Tchernobyl : le vrai, le probable et le faux

The Japanese earthquake and tsunami drew attention worldwide to nuclear power plant accidents and associated health risks. Since Chernobyl 25 years ago, several studies were published and we now have precise information concerning the long-term health of the population living near nuclear power plants and also in different European countries. The authors hope to bring some answers to the key questions from the public concerning radioactive units used and their significance, the evaluation of the number of radio-induced cancers within the different countries of Europe, other eventual health effects and the problem of possible congenital anomalies. Finally, French public perception on nuclear risk is examined and the feedback of the Japanese experience is evoked.

Relationships between benthos, drift, feeding rhythm and consumption rate of brown trout were investigated in an artificial stream in late spring. There are good correlations between insects activities and feeding rhythm of the trout. There are two feeding periods, the first one, more important, occurs at dusk and the second one in early morning. Daily ration is 6% of trout dry weight.

San Servolo, l’île des fous

A monastery was first constructed in San Servolo, an island situated between San Marco and the Lido, then a military hospital. Mad people from Venice were accommodated there from the Napoleonian period to the end of the 1970’s, when psychiatric hospitals were closed due to the “Basaglia law”. San Servolo hosts now an international university center and the Museum of Mental Hospital.
