Three field experiments studying the effect of chlormequat (CCC) on the grain yield of spring wheat and the quality of the grain for baking purposes were made. In the first, CCC applied as a spray during the stage of rapid internode elongation proved more successful than application as a mixture with superphosphate drilled with the seed at sowing. Both methods prevented lodging and the depression of yield which occurred in the control plots. In the other two experiments the sole method of CCC application was by spraying.
In all three experiments CCC-treated plots had more ears per unit area and grains per ear than control plots; the one exception being at the lowest plant density derived from a seeding rate of 24 kg/ha. CCC helped prevent weather damage to the grain and as a result baking performance of the flour from treated plots was superior to that from the untreated plots.  相似文献

The effects of lodging and a plant growth regulator mixture on oilseed rape cv. Ariana were studied in three field experiments. Natural and artificially induced lodging treatments varying in time of imposition and severity were compared to a supported control. A mixture of paclobutrazol and chlormequat chloride was applied either as a spray or as paclobutrazol granules followed immediately by a chlormequat chloride spray.
In 1987, severe lodging treatments reduced yield by up to 52%. Yield penalties varied with the time at which lodging was imposed. Yield was inversely correlated with the ground cover of volunteers growing from shed seed under lodged crops.
In 1988, two experiments showed increased incidence of disease and decreases in seed yield and quality in lodged crops. Yield reductions were related to the severity of lodging. Lodging decreased oil contents and increased glucosinolate levels. PGR treatments reduced lodging and maintained yield at a level not significantly different to a supported control treatment. Oil contents were also similar in seed from PGR treated and control plots. Glucosinolate levels in PGR treated seed were similar to control levels in one experiment and intermediate to those from control and artificially lodged plots in another experiment.
The results are discussed in relation to the use of PGRs to prevent lodging in 'double zero' varieties of oilseed rape, and the potential losses from using ground vehicles to apply pesticides after flowering.  相似文献

A mixture of paclobutrazol and chlormequat chloride plant growth regulators (JF10405, Parlay C) was tested on field crops of two ‘double zero’ oilseed rape cultivars in two seasons. Application rate and timing of JF10405 were varied. Very large plots enabled the use of commercial farm equipment to treat and harvest the experiments. Untreated plots showed considerable lodging at harvest in all experiments. Treatment with JF10405 had only small effects on the height of mature plants but, generally, reduced lodging substantially even at the lowest rate tested. All JF10405 treatments increased seed yields, several significantly so, particularly a 2.50 litre/ha rate, although the optimum timing varied between experiments. Seed oil contents were little affected, but levels of glucosinolates were significantly decreased in some instances. Treatments giving good control of lodging also took less time to harvest, especially when cutting against the direction of the lodging. The results-are discussed in relation to the means by which these improvements in seed yield and quality were achieved, and crop management facilitated.  相似文献

In glasshouse experiments with plants in pots, applications of potassium chloride to the soil at 0.5 g/plant, 4 days before inoculation with Puccinia striiformis, decreased the severity of yellow rust on several winter wheat cultivars in comparison with untreated plants. Conversely, yellow rust was encouraged by applications of sodium nitrate. Sodium chloride in solution (8.6 g/l) reduced yellow rust when applied to the soil at the rate of 20 ml/plant but not when it was sprayed on to the leaves. In small-plot field experiments, sodium and potassium chlorides applied to the soil as dry powders in the spring at rates of 376, 1130 or 2260 kg/ha, significantly decreased the severity of yellow rust on most of the winter wheat cvs examined at each rate. The chlorides at these rates did not adversely affect the overall growth or yield in the absence of yellow rust.  相似文献

