Realistic rendering techniques of outdoor Augmented Reality (AR) has been an attractive topic since the last two decades considering the sizeable amount of publications in computer graphics. Realistic virtual objects in outdoor rendering AR systems require sophisticated effects such as: shadows, daylight and interactions between sky colours and virtual as well as real objects. A few realistic rendering techniques have been designed to overcome this obstacle, most of which are related to non real-time rendering. However, the problem still remains, especially in outdoor rendering. This paper proposed a much newer, unique technique to achieve realistic real-time outdoor rendering, while taking into account the interaction between sky colours and objects in AR systems with respect to shadows in any specific location, date and time. This approach involves three main phases, which cover different outdoor AR rendering requirements. Firstly, sky colour was generated with respect to the position of the sun. Second step involves the shadow generation algorithm, Z-Partitioning: Gaussian and Fog Shadow Maps (Z-GaF Shadow Maps). Lastly, a technique to integrate sky colours and shadows through its effects on virtual objects in the AR system, is introduced. The experimental results reveal that the proposed technique has significantly improved the realism of real-time outdoor AR rendering, thus solving the problem of realistic AR systems.  相似文献

An algorithm for accurate rendering of space-filling molecular models with shadows is presented. The intensity of light and cast shadows are computed to generate realistic pictures. Arbitrary numbers of light sources, which may be at infinite or finite distances can be applied. Hidden-surface removal, lighting, and shadowing are presented in detail.  相似文献

The real-time texture mapping capabilities of modern graphics workstations are explored with respect to their applications in a variety of relevant scenarios in interactive molecular modeling techniques. The common usage of texture mapping to reduce geometric complexity while enhancing realism is extended, opening new ways to visualize large amounts of molecular data in a comprehensive fashion. Thus, texture mapping may be employed to (1) display and filter multichannel information of structural properties on molecular surfaces, (2) improve the quality and accuracy of highly complex isodensity contours, (3) increase the rendering speed of space-filling atomic representations by two orders of magnitude and (4) apply volume-rendering techniques to large, three-dimensional density distributions in real time. Implementation of these novel techniques requires only moderate modifications or extensions to existing molecular modeling applications.  相似文献

Recent advances in experimental structure determination provide a wealth of structural data on huge macromolecular assemblies such as the ribosome or viral capsids, available in public databases. Further structural models arise from reconstructions using symmetry orders or fitting crystal structures into low-resolution maps obtained by electron-microscopy or small angle X-ray scattering experiments. Visual inspection of these huge structures remains an important way of unravelling some of their secrets. However, such visualization cannot conveniently be carried out using conventional rendering approaches, either due to performance limitations or due to lack of realism. Recent developments, in particular drawing benefit from the capabilities of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), herald the next generation of molecular visualization solutions addressing these issues. In this article, we present advances in computer science and visualization that help biologists visualize, understand and manipulate large and complex molecular systems, introducing concepts that remain little-known in the bioinformatics field. Furthermore, we compile currently available software and methods enhancing the shape perception of such macromolecular assemblies, for example based on surface simplification or lighting ameliorations.  相似文献

Insect attraction to artificial light can potentially facilitate disease transmission by increasing contact between humans and vectors. Previous research has identified specific wavelength bands, such as yellow and red, that are unattractive to biting flies. However, narrow-band, non-white lights are unsuitable for home lighting use as their very poor color rendering is often considered aesthetically undesirable. The creation of a white light that is unattractive to insects has so far remained elusive. White light can be created by combining a number of narrow-band light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Through choice chamber experiments on Culex pipiens (Cx. pipiens) mosquitoes, we examine whether combining specific wavelength bands has an additive, subtractive or synergistic effect on insect attraction. We show that a white light created by combining narrow-band red, green and blue (RGB) LEDs is less attractive to Cx. pipiens than a broad-spectrum white light; and that a white light created by combining narrow-band blue and yellow LEDs is more attractive than a broad-spectrum white light. White light produced by RGB combinations could therefore serve as a safer and cheaper light in countries where phototactic vectors and vector-borne disease are endemic.  相似文献

