Effects of climatic factors on plant distribution in the Chubu District, central Japan, were examined with direct gradient analysis. The distribution of many species was controlled not only by temperature but also by snowfall.Sasa kurilensis, Heloniopsis orientalis andTripterospermum japonicum preferred snow regardless of the thermal conditions. The snow seemed to exert more influence on endemics than on the more widespread plants, on evergreen plants more than on deciduous plants, and on trees or shrubs more than on herbs or climbing plants. Thus, the snow factor contributes to the high endemic ratio of central Japan. Among the snow-tolerant evergreen shrubs there were many neo-endemics derived from snow-intolerant parent populations of the species which have restricted distributions in the laurel forests. They could occupy habitats in the summergreen forests, where their life form can withstand heavy snowfall. Because of the heavy snowfall on the Sea of Japan side of central Japan in the postglacial period, evergreen coniferous trees have lost many of their previous habitats since most of them are intolerant of heavy snowfall.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to jointly study non-mycorrhizal (dark septate fungi) and mycorrhizal (arbuscular mycorrhizae) colonization along a large range of heavy metal pollution in soil in order to determine the effective contribution of each type of endophytes in relation to heavy metal uptake and tolerance. Hence, eight sites were chosen in the mining area of northern France with respect both to a large range of heavy metal contamination (Cd, Pb, Zn) and monospecific colonization by Arrhenatherum elatius. Root colonization with both arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) and dark septate fungi (DSF) as well as spore density in rhizospheric soil were estimated in relation to soil characteristics. Mycorrhizal infestation (hyphae, arbuscules and vesicles) was adversely affected by soil pollution almost to exclusion. The intensity of colonization with DSF was very low in presence of AM in non-contaminated soils but higher in polluted soils. The effect of the fungal colonization on the heavy metal tolerance of Arrhenatherum elatius is discussed.  相似文献

The species composition, abundance and plant infestation of stem borers attacking maize and millet were investigated in farmers' fields during the cropping season of 2010 and 2011 in Maiduguri, Nigeria. Stem borers were collected via destructive sampling. In total, three stem borer species (Busseola fusca, Sesamia calamistis and Coniesta ignefusalis) were found, of which S. calamistis (64%) and C. ignefusalis (72%), respectively, were predominant on maize and millet. Across both years, whereas mean plant infestation ranged from 4.8% on millet to 20.8% on maize, mean stem borer abundance ranged from 1.6 individuals on millet to 13.8 individuals on maize. Mean total plant infestation and stem borer abundance varied with different years and both were significantly higher during the 2010 than 2011 cropping season. In spite of the generally low stem borer abundance per farmers' field, plant infestation particularly on maize plants seems to be moderate during different years.  相似文献

Delphinium nelsonii is an early-blooming herbaceous perennial of montane western North America, which we studied in dry subalpine meadows in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We examined the effects of variation in annual snowfall between 1973 and 1989 on the timing and abundance of flowering. During years of lower snow accumulation, D. nelsonii plants experienced colder temperatures between the period of snowmelt and flowering. Also, flowering was delayed, floral production was lower, and flowering curves were more negatively skewed; damage during floral development probably occurred in years of low snowfall. If climate change results in decreased mean annual snowfall for the Rocky Mountains, then the seed production of D. nelsonii will probably be adversely affected. Decreased snowfall may also indirectly lower the seed production of later-blooming species by decreasing populations of bumblebees and hummingbirds that forage on D. nelsonii flowers. Decreased snowfall has the potential to reduce the number and relative proportions of species in the herbaceous flora in our study area.  相似文献

1 The recent increase in planting of selected willow clones as energy crops for biomass production has resulted in a need to understand the relationship between commonly grown, clonally propagated genotypes and their pests. 2 For the first time, we present a study of the interactions of six willow clones and a previously unconsidered pest, the giant willow aphid Tuberolachnus salignus. 3 Tuberolachnus salignus alatae displayed no preference between the clones, but there was genetic variation in resistance between the clones; Q83 was the most resistant and led to the lowest reproductive performance in the aphid 4 Maternal effects buffered changes in aphid performance. On four tested willow clones fecundity of first generation aphids on the new host clone was intermediate to that of the second generation and that of the clone used to maintain the aphids in culture. 5 In the field, patterns of aphid infestation were highly variable between years, with the duration of attack being up to four times longer in 1999. In both years there was a significant effect of willow clone on the intensity of infestation. However, whereas Orm had the lowest intensity of infestation in the first year, Dasyclados supported a lower population level than other monitored clones in the second year.  相似文献

