We here report a new Dasya species found in a landlocked fjord or poll in southwestern Norway; Dasya adela sp. nov. The thallus of this species is small (1–3 cm), normally sparsely branched, and its axes are completely covered with cortex cells. The species is set with long (3–4 mm) and flaccid monosiphonous pseudolaterals, and during autumn it showed high growth of adventitious monosiphonous branches. Only a few individuals with tetrasporangia have been recorded, and no sexual reproductive structures have been observed in field collections. In culture stichidia readily developed on the pseudolaterals, with four tetrasporangia per section. The spores showed high mortality. A few sporelings survived in culture, and developed into small and loosely organized filaments with no upright axes. After 2 years in culture a few plants bearing spermatangial branches were observed, but no individuals with carpogonia. The monosiphonous branches are readily shed in culture, attach themselves by rhizoids and rapidly develop into new thalli, some of which have produced tetrasporangial stichidia. Sequences analyses of partial COI and the rbc L gene showed that the new taxon belongs within Dasyoideae. However, no close relationship was found with other European species of Dasya. The new taxon was compared to other Dasya taxa with which it shared a number of selected characters, but none of these taxa shared all characters of the new Dasya.  相似文献

Acer platanoides L. individuals were dissected to determine if branch allometry changed as branches increased in length. Branches were found to transition from a log–log curvilinear relationship to a linear relationship when above 3,000 mm in length. The log–log linear relationship was best modeled with the elastic similarity model. The total number of subordinate lateral branches was found to increase rapidly after the primary branch length surpassed 3,000 mm, suggesting that branches are transitioning to a structural role as size increases. The shift in allometry appears to correspond to a shift from increasing slenderness ratio (length/radius) with increasing branch length to decreasing ratio, and is likely due to a transition from flexible sun branches to stiffer structural branches.  相似文献

We developed a clonal culture of Sargassum horneri to investigate the effect of photoperiod on reproduction in this species. Regenerated vegetative thalli were obtained using lateral branches excised from a thallus grown from a single embryo under short‐day conditions (SD = 10:14 h light : dark cycle). Lateral branches excised from the SD‐regenerated thallus became vegetative thalli that remained in that phase as long as they were cultured under SD. When an excised lateral branch was cultured under long‐day conditions (LD = 14:10 h light : dark cycle), it began to enter the reproductive phase while still less than 50 mm long. Induction of the reproductive phase was accompanied by a distinctive morphological change – suppression of blade formation at the apical region of the branch; elongation of branches without blades was then followed by differentiation of receptacles bearing conceptacles on their surface. Apices of receptacles were able to interconvert between reproductive and vegetative phases, as blades resprouted upon transfer from LD to SD. The critical day length for induction of receptacle formation was between 13 and 14 h; receptacle formation was also induced under SD conditions with night breaks (NBs). These results strongly suggest that reproductive regulation of S. horneri is a photoperiodic long‐day response. NBs with blue and green light were effective for reproductive induction but not with red light. This suggests that blue‐ and/or green‐light photoreceptors are involved in the photoperiodic reproductive response of S. horneri.  相似文献

Reproductive allocation (the proportion of biomass allocated to reproductive tissue, RA) in Sargassum thunbergii was studied in Yantai, Shandong Peninsula, southern coast of Bohai Bay, China. Annual reproduction initiated in mid-June and peaked in mid-July (90 ± 8% fertile thalli and 75 ± 6% RA mean). Both RA and percentage of fertile thalli exhibited significant temporal variations during reproduction. Sterile thalli were only observed in small length hierarchies at peak reproduction and mean values of RA showed a significantly hierarchical variation, suggesting that the size of thalli played an important role in reproduction and RA were size-dependent. Numerous receptacles were produced along the lateral branches during the reproductive period. A distinct seasonal pattern was observed wherein the presence of lateral branches was followed by the onset of reproduction. RA was positively correlated with the number of lateral branches, as well as the total length of lateral branches. In addition, fertile thalli decayed quickly after peak reproduction. The probability of decay was evidently higher for fertile than for sterile thalli, because all surviving thalli were sterile and short during July–August. So, a trade-off between reproduction and survival may exist at individual levels in S. thunbergii.  相似文献

