Beneficial effect of vitamin E on the metabolic parameters of diabetic rats   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The role of vitamin E in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus is unknown. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of oral administration of vitamin E on some of the metabolic parameters of experimental diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg body weight at 12 weeks of age). Vitamin E (0.2, 0.4, 0.8 mg/kg body weight) was administered orally for a period of 3 weeks to normal and diabetic Wistar rats. In some experiments, Vitamin E was given either before or after the induction of diabetes mellitus. Blood glucose level and weight were recorded for each rat in different groups on a weekly basis. Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed on fasted normal, diabetic and vitamin E treated rats at the end of the experiment. Vitamin E significantly (p < 0.01) reduced blood glucose levels in experimental diabetes mellitus at all doses as compared to untreated rats. Vitamin E induced weight loss in normal as well as in diabetic rats. The beneficial effect of vitamin E on the hyperglycaemia of diabetic rats was dose-dependent. Moreover, vitamin E also improved OGTT in diabetic rats compared to untreated diabetics. In conclusion, vitamin E may play a role in glucose metabolism and thus be a useful adjuvant therapy in type I diabetes. (Mol Cell Biochem 261: 35–42, 2004)  相似文献

Diabetes mellitus is associated with diabetic impairment of testicular function, ultimately leading to reduced fertility. Its etiology may involve oxidative damage by reactive oxygen substances, and protection against this damage can be offered by antioxidant supplementation. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of intraperitoneal administration of vitamin C and E, selenium (Se), and vitamin E plus Se (COM) on concentrations of lipid peroxide (as malondialdehyde; MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH), and vitamin E concentrations and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity in the testes of rats with diabetes induced by streptozotocin (STZ). Sixty groups were used (10 animals each) and these animals were initially allocated to two groups: control group and diabetic group. The diabetic group was subdivided into five groups as follows: diabetic control (DC), vitamin E, Se, COM, and vitamin C. Animals in the DC group and vitamin C, vitamin E, Se, and COM groups were made diabetic by the injection of STZ on 4 d after an injection of vitamins C and E, Se, and COM. Those vitamins and Se were also administered for 21 consecutive days. The MDA, vitamin E, GSH levels, and GSH-Px activities in testes were determined. Although the vitamin E concentration was higher in the control than in the DC group, the MDA levels were found to be lower in the control than in the DC group. The MDA levels in the testes samples of vitamin C, vitamin E, Se, and COM groups were lower than the DC group. However, GSH-Px activity and GSH levels in the testes were not significantly different between the control and DC groups. Vitamin E concentrations in the vitamin C, vitamin E, Se, and COM groups and GSH levels and GSH-Px activities in the Se, COM, and vitamin C groups were higher than either the control or DC group. The results indicate that reactive oxygen substances may be involved in possible testicular complications in diabetes of rats. Administration of vitamins C and E and Se reduced the testicular lipid peroxidation; these vitamins and Se had significant protective effects on testes of rats against oxidative damage in diabetes.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to determine the protective effects of intraperitoneally administered vitamin E and selenium (as Na2SeO3, Se) on the lipid peroxidation as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and vitamin E levels, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), reduced glutathione (GSH) activities in the plasma, red blood cell (RBC), liver, and muscle of rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes. Fifty adult male Wistar rats were used and all rats were randomly divided into five groups. The first group was used as a control and the second group as a diabetic control. A placebo was given to first and second groups by injection. The third group was intraperitoneally administered with vitamin E (20 mg over 24 h), the fourth group with Se (0.3 mg over 24 h), and the fifth group with vitamin E and Se combination (COM) (20 mg vitamin E + 0.3 mg Se over 24 h). This administration was done for 25 days and the TBARS, vitamin E, GSH-Px, GSH levels in the plasma, RBC, liver, and muscle samples were determined. The vitamin E level in the plasma and liver was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in the control than in the diabetic control group. Also, the TBARS levels in the RBC, liver, and muscle were significantly (p < 0.05) lower in the control than in the diabetic control group. However, GSH-Px and GSH activities in RBC, liver, and muscle were not statistically different between the control and the diabetic control groups. The vitamin E levels in plasma and liver (p < 0.01 and p < 0.001) and GSH-Px activities (p < 0.01, p < 0.001) in RBC were significantly higher in vitamin E, Se, and COM groups than in both control and diabetic control groups. However, the TBARS levels of RBC, muscle, and liver in vitamin E and Se administered groups were significantly (p < 0.05-p < 0.001, respectively) decreased. These results indicate that intraperitoneally administered vitamin E and Se have significant protective effects on the blood, liver, and muscle against oxidative damage of diabetes. The effect of vitamin E (1 g/kg body weight) supplementation on myosin-V and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) immunoreactive myenteric neurons from the ileum of diabetic rats was investigated in the present study. Forty animals were divided into the following groups: normoglycemics (N), normoglycemics treated with vitamin E (NE), diabetics (D), and diabetics treated with vitamin E (DE). Quantitative and morphometric analyses were performed. The area of the tertiary plexus was also determined. Diabetes produced a 24% reduction in the number of myosin-V neurons in group D compared with group N, an effect that was accompanied by an increase in the tertiary plexus area (P < 0.05). Neuronal density was 27% higher in group NE than group N (P < 0.05). Nitrergic neuronal density was not altered as a consequence of either diabetes or vitamin E treatment. Myosin-V and nNOS immunoreactive neuronal cell body area increased significantly in group NE. The area of myosin-V and nNOS myenteric neurons also increased in group D. Vitamin E treatment (group DE) increased only the size of nitrergic neurons. The present results suggest that vitamin E elicited a neuroprotective and neurotrophic effect on the natural aging process, but with regard to diabetes, vitamin E supplementation exerted a neurotrophic effect only on nitrergic neurons.  相似文献

