The embryonic and early developmental stages of Killifish Aphanius hormuzensis reared in a laboratory condition were investigated in detail using light microscopy. The adult male and female of A. hormuzensis were captured from the wild. They were kept in laboratory condition for 2 months and spontaneously spawned at 28 ± 1°C. The fertilized macrolecithal eggs were characterized with spherical shape, transparent and average 1.60 ± 0.20 mm in diameter. The embryonic development was started with fertilized egg activation and the first cleavage was observed in 2.5 hr ± 20 min post fertilization (hpf), followed by blastula formation and gastrulation stages in 7 and 11 hpf respectively. First somite was observed in 20 hpf and the heart beating was detected in 25 hpf. The early ontogeny of A. hormuzensis was followed by complements of organs formation and the newly hatched larva with 4.9 ± 0.10 mm in length was detected in 166 hpf. This study provides a basis for further research on reproductive biology, conservation and breeding of this species.  相似文献

Microtriches on the scolices and adjacent strobila of seven species of diphyllobothriidean cestodes (Bothridium pithonis, Cephalochlamys namaquensis, Dibothriocephalus latus, Duthiersia expansa, D. fimbriata, Ligula intestinalis, and Schistocephalus solidus) from different hosts (frogs, snakes, lizards, birds, and mammals) and biogeographic areas were examined using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The basic structure of the tegument of the seven species studied does not differ markedly from that found in other cestodes. The main characteristic is the presence of electron‐dense bodies and vesicles in the distal cytoplasm. However, this study has shown differences in the morphology of microtriches even among species of the same family. Two different types of microtriches were found, filitriches and spinitriches, with the latter represented by two forms. Our study reveals that capilliform filitriches are most commonly found in Diphyllobothriidea. They were observed mainly on the strobila and the scolices of all but one studied species; individuals of L. intestinalis bore only coniform spinitriches on their surface. The same type of microtriches was found on the cirrus in D. latus. Gladiate spinitriches covered the scolex in both species of Duthiersia, and gladiate spinitriches interspersed with capilliform filitriches were observed on the anterior part of the strobila in D. fimbriata and the posterior part of the scolex in B. pithonis. Individuals of C. namaquensis were covered only by small acicular filitriches. No obvious pattern in the type and distribution of microtriches was observed among species that belong to different families and parasitize distantly related definitive hosts.  相似文献

Glassfishes of the family Ambassidae, comprising around 50 species, are distributed in the Indo‐West Pacific where they inhabit marine, estuarine, and freshwater ecosystems. We investigated for the first time the molecular phylogenetic and evolutionary relationships of this group using a combined dataset of mitochondrial and nuclear genes, particularly focusing on the taxa occurring in the Indian subcontinent. Results revealed that marine and freshwater genera of Ambassidae diverged during the Paleocene (~62 mya). The enigmatic monotypic genus Chanda is nested within the larger clade currently recognized as Parambassis, indicating its paraphyly. Based on cleared and stained osteological preparations and phylogenetic placement of Chanda nama, we hypothesize that the elongated and protruding lower jaw is an autapomorphic character that might have evolved for the lepidophagous habit of the species. The southern Indian species of Parambassis, Parambassis dayi, and Parambassis thomassi, which formed a monophyletic group, probably diverged from other species of Parambassis and Chanda nama around the Eocene (~42 mya) and can potentially be recognized as a distinct genus in view of the apomorphic characters such as the presence of serration on the ventral fringe of interopercle, densely serrated palatine and ectopterygoid, and the presence of more than 30 serrations along the lower preopercle and the posterior edge. Our analysis provides new insights into the evolution and phylogenetic relationships of glassy perchlets, including detailed relationships among the Indian species within this family.  相似文献

The taxonomy of ceratioid fishes is challenging and frequently based on a small number of female specimens described for each species. Twenty ceratioid specimens caught on Flemish Cap and Grand Bank (western North Atlantic), representing 12 species and six families: Ceratias holboelli and Cryptopsaras couesii (Ceratiidae); Himantolophus albinares (Himantolophidae); Melanocetus johnsonii (Melanocetidae); Lophodolos acanthognathus, Oneirodes eschrichtii, Dolopichthys karsteni, and Leptacanthichthys gracilispinis (Oneirodidae); Caulophryne polynema (Caulophrynidae); and Haplophryne mollis, Linophryne brevibarbata, and L. bicornis (Linophrynidae) were identified by examination of morphological characters. DNA barcode sequences, from the 5′ end of the COI mitochondrial gene, were developed for 18 specimens and compared with all ceratioid barcode sequences available in public repositories. The analyses extended the ranges of some quantitative traits for certain species, highlighted the possible existence of cryptic species in Ccouesii with distinct ranges in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and indicated a close relationship between Bertella and Dolopichthys meriting further attention. The authoritative identification of the 18 voucher specimens made possible detection of erroneous identifications of some sequences extracted from the repositories and highlighting of taxonomic conflicts that should be the subject of future studies.  相似文献