In the years 2011–2014, a series of surveys were conducted to record infestation and search natural fungal pathogens of Trianthema portulacastrum in various states of India. Among ten different agricultural important crops, heavy infestation and percentage of occurrence were observed. Gibbago trianthema, phaeodictyconidial genus, causing leaf spot disease was found on horse purslane at different districts of Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh from infected leaves and stems. Identification was confirmed on the basis of ITS rDNA sequence analysis by Macrogen Inc., Advancing through Genomics, Korea, and from CABI International Mycological Institute, England (IMI Number 502781, 502782). Sequence has been submitted to National Centre for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) with GenBank accession number KJ825852. By in vitro inoculation on Trianthema leaves, the pathogen showed similar symptoms as occurred in nature and proved Koch’s postulates. Various stages of conidia development were observed which proved the blastic-type ontogeny and porogenous development of conidiophore cell.  相似文献

Hyperinfection by the gill-infesting monogeneanAllobivagina sp. (Microcotylea) caused mass mortalities in juveniles ofSiganus luridus cultured in seawater earthen ponds and holding tanks in Eilat (Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea). Other species ofSiganus and adults ofS. luridus cultured in the same systems acquired a low intensity of infestation. Most hyperinfected fish were emaciated and anaemic with hematocrit values below 10 %. Skin and mouth infestations by the monogeneanBenedenia monticelli (Capsaloidea) caused mass mortalities in grey mullets (Mugilidae). These mortalities occurred in large individuals in wild populations ofLiza carinata from lagoonal habitats in the Gulf of Suez and in most species of grey mullets cultured in Eilat. The intensity of infestation correlated positively with severity of infestation, and the common sites of infestation corresponded with areas of severe pathological alterations. Spontaneous recovery followed the climax of an epizootic, both for infestedS. luridus and infested grey mullets. Decline in infestation coincided with remission of the pathological signs.  相似文献

The coppice stands under the climatic conditions of Warmth Index (WI)≧85°C·month, and Coldness Index (CI)≦−10°C·month could be classified into aQuercus serrata type andCarpinus types at a heavy snowfall climate region of central Japan. The latter types tended to be more distributed on steeper slopes rather than the former. An analysis of tree forms and growth rates of species could reveal the characteristic of this habitat and vegetation type. The growth rates of stem diameter of dominant species on a gentle slope were higher than ones on a steep slope. However, the dominant species on the steeper slope had plasticity to basal bend with sustentacular roots, which is one form of tolerance of heavy snowfall on steep slopes. Average mortality during 14 years was 26%, irrespective of the gradient of a slope. More than one-third of dead shoots were induced by direct damage, while cracked or broken pieces of a stem were from heavy snowfall. The shoot density at smaller diameter classes tended to be higher at a stand having high horizontal variance of canopy surface caused by basal bend of big shoots. A frequency distribution function of individual tree weight (w), f(w)=pw−3/2, could be obtained at each coppice stand by statistical analysis. The value of a parameter p, a packing factor, tended to be higher at stands on steeper slopes consisting of largely bent shoots and was constant irrespective of the growth.  相似文献

The nemerteans of the genus Carcinonemertes live in association with decapod crustaceans. Juveniles of Carcinonemertes carcinophila imminuta Humes, 1942 are found in the gills of their hosts. A total of 281 specimens (52 males and 229 females) of Callinectes danae Smith, 1869 and 373 (332 males and 41 females) of Callinectes ornatus Ordway, 1863 were inspected for the occurrence of Carcinonemertes carcinophila imminuta in their gills. The prevalence and mean intensity of infestation by these nemerteans with regard to sex, maturity, condition of adult female crabs (ovigerous or non ovigerous), size (carapace width) and molt stage of hosts were evaluated. A prevalence of infestation by Carcinonemertes carcinophila imminutaof 39.1% was found in the population of Callinectes danae; the mean intensity of infestation was 12.0±2.7, while intensity ranged from 1 to 268. In this host species, significant differences in prevalence were observed between males and females, juveniles and adults and ovigerous and non-ovigerous adult females. Prevalence of infestation did not differ significantly among crabs in different molt stages. Mean intensity did not differ significantly between males and females nor among crabs in different molt stages. Significant differences in mean intensity were observed between ovigerous and non-ovigerous adult females of Callinectes danae. A positive correlation was observed between prevalence of infestation and the carapace width of Callinectes danae females. The prevalence of infestation in Callinectes ornatus was 8.0%; the mean intensity of infestation was 2.7±0.4 while intensity ranged from 1 to 9. Prevalence and mean intensity of infestation did not differ significantly between males and females and juveniles and adults. Prevalence did not differ significantly among crabs in different molt stages. No correlation was observed between the prevalence of infestation and the carapace width of males and females of Callinectes ornatus.  相似文献

