AIMS: To determine whether diurnal and seasonal variations in campylobacters in surface waters result from the effects of temperature and u.v. radiation, and whether natural populations of Campylobacter lari and urease-positive thermophilic campylobacters (UPTC) from birds survive better in surface waters than Camp. jejuni from sewage. METHODS AND RESULTS: Natural populations of Camp. lari and UPTC in sea water, and Camp. jejuni in river water, were exposed to artificial sunlight (equivalent to a sunny day in June). Both populations became non-culturable within 30 min, with T90s of 15 min and 25 min, respectively. Cultures of Camp. jejuni became non-culturable within 40 min and those of Camp. coli, Camp. lari and UPTC, within 60 min. In darkness, survival was temperature-dependent. Natural populations took 12 h at 37 degrees C and 5 days at 4 degrees C to become non-culturable in sea water, and slightly less in river water. Cultures of Camp. lari and UPTCs survived for significantly longer than Camp. jejuni and Camp. coli. Loss of culturability for all isolates was most rapid at 37 degrees C and slowest at 4 degrees C. Newly isolated strains from sea water and river water behaved in an almost identical manner to NCTC strains. CONCLUSION: Campylobacter lari and UPTCs survive for longer in surface waters than Camp. jejuni and Camp. coli, particularly in the dark. Low Campylobacter numbers in coastal waters in the summer, especially in the afternoon, are due to the combined effects of higher temperatures and higher levels of u.v. radiation. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Campylobacter lari and UPTCs from birds predominate in bathing waters in Morecambe Bay because they are better able to survive; they also originate from closer to the shore than Camp. jejuni and Camp. coli in sewage effluent, which survive poorly and die before the incoming tide reaches the shore. The predominance of Camp. jejuni in river water results from its dominance of the inputs and not from its ability to survive.  相似文献

Batch microcosms containing various water types (de-ionized and river water with or without sediment), incubated at a range of temperatures (5-37 degrees C), were used to facilitate a comparative evaluation of the significance of such variables and their interactions upon the collective and individual survival of four species of thermophilic Campylobacter. All variables significantly influenced (P < = 0.031) population decay rates. Minimal decay for the group was identified at low temperatures (5 degrees C) in river water, i.e. nutrient-containing microcosms. Collective decay rates within river water microcosms were significantly decreased (P = 0.03) from those observed in de-ionized water, particularly at environmental temperatures (5 and 15 degrees C). However, the increased nutrient levels observed in sediment-containing microcosms did not significantly (P = 0.41) reduce population decay rates. Overall, Camp. jejuni populations demonstrated the most resilience to the environmental stressors evaluated, with the exception of 15 degrees C where Camp. lari was the most persistent. Campylobacter coli and Camp. upsaliensis demonstrated comparable survival characteristics but were less resilient than Camp. jejuni and Camp. lari. These observations identify the suitability of water systems as a reservoir and medium for Campylobacter infection, and potentially identifies Camp. jejuni and Camp. lari as the main protagonists of water-mediated campylobacteriosis.  相似文献

AIMS: The differences between phenotyping and genotyping (polymerase chain reaction- restriction fragment length polymorphism) of Campylobacter jejuni, Campylobacter coli, Campylobacter lari and Campylobacter upsaliensis were assessed. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 51, 63 and 88 strains from dogs, pigs and humans, respectively, were examined. The strains were first typed by biochemical methods, then by PCR-RFLP using AluI and Tsp509I. None of the strains were typed as Camp. lari by the PCR-RFLP. The biggest differences were found in the identification of Camp. jejuni and Camp. coli. The main discrepancies were caused with the hippurate hydrolysis test and sensitivity to cephalothin and nalidixic acid. Strains which were identified biochemically as Camp. coli and by digestion with AluI as Camp. jejuni (eight strains) were tested for the presence of the hippuricase gene. CONCLUSION: The PCR typing results showed the presence of the hippuricase gene as unique to Camp. jejuni. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: A reliable identification of Campylobacter spp. should be supplemented with a molecular method.  相似文献