We investigated how ecological realism might impact the outcome of three experimental manipulations of species richness to determine whether the patterns and the mechanisms underlying richness–variability relationships differ as ecological communities are increasingly exposed to external forces that may drive richness–variability patterns in nature. To test for such an effect, we conducted experiments using rock pool meio‐invertebrate communities housed in three experimental venues: controlled laboratory microcosms, artificially constructed rock pools in the field, and naturally occurring rock pools in the field. Our results showed that experimental venue can have a strong effect on the outcome of richness manipulation experiments. As ecological realism increased, the strength of the relationship between species richness and community variability declined from 32.9% in the laboratory microcosms to 16.8% in the artificial pools to no effect of species richness on community variability in the natural rock pools. The determinants of community variability also differed as ecological realism increased. In laboratory microcosms, community variability was driven solely by mechanisms related to increasing species richness. In artificial rock pools, community variability was driven by a combination of direct and indirect environmental factors as well as mechanisms related to increasing species richness. In the natural rock pools community variability was independent of species richness and was only related to environmental factors. In summary, we found that stabilizing mechanisms associated with species interactions were influential in establishing species richness–variability relations only in the less realistic experimental venues (the laboratory microcosms and the artificial rock pools in the field), and that these mechanisms diminished in importance as ecological realism and complexity of the experimental venue increased. Our results suggest that the effects of diversity might be more difficult to detect in natural systems due to the combined effects of biotic and abiotic forcing, which can mask our ability to detect richness effects.  相似文献

MCRT (YPFPFRTic-NH2) is a chimeric opioid peptide based on morphiceptin and PFRTic-NH2. In order to assess the cardiovascular effect of MCRT, it was administered by intravenous (i.v.) injection targeting at the peripheral nervous system and by intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) injection targeting at the central nervous system. Naloxone and l-NAME were injected before MCRT to investigate possible interactions with MCRT. Results show that administration of MCRT by i.v. or i.c.v. injection could induce bradycardia and decrease in mean arterial pressure (MAP) at a greater degree than that with morphiceptin and PFRTic-NH2. When MCRT and NPFF were coinjected, we observed a dose-dependent weakening of these cardiovascular effects by MCRT. Because naloxone completely abolished the cardiovascular effects of MCRT, we conclude that opioid receptors are involved in regulating the MAP of MCRT regardless of modes of injection. The effect of MCRT on heart rate is completely dependent on opioid receptors when MCRT was administered by i.c.v. instead of i.v. The central nitric oxide (NO) pathway is involved in regulating blood pressure by MCRT under both modes of injection, but the peripheral NO pathway had no effect on lowering blood pressure mediated by MCRT when it was administered by i.c.v. Based on the results from different modes of injection, the regulation of heart rate by MCRT mainly involves in the central NO pathway. Lastly, we observed that the cardiovascular effects of MCRT such as bradycardia and decrease of blood pressure, were stronger than that of its parent peptides. Opioid receptors and the NO pathway are involved in the cardiovascular regulation by MCRT, and their degree of involvement differs between intravenous and intracerebroventricular injection.  相似文献

The application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in the agricultural industry is becoming ever more important. Over the years, the versatility, accuracy and user-friendliness offered by CFD has led to its increased take-up by the agricultural engineering community. Now CFD is regularly employed to solve environmental problems of greenhouses and animal production facilities. However, due to a combination of increased computer efficacy and advanced numerical techniques, the realism of these simulations has only been enhanced in recent years. This study provides a state-of-the-art review of CFD, its current applications in the design of ventilation systems for agricultural production systems, and the outstanding challenging issues that confront CFD modellers. The current status of greenhouse CFD modelling was found to be at a higher standard than that of animal housing, owing to the incorporation of user-defined routines that simulate crop biological responses as a function of local environmental conditions. Nevertheless, the most recent animal housing simulations have addressed this issue and in turn have become more physically realistic.  相似文献

Direct volume rendering of large and unstructured datasets demands high computational power and memory bandwidth. Developing an efficient parallel algorithm requires a deep understanding of the bottlenecks involved in the solutions for this problem. In this work, we make a thorough analysis of the overhead components involved in parallel volume raycasting of unstructured grids for high-resolution images on distributed environments. This evaluation has revealed potential opportunities for performance improvements. The result is a novel approach to distributed memory raycasting that includes different acceleration techniques to enhance ray distribution, face projection, memory locality, and message exchanging, while maintaining load balance. We report the gains achieved in each phase and in the complete parallel algorithm when compared with a conventional approach.  相似文献

