Cervical cancer is the second most common cause of cancer-related death among women worldwide, especially in developing countries. Oxidative stress has been associated with cervical cancer. Many studies demonstrated that the low level of antioxidants induces the production of free radicals that cause lipid peroxidation, DNA, and protein damage leading to mutations that favors malignant transformation. This is a case-control institutional study conducted to evaluate the level of oxidative stress in cervical cancer patients and the age-matched healthy controls. We measured level of TBARS expressed as MDA, activity of SOD and GSH level by the spectrophotometric method, and level of 8-OHdG was estimated using a competitive sandwich ELISA assay. Our results showed a significant increase in the level of lipid peroxidation in group IV when compared to the control, group II and group III (p < 0.001). The activity of SOD was also significantly higher in group IV when compared to the control group (p < 0.001), group II (p < 0.001), and group III (p < 0.001). The level of GSH was also significantly lower in group IV when compared to the control group (p < 0.01), group II (p < 0.01), and group III (p < 0.01). The level of 8-OHdG was significantly higher in group IV than in the other groups (p < 0.01). The results suggest that oxidative stress is involved in the pathogenesis of cervical cancer, which is demonstrated by an increased level of lipid peroxidation and higher levels of 8-OHdG and an altered antioxidant defense system.  相似文献

ObjectiveInflammation has been considered as an important factor in cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Curcumin has been well known for its anti-inflammatory effects. In current research, protective effect of curcumin on cardiovascular oxidative stress indicators in systemic inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was investigated in rats.Material and methodsThe animals were divided into five groups and received the treatments during two weeks [1]: Control in which vehicle was administered instead of curcumin and saline was injected instead of LPS [2], LPS group in which vehicle of curcumin plus LPS (1 mg/kg) was administered [3-5], curcumin groups in them three doses of curcumin (5, 10 and 15 mg/kg) before LPS were administered.ResultsAdministration of LPS was followed by an inflammation status presented by an increased level of white blood cells (WBC) (p < 0.001). An oxidative stress status was also occurred after LPS injection which was presented by an increased level of malondialdehyde (MDA) while, a decrease in thiols, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase(CAT) in all heart, aorta and serum (p < 0.001). The results also showed that curcumin decreased WBC (doses: 10 and 15 mg/kg) (p < 0.001) accompanying with a decrease in MDA (P < 0.01 and P < 0.001). Curcumin also improved the thiols and the activities of SOD and catalase (P < 0.05, P < 0.01 and P < 0.001).ConclusionBased on our findings, curcumin can ameliorates oxidative stress and inflammation induced by LPS in rats to protect the cardiovascular system.  相似文献

Trans-anethole (ANE) is a monoterpene present in many aromatic plants, especially Pimpinella anisum (PA). In this regard, we previously reported the anti-depressant potential of PA. Here, we examined the anti-depressant activity of ANE and its possible mechanism in mice. In experiment 1, the animals received ANE (12.5–50 mg.kg -1) 60 min prior to forced swimming and open-field tests. In experiment 2, the animals received several receptor antagonists to assess the possible mechanism of ANE. The administration of ANE (25 and 50 mg.kg -1; p < 0.01 and p < 0.001, respectively) exhibited an anti-depressive-like effect in FST without any significant effect on animal locomotion(p > 0.05). Moreover, haloperidol(p < 0.001), SCH23390(p < 0.001), sulpiride(p < 0.001), ketanserin(p < 0.001), p-chlorophenylalanine(p < 0.001), WAY100135(p < 0.001), reserpine, (p < 0.001) prazosin(p < 0.001), and yohimbine(p < 0.001) inhibited the anti-depressive-like effect of ANE. Furthermore, co-treatment of a subeffective dose of ANE with imipramine or fluoxetine induced synergistic anti-depressant-like effects(p < 0.001). Our data mainly showed that the anti-depressive-like effect of ANE, which can be attributed to the contribution of the monoaminergic system.  相似文献