AIM: To determine the effect of two physiologically important temperatures on growth and chemotaxis in Campylobacter jejuni. METHODS AND RESULTS: Growth curves of Camp. jejuni were compared at 37 degrees C and 42 degrees C. Chemotaxis was compared at 37 degrees C and 42 degrees C by the disc and capillary assays. Student's t-test was applied to the results of the capillary assay to assess the significance in the difference between chemotaxis at the two temperatures. Both, the growth rate and chemotactic ability of the isolate, were found to be greater at 37 degrees C. CONCLUSIONS: Quorum sensing (related to population density), a regulation mechanism of virulence in micro-organisms, has been reported in Campylobacter. Chemotaxis is also a known virulence factor of Campylobacter. Both, growth (in terms of population density) and chemotaxis, being greater at 37 degrees C than at 42 degrees C, suggests that the physiological temperature of humans (37 degrees C) might be more favourable for the expression of virulence in Campylobacter than that of birds (42 degrees C). SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: It is as yet not known why Campylobacter causes disease in humans but is avirulent in birds. This study suggests that the human body temperature is optimum for growth and chemotaxis in Campylobacter. There is scope for the study of temperature regulation of other virulence determinants of Campylobacter.  相似文献

AIM: Enteropathogenic Campylobacter jejuni, Camp. coli and Camp. lari are currently the most common cause of acute infectious diarrhoeal illness in the UK. Many domestic animals, including pigs, act as natural reservoirs for these organisms and infection may occur through the ingestion of contaminated foodstuffs. The safety of locally produced porcine liver was assessed in relation to the heat susceptibility of Campylobacter spp. present in eviscerated product. METHODS AND RESULTS: Heat susceptibility (D10) studies were performed on a wild-type strain of Camp. coli [NI39] isolated from porcine liver under standardized conditions. In addition, the effect of culture age and heating menstruum was determined. Thermal stress studies in phosphate-buffered saline showed Camp. coli NI39 to be heat sensitive (D10 = 8.-0, 30.8, 15.6, 10.3 s at 55.4, 57.4, 59.7, 61.2 degrees C, respectively; z = 6.10 degrees C). However, non-logarithmic biphasic survivor curves were observed at higher temperatures ( > 56 degrees C), indicating the presence of a heat-resistant subpopulation (10(4)-10(5) cfu) which was not demonstrated when examining either Salmonella typhimurium or Listeria monocytogenes. CONCLUSIONS: The use of D10 values may be limited. Therefore, porcine liver, under processing, must be treated as a potential source of Campylobacter spp., and clearly defined F-values should be quantified through the use of empirically 'spiked' samples to ensure the eradication of campylobacters from the product, for each individual process being evaluated. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: It is important to define safe processing parameters in the manufacture of products which receive mild thermal processes in order to eliminate the risk of disease to man.  相似文献

AIMS: This study aimed to identify a simple, inexpensive preservation technique that will allow a quick and reliable recovery of Campylobacter jejuni following long-term periods of preservation. METHODS AND RESULTS: Preservation techniques include (i) Cryobank microbial preservation system using hypertonic 'cryopreservative solution' and glass beads, (ii) Cryobank microbial preservation system using defibrinated lysed horse blood and glass beads, (iii) FBP medium, (iv) 15% glycerol/85% nutrient broth no. 2 culture, and (v) 50% glycerol/50% nutrient broth no. 2 culture. Each preservation technique was evaluated over a 1-year period at conventional freezing temperatures of -20 degrees C and -85 degrees C. Replacement of 'cryopreservative fluid' in commercially prepared vials of glass beads with lysed horse blood increased the duration of preservation of Camp. jejuni by up to 6 months. CONCLUSIONS: FBP medium proved the most successful preservation technique with 100 and 80% recovery after 1 year at -85 degrees C and -20 degrees C, respectively. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: This study demonstrated a simple inexpensive preservation method for long-term storage of Camp. jejuni.  相似文献

