 Maximal voluntary strength of simultaneous bilateral exertion has been shown to be small compared to the sum of the unilateral exertions. Three experiments were conducted to determine the effects of bilateral and unilateral resistance training on this bilateral deficit and to compare these in hands, arms, and legs. In each experiment, the subjects were divided into three groups: unilateral training group, bilateral training group, and control group. The subjects of the training group performed maximal isometric handgrip training in experiment I, and maximal isokinetic arm and leg extension training in experiments II and III. In each experiment, the subjects of the training group continued one of these resistance training exercises three times a week, for 6 weeks. The increase in handgrip strength of the bilateral training group produced in the bilateral condition [5.1 (SEM 2.4)%, after 3 weeks, 6.4 (SEM 2.3) %, after 6 weeks] was significantly greater compared with the control group [−1.1 (SEM 1.0) %, after 3 weeks, −1.5 (SEM 1.1) %, after 6 weeks. The increase in leg extension power of the bilateral training group produced in the bilateral condition [16.1 (SEM 9.6) %, after 3 weeks, 24.1 (SEM 7.4) %, after 6 weeks] was significantly greater compared with the unilateral training group [−5.0 (SEM 3.4) %, after 3 weeks, −3.4 (SEM 4.2) %, after 6 weeks] and the control group [−4.3 (SEM 2.5) %, after 3 weeks, 1.5 (SEM 5.5) %, after 6 weeks]. The increase in handgrip strength of the unilateral training group produced in the unilateral condition [7.3 (SEM 1.7) %, after 3 weeks] was significantly greater compared with the control group [−0.9 (SEM 1.8) %, after 3 weeks]. The increase in arm extension power of the unilateral training group produced in the unilateral condition [7.2 (SEM 1.8) %, after 6 weeks] was significantly greater compared with the bilateral training group [−3.0 (SEM 2.3) %, after 6 weeks] and the control group [−2.1 (SEM 2.6) %, after 6 weeks]. Bilateral indexes (BI) were shifted in a positive direction by bilateral training and tended to shift in a negative direction by unilateral training. With regard to the magnitude of change in BI, there were no significant differences among handgrip, arm extension, and leg extension training. It is suggested that there is lateral specificity in resistance training and that there is no difference among body parts in the modification of bilateral deficit by lateral training. Optimizing strength training for the warfighter is challenged by past training philosophies that no longer serve the modern warfighter facing the "anaerobic battlefield." Training approaches for integration of strength with other needed physical capabilities have been shown to require a periodization model that has the flexibility for changes and is able to adapt to ever-changing circumstances affecting the quality of workouts. Additionally, sequencing of workouts to limit over-reaching and development of overtraining syndromes that end in loss of duty time and injury are paramount to long-term success. Allowing adequate time for rest and recovery and recognizing the negative influences of extreme exercise programs and excessive endurance training will be vital in moving physical training programs into a more modern perspective as used by elite strength-power anaerobic athletes in sports today. Because the warfighter is an elite athlete, it is time that training approaches that are scientifically based are updated within the military to match the functional demands of modern warfare and are given greater credence and value at the command levels. A needs analysis, development of periodized training modules, and individualization of programs are needed to optimize the strength of the modern warfighter. We now have the knowledge, professional coaches and nonprofit organization certifications with continuing education units, and modern training technology to allow this to happen. Ultimately, it only takes command decisions and implementation to make this possible.  相似文献