Seven root and shoot characters of young pea (Pisum sativum and Pisum fulvum) seedlings were analysed to study genetic variability and to obtain measures of heritability in the broad sense. Considerable genetic variation was noted in all characters studied in the thirty genotypes with the length of the main root showing the greatest variability. Estimates of heritability exceeding 50 % were noted for the number of laterals, length of shoot, weight of root and weight of shoot. Seed weight was significantly correlated only with length of longest lateral and weight of root. The length of the longest lateral and the length to the last lateral were correlated with most other characters.  相似文献

Rock wallabies, Petrogale, exhibit chromosome diversity that is exceptional in marsupials, with 20 distinct chromosome races being recognized. Many of the karyotypic changes identified within Petrogale appear to be recent, although the rate of chromosome evolution varies between taxa. While the patchy distribution of Petrogale and their social structure would facilitate the fixation of novel rearrangements, these factors alone do not explain the pattern of chromosome evolution shown in this group. The chromosome changes that have come to characterize each taxon may offer selective advantages in the particular areas occupied, or it may be that these rearrangements play an important role in reproductive isolation. In Petrogale, the taxa with the largest number of chromosome rearrangements are those that are sympatric, or have multiple zones of parapatry, with other members of the genus. Male hybrids from a variety of chromosomal admixtures were found to be sterile, but with those heterozygous for the least complex rearrangements being least affected. As expected, equivalent female hybrids were less severely affected. Chromosomal and genic changes both appear important in these processes.  相似文献

植物的生长特性随环境条件的变化具有可塑性,而不同的环境因素对植物可塑性的影响也不尽相同。利用异速分析的方法,通过模拟退化草地恢复过程中猪毛菜(Salsola collina)的不同种群密度(16、44、100、400株/m2),研究其形态结构性状及生物量分配策略的异速关系在种群密度间的差异。结果表明,种群密度增大能抑制猪毛菜的生长,而且对猪毛菜的株高、根长、一级分枝数、二级分枝数、三级分枝数以及总分枝长均产生了极显著的影响,表明种群密度的变化使得植物的高生长和侧向生长发生了显著变化。种群密度的变化也引起了植物生物量的变化,其中植物根、茎、叶间的生物关系是一种表观可塑性,植物的生长策略未发生改变,只是植物个体大小发生改变引起的生物量分配的变化。植物株高、总分枝长、一级分枝数及繁殖分配的变化,是由种群密度变化引起的,植物的适应策略发生了改变,是真正的可塑性。种群密度改变了植物的繁殖分配策略,而未改变植物叶的分配策略,说明当环境发生变化时,植物调整了其繁殖策略以适应环境因素的改变,以保证种群的生存繁衍。  相似文献

The most common estimate of reproductive success in orchids is usually fruit set. Factors such as resource limitation and certain floral traits may influence reproductive success in animal-pollinated plants. Correlated evolution of reproductive success vs. seven floral traits (inflorescence length, flower number, flower distribution along inflorescence, dorsal sepal length, lateral sepal length, flower color, and column position) was studied in eight species of Govenia. Taxa represented three lineages in the genus. Independent contrasts were calculated on a phylogeny inferred from chloroplast (trnL-F IGS) DNA sequences, and a correlation test and multiple regression were then performed. Two data sets were evaluated, one including all eight species and another excluding G. utriculata, which is autogamous. The historical analyses showed that there is a correlation between reproductive success and dorsal sepal length, column position, and flower number, these correlations suggest that changes in these floral traits usually accompany evolutionary shifts in reproductive success. Multiple regression tests suggest that changes in reproductive success can be explained by shifts in flower number, inflorescence length, column position and by dorsal sepal length. When phylogeny is taken into account, our analyses showed that evolutionary shifts in these floral traits were correlated with changes in reproductive success. Evolutionary correlation between reproductive success and floral traits might be explained by the natural selection of certain floral phenotypes by pollinators.  相似文献

