Abstract

Landfilling has been widely used for solid waste disposal; however, the generation of leachate can pose a major threat to the surrounding environment in the form of soil salinity. Two native plants of North America Puccinellia nuttalliana (alkaligrass) and Typha latifolia (cattail) were selected in this study to investigate bioaccumulation of sodium (Na+) and chloride (Cl?) under controlled greenhouse conditions. The treatments include irrigation of the plants using fertilizer (F), landfill leachate (LL), and tap water (control, C). Plants cultivated after one season (12?weeks) were harvested by separating aboveground tissues and roots, and soil from each treatment was collected for analysis. The results show that alkaligrass irrigated with LL had 2.13% more biomass yield than control, but 17.63% less than that with F. However, cattail yielded 19.70% more biomass with the irrigation of LL than C and 3.04% less compared to F. Alkaligrass and cattail accumulated 6.85 and 7.00?g Na+/Kg biomass with the irrigation of LL, respectively. Alkaligrass and cattail irrigated with LL accumulated 120.14% and 94.47% more Cl? than C. When alkaligrass and cattail were irrigated with LL, the electrical conductivity of soil was reduced by 71.70% and 45.36%, respectively. This study demonstrated that using North American native halophytes could be a cost-effective and promising approach for phytoremediation of landfill leachate.  相似文献

以香附子块茎为材料,用组织培养的方法,进行试管苗繁殖研究。结果表明,1/3MS+炉灰渣培养基是块茎生长芽培养的适宜培养基;1/2MS+ZT 0.6 mg/L+NAA 0.1 mg/L是生长芽分化和继代分化繁殖培养的适宜培养基;1/2MS+ABT 2号6 mg/L+IAA 0.4 mg/L是生根和试管苗微型块茎培养的适宜培养基。培养30 d试管苗移栽成活率96%;培养60 d试管苗移栽成活率89.7%;种植的块茎发芽率99.8%;试管苗和微型块茎定植的成活率在99%以上;定植试管苗保持了香附子的植物学特征。  相似文献

We measured the flow of methane in Typha latifolia L. (cattail)-dominated wetlands from microbial production in anoxic sediment into, through, and out of emergent T. latifolia shoots (i.e. plant transport). The purpose was to identify key environmental and plant factors that might affect rates of methane efflux from wetlands to the Earth's atmosphere. Methane accumulated in leafy T. latifolia shoots overnight, reaching concentrations up to 10000 μl l−1 (vs. atmospheric concentrations <4 μl l−1), suggesting that lower stomatal conductance at night limits methane efflux from the plant into ambient air. Daytime light and (or) lower atmospheric humidity that induce convective gas flow through the plant coincided with ( a ) an increase in the rate of methane efflux from T. latifolia leaves to ambient air (from <0·1 to >2·0 μmol m−2 (leaf) s−1) and ( b ) a decrease in shoot methane concentration to <70 μl l−1. Very short fluctuation in stomatal conductance during the day did not affect the methane efflux rate unless, possibly, the rate of photosynthesis decreased. A strong relationship between the maximum daily rate of methane efflux and shoot methane concentration (measured before the onset of convective gas flow) suggests T. latifolia plants behave like a capacitor (filling with methane at night, emitting the stored methane during the day). Experimentally cutting leaves (to prevent pressurization) reduced plant capacitance for methane.  相似文献

宽叶香蒲净化塘系统净化铅/锌矿废水效应的研究   总被引:29,自引:1,他引:29  
研究了以宽叶香蒲(Typha latifolia)为优势群落的净化塘系统来处理广东韶关凡口铅/锌矿选矿废水。经5年多的监测结果表明,该系统能有效地净化铅/锌石广废水。在进入净化塘系统前,未处理的废水合有高浓度的悬浮物(4 635mg/L)和重金属[Fb(1.61mg/L)、Zn(1.96mg/L)和Cd(0.022mg/L)]等,经过净化后,水质明显改善,pH从8.03下降到7.74,总悬浮物去除率达99%,Pb去除率为90%,Zn和Cd去除率为84%,其它重金属如Cu、Fe和Al等也都有不同程度的降低。  相似文献

