A life-table was constructed for a little known aphidiid waspLysiphlebia mirzai, a parasitoid of cereal aphid,Rhopalosiphum maidis. The female parasitoid survived 6.4 ± 1.17 (SD) days and oviposited intensively 4.0 ± 0.47 days. The total fecundity rate, Rt, was 169.2 ± 6.94 mummies/female and net reproductive rate, Ro, was 92.70 female offspring/female. The intrinsic total fecundity rate, rt, and intrinsic rate of natural increase, rm, the finite rate of total fecundity, λt, and finite rate of increase, λm, was 0.27048, 0.24155, 1.31059 and 1.27322 respectively. The mean generation time (18.75 days) and doubling time of the population (2.87 days) was slightly higher than other aphidiids studied so far. The proportion of female progenies decreased significantly on the successive oviposition days.   相似文献

In the present studies, life table data and intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm) of the eulophid pupal parasitoid,P. furvus (Gahan) were obtained fromChilo partellus (Swinhoe) at a constant temperature of 26.7±0.6°C, 52.3±2.7% RH in the laboratory. Development of immature stages took 19.1±0.3 days; adult females lived for 7.9±3.3 (range, 2–13) days and produced a mean of 91.9±22.4 progeny per female, with a sex ratio of 1:2.9 (♂:♀). The intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm) was 0.2558/female/day; the net reproductive rate (R0), 237.25; the capacity for increase (rc) of 0.252; and the finite rate of increase (λ) of 1.29/female/day; thus, each female contributed 231.42 individuals to the population in a mean generation time of 21.38 days.   相似文献

The effects of temperature on population characteristics of Artemia parthenogenetica Gahai from the Gahai Salt Lake, Qinghai Province, China, were studied in the laboratory at a salinity of 60‰. The major conclusions are as follows: (1) it was found that the adaptive temperature for the development of brine shrimp ranged from 10℃ to 39℃. The threshold temperature of development (TD) and the effective accumulative tem-perature (TA) for hatching were 9.94℃·d and (22.91±2.08)℃·d, respectively. The TD and TA for the larva were 10.33℃·d and (261.26±24.1)℃·d, respec-tively, and for the whole generation were 10.28℃ and (458.68±57.60)℃·d, respectively. (2) It showed that the population's net reproduction rate (Ro), the intrinsic rate of natural increase (rm), the mean generation time (T), the finite rate of increase (λ), and the days for population to double (t) of the brine shrimp were determined over temperatures ranging from 19℃ to 34℃ by analyzing the life table and numerical model. In the temperature range of 14.3℃ to 37.3℃ for Ro> 1, the optimum temperature (℃) for Ro, rm,λ, and t were 25.8℃, 29.8℃, 30.5℃, and 29.02℃, respectively. The maximum values of Ro, rm and λ were 54.86 ind., 0.106138/d, and 1.1070/d, respectively. The minimum value oft was 4.73 d. The value of T was in a range of 96.77 to 16.10d. (3) Based on the 1993-1994 and 1997 data of the water temperature in the Gahai Salt Lake, Qinghai Province, it was estimated that the number of generation of A. parthenogenetica Gahai and the number of the reproductive peak value were 2.67±0.34 and 4.69±0.43 in a year, respectively. The peak of nauplii of the first generation was on April 20 to 28. The last whole generation began on August 10. The first reproductive peak was on June 18 to 25. The last reproductive peak was on September 12 to 17. The nauplii that hatched after September 1 cannot complete the development from nauplii to adults because of insufficient habitat effective accumulative temperature. During the period from July 11 to September 20, there was a relatively high productivity of the population. In this case, doubling the population would take less than 30 d, and the intrinsic rate of natural increase was over 0.02/d. Therefore, the value of resource exploitation would be maximal during that period annually.  相似文献

