The African halfbeak Hyporhamphus picarti (Hemiramphidae) is one of the most abundant species within the ichthyoplankton community of the Sine Saloum estuary (Senegal). A year‐round occurrence of larvae suggests that the Sine Saloum is an important spawning habitat for this species. Annual fluctuations in water temperature, however, can have severe impacts on the survival probabilities of marine fish larvae. To determine whether temperature has an effect on the growth of H. picarti during its larval development, larval age at length and somatic growth rates were investigated for two contrasting spawning seasons in 2014: February (cold season, 20.8°C) and June (warm season, 26.4°C). In both months H. picarti larvae were sampled at the mouth of the Saloum River using neuston nets. Sagittal otoliths’ increments were counted to estimate the larva age at a given standard length (SL). The age of larvae ranged between 2 and 22 days, with SL of 3.86–21.68 mm, respectively. In order to describe larval age at length during the contrasting spawning seasons, two distinctive Gompertz functions were applied. Accordingly, specimens sampled in June (0.94 ± 0.17 mm per day) exhibited significantly higher somatic growth rates than those sampled in February (0.60 ± 0.06 mm per day). These findings suggest that water temperature is an important factor influencing larval growth in H. picarti. Information concerning the early life stages of H. picarti are scarce and the results of the present study may contribute to a better understanding of the species’ biology and ecology.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to know the cyclic changes in gonadal maturation and to investigate the various developmental stages of oocytes and testicular germ cells of snow trout, Schizopyge niger. A total of 316 fish specimens were procured from three sites of river Jhelum during November 2016 to October 2017 and the histological analysis of their gonad was carried out. The results of the present study indicates that the male population was found significantly (p < 0.05) higher compared to female population and were reported as (1.6:1; M:F). The highest mean GSI value was recorded in male (12.24 ± 0.89) during the month of March and for female (13.74 ± 0.92) also in the month of March, which indicated that the gonadal development reached its peak during this month. The highest mean oocyte diameter was 1.04 ± 0.20 mm observed in March, showing that the oocyte reached its maturity during this month. Histological study of ovary revealed the evidence of vitellogenic yolk granule stage and ripe mature stage from December to April. While in case of male, four stages of spermatogenesis were distinguished and spermatozoa were highly abundant in the months of March and April. Mean ± SE of absolute fecundity was 3,224 ± 421 eggs and also, the relative fecundity was 69 egg/g body weight. Based on the results of GSI and the analysis of gonad histology, it was observed that the peak breeding season of S. niger occurred in the month of March. It was also noted that spawning period of this fish begins in the month of February and lasts till April with a peak breeding season in the month of March. The present study will provide a baseline information about the appropriate peak breeding of the fish, which will be useful for artificial breeding as well for prevention of fishing from natural habitat.  相似文献

The feeding rate effects were studied on the growth performance of gynogenetic diploid larvae of sterlet Acipenser ruthenus during the first 4 weeks of exogenous feeding. The experimental rearing was conducted from 7 to 38 days post‐hatch (dph) in a circulation system. This was set up in four groups with three replicates (440 individuals/replicate), viz: AC‐control larvae fed Artemia sp., CFC‐control larvae fed compound feed, AG‐gynogenetic larvae fed Artemia sp., and CFG‐gynogenetic larvae fed compound feed. The larvae were reared in glass tanks (44 L volume, 10 individuals/L) with the temperature maintained at 18 ± 0.5°C, photoperiod of 12L:12D and water flow regime of 1‐L/min and fed 50%, 25%, 25%, and 9% of their total biomass/day during feeding. Highest TL and WBW of gynogenetic diploid larvae (AG) were observed with 50.6 ± 1.2 mm and 607.3 ± 36.1 mg (n = 30) at 38 dph. Highest TL and WBW of control larvae (AC) were recorded with 49.5 ± 3.8 mm and 600.8 ± 88.0 mg (n = 30), respectively, with 73.1% ± 11.4% survival; the lowest survival rate was at 46.4% ± 7.1% (n = 30) for the CFG group. The results indicate that the gynogenetic and normal larvae of sterlet fed with live food (Artemia nauplii) from 7 dph can achieve higher growth and survivability compared to the larvae fed with formulated test feed. Results of this study suggest that the effective rearing of sterlet larvae from 7 to 38 dph strongly depends upon the types of feed rather than the genome manipulation performed.  相似文献

