Abstract

The purpose of this inter-species comparison (calves and pigs) was to identify methodological and biological influences on the collection and composition of exhaled breath condensate (EBC). A total of 352 EBC samples were collected, whilst variables of ventilation were registered in parallel. Partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) and pH were analysed in non-degassed EBC samples. The concentration of total protein in EBC was measured colorimetrically. In both species, lung function was evaluated before and after EBC collection. Statistical analyses were performed to study the effect of EBC collection on lung function and to identify the influence of ventilatory variables on the collection and composition of EBC. Collection of EBC did not affect lung function. Despite the volume of EBC collected per unit time being primarily dependent on ventilation per unit time, species-specific conditions during the EBC collection process resulted in different dependences of EBC collection from other variables of ventilation (i.e. maximal airflow during expiration or expired tidal volume kg?1 body weight). The concentration of protein ml?1 EBC increased with the expired volume per min and with peak expiratory flow. Although the pCO2 in fresh EBC was significantly negatively dependent on the duration of collection, comparable pHs (5.6???6.2) were measured in EBC of both calves and pigs. This veterinary study is aimed at further standardization of H2O2 and pH measurements in exhaled breath condensate (EBC). Data obtained in the study provide valuable information for many mammalian species including humans, and may help to avoid general pitfalls in interpretation of EBC data. EBC was sampled via the 'ECoScreen' in healthy calves (body weight 63-98 kg). Serum samples and condensates of ambient (indoor) air were collected in parallel. In the study on H2O2, concentrations of H2O2 in EBC, blood and ambient air were determined with the biosensor system 'ECoCheck'. In EBC, the concentration of H2O2 was found to be dependent on food intake and increased significantly in the course of the day. Physiologically, lowest H2O2 concentrations at 06:00 varied within the range 138-624 nmol l-1 EBC or 0.10-0.94 nmol per 100 l exhaled breath and individual concentrations were significantly different indicating a remarkable intersubject variability. Highly reproducible results were seen within each subject (three different days within 4 weeks). No correlation existed between H2O2 concentrations in EBC and blood, and EBC-H2O2 was not influenced by variables of spontaneous breathing. Further results confirmed that standardization of H2O2 measurements in EBC requires (1) the re-calculation of the concentration exhaled per 100 l exhaled breath (because the analyzed concentration in the liquid condensate underlies multiple methodological sources of variability given by the collection process), and (2) subtracting the concentration of inspired indoor H2O2. In the study on pH use of the ISFET electrode (Sentron, the Netherlands) and a blood gas analyzer ABL 550 (Radiometer, Denmark) led to comparable results for EBC-pH (r=0.89, R2=79.3%, p≤0.001). Physiological pH data in non-degassed EBC samples varied between 5.3 and 6.5, and were not significantly different between subjects, but were significantly higher in the evening compared with the morning. EBC-pH was not dependent on variables of spontaneous breathing pattern or ambient conditions, and no significant correlation was found between serum and EBC for pH.  相似文献

The lungs of five female domestic Muscovy ducks, mean body weight 1.627 kg, total lung volume 48.07 cm3, were analysed by standard morphometric methods. Principal results obtained are: lung volume per unit body weight, 30.17 cm3/g; volume densities of exchange tissue relative to lung volume, 49.24%, blood capillaries relative to exchange tissue, 29.63%, tissue of the blood gas (tissue) barrier relative to exchange tissue, 5.88%; surface area of the blood-gas (tissue) barrier per unit body weight, 30.04 cm2/g; ratios of the surface area of the blood-gas (tissue) barrier per unit volume of the lung and per unit volume of exchange area, 979 cm2/cm3 and 200.06 mm2/mm3, respectively; harmonic and arithmetic mean thicknesses of the tissue barrier, 0.199 μm and 0.303 μm, respectively. The anatomical diffusing capacity of the tissue barrier for oxygen ( DtO2 ) and the total pulmonary diffusing capacity ( DLO2 ), 49.58 ml O2/min/mmHg/kg and 4.55 ml O2/min/mm Hg/kg, respectively. The lungs of the domestic Muscovy duck appear to be about as well adapted anatomically for gas exchange as the lungs of wild anatid species, and there is no clear evidence that domestication has been associated with any deterioration in the anatomical capacity for oxygen uptake. The weight-specific anatomical diffusing capacity of the lung for oxygen ( DLO2/W ) was about 3.6 times greater than the weight-specific physiological value, a factor which falls within the expected range.  相似文献

