In the extent to which it is used, the concept of the potential natural vegetation (PNV) is one of the most successful novelties in vegetation science over the last decades. However, previous applications of the concept have shown that the theoretical principles were used inconsistently or interpreted in an incorrect sense. The present problems in application (which become evident when visualizing historical aspects of the concept) mainly result from (a) inconsistent treatment of the construction criteria; (b) failure to distinguish between the “potential natural vegetation”, the “reconstructed natural vegetation” and the vegetation developing during succession, (c) the lack of a precise definition for reference terms to construct potential natural vegetation (e.g. treating reversible vs. irreversible changes of vegetation). For a sensible application of the concept it is suggested (a) to construct the potential natural vegetation on the basis of natural site conditions as well as permanently effective site changes as a consequence of human impact, (b) to consider the PNV to be in balance with all site conditions taken as basis for its construction. In practice, however, the construction basis may also derive from a particular question underlying the making of a PNV-map. A suggestion for a re-definition of the term “potential natural vegetation” as well as a key for PNV-mapping (valid for landscapes of Northern Germany) are given.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to estimate genetic parameters for natural antibody isotypes immunoglobulin (Ig) A, IgG1 and IgM titers binding the bacterial antigens lipopolysaccharide, peptidoglycan and the model antigen keyhole limpet hemocyanin in Dutch Holstein‐Friesian cows (= 1695). Further, this study included total natural antibody titers binding the antigens mentioned above, making no isotype distinction, as well as total natural antibody titers and natural antibody isotypes IgA, IgG1 and IgM binding lipoteichoic acid. The study showed that natural antibody isotype titers are heritable, ranging from 0.06 to 0.55, and that these heritabilities were generally higher than heritabilities for total natural antibody titers. Genetic correlations, the combinations of total natural antibody titers and natural antibody isotype titers, were nearly all positive and ranged from ?0.23 to 0.99. Strong genetic correlations were found between IgA and IgM. Genetic correlations were substantially weaker when they involved an IgG1 titer, indicating that IgA and IgM have a common genetic basis, but that the genetic basis for IgG1 differs from that for IgA or IgM. Results from this study indicate that natural antibody isotype titers show the potential for effective genetic selection. Further, natural antibody isotypes may provide a better characterization of different elements of the immune response or immune competence. As such, natural antibody isotypes may enable more effective decisions when breeding programs start to include innate immune parameters.  相似文献

The P-M system of hybrid dysgenesis inDrosophila melanogaster was investigated on the basis of gonadal dysgenesis, using 1,590 strains from 28 natural populations in Japan, and 20 populations from Southeast Asia, the Pacific area and Africa. Strong P strains were found sporadically in several populations in Japan. Few strong M strains were observed. Q strains were present at a high frequency in most populations. Thus, most populations in these areas were regarded as Q populations. The distribution of the P element and the evolution of P, Q and M populations are also discussed.  相似文献

Microbial natural products among other functions they play a vital role in the disease prevention in humans, animals and plants. Pseudomonas parafulva CRS01-1 is a broad-spectrum antagonistic bacterium present in plants. However, no natural products have been isolated from this strain till date. Corresponding biosynthetic gene clusters to natural products is an effective method for bioprospecting, for which, genome manipulation tools are essential. We previously developed Pseudomonas-specific phage-derived homologous recombination systems for genetic engineering in four Pseudomonas species. Herein, we report the application of these recombineering systems in Pseudomonas parafulva CRS01-1, along with structural elucidation and bioactivity evaluation of natural products. The Pseudomonas recombineering toolbox established before in different four species is efficient for genome mining and bioactive metabolite discovery from more distant species.  相似文献

The term fragmentomics is grounded and defined. Theoretical structure-function analysis of all possible fragments of a protein molecule was performed under the concept of fragmentomics to determine the regions that could be potential sources of regulatory oligopeptides. For this purpose, we used the data on the primary structure of bovine hemoglobin, the information contained in the EROP-Moscow database on the structures and functions of natural oligopeptides, and a specialized software package. This analysis revealed natural nonhemoglobin oligopeptides containing hemoglobin fragments and natural oligopeptides with the structure precisely coinciding with hemoglobin fragments. The most abundant of them are neuropeptides, antimicrobial oligopeptides, and hormones. It was demonstrated that the tetrapeptide and larger fragments of hemoglobin identified in nonhemoglobin oligopeptides and possessing a mentioned activity are present in the amino acid sequences of experimentally determined hemoglobin oligopeptides with the same function. The proposed approach allowed us to discover new potentially active sites in the hemoglobin amino acid sequence not yet studied experimentally. The possibility of natural formation of regulatory oligopeptides from hemoglobin molecules and other food proteins is discussed, as well as the generation of an exogenous oligopeptide pool in the gastrointestinal tract, and how the results match the concept of natural continuum of regulatory oligopeptides.  相似文献

