Gnaphosa kailana Tikader andScotophaeus blackwallii (Thorell) are characterized by twenty-two (20+X1X2) and twenty-four (22+X1X2) acrocentric chromosomes in their diploid set respectively. In case ofG. kailana the sex-chromosomes are slightly unequal while inS. blackwallii the size difference is well marked between the two. The sex-chromosomes in both species form an accessory plate at the equator of the spindle during metaphase-I and show a precocious anaphase-I movement.  相似文献

Sensitivity of 241 Shigella strains isolated from patients at various regions of the USSR in 1975--1978 was tested with respect to 14 antibiotics by the method of serial dilutions. 90.5 per cent of the isolates proved to be resistant to the antibacterial drugs and the greater part of 75.9 per cent of them had multiple resistance. The resistance of the Shigella was most pronounced and frequent with respect to tetracycline, streptomycin, levomycetin, as well as ampicillin and carbenicillin. Gentamicin, cephaloridin, polymyxin M, kanamycin, monomycin, neomycin and rifampicin were highly active against the Shigella. More than 50 per cent of the isolates were sensitive to levomycetin, ampicillin and carbenicillin. Differences in the frequency of the resistant strains and the spectrum of the antibiotic resistance of different Shigella subgroups (species) were observed. The study of 173 multiple resistant Shigella strains showed that about 67 per cent of the strains had a capacity for transduction of the resistance markers into the recipient cells of E. coli. The conjugative R-plasmids were most frequent in Sh. boydii and Sh. sonnei (95 and 95 per cent respectively), less frequent in Sh. flexneri and Sh. newcastle (68 and 53 per cent respectively) and least frequent in the mannitol negative Shigella (25 per cent). The capacity for transduction of R-plasmids in the strains carrying the determinants of resistance to 2 or 3 antibiotics was higher than in the strains carrying the determinant of resistance to one antibiotic. The clinical Shigella strains tested mainly had transmissive R-plasmids of fi--character (79 per cent).  相似文献

Summary We have undertaken a systematic study to test the transformation of various species of gram-negative bacteria using the electroporation method. The data obtained show very clearly that a great variety of gram-negative bacteria — 15 different species belonging to 11 different genera — including freshly isolated wild-type strains can be transformed efficiently by use of the electric-field mediated transformation technique. These include species of the families Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonadaceae, Rhizobiaceae, photosynthetic bacteria and strains for which transformation could not be achieved, up to now, by other methods.  相似文献

Utilizing the whole protein data base as well as parts of it (groups and individual representatives), the universal character of the regularities in protein primary structure — preference in bonding (self-ordering) and periodicity — is shown by means of an improved procedure of checking statistical significance. In the vast majority of the cases there is a preference in bonding with the same or with very similar amino acid. Taken as a whole, both regularities show a universal character. The results obtained provide evidence in favour of the conception about the priority of proteins as information polymers.  相似文献

We have analyzed the secondary structure of spidroin proteins of I and II types, related to spiders of different species. We used standard methods of secondary structure prediction NNPREDICT and JPRED and also analyzed the occurrences of oligopeptides with a preferred secondary structure with the help of the OLIGON program. We have demonstrated that local segments of the polypeptide chain can adopt alpha- and beta-conformations as well as the left-handed helix of polyproline II type. Periodical patterns found in the amino acid distribution indicate that there is a possibility of development of a macroscopic order accompanied by local conformational transitions.  相似文献

The species composition and seasonal periodicity of the phytoplankton in Lake Vechten (The Netherlands) have been studied over a 20 year period. The results show a more or less regular pattern of algal succession during the year. Phytoplankton growth starts early in the year leading to a maximum in early spring, dominated by Bacillariophyceae and some Chlorophyceae. In summer a second maximum develops mainly consisting of a chrysophycean and a dinophycean species, accompanied by several Chlorophyceae. In September the summer species are gradually succeeded by diatoms. By the end of the summer stratification in October algal numbers decrease rapidly. The winter community consists of several species of Cryptophyceae and Chrysophyceae.When the data of 1975–1979 are compared with those from earlier records, distinct changes can be observed. These changes are discussed with reference to the trophic status of the lake. The vertical distribution of some species is described.  相似文献