目的: 在初步验证超快反应聚合物基质光纤氧传感器及其测定系统记录颈动脉氧分压(PaO2)连续动态变化使用基础上,为了分析探讨肺通气对PaO2连续动态变化的影响,我们设计本活体整体动物实验观察研究。方法: 选择杂种山羊4只,全身麻醉气管插管空气机械通气下,切皮直接暴露把后接测定系统的氧传感器直接插入左侧颈动脉连续记录PaO2动态变化。正常分钟通气量机械通气分别通过三种潮气量实施:正常潮气量(潮气量VT=15 ml/kg、呼吸频率Rf=20 bpm)、减半潮气量(VT减半、Rf加倍)和加倍潮气量(VT加倍、Rf减半)。三种潮气量通气时间分别稳定10~15 min,选取后180 s分析计算PaO2平均值、呼吸间PaO2变化的升降幅度和肺-颈动脉延迟时间。以ANOVA及两两比较统计学差异分析不同潮气量的影响。结果: 活体山羊正常通气量机械通气实验时心率和血压均稳定;肺-颈动脉延迟时间为1.4~1.8 s(约为此时的3次心跳)。机械通气正常潮气量下PaO2平均值在(102.94±2.40,99.38~106.16)mmHg,升降幅度是(21.43±1.65,19.21~23.59)mmHg,占平均值的(20.80±1.34,18.65~22.22)%;减半潮气量下,PaO2平均值维持在(101.01±4.25,94.09~105.66)mmHg,虽略降但不显著(与正常机械通气比较P>0.05),但PaO2升降变化幅度却显著降低为(18.14±1.43,16.46~20.05) mmHg,占平均值的(17.95±1.07,16.16~18.98)%(与正常机械通气比较P<0.01);加倍潮气量机械通气下,虽仅略升的PaO2平均值维持在(106.42±4.74,101.19~114.08)mmHg(与正常机械通气比较P>0.05,与减半潮气量机械通气比较P<0.05),但PaO2升降幅度却显著增大为(26.58±1.88,23.46~28.46)mmHg,占平均值的24.99%±1.58%(与正常机械通气和减半潮气量比较P均<0.01)。结论: 正常肺通气的吸气和呼气是颈动脉PaO2上升和下降的始动因素。正常通气量机械通气下减半潮气量和倍增潮气量显著改变PaO2升降幅度,但PaO2平均值仅小幅改变,而肺-颈动脉延迟时间相近。  相似文献

At 14° C, standard metabolic rate (75·1 mg O2 h−1 kg−1), routine metabolic rate (108.8 mg O2 h−1 kg−1), active metabolic rate ( c . 380 mg O2 h−1 kg−1), critical swimming speed (Ucrit 1·7 BL s−1), heart rate 47 min−1), dorsal aortic pressure (3·2 kPa) and ventilation frequency (63 min−1) for triploid brown trout Salmo trutta were within the ranges reported for diploid brown trout and other salmonids at the same temperature. During prolonged swimming ( c . 80% U crit), cardiac output increased by 2·3-fold due to increases in heart rate (1·8-fold) and stroke volume (1·2-fold). At 18° C, although standard and routine metabolic rates, as well as resting heart rate and ventilation frequency increased significantly, active metabolic rate and certain cardiorespiratory variables during exercise did not differ from those values for fish acclimated to 14° C. As a result, factorial metabolic scope was reduced (2·93-fold at 18° C v . 5·13-fold at 14° C). Therefore, it is concluded that cardiorespiratory performance in triploid brown trout was not unusual at 18° C, but that reduced factorial metabolic scope may be a contributing factor to the mortality observed in triploid brown trout at temperatures near 18° C.  相似文献

Minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) determinations were carried out with seven growth-enhancing antibiotics against 95 Clostridium perfringens field isolates obtained during 1991 and 1992 from poultry, pigs and calves. All were resistant to 64 μg ml−1 of the bambermycin antibiotic, flavomycin (flavophospholipol) and susceptible to avoparcin (MIC90 0.25 μg ml−1), avilamycin (MIC90 0.5 μg ml−1) and salinomycin (MIC90≤ 0.12 μg ml−1). Acquired resistance against bacitracin was detected in some isolates from poultry and bovines and resistance to tylosin and virginiamycin in some strains from all species investigated. Overall, the prevalence of resistance was comparable to the low levels recorded in 1979 in Cl. perfringens isolates from the same animal host species.  相似文献

Abstract.  The periodically occurring convective inflow of air into the tracheal system, or passive suction ventilation, together with the cyclic bursts of release of CO2 and active ventilation, is recorded in diapausing pupae of Mamestra brassicae . A constant volume respirometer combined with an opto-cardiograph-actograph is used. In all pupae with a metabolic rate of 0.025–0.054 mL g−1 h−1, the bouts of almost imperceptible abdominal contractions are recorded during the bursts of carbon dioxide release and this mode of active ventilation is qualified as extracardiac haemocoelic pulsations. The pupae whose metabolic rate is 0.052–0.075 mL−1 g−1 h−1 show more vigorous abdominal contractions. The results demonstrate that, in diapausing pupae, characterized with low metabolic rates, both passive suction ventilation, referred to also as passive suction inspiration, and active ventilation occurs. In approximately 50% of the pupae, each gas exchange microcycle during the interburst periods begins with a miniature PSI followed by a microburst of CO2 release; in approximately 30% of the individuals, passive suction inspirations occur separately from CO2 microbursts; in the remaining pupae, miniature ones without microbursts of CO2 are recorded. A typical event is heartbeat reversion: in longer periods, the heart peristalses are directed forward (anterograde of heartbeat) and, in shorter periods, the heart peristalses are directed backward (retrograde of heartbeat). At 0 °C, the cyclic release of CO2 and miniature passive suction inspirations during the interburst periods are preserved at lower frequencies but active ventilation is lost.  相似文献

Rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss were exposed acutely to chloramine-T at a therapeutic concentration (9mg l−1) under moderately hypoxic (water P o2: l00 mmHg) or hyperoxic (water P o2: 430mmHg) conditions and arterial blood gas tensions ( P ao2 and P aco2) and pH were monitored using an extracorporeal circulation. Hypoxia, alone, resulted in an increased ventilation frequency, a decrease in both arterial P co2 and P o2 and an increase in arterial pH. There was no effect of chloramine-T exposure on the measured variables as compared with pre-exposure (hypoxia baseline) values. Hyperoxia, alone, resulted in a decrease in ventilation frequency, an increase in arterial P co2 and P o2, and a decrease in arterial pH. Chloramine-T exposure under these conditions caused a significant increase in ventilation frequency, but no significant effect on arterial blood gases or pH as compared with the hyperoxia baseline values. Despite the increase in ventilation caused by chloramine-T during hyperoxia, there was no reduction in P co2 or increase in P o2. Although these results were of little pathological significance, this study suggests that chloramine-T, although stimulating ventilation, was impairing the diffusion of co2 across the gill probably by the secretion of branchial mucus and enhancing the gill boundary layer.  相似文献