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the result of dopaminergic (DA) neuronal death in the substantianigra pars compacta (SNc). Current treatments for PD such as L-dopa are limited in effectiveness and fail to address the cause. Targeted anti-inflammatory therapies, particularly directed at nuclear factor kappa B (NF‐κB) activity in alleviating degeneration of DA-neurons is of evolving interest. In the present study, we hypothesised that dexmedetomidine (DEX), an alpha-2 receptor adrenergic agonist, suppress the inflammatory responses associated with PD and restores dopaminergic levels by alleviating substantia nigral degeneration. Male mice (C57Bl/10, 8–11 months old and of 34–40 g of weight) were divided into: the control, 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP), and MPTP + dexmedetomidine (MPTP + DEX) (n = 26 each group). Dex restored dopamine levels in SNpc of MPTP-induced PD mice model. Results of immunohisto staining revealed that Dex treatment post-MPTP induction restored TH-positive cells, with only 12.37% increase (##p < 0.01 vs MPTP) on the third day and a steep 55% increase (###p < 0.001 vs MPTP) following the seventh day of Dex treatment. Moreover, the expressions of proinflammatory markers regulated by NF-κB were diminished in Dex + MPTP group. In addition, cylinder test revealed that Dex treatment improved asymmetric limb usage pattern in MPTP induced mice over the course of 7 days. Hence, in this study, we provided insight on the effect of Dex in the inhibition of NF-κB1 regulated proinflammatory mediators to improve dopamine levels and reduce SNpc dopaminergic neuronal degeneration.  相似文献

Ram sperm are subjected to extreme oxidative stress during their preservation at −196 °C resulting in reduced quality at post thaw. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of antioxidants taurine, quercetin and reduced glutathione on the post thaw quality of crossbred ram sperm. A total of twenty four ejaculates from six crossbred rams were collected and extended with tris-based extender with no antioxidant (Control), with taurine (40 mM), quercetin (5 μg/ml) and reduced glutathione (5 mM). The post thaw sperm quality was determined by percent sperm motility, live sperm count, intact acrosome and hypo-osmotic swelling test (HOST) reacted spermatozoa and lipid peroxidation was measured in terms of malondialdehyde (MDA) level both in seminal plasma and sperm cell. At post thaw, percent sperm motility and live sperm count were significantly (p < 0.05) higher for taurine than control and reduced glutathione but did not differ significantly (p > 0.05) from quercetin. The percent HOST reacted spermatozoa were significantly higher for taurine than control, quercetin and reduced glutathione. Seminal plasma MDA level was significantly (p < 0.05) lower for taurine than control and non-significantly lower than quercetin and reduced glutathione. However, spermatic MDA level did not differ significantly (p > 0.05) among the control and antioxidants. In conclusion, taurine at 40 mM reduced lipid peroxidation and improved post thaw sperm quality of cryopreserved crossbred ram semen. Further, transportation time of semen samples in an ice chest at 4–5 °C may be included as a part of equilibration period, when collection shed and frozen semen unit are located at a distance.  相似文献

BackgroundThe reactive oxygen species generated by numerous xenobiotic substances has as consequences the impairment of different organs normal function. Many plants pose antioxidant activity to counteract oxidative stress, among them being the chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa). The purpose of present study was to determine if the use of A. melanocarpa extract can counteract the oxidative stress induced by cisplatin administration in rats.Material and methodsThe study was made on forty Wistar rats divided in four groups as follows: C (control): receiving i.p. 1 mL of saline solution; E1: receiving cisplatin 20 mg/kg bw, i.p.; E2: receiving cisplatin 20 mg/kg bw, i.p and A. melanocarpa berry 6 % aqueous extract as drinking water, and CB (control blank): i.p 1 mL saline solution and A. melanocarpa 6 % aqueous extract for four weeks. Results. Administration of Cisplatin was followed by the increase of serum superoxide dismutase (+21.18 %, P < 0.05), catalase (+25.44 %, P < 0.001), glutathione peroxidase (+17.88 %, P < 0.05) and thiobarbituric reactive substances (+28.17 %, P < 0.01) but significantly decreased glutathione reductase (−22.35 %, P < 0.001) level comparative to control, pointing out that administration of cisplatin induced oxidative stress in rats. In groups that received A. melanocarpa extract as drinking water, we noted that the levels of the oxidative stress biomarkers tended to be restored almost to normal levels, which could be a possible good antioxidant used in condition to cisplatin use. Also, we noted a significant (P < 0.001) decrease of total antioxidant capacity in liver and kidney of rats exposed to cisplatin, recovered in those that received chokeberry. Studied trace elements important for the stress oxidative enzymes (Cu, Zn, Fe and Mn) were decreased in cisplatin exposed groups compared to control and mainly all were almost to normal level in groups receiving A. melanocarpa. Conclusion. A. melanocarpa extract due to its antioxidants content could offer protection against free radicals produced as a consequence of cisplatin use.  相似文献