AIMS: The antibiotic susceptibility of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli isolates from broiler chickens were determined in order to evaluate the level of antibiotic resistance of Campylobacter species in the Irish poultry industry. METHODS AND RESULTS: Seventy-eight Camp. jejuni and 22 Camp. coli strains were examined for susceptibility to eight antibiotics using the disc diffusion assay. The highest level of resistance of the Camp. jejuni isolates was recorded to ampicillin (35.9%), followed by 20.5% to tetracycline, 20.5% to naladixic acid, 17.9% to ciprofloxacin, 10.2% to erythromycin, 2.5% to streptomycin and 1.2% to kanamycin. Multidrug resistance to two or more antibiotics was seen for 30.7% of Camp. jejuni strains. Resistance of the Camp. coli isolates was shown to ampicillin (9%) and tetracycline (18.2%). CONCLUSIONS: The majority of Camp. jejuni strains were susceptible to antibiotics commonly used for human therapy. Camp. coli strains showed very low resistance levels and were susceptible to six of the eight antimicrobial agents studied. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Levels of Camp. jejuni and Camp. coli antimicrobial resistance in Irish poultry production was assessed to determine the current situation in Ireland. The prevalence of antibiotic resistance of Campylobacter strains isolated from broiler chickens was low.  相似文献

AIMS: The purpose of this study was to determine the susceptibility of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli isolates to antimicrobial agents and to investigate the presence of plasmid DNA. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 15 clinical isolates from children faeces, and 29 animal isolates of Campylobacter jejuni (n=22) and Campylobacter coli (n=22) were tested for susceptibility to 9 antimicrobial agents using a disc diffusion method, and screened for the presence of plasmid DNA by agarose gel electrophoresis. Of the 44 isolates, 56.8% were resistant to sulphonamide, 25% to norfloxacin, 18.2% to erythromicin, ciprofloxacin and ampicillin, and 13.6% to tetracycline. All isolates were susceptible to gentamicin, chloramphenicol and cefotaxime. Plasmids were detected in one Camp. jejuni (4.54%) strain isolated from sheep and in six (27.27%) Camp. coli strains isolated from rhesus monkey(3), swine(2), and poultry(1) with sizes ranging from 3.4 to 50 kb. CONCLUSIONS: The majority of the human isolates were susceptible to antibiotics commonly used for the treatment of campylobacteriosis. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The origin and spread of Campylobacter resistance to antibiotics are discussed, with particular respect to the current situation in Brazil.  相似文献

AIMS: The objectives of this study were to determine the presence of thermophilic Campylobacter spp. in free range domestic geese, and to characterize isolated strains using phenotyping criteria and SDS-PAGE of whole-cell proteins. METHODS AND RESULTS: Forty cloacal swabs from two different flocks of domestic geese were examined. All Camp. jejuni strains isolated from geese were biotyped using the Lior biotyping scheme. Twelve Camp. jejuni isolates were also tested for their susceptibility to 17 different antibacterial agents by a disc diffusion METHOD: Fourteen of the isolates were also subjected to SDS-PAGE. All of the geese examined were found to harbour Camp. jejuni. Six geese carried more than one species of Campylobacter. All strains examined were susceptible to various antibiotics but resistant to penicillin G and cephalothin. Eleven strains (92%) were resistant to sodium cefuroxime, and eight (67%) were resistant to cloxacillin, ampicillin and colistin sulphate. Three strains (25%) were resistant to tetracycline, and one strain was resistant to sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim and kanamycin. Nine strains were subtyped as Camp. jejuni subsp. jejuni biotype II and the remaining ones as biotype I. There were 96% and 100% similarities between all the strains examined by SDS-PAGE. CONCLUSION: This study showed that Camp. jejuni were common in the intestinal tract of domestic geese. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Geese should be considered as potential reservoirs for human and animal campylobacteriosis. The antibiotic resistance data from this study also showed that fluoroquinolone resistance, which appears to be a problem in poultry isolates in some countries, is not yet a problem in these geese.  相似文献