Aucuba japonica , an evergreen broad-leaved shrub. Aucuba Japonica var. borealis is widely distributed in heavy snowfall areas in Japan and is covered, shaded and physically pressured by snow for more than four months of the year. On the other hand, var. japonica is widely distributed in light snowfall areas. The sizes of new shoots and leaves were significantly different between the two varieties with different critical shoot sizes for flowering. The average new shoot dry mass of var. borealis was about one third of that of var. japonica. Despite the differences in growing conditions and shoot size, no significant differences were observed in the allometry of their shoot organs between the two varieties. Large new shoots had thicker and longer stems per biomass than small shoots because of their larger pith volume. The large shoots showed higher efficiency of stem growth per invested biomass and had a higher rate of annual height increase than small shoots. When the size of new shoot rapidly increased from year to year, i.e. the plants are growing well, initiation of flowering was postponed and vegetative growth continued. Small new shoots were tolerant of low productivity conditions but traded vertical growth for an increase in matter allocation to leaves. Abstract

Twenty maize hybrids plus local were tested for their susceptibility to major pests of sorghum shootfly, Atherigona soccata Rondani under field conditions at Sohag governorate during three planting dates (20th April, 20th May and 5th July) sown during two tested years (2004 and 2005 seasons). The investigation showed that when the sowing dates were considered irrespective of the different years or the maize hybrids it was evident that during the first planting date (20th April), the maize hybrids harboured the highest levels of infestation with sorghum shootfly, Atherigona soccata Rondani. The second planting date (20th May) was the least affected while the third planting date (5th July) received moderate levels of infestation. Results also showed that the average infestation of Atherigona soccata during both seasons was a significantly negative correlation affected by the sowing dates and maize hybrids. The yield of maize hybrids negatively correlated with percentage of infestation by Atherigona soccata. The highest yield obtained from the maize hybrids was slightly infested by Atherigona soccata and sown during the planting date of 20th May. Therefore, the second sowing date (20th May) may be recommended as a proper cultivating date for maize hybrids as it brought about reduction not only in infestation but was also a good method to reduce chemical control. Our results indicated that none of the maize hybrids evaluated were found to be resistant to Atherigona soccata attack but maize hybrids were significantly different in their susceptibility and less than of a local control to the infestation with Atherigona soccata and divided into four groups, the first one was highly susceptible including Giza Baladi; the second group was susceptible including ten maize hybrids namely, Hf 155, Bionear 3062, Bionear 30k8, Nagah 18, Watania 4, HC 326, HC 327, Nafratity, Watania 1 and Bionear; the third group was low resistance including six maize hybrids namely, Hf 122, Hf 123, Hf 129, Hc314, Hc 325 and Hc 352; while the fourth group included Hf 10, Hf 124, Hc 311and Hc 324 and moderately resisted the Atherigona soccata infestation. These may serve as a good material for growing in the areas where the pest is a problem.  相似文献

在新疆伊犁地区1993年和1994年分别观察了195个和36个麦类品种对麦双尾蚜Diuraphis noxia(Mordvilko)的自然感虫性。36个品种两年的结果进行比较表明,感虫率级别相同的品种有18个,占50%;其中“一粒小麦”稳定地表现为不感虫性;感虫率稳定地表现在20%以下的品种有13个,即“86-2-4-2-3-3”、“京772”、“M85 189”、“T579”、“永良13”、“T494”、“浮纳尔”、 “Mg4521”、 “广引74”、“Mg5824”、“Mg8586”、“T1008”和“短芒黑边红”; 感虫率稳定在20%~40%的品种2个,即“额敏黑芒”和“白长穗”; 感虫率稳定在40%~60%的品种2个,即“黑芒红”和“勾毛白”。其余品种,有14个两年的感虫率相差一个级别(20%);“黑芒长穗”、“高原602”、“伊宁黄库尔班”和“82-10-42-1-1”等4个品种感虫率相差二个或三个级别。另外,1996年塔城引种试验的2个品种“春麦雄性不育系 901”和“啤酒大麦(石引1号)”均遭受麦双尾蚜的严重为害。  相似文献