The deterministic dynamical theory of biological populations, developed widely on the basis of the classical work of Fisher and Volterra, in most cases deals with characteristics which cannot be measured directly, e.g. frequencies of various genotypes within a population, their fitness values, competition coefficients, etc. Thus, a theory dealing with a small number of simple averaged macro-characteristics, easily accessible to a direct measurement, would be of great importance. The present paper contains an attempt to establish an equation contributing to such a would-be macrotheory. It is a relationship begween the average fitness of a population (the Malthusian growth parameter), the selective delay (a new concept, introduction in section 3) and the entropy of the equilibrium structure which the population tends to under the natural selection process. A possible method of checking the proposed relationship experimentally is indicated.  相似文献

Summary From the present experiments it may be concluded that in the surroundings of natural gas leaks, methane, ethane and possibly some other components of the natural gas are oxidized by microbial activities as long as oxygen is available. This is demonstrated by an increased oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production, as well as by increased numbers of different types of bacteria. The resulting deficiency of oxygen, the excess of carbon dioxide, and perhaps the formation of inhibitory amounts of ethylene, are considered to be mainly responsible for the death of trees near natural gas leaks. Also the long period of time needed by the soil to recover, may be due to prolonged microbial activities, as well as to the presence of e. g. ethylene.The present experiments suggest that especially methane-oxidizing bacteria of the Methylosinus trichosporium type were present in predominating numbers and consequently have mainly been responsible for the increased oxygen consumption. However, some fungi oxidizing components of natural gas, including methane and ethane may also have contributed to the increased microbial activities in the soil. The same will be true of a possible secondary microflora on products derived from microorganisms oxidizing natural gas components.  相似文献

为了明确与假眼小绿叶蝉空间关系密切的天敌种类,为合理利用和保护天敌提供科学依据。运用地学统计学分析方法计算白毫早茶园、黄山大叶种茶园、农抗早茶园、平阳特早茶园和乌牛早茶园秋冬季假眼小绿叶蝉和其主要6种天敌地统计学半变异函数的变程。使用灰色系统分析方法对计算结果进行灰色关联度分析,并对分析结果进行标准化。以标准化后的密切指数大小评判天敌与假眼小绿叶蝉空间关系的密切程度。结果是:1)、黄山大叶种茶园和农抗早茶园与假眼小绿叶蝉空间关系密切的前3位天敌是粽管巢蛛、鳞纹肖蛸和斜纹猫蛛,但位次不同。2)、白毫早茶园前3位天敌是鳞纹肖蛸、斜纹猫蛛和锥腹肖蛸,前2种与黄山大叶种和农抗早茶园相同。3)、平阳特早茶园前3位天敌是鳞纹肖蛸、粽管巢蛛和草间小黑蛛,前2种与黄山大叶种和农抗早茶园相同。4)、乌牛早茶园前3位天敌是粽管巢蛛、草间小黑蛛和三突花蟹蛛,只有粽管巢蛛与黄山大叶种和农抗早茶园相同。根据5种茶园同种天敌密切指数之和以及同种天敌位次之和评判,与假眼小绿叶蝉空间关系密切的天敌均是鳞纹肖蛸、粽管巢蛛和斜纹猫蛛。天敌位次的变化主要是害虫和天敌数量之比的比值变化。害虫个体数与某种天敌个体数之比的比值越小,天敌与害虫的跟随关系则越密切。密切原因与食饵资源短缺有关。  相似文献

Based on the characteristics of natural vegetation distribution in northeast China, using multivariate analysis and geographical information system technology, we established a regional ‘vegetation–environment’ model to simulate geographical distribution of 16 natural vegetation types under present environmental conditions, representing the potential natural vegetation (PNV) of northeast China, on the basis of digital maps of seven environmental variables including climate and topography. Comparison of simulated PNVs distributions with the actual natural vegetation distribution indicated a good agreement, with overall predictive accuracy of 66.9% and overall Kappa value of 0.67. The predictions of model, however, were poor, for only 0.62 of AUC value was yielded. The current resolution and accuracy of the model can be applied to simulate and map the natural vegetation pattern at the regional scale and also used to analyze the effect of climatic changes on natural vegetation.  相似文献

