The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of shoulder muscle fatigue on three dimensional scapulothoracic and glenohumeral kinematics. Twenty healthy subjects participated in this study. Three-dimensional scapulothoracic and glenohumeral kinematics were determined from electromagnetic sensors attached to the scapula, humerus, and thorax. Surface electromyographic (EMG) data were collected from the upper and lower trapezius, serratus anterior, anterior and posterior deltoid, and infraspinatus muscles. Median power frequency (MPF) values were derived from the raw EMG data and were used to indicate the degree of local muscle fatigue. Kinematic and EMG measures were collected prior to and immediately following the performance of a shoulder elevation fatigue protocol. Following the performance of the fatigue protocol subjects demonstrated more upward and external rotation of the scapula, more clavicular retraction, and less humeral external rotation during arm elevation. All muscles with the exception of the lower trapezius showed EMG signs of fatigue, the most notable being the infraspinatus and deltoid muscles. In general, greater scapulothoracic motion and less glenohumeral motion was observed following muscle fatigue. Further studies are needed to determine what effects these changes have on the soft tissues and mechanics of the shoulder complex.  相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a whole-body vibration training program to improve neuromuscular performance in young elite female athletes. Twenty-three women basketball players (14-18 years old) were randomly assigned to a control group (CG, n = 11) or to a whole-body vibration group (WBVG, n = 12). During the study period, both groups continued their usual training program, but the WBVG also underwent a 15-week vibration training program. We analyzed the countermovement jump test (CMJ), the 1-leg hop test for the right leg and for the left leg, and the single-limb standing balance for both legs and with eyes open and closed at 3 time points: before training (T1), after an 8-week training period (T2), and after a further 7-week training period (T3). Compared with the CG, CMJ increased significantly in the WBVG from T1 to T2 (6.47%, p < 0.001), T1 to T3 (10.07%, p = 0.005), and T2 to T3 (3.38%, p < 0.001). One-leg hop test for the right and left legs also showed significantly higher values in WBVG from T1 to T2 (10.12%, p < 0.001 and 9.63%, p = 0.002, respectively) and T1 to T3 (14.17%, p = 0.001 and 15.17%, p = 0.004, respectively). Lateral deviation of the center of pressure in the closed eyes test decreased significantly in WBVG for both right and left leg, from T1 to T2 (-22.20%, p = 0.043 and -34.77%, p < 0.001, respectively) and from T1 to T3 (-33.14%, p = 0.027 and -33.58%, p = 0.043, respectively) compared with the CG. In conclusion, our results show that a 15-week whole-body vibration training program improves explosive strength and postural stability in adolescent female basketball players.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a 4-month season of collegiate tennis on glenohumeral joint internal and external rotation strength and range of motion in female collegiate tennis players. Eleven female collegiate tennis players were isokinetically tested to assess glenohumeral joint internal and external rotation strength with 90 degrees of abduction on a Cybex 6000 isokinetic dynamometer. Subjects were also measured for internal and external rotation range of motion using a universal goniometer with 90 degrees of abduction. Measurements were taken before and immediately after a 4-month season of competitive collegiate tennis play. A repeated-measures analysis of variance showed no significant difference in internal or external rotation strength or range of motion between pre- and postseason measures. Results from this study show that, despite 4 months of competitive tennis play, changes in rotational strength and range of motion did not occur. These data have implications for clinicians as well as strength and conditioning professionals designing rehabilitation and preventative conditioning programs for athletes in this population.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine whether eccentrically biased exercise training could attenuate changes in muscle and bone function associated with estrogen deficiency in the mouse model. Four groups of ICR mice were used: control (Con), sham ovariectomized (Sham), ovariectomized (OVX), and ovariectomized + high-force resistance training (OVX+Train). All groups except Con were implanted with a nerve cuff surrounding the peroneal nerve to stimulate the left ankle dorsiflexors. Training consisted of 30 stimulated eccentric contractions of the left ankle dorsiflexors at approximately 150% of peak isometric torque every third day for 8 wk. After the training period, groups were not significantly different with regard to peak torque or muscle size. However, the tibial midshaft of the trained leg in the OVX+Train mice exhibited greater stiffness (+15%) than that in the untrained OVX mice, which could not be explained by changes in cross-sectional geometry of the tibia. Scaling of bone mechanical properties to muscle strength were not altered by ovariectomy or training. These data indicate that eccentric exercise training in adult mice can significantly increase bone stiffness, despite the absence of ovarian hormones.  相似文献