Climate changes, particularly the increase of temperature are among the main causes behind the decline of fertility in humans as well as animals. In this study, the effects of heat stress on some reproductive parameters of male cavies and mitigation strategies using guava leaves essential oil (GLEO) were studied. For this purpose, 40 male cavies aged 2.5–3 months and weighing between 348 and 446 g were divided into 4 groups of 10 animals each and subjected to the following temperatures: Ambient temperature (20–25 °C) for the control group, 35 °C for group 1, 45 °C for group 2 and 45 °C+100 µl GLEO/kg body weight, administered by gavage to animals for group 3. Exposure time of heat was 7 h per day for 60 days. Results reveal that the relative weights of testes, epididymis, vas deferens and seminal vesicles were hardly affected by the temperature levels considered (P>0.05). The mass and individual sperm motility was significantly lower (P<0.05) in cavies exposed to the temperature of 35 and 45 °C as compared with those which received GLEO and controls. The percentages of abnormal sperm and altered sperm DNA were higher in animals exposed to temperature of 35 and 45 °C as compared with the controls. The activity of superoxide dismutase significantly increased (P<0.05) in animals exposed to temperature of 45 °C and in those of 45 °C and orally treated with GLEO, compared with cavies exposed to temperature of 45 °C without receiving GLEO. The level of malondialdehyde was significantly increased (P<0.05) in animals exposed to temperature of 35 and 45 °C, whereas the level of nitric oxide was significantly lower (P<0.05) in exposed animals as compared with controls. It was concluded that the exposure of male cavies at 35 and 45 °C for 60 days induce heat stress that causes deterioration of sperm characteristics. These effects that can be mitigated by the administration of guava leaves essential oil.  相似文献

PurposeTo assess modulation of neutralizing antibody titers in COVID-19 patients and understand association of variables such as age, presence of comorbidity, BMI and gender with antibody titers.MethodsPatients (n = 100) diagnosed from 20th March 2020 to 17th August 2020 and treated at two large hospitals from Pune, India were included and followed up (clinical and serologic) for varied periods. IgG-anti-SARS-CoV-2 (Spike protein-based ELISA) and neutralizing antibody titers (NAb, PRNT) were determined in all the samples.ResultsOf the 100 patients enrolled initially (median 60 days of diagnosis), follow up samples were collected from 70 patients (median 106 days of diagnosis). Overall, NAb titers reduced significantly (p < 0.001) and as early as 3–4 months. During two visits, 20% and 7.1% patients reported some symptoms. At the first visit, NAb titers were higher in patients with severe disease (p < 0.001), comorbidities (p < 0.005), age <50 years (p < 0.05) and male gender (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis identified older age (p < 0.001), duration post-diagnosis and female gender as independent variables influencing NAb titers (negative correlation, p < 0.05). During the follow-up, reduction in NAb titers was recorded in patients with comorbidity (p < 0.05), mild disease (p < 0.05), age <50 years (p < 0.05), higher BMI (p < 0.05) and male gender (p < 0.001). Serology identified six cases of asymptomatic reinfections.ConclusionsDecline of NAb titers was associated with age <50 years, mild disease, comorbidities, higher BMI and male gender. At the time of follow up, 8/70 (11.4%) patients lacked neutralizing antibodies. Evidence of 6 probable asymptomatic reinfections suggests waning of immunity, but, probable protection from clinical disease needing hospitalization.  相似文献

ObjectivesComparison of outcomes, device deployment time (DT), and total time (TT) using a single tapered Coons dilator versus sequential serial dilation for implantation of the Micra leadless pacemaker.BackgroundMicra leadless pacemaker placement requires a 23 French Micra introducer sheath (MIS) for percutaneous delivery. We sought to evaluate outcomes with use of a single tapered Coons dilator (CD) versus sequential serial dilatation (SD) method to facilitate insertion of the Micra introducer sheath.Methods35 patients were included in the SD arm and 49 in the CD arm. DT and TT were recorded in minutes and cost in dollars. Analysis was performed using independent t-test between two groups and one-way ANOVA to evaluate inter-operator variability in the CD arm.ResultsBoth DT and TT were significantly lower for the CD arm (15.1 ± 5.1 vs 23.5 ± 9.3, p < 0.0005 and 29.9 ± 14 vs 39.3 ± 13.5 min, p = 0.000374; respectively). The cost was also significantly lower using a CD versus SD. There was no inter-operator variability in the CD arm between 6 operators (p = 0.177 for DT and p = 0.304 for TT). No complications occurred in the SD arm. There were 3 vascular access site complications in the CD arm, all of which occurred early in the operator’s experience.ConclusionCoons dilator is an efficient and cost-effective method for vascular dilatation to facilitate Micra leadless pacemaker insertion. Rate of complications is low and expected to improve with greater experience.  相似文献