为了探明旱砂田西瓜在有限补灌条件下的最佳水氮耦合形式,采用完全随机裂区设计,研究不同补灌量(W: 0、35、70、105 m3·hm-2)和施氮量(N: 0、120、200 kg·hm-2)处理对旱砂田西瓜生长、产量、品质以及水氮利用率的影响.结果表明: 西瓜叶片的光合速率、水分利用效率、产量和氮肥利用率均随着补灌量的增加而增加;西瓜氮肥偏生产力和氮肥利用率均随施氮量的增加而降低;施氮量在0~120 kg·hm-2时,西瓜叶片的光合速率和品质指标随施氮量的增加而增加,超过120 kg·hm-2时不再显著增加,甚至有下降趋势;水氮耦合对西瓜产量和水氮利用效率的互作效应显著,其中灌水的增产效应大于氮肥,以W70N200和W105N120处理的西瓜产量最高,较对照分别增产42.4%和40.4%,水分利用效率随水氮组合水平的提高而增加,W70和W105水平下的所有施氮处理均在26 kg·m-3以上, W105N120处理的西瓜氮肥偏生产力和氮肥利用率最高.综合考虑各因素,在本试验条件下,砂田西瓜生育期补灌量105 m3·hm-2、施氮量120 kg·hm-2处理为产量和效益兼优的最佳水氮组合.  相似文献

采用开顶式气室熏蒸法,设置自然条件下臭氧(O3)浓度(对照,约40 nmol·mol-1)、80、160及200 nmol·mol-14个臭氧浓度,观测了不同浓度臭氧条件下银杏叶片可见伤害、活性氧生成量、抗氧化酶活性及相关基因表达变化情况,分析大气臭氧浓度升高对植物活性氧代谢的影响.结果表明: 160和200 nmol·mol-1 O3熏蒸明显伤害银杏叶片,80 nmol·mol-1与对照无差异,无可见伤害.O3处理20 d后,160和200 nmol·mol-1条件下银杏叶片的超氧自由基(O2)产生速率显著高于80 nmol·mol-1和对照,而80 nmol·mol-1与对照无差异;O3处理40 d后,160和200 nmol·mol-1熏蒸下叶片过氧化氢(H2O2)含量显著高于80 nmol·mol-1和对照,而过氧化氢酶(CAT)活性显著高于80 nmol·mol-1和对照,各臭氧处理抗坏血酸过氧化物酶(APX)活性均低于对照.熏蒸40 d后,CAT、APX基因的转录表达持续加强;防御素(GbD)的表达强度则随着臭氧浓度的增加及熏蒸时间的延长而呈显著加强.高浓度臭氧胁迫可使银杏叶片活性氧生成量增加、抗氧化酶活性下降、相关基因表达水平上调,有明显可见叶片伤害.  相似文献

目的: 在完成吸入室内空气状态下症状限制性最大极限心肺运动试验(CPET)和动脉血气指标动态变化规律的基础上,进一步探讨体液酸碱度和CO2含量对呼吸调控的影响。方法: 选正常志愿者5名,给予5%NaHCO3(总量0.3 g/kg)分次口服,每5 min口服75 ml(3.75g )。总量服完1 h后,重复CPET。于静息、热身、运动及恢复期,连续测定肺通气指标及每分钟动脉取样的血气指标变化,并与本人在非碱化血液条件下对照数据进行配对t检验比较。结果: 碱化血液之后,CPET期间随着运动功率逐步递增,气体交换和血气指标的反应模式与非碱化血液对照相似(P>0.05);即与静息状态比较,每分通气量、潮气量、呼吸频率、VO2、VCO2均呈现近于线性渐进性递增(P<0.05~0.001)。与碱化血液前吸入室内空气的对照比较:在碱化血液条件下,所有时间点血红蛋白浓度,PaCO2与pH均显著提高(P<0.05);除无氧阈PaCO2减低外,只有热身状态呈增高态势,统计学有显著差异(P<0.05);而PaO2无差异(P>0.05),各状态均较对照状态减低,除恢复期外均有统计学差异(P<0.05)。与非碱化血液对照比较,除静息每分通气量低于对照(P<0.05)外,所有通气指标均无统计学差异(P>0.05)。结论: 碱化血液条件下, 尽管有更高的CaCO2, PaCO2 和 pHa平均水平及更低的Hba和[H+]a平均水平,机体对CPET的呼吸反应模式基本相似。  相似文献