Municipal effluent of three rural settings of Islamabad was assessed for physicochemical and microbiological parameters by collecting wastewater from inlet and center of ponds. Results showed that water quality was comparatively better at the center as Typha latifolia plants were growing toward the center of ponds. In another study, the wastewater treatment ability of T. latifolia was investigated by growing them in industrial and municipal effluent under greenhouse conditions. Water and plant samples were collected periodically (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st day after transplanting) for the measurement of Pb, Cu, and Cd concentrations. A decrease in heavy metal concentration of both effluents was observed as the experiment progressed and metal removal percentages ranged between 81% and 96%. Complementary the increase in metal concentration in plant tissues was observed over experimental period. Among plant tissues, metal concentration of Pb was highest i.e. 362 mg kg?1 in roots and 313 mg kg?1 in shoots at end of experiment. Pb, Cu, and Cd concentrations were higher in roots than shoots and hence translocation factors were less than 1.0. Metal removal efficiency was better from industrial wastewater and was in order of Pb > Cu > Cd. T. latifolia can be used for remediation of heavy metal-polluted wastewater.  相似文献

Cyperus rotundus L. is a monocotyledonous perennial weed, which forms large numbers of tubers during its vegetative growth. Since these tubers represent major sinks, source/sink interactions are more complex, and leaf senescence and proteolytic processes in this species may be different from the situation in the well‐investigated annual crop plants characterized by monocarpic senescence. Judged by native PAGE and by inhibitor studies, three different aminopeptidases, one iminopeptidase, two or more carboxypeptidases and two or more different endopeptidases were present in mature green leaves. Exo‐ and endoproteolytic activities increased during the senescence of excised leaf segments. A marked change was observed in the endopeptidase pattern, since a cysteine proteinase activity was strongly induced during senescence of the segments. This endopeptidase was also found in naturally senescing leaves and may, therefore, participate in nitrogen salvage from these organs. An increase of different protease activities was demonstrated in leaf segments of C. rotundus in the presence of high carbohydrate levels. The mechanisms involved, and the importance of this phenomenon for the interaction between source/sink relations and senescence, remain to be demonstrated.  相似文献

Gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/MS), using both electron impact (EI) and chemical ionization (CI) detection modes on apolar and polar stationary phases, led to the determination of the volatile composition of the essential oil obtained from tubers of Cyperus rotundus (Cyperaceae). In this study, more than 33 compounds were identified and then compared with the results obtained in our previous work. Cyperene, alpha-cyperone, isolongifolen-5-one, rotundene, and cyperorotundene were the principal compounds comprising 62% of the oil. An in vitro cytotoxicity assay with MTT indicated that this oil was very effective against L1210 leukaemia cells line. This result correlates with significantly increased apoptotic DNA fragmentation. The oxidative effects of the essential oil were evaluated using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), xanthine/xanthine oxidase assays, and the scavenging of superoxide radical assay generated by photo-reduction of riboflavin. The antimutagenic activity of essential oil has been examined by following the inhibition of H(2)O(2) UV photolysis which induced strand-break formation in pBS plasmid DNA scission assay. Based on all these results, it is concluded that C. rotundus essential-oil composition established by GC/MS analysis, in EI- and CI-MS modes, presents a variety of a chemical composition we were not able to detect with only GC/MS analysis in our previous work. This essential oil exhibited antioxidant, cytotoxic, and apoptotic properties.  相似文献