The 6-shogaol, is a flavanone type flavonoid that is abundant in citrus fruit and has a wide range of pharmacological effects. The present study attempted to evaluate the antiurolithic effect of 6-shogaol on ethylene glycol (EG) and ammonium chloride (AC)-induced experimental urolithiasis in rats. The efficacy of 6-shogaol 50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg was studied in EG 0.75% (V/V) and AC 1% (W/V) experimentally induced urolithiasis in rats for 21 days. The weight difference, urine volume, the levels of calcium, phosphate, magnesium, oxalate and uric acid in urine was observed. The blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, uric acid in serum and levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) were also measured. Histopathological analyses in kidneys were also performed. The rats weights were higher in the 6-shogaol groups than the urolithiasis group. EG caused a significant increase in serum creatinine (p < 0.05), BUN (P < 0.001), and uric acid (p < 0.01) while treatment with Cystone (750 mg/kg), and 6-shogaol (50 and 100 mg/kg) showed the significant reduction in increased serum levels of creatinine (p < 0.001), uric acid (p < 0.01) and BUN (p < 0.001). Administration of EG and AC showed statistically significant (p < 0.001) elevated levels of MDA and reduction in GSH levels. Treatment of Cystone (750 mg/kg), and 6-shogaol (50 and 100 mg/kg) significantly (p < 0.001) reduced MDA levels and an increase GSH levels as compared to EG and AC-treated group. The histological findings further attested antiurolithiatic properties of 6-shogaol. The present study attributed clinical shreds of evidence first time that claiming the significant antiurolithic effect of 6-shogaol and could be a cost-effective candidate for the prevention and treatment of urolithiasis.  相似文献

High concentrations of cryoprotective agents (CPA) are required during articular cartilage cryopreservation but these CPAs can be toxic to chondrocytes. Reactive oxygen species have been linked to cell death due to oxidative stress. Addition of antioxidants has shown beneficial effects on chondrocyte survival and functions after cryopreservation. The objectives of this study were to investigate (1) oxidative stress experienced by chondrocytes and (2) the effect of antioxidants on cellular reactive oxygen species production during articular cartilage exposure to high concentrations of CPAs. Porcine cartilage dowels were exposed to a multi-CPA solution supplemented with either 0.1 mg/mL chondroitin sulfate or 2000 μM ascorbic acid, at 4 °C for 180 min (N = 7). Reactive oxygen species production was measured with 5 μM dihydroethidium, a fluorescent probe that targets reactive oxygen species. The cell viability was quantified with a dual cell membrane integrity stain containing 6.25 μM Syto 13 + 9 μM propidium iodide using confocal microscopy. Supplementation of CPA solutions with chondroitin sulfate or ascorbic acid resulted in significantly lower dihydroethidium counts (p < 0.01), and a lower decrease in the percentage of viable cells (p < 0.01) compared to the CPA-treated group without additives. These results indicated that reactive oxygen species production is induced when articular cartilage is exposed to high CPA concentrations, and correlated with the amount of dead cells. Both chondroitin sulfate and ascorbic acid treatments significantly reduced reactive oxygen species production and improved chondrocyte viability when articular cartilage was exposed to high concentrations of CPAs.  相似文献

A surgical procedure was developed to observe the reproductive tract of free-ranging desert bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis cremnobates) ewes. Ventral laparotomies were performed on 37 bighorn ewes (ages: lamb — 9 years of age), 24 of which were unilaterally ovariectomized. A second laparotomy was done on 31 ewes. Diazepam (1.5 mg/kg) was injected intramuscularly as a preanesthetic followed by 5 mg etorphine hydrochloride (M99) for restraint and anesthesia. Atropine sulfate (0.03 mg/kg) was used to control hypersalivation and bronchial mucus secretion. Diazepam was evaluated as a preanesthetic on a control group of 42 ewes not submitted to surgery. Pretreatment with diazepam significantly (P < 0.001) reduced the induction time of the anesthetic. All bighorn sheep subjected to surgery recovered without postoperative complications. Ambulation time was similar whether or not diazepam was used as a preanesthetic. Subsequent reproductive performance and mortality rates were similar to those bighorn sheep in the remaining population.  相似文献

