Gyrodactylus gemini n. sp. (Monogenea, Gyrodactylidae) is described from the surface of the body and fins of the fish Semaprochilodus taeniurus (Steindachner) imported into Britain from the Venezuelan Amazon. The new species differs from other species of the genus, including those described from South and Central America, by having: (i) stout hamuli with straight shafts and diverging roots; (ii) marginal hooks with the sickle length larger than the width; (iii) a dorsal bar without a medial constriction; (iv) a rectangular ventral bar with short processes; (v) a triangular ventral bar membrane; and, most obviously, (vi) at least two generations which can develop two embryos simultaneously. This is the first known species of the genus Gyrodactylus from the Venezuelan Amazon and the first record of the subgenus Gyrodactylus (Gyrodactylus) from South America.  相似文献

In the present study, two new species of Gyrodactylus are described from Profundulus oaxacae, a fish endemic to the Pacific slope of Oaxaca State, Mexico. Fishes were collected within their distribution range in 5 localities in the Atoyac-Verde River. Gyrodactylus montealbani n. sp. and G. zapoteco n. sp. were erected and characterized morphologically (sclerites of the attachment apparatus and the male copulatory organ) and molecularly (sequences of the Internal Transcribed Spacer region of rDNA). The haptoral sclerites of the new species are similar to those of Gyrodactylus iunuri and Gyrodactylus tepari, both recently described from the goodeid fish Goodea atripinnis, from the Mexican States of Jalisco and Querétaro, respectively; and to Gyrodactylus xtachuna described from the poeciliid Poeciliopsis gracilis in Veracruz State, Mexico – nonetheless, these species can all be discriminated based on their marginal hook morphology. Specimens of G. montealbani n. sp. and G. zapoteco n. sp. were sequenced, and were aligned with sequences of 25 other Gyrodactylus spp. Both Maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analyses indicated that the two new species are members of independent, well-supported lineages – these are the first Gyrodactylus species described from Profundulus oaxacae.  相似文献

A new species of Gyrodactylus von Nordmann, 1832 and the first monogenean reported from Botswana is described from the cichlid Pseudocrenilabrus philander philander,bringing the number of gyrodactylids described from the African Continent to 18. Gyrodactylus thlapi n. sp. can be readily discriminated from the other described species almost exclusively by the shape of its hamuli, which have short roots and large, elongate ventral bar attachment points with the dorsal bar attachment point, demarcating the junction between the hamulus shaft and the root, positioned at the anterior terminus of the attachment plane. The marginal hooks of G. thlapi n. sp., which most closely resemble those of G. groschafti Ergens, 1973, are compared and discussed.  相似文献

Species determination within the genus Gyrodactylus Nordmann, 1832 is based upon subtle differences in marginal hook morphology and has long posed taxonomic problems. This study uses univariate and multivariate analyses in an attempt to elucidate the Gyrodactylus species parasitising British salmonids. A total of 389 parasites were collected at 69 of 227 localities sampled throughout the British Isles from four salmonid host species, Salmo salar, Salmo trutta, Oncorhynchus mykiss and a limited number of Salvelinus alpinus. A small number of known species of Gyrodactylus from outside the UK were also added to the data set. Morphometric data on the sclerites were collected from slide preparations of Gyrodactylus using light microscopy. Univariate statistics were used to select 11 of the 18 useful morphometric features defined by Malmberg (1970) on the basis of those with the smallest natural variability and/or measurement error. The data, relating to the 11 variables chosen, were then analysed using principal components analysis (PCA) to describe the forms present. Initial outliers included foreign species of Gyrodactylus and an accidental infection by a gasterosteid form. Two major groups were resolved: one on S. salar and O. mykiss, the specimens from which resembled G. derjavini Mikailov, 1975 and G. caledoniensis Shinn et al. in press; and one on S. trutta, which was identified as G. truttae Gläser, 1974. The analysis, in addition to showing which were useful morphometric features, also demonstrated the limitations of data obtained from the smallest features when using the light microscope.  相似文献

