Purpose  

Nowadays, there is one television device for every four human beings, making television one of the most popular pieces of electrical and electronic equipment in our society, with the so-called flat-screen technologies gaining more and more market share. For one such technology, the plasma display panel (PDP), no complete life cycle assessment (LCA) studies have existed thus far, and therefore, the question as to their environmental performance, especially as compared with LCD technology, is still open. This paper describes a detailed LCA study of a PDP television, including a first comparison of it with the two competing technologies, the cathode ray tube and the liquid crystal display technologies.  相似文献

The electron distribution function over longitudinal energies in the startup plasma of the end cell of the AMBAL-M device is measured with a small-size movable electrostatic analyzer. It is found that, in the region where a substantial longitudinal current flows, the electron distribution function over longitudinal energies has a plateau in the 150–350-eV energy range.  相似文献

The transport of charged particles across a strong magnetic field with a small random component is studied in the double diffusion approximation. It is shown that the density of the particles whose initial distribution is stretched along the field satisfies a subdiffusion equation with fractional derivatives. A more general initial particle distribution is also considered, and the applicability of the solutions obtained is discussed.  相似文献

SORENA-1 is a very small repetitive Mather-type plasma focus device (20 J) that can operate at frequencies up to 1 Hz. This device has been designed and constructed in the Plasma and Nuclear Fusion Research School of the Nuclear Science and Technology Research Institute of Iran. In this article, the structure of SORENA-1 is described and results of experiments with Ar, Ne, and D2 working gases at several discharge voltages and initial pressures are presented and analyzed.  相似文献

Background

Central venous catheterization (CVC) is a basic requirement for many medical specialties. Simulated training in CVC may allow the acquisition of this competency but few reports have established a valid methodology for learning and acquiring procedural skills for CVC. This study aims to validate the use of a tracking motion device, the imperial college surgical assessment device (ICSAD), by comparing it with validated global rating scales (GRS) to measure CVC performance in a simulated torso.

Methods

Senior year medical students, first and last year residents (PGY1, LYR), and expert anesthesiologists performed a jugular CVC assessment in a simulated model (Laerdal IV Torso). A validated GRS for objective assessment of technical skills and motion analysis by ICSAD was used. Statistical analysis was performed through Mann–Whitney and Kruskal–Wallis tests for construct validity and Spearman correlation coefficients between the ICSAD and GRS scores for concurrent validity between both.

Results

32 subjects were recruited (10 medical students, 8 PGY1, 8 LYR and 8 experts). Total path length measured with ICSAD and GRS scores were significantly different between all groups, except for LYR compared to experts (p = 0.664 for GRS and p = 0.72 for ICSAD). Regarding jugular CVC procedural time, LYR and experts were faster than PGY1 and MS (p < 0.05). Spearman correlation coefficient was ?0.684 (p < 0.001) between ICSAD and GRS scores.

Conclusions

ICSAD is a valid tool for assessment of jugular CVC since it differentiates between expert and novice subjects, and correlates with a validated GRS for jugular CVC in a simulated torso.

Dynamics of the interaction of powerful streams of high-temperature plasma and fast ions generated in a device of the “Dense Plasma Focus” (DPF) type has been studied for a special case. In these experiments solid conductive targets with the shape of a plate and a tube, respectively, were placed normally and axially with respect to the Z axis of the DPF chamber on its cathode side. The secondary plasma spread out from the target surface has been examined. The shock-wave action upon the flat targets produced by the ion beam has been revealed.  相似文献

In eukaryotic cells, G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), non-transporting nutrient carrier homologues and active nutrient carriers have been recently shown to function as sensors that directly monitor the level of nutrients in the extracellular environment. The plasma membrane is not only the cellular boundary at which signalling molecules that govern metabolism and proliferation are detected, but also the boundary across which nutrients that sustain the generation of energy and building blocks are transported. Nutrient sensors combine these functions in various ways. Classical receptor proteins detect the presence of nutrients, carriers combine the functions of nutrient transporters and receptors, and carrier homologues have lost their transport capacity and become pure receptors. The activation of signal transduction pathways by nutrients adds a new layer to the regulatory network that controls metabolism and proliferation. Nutrient sensors highlight the importance of both nutrients as signalling molecules and nutrient carriers as receptors for signalling pathways.  相似文献

In this article, design of a 500-kJ Mather-type plasma focus device to achieve 1011 neutrons/shot is reported. One of its important characteristics is the triple-part anode design. The anode is surrounded by an alumina insulator. The second part of the anode is changeable in order to locate cylindrical, conical, or other shapes of pieces mounted on it. This geometry leads to the easier investigation of the neutron and X-ray emissions of the device. The third part of the anode is for changing the materials exposed to different kinds of radiations. The design parameters are considered by semiempirical and empirical formulas and are sketched by Solidworks software. Also, the peak current and neutron yield are estimated.  相似文献