A recent study concerning the reproductive biology of the garfish (Belone belone, L. 1761) has been carried out in the eastern part of the Adriatic Sea along the Croatian coastline. Specimens of the fish (N = 3,393) were collected over a 6-year period (2003–2008). Their length varied between 20.8 and 75.4 cm (mean ± SD = 38.3 ± 7.94). Female garfish were dominant in larger length groups being most apparent during the resting phase of sexual cycle and in the peak of the spawning period, occurring in April and May. The sexual ratio of all specimens was m/f = 0.98. Males were prevalent in March—at the beginning of the highest spawning activities. Fifty percentage of the garfish population sexually matured at 28.5 cm of total length. Males and females reached their sexual maturity at 28.0 and 31.5 cm of total length, respectively. Spawning began in January peaking during March to May. According to their maturity stages, gonad weight and the gonadosomatic index, males began to spawn one month earlier (April) than females (May). The mean batch fecundity of garfish was 1,242.46 ± 843.64 of matured oocytes per ovary. Matured oocyte diameters ranged from 1.223 to 4.283 mm with the mean value of 2.269 ± 0.332 mm.  相似文献

Ecological aspects of recruitment in the amphidromous goby, Sicyopterus japonicus, were studied from larval collections made with a set net in the estuary of the Ota River, Wakayama, Japan. The abundance patterns of the 12,766 larvae collected from 18 April to 26 August 2006 showed several peaks during the recruitment season. Their body sizes at recruitment ranged from 23.5 to 30.0 mm standard length (mean ± SD, 26.3 ± 1.1 mm), 0.11 to 0.49 g body weight (0.22 ± 0.05 g), and 8 to 20 condition factor (11 ± 2). The standard length of the goby larvae tended to decrease with the season, while their body weight slightly increased and resulted in an increase in condition factor. The recruitment of larvae occurred mainly during the daytime. Otolith growth increment analysis of 30 larvae collected by a square lift net on 30 April 2005 revealed that the oceanic larval duration after downstream migration ranged from 173 to 253 days (208 ± 22) after hatching. A limited time of recruitment in early summer and a considerably long duration of oceanic life (about a half year) appeared to be unique characteristics of this Sicyopterus species that lives in a temperate region in comparison to other tropical species of the genus Sicyopterus that all have year-round recruitment.  相似文献

The RNA/DNA ratio commonly used as proxy for the nutritional condition of fish larvae is affected by RNA degradation during analysis. For evaluation of two strategies to improve RNA integrity, a three‐week feeding trial was carried out to assess the suitability of two nematode species (fam. Panagrolaimidae) as feed for newly hatched carp larvae (Cyprinus carpio) in comparison to Artemia nauplii (Artemia sp.) and a commercial dry feed. Aiming for an increased reproducibility of RNA/DNA determination, a high‐salt inactivation (RNA later) as well as a targeted approach with a recombinant RNase inhibitor were compared to the classical protocol using lab chip technology. Improved RNA integrity was observed with high‐salt inactivation when compared with a strategy applying a specific RNase inhibitor or the classic protocol. Carp larvae fed Artemia for 2 weeks and then dry feed for 1 week revealed the best overall growth performance as well as survival [83.0 ± 35.2 mg fresh weight (FW), 20.0 ± 2.4 mm total length (TL), 86.6 ± 11.7% survival]. Larvae fed the nematode species Panagrellus redivivus for 1 week and subsequently dry feed for 2 weeks (37.4 ± 29.1 mg FW, 14.7 ± 2.8 mm TL, 76.0 ± 6.0% survival) performed better than larvae fed with dry feed alone (28.2 ± 29.6 mg FW, 14.3 ± 2.9 mm TL, 54.3 ± 14.2% survival) or those receiving Panagrellus for 2 weeks. Between both nematode species, Panagrellus was a better feed with regard to growth performance and survival. RNA/DNA ratios ranged between 0.65 ± 0.27 (8 days post‐hatch) and 1.96 ± 0.63 (22 days post‐hatch) and were in the same treatment order as the other growth parameters. RNA/DNA ratios were significantly correlated with the growth rate, and decreasing RNA/DNA ratios in larger larvae may reflect decreasing growth rates with size rather than decreased nutritional status. Here, an improved RNA/DNA ratio protocol is presented in a feeding trial that reveals the suitability of nematodes as a first feed for common carp larvae.  相似文献

