Conservation tillage is an energy efficient and low cost tillage system to improve soil environment compared with conventional tillage systems. However, the rice residue management becomes an “impossible to achieve” task due to high soil moisture content at harvest time and the thickness of rice straw. Disc type furrow openers are used for both seed drilling as well as straw cutting during no tillage sowing. A study was conducted to evaluate the draft requirement and straw cutting performances of different sized furrow openers in no-till paddy soil conditions. Double disc furrow opener was tested on an in-field traction bench for three working depths, i.e. 30, 60 and 90 mm, and three forwarding speeds, i.e. 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 m/s. The draft and vertical forces on the disc were recorded with load cells. These sensors were connected to a data acquisition system developed with hardware and software. The results revealed that the size of the furrow opener, operating depth and the forwarding speed had significant effects (P<0.05) on the horizontal and vertical forces, and the straw cutting performance. Mean values of the draft were 648.9, 737.2 and 784.6 N for the opener with diameters of 330, 450 and 600 mm respectively, and the vertical forces for similar openers were 904.7, 1553.9 and 1620.4 N, respectively. Furthermore, the mean straw cutting efficiencies for the double disc opener with diameters of 330, 450 and 600 mm were 39.36, 78.47 and 65.46%, respectively. The opener with 450 mm diameter provided higher straw cutting efficiency as compared to 600 mm diameter disc, while lowest straw cutting efficiency was observed with 330 mm diameter disc. The 450 mm diameter opener provided the highest straw cutting efficiency (88.6%) at 90 mm working depth and expressed optimum performance compared with other furrow openers.  相似文献

By definition, follicle deviation begins on the day the two largest follicles of a wave begin to differ in growth rates. The relationships between follicle deviation and intrafollicular and systemic estradiol concentrations were studied in ponies, using a two-follicle model in which all but the two largest follicles were ablated. A 20-microliter sample of follicular fluid was obtained from each of the two follicles by transvaginal ultrasonography. In experiment 1, the two follicles were sampled when the larger follicle reached 15 mm. No differences (p > 0.05) in post-sampling follicle characteristics were found between control (n = 6) and sampled (n = 8) groups except that the growth rate was slower (p < 0.01) in the larger follicle between the day of sampling and the next day (0.7 +/- 0.7 mm per day) than in the controls (3.3 +/- 0.3 mm per day). The growth rates between 2 and 5 days after sampling were not different between groups. Follicular fluid estradiol-17beta concentrations were higher (p < 0.007) in the larger follicle (460 +/- 67 ng/ml; diameter, 16.4 +/- 0.4 mm) than in the smaller follicle (322 +/- 50 ng/ml; diameter, 14.6 +/- 0.6 mm). In experiment 2, the pair of follicles was sampled when the larger follicle reached 15 mm, 20 mm, or 25 mm (n = 5 per group). There were no significant differences among the three groups for day of deviation and diameters of larger and smaller follicles at deviation. The difference in diameter between the larger and smaller follicles was similar for the 15-mm (2.2 +/- 0.9 mm) and 20-mm (3.1 +/- 1.0 mm) groups, but the difference between follicles for the 25-mm group (7.9 +/- 1.2 mm) was greater (p < 0.004) than for the other two groups. In contrast, the differences in estradiol concentrations between the larger and smaller follicles increased (p < 0.0001) progressively for the 15-mm (13.0 +/- 86.8 ng/ml), 20-mm (722.0 +/- 173.8 ng/ml), and 25-mm (1873.5 +/- 310.3 ng/ml) groups. The first significant (p < 0.007) increase in systemic estradiol occurred between the day before and the day of the beginning of deviation. Detection of an increased difference in estradiol concentrations between the two follicles before the detection of a change in differences in diameter suggests, on a temporal basis, that estradiol is a candidate for involvement in the mechanism that leads to follicle-diameter deviation in mares.  相似文献