In experiments with spring and winter wheat at Rothamsted and Woburn during 4 years CCC increased yield at close spacing (4 in) (10 cm) more than at usual spacing (8 in) (20 cm), but there was no interaction between spacing and yield. Some experiments tested up to 2·4 cwt/acre (300 kg/ha) N to see whether yields continued to increase with more than usual amounts of N, when CCC prevented lodging. There was no evidence of this. When a short dry spell occurred at ear emergence, yield of spring wheat was increased by 6 cwt/acre (750 kg/ha) by CCC and 10 cwt (1250 kg) by irrigation. CCC probably improves yield in these conditions because the larger root system it causes enables more ear-bearing shoots to survive. CCC increases yield in two ways, either by increasing ears or grain per ear. In an unlodged crop CCC usually makes the grains smaller, but by preventing lodging it can also increase size. Usually CCC decreases the leaf area per shoot. The flag leaf may be smaller, unchanged or larger than those of untreated plants. There was no obvious connexion between flag-leaf area and grain yield; when CCC decreased flag-leaf area duration by 25 %, grain yield was unchanged. The results suggest that using CCC gives a more than even chance of a profitable yield increase.  相似文献

In two experiments, foliar sprays of either chlormequat chloride or aminozide depressed top growth, increased root yield and enhanced leaf and root colour in six carrot cultivars. In the first experiment, a direct correlation between concentration of the two retardants and root yield was apparent within the range 0–2000 mg/1 a.i. applied as run-off sprays to two cultivars. In the second experiment, increases in total root and canning-size yield and root/shoot ratio were obtained with four cultivars, but the magnitude of these effects was dependent on the time at which the retardants were applied and the time of harvest of the crop. The effects of aminozide on root yield were less persistent than those of chlormequat chloride, the yield differences between untreated and aminozide-treated plots decreasing with time after application.  相似文献

The selective action of the growth retardants chlormequat chloride and BTS 44584 on the growth of wheat and soybean was investigated. Chlormequat chloride retarded the growth of wheat whether applied as a seed soak, foliar spray or soil drench, at concentrations from 10-2 M to 10-4 M, although effectiveness depended on the age of the plant at application. BTS 44584 retarded the growth of wheat only when applied to the seeds. In soybeans, chlormequat chloride did not retard elongation growth when applied as a seed soak but showed some effects when applied as a foliar spray and more especially as a soil drench. Irrespective of the type of application, treatment with BTS 44584 retarded growth of soybeans. Thus, the selective action of the two compounds was not solely related to different species but also to timing and mode of application.  相似文献

Comparative effects of potassium chloride and potassium sulfate at various levels of potassium on the performance of ARZ variety of wheat were studied at Agriculture Research Station Dera Ismail Khan, N.W.F.P., Pakistan. The experiment was laid out in three different rotationsviz, rice-wheat, maize-wheat and fallow-wheat. Potassic fertilizers were applied at the rate of 0, 37, 74, 111 and 148 kg k/ha alongwith the basal dose of 135 kgN plus 44 kg P/ha. Wheat yield data showed that the application of 37 kg K/ha of potassium chloride was found better in case of rice-wheat and fallow-wheat rotation and 37 kg K/ha of potassium sulfate for maize-wheat rotation. On the average of the three rotations, potassium sulfate at the rate of 74 kg K/ha (90 kg K2O/ha) was found better and economical. Both the sources were almost equally effective but potassium sulfate out-yielded potassium chloride. Protein content of grains was significantly increased due to K application irrespective of the source and potassium sulfate was found with significantly higher protein content than potassium chloride.  相似文献

A 3-year study was conducted to determine the effects of mepiquat chloride and N levels on yield and quality of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). Mepiquat chloride (MC) treatments did not significantlyaffect yields; however, cotton lint yields (1980) were 688, 949, 1,011, and 1,045 kg/ha for N rates of 0, 45, 90, and 135 kg/ha, respectively. Nitrogen by MC interactions on yield were not significant for any of the 3 years. MC treatments reduced plant height for all N levels. Plant height averages over all N levels were reduced 15–33% by the addition of MC. The MC treatments significantly increased the percent of Ca and Mg in the cotton leaves on a dry-weight basis. Nitrogen concentrations of the leaves were not affected by MC treatments. Leaf N levels were not significantly affected by N fertilization in 1979, but leaf N levels in 1980 were significantly increased at the 90 kg N/ha rate when compared with the check treatment.  相似文献