The reproductive biology of Caranx rhonchus (Geoffroy Saint‐Hilaire, 1817) (Pisces, Carangidae) was studied in the Gulf of Gabès (Mediterranean Sea) from June 2004 to May 2006. Of 1313 individuals examined, 668 were females (50.9%) and 645 were males (49.1%). The overall sex ratio did not deviate significantly in favour of females (♀ : ♂ = 1.04 : 1). Monthly changes in the Gonado–Somatic Index (GSI) showed a rapid increase from May to June and an extended very high level from June to September (4.43–3.47% for females and 3.35–2.61% for males), before declining sharply in October (down to 2.02% for females and 0.57% for males). The gametogenesis activity began with a pre‐maturation phase from March to May, followed by a ripe‐spawning phase from June to September. From the last days of July to the end of October, the gonads were in the spent and post‐spawning stages. From November to early May, gonads were in the resting stages. The size at which 50% of the population reached sexual maturity was not significantly different between males and females :  males attained sexual maturity at fork length FL50 = 161.20 ± 0.37 mm (n = 262), whereas females attained maturity at FL50 = 160.70 ± 0.23 mm (n = 296). The anadromous sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) stop feeding during spawning migration; following the migration effort, the energy reserves of their tissues are expected to be mobilised and depleted. The present work aimed at testing if mobilisation of nutrients occurred in sea lampreys during the 2011 spawning run in the Minho River. Professional fishermen at three sampling sites captured the individuals used: two at the beginning of the freshwater spawning migration (one at the river mouth and one upstream the estuary) and one near the spawning grounds (35 km upstream the estuary limit). The total lipids (Folch extraction), protein (nitrogen conversion), energy content (direct calorimetry) and fatty acids (GC/EI‐MS‐SIM) were determined in the carcass (n = 19) and female liver (n = 8) and gonads (n = 8). The results indicated that a reduction of carcass dry matter during migration was mainly caused by a lipid decrease (51.0 ± 2.46% downstream and 38.0 ± 2.92% upstream, LSmean ± SE). In females, a decrease in the measured amounts of liver lipids was also observed (4.28 ± 2.637 g downstream and 0.64 ± 2.206 g upstream, LSmean ± SE) and the monounsaturated fatty acids consistently composed the larger fraction of lipids in all tissues (ranging between 42.9 ± 4.20% and 54.9 ± 3.43% of total fatty acids, LSMean ± SE). The results suggest a dynamic nutrient mobilisation and the major importance of liver fatty acids (such as 14:1n‐5 and 16:1n‐7) as possible energy sources for embryonic development or combustion during spawning migration. The P. marinus individuals captured at the intermediate sampling site (approximately 35 km upstream river mouth) in the middle of the season seemed as ready to spawn as the upstream sea lampreys.  相似文献