光下最大荧光(Fm)是植物生理生态研究中的重要参数,一般采用饱和脉冲(RF)方案来估计.然而,光系统Ⅱ(PSⅡ)受体库的反馈调节会影响RF方案对Fm估计的准确性.为消除PSⅡ受体库反馈调节的影响,根据光脉冲强度(Q′)与叶绿素荧光(F′)的线性关系提出多相脉冲(MPF)方案,估算Q′无穷大时的F′(即Fm).本研究采用MPF和RF方案分别对苦槠、青冈和乌桕3个树种叶片的叶绿素荧光和气体交换数据进行同步测量,并对两种方案估计的Fm及其计算参数PSⅡ光化学效率(ΦPSII)、PSⅡ的电子传递速率(J)、最大电子传递速率(Jmax)、叶肉导度(gm)和叶绿体内CO2浓度(Cc)等光合参数进行比较,分析两种方案对3个树种叶片6个光合参数的影响.结果表明: 当光合有效辐射(PAR)<200 μmol·m-2·s-1时,两种方案对苦槠、青冈和乌桕叶片FmΦPSIIJ的估计无显著影响;当PAR>200 μmol·m-2·s-1时,采用MPF方案获得的苦槠、青冈和乌桕的Fm分别比RF方案获得的Fm高3.5%~5.2%、11.7%~18.0%和3.2%~7.1%;当PAR>200 μmol·m-2·s-1时,采用MPF方案获得的ΦPSIIJJmax分别不同程度地大于RF方案获得的参数,gmCc分别不同程度地小于RF方案获得的参数.说明当PAR较低(<200μmol·m-2·s-1)时,MPF与RF方案对植物叶片FmΦPSIIJ的估计没有显著影响;当PAR较高(≥200μmol·m-2·s-1)时,MPF与RF方案对植物叶片FmΦPSIIJJmaxgmCc的估计有显著影响,且RF方案对植物叶片的FmΦPSIIJJmax比MPF方案分别有不同程度的低估,对gmCc则有不同程度的高估.  相似文献

目的探讨亲缘供者外周血红细胞参数对COBE Spectra血细胞分离机的自动外周血干细胞采集程序(AutoPBSC程序)与单个核细胞采集程序(MNC程序)的影响及经验分析。 方法选取河北燕达陆道培医院2019年6月至2021年2月小红细胞亲缘供者31例45次采集为小红细胞组,选取同期非小红细胞亲缘供者51例60次采集为非小红细胞组,分别应用AutoPBSC程序和MNC程序,比较两组采集情况及采集产品相关指标。采用独立样本t检验和Mann-Whitney U检验分析2组计量资料的差异。 结果与小红细胞AutoPBSC程序组比较,小红细胞MNC程序组血小板(PLT)降低率[(25.88±15.83)﹪比(36.64±10.22)﹪]、采集效率[32.65﹪(23.60﹪,73.82﹪)比63.74﹪ (59.83﹪,68.55﹪)]、采集物体积[(158.83±34.39)比(222.91±63.9)mL]、MNC总数[(218.04±117.57)×108/L比(350.24±127.64)×108/L]、CD34+细胞总数[113.83×106/L (79.25×106/L,154.10×106/L)比233.26×106/L (177.18×106/L,392.51×106/L)]、MNC计数[(4.04±2.61)×108/kg比(5.54±2.22)×108/ kg]、CD34+计数[1.84×106/kg (1.16×106/kg,4.41×106/kg)比3.64×106/kg (2.49×106/kg,6.37×106/kg)]均升高,差异有统计学意义(P < 0.05);与非小红细胞AutoPBSC程序组比较,非小红细胞组MNC程序组采集物体积[(162.83±51.74)比(242.56±43.25)mL]升高,差异有统计学意义(P < 0.05)。 结论对造血干细胞移植供者红细胞体积偏小时,应用MNC程序采集外周血造血干细胞,比应用AutoPBSC程序更有优势。  相似文献

