Parasite fauna of round goby Neogobius melanostomus (Pallas, 1814) in the Danube River was investigated in both its native range (two sites in the Bulgarian stretch of the Danube) and non‐native range of distribution (Croatian, Slovak and Austrian stretches) during 2005 and 2006. The aim was to identify possible changes in parasite communities associated with the introduction of a host into the new environment. A total of 29 metazoan parasite species were found to parasitize round goby in the Danube River; twelve of these parasite species were found in both the native and non‐native range of distribution. Introduction of a novel parasite species to the non‐native range via the round goby was not found. Eight parasite species occurred only in the native range and nine species only in the non‐native range of the round goby distribution. Losses of native parasite species in non‐native round goby populations and/or acquiring of novel parasite species in a new environment were not significant. Thirteen parasite taxa were recorded for the first time in round gobies. Three parasite taxa (Diplostomum spp., Pomphorhynchus laevis and Raphidascaris acus) were found in high prevalence and abundance at each sampling site in both the native and non‐native range. Parasite species diversity was assessed for each sampling site and season using three diversity indices (the Shannon, Simpson and Equitability indices), with the highest same‐season values found in a non‐native site in Slovakia (1.38, 0.69 and 0.60, respectively) and the lowest in a native site in Bulgaria (0.28, 0.12 and 0.14, respectively). Species diversity was higher in both non‐native round goby populations (Slovak and Austrian) compared to native Bulgarian populations. The metazoan parasite fauna of 50 specimens of Boreogadus saida (Lepechin) (Gadidae) from eastern Greenland is very similar to those of previous studies of the parasite fauna of B. saida from Greenland, eastern Canada, Alaska and the Russian Arctic. The digeneans Hemiurus levinseni, Derogenes varicus and Lecithaster gibbosus and cestode larvae were found at most stations. Single specimens of the nematode larvae Anisakis simplex were found at four stations. A comparison of the distribution of the larvae of Contracaecum sp. and Hysterothylacium sp. is difficult due to a possible confusion of the two genera. Most of the metazoan parasites of B. saida are generalist species found in several fish families. Boreogadus saida acquires most of its endoparasites by eating pelagic crustaceans, mainly copepods and amphipods. It plays an important role in the arctic ecosystem and its parasites are transferred to predatory fish, birds and mammals through the food web.  相似文献

A study of the pre-imaginal simuliid fauna of South-East Queensland was conducted to elucidate some of the aspects of their ecology. A total of 17 species of three genera (Cnephia, Austrosimulium and Simulium) bred in the area. The highest diversity of species was found to occur in mountainous areas near the coast which had the following conditions: high rainfall, steep relief, cool temperatures, on the edge of forests with streams of the order 1–3 (using a 1 : 250,000 map).More detailed studies of A. bancrofti, S. nicholsoni and S. ornatipes were made to investigate microdistribution, colonization, drift, pupation timing and population changes. Current velocity was the most important factor determining the distribution of A. bancrofti, while the distribution of S. nicholsoni was influenced by a preference for vegetation substrate and current velocity. Late instar larvae of A. bancrofti and S. ornatipes occurred in faster currents than early instar larvae. Pupae of these two species primarily occurred on the downstream side of submerged substrates. Colonization of a particular stream was dependent on the oviposition preference of gravid females while drift, looping, or descent on silk threads was used for larval dispersal from the oviposition site. Early instars of A. bancrofti drifted from quiet reaches of mature rivers to rapids, while S. ornatipes larvae appeared to be more sessile with limited dispersal from site of egg masses. Drift occurred throughout 24 hours with little change in total numbers. Early instars of A. bancrofti however showed a definite diurnal tendency while the proportion of late instars increased at night. Pupation of S. ornatipes was diurnal under undisturbed conditions. The larvae of A. bancrofti and S. nicholsoni both developed in the Brisbane River system, however the populations of A. bancrofti peaked in late winter, a dry season with stable water conditions while S. nicholsoni larvae were most abundant from late summer, at the end of the rains to the early winter. The present study compared the community of parasites in populations of Triportheus angulatus and T. curtus from a tributary of the Amazon River in northern Brazil. All hosts had one or more parasite species, 862,687 parasites were collected from T. curtus and 302,008 from T. angulatus. Species richness of parasites, Shannon diversity index and evenness index were higher for T. angulatus. The parasite communities of both hosts was similar (99%) and composed by Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Anacanthorus pitophallus, metacercariae and Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) inopinatus, with dominance of I. multifiliis. However, low infection level by Piscinodinium pilullare, Dolops sp. and Contracaecum larvae occurred only in T. angulatus, and Spironucleus sp. was found only in T. curtus. There were differences in the prevalence, intensity and mean abundance for some parasites of both hosts. There was aggregated dispersion of parasites in both hosts, but the infection of P. (S.) inopinatus in T. angulatus showed a random dispersion. For T. angulatus and T. curtus, the diversity and abundance of parasites were influenced by the host size. This was the first report of these parasite species for T. curtus, as well as of I. multifiliis, P. pilullare, Dolops sp., P. (S.) inopinatus and Contracecum sp. for T. angulatus.  相似文献