The early life history of Ayu (Plecoglossus altivelis) was investigated in the Kalong and Tien Yen River systems, northern Vietnam, which is probably the most southern distribution locality for this species, during the period of November 2010 to February 2011. A total of 248 larvae were captured in the Kalong, and none were collected in the Tien Yen. There was little difference in development between the Kalong larvae and those of P. a. altivelis and P. a. ryukyuensis. Temperatures and salinities when the larvae were collected ranged from ca. 12 to 21°C and from ca. 3.5 to 30 psu. The preflexion to flexion larvae (primarily preflexion with yolk, 5.2–12.9 mm BL) occurred in the central current from December to February, with a peak abundance in early January. The flexion to postflexion (primarily postflexion, 14.1–23.8 mm BL) larvae occurred in the bank waters from early January to late February. The larval occurrence in the Kalong was 1–2 months later than for P. a. altivelis in Japan and P. a. ryukyuensis in the Ryukyu Islands, probably because of the delay until a reasonable photoperiod for the start of spawning in the lower latitudinal region. The larvae were never collected from the sea, where the temperatures were lower than in the river and estuary in January and February, unlike in Japan.  相似文献

Age, growth, and reproductive characteristics of blackspot snapper Lutjanus fulviflammus around the Yaeyama Islands (24°N, 124°E) in southern Japan were investigated between 2010 and 2014. Samples were caught by angling or purchased monthly at fish markets to cover all size ranges and seasons. Specimens consisted of 280 females (176–347 mm fork length), 177 males (193–325 mm), and 17 juveniles (42–128 mm). Spawning was confirmed from April to August by the presence of postovulatory follicles, which, based on the occurrence of yolked oocytes possibly also occurred in March and September. Maximum fork length and age in the specimens around Yaeyama Islands were 347 mm and 23 years for females and 325 mm and 21 years for males. These results were compared to those reported previously for the species in other regions by standardized criteria. Possible spawning duration of 7 months in the population around Yaeyama Islands is similar to that in New Caledonia (22°S, 5 months) and Okinawa Island (26°N, 6 months), but shorter than that in Tanzania (8°S) and the southern Arabian Gulf (25°N) (~12 months). The maximum body sizes and ages around Yaeyama Islands are also similar to the populations in New Caledonia and Okinawa Island (>300 mm FL, >20 years old), but larger/older than those in Tanzania and the southern Arabian Gulf (<300 mm FL, <20 years old). These differences are thought to reflect water temperature, i.e. spawning duration is shorter in lower temperature regions (annual mean <26°C, New Caledonia, Okinawa Island, Yaeyama Islands) than in higher temperature regions (annual mean >27°C, Tanzania, southern Arabian Gulf). Subsequently, a shorter spawning duration extends the life‐span as well as the maximum body size. Longevity of blackspot snapper is thought to be negatively correlated with the duration of the spawning season.  相似文献

The Rupert River is one of the largest tributaries on the east coast of James Bay. Lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) is present all along the main stem where several spawning grounds have been located, four of which are major spawning grounds that have been studied at km 216, 281, 290 and 362. The total number of drifting larvae was estimated with drift nets set along transverse transects at km 212, 276, and km 287 from 2007 to 2009, and at km 361 in 2008 and 2009, using a new technique, namely, a Doppler current meter to measure water velocity within transect sub‐sections corresponding to Voronoï polygons. There was a substantial, persistent difference in the number of larvae produced by the four main spawning areas. On average, the most productive site (km 276) produced over five times more larvae than the least productive site (km 361). Average estimated numbers were 41,194 at km 212, 176,840 at km 276, 106,212 at km 287, and 30,642 at km 361. Temporal variations were of much less amplitude than spatial differences. Between 2007 and 2009, interannual variations were not significant, except at km 212, despite differences in river flow during incubation and larval drift. The number of gravid females and the quality of spawning grounds would likely be the main factors influencing the total number of larvae. Vertical distribution of larvae is variable between sites and years, and shows a slight tendency for larvae to be more surface oriented. Higher flow near the surface would partly explain larger surface drifting of larvae. Transverse distribution is uneven and often associated with the location of the spawning grounds and the river flow. Given the uneven vertical and transverse distribution of larvae, an effective sampling strategy should cover the complete water column and full river width. Where depth exceeds 3 m, at least two stacked nets are recommended. In large rivers, filtering close to 1% of total river flow should result in acceptable confidence intervals, allowing a good comparison of the number of larvae in space and time.  相似文献

