We examined the effect of post-prandial body posture on orocecal transit time and absorption of milk lactose using the breath hydrogen test. In this experiment, subjects ingested a cup of commercially available milk to which we had added a small amount of lactosucrose (an indigestible trisaccharide), and then they lay on their backs or sat on a chair for the first 4 hr (from 08:00 to 12:00). After four hours lying or sitting, they remained sedentary on a sofa for the second six hr (from 12:00 to 18:00). Participants' end alveolar breath samples were collected every 15 min from 08:00 to 12:30, then every 30 min from 13:00 to 18:00. The experiment was conducted on two consecutive days using a randomized, crossover study design. Examination showed that the orocecal transit time of the oligosaccharides (lactosucrose and milk lactose) under the post-prandial supine condition was significantly longer than that under the sitting condition. In addition, the amount of breath hydrogen excretion under the supine condition was significantly lower than under the sitting condition, indicating that the unabsorbed milk lactose moved into cecum under the supine condition is smaller than that under the sitting condition. These findings provide evidence that postprandial supine posture works more beneficially to digest and absorb milk lactose when compared to the sitting posture.  相似文献

Intestinal Ca and P absorption was investigated on rachitic chicks raised on diets with a 1% Ca and 0.3% or 1% P contents. 45Ca and 32P absorption was determined by the technique of the isolated gut sac in vivo. In addition, 32P transport was also measured by the everted gut sac procedure in vitro. Treatment with vit. D3 during 7 days increased the 45Ca absorption in animals fed diets containing 0.3% or 1% P. 32P absorption showed an increase after 2 days of treatment and a decrease afterwards. The reduction of 32P absorption was larger in animals fed diet with 1% P. Study of 32P transport with the everted gut sac technique showed an increase after vit. D3 and a loss of intracellular P, regardless the duration of treatment.  相似文献

Background

Our previous experiment showed that the light intensity exposed on the subjects during evening time had no effect in the following morning on the efficiency of the digestion and absorption of dietary carbohydrates ingested at a usual suppertime. People who keep late hours usually have a late suppertime; thus, we examined the effects of a late suppertime on gastrointestinal activity in the following morning in comparison to that of a usual suppertime.

Methods

Twelve female university students volunteered as paid participants. The breath hydrogen test was carried out to estimate the amount of unabsorbed dietary carbohydrates and the percentage of the total amount of dietary carbohydrates in the breakfast that were unabsorbed, as well as to estimate oro-cecal transit time. The respiratory quotient was also measured to find the ratio of carbohydrates/lipid metabolism in the post-breakfast state. Subjects’ peripheral blood glucose concentration was measured by a blood glucose meter. The subjects participated under two different experimental conditions: with a usual suppertime (having supper at 18:00) and a late suppertime (having supper at 23:00).

Results

The efficiency of the digestion and absorption of dietary carbohydrates in the breakfast under late suppertime conditions was higher than that under usual suppertime conditions. Usual or late suppertime had no effect on the ratio of carbohydrates to lipids oxidized after the subjects had breakfast. There were significant differences in the blood glucose level between the two conditions at 30, 60, 120, 150, and 180 minutes after having breakfast, whereas the mean blood glucose level under late suppertime conditions was significantly higher than under usual suppertime conditions.

Conclusions

Having a late supper showed a worse effect on postprandial serum glucose profiles the following morning. This study confirmed that keeping our usual meal timing is important for our health.  相似文献

The effects of mefenamic acid on the food-induced changes in intestinal carbohydrate metabolism were determined in an attempt to elucidate the mechanism(s) by which inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis enhances the postprandial increases in intestinal blood flow and oxygen consumption. The data show that when the luminal perfusate was changed from saline to a nutrient/bile solution, there was an increase in carbohydrate utilization, which was offset by absorption of glucose from the lumen. Intravenous administration of mefenamic acid significantly increased both carbohydrate absorption and metabolism when food was placed in the lumen. Changes in carbohydrate absorption and metabolism have been shown to play and important role in determining the magnitude of glucose induced changes in intestinal blood flow and oxygen consumption. Therefore, it is possible that the ability of mefenamic acid to enhance significantly the food-induced increases in blood flow and oxygen consumption may be due in part to its effects on intestinal carbohydrate absorption and utilization.  相似文献

