A dual-band microstrip antenna operating at GSM 900 and GSM 1800 MHz is designed initially. Then a single split ring resonator (SRR) structure is used as a superstrate for this dual-band antenna. A circular current is induced in the SRR due to the perpendicular plane wave excitation, which in turn leads to an electric excitation coupled to the magnetic resonance. It also exhibits higher order excitations at 0.9 and 1.8 GHz which ultimately resulted in specific absorption rate (SAR) reduction of human head at both the designed frequencies of the antenna. The antenna and the SRR superstrate are printed on a 1.6 mm thick FR-4 substrate of dimension 59.6 × 49.6 mm2. Analysis of the SRR using the classic waveguide theory approach is discussed. Radiation pattern of the antenna in the presence of SRR superstrate and human head is also discussed. Prototype of the antenna along with the SRR superstrate is fabricated and measured for return loss and radiation pattern. Measurement results fairly agree with the simulated results. A human head phantom is utilized in the calculation of SAR.  相似文献

Human NK cells can be activated by a variety of different cell surface receptors. Members of the SLAM-related receptors (SRR) are important modulators of NK cell activity. One interesting feature of the SRR is their homophilic interaction, combining receptor and ligand in the same molecule. Therefore, SRR cannot only function as activating NK cell receptors, but also as activating NK cell ligands. 2B4 (CD244) is the only SRR that does not show homophilic interaction. Instead, 2B4 is activated by binding to CD48, a GPI-anchored surface molecule that is widely expressed in the hemopoietic system. In this study, we show that 2B4 also can function as an activating NK cell ligand. 2B4-expressing target cells can efficiently stimulate NK cell cytotoxicity and IFN-gamma production. Using soluble receptor fusion proteins and SRR-transfected cells, we show that 2B4 does not bind to any other SRR expressed on NK cells, but only interacts with CD48. Lysis of 2B4-expressing target cells can be blocked by anti-CD48 Abs and triggering of CD48 in a redirected lysis assay can stimulate NK cell cytotoxicity. This demonstrates that 2B4 can stimulate NK cell cytotoxicity and cytokine production by interacting with NK cell expressed CD48 and adds CD48 to the growing number of activating NK cell receptors.  相似文献

In small animal imaging studies, when the locations of the micro-structures of interest are unknown a priori, there is a simultaneous need for full-body coverage and high resolution. In MRI, additional requirements to image contrast and acquisition time will often make it impossible to acquire such images directly. Recently, a resolution enhancing post-processing technique called super-resolution reconstruction (SRR) has been demonstrated to improve visualization and localization of micro-structures in small animal MRI by combining multiple low-resolution acquisitions. However, when the field-of-view is large relative to the desired voxel size, solving the SRR problem becomes very expensive, in terms of both memory requirements and computation time. In this paper we introduce a novel local approach to SRR that aims to overcome the computational problems and allow researchers to efficiently explore both global and local characteristics in whole-body small animal MRI. The method integrates state-of-the-art image processing techniques from the areas of articulated atlas-based segmentation, planar reformation, and SRR. A proof-of-concept is provided with two case studies involving CT, BLI, and MRI data of bone and kidney tumors in a mouse model. We show that local SRR-MRI is a computationally efficient complementary imaging modality for the precise characterization of tumor metastases, and that the method provides a feasible high-resolution alternative to conventional MRI.  相似文献

Testicular sperm aspiration- (TESA) or micro-dissection testicular sperm extraction- (MD-TESE) combined intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) was the only option for non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) patients to have a biological offspring and they had different success rates in sperm retrieval. Our study aimed to find predictor(s) for predicting the sperm retrieval rate (SRR) in NOAs and guide clinicians in choosing different surgical approaches, TESA or MD-TESE for NOAs. 294 NOAs who had undergone TESA or MD-TESE were divided into TESA group and MD-TESE group. Depending on sperm retrieval, each group was divided into two subgroups: successful subgroups and failure subgroups. They respectively were 24 cases and 131 cases, 53 cases and 86 cases. Clinical data, including body mass index (BMI), testicular volume, and serum hormone levels, were analyzed in a retrospective manner. The results showed that follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels and SRR were lower in TESA group as compared to these in MD-TESE group, while testicular volume was higher (P < 0.05). The surgical approach of sperm retrieval significantly affected the SRR (P < 0.05). In TESA subgroups, testicular volume, FSH and LH differed significantly (P < 0.05). In MD-TESE subgroups, the level of FSH and LH differed significantly between both groups (P < 0.05). Using logistics regression, we found a negative correlation (β=-0.083) between FSH and the SRR in TESA group but a positive correlation (β = 0.064) in MD-TESE group (P < 0.05). In conclusion, serum FSH level can predict the SRR of NOAs and guide the clinicians while selecting the suitable surgery approach for NOAs.  相似文献