Higbie, Elizabeth J., Kirk J. Cureton, Gordon L. Warren III,and Barry M. Prior. Effects of concentric and eccentric trainingon muscle strength, cross-sectional area, and neural activation.J. Appl. Physiol. 81(5):2173-2181, 1996.We compared the effects of concentric (Con) andeccentric (Ecc) isokinetic training on quadriceps muscle strength,cross-sectional area, and neural activation. Women (age 20.0 ± 0.5 yr) randomly assigned to Con training (CTG;n = 16), Ecc training (ETG;n = 19), and control (CG;n = 19) groups were tested before andafter 10 wk of unilateral Con or Ecc knee-extension training. Averagetorque measured during Con and Ecc maximal voluntary knee extensions increased 18.4 and 12.8% for CTG, 6.8 and 36.2% for ETG, and 4.7 and1.7% for CG, respectively. Increases by CTG and ETG were greater than for CG (P < 0.05). ForCTG, the increase was greater when measured with Con than with Ecctesting. For ETG, the increase was greater when measured with Ecc thanwith Con testing. The increase by ETG with Ecc testing was greater thanthe increase by CTG with Con testing. Corresponding changes in theintegrated voltage from an electromyogram measured during strengthtesting were 21.7 and 20.0% for CTG, 7.1 and 16.7% for ETG, and8.0 and 9.1% for CG. Quadriceps cross-sectional areameasured by magnetic resonance imaging (sum of 7 slices) increased morein ETG (6.6%) than in CTG (5.0%) (P < 0.05). We conclude that Ecc is more effective than Con isokinetictraining for developing strength in Ecc isokinetic muscle actions andthat Con is more effective than Ecc isokinetic training for developingstrength in Con isokinetic muscle actions. Gains in strength consequentto Con and Ecc training are highly dependent on the muscle action usedfor training and testing. Muscle hypertrophy and neural adaptationscontribute to strength increases consequent to both Con and Ecctraining.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of regular whole-body vibration (WBV) training on lower body strength and power. National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III softball athletes (n = 9) completed the 9-week protocol as part of their off-season strength and conditioning program. The athletes were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups. Week 1, pretesting included 3 repetition maximum (3RM) back squat, standing long jump (SLJ), and vertical countermovement jump (VCMJ). Phase I training (weeks 2-4) consisted of either WBV training (group 1) or conventional strength training (CST, group 2). The primary programmatic difference between WBV and CST was the inclusion of WBV sets after squat sets. Posttesting (3RM squat, SLJ, VCMJ) occurred at week 5. Phase II training (weeks 6-8) consisted of either WBV training (group 2) or CST (group 1). Posttesting was repeated at week 9 after the completion of phase II. Three 2 × 2 mixed factorial analyses of variance were computed. No significant differences (p > 0.05) were found between groups or between groups and testing period for the SLJ, VCMJ, and estimated 1RM back squat. Increases (p < 0.05) were observed in SLJ, VCMJ, and back squat from pretest to posttest 1. Back squat increased (p < 0.05) from posttest 1 to posttest 2. All the athletes experienced significantly greater (p < 0.05) percent changes from pretest to posttest 1 for SLJ and VCMJ. These results indicate that the inclusion of WBV as part of an off-season strength and conditioning program has no apparent benefit over CST methods for collegiate softball players.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare pure eccentric and concentric isokinetic training with respect to their possible specificity in the adaptation of strength and morphology of the knee extensor muscles. Ten moderately trained male physical education students were divided into groups undertaking eccentric (ETG) and concentric (CTG) training. They performed 10 weeks of maximal isokinetic (90 degrees x s(-1)) training of the left leg, 4x10 repetitions - three times a week, followed by a second 10-week period of similar training of the right-leg. Mean eccentric and concentric peak torques increased by 18% and 2% for ETG and by 10% and 14% for CTG, respectively. The highest increase in peak torque occurred in the eccentric 90 degrees x s(-1) test for ETG (35%) whereas in CTG strength gains ranged 8%-15% at velocities equal or lower than the training velocity. Significant increases in strength were observed in the untrained contra-lateral leg only at the velocity and mode used in ipsilateral training. Cross-sectional area of the quadriceps muscle increased 3%-4% with training in both groups, reaching statistical significance only in ETG. No major changes in muscle fibre composition or areas were detected in biopsies from the vastus lateralis muscle for either leg or training group. In conclusion, effects of eccentric training on muscle strength appeared to be more mode and speed specific than corresponding concentric training. Only minor adaptations in gross muscle morphology indicated that other factors, such as changes in neural activation patterns, were causing the specific training-induced gains in muscle strength.  相似文献

