breed group and 10 sons per sire. Breed group, sire within breed group, year and age-of-dam effects were important (P<0.01) for all testicular traits at both a constant age (354 d) and constant body weight (418 kg). Paternal half-sib estimates of heritability were 0.41 +/- 0.06 for ageconstant scrotal circumference, 0.34 +/- 0.06 for testicular length and 0.37 +/- 0.06 for calculated paired testicular volume, respectively. Age-constant genetic correlations between yearling body weight and testicular traits were small, indicating that testicular growth and body growth rates are largely independent, regardless of breed. Testicular size of bulls from 2-yr-old dams was smaller than that of bulls from older dams. Most of these age-of-dam effects on testicular size were removed when testicular size was adjusted for the effects of body weight, suggesting that age-of-dam effects on testicular size are primarily the result of age-of-dam effects on body weight. Age adjustment factors for yearling scrotal circumference did not differ (P>0.20) among breed groups and averaged 0.032 cm per day of age. Adjustment factors for age of dam were +1.3, +0.8, +0.4, and +0.0 cm for sons of 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-yr-old dams, respectively.  相似文献

Testicular development in the viviparous fish, Anableps dowi, is described from embryonic stages through sexual maturation and is correlated with development of the gonadotropic zone of the pituitary. Only isolated spermatogonia or cysts of early spermatogonia are found in embryos 1.8 to 4.4 cm in length and postnatal specimens 5.4 to 8.8 cm in length. Cysts with more advanced spermatogonia are seen in specimens from 7.9 to 10.8 cm in length. Spermatogenetic meioses are first observed in a 10.2 cm male. Specimens greater than 12.0 cm have mature spermatozoa (partial spermatozeugmata) within the main testicular ducts, indicating gonadal maturation. The morphological transformation of the anal fin into the intromittent gonopodium is also described, using both whole and cleared specimens. Even in the smallest postnatal male available (5.4 cm), the anal fin can be distinguished from that of an equivalent sized female. Anal fin changes proceed until the mature gonopodium is developed, when body lengths greater than 16 cm are reached. Testicular maturation, defined as the presence of partial spermatozeugmata in the main testicular ducts, precedes the completion of gonopodial development. Measurements of ventral gonadotropic zone area in pituitary mid-sagittal sections show a continuous increase from neonatal through sexually mature specimens. The results point to a role for testicular androgens in early testis development.  相似文献

Blood flow to the testis, haemoglobin oxygen saturation and testosterone concentration in arterial and venous testicular blood vessels were studied in Texel rams in the breeding and non-breeding season. Blood flow in the proximal and distal testicular artery was measured electromagnetically. The mean flow in the proximal testicular artery was 18.5 ml/min and in the distal testicular artery 7.5 ml/min, and there was no detectable seasonal influence. Haemoglobin oxygen saturation and testosterone concentration were measured in the saphenous artery and vein, the distal testicular artery and vein, and in the proximal testicular vein. The haemoglobin oxygen saturation in the proximal testicular vein was significantly higher than in the distal testicular vein in both seasons. The mean testosterone concentration was significantly lower in the proximal testicular vein than in the distal testicular vein in both seasons. Based on haemoglobin oxygen saturation and testosterone data, it was calculated that between 28 and 46% of the testicular arterial blood was bypassing the testis and was directly flowing through arterio-venous anastomoses towards the pampiniform plexus in the spermatic cord of conscious rams. In anaesthetized rams 55 and 64% of the blood was flowing directly from the testicular artery to the pampiniform plexus based on blood flow data. Transfer of testosterone and oxygen by passive diffusion from the testicular artery to the pampiniform plexus and vice versa in the spermatic cord was not detected.  相似文献