The effect of five constant temperatures (16, 22, 26, 31 and 36°C) on biological (survival and duration of developmental stages, fecundity and longevity of females, sex-ratio) and demographic parameters (R o , G, r m and λ) of the two main phytophagous mites that attack cassava in Africa,Mononychellus progresivus Doreste andOligonychus gossypii (Zacher), was studied in the laboratory. Experiments were performed simultaneously on the two mite species reared on the same cassava variety (1M20) under controlled conditions: 70±10% r.h. and 12L∶12D. The lower thermal threshold was 13°C forM. progresivus and 11°C forO. gossypii. Both species developed in the range from 22 to 36°C. The shortest development time was obtained at 31°C for both species; it was 7.2 days forM. progresivus and 8.2 days forO. gossypii. Maximum fecundity of both species was recorded at 26°C with 42.1 eggs forM. progresivus and 36.3 eggs forO. gossypii The highest intrinsic rate of increase (r m ) was obtained at 31°C for both species with 0.289 and 0.214 forM. progresivus andO. gossypii, respectively.  相似文献

Isotherms of the EtBr adsorption on native and denatured poly(dA)poly(dT) in the temperature interval 20–70°C were obtained. The EtBr binding constants and the number of binding sites were determined. The thermodynamic parameters of the EtBr intercalation complex upon changes of solution temperature 20–48°C were calculated: 1.0·106 M−1K≤1.4·106 M−1, free energy ΔG o=−8.7±0.3 kcal/mol, enthalpy ΔH o≅0, and entropy ΔS o=28±0.5 cal/(mol deg). UV melting has shown that the melting temperature (T m) of EtBr-poly(dA)poly(dT) complexes (μ=0.022,4.16·10−5 M EtBr) increased by 17°C as compared with the ΔT m of free homopolymer, whereas the half-width of the transition (T m) is not changed. It was shown for the first time that EtBr forms complexes of two types on single-stranded regions of poly(dA)poly(dT) denatured at 70°C: strong (K 1=1.7·105 M−1; ΔG o=−8.10±0.03 kcal/mol) and weak (K 2=2.9·103 M−1; ΔG o=−6.0±0.3 kcal/mol).The ΔG o of the strong and weak complexes was independent of the solution ionic strength, 0.0022≤μ≤0.022. A model of EtBr binding with single-stranded regions of poly(dA)poly(dT) is discussed.  相似文献

Thermal requirements for development and life table statistics ofAphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera, Aphididae) were determined over a range of constant temperatures from 10 to 30°C. The lower development threshold and the sum of effective temperatures were 6.9°C and 90.1°C, respectively, for preimaginal development, and 5.8°C and 113.6°C from birth to the onset of reproduction. Mean total fecundity ranged from 36 larvae per female at 10°C to 76 larvae at 30°C. On a time scale of days, net reproductive rate (R o ) increased with increasing temperature while generation time (T) decreased causing the intrinsic rate of increase (r m ) to increase linearly from 0.115 to 0.465. On a day-degree scaler m only varied from 0.019 to 0.028 because the growth ofR o was compensated by an increase inT with increase in temperature. The nearly constantr m in terms of day-degrees, over a wide range of temperatures, greatly simplifies the prediction of future population numbers ofA. gossypii.  相似文献

This study establishes the bioenergetics budget of juvenile whitespotted bamboo shark Chiloscyllium plagiosum by estimating the standard metabolic rate (RS), measuring the effect of body size and temperature on the RS, and identifying the specific dynamic action (RSDA) magnitude and duration of that action in juvenile whitespotted bamboo sharks. The mean ±s .d . (RS) of six fish (500–620 g) measured in a circular closed respirometry system was 30·21 ± 5·68 mg O2 kg?1 h?1 at 18° C and 70·38 ± 14·81 mg O2 kg?1 h?1 at 28° C, respectively. There were no significant differences in RS between day and night at either 18 or 28° C (t‐test, P > 0·05). The mean ±s .d . Q10 for 18–28° C was 2·32 ± 0·06 (n = 6). The amount of oxygen consumed per hour changed predictably with body mass (M; 295–750 g) following the relationship: (n = 40, r2= 0·92, P < 0·05). The mean magnitude of RSDA was 95·28 ± 17·55 mg O2 kg?1 h?1. The amount of gross ingested energy (EI) expended as RSDA ranged from 6·32 to 12·78% with a mean ±s .d . of 8·01 ± 0·03%. The duration of the RSDA effect was 122 h. The energy content of juvenile whitespotted bamboo shark, squid and faeces determined by bomb calorimeter were 19·51, 20·3 and 18·62 kJ g dry mass?1. A mean bioenergetic budget for juvenile whitespotted bamboo sharks fed with squid at 18° C was 100C = 29·5G + 31·9RS+ 28·2RSDA+ 6·7F + 2·1E + 1·6U, where C = consumption, G = growth, F = egestion, E = excretion and U = unaccounted energy.  相似文献