Forward head and rounded shoulder posture (FHRSP) is theorized to contribute to alterations in scapular kinematics and muscle activity leading to the development of shoulder pain. However, reported differences in scapular kinematics and muscle activity in those with forward head and rounded shoulder posture are confounded by the presence of shoulder pain. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare scapular kinematics and muscle activity in individuals free from shoulder pain, with and without FHRSP. Eighty volunteers were classified as having FHRSP or ideal posture. Scapular kinematics were collected concurrently with muscle activity from the upper and lower trapezius as well as the serratus anterior muscles during a loaded flexion and overhead reaching task using an electromagnetic tracking system and surface electromyography. Separate mixed model analyses of variance were used to compare three-dimensional scapular kinematics and muscle activity during the ascending phases of both tasks. Individuals with FHRSP displayed significantly greater scapular internal rotation with less serratus anterior activity, during both tasks as well as greater scapular upward rotation, anterior tilting during the flexion task when compared with the ideal posture group. These results provide support for the clinical hypothesis that FHRSP impacts shoulder mechanics independent of shoulder pain.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate which muscle group, the agonist or antagonist, contributes most to the shoulder position sense (SPS). The SPS was tested under 2 conditions: fatigued shoulder internal rotator (IR) muscles (pectoralis major and latissimus dorsi) and fatigued external rotator (ER) muscles (infraspinatus). In each condition, the SPS was measured before and after a fatiguing task involving the IR or ER muscles by repeating shoulder joint rotation. SPS was measured using a method in which subjects reproduced a memorized shoulder joint rotation angle. The position error values in all conditions (fatigued IR and ER muscles) and measurement periods (before- and after-fatigue task) were compared using 2-way analysis of variance with repeated measures (IR/ER × before/after). Position error increased significantly after both fatigue tasks (before- vs. after-fatigue: IR muscle, 2.68° vs. 4.19°; ER muscle, 2.32° vs. 4.05°). In other words, SPS accuracy decreased when either the agonist or antagonist muscle was fatigued. This finding indicated that SPS may be affected by an integrated information of the afferent signals in the agonist and antagonist muscles.  相似文献

Scapular kinematics alterations have been found following muscle fatigue. Considering the importance of the lower trapezius in coordinated scapular movement, this study aimed to investigate the effects of elastic taping (Kinesio taping, KT) for muscle facilitation on scapular kinematics of healthy overhead athletes following muscle fatigue. Twenty-eight athletes were evaluated in a crossover, single-blind, randomized design, in three sessions: control (no taping), KT (KT with tension) and sham (KT without tension). Scapular tridimensional kinematics and EMG of clavicular and acromial portions of upper trapezius, lower trapezius and serratus anterior were evaluated during arm elevation and lowering, before and after a fatigue protocol involving repetitive throwing. Median power frequency decline of serratus anterior was significantly lower in KT session compared to sham, possibly indicating lower muscle fatigue. However, the effects of muscle fatigue on scapular kinematics were not altered by taping conditions. Although significant changes were found in scapular kinematics following muscle fatigue, they were small and not considered relevant. It was concluded that healthy overhead athletes seem to present an adaptive mechanism that avoids the disruption of scapular movement pattern following muscle fatigue. Therefore, these athletes do not benefit from the use of KT to assist scapular movement under the conditions tested.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of additional resistance training on cardiorespiratory endurance in young (15.8 ± 0.8 yrs) male basketball players. Experimental group subjects (n=23) trained twice per week for 12 weeks using a variety of general free-weight and machine exercises designed for strength acquisition, beside ongoing regular basketball training program. Control group subject (n=23) participated only in basketball training program. Oxygen uptake (VO(2max)) and related gas exchange measures were determined continuously during maximal exercise test using an automated cardiopulmonary exercise system. Muscle power of the extensors and flexors was measured by a specific computerized tensiometer. Results from the experimental group (VO(2max) 51.6 ± 5.7 ml.min(-1).kg(-1) pre vs. 50.9 ± 5.4 ml.min(-1).kg(-1) post resistance training) showed no change (p>0.05) in cardiorespiratory endurance, while muscle strength and power of main muscle groups increased significantly. These data demonstrate no negative cardiorespiratory performance effects on adding resistance training to ongoing regular training program in young athletes.  相似文献