The sperm cell morphology and spermatogenesis of Halacaroides antoniazziae Pepato Tiago and da Rocha 2011 and Acaromantis vespucioi Pepato and Tiago 2004 was investigated. Halacaroides sperm cells have a complete acrosomal complex, dense tubules crossing the cytoplasm and modified mitochondria. Mature sperm cells are surrounded by two kinds of secretions. Inside the ejaculatory duct, they lie upon a centre composed of a secretion structured as heaps of elongated bodies. Acaromantis spermatozoa are spindle shaped and lack an acrosomal complex. The plasmalemma is deeply folded; the cytoplasm is very reduced and devoid of organelles. A single kind of globular secretion was found. The sperm mass is surrounded by two layers of amorphous secretions. These species share a peripheral pattern of nuclear condensation during spermatogenesis, a possible apomorphy for most halacarids, and no special adaptation to the interstitial environment could be related to their sperm cell morphology.  相似文献

The present study reports the occurrence of Contracaecum multipapillatum (Nematoda: Anisakidae) in an indigenous small killifish, Aphanius hormuzensis Teimori, Esmaeili, Hamidan, Reichenbacher, 2018 from Southern Iran and shows its histopathology. A total of 110 A. hormuzensis specimens were collected from Shur (Naband) River, Hormuzgan basin in Southern Iran and examined for their possible parasitic infections. Third‐stage larva of C. multipapillatum was extracted for the first time from the body cavity of 19 fish specimens (one male and 18 female) and identified by molecular and morphological methods. In comparison with non‐infected fishes, the melanomacrophage centers were detected in the tissue sections from liver, kidney and spleen of all the parasite infected fishes. To date, 16 parasites belong to nine families have been recorded from six Aphanius species (out of 15 known species) in Iran. Among them, eight and four parasites have been identified from A. vladykovi, and A. hormuzensis respectively. Since Aphanius species are living in different environments, therefore, they seem to be good hosts for the different types of parasites, and more new parasites are expected to be found in these fishes.  相似文献

Eucryptorrhynchus scrobiculatus (Olivier) and E. brandti (Harold) are two wood boring pests of Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle (tree of heaven) and the variety Ailanthus altissima var. Qiantouchun. These beetles attack healthy trees and bore into roots and trunks during the larval stage. We studied the typology, distribution and morphostructure of the sensilla on the antennae, maxillary palps and labial palps of E. scrobiculatus and E. brandti larvae using scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed the following: (i) the antennae of the two weevil larvae had two types of sensilla, sensilla basiconica (S.b.1 and S.b.2) and sensilla twig basiconica (S.tb.1‐S.tb.3), with S.tb.4 observed only on the antennae of E. brandti larvae; (ii) the maxillary palps had three types of sensilla, S.b.2, S.tb. (S.tb.2, S.tb.3 and S.tb.5) and digitiform sensilla; (iii) the labial palps had two types of sensilla, S.b.2 and S.tb. (S.tb.2, S.tb.3 and S.tb.5); (iv) the quantity and distribution of sensilla on the antennae, maxillary palps and labial palps remained constant between E. scrobiculatus and E. brandti larvae; and (v) sensilla basiconica had distinct sidewall pores, an apical pore was observed on sensilla twig basiconica, and digitiform sensilla were oval in shape, with a distinct apical pore. Based on the microstructure of the cuticle wall and dendrite, we hypothesized that these sensilla functioned as olfactory, gustatory and hygro‐/thermo‐receptors, respectively. We discuss the relationships among types of sensilla and the types of damage caused by the larvae inside the host tree to understand olfactory and gustatory receptor mechanisms. The results of this study will provide a firm basis for future electrophysiological studies.  相似文献

The Southern‐fur‐seal belongs to the order Carnivora, suborder Pinnipedia, and Otariidae family. This species inhabits aquatic and terrestrial environments, thus presenting important morphophysiological adaptive changes, especially in the cardiac system. For this purpose, Southern‐fur‐seal (Arctocephalus australis) hearts were used from animals that died from natural causes. Gross morphology observations were supported by light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The heart was long and flat; it was lined by pericardium and partly covered by lungs. Structurally, atrium and ventricle muscle fibers exhibit typical features of cardiac fibers revealing myofibrils bundles, mitochondria, plate‐shaped junctions, anastomosis between myofibrils bundles, and electron‐dense granule natriuretic around the nucleus and mitochondria of atrium muscle cells. The Southern‐fur‐seal heart was structurally similar to other mammals; however, it presented morphological changes that assist in their adaptation to their environment.  相似文献

