Industrial and occupational exposure to chromium compounds, particularly hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI))-containing compounds are often known to cause acute renal injury (ARI) in humans and animals. Its nephrotoxicity is associated with an increased formation of reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation in renal tissue. Recent studies suggest that antioxidants of the vitamin E family have protective effects against metal toxicity. Tocotrienols are known to have greater antioxidant activity than tocopherols and protect more efficiently against some free radical-related diseases than does tocopherols. In the present study, ARI induced by potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) has been used as a model to investigate the possible nephroprotective effect of tocotrienol-rich fraction (TRF) from palm oil. Wistar male rats having an average body weight (bw) of 210 g were divided into four groups. The first group was taken as control and injected with vehicle alone while the second group was drug control and ingested with TRF (200 mg/kg, bw, orally, once daily for 21 days); the third group served as toxicant and was pre-treated with saline, followed by a single subcutaneous (SC) injection of K2Cr2O7 (15 mg/kg bw). The fourth group was pre-treated with TRF and subsequently injected with K2Cr2O7 (same dose as for the third group). Renal functions, oxidative and nitrosative stress were evaluated on days 0, 1, 2, 4, 7, 11 and 14 after treatment with K2Cr2O7. The results revealed altered proximal tubular function; decreased glomerular filtration accompanied by oxidative damage 48 h after exposure to dichromate; while in the TRF-treated group proximal reabsorptive function, glomerular function and the cellular redox status were sustained. These results were further supported and confirmed by histological findings. The study suggests that TRF is effective in preventing K2Cr2O7-induced acute renal injury, but more studies are needed to confirm the effects of TRF as a nephroprotective agent.  相似文献

In equines, Cr2O3 is widely accepted as an indigestible marker, but there are health concerns regarding the carcinogenic properties of Cr2O3. Recently, TiO2 has been suggested to be an alternative digestibility marker in equines. However, a comparison between Cr2O3 and TiO2 has not been made in equines. Six Welsh pony geldings (initial BW: 254±3 kg; 7 years of age) fed chopped alfalfa hay were used to evaluate the use of TiO2 (Ti) and Cr2O3 (Cr) as markers for calculating apparent digestibility and to investigate the effect of frequency of marker administration on the measurement of digestibility values. Diets contained 4.65 kg dry matter (DM) chopped alfalfa hay supplemented with minerals, vitamins, TiO2 (3.3 g Ti/day) and Cr2O3 (3.2 g Cr/day). Ponies were dosed with either 3.3 g Ti and 3.2 g Cr once daily (DF1) or with 1.65 g Ti and 1.60 g Cr twice daily (DF2). After adaptation to the diets and procedures for 14 days, voluntary voided faeces were collected quantitatively over 7 days and analysed for moisture, ash, Ti and Cr. Apparent total tract DM digestibility (DMD) and organic matter digestibility (OMD) were calculated using the total faecal collection (TFC) and marker method (Ti and Cr). The overall mean cumulative faecal recovery of Cr and Ti (as % of intake) were 102.0% and 96.6%, respectively. Mean daily faecal recoveries of Cr as well as of Ti were not different (P=0.323; P=0.808, respectively) between treatments. Overall daily faecal recovery of Cr differed (P=0.019) from 100% when the marker was dosed once daily, whereas overall daily faecal recovery was similar to 100% for both administration frequencies when Ti was used as a marker. For both markers, the coefficient of variation of the mean faecal marker recovery between horses was lower when the markers were administrated twice per day. Across treatments, cumulative DMD and OMD estimated with Ti were similar (P=0.345; P=0.418, respectively) compared with those values determined by TFC method. When Cr was used, the calculated cumulative DMD tended (P=0.097) to be greater compared with those estimated with TFC, and cumulative OMD values were overestimated (P=0.013). Orally supplemented Ti recovery in the faeces of ponies fed chopped alfalfa hay with Ti administered once or twice daily was close to 100%, making it the preferred marker for digestibility trials in equines.  相似文献