Vegetative and reproductive development of Neosiphonia flavimarina gen. et sp. nov. (Rhodomelaceae, Ceramiales) from Bangpo on the western coast of Korea was investigated. This species is superficially similar to Polysiphonia, but differs distinctly from the latter in vegetative and reproductive structures. The plants attach by a solid disk composed of a dense cluster of rhizoids cut off from the pericentral cell wall, and bear erect indeterminate branches producing the lateral-branch initials from successive segments in a spiral arrangement. The procarps have a three-celled carpo-gonial branch. Spermatangial branches are formed on a primary branch of the trichoblasts, terminating in a single or occasionally two large, sterile cells. Tetra-sporangia are produced from the second pericentral cell adjacent to the trichoblast basal cell on indeterminate branches, and arranged spirally. Comparing several taxonomic characters among related genera, Neosiphonia occupies an independent phylogenetic position from Polysiphonia and leads to the conclusion that the genus may have a strong link with Fernandosiphonia which has a unilateral branching system. Relevant nomenclatural changes for several Polysiphonia species are also proposed.  相似文献

This study concerns the evaluation of micromorphological and anatomical characters of fruit (achene-cypsela) in 12 Turkish endemic Tripleurospermum taxa using multivariate analyses (cluster analysis, principal component analysis, one-way analysis of variance). Pericarp in all taxa examined is mainly composed of several layers of parenchymatous and sclerenchymatous cells with one vascular bundle in each rib. In the achene, the thickness and width of lateral and adaxial ribs with presence or absence of a slime envelope have high taxonomic value for Tripleurospermum at interspecific levels. The slime envelope formation is also correlated with ploidy levels and habitats of some taxa in Tripleurospermum.  相似文献

The phenetic variation inL. tenuifolium s.l. was assessed using multivariate analyses of 27 characters found to be variable within the species. These results are discussed and interpreted in the context of the reproductive biology, chromosome number and ecological responses of the taxa. Evidence suggests that both the self-compatible and tetraploid races were derived independently from a self-incompatible, diploid type. Although no taxonomic scheme is compatible with all of the evidence presented, the study supports a recent decision to recognize four taxa at subspecific level.  相似文献

Internal reproductive organ size is an important determinant of male reproductive success. While the response of testis length to variation in the intensity of sperm competition is well documented across many taxa, few studies address the importance of testis size in determining other components of male reproductive success (such as mating frequency) or the significance of size variation in accessory reproductive organs. Accessory gland length, but not testis length, is both phenotypically and genetically correlated with male mating frequency in the stalk-eyed fly Cyrtodiopsis dalmanni. Here we directly manipulate male mating status to investigate the effect of copulation on the size of both the testes and the accessory glands of C. dalmanni.  相似文献

A detailed account of female reproductive features ofPlumariella yoshikawae is presented.Plumariella yoshikawae is recognized as morphologically similar toDelesseriopsis elegans in several features, particularly in the sequence of branch initiation, the presence of gland cells on the abaxial sides of the basal segments of the lateral branches, having carpogonial branches on the basal segments of unmodified lateral branches, and the maturation of the carposporophyte at well below the thallus apices. These features indicate thatPlumariella yoshikawae is best removed from the Ptiloteae and is correctly placed in the tribe Delesseriopsideae. Brachyscome and 8 taxa of its allied genera, Australian Astereae. Statistical tests regarding correlations between changes in chromosome number, total chromosome length, mean chromosome length, karyotypic asymmetry and chromosome length heterogeneity and changes in habit were performed based on the matK molecular phylogenetic tree. The reductions in chromosome number and total chromosome length, and the increases in mean chromosome length, chromosome length heterogeneity and karyotypic asymmetry were found to be correlated with the change in habit from perennial to annual. A reduction in total chromosome length is favored to shorten the mitotic cell cycle and to produce smaller cells conducive to more rapid development of smaller annuals under the time-limited environment. Stepwise dysploidal reductions in chromosome number were achieved through the translocation of large chromosome segments onto other chromosomes, followed by the loss of a centromere, resulting in one fewer linkage group and one fewer haploid chromosome. The correlations between the dysploidal reduction in chromosome number and the increases in mean chromosome length, length heterogeneity and asymmetry in karyotype can be attributed to this mode of chromosomal change. Jurinea turcica B.Doǧan & A.Duran sp. nova (Asteraceae) is described and illustrated from North-West Anatolia, Turkey. It is closely related to J. macrocalathia and also an endemic. Diagnostic morphological characters of J. turcica from closely similar taxa are discussed. The pollen characteristics and achene surface morphology of J. turcica and J. macrocalathia are examined by SEM. It is diploid with the chromosome number of 2n = 34.  相似文献