A detailed disc plate procedure is introduced for assay of antibiotics. The procedure is based on a previous study by the authors and deviates from conventional procedures in several respects: selected plastic petri dishes are employed; critical temperature control is simply provided at all stages of the test with refrigeration of the plates never used; all dilution is done with displacement microburettes; six pads (6.3 mm diameter) per dish are employed, all filled with the same unknown or reference solution; the sequence of all plates handled on 1 day is made a part of the protocol which allows accounting for the influence of the order of pouring and setting the plates; external reference plates are set at specified locations in the sequence; and, by averaging the diameters of all zones on a plate, most of the consequence of wedge shape of agar in plates, which is common and almost unavoidable, is removed. The present method is economical, uses simple facilities, and provides good accuracy of test results. Bacillus subtilis was most commonly employed, but other organisms may be employed in the present procedure.  相似文献

We aimed to assess the thermal profile and size of iceballs produced by Accuprobe cryoprobes in fresh porcine and human liver and human colorectal cancer liver metastases in vitro to allow better planning of cryosurgical treatment of liver metastases. Iceballs were produced by a 20-min single freeze cycle using 8-mm cryoprobes in pig liver in a waterbath at 37 degrees C (n = 8) and 3-mm cryoprobes in pig liver (n = 8), human liver (n = 3), and human colorectal cancer liver metastases (n = 8). The iceball diameters and the temperatures at different distances from the cryoprobe were measured. Mean iceball diameters produced by 8-mm cryoprobes in pig liver were 56.3 mm and varied from 38.7 to 39.6 mm for 3-mm cryoprobes in the different tissues used. There was no significant difference in iceball size in the different tissues. The diameter of the zone of -40 degrees C or less was approximately 44 mm using 8-mm cryoprobes in porcine liver and between 27 and 31 mm using 3-mm cryoprobes in the different tissues examined. The results may allow better preoperative planning of the cryosurgical treatment of liver metastases with Accuprobe cryoprobes.  相似文献

Purpose

To measure the distance between the optic disc center and the fovea (DFD) and to assess its associations.

Methods

The population-based cross-sectional Beijing Eye Study 2011 included 3468 individuals aged 50+ years. The DFD was measured on fundus photographs.

Results

Readable fundus photographs were available for 2836 (81.8%) individuals. Mean DFD was 4.76 ± 0.34mm (median: 4.74 mm; range: 3.76–6.53mm). In multivariate analysis, longer DFD was associated with longer axial length (P<0.001; standardized correlation coefficient beta: 0.62), higher prevalence of axially high myopia (P<0.001; beta:0.06), shallower anterior chamber depth (P<0.001; beta:-0.18), thinner lens thickness (P = 0.004; beta: -0.06), smaller optic disc-fovea angle (P = 0.02; beta: -0.04), larger parapapillary alpha zone (P = 0.008; beta: 0.05), larger parapapillary beta/gamma zone (P<0.001; beta: 0.11), larger optic disc area (P<0.001; beta: 0.08), lower degree of cortical cataract (P = 0.002; beta: -0.08), and lower prevalence of age-related macular degeneration (P = 0.001; beta: -0.06). Bruch´s membrane opening-fovea distance (DFD minus disc radius minus parapapillary beta/gamma zone width) in non-glaucomatous eyes was not significantly (P = 0.60) related with axial length in emmetropic or axially myopic eyes (axial length ≥23.5 mm), while it increased significantly (P<0.001; r: 0.32) with longer axial length in eyes with an axial length of <23.5mm. Ratio of mean DFD to disc diameter was 2.65 ± 0.30. If the ratio of disc-fovea distance to disc diameter was considered constant and if the individual disc diameter was calculated as the individual disc-fovea distance divided by the constant factor of 2.65, the resulting calculated disc diameter differed from the directly measured disc diameter by 0.16 ±0.13 mm (median: 0.13 mm, range: 0.00–0.89 mm) or 8.9 ± 7.3% (median: 7.4%; range: 0.00–70%) of the measured disc diameter.