Allozyme frequency data from natural populations of Drosophila buzzatii were analyzed for genotype-environment relationships. Allele frequency and heterozygosity at six loci polymorphic throughout eastern Australia and a number of environmental factors (both means and variabilities) were examined by a variety of multivariate techniques. Significant genotype-environment associations were found for five of the six loci, and after correcting for geographic location significant associations remained for Est-2 and Adh-1 gene frequencies and heterozygosities and for Pgm gene frequencies. The results are discussed in relation to selection and gene flow and provide the basis for laboratory studies to disentangle confounded effects of (1) environmental means and environmental variabilities and (2) allele frequency and heterozygosity, and thus to further test for and determine the nature of any natural selection at particular allozyme loci.This work was supported by a grant from the Australian Research Grants Committee to J. Taxus mairei (Lemée & Lév.) S.Y. Hu ex T. S. Liu is a vulnerable tree species, and it is also a precious timber species in China. We used 13 microsatellites to assess the genetic diversity and differentiation of 665 T. mairei samples from 18 natural populations. A total of 291 alleles were detected. The average number of alleles (Na?=?22.39), expected heterozygosity (He?=?0.74), polymorphic information content (PIC?=?0.86) and Shannon diversity index (I?=?1.66) of the loci indicated a high level of genetic diversity in natural T. mairei populations. Moreover, gene flow was more active among populations (Nm?=?1.62) than within populations. Among the 18 populations, the Xinfeng population in Jiangxi Province has the highest genetic diversity. Although each of the studied populations should be protected from further deforestation and agricultural expansion, the Xinfeng population deserves the highest conservation priority. The results based on analysis of molecular variance showed that genetic variation occurred mainly within populations (84.90%; P?<?0.001), which indicated that the degree of genetic differentiation of the natural populations of T. mairei was low. Based on UPGMA, the 18 populations were categorized into two groups. A Mantel test showed that there was no significant correlation between standard genetic distance and geographical distance or altitude differences among the populations. The genetic clustering results also indicated that there are varying degrees of gene penetration among natural populations of T. mairei. The information presented here forms the basis for the development of genetic guidelines for appropriate conservation programs.

In this essay, I consider the scales and connections lost and gained as natural history adopts digital data infrastructures. On the basis of ongoing work in the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, I track the relations between insect specimens and their material and digital informational ecologies. Using Latour's notion of the ‘circulating reference’, I follow the insect specimens as they make their way into taxonomies, databases, and digitization apparatuses. In focusing on human-data mediations in museum practices of ordering, describing, and distributing specimens, I show how the datafication of nature makes present conventionally dissociated contexts, including German colonialism. Proposing the concept of a data formation, I suggest that ethnographers have much to contribute in bringing forward the sociocultural and historical specificities and contingencies within data.  相似文献

Five natural and ten created Spartinaalternifloramarshes in the Lower Galveston BaySystem were compared to determine if there weresignificantly different physical characteristicsassociated with each type of marsh. The saltmarsheswere compared on the basis of microhabitats,length-width ratio, area-perimeter ratio, marsh-wateredge ratio, total size of S. alternifloraplantcommunities, fetch distances, angle of exposure,orientation, and elevation. All physicalmeasurements, except for elevation, were obtained fromphotography analyzed with the use of a GeographicInformation System with digital image processingcapabilities. Differences existed between natural andcreated marshes. The natural marsh sites in this studywere characterized by highly undulant marsh-wateredges, island-like S. alternifloraplant stands,concave shorelines, and low elevations. Createdmarshes were characterized by relatively smoothmarsh-water edges, an unbroken shoreline morphology,convex to straight shoreline configurations, andelevations on the edge and inner portions of the marshhigher than those of natural marshes. The lowelevations of the natural marsh appear to be due tocoastal subsidence in the Galveston Bay area alongwith rising sea level. Reticulated marshes andundulant shorelines appear to be caused by consequentdrowning of the natural marshes. High elevations insome of the created marshes are related to erosion ofthe low elevation marsh or deposition of coarsesediments at the marsh-water edge.  相似文献

A PCR based survey of Festuca ovina plants from populations around the southern part of the Baltic Sea demonstrates both geographic and molecular variation in the enzyme gene PgiC2, horizontally transferred from a Poa-species. Our results show that PgiC2—a natural functional nuclear transgene—is not a local ephemeral phenomenon but is present in a very large number of individuals. We find also that its frequency is geographically variable and that it appears in more than one molecular form. The chloroplast variation in the region does not indicate any distinct subdivision due to different colonization routes after the last glaciation. Our data illustrate the geographic and molecular variation that may occur in natural populations with a polymorphic, unfixed transgene affected by diverse kinds of mutational and evolutionary processes.  相似文献

Since not all rabbits that have receivedb locus-incompatible antigens from the mother respond with natural antiallotype antibody, various factors were studied to determine their role in the expression or nonexpression of antibody production in the individual rabbit. It was found that the mother-offspring allotype relationship is important in determining the probability that a given individual will respond to maternally derived allotype differences, and that the ability to respond is under genetic control. The genetic basis appears to be polygenie with the response status of a given animal determined by a threshold of response-positive genes needed for response.