The marcoalga Ulva pertusa was cultured under (20 ± 2)°C, (20 ± 4)°C, (20 ± 6)°C, (20 ± 8)°C and (20 ± 10)°C circadian rhythms of fluctuating temperature conditions, and constant temperature of 20°C was used as the control. The growth rate of macroalga at (20 ± 2)°C, (20 ± 4)°C and (20 ± 6)°C were significantly higher than that at constant temperature of 20°C, while growth rate at (20 ± 8)°C and (20 ± 10)°C were significantly lower than that at constant temperature of 20°C. The growth rate of macroalga was a quadratic function of the thermal amplitude. Such a growth model can be described by G = β 0 + β 1(TA) + β 2(TA)2, where G represents the relative growth rate, TA is thermal amplitude in degree Celsius, β 0 is the intercept on the G axis, and β 1 and β 2 are the regression coefficients. The optimal thermal amplitude for the growth of thallus at mean temperature of 20°C was estimated to be ± 3.69°C. Analysis of biochemical composition at the final stages of thaulls growth revealed that diel fluctuating temperature caused various influences (P < 0.05). The content of chlorophyll, protein and total solute carbohydrate at (20 ± 2)°C and (20 ± 4)°C were slightly higher than those at constant temperature of 20°C, however no statistically significant differences were found among them (P > 0.05). While osmolytes (total solute carbohydrate and free proline) at (20 ± 10)°C were significantly higher than that at 20°C (P < 0.05). Therefore, more chlorophyll and carbohydrate production might account for the enhancement in the growth of macroalga at the diel fluctuating temperatures in the present study. Handling editor: S. M. Urolepis rufipes Ashmead, a recently discovered parasitoid of house flies at New York dairies, was reared at 15, 20, 25, 30 and 34°C to measure daily fertility, fecundity and adult survivorship. Little reproduction occurred at 15°C, and only a few ♀ successfully emerged at 34°C. The intrinsic rate of growth was fastest at 30°C (0.282 ♀/day), but fecundity was highest at 25°C (165.5 hosts attacked, producing 124.5 progeny). Some reproductive statistics at 25°C were: net reproductive rate (R0=72.1 ♀/♀, generation time =18.7 days, intrinsic rate of increase (rm)=0.228, finite rate of increase (λ)=1.26, daily birth rate =0.302, daily death rate =0.021 and Fisher's reproductive value =418. Sex ratio (average =75.9%) did not vary significantly with temperature (between 20–30°C) nor with mother's age.   相似文献

In short-term field trials at combinations of ambient temperature (°C) and insolation (W·m−2), larval Colorado potato beetles (Leptinotarsa decemlineata [Say] [Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae]) were observed after their release on the adaxial surface of leaflets on potato plants (Solanum tuberosum L. Solanaceae). The larvae either began feeding or moved under the leaflet; mean interval from release to expression of these behaviors (2.9±0.05 min [n =358]) was independent of air temperature and insolation. Proportion of larvae moving under the leaflet increased logistically with both air temperature and insolation. A 1 W·m−2 change in insolation (P) evoked the same effect on this proportion as a 0.0838 °C change in air temperature (T a ), so the two quantities were combined as T*=T a +P·0.0838 °C/(W·m−2), which has units of °C. The proportion of larvae moving under the leaflet increased logistically with T*. In 1-day field trials we monitored air temperature, insolation and proportion of larvae under the leaflet, and compared the latter to predictions from the logistic regression derived from the short-term trials. Consistently more larvae occurred under leaflets than predicted from the logistic regression; this bias diminished as T* increased until at T*≥40 °C, observed and predicted proportions were equal. This pattern of deviation from the predictions of the logistic regression is consistent with a thermoregulatory strategy in which larvae move away from hostile conditions, rather than seek optimal conditions.  相似文献