Conclusions

DFD (mean: 4.76mm) increases with longer axial length, larger parapapillary alpha zone and parapapillary beta/gamma zone, and larger disc area. The axial elongation associated increase in DFD was due to an enlargement of parapapillary beta/gamma zone while the Bruch’s membrane opening-fovea distance did not enlarge with longer axial length. This finding may be of interest for the process of emmetropization and myopization. Due to its variability, the disc-fovea distance has only limited clinical value as a relative size unit for structures at the posterior pole.  相似文献

A variety of factors which might affect zone sizes were studied with strains of Corynebacterium diphtheriae; a standard disc method for antimicrobial sensitivity testing was used. Moderate variations in inoculum size, inoculum preparation, and pH of Mueller Hinton agar (MHA) did not appreciably affect zone sizes. The addition of blood to MHA was necessary to insure the growth of all C. diphtheriae strains on all lots of MHA. Zone diameters on MHA with blood were consistently 4 to 9 mm smaller than on plain MHA; however, zone diameters were within the sensitive range for seven antibiotic discs used on both media. Minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values for penicillin, erythromycin, and rifampin were determined by a plate dilution method. The geographical source, toxigenicity, and type of the strains showed no significant correlation with MIC values or zone diameters for eight antibiotic discs. When MIC values were compared to obtainable blood levels, all of the strains appeared to be sensitive with MIC values of 相似文献

Susceptibility of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to Carbenicillin   总被引:7,自引:4,他引:3       下载免费PDF全文
Ninety clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were examined for susceptibility to carbenicillin by the broth dilution and disc diffusion methods. Inhibition zone diameters varied at given minimal inhibitory concentration levels of the antibiotic. Nevertheless, the results obtained allowed the proposal of the following tentative criteria for the interpretation of inhibition zones. Pseudomonadaceae yielding zones of inhibition measuring at least 10 and 16 mm in diameter around 25-and 100-mug discs, respectively, are sensitive to this antibiotic when examined by the standardized Bauer-Kirby method of disc susceptibility testing. Isolates characterized by zones of less than 100 mm in diameter around 25-mug discs should be tested with 100-mug discs before they are reported as sensitive or resistant to carbenicillin.  相似文献

Background

Stress on the bone surrounding dental micro-implants affects implant success.

Purpose

To compare the stress on the bone surrounding a micro-implant after application of a single force (SF) of 200 g or a composite force (CF) of 200 g and 6 N.mm torque.

Materials and Methods

Finite element models were developed for micro-implant diameters of 1.2, 1.6, and 2.0 mm, and lengths of 6, 8, 10, and 12 mm and either a SF or CF was applied. The maximum equivalent stress (Max EQS) of the bone surrounding the micro-implant was determined, and the relationships among type of force, diameter, and length were evaluated.

Results

The Max EQS of the CF exceeded that of the SF (P< 0.05). The effect of force on stress was related to implant diameter, but not to implant length. The larger CF led to greater instability of the micro-implant and the effect was most pronounced at an implant diameter of 1.2 mm. The use of implant diameters of 1.6 mm and 2.0 mm produced no significant difference in implant stability when either a CF or SF was applied.

Conclusion

When considering the use of an implant to perform three-dimensional control on the teeth, the implant diameter chosen should be > 1.2 mm.  相似文献

Several factors are investigated that normally cause variation in zone diameters in conventional disc plate diffusion assay procedures. Of these factors the most serious is the unequal exposure of the individual plates at top or bottom of stacks to temperatures above and below room temperature. This unequal temperature exposure is avoided by novel handling and incubation procedures. A major variable, but one which can be controlled, is the varying time interval between pouring seeded agar and the time of applying the pads with antibiotic to the plates. This influence of time of setting and the effects of several other sequential operations are combined into a composite variable. This variable is then accounted for and normalized by interposing "external" reference plates set with a reference solution in the sequence of approximately 100 plates. No "internal" reference zones are employed. Such factors as volume of agar poured, wedge shape of agar in a dish, volumetric errors in dilutions, and timing considerations are studied and discussed. The results of this study form the basis for a test protocol which is presented in a following paper.  相似文献