AimTo evaluate whether left bundle branch block with residual conduction (rLBBB) is associated with worse outcomes after cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT).MethodsAll consecutive CRT implants at our institution between 2006 and 2013 were identified from our local device registry. Pre- and post-implant patient specific data were extracted from clinical records.ResultsA total of 690 CRT implants were identified during the study period. Prior to CRT, 52.2% of patients had true left bundle branch block (LBBB), 19.1% a pacing-induced LBBB (pLBBB), 11.2% a rLBBB, 0.8% a right bundle branch block (RBBB), and 16.5% had a nonspecific intraventricular conduction delay (IVCD) electrocardiogram pattern. Mean age at implant was 67.5 years (standard deviation [SD] = 10.6), mean left ventricular ejection fraction (LV EF) was 25.7% (SD = 7.9%), and mean QRS duration was 158.4 ms (SD = 32 ms). After CRT, QRS duration was significantly reduced in the LBBB (p < 0.001), pLBBB (p < 0.001), rLBBB (p < 0.001), RBBB (p = 0.04), and IVCD groups (p = 0.03). LV EF significantly improved in the LBBB (p < 0.001), rLBBB (p = 0.002), and pLBBB (p < 0.001) groups, but the RBBB and IVCD groups showed no improvement. There was no significant difference in mortality between the LBBB and rLBBB groups. LV EF post-CRT, chronic kidney disease, hyperkalaemia, hypernatremia, and age at implant were significant predictors of mortality.ConclusionCRT in patients with rLBBB results in improved LV EF and similar mortality rates to CRT patients with complete LBBB. Predictors of mortality post-CRT include post-CRT LV EF, presence of CKD, hyperkalaemia, hypernatremia, and older age at implant.  相似文献

PurposeTo perform a comprehensive dosimetric and clinical evaluation of the new Pinnacle Personalized automated planning system for complex head-and-neck treatments.MethodsFifteen consecutive head-neck patients were enrolled. Radiotherapy was prescribed using VMAT with simultaneous integrated boost strategy. Personalized planning integrates the Feasibility engine able to supply an “a priori” DVH prediction of the achievability of planning goals. Comparison between clinically accepted manually-generated (MP) and automated (AP) plans was performed using dose-volume histograms and a blinded clinical evaluation by two radiation oncologists. Planning time between MP and AP was compared. Dose accuracy was validated using the PTW Octavius-4D phantom together with the 1500 2D-array.ResultsFor similar targets coverage, AP plans reported less irradiation of healthy tissue, with significant dose reduction for spinal cord, brainstem and parotids. On average, the mean dose to parotids and maximal doses to spinal cord and brainstem were reduced by 13–15% (p < 0.001), 9% (p < 0.001) and 16% (p < 0.001), respectively. The integral dose was reduced by 16% (p < 0.001). The dose conformity for the three PTVs was significantly higher with AP plans (p < 0.001). The two oncologists chose AP plans in more than 80% of cases. Overall planning times were reduced to <30 min for automated optimization. All AP plans passed the 3%/2 mm γ-analysis by more than 95%.ConclusionComplex head-neck plans created using Personalized automated engine provided an overall increase of plan quality, in terms of dose conformity and sparing of normal tissues. The Feasibility module allowed OARs dose sparing well beyond the clinical objectives.  相似文献

The main aim of the study was to compare the peak surface electromyography (sEMG) amplitude of muscles during low and high loaded bench press exercises performed to muscular failure on the dominant and non-dominant body side. Ten resistance-trained healthy males with at least six-year experience in resistance training (27.7 ± 5.6 years, 81.1 ± 5.8 kg and 175.3 ± 5.2 cm, bench press one-repetition maximum [1RM] = 98.9 ± 7.1 kg) performed the bench press at 50% and at 90%1RM. The differences in peak sEMG amplitude between body-sides and the external loads were recorded for the pectoralis major (PM), anterior deltoid (AD), and the long head of the triceps brachii (TB) during each attempt. A two-way repeated-measures ANOVAs revealed statistically significant main effect of side for AD (p < 0.001) and TB (p < 0.001) but not for PM (p = 0.168) and a significant main effect of load for TB (p < 0.001) but not for AD and PM (p = 0.229; p = 0.072; respectively). The post-hoc analysis for the main effect of side showed significantly higher peak sEMG amplitude for the dominant side compared to the non-dominant side for AD and TB at 50%1RM and 90%1RM (p < 0.001; all) with no statistically significant differences for PM (p = 0.187; p = 0.155; both loads). The post-hoc analysis for the main effect of load for TB revealed a significantly higher peak sEMG amplitude at 90%1RM compared to the 50%1RM (p = 0.009). The obtained results indicate that regardless of the external load, the peak sEMG activity of the AD, PM, and TB during the bench press exercise performed to muscular failure was higher on the dominant body-side.  相似文献