In previous studies on the causes of imbibitional leakage in dry polien we have presented data which suggest that the leakage is due to a gel to liquid crystalline phase transition in membrane phospholipids during the rehydration event. In the present study we greatly extend and confirm those results. A supplemented phase diagram for the hydration dependent transition temperature of membrane phospholipids in pollen is presented. In pollen containing > 0.05 g H2O g−1 dry weight at the time of imbibition, this phase diagram for the phospholipids precisely predicts the conditions for rehydration under which germination is maximal and leakage is minimal. However, in extremely dry pollen, containing < 0.05 g H2O g−1 dry weight the predictive value of the phase diagram for phospholipids in the pollen is not in agreement with data for germination and leakage. Thus, an alternative explanation must be sought for leakage in these circumstances. We examined the available evidence and suggest here that a modified form of the non-bilayer phase hypothesis proposed by Simon (1974) may apply in the specialized case of extremely dry cells.  相似文献

The potential of reed beds to act as biofilters of pathogenic and environmental mycobacteria was investigated through examination of the fate of mycobacteria in a constructed reed bed filtering effluent from a large captive wildfowl collection. Particular emphasis was placed on the presence and location of Mycobacterium avium – the causal agent of avian tuberculosis (ATB) – in an effort to clarify the potential role of reed beds in the control of this disease. Water, sediment, and stems and roots of common reed ( Phragmites australis ) and greater reedmace ( Typha latifolia ) were taken from 15 locations within the reed bed plus sites upstream and downstream. Samples were analysed for mycobacteria using PCR and specifically for M. avium using nested PCR. Environmental mycobacteria were found throughout the entire reed bed but M. avium was not found downstream of the first vegetation growth. The reed bed was found to effectively remove M. avium from the water through a combination of sedimentation and adsorption onto vegetation stems. The results of this study show that constructed reed beds composed of a settlement lagoon and one or more vegetation beds can act as valuable and ecologically friendly tools in the environmental control of ATB.  相似文献

Germplasm must be stored under optimal conditions to maximize longevity and efficiently maintain genetic resources. In order to identify optimal storage conditions, we investigated the effects of temperature (−5 to 45°C) and water content (<0.17 g H2O g−1 dry weight) on longevity of Typha latifolia L. pollen. Longevity was highest at water contents corresponding to storage relative humidity (RH) of 11‐15% which corresponded to the shoulder of water sorption isotherms. Also coinciding with this shoulder were abrupt changes in heat capacity of water present in the pollen. Consistent with changes in isotherms with temperature and the concept of critical RH for storage, optimum water contents increased with decreasing temperature. An attempt was made to explain the aging behavior according to the glass concept. The water content‐temperature combinations of optimal storage were found to be below the glass transition curve, indicating that optimum storage conditions are achieved when intracellular glasses are present. We also found a change in activation energy of aging in Arrhenius plots around Tg, demonstrating a change in aging kinetics when the glassy state is lost. We concluL that Tg curves cannot be used solely to predict precise conditions of optimum storage, but might be useful for predictions of storage longevity above optimum water contents. The data imply that too much drying reduces longevity and should be avoided, particularly when cryogenic storage is considered.  相似文献

The structure of the alcohol has been identified by spectroscopic and chemical methods. Eight identical flavonoids were isolated from the alcoholic extract of the pollen of Typha davidiana Hand.-Mazz., Typha latifolia L. and Typha angustata Bory et Chaub. On the basis of spectroscopic (IR, UV, MS and NMR) analysis and the identification of the acidic hydrolytic products, they were identified as naringenin (Ⅰ), isorhamnetin (Ⅱ), quercetin (Ⅲ), isorhamnetin-3-O-(2G-α-L-rhamnopyrano-syl)-rutinoside(Ⅳ), quercetin-3-O-(2G-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl)-rutinoside (Ⅴ), iso-rhamnetin-3-O-rutinoside (Ⅵ),isorhamnetin-3-O-neohesperidoside (Ⅶ), kampferol-3-O-neohesperidoside (Ⅷ). 以来源于C基因组的药用野生稻的中高度重复序列C0t-1DNA为探针,在不同的洗脱严谨度下,通过荧光原位杂交对宽叶野生稻(CCDD)基因组进行了分析。结果发现,随着洗脱严谨度的调整,杂交信号呈现出较高的特异性,主要分布在着丝粒、近着丝粒及端粒区域。本文以宽叶野生稻的核型分析为基础,比较其与二倍体药用野生稻基因组的异同,从而进一步探讨野生稻的进化起源机制。  相似文献