The morphological development, including the fins, body proportions and pigmentation, of laboratory-reared larval and juvenile Pangasianodon hypophthalmus was described and their behavioral features were observed under rearing conditions. Body lengths (BL) of larvae and juveniles were 3.0 ± 0.2 (mean ± SD) mm just after hatching, and 12.9 ± 1.1 mm on day 13, reaching 23.4 ± 1.8 mm on day 25 after hatching. Aggregate fin ray numbers (for caudal fin, principal soft ray number) attained their full complements in specimens larger than 12.8 mm BL. Notochord flexion began in yolksac larvae on day 0 (10.5 h after hatching), with teeth buds and barbels appearing with jaw formation in yolksac flexion larvae on day 1. Melanophores on the body increased with growth, with a broad vertical band forming on the lateral line and an oblique band extending from above the pectoral fin base towards the forepart of the anal fin during the postflexion larval and juvenile stages. Body proportions became relatively constant in juveniles, except for maxillary barbel length (MBL), which continued to decrease. Yolksac flexion larvae started feeding on day 2 with the onset of intense cannibalism. Yolks were completely absorbed by day 3, and cannibalism ended by day 6. Subsequently, fish displayed a schooling behavior with growth, preferring relatively dark areas during the juvenile stage.  相似文献

Harvested populations of the sea urchin (Paracentrotus lividus) from the northwestern (Carreço) and southwestern (Aljezur) coasts of Portugal were surveyed to describe the species reproductive cycle and assess possible relationships with geographical location and seawater temperature. Individuals were sampled monthly to analyze gonad histology, mean gonadal index (GI), and gonadosomatic index (GSI) during 2 consecutive years (November 2010–November 2012). Both populations presented an annual reproductive cycle, with synchronous gonad maturation and gamete release between sexes. Gonad maturation occurred throughout autumn–winter, followed by a single but prolonged spawning season during spring–summer. The duration of the spawning season displayed a latitudinal gradient likely related to the north–south increasing trend in seawater temperature, with the northwestern population (Carreço) exhibiting a shorter spawning period compared to the southwestern population (Aljezur). The timing and duration of the spawning season was compared with several populations throughout the distributional range of P. lividus in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. In the population from Carreço, the size at first sexual maturity (test diameter = 35.9 mm) was considerably smaller than the minimum conservation reference size (MCRS) of 50 mm test diameter legally established for P. lividus. This study confirms that sustainable exploitation depends on harvesters’ awareness of and compliance with the MCRS and provides useful information for the eventual establishment of a closed season in the harvesting of P. lividus.  相似文献

The dusky flathead (Platycephalus fuscus) is an important teleost harvested by recreational and commercial fishers throughout its endemic distribution along eastern Australia. This study indicates that the species has an extended spawning period throughout the austral summer, with females in spawning condition occurring in lower estuarine and coastal waters. Total length (L50) and age (A50) at which 50% (±1 SE) of the population was mature was 31.72 (±1.08) cm TL and 1.22 (±0.44) years for males and 56.75 (±0.60) cm TL and 4.55 (±0.13) years for females. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters differed significantly between sexes; females grew faster and attained a greater maximum TL and age than males. The largest female was 98.5 cm TL (7.5 kg), and the oldest 16 years, whereas the largest male was 61.5 cm TL (1.58 kg) and 11 years of age. A tag‐and‐release study identified the exchange of sub‐adult and mature‐sized individuals among estuaries. Determinations of length‐based management regulations for the species are compounded by the large gender‐based differences in growth and length‐at‐maturity. Current minimum legal lengths of 30–40 cm TL protect approximately 3–9% of the female spawning population. Alternative management options, including harvest slot sizes, need to be investigated and tested.  相似文献

