The present study investigated the effects of dietary copper (Cu) on growth performance and fur quality in growing-furring minks. One hundred and five standard dark female minks were randomly assigned to seven groups with the following dietary treatments: basal diet with no supplemental Cu (control) and basal diet supplemented with either 6, 12, 24, 48, 96 or 192 mg/kg Cu from copper sulphate, respectively. Our data showed that final body weight (P?=?0.033), daily gain (P?=?0.029) and fat digestibility (P?=?0.0006) responded to increasing levels of Cu. The activity of glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase (GOT) and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT) in serum increased (linear and quadratic, P?<?0.05) as Cu increased in the diet. Increasing Cu improved total protein (TP) and albumin (ALB) (quadratic, P?<?0.05). The level of ceruloplasmin (CER) responded in a linear (P?<?0.0001) and quadratic (P?<?0.0001) form with increasing level of Cu. Colour intensity of those minks pelted suggested that relatively high levels of supplemental Cu have a beneficial effect on intensifying hair colour of dark mink but did not affect leather thickness. Liver Cu and plasma Cu concentrations of the mink linearly (P?<?0.0001) responded to increasing levels of Cu. Our results indicate that growing-furring mink can efficiently utilize added dietary fat and that Cu plays an important role in the digestion of dietary fat in growing-furring mink, and supplemental dietary Cu in growing-furring mink promotes fat digestion and improve hair colour.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different sources and levels of zinc (Zn) on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, serum biochemical parameters, and fur quality in growing-furring male mink. Animals in the control group were fed a basal diet with no Zn supplementation. Mink in the other nine treatments were fed the basal diet supplemented with Zn from either grade Zn sulfate (ZnSO4·7H2O), Zn glycinate (ZnGly), or Zn pectin oligosaccharides (ZnPOS) at concentrations of either 100, 300, or 900 mg Zn/kg dry matter. One hundred and fifty healthy 15-week-old male mink were randomly allocated to ten dietary treatments (n = 15/group) for a 60-day trial from mid-September to pelting in December. Mink in the Zn-POS groups had higher average daily gain than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Zn source slightly improved the feed/gain (P = 0.097). N retention was increased by Zn addition (P < 0.05). Mink supplemented with dietary Zn had higher (P < 0.05) pancreas Zn level than the control group. Fur length was greater (P < 0.05) in ZnGly and ZnPOS groups compared with the control. In addition, fur length and fur density increased (linear, P < 0.05) with Zn supplementation in the diet. In conclusion, our data show that dietary Zn addition improves growth performance by increasing nitrogen retention and fat digestibility in growing-furring mink and Z-POS is equally bioavailable to mink compared to ZnGly.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to study the effects of dietary manganese levels on growth performance, nutrients digestibility, and N balance of minks during growing period. In experiment 1, 75 healthy male minks (60 days old) were selected and randomly divided into five groups with different types of diet. The diet was supplemented with 0 (control), 50, 100, 300, and 600 ppm of manganese as MnSO4 of dry matter (DM) in basic diet, respectively. From early July to middle September, the results showed that the final body weights of minks were significantly affected by diets (P?<?0.05). Average daily gains (ADG) were significantly higher in the 300-ppm manganese group than those in other groups. The ratio of feed to body weight gain (F/G) was significantly affected by manganese level (P?<?0.05). In experiment 2, 45 male minks (75 days old) with the same body weight were selected from each group of experiment 1 to carry out the nutrient digestion and N-balance tests which lasted for 4 days for the collection of the feces and urine, and the diets and treatment codes were same as in experiment 1. The results showed that no significant differences were found in DM, crude protein (CP), and crude carbohydrate (CC) digestibility among all groups (P?>?0.05), but ether extract (EE) and gross energy (GE) digestibility were all the highest in the 300-ppm group. N intake and fecal N were similar among all groups (P?>?0.05). Urinary N was lower in the 300-ppm group; in contrast, N retention was higher in this group (P?<?0.05). In conclusion of experiment 1 and experiment 2, the diet supplemented with 300 ppm of manganese (as manganese sulfate) could improve the growth performance and increase the EE and GE digestibility of mink during the growing period and moreover reduce the nitrogen emissions to the environment, and the optimal total manganese level in mink’s diet was 409.16 in DM during the growing period.  相似文献