BackgroundIn several countries, such as Brazil, the oncological diagnosis usually occurs at an advanced stage of the disease. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate temporal trends and factors associated with the cancer diagnosed at stage IV in Brazil in two decades.MethodsSecondary-based study, with time series analysis for trend assessment and cross-sectional of factors associated with diagnosis of female breast, prostate, cervix uteri, colorectal, lung, stomach, lip and oral cavity, thyroid, esophagus or corpus uteri at stage IV.Results1,218,322 cases were evaluated. The types of cancer with the highest proportion of stage IV at diagnosis in men and women, respectively, were: lung (53.7% and 57.4%), stomach (48.4% and 45.0%) and lip/oral cavity (53.5% and 43.4%). Most showed an increasing trend of annual percent change of cancer diagnosed at stage IV, being more pronounced in corpus uteri cancer (2013–2019: +7.4%, p < 0.001). The odds of cancer diagnosed at stage IV were associated with different factors, according to primary tumor site, but marked by the inverse association with female sex [odds ratio (OR) ranging from 0.42 to 0.91, p < 0.001] and direct association in cases with < 7 years of study (OR ranging from 1.08 to 1.81, p < 0.001), living without a partner (OR ranging from 1.06, p < 0.050 to1.27, p < 0.001), living in the South and Southeast regions (OR ranging from 1.04 to 1.13, p < 0.001), with more than one tumor (OR ranging from 1.19, p < 0.050 to 1.54, p < 0.001) and treated in Centers of High Complexity in Oncology (OR ranging from 1.03, p < 0.050 to1.24, p < 0.001).ConclusionThere was a high frequency of cancer diagnosed at stage IV and an increasing trend in different cancer types, which were associated with distinct sociodemographic, lifestyle, and clinical factors.  相似文献

Emerging antibiotic resistance has become a cosmopolitan problem and evoking researchers to search for new antimicrobials from natural constituents. The present study was intended to test the antimicrobial potential of traditionally used unexplored polyherbal recipes for curing digestive ailments. A total of 25 plants species were combined in different ratios to form 14 polyherbal recipes. After collecting and grinding plant parts, methanolic extracts of 14 polyherbal recipes were prepared by the cold maceration process. Antibacterial and antifungal activity of the polyherbal extracts was checked by agar well diffusion method at a concentration of 50 mg/ ml while minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined by serial dilution method. Polyherbal recipes B and D showed significant inhibition zone each against Vibrio cholerae (25.63; p < 0.001). Recipe G (23.33; p < 0.001) showed better efficacy against Escherichia coli. Recipe E and G significantly inhibited Proteus species (28.33; 24.33; p < 0.001). Recipe B was highly effective against Salmonella typhi. Recipe C, A and F had significant antifungal affect and inhibited Aspergillus nigar (28.67; p < 0.05), Aspergillus fumigatus (27; p < 0.01) Trichoderma (30; p < 0.001), Rhizopus (19.67; p < 0.01), and Fusarium graminearum (28.67;p < 0.001). Polyherbal formulations A, B, D, K, and N were active with the lowest concentration. MIC ranges within 3.12–25 mg/ml while minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) between 12.5 and 50 mg/ml. Polyherbal recipes’ A, B, D, G, K and N have enhanced antimicrobial potential with better efficacy than tested antibiotics and should be evaluated for further scientific validation.  相似文献