AIMS: To validate a phenotypic Campylobacter species identification method employed to identify campylobacters in broilers by comparison with campylobacterial species identification using various species-specific PCR analyses. METHODS AND RESULTS: From a collection of 2733 phenotypically identified campylobacterial cultures, 108 Campylobacter jejuni cultures and 351 campylobacterial cultures other than Camp. jejuni were subjected to various species-specific PCR assays. On the basis of the genotypic tests, it was demonstrated that Camp. jejuni and Camp. coli constituted approx. 99% of all cultures, while other species identified were Helicobacter pullorum, Camp. lari and Camp. upsaliensis. However, 29% of the 309 Camp. coli cultures identified by phenotypic tests were hippurate-variable or negative Camp. jejuni cultures, whereas some Camp. lari cultures and unspeciated campylobacter cultures belonged to H. pullorum. It was also notable that 2-6% of the cultures were, in fact, mixed cultures. CONCLUSIONS: The phenotypic identification scheme employed failed to appropriately differentiate Campylobacter species and particularly to identify the closely related species, H. pullorum. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Future phenotypic test schemes should be designed to allow a more accurate differentiation of Campylobacter and related species. Preferably, the phenotypic tests should be supplemented with a genotypic strategy to disclose the true campylobacterial species diversity in broilers.  相似文献

AIMS: To evaluate the survival of Campylobacter jejuni relative to that of Escherichia coli in groundwater microcosms varying in nutrient composition. METHODS AND RESULTS: Studies were conducted in groundwater and deionized water incubated for up to 470 days at 4 degrees C. Samples were taken for culturable and total cell counts, nutrient and molecular analysis. Die-off in groundwater microcosms was between 2.5 and 13 times faster for C. jejuni than for E. coli. Campylobacter jejuni had the lowest decay rate and longest culturability in microcosms with higher dissolved organic carbon (4 mg l(-1)). Escherichia coli survival was the greatest when the total dissolved nitrogen (12.0 mg l(-1)) was high. The transition of C. jejuni to the coccoid stage was independent of culturability. CONCLUSION: The differences in the duration of survival and response to water nutrient composition between the two organisms suggest that E. coli may be present in the waters much longer and respond to water composition much differently than C. jejuni. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The data from these studies would aid in the evaluation of the utility of E. coli as an indicator of C. jejuni. This study also provided new information about the effect of nutrient composition on C. jejuni viability.  相似文献

AIMS: The aim of the study was to measure the survival of 19 Campylobacter jejuni strains of different origins, including two reference strains, four poultry-derived isolates, nine human isolates and four water isolates, in sterilized drinking water. METHODS AND RESULTS: Pure cultures of 19 C. jejuni strains were inoculated in sterile drinking water and incubated at 4 degrees C for 64 days. Survival was determined by culturability on both selective (Karmali agar) and non-selective [Columbia blood agar (CBA)] media. Culturability was shown to be strain and origin-dependent. Campylobacter jejuni showed prolonged survival on a non-selective than on a selective medium. CONCLUSIONS: The origin of the strain is a determining factor for the survival of C. jejuni in drinking water at 4 degrees C. Poultry isolates showed a prolonged survival, which could be an indication that these strains could play an important role in the transmission of campylobacteriosis through water. In addition, culture conditions are an important factor for evaluating the survival of C. jejuni in drinking water at 4 degrees C. The non-selective agar (CBA) allowed growth of C. jejuni over a longer period of time than the selective agar (Karmali). Furthermore, an enrichment broth (Bolton) allowed the recovery of all 19 C. jejuni strains during the 64 days of incubation at 4 degrees C. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: This study highlighted differences in culturability depending on culture conditions and on strain origin.  相似文献

A pollution event which occurred at a spring in the Arnside area of Cumbria provided an opportunity to investigate whether Campylobacter jejuni could be detected in groundwater. Hydrological evidence suggested that the source of contamination was a dairy farm situated within the hydrological catchment of the polluted spring. The microbiological quality of the polluted spring was monitored during intervals over the following 12 months and compared with others in the area. Campylobacter jejuni was isolated by filter enrichment of 500 ml and 100 ml filtered volumes of groundwater. It was not isolated in the absence of faecal indicator species. Some strains of Camp. jejuni from water had identical biotypes to strains isolated from the dairy herd. This paper reports the first isolation of Camp. jejuni from groundwater using cultural methods and supports the theory that groundwater may be a vehicle for Campylobacter transmission.  相似文献