The oxygen consumption rate during embryogenesis of Acartia tonsa subitaneous eggs were measured at different temperatures (10, 15, 17, 21, 24 and 28°C) with nanorespirometry. The oxygen consumption was constant during the embryogenesis but increased rapidly at hatching time. The mean ± SD oxygen consumption rate increased exponentially with temperature and ranged from 0.09 ± 0.04 (10°C) to 0.54 ± 0.09 nmol O2 egg−1 h−1 (28°C). The mean ± SD Q10-value was 2.51 ± 0.15. Calculations of energy consumption during embryogenesis ranged from 1.86 to 18.28 mJ depending on temperature and development time. We conclude that the effect of temperature on oxygen consumption rate was far less important than the prolonged development time when calculating the energy consumed during embryogenesis.  相似文献

The developmental rate and reproductive biology of Neoseiulus californicus, a generalist predator on spider mites and small insects, was investigated in the laboratory at five constant temperatures: 15, 20, 25, 30, and 34°C. The European red mite, Panonychus ulmi, an important pest in Korean apple orchards, was used as prey. Mean developmental time and adult longevity were inversely related to temperature from 15 to 30°C. Lifetime fecundity was greatest at 25°C, whereas daily fecundity was highest at 30°C. The sex ratio (female to male) was highest (0.77) at 25°C and lowest (0.67) at 34°C. Survivorship during immature development varied from 74.3 to 92.9%, with the lowest rate at 34°C. Life table parameters were analyzed and pseudo-replicates for the generation time (t G ), the intrinsic rate of natural increase (r m), finite rate of increase (λ), net reproductive rate (R 0), and doubling time (t D ) were generated using the Jackknife method. Generation time (t G ) was lowest (10.7 days) at 34°C, R 0 was highest (49.2) at 25°C, and both r m (0.29) and λ (1.34) were highest at 30°C. In conclusion, the development and adult life-history traits obtained for N. californicus fed on P. ulmi indicated significant potential for biological control.  相似文献

The critical thermal maxima (TMAX) of threadfin shad Dorosoma petenense exposed to standardized stress (30 s handling in a dip‐net), simulating stressors endured during fish loading before transport, were measured over a range of holding temperatures (15, 20 and 25° C). Dorosoma petenense TMAX showed a significant thermal effect, displaying mean ±s.d . critical thermal maxima of 26·5 ± 1·6, 30·9 ± 1·2 and 33·3 ± 1·4° C, when tested at temperatures of 15, 20 and 25° C, respectively. Dorosoma petenense TMAX levels were also affected by stress, with handled fish showing significantly lower values than control fish exposed to 15 (mean ±s.d . TMAX = 25·6 ± 2·0° C), 20 (27·6 ± 2·8° C) and 25° C (32·0 ± 2·6° C). In addition to providing basic information on D. petenense thermal tolerance, experimental results suggest that fishery managers should consider the whole suite of potential stressors, such as air exposure during handling and fish loading, when developing management criteria.  相似文献