Diffusion Weighted (DW) MRI allows for the non-invasive study of water diffusion inside living tissues. As such, it is useful for the investigation of human brain white matter (WM) connectivity in vivo through fiber tractography (FT) algorithms. Many DW-MRI tailored restoration techniques and FT algorithms have been developed. However, it is not clear how accurately these methods reproduce the WM bundle characteristics in real-world conditions, such as in the presence of noise, partial volume effect, and a limited spatial and angular resolution. The difficulty lies in the lack of a realistic brain phantom on the one hand, and a sufficiently accurate way of modeling the acquisition-related degradation on the other. This paper proposes a software phantom that approximates a human brain to a high degree of realism and that can incorporate complex brain-like structural features. We refer to it as a Diffusion BRAIN (D-BRAIN) phantom. Also, we propose an accurate model of a (DW) MRI acquisition protocol to allow for validation of methods in realistic conditions with data imperfections. The phantom model simulates anatomical and diffusion properties for multiple brain tissue components, and can serve as a ground-truth to evaluate FT algorithms, among others. The simulation of the acquisition process allows one to include noise, partial volume effects, and limited spatial and angular resolution in the images. In this way, the effect of image artifacts on, for instance, fiber tractography can be investigated with great detail. The proposed framework enables reliable and quantitative evaluation of DW-MR image processing and FT algorithms at the level of large-scale WM structures. The effect of noise levels and other data characteristics on cortico-cortical connectivity and tractography-based grey matter parcellation can be investigated as well.  相似文献

Optimal fishery policy has been derived using several different models of varying biological realism. Policy has either been assumed to be non-time-varying and static optimization techniques have been applied or dynamic techniques have been used and have in some cases resulted in constant policy. Botsford (1981) showed by applying dynamic optimization techniques to several biologically realistic models (i.e. models that included size structure and either density or food dependent growth and recruitment rates) that the constant policy solution found for simpler, less realistic models was not possible. He concluded that optimal policy was a time-varying, possibly pulse-fishing policy. We show here that when the maximum allowed fishing mortality is low enough a different kind of constant policy is optimal for these realistic models. Interpretation of this condition requires explicit consideration of fixed capital costs in addition to operating costs. Practical considerations indicate that this constant policy would apply only to fisheries with high fixed capital costs.  相似文献

Advances in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) for high-resolution imaging of biomolecules in solution have provided new challenges and opportunities for algorithm development for 3D reconstruction. Next-generation volume reconstruction algorithms that combine generative modelling with end-to-end unsupervised deep learning techniques have shown promise, but many technical and theoretical hurdles remain, especially when applied to experimental cryo-EM images. In light of the proliferation of such methods, we propose here a critical review of recent advances in the field of deep generative modelling for cryo-EM reconstruction. The present review aims to (i) provide a unified statistical framework using terminology familiar to machine learning researchers with no specific background in cryo-EM, (ii) review the current methods in this framework, and (iii) outline outstanding bottlenecks and avenues for improvements in the field.  相似文献

The ecological impacts of nighttime light pollution have been a longstanding source of concern, accentuated by realized and projected growth in electrical lighting. As human communities and lighting technologies develop, artificial light increasingly modifies natural light regimes by encroaching on dark refuges in space, in time, and across wavelengths. A wide variety of ecological implications of artificial light have been identified. However, the primary research to date is largely focused on the disruptive influence of nighttime light on higher vertebrates, and while comprehensive reviews have been compiled along taxonomic lines and within specific research domains, the subject is in need of synthesis within a common mechanistic framework. Here we propose such a framework that focuses on the cross‐factoring of the ways in which artificial lighting alters natural light regimes (spatially, temporally, and spectrally), and the ways in which light influences biological systems, particularly the distinction between light as a resource and light as an information source. We review the evidence for each of the combinations of this cross‐factoring. As artificial lighting alters natural patterns of light in space, time and across wavelengths, natural patterns of resource use and information flows may be disrupted, with downstream effects to the structure and function of ecosystems. This review highlights: (i) the potential influence of nighttime lighting at all levels of biological organisation (from cell to ecosystem); (ii) the significant impact that even low levels of nighttime light pollution can have; and (iii) the existence of major research gaps, particularly in terms of the impacts of light at population and ecosystem levels, identification of intensity thresholds, and the spatial extent of impacts in the vicinity of artificial lights.  相似文献