Recent evidence suggests that certain soccer drills produce exercise intensities suitable for physical conditioning. However, it remains debatable whether soccer drills can provide a sufficiently unified exercise intensity among different players and on repetition of a drill, because movement patterns cannot be externally controlled during soccer drills. Good reliability and low variability of exercise intensity would enable all players to receive an appropriate training stimulus. The purpose of this study was to investigate intersubject variability and intrasubject reliability in exercise intensity during soccer drills. It was hypothesized that soccer drills that involve the highest exercise intensities would demonstrate the lowest intersubject variability and the highest intrasubject reliability. Heart rates of 23 professional soccer players were recorded during a range of soccer training drills. The drills consisted of 2 vs. 2 to 8 vs. 8 normal scoring games and 2 further possession games. Heart rate responses were examined for variability, reliability, and suitability for soccer endurance training. Coefficients of variation across players were less than 3% for all drills. Paired t-tests showed no significant differences in heart rate on repetition of the drills and 95% ratio limits of agreement were 1.8-3.8%. There were no significant correlations between exercise intensity and the statistical measures of variability and reliability. Several drills produced exercise intensities suitable for soccer endurance training with mean heart rate responses ranging from 87-91% HRmax. Soccer drills such as those used in the present study appear to be an adequate substitute for physical training without the ball and thus provide simultaneous skill and fitness training. The increase in training time spent developing technical ability and/or a reduction in total training time required may be useful for soccer teams.  相似文献

Background  

Hidden Markov models are widely employed by numerous bioinformatics programs used today. Applications range widely from comparative gene prediction to time-series analyses of micro-array data. The parameters of the underlying models need to be adjusted for specific data sets, for example the genome of a particular species, in order to maximize the prediction accuracy. Computationally efficient algorithms for parameter training are thus key to maximizing the usability of a wide range of bioinformatics applications.  相似文献

The effects of vibration on the human body have been documented for many years. Recently, the use of vibration for improving the training regimes of athletes has been investigated. Vibration has been used during strength-training movements such as elbow flexion, and vibration has also been applied to the entire body by having subjects stand on vibration platforms. Exposure to whole-body vibration has also resulted in a significant improvement in power output in the postvibratory period and has been demonstrated to induce significant changes in the resting hormonal profiles of men. In addition to the potential training effects of vibration, the improvement in power output that is observed in the postvibratory period may also lead to better warm-up protocols for athletes competing in sporting events that require high amounts of power output. These observations provide the possibility of new and improved methods of augmenting the training and performance of athletes through the use vibration training. Despite the potential benefits of vibration training, there is substantial evidence regarding the negative effects of vibration on the human body. In conclusion, the potential of vibration treatment to enhance the training regimes of athletes appears quite promising. It is essential though that a thorough understanding of the implications of this type of treatment be acquired prior to its use in athletic situations. Future research should be done with the aim of understanding the biological effects of vibration on muscle performance and also the effects of different vibration protocols on muscle performance.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of an increase in training frequency on exercise-induced fatigue by using a systems model with parameters free to vary over time. Six previously untrained subjects undertook a 15-wk training experiment composed of 1) an 8-wk training period with three sessions per week (low-frequency training), 2) 1 wk without training, 3) a 4-wk training period with five sessions per week [high frequency training (HFT)], and 4) 2 wk without training. The systems input ascribed to training loads was computed from interval exercises and expressed in arbitrary units. The systems output ascribed to performance was evaluated three times each week using maximal power sustained over 5 min. The time-varying parameters of the model were estimated by fitting modeled performances to the measured ones using a recursive least squares method. The variations over time in the model parameters showed an increase in magnitude and duration of fatigue induced by a single training bout. The time needed to recover performance after a training session increased from 0.9 +/- 2.1 days at the end of low-frequency training to 3.6 +/- 2.0 days at the end of HFT. The maximal gain in performance for a given training load decreased during HFT. This study showed that shortening recovery time between training sessions progressively yielded a more persistent fatigue induced by each training.  相似文献