The functional coupling between the declining portion of the FSH surge and the growing follicles of a wave was studied by treating heifers with a minimal dose of estradiol to decrease FSH concentrations without an associated change in LH concentrations. Estradiol treatment when the largest follicle reached >/= 6.0 mm (Hour 0) resulted in depression of both FSH concentrations and diameter of the largest follicle by Hour 8. The smaller follicles were also inhibited. These results supported the hypothesis that FSH continues to be needed by the growing follicles even when the FSH concentrations are decreasing during the declining portion of the FSH surge. Estradiol treatment when the largest follicle was >/= 8.5 mm (expected time of follicular deviation) also resulted in a transient decrease in both FSH concentrations and diameter of the largest follicle, but the diameters of the smaller follicles were not affected. These results supported the hypothesis that the low concentrations of FSH at the expected time of deviation, although inadequate for the smaller follicles, were required for continued growth of the largest follicle. In another study, ablation (Hour 0) of the largest follicle was done at >/= 7.5 mm vs. >/= 8.5 mm. The mean FSH concentrations for the 8.5-mm groups were greater for the ablation group than for the control group at Hours 8 and 12, but there was no difference between the 7.5-mm groups at any hour. These results supported the hypothesis that by the time the largest follicle reaches the expected beginning of deviation it has developed a greater capacity for suppressing FSH. It is postulated that the essence of the selection of a dominant follicle is a close two-way functional coupling between changing FSH concentrations and follicular growth.  相似文献

Summary The use of a rotative flat disc atomizer for the production of biocatalysts immobilized in alginate gel was investigated. The influence of viscosity (0.28 to 1.53 Pa · s), disc diameter (5 to 20 cm), flow rate (0.5 to 2 L/min) and rotational speed (1.6 to 5 rev/s) on drop formation mechanisms, bead diameter and their distributions were investigated. Bead diameters ranging from 1 to 3 mm were been obtained. Flow rate and viscosity increases resulted in higher bead diameters but increasing disc diameter and rotational speed had a decreasing effect. A viscosity of 0.65 Pa · s would prove best for production of beads with good size distribution and mechanical strength. Predictive equations for the mean volumetric bead diameter were determined.  相似文献

Rapid Sulfonamide Disc Sensitivity Test for Meningococci   总被引:7,自引:1,他引:6
Minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of 90 strains of Neisseria meningitidis were determined by a plate dilution technique that employed twofold changes in concentrations of sulfadiazine. The geometric mean of three MIC determinations on each strain was correlated with inhibition zones produced by a 300-mug sulfathiazole disc. The linear relationship between the logarithm of the geometric mean MIC values and the zone diameters was highly significant. Strains were separated into sensitive and resistant populations by both test procedures. Quantitative criteria for interpreting the sensitivity of a strain by the disc test were established.  相似文献

A laboratory experiment was performed which examined tradeoffs between production of mycelium and reproduction (using stipe dry weight as an estimator of spore production) in the coprophilous mushroom species Coprinus cinereus. Isolates of the fungus taken from a single dikaryotic mycelium were grown in Petri plates containing yeast extract agar. Plates varied in diameter and resource density, but the total volume of agar was kept constant. Isolates grown in 100 mm and 150 mm diameter plates produced significantly less mycelium compared to isolates grown in 60 mm diameter plates. Within 60 mm plates there was no correlation between the efficiency of mycelium production and fruit body production, but in larger plates there was a significant negative correlation between the two. These results indicate that isolates grown on larger plates were less efficient at using resources than isolates grown on small plates, and that mycelium production is curtailed on larger plates to maintain spore production.  相似文献