BackgroundVarious studies have investigated scapulothoracic muscle activity and recruitment patterns in relation to shoulder complaints in different populations, but a consensus review is lacking.Hypothesis/purposeTo systematically review the state of the art regarding scapulothoracic muscle activity and recruitment timing in subjects with shoulder pain compared to pain free controls.Study designSystematic review.MethodsThe search for relevant articles was performed in Pubmed and Web of Science, including Web of Knowledge, using key words related to shoulder pain, scapulothoracic muscle activity or recruitment timing. Articles were included till November 2012. Case-control studies concerning the scapulothoracic region and muscle recruitment using electromyography (EMG) were included. Articles regarding rotator cuff muscles or neck-shoulder pathologies or studies handling a treatment outcome, were excluded. The methodological quality of the articles was assessed using appropriate risk of bias criteria for case-control studies.ResultsA total of 12 articles were included in the systematic review, containing patients with Shoulder Impingement Syndrome (SIS) or glenohumeral instability. In patients with SIS 3 out of 6 articles showed increased upper trapezius muscle (UT) activity, 3 out of 5 studies showed decreased lower trapezius muscle (LT) activity and 3 out of 5 articles showed decreased serratus anterior muscle (SA) activity. Patients with glenohumeral instability showed contradictory results on scapulothoracic muscle activity patterns. In both SIS and glenohumeral instability patients, no consensus was found on muscle recruitment timing.ConclusionPatients with SIS and glenohumeral instability display numerous variations in scapulothoracic muscle activity compared to healthy controls. In the SIS-group, the LT and SA muscle activity is decreased. In addition, the UT muscle activity is increased among the SIS patients, whereas no clear change is seen among patients with glenohumeral instability. Although the scapulothoracic muscle activity changed, no consensus could be made regarding muscle recruitment timing.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of medicine ball training on the strength and power in young female handball athletes. Twenty-one young female handball players (age, 16.9 ± 1.2 years) were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Experimental group (n = 11) participated in a 12-week medicine ball training program incorporated into the regular training session, whereas controls (n = 10) participated only in the regular training. Performance in the medicine ball throws in standing and sitting positions, 1 repetition maximum (1RM) bench and shoulder press, and power test at 2 different loads (30 and 50% of 1RM) on bench and shoulder press were assessed at pre- and posttraining testing. The athletes participating in the medicine ball training program made significantly greater gains in all medicine ball throw tests compared with the controls (p < 0.01). Also, the experimental group made significantly greater gains in bench and shoulder press power than control group (p < 0.05). Both training groups (E) and (C) significantly (p < 0.05) increased 1RM bench and shoulder strength, with no differences observed between the groups. Additionally, medicine ball throw tests showed stronger correlation with power tests, than with 1RM tests. These data suggest that 12-week medicine ball training, when incorporated into a regular training session, can provide greater sport-specific training improvements in the upper body for young female handball players.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine if the elimination of satellite cell proliferation using gamma-irradiation would inhibit normal force recovery after eccentric contraction-induced muscle injury. Adult female ICR mice were implanted with a stimulating nerve cuff on the common peroneal nerve and assigned to one of four groups: 1) irradiation- and eccentric contraction-induced injury, 2) eccentric contraction-induced injury only, 3) irradiation only, and 4) no intervention. Anterior crural muscles were irradiated with a dose of 2,500 rad and injured with 150 in vivo maximal eccentric contractions. Maximal isometric torque was determined weekly through 35 days postinjury. Immediately after injury, maximal isometric torque was reduced by approximately 50% and had returned to normal by 28 days postinjury in the nonirradiated injured mice. However, torque production of irradiated injured animals did not recover fully and was 25% less than that of injured nonirradiated mice 35 days postinjury. These data suggest that satellite cell proliferation is required for approximately half of the force recovery after eccentric contraction-induced injury.  相似文献