AIM: The primary aim of this study was to determine the incidence of Campylobacter spp. on turkey, presented for processing at participating production plants located in the midwest region of the United States. METHODS AND RESULTS: The two participating plants were visited on a monthly basis for a period of 1 year. Sampling of carcasses was carried out using a surface swab technique. Swabs were obtained from carcasses at two points on the production line - prechill and postchill. In addition, samples of chill water were also obtained for examination. Isolation and detection of Campylobacter was carried out using enrichment in Preston broth with recovery of the organism on blood free Campylobacter selective agar (CCDA). Isolates recovered were screened and identified using the API Campy identification system. The study found that 34.9% of all samples tested were positive for Campylobacter spp. The overall, contamination rates observed for both plants were relatively similar (39.2% for plant A and 30.6% for plant B). Differences were observed in the incidence of Campylobacter spp. on prechill vs postchill carcasses (i.e. 40.8% prechill vs 37.6% postchill for plant A and 41.8% prechill vs 19.8% postchill for plant B). Campylobacter species most often isolated included Camp. jejuni and Camp. coli. Other species recovered were Camp. fetus fetus, Camp. upsaliensis and Camp. lari. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of Campylobacter spp. on processed poultry was relatively common. Factors such as the processing plant examined, season and the farms presenting birds for processing influenced the incidence of the pathogen. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Differences were observed in the prevalence of Campylobacter spp. isolated from the two plants examined. The study suggests a seasonal prevalence of Campylobacter in the cooler months with processing conditions also influencing the overall occurrence of the organism. The incidence, isolation and detection of Campylobacter spp. from processed poultry are discussed.  相似文献

M. UYTTENDAELE, R. SCHUKKINK, B. VAN GEMEN AND J. DEBEVERE. 1994. NASBAR, an isothermal amplification technique for nucleic acids, was evaluated for the specific identification of Campylobacter jejuni, Camp. coli and Camp. lari. A set of primers and a probe were chosen from the 16S rRNA sequence of Campylobacter. The probe was hybridized in solution with the amplified nucleic acids of 12 Campylobacter species and nine other Gram-negative bacteria. The probe was shown to hybridize specifically to the amplified single-stranded RNA of Camp. jejuni, Camp. coli and Camp. lari in an enzyme-linked gel assay (ELGA). In a Camp. jejuni model system the combination of NASBAR and ELGA was able to detect ca 1000 rRNA molecules. The presence of an excess of Gram-negative bacteria did not influence the sensitivity of detection. A number of 6 cfu of Camp. jejuni , present in a total count of 4 times 106 cfu of Gram-negative bacteria, resulted in a positive hybridization signal.  相似文献

AIMS: To investigate the prevalence of quinolone resistance among Campylobacter jejuni and Camp. coli isolates from Danish poultry at the farm level, as well as for the whole country. METHODS AND RESULTS: Data and isolates were collected from a national surveillance of Campylobacter in poultry. Quinolone resistance was investigated by determination of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) to nalidixic acid and enrofloxacin. Among Camp. jejuni and Camp. coli combined, 7.5% were resistant to nalidixic acid. Quinolone resistance varied considerably from farm to farm, with 0% on some farms and almost 100% on others, but the resistance was evenly distributed geographically. With respect to isolates from farms where resistance was detected, quinolone resistance was higher among Camp. coli (28.7%) than among Camp. jejuni (11.3%). PFGE typing of quinolone-resistant and quinolone-susceptible isolates from four farms indicated that certain resistant isolates belonged to specific clones that were able to persist on the farms during several rotations, even in the absence of selective pressure. Some clones were present and repeatedly isolated in both a quinolone-susceptible and quinolone-resistant variant. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, quinolone resistance among Campylobacter isolates from Danish broilers was 7.5% in 1998 and 1999; it was higher among Camp. coli than Camp. jejuni. Genetic diversity among resistant isolates was lower than among susceptible isolates, and certain clones existed in both a resistant and a susceptible variant. Some resistant clones appeared to persist on the farms and were repeatedly isolated from poultry flocks. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The study is important for the understanding of persistence and dynamics of Campylobacter in broiler houses. It also highlights the extent, farm-to-farm variation and persistence of quinolone-resistant Campylobacter in broiler houses.  相似文献