Black locust (BL; Robinia pseudoacacia L.), a native tree of southeastern USA known to contain substantial levels of condensed tannins (CT), was fed to 32, 4 month old (20.4 kg BW) Boer cross wether goats in two randomized complete block design trials. The objectives were to examine the effects of feeding hay diets containing several levels of fresh BL foliage on intake, digestibility, and N metabolism. First year (1999) diets were HE (100% Eastern gamagrass [EGH; Tripsacum dactyloides L.] hay), HEG (70% EGH and a 30% mixture of 59% ground corn [GC; Zea mays L.], 36% soybean meal [SBM; Glycine max L.], and 5% minerals), 25BL99 (75% EGH and 25% BL leaves), and 50BL99 (50% EGH and 50% BL leaves). Second year (2000) diets were HO (100% orchardgrass [OGH; Dactylis glomerata L.] hay), HOG (70% OGH and a 30% mixture of 63% GC, 37% SBM, and 5% minerals), 50BL00 (50% OGH and 50% BL leaves), and 75BL00 (25% OGH and 75% BL leaves). In 1999, apparent digestibilities of the diets in the order listed above were 62.4, 68.2, 58.0, and 60.6% (P = 0.001) for DM and 62.8, 72.5, 56.0, and 59.1% (P = 0.001) for crude protein (CP). Acid detergent lignin digestibilities were negative for diets 25BL99 (−56.7%) and 50BL99 (−49.3%), apparently due to the formation of insoluble tannin and lignin complexes during passage through the digestive tract. Intakes of DM were similar across diets. In 2000, apparent digestibilities of diet DM (64.4, 71.7, 64.8 and 65.4%) and CP (70.0, 76.0, 66.6, and 66.5%) did not differ. Lignin digestibilities were positive for diets 50BL00 (9.4%) and 75BL00 (29.6%) unlike those for year 1999. Overall, BL contained 10% CT and 18–34% hydrolyzable tannins. In 1999, N intake, urinary N (UN) excretion and N retained were higher for diet HEG (P = 0.01) than diet HE whereas fecal N excretion (FN) was similar for diets HEG, 25BL99 and 50BL99. In 1999, FN excretion as a percentage of N intake was higher (P < 0.02) in the BL diets, although UN as a percentage of N intake did not differ among diets. In 2000, N intake and FN output were higher for BL diets compared to diets HO (P = 0.01) and HOG (P = 0.02). Fecal N as a percentage of N intake was lower (P = 0.01) for diet HOG (24.0%) than for diets 50BL00 (33.4%) and 75BL00 (33.5%). Conversely, urinary N as a percentage of N intake was higher for diets HO and HOG compared to the BL diets (P = 0.02). Increased levels of dietary BL increased FN, suggesting that tannins formed insoluble protein complexes thus hindering digestibility.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to test the effect different treatment process like dehulling, soaking, autoclaving, germination and germination in combination with autoclaving on proximate composition and antinutritional factors (ANFs) of legume seeds, cow pea and mung bean. An in vivo digestibility trial was conducted in black tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon to determine the coefficient of total tract apparent digestibility (CTTAD) of differently processed legume seeds. The CTTADs were determined by comparing the concentrations of digestibility marker (Cr2O3) in the feed and faeces of the juvenile shrimp (4 ± 0.5 g). Seeds processed by germination in combination with autoclaving were low in ANFs and higher in proximate composition with increased protein contents of 18.3 and 15.6% in cow pea and mung bean, respectively. Though trypsin inhibitor activity was significantly (P<0.05) high in germinated seeds, there was a significant reduction by 83.3 and 81.21% on germination followed by autoclaving. Due to unexpected mortality of shrimp, dietary treatments containing raw, soaked, and germinated cow pea and mung bean were removed from the trial. There was a significant difference (P<0.05) in the CTTAD values between the feedstuffs and various treatment processes made. Higher CTTAD dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP) and nitrogen free extract (NFE) were obtained with seeds processed with germination in combination with autoclaving and the trend is similar in both the seeds tested. CTTAD for DM, CP and crude lipid of the grain legumes ranged between 0.683–0.885, 0.684–0.834 and 0.704–1.302, respectively. Histological examinations on hepatopancreas and midgut of shrimp sampled at slaughter revealed some common anomalies. With the exception of the shrimp fed dehulled cowpea, histology was normal in all the shrimps sampled at the end of the digestibility trial.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to study the effects of different levels of dietary cobalt on performance, plasma and rumen metabolites and nutrient digestibility in Mehraban male lambs. Experiment 1: 28, 8–9-month-old lambs were randomly divided into four groups. Animals were fed a basal diet containing 0.088 mg Co/kg DM and were supplied with 0 (control), 0.25, 0.50, or 1.00 mg Co/kg DM as reagent grade CoSO4·7H2O. The experiment lasted for 70 days. Experiment 2: four lambs from each group in Experiment 1 were randomly allocated to the individual metabolic crates to measure the effects of dietary Co on nutrient digestibility. Final body weight, average daily gain and gain efficiency were higher (p < 0.05) in the group supplemented with 0.50 mg Co/kg DM compared to other groups. Plasma glucose and vitamin B12 concentrations increased (p < 0.05) at all levels of Co supplementation on day 68 of the experiment and for vitamin B12 were higher (p < 0.05) at 0.50 and 1.00 mg Co/kg DM compared to 0.25 mg Co/kg DM. There was no significant difference among treatments for TVFA and ruminal fluid pH. Digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein and neutral detergent fiber increased (p < 0.05) by Co supplementation, but did not differ among Co supplied treatments. The obtained results showed that lambs fed the control diet containing 0.088 mg Co/kg DM had a reduced appetite and gained less than the supplemented animals, suggesting that the level of 0.088 mg Co/kg DM was inadequate for normal growth of Mehraban male lambs, and a total level of 0.58 mg Co/kg DM might be optimum level for enhancing performance.  相似文献