Many populations of shortnose sturgeon, Acipenser brevirostrum, in the southeastern United States continue to suffer from poor juvenile recruitment. High summer water temperatures, which may be exacerbated by anthropogenic activities, are thought to affect recruitment by limiting available summer habitat. However, information regarding temperature thresholds of shortnose sturgeon is limited. In this study, the thermal maximum method and a heating rate of 0.1°C min−1 was used to determine critical and lethal thermal maxima for young-of-the-year (YOY) shortnose sturgeon acclimated to temperatures of 19.5 and 24.1°C. Fish used in the experiment were 0.6 to 35.0 g in weight and 64 to 140 days post hatch (dph) in age. Critical thermal maxima were 33.7°C (±0.3) and 35.1°C (±0.2) for fish acclimated to 19.5 and 24.1°C, respectively. Critical thermal maxima significantly increased with an increase in acclimation temperature (p < 0.0001). Lethal thermal maxima were 34.8°C (±0.1) and 36.1°C (±0.1) for fish acclimated to 19.5 and 24.1°C, respectively. Lethal thermal maxima were significantly affected by acclimation temperature, the log10 (fish weight), and the interaction between log10(fish weight) and acclimation temperature (p < 0.0001). Thermal maxima were used to estimate upper limits of safe temperature, thermal preferences, and optimal growth temperatures of YOY shortnose sturgeon. Upper limits of safe temperature were similar to previous temperature tolerance information and indicate that summer temperatures in southeastern rivers may be lethal to YOY shortnose sturgeon if suitable thermal refuge cannot be found.  相似文献

A heat-conduction calorimeter has been developed for measuring small changes in heat capacity of milligram samples of membrane lipid dispersed in water as a function of temperature. The operation of the instrument is based on the principle that the thermal response of the sample to a short (10 s), electrically generated heat burst is a function of the diffusivity of the sample. Modeling studies of the instrument's performance have revealed that the output response after the heat burst is a function of only the heat capacity, ϱCp. Calibration of the instrument experimentally confirmed this behavior. This feature obviated the need to measure the thermal conductivity in order to determine ϱCp from the diffusivity equation, η = γ/ϱCp. The calorimeter has the following characteristics: reproducibility of loading: ± 400 μJ/C° · cm3; baseline stability: ± 10 μJ/C° · cm3 per 36 h; resolution (± 1 S.D.): ± 50 μJ/C° · cm3; sample size 600 μl.  相似文献

RecombinantEscherichia coli strain harboring the λp R-p L promotor and heterologus poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) biosynthesis genes was used to investigate the effect of culture conditions on the efficient PHB production. The expression ofphb genes was induced by a temperature upshift from 33°C to 38°C. The protein expression levels were measured by using two-dimensional electrophoresis, and the enzyme activities were also measured to understand the effect of culture temperature, carbon sources, and the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration on the metabolic regulations. AcetylCoA is an important branch point for PHB production. The decrease in DO concentration lowers the citrate synthase activity, thus limit the flux toward the TCA cycle, and increase the flux for PHB production. Since NADPH is required for PHB production, the PHB production does not continue leading the overproduction of acetate and lactate. Based on these observations, a new operation was considered where DO concentration was changed periodically, and it was verified its usefulness for the efficient PHB production by experiments.  相似文献

The predatory mite Typhlodromus bagdasarjani Wainstein and Arutunjan (Acari: Phytoseiidae) is an indigenous and widespread species of the Middle East fauna. In this paper we assess the effect of temperature on developmental rate and reproduction potential of T. bagdasarjani under laboratory conditions. The development of this species was determined at 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 37.5 ± 1°C, 60 ± 10% RH and L16:D8 h photoperiod. The total developmental time averaged 28.2, 15.0, 8.9, 7.6, 7.2 and 7.4 days at 15–37.5°C, respectively, when feeding on immature stages of two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch. The lower developmental threshold (T 0 ) and thermal constant (K) for the development of this predator were estimated 9.2°C and 162 degree-days by the Ikemoto linear model. The life table parameters were estimated at 15–35°C. The shortest life span of females at 35°C was 45.0 days, followed by 50.7, 50.9, 103.3 and 136.8 days at 30, 25, 20 and 15°C, respectively. Mated females laid on average 19.9, 26.3, 41.1, 39.6 and 31.3 eggs per female at 15–35°C, respectively. The intrinsic rate of increase (r m ) and finite rate of increase (λ) increased significantly with increasing temperature. The r m values ranged from 0.021 (15°C) to 0.186 (35°C) days−1. The highest value of net reproductive rate (R 0) was 13.6 females progeny/female/generation at 25°C. The results demonstrated that T. bagdasarjani is well adapted to high temperatures. However, the efficiency to control spider mites may be affected by behavioral characteristics of the predator and its prey under real conditions.  相似文献