Summary A field experiment was conducted at Agricultural Research Institute, Dholi during Rabi 1976–77 in sandy loam soil to study the interaction between zinc and potash in wheat. Zinc and potash were applied to the soil in the form of ZnSO4 and KCl respectively. Interaction between zinc and potash was found significant. Both the levels of zinc sulphate 12.5 kg/ha and 25 kg/ha being at par produced significantly higher grain yield over control. There was significant increase in grain yield with application of 40 kg and 80 K2O/ha over control. Potash at the rate of 120 kg in combination with 25 kg Zinc sulphate/ha decreased the yield.  相似文献

Summary Manganese, N and P fertilizers were applied to wheat in field experiments on a soil so deficient in Mn that it caused the wheat to die before heading. Yields of wheat were increased linearly by soil banded Mn to 44.8 kg/ha, giving a yield of 3.03 tonnes/ha. Yields were increased to a lesser extent by foliar-applied Mn and least by soil-broadcasted Mn. Soil N and P appeared to be adequate, yet ammonium sulphate at 56 kg N/ha where applied alone caused a yield of 1.69 tonnes/ha and ammonium sulphate nitrate gave a yield of 0.98 tonnes/ha, the increases being primarily due to the release of Mn to the plants. Calcium nitrate and triple superphosphate were much less effective in releasing Mn.  相似文献

The role of imazaquin in the absorption, translocation, and distribution of chlormequat chloride in CYCOCEL* CL has been studied in winter wheat. Three treatments were applied to the 5th leaf of the main stem at growth stage 5 (Feekes Large scale): (1)14C-chlormequat chloride, (2) CYCOCEL* CL containing14C-chlormequat chloride, and (3) CYCOCEL* CL containing14C-imazaquin. Tracing of the radioactivity was followed in the treated leaf, main stem, tillers, and roots. Results showed that more than 85% of the radioactivity absorbed remained in the treated leaf. Ten days after the application of chlormequat chloride alone, 94.4% of the14C-chlormequat was found in the treated leaf, 2.9% in the main stem, 1.2% in the tillers, and 1.4% in the root system versus 88.2, 8.2, 2.1, and 1.4%, respectively, for the chlormequat chloride plus imazaquin treatment. It was concluded that imazaquin increases the mobility and the pattern of distribution of chlormequat chloride in the plant.  相似文献

A foliar application of paclobutrazol (1 litre a.i. ha“1) was applied before flowering of lentils grown with different levels of phosphorus (0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 kg P205 ha”1). Increasing amounts of P up to 80 kg ha“1 increased plant height, crop dry matter and grain yields but also increased crop lodging. Paclobutrazol decreased plant height and lodging and increased grain yield. Maximum yields were obtained with a combination of 80 kg P ha”1 and paclobutrazol.  相似文献

Summary The study was conducted in a greenhouse and under field conditions. In the greenoouse, barley was grown to maturity in pots on a sandy soil which contained 80 and 120 meq/l of chloride and sulphate dominant salts in its saturation extract, to which 0, 10, 25 and 50 ppm P were added. In the field study, wheat was grown on loamy sand soils having 0, 25, 50 and 75 kg/ha added P levels and irrigated with either Cl- or SO4-dominant saline waters (EC=15–19 mmhos/cm). The results of the greenhouse study indicated that at maturity barley straw and grain yield was significantly increased by 50 ppm of added P both on the non-saline control and the Cl-treatments. However, 25 ppm P was optimal on the SO4-treatments. The Cl content of plants was significantly decreased and S was increased with the increase in the P content of soil. A synergistic relation between the S and P content of barley shoots was observed. In the field study wheat grain yield responded significantly to P applications upto 50 kg/ha level on the Cl-site and there was no response to applied P on the SO4-site, although the former contained more Olsen's P than the latter. The results suggested that P requirement of wheat and barley was greater on Cl- than on SO4-salinity.  相似文献