The objective of this work was to evaluate the intake (I) of all Buddleia skutchii foliage (BSF), collected from three different sites (places: A, B and C) in feeding sheep (phase 1), and in combination with Pennisetum clandestinum (Pc) (phase 2). Trials of feed intake, in vivo dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), and digestibilities of crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and nitrogen balance were carried out during phase 1. Diet was given to nine Creole male lambs of 23(±3) kg body weight (BW), located in individual metabolism crates. During phase 2, four treatments were evaluated (T1 = 100% Pc, T2 = 20% BSF + 80% Pc, T3 = 40% BSF + 60% Pc and T4 = 60% BSF + 40% Pc) in a 4 × 4 Latin square design, using four ruminal cannulated Creole male rams of 50 ± 2 kg BW and remained in individual metabolism crates. In vivo digestibility (DM, CP and gross energy (GE)) and kinetics of in situ disappearance of DM were evaluated. The results in phase 1 indicated that BSF from Site B had relatively higher CP (14.9%), ADF (50.6%) content and nitrogen retention (1.93 g d−1). On the other hand, the lambs showed intake levels of 376.29 g d−1 DM, 56.21 g d−1 CP, 206.24 g d−1 ADF and 1418.21 kcal gross energy (P > 0.05); and digestibilities of 54.23% DM, 47.17% CP and 39.31% NDF. Therefore, BSF from Site B was selected for the second phase of this work as the best result. We observed that the nutrition quality of the diets was higher as a result of increasing BSF concentration in the diet. When sheep were fed on 40% BSF–60% Pc, DM intake levels of 900.6 g d−1, and DM, CP and GE digestibility of 70.0, 52.82 and 55.1%, respectively, were observed. There were not significant differences among diets, and in situ disappearance, Kd and Kp, but the diet with 60% of BSF presented higher ruminal digestibility (42.3%). The results allowed to validate the local knowledge on BSF as a promising forage species, and showed that BSF should be incorporated in a sheep production system.  相似文献