We assessed reproductive status, fecundity, egg size, and spawning dynamics of shovelnose sturgeon Scaphirhynchus platorynchus in the lower Platte River. Shovelnose sturgeon were captured throughout each year during 2011 and 2012 using a multi‐gear approach designed to collect a variety of fish of varying sizes and ages. Fish were collected monthly for a laboratory assessment of reproductive condition. Female shovelnose sturgeon reached fork length at 50% maturity (FL50) at 547 mm and at a minimum length of 449 mm. The average female spawning cycle was 3–5 years. Mean egg count for adult females was 16 098 ± 1103 (SE), and mean egg size was 2.401 ± 0.051 (SE) mm. Total fecundity was positively correlated with length (r2 = 0.728; P < 0.001), mass (r2 = 0.896; P < 0.001), and age (r2 = 0.396; P = 0.029). However, fish size and age did not correlate to egg size (P > 0.05). Male shovelnose sturgeon reached FL50 at 579 mm and at a minimum length of 453 mm. The average male spawning cycle was 1–2 years. Reproductively viable male and female sturgeon occurred during the spring (March–May) and autumn (September–October) in both years, indicating spring and potential autumn spawning events. Shovelnose sturgeon in the lower Platte River are maturing at a shorter length and younger age compared to populations elsewhere. Although it is unknown if the change is plastic or evolutionary, unfavorable environmental conditions or over‐harvest may lead to hastened declines compared to other systems.  相似文献

Specimens of the deep‐sea sipunculan Phascolosoma turnerae were retrieved over a 5‐year period from fibrous collectors placed for various time intervals at a depth of 520 m in the Tongue of the Ocean, Bahamas. Sipunculans removed from the collectors were counted, weighed, and maintained in the laboratory at 14°C, where they were monitored for gametogenic activity, spawning, development, and growth. In a 2‐year study of seasonality, worms were most abundant in collectors retrieved in the spring and summer, and least abundant in the fall. Small animals (<0.01 g) were present in all seasons and represented ≥70% of the animals in winter collections. Large specimens (>0.16 g) were found from May through August, but in markedly lower frequencies than small animals. Over the entire study, spawning was observed in the laboratory from April through August. We inferred from analyses of size frequencies, growth, and spawning seasonality that settlement of the larvae occurs primarily from November through April and that oceanic larval life could be as short as 7 months and as long as 12–14 months. Cleavage of fertilized eggs, as observed from laboratory spawnings, was spiral and holoblastic, resulting in a trochophore that transformed into a typical planktotrophic pelagosphera larva at 21 d. A few larvae survived as long as 2 months in the laboratory. This is the first study of biological processes in living sipunculans from the deep sea, and one of the first studies of living deep‐sea wood dwellers.  相似文献

We investigated the breeding season and size at maturation and described the morphology of newly released Hippichthys spicifer larvae collected from the estuaries of four rivers on northern Okinawa-jima Island, southern Japan. The minimum size of brooding males was 108 mm standard length (SL). The smallest mature female, as estimated from gonadosomatic index (GSI) analysis and histological observations of gonads, was about 100 mm SL. Histological observations showed the gonad of H. spicifer to be a cylindrical tube with a sequential pattern of follicle development and a single germinal ridge. We surmised that the breeding season is year-round, as shown by monthly changes in female GSI, gonad histology, and monthly changes in the occurrence of brooding males. The monthly changes in female GSI and proportions of brooding males were small in winter. The number of eggs in the male brood pouch ranged from 114 to 1,764 (604.4 ± 322.8, mean ± standard deviation; n = 25). The SL of the released larvae was 9.9 mm. All fins except the pectoral fins were formed, the body was elongated, and the developmental stage was similar to that of other Urophori species. The smallest individual present in the mangrove areas of estuaries was 78.0 mm SL.  相似文献