There are still only a few studies related to Bregmacerotidae larvae in Brazil, although these larvae are frequently collected in oceanic ichthyoplankton samples. Thus this study analyzes the occurrence and abundance of Bregmaceros larvae along the Brazilian central coast and describes larval characteristics. During three oceanographic cruises samples were collected between the Real River (12°S) and the São Tomé Cape (22°S). Oblique hauls were conducted from a maximum depth of 200 m, using bongo nets of 330‐ and 500‐μm mesh size. Among the 951 bregmacerotids collected, three species were identified corresponding to 89%Bregmaceros atlanticus, 8%Bregmaceros cantori and 3%Bregmaceros n. sp. B. atlanticus was widely distributed along the study area and was more frequent in stations situated beyond the 200‐m isobath; this species was more abundant during the winter, showing a peak of density between Vitória and the São Tomé Cape (355 larvae per 10 m2). Bregmaceros cantori densities were very similar during the three cruises; the highest value (25.6 larvae per 10 m2) was recorded during the winter and higher concentrations were observed in neritic stations along the 200‐m isobath. Bregmaceros n. sp. was rare in collections made during the three cruises; it was concentrated along the Bahia coast (12–18°S), and was more frequent in stations situated in the oceanic region. Bregmaceros atlanticus varying from 2.0 to 6.0 mm and Bregmaceros n. sp. larvae varying from 3.0 to 6.0 mm were present in all cruises, indicating that they spawn year‐round. Bregmaceros cantori did not show a distribution pattern among the different length classes, probably associated with the fact that this species has a coastal distribution.  相似文献

In all 155 specimens of the high Arctic codfish Arctogadus glacialis examined for metazoan parasites, 55 specimens were from southern and northern Baffin Bay, western Greenland, and 100 specimens from north-eastern Greenland and Scoresby Sound. A total of 20 parasite taxa were recorded. A new myxozoan Gadimyxa arctica was found in southern Baffin Bay and Scoresby Sound. The gadid myxozoan Zschokkella hildae, the digeneans Gonocerca phycidis and Lecithaster gibbosus, the gill copepod Haemobaphes cyclopterina and third-stage larvae of the nematodes Anisakis simplex and Hysterothylacium aduncum were found in Scoresby Sound only. The digenean Hemiurus levinseni and third-stage larvae of the nematode Contracaecum sp. were found at all four stations. The nematodes Ascarophis spp. were found at three stations. The parasite fauna of A. glacialis from Scoresby Sound was very similar to that of 50 specimens of the closely related Boreogadus saida from the same area.  相似文献

Strelkovimermis spiculatus ( Poinar and Camino 1986 ) is a nematode parasite of mosquitoes isolated from the Neotropical region. We investigated the host range of this parasite in mosquito populations for a better understanding of the dynamics of temporary breeding sites. Five grassy‐pool habitats filled by rainwater were sampled from the summer 2007 through the fall 2008. Eight mosquito species were collected: Anopheles albitarsis, Culex chidesteri, Culex dolosus, Culex maxi, Aedes albifasciatus, Psorophora ciliata, Psorophora cyanescens, and Psorophora albigenu. Six of these species were parasitized: Cx. chidesteri, Cx. dolosus, Cx. maxi, Ae. albifasciatus, Ps. ciliata, and Ps. cyanescens. The occurrence of this mermithid in natural mosquito populations was increased from the end of winter to the end of the spring. Prevalence ranged from 11% to 100%. High levels of infections were registered only in Ae. albifasciatus larvae, the most abundant mosquito species (95%), followed by Cx. dolosus (2.7%). Strelkovimermis spiculatus completed its development in all infected mosquito larvae. The presence of S. spiculatus in six natural mosquito populations increases the number of susceptible species to 24.  相似文献

The concentrations of Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn inChironomus gr.thummi were determined for 4th instar larvae from the polluted Dyle River, tributary of the Scheldt River (Belgium). Comparison was made between larvae with deformed and normal menta. Deformed larvae showed higher overall metal concentrations than normal larvae. Especially Pb and Cu had higher concentrations in deformed larvae (16.22 mg kg–1 dry weight and 39.66 respectively) than in normal larvae (12.80 mg kg–1 dry weight and 35.70 respectively). No significant differences were found in the concentrations of Cd and Zn (mean [Cd] = 0.81 mg kg–1 dry weight and mean [Zn] = 313.12 mg kg–1 dry weight). There was no difference between the two larval groups as far as total length, dry weight and developmental stage of the imaginal discs are concerned.  相似文献