The effects of feeding different levels of wilted cassava foliage (Manihot esculenta, Crantz) on growth and diet digestibility were studied using local male growing goats with an average body weight of 14.5 kg. Thirty-two animals were randomly allocated to four groups of eight animals in a growth experiment, and four animals were assigned to a 4 × 4 Latin Square design to study digestibility. The four diets in both the growth and the digestibility studies were Gamba grass (Andropogon gayanus) as a sole diet offered ad libitum (control) or supplemented with wilted cassava foliage (WCF) at 20%, 30% and 40% of an expected daily DM intake of 3% of BW. Dry matter (DM) intake was significantly lower in the control group and increased with the level of WCF in the diet, while the DM intake of Gamba grass was not significantly changed. Total DM intake and DM intakes from Gamba grass were 472, 546, 584 and 616 g/d and 472, 457, 457 and 470 g/d for the control and treatments with 20%, 30% and 40% of WCF in the diet, respectively. The inclusion of WCF in the diet increased the apparent digestibility of DM, organic matter, N, Neutral detergent Fibre and Acid Detergent Fibre, and resulted in a higher N-retention. The average daily gains of animals fed diets with WCF were significantly higher than in the control group. The highest gain was recorded in goats with 40% of WCF in the diet (55.0 g/d) and lowest for the control (28.9 g/d). In conclusion, supplementing a basal diet of Gamba grass (Andropogon gayanus) with WCF improved DM intake, digestibility, N-retention and weight gain. The inclusion level of WCF in the diet can be up to 30%–40% of diet DM (21%–24% of total DM intake).  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of rare earth elements (REEs) on in vitro rumen fermentation, gas production, microbial protein synthesis and nutrient digestion using in vitro batch culture and continuous culture technique. A mixture of REE containing (g/kg) 380 g of LaCI3·6H2O, 521 g of CeCI3·6H2O, 30 g of PrCI3·6H2O and 69 g chlorides of other light REEs. The experimental diet consisted of 885 g/kg barley grain, 84 g/kg barley silage and 31 g/kg supplement (dry matter (DM) basis). Diet supplemented with different dosages of REE (control, no additional REE; low, 400 mg/kg REE; and high, 800 mg/kg REE, DM basis) were incubated for 4, 8, 14 and 24 h in diluted rumen fluid. At the end of 24 h of incubation, gas production and concentration of volatile fatty acid (VFA) linearly increased with increasing REE supplementation; whereas, influence of REE supplementation on VFA profile was marginal. Dry matter disappearance was not affected (P>0.10). Six dual-flow continuous culture fermenters were used in a replicated 3 × 3 Latin square with same treatments and same diet used in the batch culture. Mean ruminal pH (5.71) and total VFA (93.6 mM) concentration were not affected by supplementation of REE. The molar proportion (mol/100 mol) of acetate (39.1) and propionate (50.5) was similar among the treatments. However, the proportion (mol/100 mol) of butyrate was higher with the high REE (6.6) than with low REE (5.3) or the control (5.8). Ruminal true digestibilities of organic matter (OM) (0.785, 0.811 and 0.828), acid detergent fibre (0.360, 0.431 and 0.432) and crude protein (0.496, 0.590 and 0.589) for control, low and high REE, respectively, linearly increased with increasing REE supplementation, whereas, the increase in ruminal digestibility from low to high dosage of REE was minimal. Microbial nitrogen (N) production (g/day) and microbial efficiency (g N/kg of truly fermented OM) were not affected by treatments. Improvement of ruminal digestibility of OM due to REE supplementation was attributed to the increase in digestibility of fibre and degradability of protein. The results suggest that REE supplementation improved ruminal fibrolytic and proteolytic activities.  相似文献

Digesta viscosity, ileal transit time of digesta, apparent ileal protein digestibility and apparent metabolisable energy (AMEN) of diets based on wheat and dehulled barley (WB), oats (O) or a mixture of these (WBO) fed as such or with enzyme supplementation in three- and six-week old turkeys and broilers were investigated. In addition, differences between ileal digestibility and AMEN calculated by using titanium dioxide (TiO2), chromic oxide (Cr2O3) or acid insoluble ash (AIA) as indigestible markers were compared. Digesta viscosities were generally moderate reaching from 2.5 mPa · s to 7.3 mPa · s. The highest viscosities were observed in WBO diets. Viscosities were reduced with age in broilers, and were generally higher in turkeys than in broilers, especially at six weeks of age. Digesta retention time in ileum was elongated with age of the birds, pronouncedly in broilers. Oat inclusion to the diets decreased retention time especially in broilers at six weeks of age. Apparent ileal digestibility of protein ranged from 0.64–0.83, was lower at six weeks of age than at three weeks of age and generally lowest in O diets, especially in turkeys. AMEN of the diets ranged from 11.2–13.4 MJ/kg being higher at six weeks of age than at three weeks of age. AMEN of Diets O was the lowest but AMEN of WBO diets was higher than that of WB diets indicating a synergistic interaction of cereals, this trend being more pronounced in broilers. Enzyme supplementation decreased viscosity and improved AMEN in most diets, but did not affect ileal protein digestibility. Differences between ileal digestibility estimates obtained with TiO2 or Cr2O3 were small and mainly not significantly different from 0. AMEN estimates were generally higher when calculated with Cr2O3 than with TiO2. AIA gave remarkably lower AMEN values than TiO2 (the significant differences ranging from 0.24–0.94 MJ/kg). In addition, effects of markers on AMEN estimates interacted with age of the birds and dietary treatments.  相似文献

