Objective: It is uncertain whether there is an increased retinal vessel density in patients with thyroid-associated ophthalmology (TAO), or if ocular hemodynamic changes are associated with their vision. Many techniques have been applied to analyze ocular hemodynamic changes in TAO patients; however, they suffer from limitations. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is more sensitive to hemodynamic changes. We performed OCTA to determine whether there is an increased retinal vessel density in TAO patients, and investigate associations with their vision. Methods: Twenty TAO patients (right eye) and 20 normal controls (right eye) were recruited for the study. Three-dimensional OCTA images were generated with 6 × 6-mm angiographic OCT scans of the superficial retinal layer (SRL) and deeper retinal layer (DRL) of the macular retina for each eye. We calculated the microvascular (MIR) and macrovascular (MAR) densities and compared MIR, MAR, and total MIR (TMI) density in the healthy control and TAO groups separately. We used the annular partition (C1–C6) and quadrant partition method to analyze retinal vessel density alterations. Correlation analyses were used to examine the association of MIR density and visual acuity. Results: In the SRL, STMI (superficial TMI) and SMIR (superficial MIR) density increased in the macular area of TAO patients (P<.05). For the DRL, the density of DMIR (deeper MIR) increased in macular area only (P<.05). However, with the annular partition method, TAO patients showed significantly increased SMIR density in the C1 and C2 regions (P<.05), and increased DMIR density only in the C1 region (P<.05). In the SRL, the correlation coefficient of the STMI/SMIR density in the TAO group was -0.538 (r = -0.538, P =.032), and visual acuity was -0.624 (r = -0.624, P =.010).Conclusion: OCTA findings suggest that active TAO patients present with an increased retinal MIR density. Moreover, increased macular STMI and SMIR density might affect visual acuity.Abbreviations: CDI = color Doppler imaging; DMIR = deeper MIR; DRL = deeper retinal layer; EDV = end diastolic velocity; FAZ = foveal avascular zone; GO = Graves ophthalmopathy; MAR = macrovascular; MIR = microvascular; OCT = optical coherence tomography; OCTA = optical coherence tomography angiography; RI = resistance index; ROC = receiver operating characteristic; SMIR = superficial MIR; SOV = superior ophthalmic vein; SRL = superficial retinal layer; SSADA = split-spectrum amplitude-decor-relation angiography; STMI = superficial TMI; TAO = thyroid-associated ophthalmology; TMI = total MIR  相似文献

ObjectiveTo evaluate magnetic resonance imaging parameters, T2 signal intensity ratios (SIRs), and normalized apparent diffusion coefficients (n-ADC) of the extraocular muscles (EOMs) in the identification of different stages of Graves’ ophthalmopathy (GO) and to find out the correlation of T2-SIRs and n-ADC values with disease changes after anti-inflammatory treatment.MethodsAltogether, 43 patients (86 orbits) were enrolled and classified into “active” or “inactive” stages by clinical activity score (CAS). Twenty-three (53.5%) patients received anti-inflammatory treatment and underwent a follow-up evaluation. Fifteen age- and gender-matched control participants (30 orbits) were included. T2-SIRs and n-ADC values of EOMs were calculated among GO and healthy controls and were correlated with CAS. Changes in these parameters were also evaluated before and after anti-inflammatory treatment.ResultsMean T2-SIRs and n-ADC values were both significantly higher in GO patients than in controls and higher in active GO than in inactive GO. In the inactive stage, n-ADC values of inferior rectus muscles were still higher than those in healthy controls. Both T2-SIRs and n-ADC values decreased after intravenous steroid pulse therapy. The cutoff value of pretreatment n-ADC was 1.780 to detect stages with specificity of 93.7% and sensitivity of 48.3% (P = .035).ConclusionT2-SIRs and n-ADC values are valuable magnetic resonance imaging indicators of the inflammatory activity in GO by detecting involvement of EOMs. They are also ideal tools to monitor the efficacy of anti-inflammatory treatment in patients with active stage GO. n-ADC values, when combined with CAS, can be promising predictive factors in the detection of stages of diseases.  相似文献

Objective

To investigate the feasibility of gadolinium (Gd) contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance lymphangiography (MRL) in breast cancer patients within a typical clinical setting, and to establish a Gd-MRL protocol and identify potential MRL biomarkers for differentiating metastatic from non-metastatic lymph nodes.