Identification of rodents is very difficult mainly due to high similarities in morphology and controversial taxonomy. In this study, mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) was used as DNA barcode to identify the Murinae and Arvicolinae species distributed in China and to facilitate the systematics studies of Rodentia. In total, 242 sequences (31 species, 11 genera) from Murinae and 130 sequences (23 species, 6 genera) from Arvicolinae were investigated, of which 90 individuals were novel. Genetic distance, threshold method, tree‐based method, online BLAST and BLOG were employed to analyse the data sets. There was no obvious barcode gap. The average K2P distance within species and genera was 2.10% and 12.61% in Murinae, and 2.86% and 11.80% in Arvicolinae, respectively. The optimal threshold was 5.62% for Murinae and 3.34% for Arvicolinae. All phylogenetic trees exhibited similar topology and could distinguish 90.32% of surveyed species in Murinae and 82.60% in Arvicolinae with high support values. BLAST analyses yielded similar results with identification success rates of 92.15% and 93.85% for Murinae and Arvicolinae, respectively. BLOG successfully authenticated 100% of detected species except Leopoldamys edwardsi based on the latest taxonomic revision. Our results support the species status of recently recognized Micromys erythrotis, Eothenomys tarquinius and E. hintoni and confirm the important roles of comprehensive taxonomy and accurate morphological identification in DNA barcoding studies. We believe that, when proper analytic methods are applied or combined, DNA barcoding could serve as an accurate and effective species identification approach for Murinae and Arvicolinae based on a proper taxonomic framework.  相似文献

The tongues of ten seagulls and six common buzzards were examined. In both species, papillae linguales caudales were shaped like a letter “V” between the corpus linguae and the radix linguae. From these papillae, the length of the laterally placed papillae was greater compared with others in both species. Two or three secondary papillae were detected on these papillae in the seagull. In scanning electron microscope (SEM) examinations, in the seagull, the apex linguae was composed of multilayered desquamated cells, while in the buzzard, scalelike simple projections on the surface of desquamated cells were observed. In the buzzard, glandula (gll). linguales, and gll. mandibulares caudales were seen, while in the seagull, gll. cricoarytenoideae and gll. mandibulares caudales were present. In the seagull, apex linguae were bifurcated, and there were desquamating multilayered cells, particularly at the apex linguae. The number and location of salivary gland orifices are specific to this species. The common buzzard had similarities to many characteristics of the long‐legged buzzard. An absence of long and curly threadlike projections at the two lateral sides of the corpus linguae and an excessive number of salivary gland orifices at the corpus linguae were the main differences from the long‐legged buzzard.  相似文献

Using mitochondrial COI sequencing, we explored the genetic diversity and population structuring of the common cockle Cerastoderma edule (Linnaeus, 1758) in the Norwegian and Barents Seas. Phylogeographic diversity and hence the evolutionary history of C. edule on the Scandinavian and Russian coastlines were found to be richer than expected for populations of temperate species in postglacially colonized seas. A major phylogeographic break at Lofoten Islands separated a group of subarctic populations dominated by a distinct star‐shaped clade of haplotypes from those to the south, extending to the North Sea and having highest gene diversities (h). At the northeastern edge of the range of C. edule, the Russian Murman coast, populations show a mosaic structure with considerable admixture of haplotypes from the south and high local‐scale variation in haplotype diversity (ranging between 0 and 0.8). To explain this mosaic we refer to the core‐satellite metapopulation model, with Norwegian populations as core, and Murman populations as satellites. Our results contradict the conventional biogeographic paradigm implying lack of metapopulation structuring in marine broadcast spawning invertebrates. Hypotheses considered to explain the origin of the unique variation in cockles from Northern Norway involve an early postglacial colonization and establishment of these populations (10–12 ka ago), a persistent oceanographic break at Lofoten, and a mitochondrial selective sweep associated with the postglacial recolonization of the subarctic seas by the boreal C. edule.  相似文献