The enzymatic decolorization process of manganese peroxidase (MnP) is a complex system, which is greatly affected by the concentrations of H2O2, Mn2+, dye and enzyme. This work aimed to study these factors and investigate the combined interactions between them by applying response surface methodology (RSM) for decolorization of Congo red with MnP from Schizophyllum sp. F17, meanwhile conventional one-factor-at-a-time analysis was carried out. Through the one-factor-at-a-time analysis the optimized H2O2, Mn2+, Congo red and MnP extract was 0.2 mM, 0.5 mM, 50 mg/l and 0.8 ml, respectively, and the maximum decolorization attained under such conditions was 24.2%. Response surface analysis was conducted through Box–Behnken design and a second-order polynomial model (R2 = 0.8565) was generated to describe the combined effect and the interactions quantificationally. ANOVA analysis indicated that the interactions between H2O2 and MnP, between dye and MnP were significant; the optimum condition through RSM was found to be 0.35 mM H2O2, 0.5 mM Mn2+, 75 mg/l Congo red and 1.4 ml MnP extract, for maximum decolorization of 30.8%.  相似文献

This paper aims to investigate the effect of H2O2 and paraquat on the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), and membrane lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels in newly isolated Streptomyces sp. M3004. SOD activities of Streptomyces sp. M3004, grown in 10 mM and 30 mM H2O2, were significantly lower than the control cultures. On the other hand, as an antioxidant enzyme, CAT activity in both H2O2 treatment conditions increased significantly compared with the control. These activity values in 10 mM and 30 mM H2O2 treatment on the 48th hour of incubation were 3.8- and 6.6-fold higher than the control, respectively. SOD activity decreased significantly with respect to paraquat concentration, which was added at the start of the incubation. CAT activities increased significantly in 1.0 mM and 3.0 mM paraquat treatments compared to control. As an indicative marker of membrane damage, LPO levels of the novel isolate Streptomyces sp. M3004 treated with H2O2, and paraquat stress conditions were significantly higher than the control. Nevertheless, compared with the 30 mM H2O2 in both treatment conditions, LPO levels in 10 mM H2O2 were significantly higher. The decreases in SOD activities in paraquat and H2O2 treatment conditions resulted in the increases in the LPO levels although it increases in CAT activities.  相似文献

The common usage of protein-free diets to estimate unspecific AA losses has been criticised as unphysiological and incorrect. Therefore, in this study different diets were tested for the determination of endogenous losses (EL) of amino acids (AA) and nitrogen (N) assuming a complete absorption in the small intestine. Seven cannulated gilts received a protein-free diet (Diet PF) or diets with 3%, 6% or 10% crude protein (CP) from crystalline AA (Diets CA) or casein (Diets CAS) according to a 7 × 7 Latin square design. After 6 d adaptation to the diet, ileal digesta was collected for 24 h and thereafter analysed for AA, N and the digestibility markers Cr2O3 and acid insoluble ash (AIA). Generally, among all AA, the highest amounts of EL were found for Pro, Glu and Gly, and the smallest for Met. Different levels of CP in Diets CA and CAS had no effect on EL. Significant differences between treatments were observed only for the EL of Glu, Ile, Ser (higher in Diets CA and PF), Pro and Tyr (higher in Diet PF) (p < 0.05). There were no differences in determined EL using Cr2O3 or AIA as digestibility markers.  相似文献