The basic chromosome number for Chrysothamnus is x = 9 as determined by 234 original counts representing all species. Polyploidy is frequent only in C. viscidiflorus where diploids, tetraploids, and hexaploids are found. Pollen size in the genus is basically correlated with style length rather than ploidy level. Most aspects of meiosis appear normal except for the tendency for nucleolar fragmentation. To reduce chromosome clumping during meiosis, an ice-water pretreatment was utilized. Karyotypes in Chrysothamnus reflect similar trends of specialization noted in chromosome structure for other Compositae. The taxa are predominantly self-fertilized; however, one instance of interspecific hybridization is noted. Taxonomic significance of the chromosome numbers, karyotypes, and breeding system in Chrysothamnus is discussed.  相似文献

Multiple lateral branching (MLB) is a quantitatively inherited trait associated with yield in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.; 2n = 2x = 14). Although quantitative trait loci (QTL) have been identified for MLB and QTL-marker associations have been verified by marker-assisted selection, the individual effects of these QTL have not been characterized. To test the effects of pyramiding QTL for MLB, molecular genotyping was utilized to create two sets (standard- and little-leaf types) of inbred backcross (IBC) lines possessing various numbers of QTL that promote branching. These IBC lines were evaluated for lateral branch number in two Wisconsin environments at three plant densities. Highly significant differences in the number of primary lateral branches were detected between spacings, leaf types, and lines, but not between locations. Lateral branch number decreased at higher plant densities in all genotypes, while genotype by environment and QTL by environment interactions were marginally non-significant. As the number of QTL increased among IBC lines, the number of branches did not generally change in the little-leaf lines, but decreased in the standard-leaf lines, demonstrating an epistatic effect related to genetic background during lateral branch development. The genomic location with the greatest effect on MLB was confirmed as the QTL that was previously mapped near the little-leaf locus (ll), while the addition of one specific QTL consistently decreased the number of lateral branches in standard-leaf lines. Although pyramiding QTL for MLB did not uniformly increase the number of lateral branches, pyramiding QTL in IBC lines allowed further characterization of individual QTL involved in MLB. Our results, coupled with those of previous studies indicate that lateral branch development in cucumber is determined by growing environment (i.e., plant spacing), genetic background, and QTL composition.  相似文献

The vegetative and reproductive morphology of two epiphytic Herpochondria species, H. corallinae (Martens) Falkenberg (the type species) and H. elegans (Okamura) Itono from Korea were investigated. They are bilaterally compressed and alternate-distichously branched, and lateral branches are produced by oblique divisions of the apical cell. Procarps are restricted to the first periaxial cell of the branches. Spermatangial mother cells produce one or two spermatangia. H. corallinae forms tetrasporangia on six periaxial cells, whereas H. elegans has them on only the two lateral periaxial cells. The prostrate habit, the production of six periaxial cells in opposite pairs, and tetrasporangial stichidia are confirmed as diagnostic characters of the genus Herpochondria.  相似文献

The MADS box genes participate in different steps of vegetative and reproductive plant development, including the most important phases of the reproductive process. Here we describe the isolation and characterisation of two Asparagus officinalis MADS box genes, AOM3 and AOM4. The deduced AOM3 protein shows the highest degree of similarity with ZAG3 and ZAG5 of maize, OsMADS6 of rice and AGL6 of Arabidopsis thaliana. The deduced AOM4 protein shows the highest degree of similarity with AOM1 of asparagus, the SEP proteins of Arabidopsis and the rice proteins OsMADS8, OsMADS45 and OsMADS7. The high level of identity between AOM1 and AOM4 made impossible the preparation of probes specific for one single gene, so the hybridisation signal previously described for AOM1 is probably due to the expression of both genes. The expression profile of AOM3 and AOM1/AOM4 during flower development is identical, and similar to that of the SEP genes. Asparagus genes, however, are expressed not only in flower organs, but also in the different meristem present on the apical region of the shoot during the flowering season: the apical meristem and the three lateral meristems emerging from the leaf axillary region that will give rise to flowers and lateral inflorescences during flowering season, and to phylloclades and branches during the subsequent vegetative phase. The expression of AOM3 and AOM1/AOM4 in these meristems appears to be correlated with the reproductive function of the apex as the hybridisation signal disappears when the apex switches to vegetative function.  相似文献