Feeding in the platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) was investigated by identifying material found in the cheek pouches of animals trapped in nets in a study area on the upper Shoalhaven River, N.S.W. Benthic samples were taken in the rapids and pools of the river and the relative abundance of food items available was related to the food found in the platypus cheek pouches. The main food organisms found were insect larvae, notably Trichoptera, Diptera, Coleoptera, Ephemeroptera and Odonata. Subsidiary food items found included freshwater shrimp (Paratya australiensis), bivalve mollusks (Sphaerium sp.) and one anuran. The main food items were generally taken in direct proportion to their numerical abundance in the river. Comparisons are made with the food selected by the brown trout (Salmotrutta) from the area. Estimates are made of the weights of invertebrate food necessary to maintain a platypus in various seasonal conditions.  相似文献

Biological control potential of nine entomopathogenic nematodes, Heterorhabditis bacteriophora CLO51 strain (HbCLO51), H. megidis VBM30 strain (HmVBM30), H. indica, Steinernema scarabaei, S. feltiae, S. arenarium, S. carpocapsae Belgian strain (ScBE), S. glaseri Belgian strain (SgBE) and S. glaseri NC strain (SgNC), was tested against second-, and third-instar larvae and pupae of Hoplia philanthus in laboratory and greenhouse experiments. The susceptibility of the developmental stages of H. philanthus differed greatly among tested nematode species/strains. In the laboratory experiments, SgBE, SgNC, HbCLO51 and HmVBM30 were highly virulent to third-instar larvae and pupae while SgBE was only virulent to second-instar larvae. Pupae were highly susceptible to HbCLO51, HmVBM30, SgBE and SgNC (57–100%) followed by H. indica and S. scarabaei (57–76%). In pot experiments, HbCLO51, SgBE and S. scarabaei were highly virulent to the third-instar larvae compared to the second-instar larvae. Our observations, combined with those of previous studies on other nematode and white grub species, show that nematode virulence against white grub developmental stages varies with white grub and nematode species.  相似文献

In order to better understand the immune response of Notothenia coriiceps to Pseudoterranova decipiens larvae and other irritant stimuli, we implanted a catgut suture thread, killed P. decipiens larvae and macerated P. decipiens larvae in the hepatic and muscle tissues of the fish. The response varied according to the tissue concerned and the extent of the lesion. The most noticeable immune response occurred with the implant of parasite larvae macerate in the liver, which indicates immunological memory, since all the captured fish were found infected with P. decipiens. An intense response also occurred after macrophages had infiltrated the cuticle of the implanted dead parasite in the liver, which confirms that the cuticle acts as a physical barrier to the immune system. Nevertheless, the immune response of N. coriiceps does not appear able to eliminate the infection and the fish in nature appear to suffer no adverse clinical effects. Accepted: 19 June 1999  相似文献

Microplitis kewleyi Muesebeck is a gregarious internal parasite of larvae of the black cutworm Agrotis ipsilon (Hufnagel). Studies of the biology of the parasite revealed that there was an inverse relationship between host instar and parasite preference. Duration of development from egg to pupa ranged from 18 days at 27°C to 68.7 days at 16°C. Development from egg to pupa took 13.5–21.6 days when fourth and first instar host larvae, respectively, were parasitized. A larger number of parasites emerged from hosts parasitized in the fourth instar (22.4) than the first instar (11.5). Parasite pupation occurred when the host was in the fifth/sixth instar, depending on the instar parasitized. Thirty‐nine per cent of host larvae exposed as first instars to parasites died before parasite emergence. This decreased to 0% for host larvae exposed as fourth instars. The sex ratio was 1:1.2 (M:F). Thirty‐seven per cent of hosts exposed diurnally were stung, compared to 24% exposed nocturnally. Mean daily progeny was highest (12) on the first day, decreasing to zero after 20 days. Percent host parasitism was also highest on the first day (35%) decreasing to nearly 0% after 18 days. There appear to be three parasite larval instars. Host larvae often remained alive after parasite emergence.  相似文献

Analysis of the food composition, distribution, lengths and dry weights of larval bleak, Mirogrex terraesanctae (Steinitz, 1952) in Lake Kinneret, Israel was conducted. Indices of electivity of ingested prey organisms were also determined. Larvae were surveyed throughout the 1989–90 reproductive seasons (Dec–Mar). Small larvae (<10.28 mm SL) preferentially select prey items smaller than 180 µ. Dominant zooplankters in the larval guts included: Bosmina longirostris, Ceriodaphnia reticulata and C. rigaudi, Asplanchna priodonita, Synchaeta oblonga, S. pectinata and juvenile cyclopoid copepods. Diaphanosoma brachiurum was rarely found (instars only) and no adult copepods were observed in larval guts. Some larvae specimens were found with up to 500 undigested (intact) accidentally ingested cells of Peridinium spp. per gut.  相似文献