A 2 × 3 factorial arrangement of treatments was used to investigate the effects of different levels of copper (Cu, 0, 19, and 38 mg/kg, dry matter (DM)) and molybdenum (Mo, 0 and 5 mg/kg, DM) supplements and an interaction of these two factors on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, and cashmere and follicle characteristics in cashmere goats. Thirty-six Liaoning cashmere goats (approximately 1.5 years of age; 27.53 ± 1.38 kg of body weight) were assigned randomly to one of six treatments and fed with Chinese wildrye- and alfalfa hay-based treatment diets (the basal diet contained 4.72 mg Cu/kg, 1.65 mg Mo/kg, and 0.21% S.). Body weight was measured on two consecutive days at the start and the end of the 70-day experimental period. On day 30, the metabolism trial was conducted to study the effects of dietary Cu and Mo on nutrient digestibility. The cashmere and skin samples were collected on day 70. Copper supplementation increased (P < 0.05) growth performance and fiber digestion, but there were no differences (P > 0.05) between Cu-supplemented groups. Addition of 19 mg Cu/kg DM increased (P < 0.05) cashmere growth length or growth rate by increasing the number of active secondary follicles. Molybdenum supplementation decreased (P < 0.05) growth, but did not affect (P > 0.05) nutrient digestion, cashmere, and follicle characteristics. There is a tendency or significant interaction effect of Cu and Mo on growth performance (P = 0.057), cashmere growth (P = 0.076), or diameter (P < 0.05) which might be accomplished by changing the number of secondary follicle and active secondary follicle, and secondary to primary follicle ratio. In conclusion, the optimal supplemental Cu level for Liaoning cashmere goats fed with the basal diet was 19 mg/kg DM (the total dietary Cu level of 23.72 mg/kg DM), while 38 mg Cu/kg DM supplementation was found to be needed when 5 mg Mo/kg was added in the basal diet during the cashmere growing period.  相似文献

Variations in fifteen metrical measurements and six non-metrical traits in 131 mink skulls were investigated. The skulls were subdivided geographically into three samples: Eastern Norway, Western Norway and Trøndelag. Separation into juveniles and adults was in accordance with the criterion that all sutures are closed in adults. This seemed to work well. No age or sex variations were found in the non-metrical traits. Relatively little geographic variation found in either the metrical measurements or the non-metrical traits indicated little genetic variation. Gene-flow is regarded as one of the reasons for this.  相似文献

Pituitary glands of intact and experimental adult females of mink, Mustela vison, were examined by electron microscopy. Conventional methods involving removal of endocrine glands (ovaries and adrenals), administration of radioactive isotope, 131I, blocking agents (thiouracil and metopirone) and hormones (thyroxine, hydrocortisone, thyrotropin and luteinizing hormone releasing hormones) were employed. Five categories of granular cells were distinguished both by their ultrastructural characteristics and qualitative changes throughout the year and following different treatments. The cell types are described and their functions discussed. From conventional electron microscopical studies it proved difficult to draw any satisfactory conclusions about the gonadotropic cells. Further investigation by means of immunocytochemistry and radioimmunoassay techniques is required to determine, whether the presumptive gonadotropic cell type produces both FSH and ICSH or only one of these hormones. Morphologically two types of agranular cells were identified. Their morphological inter-relationship and function are discussed briefly.  相似文献

Sexual dimorphism in the skull of the feral American mink is discussed, based on 15 measurements of 53 adults from southern Norway. The differences in means are highly significant. Variation is found to be greatest in males. Sexual dimorphism is thought to be an adaptation for different reproductive roles of the sexes in a polygynous mating system with lack of male parental care.  相似文献

