The electrical activity of the oviduct and uterus was automatically registered on a potentiometric pen recorder in ewes fitted with an extracellular multielectrode assembly. The duration and amplitude of local non-propagating activity of the uterus increased and became progressively grouped into phases as natural oestrus progressed. Phases of contractions lasting 5-6 min were initially propagated at a rate of 2/hr. Their frequency increased within 24 hr of the decline in plasma progesterone levels. Grouped activity was then resumed for the next 24 hr. Similar changes were seen in the activity of the oviduct although this region was active earlier in oestrus. The uterotubal activity developed in the same way 24 hr after withdrawal of a progestagen-impregnated sponge but lasted for 3 days. When another oestrus was induced by injection of a prostaglandin analogue, the activity patterns were qualitatively similar although they did not start until 36 hr after injection and lasted for only 2 days. 相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to examine the effects of unilateral, isometric training of the forearm flexors on strength and the mechanomyographic (MMG) and electromyographic (EMG) responses of the biceps brachii in the trained and untrained limb at three joint angles. Seventeen adult females (mean age +/- SD = 21 +/- 2 years) were randomly assigned to a control (CTL; N=7) or a training (TRN; N=10) group. The TRN group performed isometric training of the non-dominant forearm flexors on a Cybex II Dynamometer at a joint angle such that the Cybex lever arm was positioned 60 degrees above the horizontal plane. The training consisted of 3 to 5 sets of 8, 6-second repetitions at 80% of maximal voluntary contraction 3 times per week for 8 weeks. The results indicated a significant increase in flexed arm circumference as well as isometric strength in the trained limb at all three joint angles. There were, however, no changes in MMG or EMG amplitude in the trained or untrained limb and no cross-training effect for strength or flexed arm circumference. These findings suggested that the increased strength may have been due to factors associated with hypertrophy, independent of neural adaptations in the biceps brachii. Furthermore, hypertrophy may have had counteractive effects on the MMG signal that could be responsible for the lack of a training-induced change in the MMG amplitude. 相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to define the degree of muscular activation while walking in water in order to aid rehabilitation therapists in their choice of exercises for daily clinical practice in aquatherapy. This study compares the electromyographic (EMG) activity of the rectus femoris, the soleus of the right lower limb and the contra-lateral lumbar erector spinae, during gait in water and on dry ground. The study was carried out on a group of seven healthy female subjects without past rachidian pathology. EMG recordings in water were taken with immersion to the umbilicus at "comfortable" speed. A total of five recordings were made at this speed, in water and on dry ground, with a one-minute rest between recordings. Integrated EMG results, averaged on eight gait cycles, show, for all the subjects, more erector spinae activity in water than on the ground (p<0.01). Soleus activity is greater during gait on dry ground for the whole group (p<0.01). For four subjects, the electromyographic (EMG) activity of the rectus femoris over the entire cycle is greater than that exhibited on dry ground.In the two experimental situations, no differences have been found either on amplitudinal peaks or on the shape of the patterns. The speed and gait cycle length are reduced in water (60% and 25%). Walking in water at an umbilical level increases the activity of the erector spinae and activates the rectus femoris to levels near to or higher than walking on dry ground.These data should be taken into account by the physiotherapist when designing a rehabilitation programme. 相似文献

The amplitude distribution probability function (ADPF) and the power spectrum of the surface electromyogram from m. deltoideus anterior, m. infraspinatus and m. trapezius pars descendens were analyzed from 7 persons working at a pillar drill. Recordings were performed 6 times during a working day. The ADPF was analyzed from 2-3 work-cycles from each recording. The static contraction level was 11.0% MCV in m. deltoideus anterior, 8.5% MVC in m. infraspinatus, and 20.5% MCV in m. trapezius, without any change occuring throughout the day. When compared to previous suggested upper limits of ADPF levels, both the static and the medium contraction levels were too high in the performance of this particular task. The power spectrum of the EMG was analyzed during isometric contractions of the shoulder muscles. The mean power frequency decreased during the day in m. trapezius only, suggesting muscular fatigue in this area. 相似文献

Knowledge of the strength, endurance and coordination of the shoulder muscles during dynamic contractions in healthy women would contribute to the understanding of symptoms in that part of the body in patients with myalgia. Twenty clinically healthy women performed single maximal forward shoulder flexions at four different angular velocities (0.57-3.14 rad.s-1). The same subjects also took part in two endurance tests (at angular velocities of 0.57 and 2.09 rad.s-1, respectively) consisting of 150 repeated maximal shoulder flexions. Electromyographic activity (EMG) was registered from four shoulder flexors using surface electrodes. Work was used as the mechanical variable. During the endurance tests subjects rated their perception of fatigue in the shoulder muscles. Work and the amplitude of the EMG signals decreaesd with angular velocity. The mean power frequency of the EMG was constant in the span of angular velocities investigated. During the endurance tests, work and the mean power frequency decreased during the initial 40-60 contractions followed by stable levels. The relative work level was higher at 2.09 than at 0.57 rad.s-1. Greater relative increases of the signal amplitudes of EMG occurred at 2.09 than at 0.57 rad.s-1. The EMG activity between the flexions (during the supposed passive extension) was higher at 2.09 than at 0.57 rad.s-1. Such a high activity was associated with a low mechanical performance at 2.09 rad.s-1. It is suggested that the initial sharp decreases in work and in mean power frequency reflect the fatiguing of the fast twitch motor units. Dynamic work consisting of continuous activity could predispose to muscle complaints. 相似文献