AIMS: To use a published polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method for the detection and identification of thermotolerant Campylobacter species (Camp. jejuni, Camp. coli and Camp. lari) in tandem with a Most Probable Number (MPN) technique to enumerate these species in water samples. METHODS AND RESULTS: An initial study of 42 river water samples compared the use of conventional culture and PCR methods for the detection of Campylobacter in MPN enrichment tubes. It was found that all samples positive by culture were also positive by PCR. Thirty-seven percent more MPN tubes were positive by PCR compared with culture. The MPN/PCR technique was subsequently applied to 96 additional samples collected from rivers, drinking, roof and shallow ground water. Campylobacter was especially prevalent in river water (60% positive) and shallow ground water (75% positive) samples. Drinking water (29.2% positive) and roof water (37.5% positive) also contained Campylobacter, but the numbers detected were very low (maximum 0.3 and 0.56 MPN 100 ml-1, respectively). CONCLUSION: River waters contained Campylobacter at higher levels than any other water type and in a high percentage of the samples. Although Campylobacter was present in treated drinking water, the levels detected were low. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: These results suggest that water may act as a significant transmission route for human campylobacteriosis.  相似文献

AIM: The study was undertaken to determine the inactivation rate of Campylobacter jejuni in New Zealand soils. METHODS AND RESULTS: Farm dairy effluent (FDE) inoculated at c. 10(5) ml(-1) with C. jejuni was applied to intact soil cores at a rate of 2 l m(-2). Four soils were used: Hamilton (granular); Taupo (pumice); Horotiu and Waihou (allophanic). After FDE application cores were incubated at 10 degrees C for up to 32 days. For all four soils all the FDE remained within the cores and at least 99% of C. jejuni were retained in the top 5 cm. Campylobacter jejuni had declined to the limit of detection (two C. jejuni 100 g(-1)) by 25 days in Hamilton and Taupo soils and by 32 days in Waihou soil. In contrast, in Horotiu soil the decline was only three orders of magnitude after 32 days. Simulated heavy rainfall was applied 4 and 11 days after FDE application and only about 1% of the applied C. jejuni were recovered in leachates. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that at least 99% of applied C. jejuni were retained in the top 5 cm of four soils where they survived for at least 25 days at 10 degrees C. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Soil retention of C. jejuni is efficient at FDE application rates that prevent drainage losses. The low infectious dose of C. jejuni and its ability to survive up to 25 days have implications for stock management on dairy farms.  相似文献

Inactivation of Campylobacter jejuni by high hydrostatic pressure   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
AIMS: To investigate the response of Campylobacter jejuni ATCC 35919 and 35921 to high pressure processing (HPP) while suspended in microbiological media and various food systems. METHODS AND RESULTS: Campylobacter jejuni 35919 and 35921 were subjected to 10-min pressure treatments between 100 and 400 MPa at 25 degrees C suspended in Bolton broth, phosphate buffer (0.2 m, pH 7.3), ultra-high temperature (UHT) whole milk, UHT skim milk, soya milk and chicken pureé. The survivability of C. jejuni was further investigated by inoculated pack studies. HPP at 300-325 MPa for 10 min at 25 degrees C was sufficient to reduce viable numbers of both strains to below detectable levels when cells were pressurized in Bolton broth or phosphate buffer. All food products examined offered a protective effect in that an additional 50-75 MPa was required to achieve similar levels of inactivation when compared with broth and buffer. When 40 Campylobacter jejuni isolates from human clinical cases, raw chicken and water were tested, 29 (72·5%) could be adapted to grow on nutrient agar under aerobic conditions. Once adapted, these isolates could grow on repeated aerobic subculture. An aerobically-grown Camp. jejuni isolate survived almost as well as the same isolate grown microaerophilically in sterile chicken mince at 5 °C, and survival of a cocktail of Camp. jejuni isolates under both atmospheres was comparable at 25 °C. However, at 37 °C, the decline in numbers of the aerobically-grown cells was greater. Survival of cells on chicken nuggets was poorer than in chicken mince. In filter-sterilized stream water incubated aerobically at 5 °C, survival of inocula grown under different atmospheres was again similar, but slightly better with the microaerophilically-grown cells. Adaptation to aerobic growth was not found to enhance survival under aerobic conditions.  相似文献