Oxygen consumption rates of nauplii of the brine shrimp Artemia franciscana Kellogg 1906 were determined over a range of salinities from 10 to 110 ppm, in temperatures from 0 to 30°C, using a multi-factorial design. The oxygen micro-sensors employed have a fast response time and are capable of accurately measuring oxygen concentrations at temperatures well below 0°C. Oxygen uptake rate ranged from 0.03 to 0.66 μmol O2 mg−1 h−1 and was sensitive to changes in both salinity and temperature. Temperature was the dominant factor affecting oxygen consumption rates, which showed a significant increase with increasing temperature. A slight decrease was measured in oxygen consumption with increasing salinity related to differential solubility of oxygen in waters of different salinities. Thermal sensitivity of oxygen consumption determined from calculations of Q 10, indicated physiological adaptation of Artemia nauplii to the ranges of temperatures tested. Development, survival, fecundity, progeny sex ratio (PSR) and age-specific life-table parameters of the parasitoid Campoletis chlorideae Uchida (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) were examined at six different constant temperatures (12, 17, 22, 27, 32 and 37°C) in the laboratory [70 ± 10% RH and 10:14 h (light:dark) photoperiod]. Second instar larvae of Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) were reared on chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) and used as the host. Development times shortened as the temperature increased from 12 to 37°C. The estimated lower developmental threshold (tL) was 3.4°C. The thermal summation for total immature stages was 379.97 degree-days. A reciprocal relationship between temperature and longevity was observed in the range of 12–17°C. The maximum mortality of pupae (71.8%) occurred at 37°C. At 22°C, the yield of a female parasitoid averaged 137.3 ± 14.7 (mean ± SD) progeny, of which 89.6 ± 7.6 were daughters. The number of daughters produced decreased when the females were kept either above or below 22°C, although the PSR was female biased in the range of 17–27°C. The analyses of life-table parameters, developmental rates, reproduction, mortality and PSR suggest that maximum population growth (r m ) is near 27°C. There was little variation observed in most of the desired qualities of C. chlorideae in the range of 17–27°C, and it appears that the parasitoid is adapted to a wide range of temperatures. We suggest that for maximum production the parasitoid should be reared at 22 ± 4°C and be released in areas where the temperature ranges between 17° and 27°C, as in the plains of northern India.  相似文献

The main finding of this study was that measuring maximum heart rate during incremental warming was an effective tool to estimate upper thermal limits in three small cyprinid Danio species, which differed significantly. Arrhenius breakpoint temperature for maximum heart rate, purportedly an index of optimum temperature, was 21·2 ± 0·4, 20·1 ± 0·4 and 18·9 ± 0·8° C (mean ± s.e .) for zebrafish Danio rerio, pearl danio Danio albolineatus and glowlight danio Danio choprae, respectively. The temperature where cardiac arrhythmias were first induced during warming (Tarr) was 36·6 ± 0·7, 36·9 ± 0·8 and 33·2 ± 0·8° C (mean ± s.e .) and critical thermal maximum (TCm) was 39·9 ± 0·1, 38·9 ± 0·1 and 37·2 ± 0·1° C (mean ± s.e .) for D. rerio, D. albolineatus and D. choprae, respectively. The finding that Tarr was consistently 3–4° C lower than TCm suggests that collapse of the cardiac life support system may be a critical trigger for upper temperature tolerance. The upper thermal limits established here, which correlate well with a broad natural environmental temperature range for D. rerio and a narrow one for D. choprae, suggest that upper thermal tolerance may be a genetic trait even among closely related species acclimated to common temperatures.  相似文献