A comprehensive study was carried out to examine the interactions between the two major hydrophilic antioxidants l ‐ascorbate (vitamin C, l ‐AA), and glutathione (γ‐glutamyl cysteinylglycine, GSH), and other antioxidant pools in tissues of Malus, to identify factors affecting steady‐state cellular concentrations. We show that in Malus, each tissue type has a characteristic and different l ‐AA/GSH ratio and that in fruit, exocarp (epidermal) tissue acclimated to high light has higher l ‐AA levels but lower GSH levels than shaded (green) areas. Maturing seeds were characterized by the highest concentrations of GSH and a highly oxidized l ‐AA pool. It is demonstrated that fruit seeds are capable of l ‐AA biosynthesis, but that this occurs exclusively by means of the Smirnoff–Wheeler pathway. By contrast, foliar tissue was also able to synthesize l ‐AA using uronic acid substrates. Unlike the fruit of some other plant species however, the remaining fruit tissues are incapable of de novol ‐AA biosynthesis. The observed differences in the steady‐state concentrations of l ‐AA and GSH and the capacity to withstand stress in fruit, were also independent of the rates of uptake of photosynthate or of l ‐AA, but were correlated with the protective effect provided by phenolic compounds in these tissues. During development and maturation, l ‐AA and GSH levels in apple fruit declined steadily while foliar levels remained essentially constant throughout. However there was no apparent relationship between the free sugar contents of the fruit and antioxidant concentrations.  相似文献

An effect of vitamin E on blood platelets functioning was studied in 39 patients with diabetes mellitus type 1. Control group included 20 healthy blood donors. Vitamin E in a daily dose of 1000 mg produced statistically significant decrease in platelets aggregation, number of circulating platelet aggregates and release of the platelet factory 4 in diabetics after 7 days of treatment. No adverse reactions were seen in any patient treated with vitamin E. The obtained results indicate that vitamin E inhibits increased platelets activity in the patients with diabetes mellitus type 1 and does not exert toxic reactions during the treatment.  相似文献