Materials and Methods

32 patients with unilateral breast cancer were enrolled and divided into 4 groups of 8 patients. Groups I, II, and III received 1.0, 0.5, and 0.3 ml of intradermal contrast; group IV received two 0.5 ml doses of intradermal contrast. MRL images were acquired on a 3.0 T system and evaluated independently by two radiologists for the number and size of enhancing lymph nodes, lymph node contrast uptake kinetics, lymph vessel size, and contrast enhancement patterns within lymph nodes.

Results

Group III patients had a statistically significant decrease in the total number of enhancing axillary lymph nodes and lymphatic vessels compared to all other groups. While group IV patients had a statistically significant faster time to reach the maximum peak enhancement over group I and II (by 3 minutes), there was no other statistically significant difference between imaging results between groups I, II, and IV. 27 out of 128 lymphatic vessels (21%) showed dilatation, and all patients with dilated lymphatic vessels were pathologically proven to have metastases. Using the pattern of enhancement defects as the sole criterion for identifying metastatic lymph nodes during Gd-MRL interpretation, and using histopathology as the gold standard, the sensitivity and specificity were estimated to be 86% and 95%, respectively.

Conclusion

Gd-MRL can adequately depict the lymphatic system, can define sentinel lymph nodes, and has the potential to differentiate between metastatic and non-metastatic lymph nodes in breast cancer patients.  相似文献

Background

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is sensitive to early atherosclerotic changes such as positive remodeling in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). We assessed prevalence, quality, and extent of coronary atherosclerosis in a group of healthy subjects compared to patients with confirmed CAD.

Methodology

Twenty-two patients with confirmed CAD (15M, 7F, mean age 60.4±10.4 years) and 26 healthy subjects without history of CAD (11M, 15F, mean age 56.1±4.4 years) underwent MRI of the right coronary artery (RCA) and vessel wall (MR-CVW) on a clinical 1.5T MR-scanner. Wall thickness measurements of both groups were compared.

Principal Findings

Stenoses of the RCA (both < and ≥50% on CAG) were present in all patients. In 21/22 patients, stenoses detected at MRI corresponded to stenoses detected with conventional angiography. In 19/26 asymptomatic subjects, there was visible luminal narrowing in the MR luminography images. Fourteen of these subjects demonstrated corresponding increase in vessel wall thickness. In 4/26 asymptomatic subjects, vessel wall thickening without luminal narrowing was present. Maximum and mean wall thicknesses in patients were significantly higher (2.16 vs 1.92 mm, and 1.38 vs 1.22 mm, both p<0.05).

Conclusions

In this cohort of middle-aged individuals, both patients with stable angina and angiographically proven coronary artery disease, as well as age-matched asymptomatic subjects. exhibited coronary vessel wall thickening detectable with MR coronary vessel wall imaging. Maximum and mean wall thicknesses were significantly higher in patients. The vast majority of asymptomatic subjects had either positive remodeling without luminal narrowing, or non-significant stenosis.

Objective: Transsphenoidal surgery (TSS) is a first-line treatment for Cushing disease (CD). However, a subset of patients with CD have no visible adenoma on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and whether MRI results affect surgical outcomes is controversial. The aim of this study was to compare the surgical outcomes of CD patients with negative MRI findings to those of patients with positive MRI findings. Methods: The clinical features and outcomes of CD patients who underwent TSS between January 2000 and July 2019 at Peking Union Medical College Hospital were collected from medical records. The clinical, endocrinologic, histopathologic, surgical outcomes, and a minimum 12-month follow-up of 125 consecutive CD patients with negative MRI findings were compared with those of 1,031 consecutive CD patients with MRI-visible adenomas. Results: The total remission rate was 73.3% after TSS, and 11.8% of patients experienced recurrence. Of 1,031 patients with MRI-visible adenomas, postoperative remission was achieved in 762 patients (73.9%), and the recurrence of CD was observed in 94 (12.3%) patients. Of the 125 patients with negative MRI findings, postoperative remission was achieved in 85 (68%) patients, and recurrence was observed in 6 (7.1%) patients. The remission rate and recurrence rate were not significantly different between patients with negative MRI findings and those with positive MRI findings (all P>.05). The remission rate was not significantly different between patients who did or did not undergo bilateral inferior petrosal sinus sampling (BIPSS) in patients with negative MRI findings (P>.05). In the patients with negative MRI findings who underwent BIPSS, the remission rate of patients with positive BIPSS results was not different from that in patients with negative BIPSS results (P>.05). The lack of prior TSS, the detection of a tumor during operation, and pathologic confirmation of adenoma were associated with a higher surgical remission rate in patients with negative MRI findings (all P<.05). Similar results were observed in the patients with positive MRI findings (all P<.05). In addition, the major perioperative complications, including intraoperative cerebrospinal fluid leakage, hypopituitarism, and transient diabetes insipidus, were not related to the MRI results (all P>.05).Conclusion: The remission rate and recurrence rate were not different between patients with negative MRI findings and those with positive MRI findings. If CD is clearly diagnosed according to biochemical tests, radiologic examinations, and BIPSS, we recommend TSS as the first-line treatment for patients, even if the MRI results are negative.  相似文献