Mature larvae and pupae of Metachorema griseum Schmid are described for the first time. The known distribution of the genus includes the province of Neuquén in Argentina and central and southern Chile. The distinctive characters of the larvae of this genus are: (1) prothoracic sternite consisting of a wide subrectangular central sclerite and a pair of elongated lateral sclerites, (2) anterior femora with a narrow basodistal process, (3) anterior tibia and tarsus fused and (4) anal prolegs with a short lateral sclerite with basal spine and claws simple with ventral spine and two ventral setae.  相似文献

Two known and two new species of Diplectanocotyla Yamaguti, 1953 (D. gracilis Yamaguti, 1953, D. megalopis Rakotofiringa & Oliver, 1987, D. langkawiensis n. sp. and D. parva n. sp.) were collected from Megalops cyprinoides (Megalopidae) off Langkawi, Kedah and Matang, Perak, Peninsular Malaysia. All four species possess similar types of sclerotised male and female reproductive structures and similar soft anatomical features. The squamodisc sclerites of all four species have spine-like projections with varying degrees of visibility and shapes (sharp-pointed to triangular). In D. megalopis and D. langkawiensis n. sp. the spines are sharp-pointed and distinct on sclerites from rows 5–6 onwards. In D. gracilis and D. parva n. sp. the sclerite spines are triangular, lightly sclerotised and occur on almost all of the sclerites. D. parva n. sp. has comparatively the smallest set of anchors, bars, squamodiscs and squamodisc suckers. The anchors and bars of the other three species are almost similar in overall size, and the main distinguishing feature is the relative lengths of the inner and outer roots of the ventral anchors. In D. gracilis the outer root is very much smaller than the inner root and they are disposed almost at a right angle to each other. In D. megalopis the outer root is usually about half the length of the inner root and the roots are inclined at c.60° to each other. In D. langkawiensis n. sp. the roots are inclined at c.40° degrees and the outer root is of a similar length or only slightly shorter than the inner root. The openings of the two squamodisc suckers of all four Diplectanocotyla species are surrounded by tiny scale-like spines. Bifid tegumental spines are found in the posterior region of all four species, differing only in their extent: in D. parva n. sp. the tegumental spines are only distributed in the peduncular region and not beyond, whilst in the other three species the tegumental spines extend from the posterior level of the testis to the end of the peduncle. The soft‐bodied Cambrian organism Wiwaxia poses a taxonomic conundrum. Its imbricated dorsal scleritome suggests a relationship with the polychaete annelid worms, whereas its mouthparts and naked ventral surface invite comparison with the molluscan radula and foot. 476 new and existing specimens from the 505‐Myr‐old Burgess Shale cast fresh light on Wiwaxia's sclerites and scleritome. My observations illuminate the diversity within the genus and demonstrate that Wiwaxia did not undergo discrete moult stages; rather, its scleritome developed gradually, with piecewise addition and replacement of individually secreted sclerites. I recognize a digestive tract and creeping foot in Wiwaxia, solidifying its relationship with the contemporary Odontogriphus. Similarities between the scleritomes of Wiwaxia, halkieriids, Polyplacophora and Aplacophora hint that the taxa are related. A molluscan affinity is robustly established, and Wiwaxia provides a good fossil proxy for the ancestral aculiferan – and perhaps molluscan – body plan.  相似文献