There are limited data on the diet dry matter digestibility (DMD) of captive African elephants. Although the total fecal collection method is the standard for determining DMD, it is labor‐intensive, time‐consuming, and expensive. The acid‐insoluble ash (AIA) marker technique has been used successfully to determine DMD in ruminants and monogastrics. The objective of this study was to assess how accurately the AIA marker technique could estimate the DMD of captive African elephants (Loxodonta africana). Three mature male African elephants at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida were used in this study. The animals were offered a Bermuda grass hay‐based ration, and the total dry matter intake (DMI) and total fecal output were measured daily over a 7‐day period to determine the total collection DMD. The feed ingredients and fecal samples were also analyzed for AIA. Although there were differences (P<0.05) in total DMI and total fecal outputs, the DMD values did not (P>0.05) differ (35.1±0.72 vs. 37.1±0.72 for total collection and AIA, respectively). There was a linear (y=0.9461x; R2=0.74) relationship between the total collection and AIA marker technique DMD values. Due to its wide industrial use, chromium (Cr) is considered a serious environmental pollutant of aquatic bodies. In order to investigate the ecophysiological responses of water hyacinth [Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms] to Cr treatment, plants were exposed to 1 and 10 mM Cr2O3 (Cr3+) and K2Cr2O7 (Cr6+) concentrations for two or 4 days in a hydroponic system. Plants exposed to the higher concentration of Cr6+ for 4 days did not survive, whereas a 2 days treatment with 1 mM Cr3+ apparently stimulated growth. Analysis of Cr uptake indicated that most of the Cr accumulated in the roots, but some was also translocated and accumulated in the leaves. However, in plants exposed to Cr6+ (1 mM), a higher translocation of Cr from roots to shoots was observed. It is possible that the conversion from Cr6+ to Cr3+, which immobilizes Cr in roots, was not total due to the presence of Cr6+, causing deleterious effects on gas exchange, chlorophyll a fluorescence and photosynthetic pigment contents. Chlorophyll a was more sensitive to Cr than chlorophyll b. Cr3+ was shown to be less toxic than Cr6+ and, in some cases even increased photosynthesis and chlorophyll content. This result indicated that the Fv/F0 ratio was more effective than the Fv/Fm ratio in monitoring the development of stress by Cr6+. There was a linear relationship between qP and Fv/Fm. No statistical differences were observed in NPQ and chlorophyll a/b ratio, but there was a tendency to decrease these values with Cr exposure. This suggests that there were alterations in thylakoid stacking, which might explain the data obtained for gas exchanges and other chlorophyll a fluorescence parameters.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding schedule on dry matter (DM), gross energy (GE), crude protein (CP), and amino acid (AA) digestibility by growing pigs. Six growing castrates (initial body weight: 40.5 ± 2.25 kg) were equipped with a T-cannula in the distal ileum and allotted to a repeated 3 × 3 Latin square design with three animals and three periods in each square. A maize–soybean meal based diet (181 g CP/kg) was formulated and fed to the pigs in three different feeding schedules; i.e., one meal per day, two meals per day, or free access to feed. Pigs fed one or two meals per day were allotted a daily amount of feed equivalent to three times the maintenance energy requirement. Fecal and ileal samples were collected from all pigs in each period. The coefficients of ileal apparent digestibility (CIAD) for DM, GE, CP, and AA were calculated as were the coefficients of total tract apparent digestibility (CTTAD) of DM and GE. Results of the experiment showed that there were no differences in the CIAD for DM, GE, or for any of the AA among the three feeding schedules. In contrast, pigs given free access to the diet had lower (P<0.002) CTTAD for DM and GE compared with pigs fed a restricted amount of feed either once or twice daily. Therefore, the concentration of digestible energy in the diet was lower if calculated from pigs given free access to the diet compared with pigs fed the diet once or twice daily (14.38 MJ/kg versus 14.83 MJ/kg and 15.13 MJ/kg). It is concluded that the feeding schedule does not influence the CIAD for DM, GE, CP, or AA by pigs. Therefore, any of the three feeding schedules that were used in the current experiment may be used in experiments aimed at measuring CIAD in pigs. However, if the CTTAD of DM and GE are measured, it is recommended that pigs are given free access to feed.  相似文献