The ducts associated with sperm transport from the testicular lobules to the Wolffian ducts in Ambystoma maculatum were examined with transmission electron microscopy. Based on the ultrastructure and historical precedence, new terminology for this network of ducts is proposed that better represents primary hypotheses of homology. Furthermore, the terminology proposed better characterizes the distinct regions of the sperm transport ducts in salamanders based on anatomy and should, therefore, lead to more accurate comparisons in the future. While developing the above ontology, we also tested the hypothesis that nephrons from the genital kidney are modified from those of the pelvic kidney due to the fact that the former nephrons function in sperm transport. Our ultrastructural analysis of the genital kidney supports this hypothesis, as the basal plasma membrane of distinct functional regions of the nephron (proximal convoluted tubule, distal convoluted tubule, and collecting tubule) appear less folded (indicating decreased surface area and reduced reabsorption efficiency) and the proximal convoluted tubule possesses ciliated epithelial cells along its entire length. Furthermore, visible luminal filtrate is absent from the nephrons of the genital kidney throughout their entire length. Thus, it appears that the nephrons of the genital kidney have reduced reabsorptive capacity and ciliated cells of the proximal convoluted tubule may increase the movement of immature sperm through the sperm transport ducts or aid in the mixing of seminal fluids within the ducts. © J. This laboratory has previously described an in vitro preparation showing that the isolated testicular subcapsular artery of the adult rat has a novel triphasic transmural pressure-diameter myogenic response curve consisting of vasodilatation from 20 to 40 mm Hg, vasoconstriction from 40 to 100 mm Hg, and vasodilatation from 100 to 180 mm Hg, suggesting that the myogenic response of this artery between 40 and 100 mm Hg may have an important role in the autoregulation of the testicular blood supply. In the present studies, a 10-mm length of the adult rat isolated testicular subcapsular artery was cannulated and pressurized by an adjustable-height reservoir. External and internal arterial diameters were measured by a digital filar micrometer eyepiece. Dose-response curves for norepinephrine and serotonin were generated in a double-bath artery chamber at transmural pressures of 70 and 140 mm Hg, using half of the same artery for each pressure. Norepinephrine (3 x 10(-8) to 1 x 10(-5) M) produced a dose-dependent vasoconstriction at 70 mm Hg, with the highest dose causing a 31.4% decrease in lumen cross-sectional area (p < 0.05). Serotonin (3 x 10(-8) to 1 x 10(-6) M) produced a stronger dose-dependent vasoconstriction at 70 mm Hg, with the highest dose causing a 72.7% decrease in lumen cross-sectional area (p < 0.05). The biased unilateral occurrence of heritable gonadal hypoplasia was investigated by examining the gross- and microanatomy of the testicular artery and vein, testicular blood flow and testicular testosterone secretion in normal Nguni bulls and in Nguni bulls showing unilateral left, unilateral right and bilateral hypoplasia of the testis. A high incidence of branching of the testicular artery was found ipsilateral to hypoplastic testes. The branching occurs a short distance from the dorsal aorta: one branch proceeds to the testis, the other to the ipsilateral kidney. The association between arterial branching to the kidney and ipsilateral hypoplasia of the testis held for both unilaterally left and unilaterally right hypoplastic bulls. Variations in the anatomy of the testicular vein occurred in both normal and hypoplastic bulls but there was no specific association between the variations and ipsilateral hypoplasia. The lumen diameter of the testicular artery or branch correlated with testis mass. Wall thickness of the artery ipsilateral to hypoplastic testes was not different from that in normal bulls, discounting hyperplasia of the endothelium. Total blood flow to the testis correlated with testis mass. The secretion rate of testosterone from hypoplastic testes was lower than that of normal testes but there was no difference when compared on a unit mass basis.  相似文献

We have previously shown that neonate rabbit tubules have a lower chloride permeability but comparable mannitol permeability compared with adult proximal tubules. The surprising finding of lower chloride permeability in neonate proximals compared with adults impacts net chloride transport in this segment, which reabsorbs 60% of the filtered chloride in adults. However, this maturational difference in chloride permeability may not be applicable to other species. The present in vitro microperfusion study directly examined the chloride and mannitol permeability using in vitro perfused rat proximal tubules during postnatal maturation. Whereas there was no maturational change in mannitol permeability, chloride permeability was 6.3 +/- 1.3 x 10(-5) cm/s in neonate rat proximal convoluted tubule and 16.1 +/- 2.3 x 10(-5) cm/s in adult rat proximal convoluted tubule (P < 0.01). There was also a maturational increase in chloride permeability in the rat proximal straight tubule (5.1 +/- 0.6 x 10(-5) cm/s vs. 9.3 +/- 0.6 x 10(-5) cm/s, P < 0.01). There was no maturational change in bicarbonate-to-chloride permeabilities (P(HCO3)/P(Cl)) in the rat proximal straight tubules (PST) and proximal convoluted tubules (PCT) or in the sodium-to-chloride permeability (P(Na)/P(Cl)) in the proximal straight tubule; however, there was a significant maturational decrease in proximal convoluted tubule P(Na)/P(Cl) with postnatal development (1.31 +/- 0.12 in neonates vs. 0.75 +/- 0.06 in adults, P < 0.001). There was no difference in the transepithelial resistance measured by current injection and cable analysis in the PCT, but there was a maturational decrease in the PST (7.2 +/- 0.8 vs. 4.6 +/- 0.1 ohms x cm2, P < 0.05). These studies demonstrate there are maturational changes in the rat paracellular pathway that impact net NaCl transport during development.  相似文献

Gonads of Eleginops maclovinus (Cuv. & Val., 1830) from the Beagle Channel (Tierra del Fuego, Argentina) were sampled weekly throughout the year and histologically analysed. Gonads containing solely or mostly testicular tissue were predominant in each length class smaller than 40 cm (80 to 100%). Sex ratio was almost 1:1 in fishes ranging from 41 to 45cm. Females were dominant in specimens larger than 46cm (80 to 100%). Four testicular types are described according to maturation degree and absence or presence of female cells, one intermediate gonadal type and one typical ovarian type. It is concluded that this species is a protandrous hermaphrodite.  相似文献