People living at high altitude appear to have lower blood glucose levels and decreased incidence of diabetes. Faster glucose uptake and increased insulin sensitivity are likely explanations for these findings: skeletal muscle is the largest glucose sink in the body, and its adaptation to the hypoxia of altitude may influence glucose uptake and insulin sensitivity. This study tested the hypothesis that chronic normobaric hypoxia increases insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in soleus muscles and decreases plasma glucose levels. Adult male C57BL/6J mice were kept in normoxia [fraction of inspired O? = 21% (Control)] or normobaric hypoxia [fraction of inspired O? = 10% (Hypoxia)] for 4 wk. Then blood glucose and insulin levels, in vitro muscle glucose uptake, and indexes of insulin signaling were measured. Chronic hypoxia lowered blood glucose and plasma insulin [glucose: 14.3 ± 0.65 mM in Control vs. 9.9 ± 0.83 mM in Hypoxia (P < 0.001); insulin: 1.2 ± 0.2 ng/ml in Control vs. 0.7 ± 0.1 ng/ml in Hypoxia (P < 0.05)] and increased insulin sensitivity determined by homeostatic model assessment 2 [21.5 ± 3.8 in Control vs. 39.3 ± 5.7 in Hypoxia (P < 0.03)]. There was no significant difference in basal glucose uptake in vitro in soleus muscle (1.59 ± 0.24 and 1.71 ± 0.15 μmol·g?1·h?1 in Control and Hypoxia, respectively). However, insulin-stimulated glucose uptake was 30% higher in the soleus after 4 wk of hypoxia than Control (6.24 ± 0.23 vs. 4.87 ± 0.37 μmol·g?1·h?1, P < 0.02). Muscle glycogen content was not significantly different between the two groups. Levels of glucose transporters 4 and 1, phosphoinositide 3-kinase, glycogen synthase kinase 3, protein kinase B/Akt, and AMP-activated protein kinase were not affected by chronic hypoxia. Akt phosphorylation following insulin stimulation in soleus muscle was significantly (25%) higher in Hypoxia than Control (P < 0.05). Neither glycogen synthase kinase 3 nor AMP-activated protein kinase phosphorylation changed after 4 wk of hypoxia. These results demonstrate that the adaptation of skeletal muscles to chronic hypoxia includes increased insulin-stimulated glucose uptake.  相似文献

Oxidative stress is currently hypothesized to be a mechanism underlying diabetes. The present study was designed to evaluate the effect of umbelliferone (UMB), a derivative of coumarin, on erythrocyte lipid peroxidation, antioxidants, and lipid profile in normal and streptozotocin (STZ) diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced in adult male albino rats of Wistar strain, weighing 180 to 200 g, by the administration of STZ (40 mg/kg/b-wt) intraperitonially. The normal and diabetic rats were treated with UMB in 10 percent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) dissolved in water for 45 days. The diabetic rats had elevated levels of blood glucose and lipid peroxidation markers such as thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), conjugated dienes (CD), and lipid hydroperoxide (HP) and decreased levels of nonenzymatic antioxidants (Vitamin C and reduced glutathione [GSH]), elevated levels of vitamin E, and elevated levels of enzymatic antioxidants (superoxide dismutase [SOD], catalase [CAT], glutathione peroxidase [GPx]), elevated glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity, and altered lipid profile (cholesterol and phospholipids) in erythrocytes. These changes were reversed by treatment with UMB. Thus, our results indicate that the administration of UMB shows promising potential for the restoration of normal blood glucose levels, erythrocyte lipid peroxidation, antioxidants, and lipid profile in STZ-diabetic.  相似文献

The insulin-like effects of various vanadium compounds (orthovanadate, vanadyl and peroxides of vanadate) on rates of glucose oxidation, lactate formation and glycogen synthesis were measured in isolated incubated epitrochlearis (mainly type 11 fibres) and soleus (mainly type I fibres) muscle preparations. There was a small stimulation of the rate of glucose utilisation in soleus muscle preparations in vitro by orthovanadate (1 mM). Orthovanadate or vanadyl, at 1 mM, had little effect on the rates of lactate formation or glycogen synthesis in isolated incubated epitrochlearis muscle preparations. In contrast, peroxides of vanadate (peroxovanadates, at 1 mM) significantly stimulated glucose utilisation in both soleus and epitrochlearis muscle preparations in vitro. The stimulation of the rate of glycogen synthesis was associated with an increase in the percentage of glycogen synthase in the I (or a) form. Peroxovanadates were administered in the drinking water to rats made insulin deficient by streptozotocin treatment. There was no decrease in the elevated level of blood glucose over an 8 day administration period. (Mol Cell Biochem 109: 157–162, 1992)  相似文献

