Lomatium, the largest genus of Apiaceae in western North America, includes many narrow endemics whose relationships are uncertain. Although no infrageneric classification exists forLomatium, several informal groups have been recognized. TheEuryptera group comprises seven narrowly endemic species distributed primarily in California. We conducted parsimony and maximum likelihood (ML) analyses using sequences of the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA from species of theEuryptera group and several other species ofLomatium. When considered with distribution, morphological, and cpDNA data, the ITS analyses are consistent with the monophyly of theEuryptera group and suggests that speciation in this group has occurred through geographical divergence. Inferences from ITS data also identify putative progenitors of the polyploidEuryptera species. 相似文献

The palaeotropic pioneer tree genus Macaranga Thouars (Euphorbiaceae) is characterized by various types of mutualistic interactions with specific ant partners (mainly Crematogaster spp.). About 30 species are obligate ant-plants (myrmecophytes). We used amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers to assess phylogenetic relationships among 108 Macaranga specimens from 43 species, including all available taxa from the three sections known to contain myrmecophytes. Eight primer combinations produced 426 bands that were scored as presence/absence characters. Banding patterns were analyzed phenetically, cladistically and by principal coordinates analysis. Monophyly of section Pruinosae is clearly supported. There is also good evidence for a monophyletic section Pachystemon that includes the puncticulata group. The monophyly of section Winklerianae and relationships between the three sections remain ambiguous. Section Pachystemon is subdivided into four well-supported monophyletic subclades that presumably correspond to taxonomic entities. We acknowledge the support by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG Fi606/4-1, DFG We1830/2-1, 4-1 and 4-2), which in part was granted in the frame of the DFG-SPP 1127 Radiations: origins of biological diversity. We compare phylogenetic hypotheses for iguanian (chameleonids) and anguimorph lizard groups (varanoids, xenosauroids, anguids) which were generated from analyses of genital (hemipenial) morphology, with recent molecular phylogenetic approaches towards the same groups. Taxa with infraspecific communication by means of visible, sexually dimorphic epigamic characters usually have less diverse genital structures than taxa with less developed visible epigamic characters but with a more highly developed chemical intersexual communication. Generally, it turned out in the cases considered here, that phylogenetic hypotheses based on hemipenial characters coincide much better with molecular-genetic phylogenies than with earlier concepts based solely on external morphology. It seems that genital morphological characters are phylogenetically more informative – on both the species and the supraspecific level – than external morphological characters at least in these examples, because the former seem not to be affected by environmental selective pressures but seem to be only subject to sexual selection. Our data suggest that sexual selective pressure on genital structural diversity is higher the less sexually dimorphic, optical cues for infraspecific communication have evolved. They further suggest a correlation with the mating system (single versus multiple matings). 相似文献

Proteins with the A20/AN1 zinc-finger domain are present in all eukaryotes and are well characterized in animals, but little is known about their function in plants. Earlier, we have identified an A20/AN1 zinc-finger containing stress associated protein 1 gene (SAP1) in rice and validated its function in abiotic stress tolerance. In this study, genome-wide survey of genes encoding proteins possessing A20/AN1 zinc-finger, named SAP gene family, has been carried out in rice and Arabidopsis. The genomic distribution and gene architecture as well as domain structure and phylogenetic relationship of encoded proteins numbering 18 and 14 in rice and Arabidopsis, respectively, have been studied. Expression analysis of the rice SAP family was done to investigate their response under abiotic stress conditions. All the genes were inducible by one or the other abiotic stresses indicating that the OsSAP gene family is an important component of stress response in rice. Manipulation of their expression and identification of their superior alleles should help confer stress tolerance in target crops.Electronic supplementary material Supplementary material is available in the online version of this article at and is accessible for authorized users. 相似文献

The nucleotide composition and the contents of CpG and CpNpG in internal transcribed spacers 1 and 2 (ITS1 and ITS2) and the 5.8S rRNA gene of the nuclear genome were studied in two phylogenetic lineages of monocotyledonous angiosperms. The evolutionary advance of taxa by morphological characters proved to positively correlate with an increase in the contents of C, CpG, and CpNpG, contrasting the views that genome evolution in vertebrate and higher plants tends to decrease or, at least, preserve the amount of CpG and CpNpG, potentially subject to methylation, in nuclear DNA. Cryptaffinity taxa, which are intermediates between morphologically distinct taxonomic groups, displayed higher contents of CpG and CpNpG as compared with neighboring taxa. Changes in the contents of these elements in the regions of cryptaffinity taxa are intricate, suggesting a reciprocating character for their accumulation. Cryptaffinity taxa and their close phylogenetic relatives from the ancestral and descendant groups were assumed to reflect the key macroevolutionary changes and to correspond to saltatory periods separating the periods of gradual evolution. 相似文献