Total numbers of aerotolerant and anaerobic bacteria, and densities of Enterobacteriaceae, lactobacilli, staphylococci, salmonella and shigella, and campylobacteria were enumerated in the contents of the stomach, small intestine (and the associated mucosa), and colon of mink beginning at 2 weeks of age to adulthood, and in adults that were fed diets with different levels and types of fiber or food deprived. Highest densities of all bacterial groups were found in the colon at all ages (up to 108 cfu per g for total anaerobes), but were 2–4 orders of magnitude lower than those of other mammals. When all regions were pooled, significant age-related increases (p<0.05) were detected for anaerobes, aerobes, and staphylococci, and these coincided with the dietary shift at weaning. Enterobacteriaceae did not vary with age. Lactobacilli were never common isolates, but were detected more often after weaning, particularly in adults fed diets containing the 2 sources of fiber. Campylobacteria were detected only at 2 weeks of age, and salmonella and shigella were not isolated from any of the experimental mink. Total bacterial densities, the relative proportions of the bacterial groups, and age- and diet-related effects differ from those known for other mammals, which may be related to the carnivorous diet and rapid movement of digesta through the GIT.  相似文献

Two trials were conducted in a 2?×?2?+?1 factorial arrangement based on a completely randomized design to evaluate the effects of different sources of selenium (Se) on performance, blood metabolites, and nutrient digestibility in male lambs on a barley-based diet. The first trial lasted for 70 days and consisted of 30 lambs (35.6?±?2.6 kg mean body weight, about 4–5 months of age) which were randomly allotted to five treatments including: (1) basal diet (containing 0.06 mg Se/kg DM; control) without supplementary Se, (2) basal diet?+?0.20 mg/kg Se as sodium selenite (SeS 0.20), (3) basal diet?+?0.40 mg/kg Se as sodium selenite (SeS 0.40), (4) basal diet?+?0.20 mg/kg Se as selenium yeast (SeY 0.20), and (5) basal diet?+?0.40 mg/kg Se as selenium yeast (SeY 0.40). For the second trial, four lambs from each group of experiment 1 were randomly allocated to individual metabolic cages for 14 days to measure the effects of dietary Se on nutrient digestibility. The results revealed that there were no significant differences for average daily gain, average daily feed intake, feed/gain ratio, hematological parameters (packed cell volume, red blood cell, white blood cell, and hemoglobin values), serum total protein, albumin, globulin, aspartate amino transferase, alkaline phosphatase, and creatine phosphokinase due to supplementation of different amounts and sources of Se in lambs. Dietary Se supplementation significantly improved (P?<?0.001) glutathione peroxidase activity in blood. Furthermore, at the end of the trial, serum tri-iodothyronine (T3) amount also increased (P?<?0.05), while serum thyroxine (T4) amount decreased (P?<?0.05). Digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, and acid detergent fiber increased (P?<?0.05) by Se yeast supplementation. It may be concluded that supplementation of Se in lambs had no significant effect on performance and blood hematology, but increased blood glutathione peroxidase activity and serum T3 amount and decreased serum T4 amount as compared to non-supplemented control lambs. Furthermore, Se yeast improved nutrient digestibility in lambs.  相似文献