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a multi-factorial disease which is characterized by hyperglycaemia, lipoprotein abnormalities and oxidative stress. This study evaluated effect of oral vitamin C administration on basal metabolic rate and lipid profile of alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Vitamin C was administered at 200 mg/kg body wt. by gavage for four weeks to diabetic rats after which the resting metabolic rate and plasma lipid profile was determined. The results showed that vitamin C administration significantly (P<0.01) reduced the resting metabolic rate in diabetic rats; and also lowered plasma triglyceride, total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. These results suggest that the administration of vitamin C in this model of established diabetes mellitus might be beneficial for the restoration of basal metabolic rate and improvement of lipid profile. This may at least in part reduce the risk of cardiovascular events seen in diabetes mellitus.  相似文献

Negative consequences of diabetes on the prostate such as involution are associated with diminished testosterone, insulin deficiency, and hyperglycemia. The contributions of oxidative damage, which usually increases with diabetes, are unknown for these alterations. This study evaluated the impact of streptozotocin-induced diabetes on the biomarkers of the antioxidant system of rat ventral prostate, the influence of vitamin C supplementation on these biomarkers, and on the balance between cell proliferation and death. Diabetes (D) was induced in Wistar male rats by streptozotocin (5 mg/100 g b.w., i.p.). Control animals (C) were injected with a vehicle. Vitamin C (150 mg/kg b.w./day) supplementation was introduced by gavage in diabetes (D + V) as well as control (C + V) groups. Thirty days after diabetes onset, the rats were killed and the ventral prostates were analyzed using light microscopy, immunocytochemistry, and biochemical assays for biomarkers of oxidative stress. In comparison to control groups, the levels of circulating testosterone, proliferating, and androgen receptor-positive cells decreased in diabetic groups regardless of vitamin C treatment whereas apoptosis was increased. The levels of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase did not change, but the levels of glutathione-S-transferase (GST) were increased in diabetic prostate. Vitamin C supplementation normalized GST activity and recovered the apoptotic rates in the prostate. In conclusion, GST is a good indicator of compensatory oxidant defense in the prostate at earlier stages of diabetes and vitamin C improves its activity and attenuates apoptosis in the gland.  相似文献

Diabetes induces oxidative stress in aged human and rat, although daily supplementation of vitamins C and E (VCE) can be beneficial to aged diabetic rats by reducing free radical production. The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether dietary VCE supplementation relieves oxidative stress in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic in aged rats. Thirty aged rats were randomly divided into three groups. The first group was used as a control. The second group was made diabetic using a single dose of intraperitoneal STZ. VCE-supplemented feed was given to aged diabetic rats constituting the third group. On the 21st day of the experiment, blood, lens and kidney samples were taken from all animals. Glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity in lens and kidney, reduced glutathione (GSH), vitamin E and β-carotene concentrations in kidney were lower in the diabetic group than in the control whereas plasma glucose, urea and creatinine, and kidney and lens peroxidation (LP) levels were higher in the diabetic group than in the control. However, kidney and lens LP levels, and plasma glucose, urea and creatinine values were decreased by VCE supplementation. Lens and kidney GSH-Px activity, kidney GSH, vitamin E and β-carotene concentrations and erythrocyte counts were increased by VCE treatment. Kidney weights, vitamin A, haemoglobin, hematocrit, leukocyte and platelets values were not changed by diabetes and/or VCE supplementation. VCE ameliorated also diabetes-induced histopathological changes in kidney. In conclusion, we observed that VCE supplementation is beneficial towards kidney and lens of aged diabetic rats by modulating oxidative and antioxidant systems.  相似文献