采用潜流人工湿地系统,配制以NH+4-N、NO-3-N和PO3-4-P为主要成分的模拟污水,通过间歇运行方式,考察了芦苇和小叶章的生长情况、生理生态学特性及其对污水中N、P净化效能的影响,并研究了植物对湿地系统pH变化、NO-3-N和NH+4-N净化效率的影响。结果表明,当水力停留时间为7d时,小叶章和芦苇湿地对TN的去除率分别为65.1%和99.6%,去除负荷分别为1.66g · m-3 · d-1和2.53g · m-3 · d-1。小叶章和芦苇对去除TN的贡献率分别为14.7%、61.7%,对去除TP的贡献率分别为11.7%和12.9%;芦苇植株内N、P浓度分别为29.2mg/g和3.41mg/g。芦苇湿地的净化效能高于小叶章湿地。湿地系统中pH值先升高后降低的拐点可作为氨氧化反应结束的指示参数。  相似文献

This study aims to estimate the three greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (i.e. CO2, CH4, N2O) from a vertical subsurface flow constructed wetland (VSSF CW, 1000 m2) and a cluster of conventional wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in the city of Changzhou, China. The two estimated emissions are set up for comparison. The results show that the WWTP system emits 7.3 kg CO2-eq to remove 1 kg BOD in the studied life cycle, while the VSSF system only emits 3.18 kg CO2-eq, which is only half of the amount given off by the WWTP system. Especially at the treatment stage, the WWTP system's GHG emissions are almost 7 times higher than the VSSF system's. N2O emissions in both systems are only a minor fraction of the total emissions. Therefore, this study has concluded that the VSSF system is an effective option for GHG emissions mitigation in the wastewater sector. The study further suggests that developing countries like China should extensively build up VSSF systems for decentralized wastewater treatment, which could also potentially reduce GHG emissions by 8-17 million ton CO2-eq per year compared with the centralized scenario.  相似文献

为探讨生活污水与营养液两种不同的水源对六价铬[Cr(Ⅵ)]污染人工湿地残根分解及铬化学形态转化的影响,该研究通过构建微型薏苡人工湿地处理含铬废水 [分别以生活污水(DWS)和1/2 Hoagland营养液(HNS)配制含0、20、40 mg· L-1 Cr(Ⅵ)的配制液作为模拟含铬废水],采用埋根分解法,研究残根的分解动态,以及铬化学形态转化规律。结果表明:(1)20、40 mg· L-1 Cr(Ⅵ)胁迫下,薏苡的生长均受到抑制,HNS处理株高和茎径均大于DWS处理,但HNS处理的株高和茎径受Cr(Ⅵ)抑制程度大于DWS处理。(2)薏苡残根分解速率随Cr(Ⅵ)处理浓度的提高而降低,HNS处理残根分解速率大于DWS处理。分解60 d后,DWS处理条件下,20、40 mg· L-1 Cr(Ⅵ)处理残根铬含量比埋根初期分别降低了11.70%、8.09%,HNS处理下分别下降了15.80%、18.42%。20、40 mg· L-1 Cr(Ⅵ)处理薏苡残根的残渣态铬占比均随埋根时间的延长而降低,而乙醇提取态铬和去离子水提取态铬占比增大,醋酸结合态铬占比则显著增大。(3)残根分解初期,HNS和DWS处理出水中的COD、TN、NH4-N以及总铬含量均有提高,而后降低,变化趋势与残根分解进程一致,HNS处理人工湿地对废水中铬的去除效率更高。该研究结果表明在人工湿地植物收割后,根系分解可短时间内提高出水中铬含量,适当改善污水中营养状况,可以促进残根分解和湿地对铬的去除。  相似文献