The pineal gland of normal and experimental female mink has been studied by light-, fluorescence- and electron microscopy. The general structure of the mink pineal is described. Two main cell types are recognized. One, termed pinealocyte, predominates in number. Though slight morphological differences (e.g. electron density of the cytoplasm and content of organelles) were observed, this study indicates that the pineal of mink only contains one single population of pinealocytes. The other, termed glial cell, inserted between the pinealocytes, is characterized by the presence of elongated processes, containing microfilaments. Different treatments (ovariectomy and LH—RH administration) and different endocrine states during the year induced morphological changes in the pinealocytes. A rich network of nerve fibres containing electron-dense granules (40–50 nm) is observed. Microspectrofluorometrically these fibres exhibit the spectral characteristics of cateholamines. All the pinealocytes show a yellow fluorescence. This cellular fluorophor shows the same microspectrofluorometric characteristics as does the fluorophor of serotonin. Occasionally, synaptic ribbons are observed in the perikaryon and the processes of the pinealocytes. A large number of cellular junctions between pinealocytes and endothelial cells is present. Their presumed function(s) are discussed. There is evidence of a blood-brain barrier within the mink pineal gland.  相似文献

This study was performed to determine the effects of different copper (Cu) sources and levels on plasma superoxide dismutase (SOD), lipid peroxidation, and Cu status of lambs. Fifty Dorper × Mongolia wether lambs (approximately 3?month of age; average BW?=?23.8?±?0.6?kg) were divided into five equal groups each with ten animals according to their weight. Treatments consisted of (1) control (no supplemental Cu), (2) 10?mg Cu/kg DM from Cu-lysine, (3) 20?mg Cu/kg DM from Cu-lysine, (4) 10?mg Cu/kg DM from tribasic copper chloride (Cu(2)(OH)(3)Cl; TBCC), and (5) 20?mg Cu/kg DM from TBCC. The Cu concentration was 6.74?mg/kg DM in the basal diet. Plasma copper concentrations and ceruloplasmin activities were not affected on day?30 by Cu supplementation. Copper supplementation increased plasma and liver copper concentrations and ceruloplasmin activities on day?60. Muscle Cu concentrations were not affected by Cu supplementation. There were no differences in plasma, liver, and muscle Cu concentrations and ceruloplasmin activities between Cu-lysine and TBCC. Liver copper concentrations and plasma ceruloplasmin activities were increased in lambs supplemented with 20?mg Cu/kg DM than in those supplemented with 10?mg Cu/kg DM on day?60. However, copper levels had no effects on Cu concentrations in plasma and muscle. Malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations were decreased in plasma and liver tissues, but not affected in muscle by Cu supplementation. Plasma SOD activities were increased by Cu supplementation. There were no differences in plasma, liver, and muscle MDA concentrations and plasma SOD activities between Cu sources and levels. These results indicated that Cu supplementation increased plasma SOD activity, lipid oxidative stability, and copper status of lambs, but did not influence lipid oxidative stability in sheep muscle. Cu-lysine and TBCC were of similar availability when offered to finishing sheep.  相似文献

The pars distalis of adult minks were examined by light microscopy. Seasonal variations in cytology and the effect of photostimulation and various drugs were studied. Six types of glandular cells were identified by their structural and staining qualities. To each has been tentatively assigned an endocrine function. Problems in the interpretation of experiments involving administration of drugs are discussed. Discussion is also devoted to the difficulties in demonstrating the mink prolactin cells.  相似文献

Hypophysial tissue of mink (Mustela vison) embryos, newborn young and kits aged 1 day to 27 weeks was examined by light and electron microscopy. Among the embryos five different ontogenetic stages were distinguished. It appears that the primordium of the pituitary gland differentiates in early embryonic life. Several types of glandular cells containing variable amounts of granular material were recognizable by the time of birth. The role of the granular cells and the origin of the lumina in the pars distalis are speculated upon (in the Discussion).  相似文献