Unlike man-made fibers, the silks of spiders are spun from aqueous solutions and at atmospheric pressure in a process still poorly understood. The molecular mechanism of this process involves the conversion of a highly concentrated, predominantly disordered silk protein (spidroin) into beta-sheet-rich structures. To help store and transport the spidroins in solution, as well as probably control their conversion, a liquid crystalline arrangement is established in the storage region in the ampulla and persists into the duct. Although it has been suggested that changes in the concentration of hydrogen and metal ions play a role in the formation of the solid thread, there is no reported evidence that these ions influence the secondary structure of native spidroin in solution. Here, we demonstrate that pH values between approximately 3.5 and 4.5 induce a slow change of conformation from the disordered to the beta-sheet-rich form. We also report that Al(3+), K(+), and Na(+) ions induce similar changes in structure, while Ca(2+) and Mg(2+) stabilize the predominantly disorder state of the protein. Cs(+) and Li(+) have no apparent effect. Direct volumetric and spectrophotometric titration showed a pI of 4.22 +/- 0.33 and apparent pK values of 6.74 +/- 0.71 and 9.21 +/- 0.27, suggesting a mechanism for the effect of low pH on the protein and a rationale for the observed reduction in pH in the duct. We discuss the importance of these findings for the spinning process and the active role played by the spider to alter the kinetics of the transition.  相似文献

In the present study we assessed the identification by sequence analysis of the 15 species belonging to the genus Debaryomyces. We found that the following species can be identified both quickly and correctly by direct sequence comparison of the ribosomal 5.8S-ITS region: D. carsonii, D. etchelsii, D. maramus, D. melissophilus, D. occidentalis and D. yamadae. In contrast, the species D. castellii, D. coudertii, D. hansenii, D. nepalensis, D. polymorphus, D. pseudopolymorphus, D. robertsiae, D. udenii and D. vanrijiae showed high sequence similarity in ribosomal regions with one or several species. In these cases, sequence comparison of the ACT1 gene is proposed to ensure unequivocal strain designation.  相似文献

Summary The ribosomal proteins of seven different Enterobacteriaceae were compared with those of E. coli by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and by immunological methods. The ribosomal proteins of all Enterobacteriaceae were found to be very similar in molecular weight and in their electrophoretic properties. However, more dissimilarities could be detected by immunological methods thus indicating that few, if any, of the ribosomal proteins among the tested Enterobacteriaceae are identical. Ribosomes from all Enterobacteriaceae possess a protein which is electrophoretically identical with protein S7 from strain B (and not strain K) of E. coli.Paper No. 67 on Ribosomal Proteins. In the fourth report of the present series, five species of the genus Cercospora and allied genera were added to the Japanese fungus fiora: Cercospora brunkii Ellis et Galloway, C. richardiaecola Atkinson, Pseudocercospora annonicola Hsieh et Goh, P. xenosyzygiicola Crous, and P. celosiarum (Kar et Mandal) Deighton. In the first report of the present series, six species collected from Nansei Islands were discussed. Of these, one found onElaeocarpus japonica was described as a new species,Pseudocercospora elaeocarpicola. Pseudocercospora plumeriae onPlumeria rubra was transferred from the genusCercospora and added to the Japanese fungous flora, together withCercosporidium bougainvilleae onBougainvillea spectabilis. One of the three remaining species,Pseudcercospora punicae onPunica granatum was newly recorded from Nansei Islands. Mariner-like elements (MLEs) have been isolated from various eukaryotic genomes and they are divided into 15 subfamilies, including main five subfamilies: mauritiana, cecropia, mellifera/capitata, irritans, and elegans/briggsae. In the present study, MLEs belonging to mellifera subfamily were isolated from various spiders and insects (Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera) inhabiting the South-West Islands of Japan and neighboring regions. MLEs isolated from 15 different species formed a distinct novel cluster in mellifera subfamily. MLEs obtained from three different species [i.e., the bee Amegilla senahai subflavescens (Amsmar1), the wasp Campsomeris sp. (Casmar1), and the swallowtail butterfly Pachliopta aristolochiae (Paamar1)] contained an intact open reading frame that encoded a putative transposase. These transposases exhibited high similarity of 97.9 % among themselves. In case of Casmar1, the presence of an intact ORF was found in high frequencies (i.e., 11 out of 12 clones). In addition, these transposases also showed the presence of a terminal inverted repeat-binding motif, DD(34)D and two highly conserved amino acid motifs, (W/L)(I/L)PHQL and YSP(D/N)L(A/S)P. These two motifs differed from previously known motifs, WVPHEL and YSPDLAP. MLEs isolated from these three different species may have been inserted into their genomes by horizontal transfer. Furthermore, the presence of an intact ORF suggests that they are still active in habitats along these isolated islands.  相似文献

1. Superoxide dismutase activity has been determined in liver homogenates of five species. There were no significant differences in the activities of the enzyme in the rat, rainbow lizard, wall gecko and chicken. The activity was significantly lower in the fish. 2. The order of activity of the enzyme in the organs/tissues of the rat was liver greater than kidney greater than heart greater than skeletal muscle greater than brain greater than lung greater than spleen greater than spinal cord greater than retina greater than pancrease greater than lens greater than small intestine. 3. Inhibition studies with cyanide showed that the enzyme in the liver of the various animal species was inhibited by cyanide. 4. The developmental pattern for the enzyme showed no significant changes in the liver of the rat from birth and up to 7 weeks after.