By the short-circuit current method in our modification, kinetic constants for nutrient transporters in rat gastric-intestinal tract and unstirred layer thickness near mucosa surface, were studied. In experiments on rats it was shown that in ageing, the nutrient monomer transporters number in the small intestine increases twofold, while its affinity to correspondent nutrients remains unchanged. For the peptide the situation may be the opposite one. The layer thickness in the vicinity of mucosa surface measured by glucose decreased in ageing. It was suggested that in old rats the role of volume digestion is enhanced resulting in adapting increase of nutrient monomer transporters number.  相似文献

研究了饵料淀粉水平对饥饿后日本沼虾生长代谢的影响,探讨营养水平对日本沼虾补偿生长的作用.结果表明,在4 d饥饿后,饵料中20%、25%的淀粉水平能使日本沼虾达到完全补偿生长,机体代谢率高于对照组,而8 d的饥饿处理,各组日本沼虾的生长代谢均低于对照组,说明饥饿时间及恢复投喂后饵料淀粉水平对日本沼虾补偿生长有一定的影响.  相似文献

The effect of calcium supplementation on absorption and retention of cadmium in the suckling period was evaluated in Wistar rat pups of both sexes. Animals were maintained in the litters with the mother rats and supplemented with 1%, 3% or 6% calcium (as CaHPO4×2H2O) in cow's milk by artificial feeding from day of birth 6 through 14. All rats were exposed to cadmium (as CdCl2×H2O) either orally or parenterally. Oral cadmium dose of 0.5 mg/kg body weight a day was administered through nine-day period of calcium supplementation and parenteral cadmium dose was injected subcutaneously in a single dose of 0.5 mg Cd/kg body weight prior to calcium supplementation. On experimental day 10 (at the age of pups of 15 days) all animals were killed and the liver, kidneys, brain and carcass (body without organs and skin) were removed for element analyses. Cadmium and essential elements calcium, zinc and iron were analysed in the tissues by atomic absorption spectrometry. Results showed that after oral exposure cadmium concentrations in all calcium-supplemented groups were significantly decreased in the organs and carcass and that the effect was dose-related. No such effect of calcium was found after parenteral cadmium exposure. Calcium supplementation per se significantly increased calcium concentration in the carcass and had no effect on iron in organs and zinc in carcass. It was concluded that calcium supplementation during the suckling period could be an efficient way of reducing oral cadmium absorption and retention without affecting tissue essential trace element concentrations.  相似文献

AimThe present study aims to compare selenium (Se) status in offspring rats born to selenium-deficient and selenium supplemented dams and to analyse Se's influence on intestinal parameters and the intestinal absorption of selenomethionine (Se-Met).Main methodsMale and female Wistar rats (150–200 g) were randomised in: control (C) (0.1 ppm Se), Se-deficient (SD) (0.01 ppm Se) and Se-supplemented (SS) (0.5 ppm Se) groups; and were mated to obtain their offspring. Se levels in serum, urine and faeces in offspring and in mothers' milk were measured by graphite-furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. Duodenal transport studies in offspring were performed using an in vivo perfusion of different Se-Met concentrations (2, 5, 10, 25, 75 and 150 μM).Key findingA Se-deficient diet provoked a decrease in the offspring's body weight and intestinal parameters, while the supplemented diet increased these values. Serum Se levels were similar between Se-deficient and control offspring because the urinary excretion of Se was smaller to compensate for Se homeostasis. Intestinal Se-Met absorption obeys the Michaellis–Menten equation with lower apparent constant (Km) and maximal velocity (Vmax) in the SD group. However, the C and SS groups presented similar Km and different Vmax. The Vmax showed greater values in the following order of rank: SS > C > SD groups.SignificanceSelenium intake deficiencies in offspring lead to the development of compensatory mechanisms in order to normalise serum selenium levels. These mechanisms, however, do not permit normal body development; nor do they regulate intestinal parameters and Se-Met transport.  相似文献