(1) We measured cooling rate for neonatal mink during a 10min coldroom (3.9 degrees C) exposure and subsequent warming rate during a 20min incubator (37.2 degrees C) exposure, the behaviour of the kits and the changes in their pelage between 1 and 46d of age, in an attempt to monitor the ontogeny of their thermoregulatory capacity. (2) Body weight of the 1d old kits averaged only 12.8+/-2.3g (n=4), but they gained weight rapidly reaching 226.1+/-28.3g (males, n=4) and 207.6+/-16.1g (females, n=4) at 30-31d of age, and 562.3+/-43.2g (males, n=3) and 435.7+/-35.5g (females, n=4) at 45-46d of age. (3) Body cooling rate (C(rate) ( degrees C/min); n=80) was affected by the age (between 1 and 31d), BW, initial rectal temperature (T(r0)), and sex of the kits, in addition to their body posture (P(cold), 1=extended, 2=curled-up) during coldroom exposure. C(rate) ( degrees C/min)=-0.34-0.02age-0.002BW+0.05T(r0)-0.06sex-0.20P(cold) (R(2)=0.75). (4) Body warming rate (W(rate) ( degrees C/min); n=80) was influenced by the age(2) and rectal temperature of the kit after the coldroom exposure (T(r10)). W(rate)( degrees C/min)=1.24+0.0002age(2)-0.04T(r10) (R(2)=0.76). (5) Kit fur fibre length increased from 5.45+/-0.63mm (males, n=2) and 6.20+/-0.20mm (females, n=3) at 22-23d of age to 9.43+/-1.44mm (males, n=4) and 8.70+/-1.89mm (females, n=4) at 30-31d of age, and to 12.93+/-0.47mm (males, n=3) and 11.38+/-0.41mm (females, n=4) at 45-46d of age, the growth averaging about 0.26mm per day. (6) Under normal circumstances newborn mink kits are hypothermic.Their thermoregulation develops only gradually and is dependent on increase in body mass, insulation and behavioural thermoregulation. Their strategy of survival is based on the ability to withstand hypothermia and on the nutrition and warmth provided by the dam.  相似文献

In mink (Mustela vison) kits newborn mortality is very high. One of the major causes of death is hypothermia. The objectives of this study were to observe the development of thermoregulation in mink kits, and their ability to maintain their body temperature during the postnatal period (1-50 days of age). Based on the kit's body weight (BW), and rectal and ambient temperature measurements during cold (+4 degrees C) and warm (+40 degrees C) exposures, a homeothermy index (HI) and cooling and warming rates were calculated. No significant differences in the body temperatures were found between the kits and the dam after 36 days of age. The kits were able to maintain homeothermy by 22 days of age (HI 90%). The body cooling rate was 0.88+/-0.04 degrees C min(-1) on day 1 but only 0.35+/-0.03 degrees C min(-1) at 22 days of age. The body WR was lower: day 1, 0.85+/-0.04 degrees C min(-1) and 0.22+/-0.03 degrees C min(-1) at 22 days of age. All measured and calculated thermophysiological variables were significantly influenced by BW and age of the kit.  相似文献

Mink are seasonal breeders that display an obligate delay preceding implantation and a post implantation gestation of 31 d. The purpose of this study was to evaluate gestational parameters in mink by ultrasonography. A total of 92 female mink were mated twice during the period from March 2 to 20. The mink were scanned once and allowed to whelp (n=55); or scanned at 3 to 5-d intervals until parturition (n=13); or immediately subjected to autopsy (n=24) after scanning. Embryonic age was calculated from the date of parturition or from crown rump length. Uterine swelling diameter and fetal head size were correlated with embryonic age. The gestational sac grew rapidly once implantation had occurred. Uterine swellings of 4 to 5 mm in diameter were found on Days 2 to 4 post implantation and increased through Days 18 to 20, at which time they began to elongate due to the longitudinal growth of the fetus. Fetal cardiac activity could be detected on Days 10 to 12 post implantation in live embryos. The heart frequency was 198 +/- 3.0 beats per minute and did not vary from Days 12 to 30 post implantation. Fetal head diameter of 5 mm was first detected on Day 19 post implantation and grew gradually to 9 to 10 mm at parturition. It was not possible to accurately assess the number of conceptuses in utero. We conclude that ultrasonography can be employed in mink to diagnose pregnancy, to predict the parturition date and to determine the presence of live fetuses.  相似文献