Thirty nine wild birds from seven families (Alcedinidae, Emberizidae, Furnariidae, Parulidae, Trochilidae, Turdidae and Tyrannidae) were caught from 4 to 7 of February, 2004 at Rincón da Vassoura (31°15′ S 56°03′ W) Department of Tacuarembó, Uruguay. Ninety one nymphs and forty one larvae of Ixodidae were recovered from them. The majority of ticks were conventionally identified but 16S mitochondrial rDNA sequences were obtained for larvae and nymphs of Amblyomma with uncertain specific status to be compared with sequences of species from this genus. The 16S rDNA of Haemaphysalis juxtakochi Cooley was also obtained. Most ticks, 1 nymph of Amblyomma longirostre (Koch), 5 larvae of Amblyomma aureolatum (Pallas) and 3 nymphs of Amblyomma spp., 10 nymphs and 71 larvae of H. juxtakochi, 23 nymphs and 12 larvae of Ixodes pararicinus Keirans and Clifford, were found on the 5 Turdus albicollis Vieillot and 6 Turdus rufiventris Vieillot (Turdidae) caught. One nymph of A. longirostre and 2 nymphs of I. pararicinus were collected from the only Syndactyla rufosuperciliata (Lafresnaye) (Furnariidae) captured; 1 larva of I. pararicinus was collected on one of two Basileuterus leucoblepharus (Vieillot) (Parulidae) trapped and 1 nymph of A. longirostre was found on one of nine Elaenia parvirostris Pelzeln (Tyrannidae) captured. All these findings constitute new host records with the exception of I. pararicinus on S. rufosuperciliata, and stress the importance of Turdus as hosts for I. pararicinus, H. juxtakochi and A. aureolatum. Nymphs of H. juxtakochi and Amblyomma spp. were also found on man and vegetation.  相似文献

During a survey of the parasite fauna Neogobius spp., which only recently invaded Hungarian reaches of the Danube River upstream from Budapest, it was found that Neogobius melanostomus and N. fluviatilis had become common species. Neogobius kessleri was less frequent and the previously widespread Proterorhinus marmoratus was drastically reduced. The parasite fauna of the newcomer fish species was characterized by ubiquitous parasites of a wide host range, such as the trematode Nicolla skrjabini, the metacercariae of Metagonimus yokogawai and Apatemon cobitidis, the larval stages of the acanthocephalan Pomphorhynchus laevis and the nematode Rhaphidascaris acus, the glochidia of an Anodonta sp. (Mollusca) and the ciliophoran Ichthyophthirius multifiliis. The specific parasites of Neogobius spp. were represented by three intestinal coccidia: Eimeria daviesae, Goussia kessleri, and a new species described here as Goussia szekelyi sp. n. This survey showed that the rapid invasion of Ponto‐Caspian gobies in the northern Danube caused important changes in the fish fauna composition of the Danube River and enriched the parasite fauna of Hungarian fishes.  相似文献

Chaoborus larvae were collected from the riverine drift of the Mwenda River during the 1972/3 rainy season. Large numbers of larvae were found in the early stages of flow following the 1972 dry season, fewer were found ten days later.Larvae which reached the lake in this way appeared to show no ill effects. Possible mortality arising prior to reaching the sampling point was doubtful since no dead larvae or parts were found in the material collected.  相似文献

The larvae of Caenis (Caenidae) and Tricorythodes (Tricorythidae), once considered to be confamilial, have notable morphological and behavioural similarities. Univariate and multivariate (discriminant analysis) techniques were used to determine which environmental variables best characterized the larval habitats of Caenis and Tricorythodes at 40 sample sites on 29 rivers within the Interior Plains of Alberta, Canada. River width, depth and substrate type distinguished riverine habitats of the two genera. Larvae of Tricorythodes occurred in wide rivers of varying depths that possessed coarse substrates. Although larvae of Caenis occurred in a variety of habitats, they were found more frequently on stable substrates in narrow, deep rivers.  相似文献

Subcutaneous larvae of Hypoderma spp. (Diptera: Oestridae) were detected in the dorsal region in 10 roe deer, Capreolus capreolus (Artiodactyla: Cervidae), hunted in central Spain between January and March 2016. All larvae were found in the inner side of the hide during the skinning of the animals. The study of the morphological features of eight larvae of different stages collected from two animals allowed the identification of Hypoderma actaeon Brauer. The small size (4–5 mm) of some of the first instars suggests that the internal lifecycle of H. actaeon may be exclusively subcutaneous. This is the first confirmation of H. actaeon in roe deer; however, further studies to assess the spread of the parasite and to follow the evolution of this myiasis in roe deer are needed.  相似文献