This study evaluates resorbable miniplate osteosyntheses in sagittal split osteotomies with major bone repositioning. Two resorbable 2.0-mm miniplate systems, MacroSorb (Macropore, San Diego, Calif.) and PolyMax (Synthes, Oberdorf, Switzerland), were compared consecutively. Amorphous 70:30 poly-L/DL-lactide copolymer plates sustain continuous hydrolysis through water penetration into the implant body during the first 6 months in situ. This breaks copolymer chains into smaller particles, which later become degraded through phagocytotic cells. Eighteen patients, 10 women and eight men, 16 to 57 years old (average, 27 years) were examined. They had severe dysgnathia caused by congenital craniofacial malformations, systemic disorders, trauma, amelogenesis imperfecta, oligodontia, and other conditions, and they needed five 8- to 10-mm and 13 major 10- to 12-mm repositions. Twelve sagittal split osteotomies were fixed with 12 MacroSorb plates in six patients, and 24 osteotomies were filled with 32 PolyMax plates in 12 patients. Ten mandibular plate, screw, hard-tissue, and soft-tissue specimens were taken at 3, 6, 9, or 12 months postoperatively in secondary operations (e.g., dental implant placement).Follow-up ranged from 4 to 19 months; all osteosyntheses reossified. Four patients showed proximal fragments rotated up to 5 mm sagittally anteriorly and nonaligned burr holes on the postoperative radiogram, suggesting plate fractures or screw pullout. When plate fracture was noted, guided occlusion was maintained 4 weeks after surgery. Occlusal, radiologic, and skeletal results remained stable. After starting fixation with two plates on each side, no more plate fractures were seen. In three other patients, minor skeletal relapses up to 3 mm horizontally resulted. Local histologic inspection of specimens showed thorough osseous union. Screw remnants embedded in bone made screw pullout unlikely; rather, screw-head or plate fractures were found as multiple degraded particles. Microscopy showed a chronic foreign body reaction. Two patients (11 percent) developed a sterile fistula 3 and 4 months after surgery, draining implant debris. Here, the biopsies showed a granulocytic infiltrate that subsided clinically after excisional biopsy. The assignment of MacroSorb plates followed by PolyMax plates was done in an otherwise unchanged treatment protocol. Comparison of the number of patients in each group with stable osteosyntheses and regular healing showed no significant differences by Fisher's exact test (p = 0.1516); therefore, the authors focused on the combined results for both treatments. The current osteosynthesis systems showed sufficient stability for mandibular fixation after sagittal split osteotomy and repositioning more than 10 mm distant when two plates were applied to each side; however, 27 percent of patients had complications, including relapses. Disadvantages were the cost, breakability, diameter, and need to place the screws vertically to the plate, necessitating a bent instrument or transbuccal incisions.  相似文献

Seventy-eight of 420 clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa yielded zones of inhibition of less than 12 mm in diameter around 10-mug discs of gentamicin sulfate when tested by the standardized Bauer-Kirby disc diffusion method. Of 153 strains chosen from these isolates, one strain (0.65%) required 25 mug of gentamicin per ml for inhibition; the remainder (99.35%) were inhibited by 6 mug/ml or less of the antibiotic. It is recommended that those isolates of P. aeruginosa that yield zones of inhibition less than 12 mm in diameter be disc susceptibility-tested once more; those isolates that give zones of inhibition of less than 12 mm upon repeated examination should then be subjected to the broth dilution test before they are designated as sensitive or resistant to gentamicin.  相似文献

Ting, Irwin P., and Walter E. Loomis. (Iowa State U., Ames.) Diffusion through stomates. Amer. Jour. Bot. 50(9): 866–872. Illus. 1963.—It is shown that the rule that diffusion through isolated, small pores is proportional to the diameter rather than the area of the pores is valid for pores of diameters as small as 20 μ, and that the curve extends to the origin at zero diameters, indicating that the law is effective throughout the range of stomatal sizes. Suggestions that an elliptical pore will be relatively more effective in diffusion than a circular one and that diffusion is concentrated at the periphery of the pore are not supported by experimental evidence and are physically improbable. Brown and Escombe's conclusion that there is no interference in the diffusion through the individual pores of a multiperforate membrane if the pores are spaced 10 diameters apart is not valid for diffusion through the stomates of a leaf. With pores of 200 μ and less spaced 10 diameters apart, interference increases rapidly with a smaller size and larger number of pores. As a result, the diffusion through a membrane with pores 19 μ in diameter and 190 μ apart was the same as that through a membrane with pores 132 μ in diameter and 1.32 mm apart, although the calculated capacity of the first membrane was 7 times that of the second. The diffusion of water vapor through multiperforate membranes with pores spaced 10 diameters apart has an apparent maximum of 65–70% of the diffusion through an open tube. Calculations of the effect of partial closing of stomates, using Verduin's equation for interference between pores, indicate that the theoretical diffusion capacity of 10 μ stomates spaced at 10 diameters would be increased several times by closing to an average diameter of 5 μ. This increase illustrates the dominant effect of interference in diffusion through small, closely spaced pores. Calculated diffusion through these stomates would not be decreased until they were more than 95% closed. It is concluded that stomatal opening will have no important effect on diffusion from or into a leaf until the stomates are essentially closed.  相似文献