Introduction – A method which is widely accepted for the analysis of free proline content in plant tissues is based on the use of 3% sulfosalicylic acid as an extractant, followed by spectrophotometric quantification of a proline–ninhydrin complex in toluene. However, sample preparation and storage may influence the proline actually measured. This may give misleading or difficult to compare data. Objective and Methodology – To evaluate free proline levels fresh and frozen strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) leaves and soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] hypocotyl tissues were used. These were ground with or without liquid nitrogen and proline extracted with sulfosalicylic acid. A particular focus was the influence of plant sample cold storage duration (1, 4 and 12 weeks at ?20°C) on tissue proline levels measured. Results – The free proline content analyses, carried out in leaves of Fragaria × ananassa Duch. as well as in hypocotyls of Glycine max (L.) Merr., showed a significant influence of the sample preparation method and cold storage period. Long‐term storage of up to 12 weeks at ?20°C led to a significant increase in the measured proline in all samples analysed. Conclusion – The observed changes in proline content in plant tissue samples stored at ?20°C indicate the likelihood of the over‐estimation of the proline content if the proline analyses are delayed. Plant sample processing and cold storage duration seem to have an important influence on results of proline analyses. Therefore it is recommended that samples should be ground fresh and analysed immediately. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Chancelloriids are a group of enigmatic sessile animals that are covered with sclerites shaped as rosettes of spines, producing an appearance like that of a barrel cactus. They are known only from Cambrian rocks. Isolated sclerites of chancelloriids are widespread in small shelly faunas, but they have proven difficult to treat taxonomically due to the variation within and between individual animals. We report on large samples of chancelloriid sclerites from the Meishucunian (pre‐trilobitic Lower Cambrian) of eastern Yunnan Province, China, including material from the Dahai Member of the Zhujiaqing Formation (the Zhujiaqing section, Dahai, Huize County) and the Shiyantou Formation (the Xiaotan section, Yongshan County). The material from the Dahai Member appears to come from a single species, Chancelloriella irregularis. Statistical analysis of morphotype co‐occurrences in different samples suggests that several species are represented in the material from the Shiyantou Formation, which we herein tentatively place in four species, Allonnia erromenosa, Allonnia tetrathallis, Archiasterella charma sp. nov. and Archiasterella cf. pentactina. We suggest therefore that careful study of large collections of isolated chancelloriid sclerites permits the identification of different species, opening the possibility of their use in evolutionary or stratigraphical studies. In particular, in South China, it seems that Chancelloriella irregularis is characteristic of rocks of the Paragloborilus subglobosusPurella squamulosa Assemblage Zone and the Watsonella crosbyi Assemblage Zone, whilst Archiasterella and Allonnia first appear in the overlying Sinosachites flabelliformisTannuolina zhangwentangi Assemblage Zone. C. irregularis is thus amongst the oldest well‐characterized chancelloriids, and the irregularity and poor organization of its sclerites relative to those of younger forms support the hypothesis that chancelloriid sclerites are compound structures arising from the fusion of originally separate elements, perhaps homologous with sclerites of halkieriids and other coeloscleritophorans. The similarity between the arrangement of rays in a chancelloriid sclerite and the arrangement of bubbles in small bubble clusters suggests that in many cases, aspects of the form of chancelloriid sclerites are the result of simple physical processes.  相似文献

利用扫描电子显微镜对鹅掌楸属仅存的2个自然种鹅掌楸和北美鹅掌楸的次生木质部导管穿孔板特征进行了详细的研究。结果显示,鹅掌楸属的2个种均以梯状穿孔板为主,同时存在网状-梯状混合穿孔板。鹅掌楸和北美鹅掌楸的导管穿孔板具有明显差异:(1)鹅掌楸具网状穿孔板,而北美鹅掌楸没有观察到;(2)北美鹅掌楸具单穿孔板,而鹅掌楸在该实验中未发现;(3)北美鹅掌楸具有横隔较粗的梯状穿孔板且横隔数目较多;(4)鹅掌楸的导管穿孔板多数横隔较少;(5)北美鹅掌楸的穿孔板倾斜角度较大;(6)北美鹅掌楸具麻黄式穿孔板的存在,且有纹孔膜残留存在。研究认为,北美鹅掌楸导管分子穿孔板分化较鹅掌楸更为剧烈。  相似文献

A phylogenetic hypothesis of the subgenus Nialoe (s. lat.) of genus Pterostichus is proposed based on a cladistic analysis of seventeen morphological characters. Through comparative studies of the sclerites on the endophallus of male genitalia, it became apparent that the arrangement of these sclerites reflects seven different origins. The results show that Nialoe (s. lat.) is monophyletic and composed of four clades, while some traditional taxa are para- or polyphyletic, and are defined only by symplesiomorphies. Pterostichus (Nialoe) mosaicus sp. nov., which is indispensable for tracing the homology of sclerites in this subgenus, is described.  相似文献

