Two new species of Vernonia (Asteraceae: Vernonieae) from Peru

Two new species,Vernonia sagasteguii andV. paucartambensis, from Peru are described, illustrated, and their relationships discussed.     

A new species of Chiliotrichiopsis (Asteraceae: Astereae) from Peru

Chiliotrichiopsis peruviana Nesom, H. Rob. & Granda, a new species from Dept. Ayacucho in southwestern Peru, is described and illustrated. It is the only rayless species of the genus, now expanded to four species, and the only one that occurs outside of Argentina.Chiliotrichiopsis is one of six shrubby South American genera of Astereae (subtribe Hinterhuberinae) with paleate receptacles. Observations on morphology and a key to these genera provide perspective for the generic placement of the new species.     

A new species of Gynoxys (Asteraceae: Senecioneae) from northern Peru

A new species of flourensia (Asteraceae: Heliantheae) from northern Peru

Flourensia cajabambensis, a new species from northern Peru, is described and illustrated, and its relationships are discussed. A key to the Peruvian species ofFlourensia is presented.     

New species of llerasia (Asteraceae: Astereae) from Peru

Two new species from Peru,Llerasia pascoensis Sagást. & Dillon andLl. sanmartinensis Sagást. & Dillon are described and illustrated, and their relationships discussed. A key to the Peruvian species ofLlerasia is presented. Also, a notable range extension into northern Peru is reported forLl. lindenii Triana, a species previously known only from Colombia and Ecuador.     

Studies in neotropical Piperaceae. II. Four new species and a new combination from Colombia and Peru

Peperomia boekei, an endemic from Peru, andPeperomia antioquiensis, Piper perpusillum, andPiper valdivianum, all known only from the Department of Antioquia (Colombia), are described and illustrated, and their relationships are discussed. A new combination,Piper enckeaespicum (Trel. & Yuncker) Callejas, is proposed.     

A new species of Centaurea (Asteraceae) from Sicily

A new species of Centaurea, Centaurea sicana , endemic to Sicily, is described. This new taxon is close to Centaurea parlatoris and Centaurea giardinae (Sect. Dissectae), the former occurring at Palermo and in the Madonie Mountains, while the latter occurs on the Etna volcano. The new species has so far been found only on the Sicani Mountains, a limestone mountain range in western Sicily, while the related species occur in the surrounding mountains. © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 2008, 157 , 785–788.     

A new species of Pleiotaxis (Asteraceae) from Angola

A new species from Angola, Pleiotaxis angolensis (tribe Mutisieae, Asteraceae), is described. We detail the principal differences from the most similar taxon, Pleiotaxis subscaposa .     

A new species of Kleinia (Asteraceae) from Somalia

The new species Kleinia caespitosa, from crevices in limestone rocks at 1850–1900 m in northern Somalia, is described and illustrated. It is compared to the widespread and sympatric K. grantii, as well as to K. saginata in Oman.     

Three new species of Senecio (Asteraceae) from Mexico

Senecio moranii, Senecio martirensis, andSenecio semperamatae, all from Mexico, are described as new.     

Four new species of Caloplaca from Antarctica

Abstract: Four new species of Caloplaca are described from Antarctica: C. buelliae is parasitic on Buellia, C. iomma has a characteristic deep reddish orange colour on the apothecia, C. psoromatis is parasitic on Psoroma and Pannaria, and C. siphonospora is a parasitic species of mosses, very similar to C. nivalis, but with much shorter spores.     

Two new species of Dioscorea (Dioscoreaceae) from Peru

Two new species ofDioscorea,D. gentryi (subgen.Helmia sect.Monadelpha) andD. andromedusae (subgen.Helmia sect.Centrostemon) from Peru, are described and illustrated.     

Two new species of pancratioid Amaryllidaceae from Peru and Ecuador

Eucharis plicata andPamianthe parviflora are described from Peru and Ecuador respectively. Additionally, questions are raised concerning the separation of the generaPamianthe Stapf andParamongaia Velarde.     

A new species of Solorinella (Asterothyriaceae) from Peru

Solorinella nigrescens Thor sp. nov., is described from Peru. Only one species of Solorinella, S. asteriscus Anzi from Europe and Pakistan, has been known previously. The morphology of the two populations of 5. asteriscus in central Europe and southern Norway is discussed. They differ chiefly in spore width. Toninia tristis is reported for the first time from Peru and South America.     

Hymenocallis incaica, a new species of Amaryllidaceae from Peru

An new species of Amaryllidaceae, namely Hymenocallis incaica sp. nov., is described from the department of Huancavelica, Peru. The species belongs in subgenus hmene (Salisb.) Bak., being mainly related to H. hawkesii Varg., H. narcissiflora (Jacq.) Macbr., and H. pedunculata (Herb.) Macbr. A key to the species of the subgenus is provided.     

A new species of Euterpe (Palmae) from Peru

Euterpe luminosa, a new species from Peru, is described and illustrated. The differences between it and its congeners are discussed.     

A new species of Ranunculus (Ranunculaceae) from Peru

A new species,Ranunculus lambayequensis, from the department of Lambayeque in Peru with pocket-like nectary scales and smooth and turgid achenes appears to be related toR. donianus andR. bangii of sectionEpirotes.     

Two new species of Acalypha (Euphorbiaceae) from Peru

Two new species of the genus Acalypha are described and illustrated., A. salicina and A. simplicistyla , based on Peruvian material. Comments on the systematics of related species are included.     

Dicoma hindana (Asteraceae), a new species from Somalia

A new species of the genus Dicoma (sect. Psilocoma ), from Somalia, is described. The characteristics by which it can be distinguished from related species are listed.     

Centaurea amanosensis (Asteraceae), a new species from Turkey

Centaurea amanosensis M. Bona, a new species of Asteraceae from Hatay province of Turkey is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to C. cheirolopha (Fenzl) Wagenitz, C. lycopifolia Boiss. & Kotschy ex Boiss. & Kotschy, and C. stevenii Bieb. (Section Pseudoseridia), but it differs mainly in life form, general habit, leaves and achene characters. The IUCN conservation status of Critically Endangered (CR) should be applied to C. amanosensis.