In the present report, we investigated the possible importance of β1 integrins in the growth and metastasis of a murine mammary carcinoma, SP1, and a metastatic variant, SP1-3M in vivo. CBA/J female mice bearing SP1 tumor transplants were injected with anti-β1 integrin IgG or control nonimmune IgG (200 μg per mouse; i.p.) every two days. Animals received anti-CD4 antibody (100 μg per mouse) at time zero to suppress immunity against rabbit IgG. Outgrowth of macroscopic metastases from SP1, but not from SP1-3M primary tumors, was markedly inhibited in animals receiving anti-β1 integrin IgG but not nonimmune IgG. To assess the stage(s) in the metastatic cascade affected, we examined the number and diameter of micrometastatic nodules in treated and untreated groups. The diameter of micrometastases was significantly reduced in SP1-tumor-bearing mice treated with anti-β1 integrin IgG compared to control IgG, although the number of nodules per cm2 of lung sections examined remained unchanged. No change in the number or size of micrometastases in SP1-3M tumor-bearing mice was observed. No difference in the binding, or complement-mediated and antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity of anti-β1 integrin IgG with SP1 and SP1-3M cells was detected. The results suggest that under these conditions anti-β1 integrin inhibits metastatic tumor growth in lung tissue, but has minimal effect on intravasation, adhesion to target organs and extravasation.  相似文献

The effect of the iron concentration in the external environment on hydrogen production was studied using sucrose solution and the mixed microorganisms from a soybean-meal silo. The iron concentration ranged from 0 to 4000 mgFeCl2 l−1. The temperature was maintained at 37°C. The maximum specific hydrogen production rate was found to be 24.0 mlg−1 VSSh−1 at 4000 mgFeCl2 l−1. The specific production rate of butyrate increased with increasing iron concentration from 0 to 20 mgFeCl2 l−1, and decreased with increasing iron concentration from 20 to 4000 mgFeCl2 l−1. The maximum specific production rates of ethanol (682 mgg−1 VSSh−1) and butanol (47.0 mgg−1 VSSh−1) were obtained at iron concentrations of 5 and 3 mgFeCl2 l−1, respectively. The maximum hydrogen production yield of 131.9 mlg−1 sucrose was obtained at the iron concentration of 800 mgFeCl2 l−1. The maximum yields of acetate (389.3 mgg−1 sucrose), propionate (37.8 mgg−1 sucrose), and butyrate (196.5 mg g−1 sucros) were obtained at iron concentrations of 3, 200 and 200 mgFeCl2 l−1, respectively. The sucrose degradation efficiencies were close to 1.0 when iron concentrations were between 200 and 800 mgFeCl2 l−1. The maximum biomass production yield was 0.283 gVSSg−1 sucrose at an iron concentration of 3000 mgFeCl2 l−1.  相似文献

Small-angle neutron scattering experiments were performed in dilute aqueous solutions of chloroplast F1-ATPase. By contrast variation in 1H2O/2H2O mixtures and when using different concentrations of glycerol in 2H2O, structural information on the spatial distribution of dry protein and water was obtained. The maximum distance within latent and active CF1 was 12 nm. the shape of CF1 was globular. The total volume of CF1 was 900 nm3, and its dry volume (excluding the volume of one water molecule per two exchangeable hydrogen atoms) was 400 nm3. A volume of 670 nm3 was inaccessible to glycerol at low glycerol concentrations (less than 25%). At higher concentrations (up to 50%) a volume of 460 nm3 was excluded to glycerol. Within the resolution of our experiment (1.6 nm) there was no evidence for particular water-rich regions or of secluded water spaces or any particular places for glycerol exchange. Upon thiol activation of the latent enzyme only small changes in structure were detectable just at the limits of the experimental error. They suggest an enhancement of the surface roughness.  相似文献