The growth of mustard was increased significantly when treated with up to 80 kg N ha–1 (N80). Spraying with (2-chloroethyl) trimethylammoniumchloride (chlormequat chloride) increased seed yield and seed protein content. Spraying nitrogen fertilized plots with chlormequat chloride, increased leaf area, leaf area ratio, leaf area duration, number of siliquae plant–1, number of seeds siliqua–1 and length of siliqua. Reducing, non-reducing and total sugars in the leaves at 80 days after sowing were also affected significantly. Chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophyll were little affected. The number of siliquae plant–1 was highly correlated with seed yield in both the seasons of experimentation. The correlation coefficient value () was 0.586 in 1982/83 and 0.912 in 1983/84.The total accumulation of nutrients, i.e. nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in seed and straw was significantly affected by N80 × chlormequat chloride interaction.  相似文献

Summary A cotton and a wheat experiment were conducted in sequence to evaluate the effect of residual and fertilizer N on wheat with a water table fluctuating between 65 and 125 cm. Cotton treatments, replicated four times, consisted of 3 irrigation treatments as main plots and 6 N levels as subplots (0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125 kg N/ha). After cotton the plots were planted to wheat and each subplot was divided into two equal sub-subplots. One received N at a rate similar to that previously applied to cotton and the other sub-subplot was left without N application for evaluating the residual effect. Determination of N forms in the soil before wheat indicated that NO3-N content of the top 25 cm increased from 4.4 to 16.3 ppm as N applied to cotton increased from 0 to 125 kg/ha. On the other hand, mineralizable-N was greater in the control than in the fertilized treatments, suggesting a priming effect on the mineralization of soil N. The residual effect on wheat was related to mineralizable-N rather than to NO3-N as grain yield was higher for the control than for the residual fertilizer N treatments. The yield was also higher for the more frequent than for the less frequent irrigation treatments, which may be attributed to increase in mineralization with soil water content. Wheat response to N application was significant. But high N levels accompanied by frequent irrigation enhanced lodging with subsequent reduction in yield. Measuring N uptake by grain and straw indicated 37% recovery of fertilizer N. It was concluded that under the prevailing conditions of high water table wheat response was largely dependent on the applied fertilizer due to insignificant residual N availability.  相似文献

Summary During 1976 through 1978, 10N treatments (combinations of N application times and rates) were used in a corn study. Those treatments created different levels of soil NO 3 –N content that were well-suited to a study of the influence of residual NO 3 –N and applied N on soybean yield. In April 1979 we applied ammonium nitrate at rates of 0, 75, or 150 kg N/ha to three subplots formed from each of the whole plots (previous N treatment plots). With N fertilization in 1979, seed yield increased where the residual NO 3 –N amount was less than 190 kg/ha but decreased where the residual amount was greater than 190 kg/ha. Rates of ethephon with mepiquat chloride (as ‘Terpal’) were foliar applied to winter barley during early flag leaf emergence with or without soyal lecithin acidified with proprionic acid included as an adjuvant (‘LI700’). In both the glasshouse and field increasing the rate of ‘Terpal’ decreased the rate of stem extension exponentially, which in turn led to progressively shorter stands. As crop height extended above 0.9 m both the proportion of crop area lodged and the severity of lodging (mean angle of culms to the vertical) increased. As lodging progressed, mean grain weight was depressed and therefore ethephon with mepiquat chloride had the potential to increase yield. However, in the absence of lodging, applications of ‘Terpal’ reduced yield in direct proportion to increasing the dose rate. The influence of ‘Terpal’ on yield becomes a complex interaction between phytotoxicity, probably resulting from exogenous ethylene applications and benefits accruing from the control of lodging. Adding ‘LI700’ as an adjuvant enhanced the performance of ‘Terpal’ in reducing both rate of stem extension and mean grain weight in the absence of lodging.  相似文献