Eleven species of parasite are reported from the nine-spined stickleback Pungitius pungitius (L). Nine of these, namely, Trichodina domerguei, T. tenuidens, Vorticella sp., Epistylis?, Diplostomum spathaceum, Cryptocotyle lingua, Proteocephalus filicollis, Schistocephalus solidus and glochidia of Anodonta cygnea, are new host records for Great Britain. Heteromazocraes mamaevi n. sp. is described from a cyprinid, Securicula gora (Ham.) from the Lucknow district, India. It is characterised by well-developed cephalic glands, the shape of the genital spines, the structure of the egg and the shape of the clamp sclerites. This is the first record of the genus Heteromazocraes Mamaev, 1981 from a cyprinid fish.  相似文献

Cribromazocraes llewellyni n. sp. is described from a freshwater clupeid Hilsa ilisha (Ham.) from the Kanpur District, India. It is characterised by the presence of unbranched intestinal caeca, the number and arrangement of the genital spines, the shape of the clamp sclerites and the presence of marginal hooklets. This is the first record of the genus Cribromazocraes Mamaev, 1981 from India.  相似文献

The myobiid genus Acanthophthirius Perkins, to date comprising four subgenera, is reviewed and divided into just two subgenera, the nominate subgenus and Myotimyobia Fain. The male genital shield and female opisthogastric sclerites, which are here considered to be part of female genitalia, are adopted as the criteria for dividing the subgenera. These structures are essentially the same in form and position in the subgenus Acanthopthirius in its revised sense, while they are both more heterogeneous in species of the redefined subgenus Myotimyobia. The subgenera Acanthophthirius Fain and Chiromyobia Fain are thought to represent species-groups in the nominate subgenus, named respectively the etheldredae and miniopteri groups. The following one new subspecies and 11 new species are described: A. (A.) womersleyi eptesicus, A. (A.) glauconycteris, A. (A.) mauritaniensis, A. (A.) philetoris, A. (A.) otonycteris, A. (A.) steatocaudatus, A. (A.) nyctophilis, A. (M.) vagus, A. (M.) longus A. (M.) baueris, A. (A.) hesperopteris (female only) and A. (M.) pixonixeos (female only). A. (M.) hanensis is synonymised with A. (M.) namurensis, and A. (M.) capacini is emended to A. (M.) capaccinii and relegated to a subspecies of A. (M.) myotis. All the known and new species are assigned to their respective subgenera and shown in a table. Incongruent host-relationships of some of the mites are clarified, although not completely solved, by the introduction of the new classification for the subgenera.  相似文献

Six groups of fossil remains of Kimberella quadrata are described. They represent the imprints of the body in different types of preservation (including the group of specimens that are elongated more than twice in comparison with the common ones) and also the feeding traces and mucus secretions. The imprint is considered to be created only by the upper side of the body. The fossil material shows that Kimberella had hard sclerites, probably of aragonite, and several teeth in its mouth. Kimberella is suggested to have “the mantle” with sclerites, wider foot, which was spread over the outer surface of the mantle, and the strong transverse and longitudinal musculature.  相似文献

We re-examined the type series material of Apatania koizumii Iwata and designated a lectotype and a paralectotype. We transferred Apatania koizumii to the genus Neophylax based on the morphological characters of the larvae. We redescribed the larva of Neophylax koizumii and its case and provided some ecological notes and the geographical distribution. We also examined the larvae used to describe Neophylax sp. NA (sensu Tanida 1985) and found that those belonged to Neophylax koizumii. On the other hand, the larva of Neophylax sp. NA designated by Akagi (1962) is clearly different from that of Neophylax koizumii in characters of the ventral sclerites on the meta-thorax and abdominal segment I. Two new species of the water mite family Pontarachnidae are described from Queensland, Australia: Pontarachna curvipalpis and Litarachna haleioides. Pontarachna curvipalpis can be distinguished from other members of the genus by its stocky leg segments, long apodemes of the fourth coxae, strongly bowed pre- and postgenital sclerite and wheel-like acetabula without radiating spokes. Litarachna haleoides is characterized by strongly bowed but not touching genital sclerites, relatively short apodemes of the fourth coxae, a slender palp and P2 with a ventral projection. A short discussion is provided on the occurrence of water mites on the Great Barrier Reef.  相似文献