Opsariichthine (sensu Oceanologi Et Limnologia Sinica, 1982, 13, 293–298) is a cyprinid group consisting of five genera and endemic to East Asia. Previous studies suggested that there may be many possible cryptic species in this group, but this has not been confirmed. In this study, using mitochondrial cyt b sequences on 1,388 samples and 739 haplotypes, we showed very high species diversity within this group. The results showed that phylogenetic relationships of the opsariichthine group were as ([NipponocyprisParazaccoCandidia] + [Zacco + Opsariichthys]), and there were multiple deep lineages within several species, flagging putative cryptic species. When a 3% genetic distance was used as a threshold for species delimitation, 35 haplogroups were found, nine haplogroups in CandidiaParazaccoNipponocypris group, six haplogroups in the Zacco group, and 20 haplogroups in the Opsariichthys group. We consider all of them to be putative until determination of distinct species based on the tree topology, geographic distributions, or a combination of both. In addition, two kinds of species delimitation tools, ABGD and PTP, were applied to construct molecular operational taxonomic units (MOTUs). The ABGD method revealed nine MOTUs in CandidiaParazaccoNipponocypris group, two MOTUs in the Zacco group, and 17 MOTUs in the Opsariichthys group. And the PTP method revealed 10 MOTUs in CandidiaParazaccoNipponocypris group, 10 MOTUs in the Zacco group, and 29 MOTUs in the Opsariichthys group. Therefore, there should be more species in the opsariichthine group than presently described. Based on the molecular data and morphological characteristics, we proposed Opsariichthys macrolepis as a valid species and described its morphological diagnostic characters.  相似文献

Eriborus applititus Sheng & Sun (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) is a specialist parasitoid of the small carpenter moth Holcocerus insularis Staudinger (Lepidoptera: Cossidae). Each year damages to trees caused by H. insularis lead to extensive economic and ecological losses. E. applititus is thus a promising candidate for use as a biocontrol agent against H. insularis. To investigate the means by which E. applititus locates and parasitizes H. insularis, we used scanning electron microscopy to determine the morphology and distribution of sensilla on antenna, ovipositor and leg of male and female E. applititus. Eight different sensilla types were found: sensilla chaetica, sensilla trichodea, sensilla placodea, sensilla basiconica, sensilla coeloconica, sensilla pit basiconica, sensilla campaniformia and Böhm's bristles. The sensilla types were differently distributed in the three organs. In addition, differences between sexes were found in the distribution of sensilla trichodea type 2, sensilla placodea and sensilla chaetica type 4. Putative functions of the sensilla are discussed based on the morphological and location data and on previous research. Chemosensitive sensilla are putatively involved in host detection, pheromone detection and host discrimination processes. Mechanoreceptive sensilla likely function as vibrational sensors and are thought to be critical for accurate ovipositor positioning.  相似文献

A new species of paedomorphic gobioid, Schindleria elongata, from the Red Sea, is described on the basis of five specimens. The new species is characterized by its lack of body pigmentation; the body depth at pectoral‐fin origin 4–5% of standard length (LS) and at anal‐fin origin 5–7% LS; the predorsal length 66–70% LS; pre‐anal length 66–71% LS; dorsal‐fin rays 13 or 14; anal‐fin rays 10 or 11; first dorsal‐fin ray at myomere 20 or 21; first anal‐fin ray below second to fourth dorsal‐fin rays; myomeres 19 or 20 + 13 or 14 = 33 or 34 total; premaxillae and dentaries with small teeth; gas bladder located posteriorly at 56–60% LS; males with a rod‐like, flexible urogenital papilla lacking lobes, projections or accessory papillae, with distal half tapering to a broad, angular point and usually posteriorly directed. A key to the species of Schindleriidae is presented.  相似文献

Little has been known about the impacts of past vicariance events on the phylogeography and population structure of freshwater fishes in East Asia. The aims of this study are to assess the genetic variability with extensive sampling throughout the range of Chinese spiny loach, Cobitis sinensis, and to infer the genetic structure and evolutionary history of populations. Cobitis sinensis in China may have initiated from two ancestral populations, namely Yangtze and Pearl Rivers, which diverged about 7.24 MYA likely due to drainage systems alteration. In the phylogroup I, a southward dispersal event occurred from East China (Yangtze River) to south ZheMin and Hainan subregions, followed by eastward dispersal from ZheMin to south Taiwan. In the phylogroup II, eastward colonization took place from Pearl River to north Taiwan in the late Pliocene, coupled with loss of genetic diversity in the island populations. This study showed that Cenozoic tectonic movements and climatic and sea‐level fluctuations may have shaped the genetic structure of C. sinensis in concert. Highly diverged mtDNA sequences suggest existence of cryptic species in morphospecies C. sinensis.  相似文献

The sardine Sardina pilchardus Walbaum, 1792 is a small pelagic fish species that sustains an economically important fishery in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. Eight perfect microsatellite loci of sardine were characterized from a partial genomic library enriched for CA repeat sequences. All loci revealed high levels of polymorphism, with the number of alleles per locus ranging between 22 and 45, and an average observed heterozygosity of 0.772. The newly described loci can be employed to determine population genetic structure of the sardine, and may aid in fishery management of this species.  相似文献