Fungicides are a pesticide that particularly kills or destroy fungi responsible for several diseases associated to humans and other living organisms. Assessment of toxic effects and mechanisms of fungicide action is important because humans and domesticated animals get exposed to these pesticides through a wide variety of applications. Several fungicides are being used at the large scale for the crop protection from the fungal invasion. Propiconazole (PCZ), a trazole-containing fungicide, is widely used in China and various Asian countries for food crop protection which made it easily to exposed to the aquatic system. Long term usage of PCZ may contaminate the water bodies, but its toxicity to aquatic organisms is not well studied. In this study, freshwater fish, Channa punctata Bloch was exposed to different sub-lethal concentrations of the fungicide, PCZ (0.5 and 5 ppm) for a period of 96 h. Various biochemical assays and histological alterations were measured to determine the organ toxicity caused by PCZ exposure particularly in liver, kidney and gills of the fishes. Compared to the control group, fish exposed to PCZ (96 h) showed marked dose dependent toxicity. The levels of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and protein carbonyls (PC), oxidative stress biomarker of liver, kidney and gills in the experimental group were significantly higher (P < 0.05 and P < 0.001) compared to the control group. Levels of reduced glutathione (GSH) and non-protein thiols (NP-SH) decreased significantly (P <0.05–0.001) in all analyzed intoxicated organs of the PCZ exposed fishes. Activity of glutathione-S-transferase (GST), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT) in fungicide treated groups was significantly lowered (P < 0.05–0.001). In addition, histopathological examination in the organs showed significant changes like atrophy of primary and secondary gill lamellae, infiltrations, inflammation, hepatocyte degeneration, vacuolization and necrotic kidney. Thus, PCZ exposure altered the oxidative stress homeostasis and brought about histopathological changes which may serve as potential biomarkers of the PCZ toxicity in the laboratory set-up for potential risk assessment.  相似文献

Impact of global warming on the dairy industry has gained attention due to huge economic losses through low production and fertility caused by heat stress. Exposure to hyperthermia provokes a series of complex responses in mammals which are been related to morphological and physiological alterations including the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). A quantitative spectrophotometric based nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction assay was used to estimate the superoxide anion (•O2) level in heat stressed (at 42 °C) whole blood cultures of native and crossbred bulls (Sahiwal and Frieswal), in vitro. The breed effect in the kinetics of •O2 production at different time periods of continual heat stress was analyzed by repeated measures ANOVA. Comparison between different time periods in reference to 37 °C was analyzed by paired t-test. The •O2 level was significantly different (p < 0.05) between cells at 37 °C and 42 °C at different periods of incubation. Kinetics study showed increment of •O2 production on the acute phase of stress followed by a reduction in both Sahiwal and Frieswal breeds. In Sahiwal breed, the inflated superoxide level continued abated till 4 h and raised again at 6 h, while in Frieswal •O2 level reverted to raise sooner with in 2 h of incubation itself. Contrarily, kinetic of •O2 level in plasma showed a significant reduction (p < 0.001) at 30 min of 42 °C incubation followed by increment of •O2 level. Further, the breed variation was significant (p < 0.05) and a significant high reduction of •O2 level was observed in Sahiwal breed. Our finding indicates that, a better and longer •O2 production homeostasis and higher plasma scavenging ability of native breed may be one of the reasons for the higher thermal tolerance of these breeds in tropical climate.  相似文献

PurposeThe aim of this study was to assess patient exposure data and operator dose in coronary interventional procedures, when considering patient body-mass index and procedure complexity.MethodsTotal air kerma area product (PKA), Air-Kerma (AK), Fluoroscopy time (FT), operator dose and patient body-mass index (BMI) from 97 patients’ procedures (62 coronary angiography (CA) and 35 Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) were collected for one year. For PCI procedures, also the complexity index-CI was collected. Continuous variables for each of the 2 groups procedures (CA and PCI) were compared as medians with interquartile range and using Mann-Whitney U test. Multiple group data were compared using Kruskal-Wallis test (significance: p < 0.05).ResultsMedian PKA was 63 and 125 Gy cm2 for CA and PCI respectively (p < 0.001); FT was 3 and 14 min, respectively (p < 0.001). PKA and FT significantly increased (p < 0.05) with BMI class for CA procedures. PKA and FT also increased in function of CI class for PCI, thought significantly only for FT (p < 0.001), possibly because of the low number of PCI procedures included; cine mode contributed most to PKA. Significant dose variability was observed among cardiologists for CA procedures (p < 0.001).ConclusionsDose references levels for PKA and FT in interventional cardiology should be defined - on a sufficient number of procedures- in function of CI and BMI classes. These could provide an additional tool for refining a facility’s quality assurance and optimization processes. Dose variability associated with cardiologists underlines the importance of continuous training.  相似文献