Growth, reproduction and abundance traits of the invasive icefish Neosalanx taihuensis Chen, 1956 were investigated monthly from July 2009 to May 2011 in Lake Erhai on the Yunnan‐Guizhou Plateau, south‐western China, in order to explore the changes in life‐history traits after translocation. The results indicated that the icefish exhibited obvious plasticity in growth and reproduction traits. Growth of the fish in Lake Erhai was faster than that in native waters and in other translocated reservoirs. By fitting the von Bertalanffy growth model to the data, it was estimated that icefish obtain an asymptotic size of 96.12 mm, a K of 1.61, and a t0 of ‐0.26; the calculated overall growth performance index φ′ was 4.17. The strategy of reproduction changed from multiple‐ to single‐spawning. The spawning period was from October to December with the absolute and relative fecundities of 1250 ± 169 eggs per ind and 2557 ± 245 eggs per g, respectively. Plasticity in icefish growth and reproduction in Lake Erhai greatly facilitated its population establishment, making it one of the most abundant fish species. The icefish invasion in the lake may be one of the reasons for the decrease or extinction of native fish species populations, and some measures for the control of this invasive fish are suggested.  相似文献

The present study describes the length‐weight relationships (LWRs), length‐length relationships (LLRs), Fulton's condition factor (KF), size at first sexual maturity, spawning season, sex ratio and fecundity of the Morari Aspidoparia morar (Hamilton, 1822) (Cyprinidae). Sampling was done using traditional fishing gear jhaki jal (cast net) from July 2010 to June 2011. Total length (TL), fork length (FL) and standard length (SL) were measured with digital slide calipers. Individual body weight (BW) and gonad weight (GW) were determined to an accuracy of 0.01 g for all specimens. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) was calculated and size at first maturity for males and females estimated using GSI and TL as indicators. Female ≥ size at first maturity was used to determine fecundity. A total of 1200 specimens (males = 552, females = 648) ranging from 4.06–12.84 cm TL and 0.53–16.75 g BW were analyzed. The overall coefficient b for the LWR indicated positive allometric growth (>3.00) in males and isometric growth in females (~ 3.00). ancova (analysis of covariance) revealed significant differences between males and females (P < 0.001). All LLRs were highly correlated (r2 > 0.973, P < 0.001). Sizes at first sexual maturity for males and females were 6.0 and 7.0 cm TL, respectively. KF changed little throughout the year and GSI peaked in November to April, indicating the spawning season (GSImax = 15.0 in females, 2.0 in males). Mature females were dominant during the entire spawning season except in April. Mean total fecundity was 6700 ± 3500, ranging from 1860 to 19680. In addition, relative fecundity ranged from 190 to 1200 (mean 560 ± 235) in the Jamuna River. To ensure sustainable management of this species, the protection of mature individuals during the peak spawning season is highly recommended.  相似文献

Morphological development, including that of fins, labyrinth organ, body proportions, and pigmentation, in laboratory-hatched larval and juvenile snakeskin gourami Trichogaster pectoralis is described. Body lengths (BL; mean ± SD) of larvae and juveniles were 2.3 ± 0.1 mm just after hatching (day 0) and 8.2 ± 0.6 mm on day 22, reaching 14.1 ± 2.3 mm on day 48. Aggregate fin ray numbers attained their full complements in juveniles >11.8 mm BL. Preflexion larvae started feeding on day 2 following upper and lower jaw formation, the yolk being completely absorbed by day 12. Subsequently, oblong conical teeth appeared in postflexion larvae >8.2 mm BL (day 16). Melanophores on the body increased with growth, with a large dark spot developing on the lateral midline at the caudal margin of the body in flexion larvae >6.1 mm BL. Subsequently, a broad vertical dark band from the eye to the caudal peduncle developed in postflexion larvae >8.9 mm BL. Proportions of head and pre-anal lengths became constant in postflexion larvae greater than ca. 9–10 mm BL, whereas those of maximum body depth, eye diameter, and snout length failed to stabilize in fish of the size examined in this study. First soft fin ray of the pelvic fin elongated, reaching over 40% BL. The labyrinth organ differentiated in postflexion larvae >7.4 mm BL (day 22). Comparisons of larval and juvenile morphology with another anabantoid species Anabas testudineus were also made, revealing several distinct differences, particularly in the numbers of myomeres and fin rays in the dorsal/anal fins, mouth location and body shape.  相似文献