There is new and convincing evidence that the mammalian X chromosome, as well as the Y chromosome, contains an atypically high proportion of genes involved in sex and reproduction (SRR genes). Here we consider alternative explanations for this concentration. One possibility is that a particularly well-endowed autosome was "chosen" for a career as a sex chromosome. Alternatively, the high concentration of SRR genes may have resulted from the accumulation of these genes on the X after the degradation of the Y, either by transposition of autosomal SRR genes to a "selfish X", or by acquisition of SRR functions by widely expressed genes on the X. We suggest experiments to distinguish these possibilities, and speculate on the implications of gathering evidence that genes with other functions, too, are not distributed uniformly over the genome.  相似文献

A large portion of the annotated genes in Drosophila melanogaster show sex-biased expression, indicating that sex and reproduction-related genes (SRR genes) represent an appreciable component of the genome. Previous studies, in which subsets of genes were compared among few Drosophila species, have found that SRR genes exhibit unusual evolutionary patterns. Here, we have used the newly released genome sequences from 12 Drosophila species, coupled to a larger set of SRR genes, to comprehensively test the generality of these patterns. Among 2505 SRR genes examined, including ESTs with biased expression in reproductive tissues and genes characterized as involved in gametogenesis, we find that a relatively high proportion of SRR genes have experienced accelerated divergence throughout the genus Drosophila. Several testis-specific genes, male seminal fluid proteins (SFPs), and spermatogenesis genes show lineage-specific bursts of accelerated evolution and positive selection. SFP genes also show evidence of lineage-specific gene loss and/or gain. These results bring us closer to understanding the details of the evolutionary dynamics of SRR genes with respect to species divergence.  相似文献

Much is known about the biology of Drosophila melanogaster. As a model organism, a comprehensive understanding of its development, physiology and reproduction has been acquired. As a result, a broad variety of transferable genetic tools and information has allowed sibling species of the D. melanogaster complex to emerge as an important speciation model system. By comparing D. melanogaster with its close relative, Drosophila simulans, as well as its other sibling species, we are beginning to understand the nature of genetic changes during the early stages of speciation. In general, we find that genes and traits involved in sex and reproduction are more variable. A large assortment of genes and traits that are involved in various aspects of mating and fertility reveal diagnostic differences between these sibling species. Sex and reproduction-related (SRR) genes are, on average, more diverged than genes with no apparent reproductive function. Furthermore, SRR genes appear more permissive at opting in novel function. These results follow a general trend observed in other taxa and demonstrate the preferential involvement of SRR genes in reproductive isolation and species formation.  相似文献

Software-Defined Network (SDN) technology is a network management approach that facilitates a high level of programmability and centralized manageability. By leveraging the control and data plane separation, an energy-aware routing model could be easily implemented in the networks. In the present paper, we propose a two-phase SDN-based routing mechanism that aims at minimizing energy consumption while providing a certain level of QoS for the users’ flows and realizing the link load balancing. To reduce the network energy consumption, a minimum graph-based Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) approach is used in the first phase. It prunes and optimizes the network tree by turning unnecessary switches off and providing an energy-minimized sub-graph that is responsible for the network existing flows. In the second phase, an innovative weighted routing approach is developed that guarantees the QoS requirements of the incoming flows and routes them so that to balance the loads on the links. We validated our proposed approach by conducting extensive simulations on different traffic patterns and scenarios with different thresholds. The results indicate that the proposed routing method considerably minimizes the network energy consumption, especially for congested traffics with mice-type flows. It can provide effective link load balancing while satisfying the users’ QoS requirements.

The evolving manufacturing environment is characterized by a drive toward increasing flexibility. One possible manifestation of flexibility within an FMS is in the form of routing flexibility. Providing this typically is an expensive proposition, and system designers therefore aim to provide only the required levels commensurate with a given set of operating conditions. This paper presents a framework based on a Taguchi experimental design for studying the nature of the impact of varying levels of routing flexibility on the performance of an FMS. Simulation results indicate that increases in routing flexibility, when made available at the cost of an associated penalty on operation processing time, is not always beneficial. There is an optimal flexibility level, beyond which system performance deteriorates, as judged by the makespan measure of performance. It is suggested that the proposed methodology can be used in practice for not only setting priorities on specific design and control factors but also for highlighting likely factor level combinations that could yield near-optimal shop performance.  相似文献

Background

Adiponectin is an insulin-sensitizing hormone produced by adipocytes. It has been suggested to be involved in endometrial tumorigenesis. Published data have shown inconsistent results for the association between circulating adiponectin levels and endometrial cancer. In this study, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the predictive value of circulating adiponectin levels on the development of endometrial cancer.

Methods

PubMed, Embase, ISI web of knowledge, and Cochrane databases were searched for all eligible studies, and the summary relative risk (SRR) was calculated. Additionally, we performed dose-response analysis with eight eligible studies.

Results

A total of 1,955 cases and 3,458 controls from 12 studies were included. The SRR for the ‘highest’ vs ‘lowest’ adiponectin levels indicated high adiponectin level reduced the risk of endometrial cancer [SRR = 0.40, 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.33–0.66]. Results from the subgroup analyses were consistent with the overall analysis. The SRR for each 1 µg/ml increase of adiponectin indicated a 3% reduction in endometrial cancer risk (95% CI: 2%–4%), and a 14% reduction for each increase of 5 µg/ml (95% CI: 9%–19%). No evidence of publication bias was found.