于2015—2017年小麦生长季在山东省泰安市农业科学研究院肥城试验基地进行田间试验,供试材料为‘泰山28',在150(A1)、300(A2)、450(A3)、600 m3·hm-2(A4)4个灌水量和90(B1)、135(B2)、180(B3)、225 kg·hm-2(B4)4个施氮水平下,研究水氮组合对小麦生长发育过程中干物质积累、氮素积累、水分消耗利用、光合特性、籽粒产量等的影响。结果表明: A3B3条件下各生育阶段的干物质积累量和氮素积累量,成熟期籽粒干物质和氮素积累量均为最大,花前花后营养器官生产储藏干物质及氮素向籽粒的运输量最高,且与其他水氮组合处理差异显著。各氮素处理下,60~200 cm土层土壤耗水量均为A3>A4>A2>A1;A3B3处理下的水分利用效率和氮素利用效率高于A3B4、A4B3和A4B4。A3B3处理显著提高了开花后7~28 d的旗叶净光合速率、气孔导度和蒸腾速率,有利于小麦进行光合作用合成碳水化合物。水氮组合效应显著影响籽粒产量和产量构成,且A3B3处理下小麦产量最高,达到9400 kg·hm-2。综上,450 m3·hm-2和180 kg·hm-2的水氮组合处理可以显著提高小麦干物质和氮素积累量,并促进干物质和氮素向籽粒运输,与高水肥处理相比,可以有效提高水分利用效率和氮素利用效率,有利于增强小麦旗叶的光合能力,产生更多的碳水化合物,增加籽粒产量。  相似文献

Yields and yield components of two cultivars of day-neutral spring wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.) were assessed along a gradient of daytime carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations from about 200 to near 350 μmol CO2 (mol air)–1 in a 38 m-long controlled environment chamber. The range in CO2 concentration studied approximates that of Earth's atmosphere since the last ice age. This 75% rise in CO2 concentration increased grain yields more than 200% under well-watered conditions and by 80–150% when wheat was grown without additions of water during the last half of the 100-day growing season. The 27% increase in CO2 from the pre-industrial level of 150 years ago (275 μmol mol–1) to near the current concentration (350 μmol mol–1) increased grain yields of 'Yaqui 54' and 'Seri M82' spring wheats by 55% and 53%, respectively, under well-watered conditions. Yield increased because of greater numbers of grains per spike, rather than heavier grains or numbers of spikes per plant. Water use increased little with CO2 concentration, resulting in improved water use efficiency as CO2 rose. Data suggest that rising CO2 concentration contributed to the substantial increase in average wheat yields in the U.S. during recent decades.  相似文献

SUMMARY. Temperature and current discharge regulated phytoplanktonic concentration, chlorophyll-a concentration, the light-saturated rate of photosynthesis (Pmax), and photosynthetic capacity (Pcap) in the Mississippi River at Prairie Island, Minnesota. The chlorophyll-a maximum was 48 mg m−3 in 1975, a wet year with a high current discharge, and 190 mg m−3 in 1976, a relatively dry year. The highest values of Pmax were 0.37 (mgO2 I−1h−1) in 1975 and 1.60 in 1976. Pcap varied from 3 to 21 (gO2 per g chlorophyll-a h−1) both years, and its value was highly correlated with temperature. The temperature optimum shifted from 16°C for Pcap in the spring, to greater than 28°C in the summer. Multiple regression analysis indicated a second-order relationship of Pcap in the spring to temperature. Other independent variables explained only negligible variation of Pcap.  相似文献