Rats subjected to physical training through swimming increased their weight at a slower rate than controls, which initially had the same characteristics. The ratio heart weight/body weight was 23% greater in the trained rats. However, the absolute weights of the hearts were only 7% greater. The ultrastructural morphometric study, backed up by and analysis of the hierarchical variance, did not reveal significant changes neither in the myofibrillar and mitochondrial volume nor in the number of mitochondria per surface unit of myocardium. Furthermore, no variations were recorded, due to training, in the amount of mitochondrial protein nor in the specific mitochondrial activities of malate dehydrogenase, cytochrome c oxidase and ATPase. It is therefore suggested that the increase in the measured parameters, due to training, is proportional to the increase in weight and size of the heart. On the other hand, the specific activity of LDH increased by 15% after the first weeks of training. 相似文献

The efficacy of electromyographic feedback training in reducing the magnitude and frequency of the oral-lingual movements associated with tardive dyskinesia (TD) was investigated in a groups design. Twenty adult male inpatients diagnosed as having TD using the Abnormal Involuntary Movements Scale (AIMS) were randomly assigned to one of two treatment conditions. Following identification, all participants were initially reduced to the lowest effective dosage of neuroleptics, and then discontinued from anticholinergics. Following one month on this regimen, they were given a course of feedback training consisting of ten 14-minute sessions. Group one participants were provided with a tone contingent upon oral-lingual movements above a yoked threshold. Group two participants were given noncontingent feedback tones generated randomly. Weekly AIMS were administered as well as an initial baseline during each session to determine current level of oral-lingual activity. An analysis of session effects indicated significantly more suppression of oral-lingual activity in the contingent group versus the noncontingent feedback group. Jaw and forehead activity also measured showed reductions of similar magnitudes for both groups. 相似文献

Maximal aerobic power was measured for 5-6 successive years in 50 Japanese schoolboys starting from the age of 9 or 13 yr. and for 2-3 yr in 6 superior junior runners from the age of 14 yr. A large increase in aerobic power was observed during the adolescent growth spurt for 7 schoolboys who trained between the ages of 9 and 14 yr. Aerobic power for 43 average schoolboys increased from 45.0 to 52.2 ml/kg.min between the ages of 13 and 17 yr. The aerobic power of 6 superior junior runners increased from 63.4 to 73.4 ml/kg.min between the ages of 14 and 17 yr. A remarkable increase in aerobic power was not observed in trained boys before the age of peak height growth velocity (PHV). Beginning approximately 1 yr prior to the age of PHV and thereafter, training effectively increased aerobic power above the normal increase attributable to age and growth. The highly developed aerobic power found in superior junior runners may have been derived from strenuous training and partially by genetically superior endowment. 相似文献

Electromyographic (EMG) activity was studied in American Kestrels (Falco sparverius) gliding in a windtunnel tilted to 8 degrees below the horizontal. Muscle activity was observed in Mm. biceps brachii, triceps humeralis, supracoracoideus, and pectoralis, and was absent in M. deltoideus major and M. thoracobrachialis (region of M. pectoralis). These active muscles are believed to function in holding the wing protracted and extended during gliding flight. Quantification of the EMG signals showed a lower level of activity during gliding than during flapping flight, supporting the idea that gliding is a metabolically less expensive form of locomotion than flapping flight. Comparison with the pectoralis musculature of specialized gliding and soaring birds suggests that the deep layer of the pectoralis is indeed used during gliding flight and that the slow tonic fibers found in soaring birds such as vultures represents a specialization for endurant gliding. It is hypothesized that these slow fibers should be present in the wing muscles that these birds use for wing protraction and extension, in addition to the deep layer of the pectoralis. © 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc. 相似文献

Myometrial electrography was performed by means of chronically implanted electrodes in the base, the middle and the tubal end of both the uterine horns of six Serres ewes at normal and progestogen-regulated estrus. During the first 24 h of normal estrus, myometrial electrical activity was characterized by intermittent spike bursts (Pattern I activity), occurring at about the same frequency in the three sites of both horns (middle of the right horn: 44.13 +/- 6.07 / 30 min). This pattern was then gradually transformed so that 36 h after the beginning of estrus, there was mostly only episodic activity consisting of 18.22 +/- 3.44 bursts, lasting 6.50 +/- 2.42 mins, and recurring at 30.51 +/- 16.24 min intervals simultaneously in both horns (Pattern II activity). During Patterns I and II, the respective ratios of descendingly to ascendingly propagated bursts were 2.65 and 0.78. Pattern I activity also occurred during the first 24 h of progestogen-regulated estrus, but the frequency of the bursts of spikes although occurring in the tubal ends of both horns at about the same rate as in Pattern I at normal estrus, gradually decreased towards the uterine body, (tubal end: 44.34 +/- 4.28, middle: 40.14 +/- 5.42, and base: 33.22 +/- 4.82 / 30 min). Then Pattern I activity was transformed into a miscellaneous pattern instead of into Pattern II. In the progestogen-regulated estrus, the ratio of the descending to the ascending propagations of spikes during Pattern I activity rose to 5.11. 相似文献