Conclusions

This meta-analysis demonstrates that low level of circulating adiponectin is a risk factor for endometrial cancer.  相似文献

We report here the identification and characterization of a previously uncharacterized, two-component response regulator gene (orf19.5843) from Candida albicans. Because of its apparent functions in stress adaptation, we have named this gene SRR1 (stress response regulator 1). Disruption of SRR1 causes defects in hyphal development, reduced resistance to stress, and severe virulence attenuation in the mouse model of disseminated candidiasis.  相似文献

This article evaluates the performance of flexible manufacturing systems with finite local buffers and fixed or dynamic routing rules, and addresses the optimal design or system configuration problem of maximizing the system throughput. The costs include machine cost, part (or pallet) cost, and local buffers cost. First, the system throughputs and their behaviors are considered with both queueing network analysis and simulation, and it is shown for a fixed routing model that the system throughput in the case of finite local buffers is greater than in the case of infinite local buffers. For a fixed versus dynamic routing rule, it is also found that the throughput in the former case can be close to the one in the latter case by changing the setting parameters. Next, the design problems of maximizing the system throughput are considered numerically for fixed and dynamic routing cases. Then, it is seen that better combination of design variables is a class of the monotonicity in local buffers, service rates, and routing probabilities.  相似文献

Bacterial adhesion is a critical step for colonization of the host. The pioneer colonizer and commensal bacterium of the human gastrointestinal tract, Streptococcus salivarius, has strong adhesive properties but the molecular determinants of this adhesion remain uncharacterized. Serine‐rich repeat (SRR) glycoproteins are a family of adhesins that fulfil an important role in adhesion. In general, Gram‐positive bacterial genomes have a unique SRR glycoprotein‐encoding gene. We demonstrate that S. salivarius expresses three large and glycosylated surface‐exposed proteins – SrpA, SrpB and SrpC – that show characteristics of SRR glycoproteins and are secreted through the accessory SecA2/Y2 system. Two glycosyltransferases – GtfE/F – encoded outside of the secA2/Y2 locus, unusually, perform the first step of the sequential glycosylation process, which is crucial for SRR activity. We show that SrpB and SrpC play complementary adhesive roles involved in several steps of the colonization process: auto‐aggregation, biofilm formation and adhesion to a variety of host epithelial cells and components. We also show that at least one of the S. salivarius SRR glycoproteins is important for colonization in mice. SrpA, SrpB and SrpC are the main factors underlying the multifaceted adhesion of S. salivarius and, therefore, play a major role in host colonization.  相似文献

Sox2 is expressed at high levels in neuroepithelial stem cells and persists in neural stem/progenitor cells throughout adulthood. We showed previously that the Sox2 regulatory region 2 (SRR2) drives strong expression in these cells. Here we generated transgenic mouse strains with the beta-geo reporter gene under the control of the SRR2 in order to examine the spatiotemporal function of this regulatory region. We show that the SRR2 functions specifically in neural stem/progenitor cells. However, unlike Nestin 2nd intronic enhancer, the SRR2 shows strong regional specificity functioning only in restricted areas of the telencephalon but not in any other portions of the central nervous system such as the spinal cord. We also show by in vitro clonogenic assay that at least some of these SRR2-functioning cells possess the hallmark properties of neural stem cells. In adult brains, we could detect strong beta-geo expression in the subventricular zone of the lateral ventricle and along the rostral migrating stream where actively dividing cells reside. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assays reveal interactions of POU and Sox factors with SRR2 in neural stem/progenitor cells. Our data also suggest that the specific recruitment of these proteins to the SRR2 in the telencephalon defines the spatiotemporal activity of the enhancer in the developing nervous system.  相似文献

The impact of sediment coring on measured rates of sulfate reduction(SRR) by the whole core 35S-injection technique was assessed inmarshsediment vegetated by Spartina anglica. Simultaneously,therole of extraction method (centrifugation vs. sippers) for determination ofporewater DOC in vegetated sediment was evaluated. SRR was measuredinsitu with radiotracer injected directly into the sediment and in atime series from 1 to 24 h after coring. SRR incubations carriedout within 6 h (June) or 12 h (August) of coringyielded up to an order of magnitude higher rates than measured insitu. The enhancement of SRR was instantaneous but temporary andcorrelated with measured porewater DOC concentrations. Cores sampled fromrootedsediments should therefore not be used for sulfate reduction incubations withinthe first 12 h due to the effect of DOC leaching from roots cutduring the coring procedure. The labile fraction of leached DOC appears to beexhausted after a pre-incubation period of at least 12 h.Measurement of porewater DOC is also problematic in vegetated sediment.Porewater extraction by centrifugation of sediment may result in up to oneorderof magnitude higher DOC concentrations than in porewater obtained by anondestructive sipper technique. DOC is probably forced out of roots duringcentrifugation resulting in erroneously high porewater DOC concentrations.  相似文献