Abstract: How small mammals are affected by habitat changes caused by forest insect epidemics is largely unknown. Our objective was to determine the influence of spruce beetle (Dendroctonus rufipennis) epidemics on the dynamics of northern red-backed vole (Clethrionomys rutilus) populations approximately 10 years post-infestation. We conducted a mark-recapture study on northern red-backed voles for 2 field seasons in the Copper River Basin, Alaska, USA, where recent beetle infestations were widespread. Using the robust sampling design, we produced estimates of vole abundance, survival, and recruitment in 3 locations that varied in their degree of beetle-induced spruce mortality. Vole abundance inversely related to the level of spruce mortality. Vole recruitment showed a larger contribution from both immigration and in situ reproduction in the low infestation site than in the medium and heavy infestation sites. No differences in vole survival were detectable across the 3 locations with varied beetle-induced spruce mortality levels. Measured vole food resources and protective vegetative cover did not vary greatly across infestation levels. Abundance and recruitment parameters indicate a negative change induced by spruce beetle infestations. However, the effect of beetles was not large enough to cause the variation in vole survival. Spruce mortality levels may need to be over 50% before greatly influencing the habitat and the demographics of northern red-backed voles.  相似文献

The vine mealybug, Planococcus ficus (Signoret) (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae), is a major pest of vineyards. Here, we tested the efficacy of the mating disruption method against the pest when applied during one or two successive years in high and low infestation levels. Following 1 year of treatment, at low initial infestation levels a shutdown of pheromone traps was observed, along with a significant reduction in infested vines. With initially high infestation levels, a gradual reduction in infested vines was observed, with a trap shutdown seen only after the second year of pheromone application. We discuss the implications of the male mating disruption method for this pest in which the wingless females are aggregated with limited movement among vines, offering multiple mating opportunities for the flying male.  相似文献

We investigated whether aphid presence and abundance influence the survival of an endophagous pre-dispersal seed predator of the same host plant. We studied a terrestrial community module consisting of one plant (Laburnum anagyroides) and four insect species/groups (an aphid, Aphis cytisorum, a pre-dispersal seed predator bruchid, Bruchidius villosus, aphid-attending ant species, and parasitoids of the bruchid). Two complementary investigations were carried out in parallel: (a) a plant-aphid-ant complex was experimentally manipulated by excluding aphids, ants, or both for 5 years to assess their impacts on the seed predator’s survival and parasitism rate; and (b) different aphid infestation levels on randomly selected infructescences were correlated with plant traits, nutrient allocation pattern, and variables of seed predator’s survival, such as the number of eggs laid and adults emerged influenced by parasitoid activity, for 7 years. We found that ants did not affect bruchid oviposition negatively, but egg-parasitism was significantly decreased by their presence. Plant traits, such as the number of seeds and seed mass, as well as seed predator performance were negatively affected by heavy aphid infestation. Seed predator -infested seeds had no effect on the mass of remaining seeds in the pods. This study suggests that aphids were nevertheless promoting bruchid abundance and survival, depending on their infestation rate.  相似文献

Red scale, Aonidiella aurantii Maskell (Hemiptera: Diaspididae), has a contagious distribution among fruit and among trees largely due to the fact that most young settle on the same fruit as their mothers. The pattern of distribution and degree of dispersion of red scale within various sets of contiguous citrus trees in several orchards were recorded each autumn for 4 years. Changes in density and site occupancy within trees and within contiguous groups of trees were made to assess the strength of any link between populations and their dynamics on different trees. Aonidiella aurantii was found to have a very clumped distribution whereby trees with a level of scale infestation well above average for their block could be adjacent to trees with few or no detectable scale. However, patches of high density on a given tree usually did not recur for more than 2 years but were replaced with above average infestations on other trees. The stability of the red scale populations varied from block to block. Some blocks had few or no infested trees over the study period whereas others had widely fluctuating levels of infestation. Dispersion coefficients at ‘within tree’ and ‘within block’ levels were similar. Theoretical and statistical models of the relation of average scale levels to the percentage of fruit or trees infested were less precise than they are for other pests because of high variation of clumping intensity of scale within any block.  相似文献