We evaluated the diaphragmatic function of seven patients with severe chronic respiratory failure before and after a bilateral lung transplantation (BLT), with follow-up at one year of pulmonary function tests, maximal inspiratory mouth pressure (MIP) and surface diaphragmatic electromyogram (Edi). The patients were asked to sustain target inspiratory pressures at -15, -30, and -50 cmH(2)O. We measured the endurance time (Tlim) to sustain inspiratory efforts and the power spectrum density function of Edi at each inspiratory maneuver. The Edi power spectra was analysed in terms of median frequency (MF), total power (TP) and energies in high-and low-frequency bands (EL and EH). Before BLT, a defect of the diaphragmatic function was evident: MIP was 62+/-7% of the predicted value and the Tlim measured at each inspiratory effort was very short ( 13+/-1 s, 10+/-1 s and 8+/-1 s at pressures of -15, -30, and -50 cmH(2)O, respectively). One month after BLT, the Tlim began to increase at all target inspiratory pressures and at 6 months MIP recovered to normal values. One month after BLT, there was a significant decrease in TP measured at the beginning of each inspiratory efforts and also an increase in the concomitant MF value. BLT markedly accentuated the maximal variations of TP, MF and low-frequency Edi energy. Some hypotheses are raised to explain this dramatic improvement in diaphragmatic function after BLT. 相似文献

Facial expressions dependent on interindividual distance were studied in pairs of Japanese macaques with varying age, sex, and rearing conditions. In each case, a caged subject was moved towards another in varied ways according to specific experimental conditions. In pairs consisting of field-born males (F-male vs.F-male), agonistic interactions were observed on some occasions, while only lipsmacking was displayed in pairs consisting ofF-male vs.F-female orF-male vs.F-female. In contrast toF-males, isolation-reared males displayed agonistic expressions to every partner at 1 m. The observed differences in behavior are discussed in relation to the function of the expressions in maintaining psychological security in the subjects concerned. 相似文献

The serratus anterior pars caudalis muscle of nonhuman primates displays anatomical differences among genera that can be attributed to differences in the mechanical demands placed on these genera by their diverse locomotor: behaviors. In primates that engage extensively in climbing and suspensory behaviors, the caudal digitations of this fan-shaped muscle are aligned more nearly parallel to the long axis of the trunk. In order to clarify the selective factors promoting such a morphological change, we have conducted a telemetered electromyographic study of the caudal and middle digitations of the serratus anterior pars caudalis. During voluntary elevation of the forelimb, only the middle, more obliquely disposed digitations are powerfully recruited. The caudal digitations are either inactive or function just to initiate scapular rotation. During locomotion, the middle digitations act in the swing (recovery) phase, whereas the caudal digitations are predominatly active in the support (propulsive)These Pashe findings suggest that the caudal digitations are important in propelling the trunk past the scapula during locomotion. Evolution of a fiber orientation more parallel to the long axis of the trunk is suggested to have occurred in broad chested primates for the purpose of facilitating locomotor behaviors requiring caudal scapular retraction for propulsion, but which would be deleteriously affected if such retraction were linked to simultaneous ventral displacement of the shoulder girdle. In its current state, the human serratus anterior seems clearly adapted for arm-raising functions and indicates descent from a small ape with a thoracic shape similar to atelines. 相似文献

Among primates there is striking variation in the extent of the origin of pectoralis major from the clavicle. A significant clavicular attachment (pars clavicularis) occurs only in Alouatta, Lagothrix, Hylobates, Pan (troglodytes, paniscus and gorilla), and Homo. Interpreting this trait in nonhuman primates as an adaptation to frequent use of a mobile forelimb in climbing and suspension is contraindicated by the absence of a clavicular origin in Ateles and Pongo. We have undertaken a telemetered electromyographic study to determine any special role of the most cranial part of the pectoralis major in comparison to its caudal part, and to the deltoid, during vertical climbing, pronograde quadrupedalism, and armswinging in Ateles, Lagothrix, Alouatta, and Hylobates. The results show that the cranial pectoralis major possesses a role not shared by the caudal fibers: initiation of the recovery phase of the locomotor cycle. When ability to execute rapid or powerful recovery of the adducted forelimb is required in an animal with a shoulder joint lying on a plane cranial to that of the manubrium, the movement will be facilitated if the origin of the pectoralis major is extended onto the clavicle. Such is the case in nonhuman primates possessing this trait. The absence of a clavicular origin in Ateles and Pongo may be related to diminished selective pressures to perfect locomotor modes such as pronograde quadrupedalism, armswinging, or climbing thick vertical trunks, that demand rapid or powerful recovery of the adducted forelimb. If the arboreal ancestor of humans had evolved a clavicular origin of pectoralis major, this animal would be preadapted for certain uses of the forelimb in its bipedal descendant. 相似文献