The nature of emergence and deviation of follicles during follicular waves in cattle was studied in 3 experiments by re-examining data from previous projects. Wave emergence was defined as the day or examination (when more than 1 examination per day) the future dominant follicle was 4 mm (Day 0 or Examination 0). Deviation was defined as the beginning of the greatest difference in growth rates between the 2 largest follicles and between 2 consecutive examinations. The search for deviation in an individual wave was done retrospectively from the examination with the maximum diameter of the second largest follicle. In Experiment 1, follicles were assessed ultrasonically for 28 waves every 8 h. The number of examinations that encompassed the emergence of all growing 3-mm follicles was 10.0 +/-0.5 (mean +/-SEM; equivalent to 3.3 d) and extended from mean Examination -3.1 +/-0.3 to mean Examination 6.0 +/-0.6. A mean of 24 growing 3-mm follicles was found, and the maximal attained diameters were 4 mm (46%), 5 mm (25%), and >/=6 mm (29%). More (P<0.05) 3-mm follicles at Examinations -2 and -1 grew to >/=6 mm than to 4 or 5 mm, whereas more 3-mm follicles at Examinations 2 to 6 grew to only 4 mm. On average, the future dominant follicle appeared as a 3-mm follicle (Examination -2.1 +/-0.2) 6 and 10 h earlier (P<0.03) than for the largest (Examination -1.4 +/-0.3) and second-largest (Examination -0.8 +/-0.4) future subordinates, respectively. This result supported the hypothesis that the future dominant follicle has, on the average, an early developmental advantage. In Experiment 2 (n=33 waves), data were normalized to the day at the beginning of deviation (Day 2.8 +/-0.2) when the mean diameters of the dominant and largest subordinate follicle were 8.5 +/-0.2 mm and 7.2 +/-0.2 mm, respectively. This result suggests that the follicle selected to become dominant, as manifested by deviation, is the first follicle to develop to a decisive stage. In Experiment 3 (n=19 waves), FSH concentrations were lower (P<0.05) on the day at the beginning of deviation (8.5 +/-0.5 ng/ml) than on the day before (10.1 +/-0.8 ng/ml), with no continuing decrease after deviation. This temporal result suggests that the attainment of approximate basal levels of FSH is a component of the deviation mechanism.  相似文献

Adult dogwhelks, maintained on mussels for 60 days before experimentation to reduce prior effects of ingestive conditioning and handling skills appropriate to barnacles, and thence deemed “inexperienced”, preferred the largest barnacles presented to them. Juvenile and adult dogwhelks, maintained on barnacles and deemed experienced, preferred barnacles of intermediate sizes that were correlated with the sizes of the dogwhelks. “Inexperienced” dogwhelks penetrated barnacles significantly more often by drilling than by prising, whereas experienced dogwhelks did the reverse. A predominant tendency to prise open barnacles was developed by previously “inexperienced” dogwhelks after they had eaten six to eight consecutive prey. Larger dogwhelks prised open greater proportions of larger barnacles than did smaller dogwhelks. Experienced adult dogwhelks prised open all barnacles of ≈2-mm opercular diameter but only 20% of those ≈ 6 mm in diameter. The preferred barnacles, 4–5 mm in opercular diameter, were of a size that the experienced adult dogwhelks could prise open in 50% of attacks.Dogwhelks inspected barnacles by crawling over them for ≈20 min when the prey were subsequently rejected and ≈30 min when subsequently eaten. Penetration time and ingestion time were linear functions of barnacle diameter, total handling time ranging from 4–26 h for barnacles of 2.5–2.7 mm opercular diameter. Experienced dogwhelks handled barnacles faster than “inexperienced” dogwhelks, largely because they used the quicker method of penetration by prising whenever possible. The yield of flesh per unit handling time was an accelerating function of barnacle size and, with experience, could be increased by a factor of ≈1.2 for barnacles of 7 mm opercular diameter to ≈2.0 for barnacles of 2 mm opercular diameter. The preference of experienced dogwhelks for barnacles somewhat smaller than the largest available, may have reflected the greater frequency with which these prey could be penetrated by the quicker method of prising. Minimizing handling time could be important in nature if there is a risk to feeding dogwhelks of being displaced by competitors. In the laboratory, 12% of dogwhelks where thus displaced.Barnacles of ≈5 mm opercular diameter were estimated to be slightly more profitable than mussels of ≈17.5-mm shell length to a dogwhelk experienced with barnacles, but less profitable to a dogwhelk that has recently fed extensively on mussels. Dogwhelks, therefore, might switch between diets predominately of barnacles or of mussels if prey of comparable profitabilities change drastically in their relative abundance on the shore.  相似文献