The sex disparity in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury risk and the subsequent adverse effects on knee joint health, psychosocial well-being, and financial costs incurred have produced a surge in research on risk factors and interventions designed to decrease this disparity and overall incidence. Biomechanical and neuromuscular differences have been identified throughout the trunk and lower extremity that may increase noncontact ACL injury risk in female athletes. Evidence demonstrates that many risk factors are modifiable with intervention programs and that athletic performance measures can be enhanced. No universally accepted ACL injury prevention program currently exists, and injury prevention programs are diverse. Anterior cruciate ligament injury prevention programs introduced in a warm-up format offer multiple benefits, primarily, improved compliance based on improved practicality of implementation. However, drawbacks of warm-up style formats also exist, most notably that a lack of equipment and resources may preclude measurable improvements in athletic performance that foster improved compliance among participants. The purpose of this review is to analyze the current literature researching possible biomechanical and neuromuscular risk factors in noncontact ACL injury in female athletes and the most effective means of implementing critical elements of a program to decrease ACL injury risk in female athletes while improving athletic performance. Hip and hamstring training, core stabilization, plyometrics, balance, agility, neuromuscular training with video and verbal feedback to modify technique, and stretching appear to be essential components of these programs. Further research is critical to determine ideal training program volume, intensity, duration, and frequency.  相似文献

This study evaluated and compared the effectiveness of an aerobics-calisthenics (A-CAL) and an aerobics/weight training (A-WT) programs on lower limb strength and body fat (%). Thirty-five adult women (age 42.1 +/- 5.2 years) were randomly assigned to A-CAL (n = 14), A-WT (n = 14), or a control group (n = 7). The A-CAL and A-WT trained 3 days per week for 10 weeks. Maximal bilateral isometric and isokinetic knee extension (KEXT) and flexion (KFLEX) torque, squat jump (SJ), and body fat (%) were measured before and immediately after training. The results revealed nonsignificant differences between A-CAL and A-WT (p > 0.05). Both A-CAL and A-WT improved SJ (p < 0.001). A-WT increased isometric torque of KEXT and KFLEX (p < 0.05), isokinetic torque of KFLEX (p < 0.05), and decreased body fat (%) (p < 0.05) when compared with controls. In summary, the application of a 10-week light-weight training program improved selected strength parameters of healthy women, compared with controls, but the effectiveness of the calisthenics exercises as an independent form of strength training is dubious.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo assess the electrical activity of the suprahyoid muscle and the tongue pressure in a two-wing program of tongue strengthening in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD).MethodsA pre-post-detraining design study included sixty PD patients assigned to two groups randomly. The experimental group (EG) performed tongue isometric pressure exercises using the Iowa Oral Performance Instrument with an increasing scheme of 5% load weekly and traditional tongue therapy for 8 weeks. The control group (CG) performed only traditional therapy. The electrical activity of suprahyoids was measured using surface electromyography (sEMG) during tongue-to-palate pressure. Four selected domains of the Swallowing Quality of Life Questionnaire (SWAL-QOL) mostly related to tongue strength were considered.ResultsThe experimental group showed increased sEMG values of suprahyoid muscles reaching statistically significant difference at the fourth week of tongue training, while the control did it at the eighth week. Experimental group showed significant improvements in tongue strength (d = 2.128; p = 0.000). Only controls showed detraining effect. Statistically significant difference within groups were found in one and three dimensions of the SWAL-QOL in the CG and EG, respectively.ConclusionAnalysis of electrical activity on suprahyoids muscles provided a better understanding of the changes underlying the outcomes of tongue strength gains obtained through a combined tongue strengthening exercises protocol in PD. Such protocol led not only to increased tongue strength but also to a better perceived swallowing function in PD subjects.  相似文献

The aims of this study were to assess the behavior of a vibrating platform under different conditions and to compare the effects of an 8-week periodized training program with whole-body vibration (WBV) alone or in combination with conventional strength training (ST). Vibrating frequencies, displacements, and peak accelerations were tested through a piezoelectric accelerometer under different conditions of load and subjects' position. Eighteen national-level female athletes were assigned to 1 of 3 different groups performing WBV, conventional ST, or a combination of the 2 (WBV + ST). Isometric maximal voluntary contraction, dynamic maximal concentric force, and vertical jump tests were performed before and after the conditioning program. Vibrating displacements and maximum accelerations measured on the device were not always consistent with their expected values calculated from the display and manufacturers' information (sinusoidal waveforms). The WBV alone or in combination with low-intensity resistance exercise did not seem to induce significant enhancements in force and power when compared with ST. It appears that WBV cannot substitute parts of ST loading in a cohort of young female athletes. However, vibration effects might be limited by the behavior of the commercial platforms as the one used in the study. More studies are needed to analyze the performances of devices and the effectiveness of protocols.  相似文献