Biological membranes exhibit diversity in their shapes and complexity in chemical compositions that are linked to many cellular functions. These two central features of biomembranes have been the subject of numerous simulation studies, using a diverse range of computational techniques. Currently, the field is able to capture this complexity at increasing levels of realism and connect the microscopic view on protein–lipid interactions to cellular morphologies at the level of entire organelles. Here we highlight recent advances in this topic, identify current bottlenecks, and sketch possible ways ahead.  相似文献

There is increasing concern about the ecological effects of light pollution, as artificial lighting spreads with urban expansion. While artificial lighting can negatively affect some species, others use it in novel ways. In tropical and subtropical regions, artificial lighting has created a novel niche: the ‘night light’ niche. Geckos living as human commensals (house geckos) are apparently well adapted to occupy this niche. In an urban area in north‐eastern Australia, we found that the invasive Asian house gecko Hemidactylus frenatus (Gekkonidae) occupies a broader range of light environments in the field than does the native gecko Gehyra dubia (Gekkonidae). Experimental removal of the invasive species from a building indicated that it did not behaviourally influence the light environments chosen by the native species in the short term; they continued to use darker areas even after the invasive species was removed. In Y‐maze experiments, neither species showed a significant preference for light or dark areas; however, preliminary data suggest the invasive species was more willing to explore the Y‐maze than the native species. The willingness of H. frenatus to forage closer to lights, where insect abundance is typically higher, might account for its success as a global invader of human environments, even in areas where other gecko species are established.  相似文献

The present investigation was undertaken to examine the lighting conditions in a weaving shed and also to assess visual comfort of the weavers and their visual preferences to the lighting levels. A light meter was used for measurement of the illuminances. Comfort vote cards and preference vote cards were administered on almost all the weavers (N = 95). The results indicated that the illumination levels were very low compared to the Indian Standard (1966) or IES standard (1973). A substantial proportion of the weavers had no visual comfort at work and expressed their preferences for higher illumination levels for comfort, safety, and optimum work performance. The results have been discussed and appropriate measures have been suggested for improved lighting in a cost-effective manner.  相似文献

Background

In comparison to more modern imaging methods, conventional light microscopy still offers a range of substantial advantages with regard to contrast options, accessible specimen size, and resolution. Currently, tomographic image data in particular is most commonly visualized in three dimensions using volume rendering. To date, this method has only very rarely been applied to image stacks taken from serial sections, whereas surface rendering is still the most prevalent method for presenting such data sets three-dimensionally. The aim of this study was to develop standard protocols for volume rendering of image stacks of serial sections, while retaining the benefits of light microscopy such as resolution and color information.  相似文献

Ocular light exposure has important influences on human health and well-being through modulation of circadian rhythms and sleep, as well as neuroendocrine and cognitive functions. Prevailing patterns of light exposure do not optimally engage these actions for many individuals, but advances in our understanding of the underpinning mechanisms and emerging lighting technologies now present opportunities to adjust lighting to promote optimal physical and mental health and performance. A newly developed, international standard provides a SI-compliant way of quantifying the influence of light on the intrinsically photosensitive, melanopsin-expressing, retinal neurons that mediate these effects. The present report provides recommendations for lighting, based on an expert scientific consensus and expressed in an easily measured quantity (melanopic equivalent daylight illuminance (melaponic EDI)) defined within this standard. The recommendations are supported by detailed analysis of the sensitivity of human circadian, neuroendocrine, and alerting responses to ocular light and provide a straightforward framework to inform lighting design and practice.

Light exposure influences human health and wellbeing by modulating circadian rhythms and sleep. This Consensus View outlines the first expert scientific consensus recommendations for appropriate daily patterns of light exposure to promote health and wellbeing and inform lighting design and practice.  相似文献

The physical characteristics of the light reflexes of the nasal tip are defined in large part by the studio lighting configuration. By varying the lighting configuration, it is possible to alter the light reflexes as regards their number, distance apart, symmetry, and size. For the plastic surgeon, the quarter light system of the medical photographer has definite advantages over the key light system of the portrait photographer. The quarter light system consists of two lights of equal intensity with symmetrical angles of incidence placed at 45 degrees to the camera-subject axis. Measuring changes in the light reflexes as a method of determining the efficacy of surgical techniques is valid under very controlled conditions.  相似文献