Follicle diameters and concentrations of follicular fluid factors were studied in the two largest follicles (F1 and F2) using F1 diameters in increments of 0.2 mm (equivalent to 4 h intervals) and extending from 7.4 to 8.4 mm (12 heifers in each of 6 groups). Changes were compared between follicles using the F2 associated with each F1-diameter group. Diameter deviation began in the 8.2-mm group as indicated by a greater (P < 0.05) diameter difference between F1 and F2 in the 8.4-mm group than in the 8.2-mm group. In the 8.0-mm group, estradiol concentrations began to increase (P < 0.05) differentially in F1 versus F2, and free insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) began to decrease differentially in F2 (P < 0.06). Combined for F1 and the associated F2, activin-A concentrations increased (P < 0.05) between the 7.6- and 8.2-mm groups and then decreased (P < 0.05). Results supported the hypothesis that estradiol and free IGF-1 concentrations simultaneously become higher in F1 than in the associated F2 by the beginning of diameter deviation. Results did not support the hypothesis that a transient elevation in activin-A is present in F1 but not in the associated F2 at the beginning of the estradiol and IGF-1 changes; instead, a mean transient elevation in activin-A occurred at this time only when data for the two follicles were combined. Comparisons between F1 and F2 also were made by independently grouping F2 and using diameter groups at 0.2-mm increments for F2 as well as for F1. In the diameter groups common to F1 and F2 (7.4, 7.6, 7.8, and 8.0 mm) there was a group effect (P < 0.003) for estradiol involving an increase (P < 0.05) beginning at the 7.6-mm group averaged over F1 and F2. For free IGF-1 concentrations, a fluctuation (a significant increase followed by a significant decrease) occurred independently in F1 between the 7.4- to 7.8-mm groups and independently in F2 between the 7.0- to 7.4-mm groups.  相似文献

Controversy continues about the contribution of the veins to pulmonary vascular resistance. From data obtained in studies using intravascular catheters, it appears that a major fraction (up to 44%) of the total pulmonary vascular pressure drop resides in larger (greater than 1.0 mm diam) veins, whereas micropuncture data and various models give much less pressure drop. Theoretically, artifactual pressure drops can be obtained if an intravascular catheter partly obstructs the vessel. We made measurements of pressure in the same lung vein with two different-sized catheters (1.2 and 0.6 mm OD, respectively). In paired experiments the larger catheter always measured a higher pressure than the smaller one, except close to the large lobar vein outlet. In some of the experiments we measured the diameter of the vessel containing the indwelling catheter by freezing the lung and then serial-sectioned the frozen lung. From these data we could infer that the range of vein diameter in the which the smaller catheter measured a lower pressure was 1.5-4 mm. We conclude that the larger catheter overestimated the pressure because of greater obstruction. The pressures obtained with the smaller catheter suggest that little (less than 10%) of the total pulmonary vascular resistance resides in veins larger than approximately 1 mm diam under zone 3 baseline conditions.  相似文献