As applied to a tokomak, a magnetic trap for confinement of a plasma with an inverted field or a magnetic field reversed configuration (FRC) is one of the most promising alternatives of the systems with high β. The ablation of impurity pellets in tokamak and stellarator plasmas is investigated. Different mechanisms for shielding the heat fluxes from the surrounding plasma to the pellet surface are discussed. A model for impurity pellet ablation is developed that can account for both neutral and electrostatic shielding. It is shown that the experimental values of the impurity pellet ablation rate are well described by the neutral gas shielding model over a wide range of plasma temperatures and densities. Taking into account the electrostatic shielding leads to worse agreement between the predictions of the model and the experimental data; this result still remains unclear. Scaling laws are obtained that allow one to estimate the local ablation rate of impurity pellets made of various materials over a wide range of plasma parameters in the neutral gas shielding model.  相似文献

The energy balance in the interaction of intense (W≈7 MW/cm2, Q≈130 J/cm2) flows of a high-temperature (T e+T i≈0.7 keV deuterium plasma with targets made of different materials (graphite, tungsten, copper, etc.) is studied experimentally. It is shown that radiation plays a decisive role in the interaction energy balance: a plasma layer arising near the surface of the eroded target reemits most of the plasma-flow energy into the surrounding space. No more than 50 J/cm2 reaches the surface. Then, this energy is expended primarily on the target heating and only a small fraction (less than 3 J/cm2) is spent on the evaporation of the target surface layer. It is shown that, for targets made of high-Z materials, the energy reaching the surface is transferred predominantly by radiation.  相似文献

The correlation between the neutron yield Y from a plasma focus device and the jump in the discharge current ??I has been studied experimentally. The total yield of the DD neutron source was measured by the method of activation of silver isotopes. The time dependences of the neutron and ??-radiation yields were recorded using scintillation detectors. It is found that, for the given experimental device, the neutron yield depends linearly on the jump in the discharge current ??I at the instant of neutron generation. The influence of the initial deuterium pressure in the discharge chamber on this dependence is examined.  相似文献

The problem is considered of configurations of a strongly magnetized inviscid plasma around a rotating magnetized central body. Strong plasma magnetization implies that the Hall conductivity is much lower than the transverse conductivity, which in turn is much lower than the longitudinal conductivity. For such conditions, a self-consistent set of equations is derived that describes the conduction current density, the magnetic and electric fields, and the angular frequency of the plasma rotation under the assumptions that the components of the dielectric tensor of the plasma envelope are known functions of height and that the plasma mass velocity has only the azimuthal component. Under the assumption that the transverse conductivity is constant over a magnetic surface, the nonlinear equations derived are solved in quadratures within the class of angular frequency distributions that are symmetric about the equatorial plane. A particular solution for the plasma configurations in a dipole magnetic field is considered that corresponds to a model exponential dependence of the transverse conductivity on the number of the L-envelope (or, equivalently, on the number of the unperturbed magnetic surface).  相似文献

Microwave scattering diagnostics are described that allow direct measurements of the turbulent processes in the high-temperature plasma of magnetic confinement systems. The first physical results are presented from fluctuation measurements carried out in 2000–2001 in three stellarators: L-2M (Institute of General Physics, Moscow), LHD (National Institute of Fusion Science, Toki), and TJ-II (CIEMAT, Madrid). Plasma density fluctuations in the axial (heating) regions of the L-2M and LHD stellarators were measured from microwave scattering at the fundamental harmonic of the heating gyrotron radiation. In the TJ-II stellarator, a separate 2-mm microwave source was used to produce a probing beam; the measurements were performed at the middle of the plasma radius. Characteristic features of fluctuations, common for all three devices, are revealed by the methods of statistical and spectral analysis. These features are the wide frequency Fourier and wavelet spectra, autocorrelation functions with slowly decreasing tails, and non-Gaussian probability distributions of the magnitudes and the increments in the magnitude of fluctuations. Observations showed the high level of coherence between turbulent fluctuations in the central region and at the edge of the L-2M plasma. The drift-dissipative instability and the instability driven by trapped electrons are examined as possible sources of turbulence in a high-temperature plasma.  相似文献

The principal feature of this experiment is the electron showers consisting of three tungsten wires embedded by the plasma, which are heated up consequently emitting electrons inside the diffused plasma to control the plasma parameters in the discharge section of a double plasma device. These cold electrons emitted by the heated filament are free from maintenance of discharge which is sustained in the source section. The target plasma, where electrons are injected is produced as a result of diffusion from the source section. It is found that, plasma density and plasma potential can be effectively controlled in this way.  相似文献