Burrowing-mayfly nymphs such as Hexagenia spp. have been used extensively in North America and Europe as a biomonitoring tool to indicate mesotrophic water quality, yet infestation by associated parasites has not been well documented. We performed laboratory analysis of archived samples of Hexagenia spp. nymphs collected in 1985 and 1986 to provide base-line data on the distribution (1985) and seasonal infestation (1986) of the trematode parasite Crepidostomum spp. in Hexagenia spp. nymphs in connecting rivers between Lakes Superior and Erie of the Laurentian Great Lakes. In May and June 1985, frequency of occurrence of metacercariae was widely distributed throughout the connecting rivers (63% of 203 stations with nymphs), except in areas where nymph densities were relatively low (i.e.,≤69 nymphs/m2). Distribution was probably underestimated in the present study because of low probability (mean = 31%, range = 0–57%) of detecting infestation in a small number of collected nymphs ( ≤10) at nymph densities ≤69/m2. In 1986, seasonal infestation between April and October occurred in 3.3% (627) of 18696 nymphs. Overall prevalence, mean intensity, and mean abundance of parasites at one station in the St. Marys River indicate parasite transmission occurred between June and September. This period of transmission is dependent on the life-cycle of the parasite. In addition, the life-cycle of Hexagenia spp. determines which annual cohort of nymphs is infested and therefore, the duration of infestation. Although, no impacts of infestation on Hexagenia spp. nymphs were observed in the present study, infestation intensities were high enough (≥25 metacercariae per nymph) at one station in the St. Marys River to potentially cause tissue damage in a high proportion (53%) of infested nymphs.  相似文献

Tropilaelaps mercedesae is a serious ectoparasite of Apis mellifera in China. The aim of this study was to investigate the infestation rates and intensity of T. mercedesae in A. mellifera in China, and to explore the relative importance of climate, district, management practices and beekeeper characteristics that are assumed to be associated with the intensity of T. mercedesae. Of the 410 participating apiaries, 379 apiaries were included in analyses of seasonal infestation rates and 352 apiaries were included in multivariable regression analysis. The highest infestation rate (86.3%) of T. mercedesae was encountered in autumn, followed by summer (66.5%), spring (17.2%) and winter (14.8%). In autumn, 28.9% (93) of the infested apiaries were in the north (including the northeast and northwest of China), 71.1% (229) were in the central and south (including east, southeast and southwest China), and 306 apiaries (82.9%) were co-infested by both T. mercedesae and Varroa. Multivariable regression analysis showed that geographical location, season, royal jelly collection and Varroa infestation were the factors that influence the intensity of T. mercedesae. The influence of beekeeper’s education, time of beekeeping, operation size, and hive migration on the intensity of T. mercedesa was not statistically significant. This study provided information about the establishment of the linkage of the environment and the parasite and could lead to better timing and methods of control.  相似文献

Cercariae of the trematodeCryptocotyle concavum, which encyst in skin and/or kidney of sticklebacks and gobies, were studied in the Schlei Fjord (western Baltic Sea). Mean incidence of dermal cysts was 48 % inGasterosteus aculeatus and 37 % inPungitius pungitius. No cysts were found in the kidneys of sticklebacks. While 97 % ofPomatoschistus microps had encysted metacercariae in the kidneys, only 2 % had cysts in the skin.Pomatoschistus minutus, however, showed hardly any cyst infestation of either skin or kidney. InP. microps the intensity of infestation by metacercariae was frequently more than 50 cysts; in contrast, sticklebacks rarely exhibited more than 5 dermal cysts. Infested fish were larger than 10 mm in total length, the incidence rate increasing with growth. Parasitic infestation depends on ambient salinity:C. concavum was not found at salinities below 4 . In contrast to the high incidence in fish, the first hosts — the snailsHydrobia stagnalis andH. neglecta — showed remarkably low infection rates (3 to 5 %). The findings reported are related to the distribution ofC. concavum, the mode of life of infested fish, the feeding habits of the final hosts and the infestation ofP. microps by other parasites. Evidently,P. microps represents an optimal second host forC. concavum.  相似文献
