Fennel seed spent (FSS)—an inexpensive nutraceutical industrial spent has been used as an efficient biosorbent for the removal of Congo red (CR) from aqueous media. Results show that the conditions for maximum adsorption would be pH 2-4 and 30°C were ideal for maximum adsorption. Based on regression fitting of the data, it was determined that the Sips isotherm (R2 = 0.994, χ2 = 0.5) adequately described the mechanism of adsorption, suggesting that the adsorption occurs homogeneously with favorable interaction between layers with favorable interaction between layers. Thermodynamic analysis showed that the adsorption is favorable (negative values for ΔG°) and endothermic (ΔH° = 12–20 kJ mol?1) for initial dye concentrations of 25, 50, and 100 ppm. The low ΔH° value indicates that the adsorption is a physical process involving weak chemical interactions like hydrogen bonds and van der Waals interactions. The kinetics revealed that the adsorption process showed pseudo-second-order tendencies with the equal influence of intraparticle as well as film diffusion. The scanning electron microscopy images of FSS show a highly fibrous matrix with a hierarchical porous structure. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis of the spent confirmed the presence of cellulosic and lignocellulosic matter, giving it both hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties. The investigations indicate that FSS is a cost-effective and efficient biosorbent for the remediation of toxic CR dye. 相似文献

In order to determine the membrane protein(s) responsible for urea and water transport across the human red cell membrane, we planned to reconstitute purified membrane proteins into phosphatidylcholine vesicles. In preparatory experiments, we reconstituted a mixture of all of the red cell integral membrane proteins into phosphatidylcholine vesicles, but found that p-chloromercuribenzenesulfonate (pCMBS), which normally inhibits osmotic water permeability by approximately 90%, has no effect on this preparation. The preparation was also unable to transport urea at the high rates found in red cells, though glucose transport was normal. White ghosts, washed free of hemoglobin and resealed, also did not preserve normal urea and pCMBS-inhibitable water transport. One-step ghosts, prepared in Hepes buffer in a single-step procedure, without washing, retained normal urea and pCMBS-inhibitable water transport. Perturbations of the cytoskeleton in one-step ghosts, by removal of tropomyosin, or by severing the ankyrin link which binds band 3 to spectrin, caused the loss of urea and pCMBS-inhibitable water transport. These experiments suggest that an unperturbed cytoskeleton may be required for normal urea and pCMBS-inhibitable water transport. They also show that the pCMBS inhibition of water transport is dissociable from the water transport process and suggest a linkage between the pCMBS water transport inhibition site and the urea transport protein. 相似文献

Kolk, van Grunsven, and Keyser (1985) and Kolk and Hofstede (1987) answer "No" to the question posed in the title of this article. Let us consider instances when normal subjects use "telegraphic style." The authors mentioned above point to dialogue markers, talking to foreigners and children as such cases. However, the offered list seems incomplete and may be enlarged; in doing so, it is important to define the structure and function of agrammatical utterances in normal language users. A Russian author has an advantage in solving this because in the Russian scientific tradition the problem has been approached from both the linguistic (Potebnia, 1888; Iakubinsky, 1923; Zemskaia, 1973; Zemskaia, Kitaigorodskaia, and Shir'aev, 1981) and psychological (Vygotsky, 1934) perspectives. 相似文献

We investigated the mechanism of Congo red degradation and bacterial diversity in a single-chambered microbial fuel cell (MFC) incorporating a microfiltration membrane and air–cathode. The MFC was operated continuously for more than 4 months using a mixture of Congo red and glucose as fuel. We demonstrated that the Congo red azo bonds were reduced at the anode to form aromatic amines. This is consistent with the known mechanism of anaerobic biodegradation of azo dyes. The MFC developed a less dense biofilm at the anode in the presence of Congo red compared to its absence indicating that Congo red degradation negatively affected biofilm formation. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and direct 16S ribosomal DNA gene nucleotide sequencing revealed that the microbial communities differed depending on whether Congo red was present in the MFC. Geobacter-like species known to generate electricity were detected in the presence or absence of Congo red. In contrast, Azospirillum, Methylobacterium, Rhodobacter, Desulfovibrio, Trichococcus, and Bacteroides species were only detected in its presence. provides reasonably clear evidence for an inner nose. However, further EEG
studies and neuroimaging data seem essential for conclusive demonstration
of an inner nose.

The proportion of women occupying academic positions in biological sciences has increased in the past few decades, but women are still under-represented in senior academic ranks compared to their male colleagues. Primatology has been often singled out as a model of “equal-opportunity” discipline because of the common perception that women are more represented in Primatology than in similar fields. But is this indeed true? Here we show that, although in the past 15 years the proportion of female primatologists increased from the 38% of the early 1990s to the 57% of 2008, Primatology is far from being an “equal-opportunity” discipline, and suffers the phenomenon of “glass ceiling” as all the other scientific disciplines examined so far. In fact, even if Primatology does attract more female students than males, at the full professor level male members significantly outnumber females. Moreover, regardless of position, IPS male members publish significantly more than their female colleagues. Furthermore, when analyzing gender difference in scientific productivity in relation to the name order in the publications, it emerged that the scientific achievements of female primatologists (in terms of number and type of publications) do not always match their professional achievements (in terms of academic position). However, the gender difference in the IPS members'' number of publications does not correspond to a similar difference in their scientific impact (as measured by their H index), which may indicate that female primatologists'' fewer articles are of higher impact than those of their male colleagues. 相似文献