Diabetes induces changes in the structural, biochemical, electrical, and contractile properties of skeletal muscles. Neuropeptide Y (NPY) administered locally can induce angiogenesis in a rat ischemic limb model and restore the contractile function of the ischemic muscle. The effects of NPY on the contractile characteristics of limb skeletal muscles were examined in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Rats were treated with sham pellets (control groups) or NPY-containing pellets (1 mg of NPY/pellet, 14 days releasing time) administered locally to the rat hind limb 2 months after induction of diabetes. Contractile properties and fatigability of the slow-twitch soleus and fast-twitch gastrocnemius medials muscle were compared in control (sham), control NPY, diabetic (sham), and diabetic NPY groups. In order to induce fatigue trains of repetitive tetanic stimulation were used (600 ms/1 s simulation-rest cycle per train, 112 trains at an 85-Hz fusion frequency). Two months of untreated diabetes significantly prolonged soleus contraction and slowed its relaxation, but had minimal effects on soleus tension. NPY ameliorated the diabetic effects on soleus speed-related contractile properties, restoring its contraction and relaxation times. Diabetes significantly reduced gastrocnemius medials tetanic tension, leaving its contractile characteristics mostly unaffected. NPY partially restored gastrocnemius tetanic tension production capacity. Diabetes significantly increased fatigability of both muscles, which was partially restored by NPY, as evidenced by restored endurance of soleus muscle. The results suggest that NPY administered locally tends to normalize muscle performance and improve fatigue resistance of skeletal muscles in streptozotocin diabetes. Further examination is needed to establish the mechanisms of local NPY action on muscle contractile properties in streptozotocin-induced diabetes.  相似文献

The ability of vitamins C, E and K to inhibit enzymes directly has been investigated. It was found that vitamin E and some analogs and menadione (vitamin K3) inhibited several enzymes irreversibility at concentrations below one millimolar. Ascorbate inhibits rabbit muscle 6-phosphofructokinase (MPFK-1; EC 2.7.1.11), muscle type LDH (EC 1.1.1.27), and muscle AK (EC 2.7.4.3) at low concentrations that do not inhibit equivalent liver isozymes. Ascorbate Ki values for muscle-type LDH and heart-type LDH isozymes are 0.007 and 3 mM, respectively. The ascorbate Ki value for rabbit skeletal muscle PFK-1 is 0.16 mM; liver PFK-I is not inhibited by ascorbate. Dehydroascorbate does not inhibit any enzyme at ascorbate concentrations normally found in cells. All ascorbate inhibitions are completely reactivated or nearly so by L-ascorbate oxidase, CYS, GSH, or DTT. We propose a hypothesis that ascorbate facilitates glycogen storage in muscle by inhibiting glycolysis. The relationship between ascorbate metabolism and diabetes is discussed.  相似文献

The effects of a vitamin C supplemented diet on blood pressure, body and liver weights, liver antioxidant status, iron and copper levels were investigated in DOCA-salt treated and untreated Sprague-Dawley (SD) male rats after 8 weeks of treatment. Vitamin C supplementation had no effect on blood pressure in SD rats but induced a significant decrease in blood pressure in DOCA-salt treated rats, the decrease being more efficient at 50 mg/kg of vitamin C than at 500 mg/kg. Hepatic lipid peroxidation and iron levels were significantly increased in DOCA-salt hypertensive rats whereas total hepatic antioxidant capacity (HAC), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and catalase (CAT) activities were decreased. Vitamin C supplementation did not affect the overall antioxidant defences of control SD rat livers. In contrast, vitamin C supplementation accentuated the DOCA-salt induced accumulation of liver iron and lipid peroxidation. This occurred without any notable aggravation in the antioxidant deficiency of vitamin C supplemented DOCA-salt treated rat livers. Our data suggest that DOCA-salt treatment induces an accumulation of iron in rat livers which is responsible for the prooxidant effect of vitamin C. The normalization of blood pressure in DOCA-salt treated rats by vitamin C supplementation appears thus independent from liver antioxidant status.  相似文献