Phenolic content and antioxidant potential of lentil sprouts may be enhanced by treatment of seedlings in abiotic stress conditions without any negative influence on nutritional quality.The health-relevant and nutritional quality of sprouts was improved by elicitation of 2-day-old sprouts with oxidative, osmotic, ion-osmotic and temperature stresses. Among the sprouts studied, those obtained by elicitation with osmotic (600 mM mannitol) and ion-osmotic (300 mM NaCl) shocks had the highest total phenolic content levels: 6.52 and 6.56 mg/g flour, respectively. Oxidative stress significantly enhanced the levels of (+)-catechin and p-coumaric acid. A marked elevation of the chlorogenic and gallic acid contents was also determined for sprouts induced at 4 °C and 40 °C. The elevated phenolic content was translated into the antioxidant potential of sprouts, especially the ability to reduce lipid oxidation. A marked elevation of this ability was determined for seedlings treated with 20 mM, 200 mM H2O2 (oxidative stress) and 600 mM mannitol (osmotic stress); about a 12-fold, 8-fold and 9.5-fold increase in respect to control sprouts. The highest ability to quench free radicals was observed in sprouts induced by osmotic stress (IC50- 4.91 and 5.12 mg/ml for 200 mM and 600 mM mannitol, respectively). The highest total antioxidant activity indexes were determined for sprouts elicited with 20 mM H2O2 and 600 mM mannitol: 4.0 and 3.4, respectively. All studied growth conditions, except induction at 40 °C, caused a significant elevation of resistant starch levels which was also affected in a subsequent reduction of starch digestibility.Improvement of sprout quality by elicitation with abiotic stresses is a cheap and easy biotechnology and it seems to be an alternative to conventional techniques applied to improve the health promoting phytochemical levels and bioactivity of low-processed food.  相似文献

The photoreaction and adsorption properties on surfaces, thermal decomposition, chemical transformation, and other properties of the formamide molecule are widely used to understand the origins of the formation of biological molecules (nucleosides, amino acids, DNA, monolayers, etc.) needed for life. The titanium oxide (TiO2) surface can act both as a template on which the accumulation of adsorbed molecules like formamide occurs through the concentration effect, and as a catalytic material that lowers the activation energy needed for the formation of intermediate products. In this paper, a formamide–water solution interacting with TiO2 (anatase) surface is simulated using the molecular dynamics method. The structural, diffusion and density properties of formamide–water mixture on TiO2 are established for a wide temperature range from T = 250 K up to T = 400 K.  相似文献

A series of five factorial experiments examined the effects of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and calcium oxide (CaO) alone or together with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2, 27.5% w/w) at pH of about 11.5 (AHP) on in vitro (IVDMD) and in sacco (ISDMD) dry matter digestibility of wheat straw. The effects of different temperatures (20°C, 40°C and 60°C), various times (2, 3, 4, 6 and 27 h), pre-soaking, filtration and washing on the efficacy of the above levels of chemicals in improving IVDMD and ISDMD were tested in separate experiments. AHP improved IVDMD (P<0.001) of straws when pH was regulated to around 11.5 using NaOH. In contrast, AHP was ineffective or depressive (P<0.001) when CaO was used to regulate pH to around 11.5. However, CaO alone increased IVDMD to a similar extent as did NaOH. Washing, filtration and temperature were ineffective in improving the IVDMD of CaO-treated straw. AHP was most effective when 130 g H2O2 was applied to each kg DM of straw after soaking it with 3 l solution containing 80 g NaOH for a period of 27 h. The nutritional value of low quality forages can be enhanced for ruminants by using alkalis provided conditions as described above are maintained during alkali treatments.  相似文献

Two new one-dimensional Fe(II)-bis-Schiff base complexes, [Fe(L1)(pyz)] · CH2Cl2 (1) and [Fe(L2)(pyz)] · 2CH2Cl2 (2) (H2L1 = bis(O-vanillin)-O-phenylenediimine, H2L2 = bis(O-vanillin)-2,3-naphthalenediimine, pyz = pyrazine) are reported with their crystal structures and magnetic property. Compound 1 shows a two-step SCO behavior while 2 shows HS at all the temperature range measured. Although the extension of aromatic moiety from benzene (L1) to naphthalene (L2) was introduced for the purpose of strengthening the cooperativity, it leads to the absence of SCO, due to the unanticipated π–π interaction, which leads to the longer Fe–N bond lengths and a weak ligand field around Fe(II) ion.  相似文献