Dietary triacylglycerols (TAGs) are the major lipid components in the human diet and they are carriers of energy as well as important fatty acids. Many factors affect the digestion and absorption of TAGs. Evidence is accumulating that, in addition to the overall fatty acid profile, the TAG structure and the species composition are of importance when considering the nutritional effects of a dietary fat. There is good evidence that in addition to its short-term effects in the intestine on absorption of fatty acids the TAG structure also has long-term effects resulting from differences in the profile of absorbed fatty acids. Observations on the different atherogenic potential of dietary fats have given us a clear indication of the importance of the TAG structure for absorption of saturated fatty acids. In this context, one may focus on the effects of the structure of dietary fats as such, or one may speculate additionally on the possibilities of modifying the structure of fats to affect their absorption and the distribution of the fatty acids in the body after digestion and uptake. In this review we will summarize diverse aspects of TAG digestion and absorption, as well as the influences of the fatty acid composition and the intramolecular structure of dietary TAGs on their digestion and absorption.  相似文献

We investigated the effect of the A-IV-2 allele, which encodes a Q360H substitution in apolipoprotein (apo) A-IV, and dietary fat on cholesterol absorption in humans. In three separate studies we compared fractional intestinal cholesterol absorption between groups of subjects heterozygous for the A-IV-2 allele (1/2) and homozygous for the common allele (1/1) receiving high cholesterol ( approximately 800 mg/day) diets with different fatty acid compositions. All subjects had the apoE 3/3 genotype. There was no difference in cholesterol absorption between the two genotype groups receiving a high saturated fat diet (33% of total energy as fat; 18% saturated, 3% polyunsaturated, 12% monounsaturated) or a low fat diet (22% of total energy as fat; 7% saturated, 7% polyunsaturated, 8% monounsaturated) diet. However, on a high polyunsaturated fat diet (32% of total energy as fat; 7% saturated, 13% polyunsaturated, 12% monounsaturated) mean fractional cholesterol absorption was 56. 7% +/- 1.9 in 1/1 subjects versus 47.5% +/- 2.1 in 1/2 subjects (P = 0.004). A post hoc analysis of the effect of the apoA-IV T347S polymorphism across all diets revealed a Q360H x T347S interaction on cholesterol absorption, and suggested that the A-IV-2 allele lowers cholesterol only in subjects with the 347 T/T genotype.We conclude that a complex interaction between apoA-IV genotype and dietary fatty acid composition modulates fractional intestinal cholesterol absorption in humans.  相似文献

Experiments in vitro on everted sacs of rat small intestine have shown that phloretin (an inhibitor of basolatheral glucose GLUT2 transporter) added from mucosal side of the sacs decreases release of glucose from enterocytes into serosal fluid without changing glucose accumulation in tissue of the preparations. Addition of phloridzin (an inhibitor of Na+ and glucose co-transporter SGLT1) from mucosal side inhibited both glucose accumulation in the tissue and its release into serosal fluid. Unspecific effects of phloretin and phloridzin on activities of several digestive enzymes (in particular, alkaline phosphatase, amino peptidase, and glycyl-L-leucine dipeptidase) has been revealed in homogenates of the rat small intestine mucosa. In chronic experiments on rats, absorption of glycine from the isolated small intestinal loop was inhibited in the presence of phloretin in perfusate. The obtained results indicate that the experimental approach of inhibition of glucose absorption by phloretin used from mucosal side in vitro appears to give a significant overestimation of contribution of facilitated diffusion (with participation of the GLUT2 transporter inserted in the apical enterocyte membrane) to glucose transport across this membrane. Thus, the role of the GLUT2 transporter in the mechanism of glucose absorption in the small intestine under its physiological conditions does not seem to be as great as it is thought by the authors of the recently proposed hypothesis.  相似文献