Background Newborn birth weight has been shown to significantly correlate with the blood levels of vitamin C. Objective This study was planned to answer the question of why vitamin C levels correlate with birth weight; does such correlation reflect a protective effect of vitamin C on fetal growth, by its antioxidant characteristics or does it correspond to the nutritional status of both the mother and the fetus. We examined the hypothesis that maternal blood levels of vitamin C, but not vitamin E influence newborn birth weight. We determined maternal and newborn blood levels of vitamin C, vitamin E, and lipid peroxides (an index of oxidative insult) and the birth weights of full-term newborns delivered at our hospital. Results Compared with maternal blood levels, newborns have higher levels of vitamin C and lipid peroxides, but lower levels of vitamin E. There was a significant correlation in levels between mothers and their newborns for blood levels of vitamin C (r = 0.82, P < 0.01) and vitamin E (r = 0.61, P < 0.02) but not for lipid peroxides (r = 0.001). This suggests that maternal vitamin C and vitamin E intake can influence fetal vitamin C and vitamin E levels. Linear regression analysis shows a significant positive relationship between newborn birth weight and maternal plasma vitamin C (r = 0.51, P < 0.02). Similarly, there was a modest but significant positive relationship between newborn birth weights and newborn vitamin C levels (r = 0.61, P < 0.05). However, there was no relationship between maternal or fetal vitamin E or lipid peroxides levels and the newborn birth weight. Conclusions This study with a small number of subjects suggests a significant association between newborn birth weight and maternal and newborn plasma vitamin C levels. Lack of relationship between birth weight and vitamin E and lipid peroxides suggest that antioxidant function of vitamin C does not appear to have a major role in the effect of vitamin C on birth weight.  相似文献

The study aimed at evaluating the ascorbic acid (AA) concentrations in the liver and blood of the Mediterranean sea bream (Sparus aurata L.) after being fed Rovimix Stay C‐25 (RS C‐25) at three different levels (0, 200 and 800 mg kg?1 of AA) over 45 days. RS C‐25 is a mixture of equal parts of AA monophosphate, diphosphate and polyphosphate, containing a 25% AA equivalent. Increasing RS C‐25 levels in the diet yielded an increasing ascorbic acid content in the plasma and liver, showing a good sea bream utilization of this source of vitamin C. Dietary vitamin C did not affect the growth rate or feed efficiency during the 45‐day experiment. After 75 days, fish fed a vitamin C‐free diet displayed a severe depletion of AA in the liver.  相似文献

This study was designed to determine the effect of diphenyl diselenide and ebselen, synthetic organoselenium compounds with antioxidant properties, in diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced by the administration of streptozotocin (STZ) (45mg/kg, intravenous). In experimental trials, diphenyl diselenide, but not ebselen, caused a significant reduction in blood glucose levels of STZ-treated rats. This effect of diphenyl diselenide was accompanied by a reduction in the levels of glycated proteins. Diphenyl diselenide ameliorate superoxide dismutase activity (liver and erythrocytes) and Vitamin C levels (liver, kidney and blood), which were decreased in STZ-treated rats. In normal rats, diphenyl diselenide caused per se an increase in hepatic, renal and blood GSH levels. Similarly, treatment with diphenyl diselenide restored hepatic and renal GSH levels in STZ-treated rats. TBARS and protein carbonyl levels were not modified by STZ and/or diphenyl diselenide and ebselen treatments. Our findings suggest that diphenyl diselenide can be considered an anti-diabetogenic agent by exhibiting anti-hyperglycemic and antioxidant properties.  相似文献

Dystrophic muscles suffer from enhanced oxidative stress. We have investigated whether administration of an antioxidant, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a component of green tea, reduces their oxidative stress and pathophysiology in mdx mice, a mild phenotype model of human Duchenne-type muscular dystrophy. EGCG (5 mg/kg body weight in saline) was injected subcutaneously 4× a week into the backs of C57 normal and dystrophin-deficient mdx mice for 8 weeks after birth. Saline was injected into normal and mdx controls. EGCG had almost no observable effects on normal mice or on the body weights of mdx mice. In contrast, it produced the following improvements in the blood chemistry, muscle histology, and electrophysiology of the treated mdx mice. First, the activities of serum creatine kinase were reduced to normal levels. Second, the numbers of fluorescent lipofuscin granules per unit volume of soleus and diaphragm muscles were significantly decreased by about 50% compared to the numbers in the corresponding saline-treated controls. Third, in sections of diaphragm and soleus muscles, the relative area occupied by histologically normal muscle fibres increased significantly 1.5- to 2-fold whereas the relative areas of connective tissue and necrotic muscle fibres were substantially reduced. Fourth, the times for the maximum tetanic force of soleus muscles to fall by a half increased to almost normal values. Fifth, the amount of utrophin in diaphragm muscles increased significantly by 17%, partially compensating for the lack of dystrophin expression.  相似文献