Complex training (CT; alternating between heavy and lighter load resistance exercises with similar movement patterns within an exercise session) is a form of training that may potentially bring about a state of postactivation potentiation, resulting in increased dynamic power (Pmax) and rate of force development during the lighter load exercise. Such a method may be more effective than either modality, independently for developing strength. The purpose of this research was to compare the effects of resistance training (RT), plyometric training (PT), and CT on lower body strength and anthropometrics. Thirty recreationally trained college-aged men were trained using 1 of 3 methods: resistance, plyometric, or complex twice weekly for 6 weeks. The participants were tested pre, mid, and post to assess back squat strength, Romanian dead lift (RDL) strength, standing calf raise (SCR) strength, quadriceps girth, triceps surae girth, body mass, and body fat percentage. Diet was not controlled during this study. Statistical measures revealed a significant increase for squat strength (p = 0.000), RDL strength (p = 0.000), and SCR strength (p = 0.000) for all groups pre to post, with no differences between groups. There was also a main effect for time for girth measures of the quadriceps muscle group (p = 0.001), the triceps surae muscle group (p = 0.001), and body mass (p = 0.001; post hoc revealed no significant difference). There were main effects for time and group × time interactions for fat-free mass % (RT: p = 0.031; PT: p = 0.000). The results suggest that CT mirrors benefits seen with traditional RT or PT. Moreover, CT revealed no decrement in strength and anthropometric values and appears to be a viable training modality.  相似文献

The hypertrophic effect of strength training is known to be due to mechanical and metabolic stimuli. During exercises with the restricted blood supply of working muscles, i.e., under the conditions of intensified metabolic stress, the training effect may be achieved with much lower external loads (20% of one repetition maximum). The effects of 8 weeks of high-intensity (80–85% of one repetition maximum) strength training were compared to low-intensity (50% of one repetition maximum) training without relaxation. The high-intensity strength training resulted in higher increases in strength and size of the exercised muscles than training without relaxation. During high-intensity training, at the muscle cross section, an increase in the area occupied by type II fibers prevails; while, during training without relaxation, an increase in the area occupied by type I fibers prevails. An exercise session without relaxation leads to a more pronounced increase in the secretion of the growth hormone, insulin-like growth factor-1, and cortisol. The expression of gene regulating myogenesis (Myostatin) is changed in different ways after a high-intensity strength exercise session and after an exercise session without relaxation. Low-intensity strength training (50% of one repetition maximum) without relaxation is an efficient way for inducing increases of the strength and size of the trained muscles. This low-intensive type of training may be used in rehabilitation medicine, sports, and fitness.  相似文献

Positive reinforcement training (PRT) efficiency was examined as a function of training frequency in 33 pair‐ or triple‐housed female rhesus macaques. The animals were trained three times a week, once a day or twice a day, using PRT and a clicker as a secondary reinforcer. All animals were trained on 30 sessions, with an average of 5 min per training session per animal. The behaviors, trained in succession, were Targeting (reliably touching and following a Target); Collaborating (dominant animals allowing subordinates to train while stationing); Box‐training (accepting being enclosed in a small compartment while responding to Target training) and initial Injection training. Fulfilled criteria for Targeting were obtained in 32/33 animals in a median of nine training sessions. Collaboration was obtained in 27/33 animals in a median of 15 training sessions. However, only four animals completed Box‐training during the 30 training sessions and started Injection training. When comparing training success in terms of number of training sessions, training twice a day was less efficient than the other two treatments. In terms of daily progress, our results suggest that from a management perspective, daily training is more conducive to quick training success than thrice weekly training. Target training     
The determination of the achievement of self-regulation of hand temperature can be difficult, even with adequate baseline and control procedures. Although bidirectional training is often mentioned as a technique for thorough learning and for a convincing demonstration of temperature control, patients are sometimes unwilling or unable to lower hand temperature volitionally. This case report describes a patient who, due to failure at lowering her hand temperature, developed the target training method to convince herself of her self-regulation skill. To test the hypothesis that endurance training would attenuate the carotid sinus baroreflex in rats, studies were undertaken with 25 nontrained (NT) and 22 trained (T) male Sprague-Dawley rats that were exercised for 11-14 wk. Maximal O2 consumption was significantly increased 10% after training. The left carotid sinus region was functionally isolated in anesthetized animals. Subsequently, static carotid sinus pressure was raised in 20-Torr increments from 95 Torr until a maximal response in systemic arterial pressure and regional blood flows was recorded. Compared with the NT group, baroreflex control of blood pressure and calculated regional resistance of the T animals was less responsive to changes in carotid sinus pressure. Resting blood pressure, heart rate, and changes in peripheral blood flow velocity were similar for the two groups. Peripheral sensitivity to phenylephrine-HCl and hexamethonium bromide were also similar in the T and NT groups. It was concluded that the arterial baroreflex control of blood pressure was attenuated by exercise training. These findings support the concept that the trained individual is at disadvantage during hypotensive episodes and that endurance training will attenuate the sympathetic component of the arterial baroreflex.  相似文献

The effects of intensity of run training on the pulsatile release of growth hormone (GH) were investigated in 21 eumenorrheic untrained women. The O2 consumption (VO2) at the lactate threshold (LT); fixed blood lactate concentrations (FBLC) of 2.0, 2.5, and 4.0 mM; peak VO2; maximal VO2; body composition; and pulsatile release of GH were measured. Subjects in both the at-lactate threshold (/LT, n = 9) and above-lactate threshold (greater than LT, n = 7) training groups increased VO2 at LT and FBLC of 2.0, 2.5, and 4.0 mM and VO2max after 1 yr of run training. However, the increase observed in the greater than LT group was greater than that in the /LT group (P less than 0.05). No change was observed for the control group (n = 5). No among- or within-group differences were observed for body weight, although trends for reductions in percent body fat (P less than 0.06) and fat weight (P less than 0.15) were observed in the greater than LT group, and both training groups significantly increased fat-free weight (P less than 0.05).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Strategies for the control of human movement are constrained by the neuroanatomical characteristics of the motor system. In particular, there is evidence that the capacity of muscles for producing force has a strong influence on the stability of coordination in certain movement tasks. In the present experiment, our aim was to determine whether physiological adaptations that cause relatively long-lasting changes in the ability of muscles to produce force can influence the stability of coordination in a systematic manner. We assessed the effects of resistance training on the performance of a difficult coordination task that required participants to synchronize or syncopate movements of their index finger with an auditory metronome. Our results revealed that training that increased isometric finger strength also enhanced the stability of movement coordination. These changes were accompanied by alterations in muscle recruitment patterns. In particular, the trained muscles were recruited in a more consistent fashion following the programme of resistance training. These results indicate that resistance training produces functional adaptations of the neuroanatomical constraints that underlie the control of voluntary movement.  相似文献

In the course of their Triangular Method investigation McBrideand Laing (1979) observed an improvement of the performanceof their subjects who were presented with an identical seriesof triangles in each of four consecutive sessions. In this paperit is hypothesized that the ‘‘incidental trainingeffect’ is the result of the specific experimental designused, which is a mixture of the Triangular Method and the 3-AlternativeForced Choice task. Forty two subjects of an experimental and21 subjects of a control group were presented with 18 three-stimulussets in each of six sessions. Stimuli were distilled water andNaCl solutions in distilled water. The control group subjectedto the traditional Triangular Method showed a better performancein the second session than in the first session. No furtherimprovement was observed. The experimental group subjected tothe hybrid psychophysical procedure also showed a better performancein the second session than in the first one. The hypothesizedimprovement which should occur in sessions 3–6 was notobserved. A control group (CG, n = 1,138) that implemented a traditional Basic Combat Training (BCT) physical training (PT) program was compared to an evaluation group (EG, n = 829) that implemented a PT program newly designed for BCT. The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) was taken at various points in the PT program, and injuries were obtained from a medical surveillance system. After 9 weeks of training, the proportion failing the APFT was lower in the EG than in the CG (1.7 vs. 3.3%, p = 0.03). After adjustment for initial fitness levels, age, and body mass index, the relative risk of an injury in the CG was 1.6 (95% confidence interval [CI] =1.2-2.0) and 1.5 (95% CI = 1.2-1.8) times higher than in the EG for men and women, respectively. The newly designed PT program resulted in higher fitness test pass rates and lower injury rates compared to a traditional BCT physical training program.  相似文献