Objectives

Metabolic changes in the substantia nigra of patients with Parkinson''s disease were previously investigated in different molecular-pathological examinations. The aim of our study was the in vivo measurement of these alterations using three-dimensional magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging.

Methods

21 patients with Parkinson''s disease and 24 controls were examined using magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging at 3 Tesla. The spectra of rostral and caudal substantia nigra regions were analyzed using LCModel. For spectral fitting, an adjusted basis data set with pathology-specific metabolites and macromolecules was used to better reproduce the in vivo spectra. To assess differences between both groups more accurately, especially in metabolites at lower concentrations, group-averaged spectra were evaluated in addition to the analysis of individual data.

Results

We found significantly decreased N-acetylaspartate, choline, creatine, myo-inositol, glutathione and dopamine concentrations in patients with Parkinson''s disease compared to controls, whereas glutamine+glutamate, γ-aminobutyric acid, and homovanillic acid were slightly increased. According to anatomical features, clear differences in the biochemical profiles were found between rostral and caudal substantia nigra voxels in both groups.

Conclusions

Reduced N-acetylaspartate and dopamine concentrations result from progressive degeneration of dopamine-producing neurons within the substantia nigra pars compacta. Decreased creatine levels can be interpreted as impaired energy metabolism due to mitochondrial dysfunction. Lower glutathione concentrations might be a cause or consequence of oxidative stress. Furthermore, slightly increased glutamine+glutamate and γ-aminobutyric acid levels are expected based on post mortem data in Parkinson''s disease. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first non-invasive confirmation of these metabolic changes.  相似文献

Purpose

The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic performance of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) and Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PIRADS) score in predicting pathologic features in a cohort of patients eligible for active surveillance who underwent radical prostatectomy.

Methods

A total of 223 patients who fulfilled the criteria for “Prostate Cancer Research International: Active Surveillance”, were included. Mp–1.5 Tesla MRI examination staging with endorectal coil was performed at least 6–8 weeks after TRUS-guided biopsy. In all patients, the likelihood of the presence of cancer was assigned using PIRADS score between 1 and 5. Outcomes of interest were: Gleason score upgrading, extra capsular extension (ECE), unfavorable prognosis (occurrence of both upgrading and ECE), large tumor volume (≥0.5ml), and seminal vesicle invasion (SVI). Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves and Decision Curve Analyses (DCA) were performed for models with and without inclusion of PIRADS score.

Results

Multivariate analysis demonstrated the association of PIRADS score with upgrading (P<0.0001), ECE (P<0.0001), unfavorable prognosis (P<0.0001), and large tumor volume (P = 0.002). ROC curves and DCA showed that models including PIRADS score resulted in greater net benefit for almost all the outcomes of interest, with the only exception of SVI.

Conclusions

mpMRI and PIRADS scoring are feasible tools in clinical setting and could be used as decision-support systems for a more accurate selection of patients eligible for AS.  相似文献

Background

Temperatures below the freezing point of water and the ensuing ice crystal formation pose serious challenges to cell structure and function. Consequently, species living in seasonally cold environments have evolved a multitude of strategies to reorganize their cellular architecture and metabolism, and the underlying mechanisms are crucial to our understanding of life. In multicellular organisms, and poikilotherm animals in particular, our knowledge about these processes is almost exclusively due to invasive studies, thereby limiting the range of conclusions that can be drawn about intact living systems.

Methodology

Given that non-destructive techniques like 1H Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging and spectroscopy have proven useful for in vivo investigations of a wide range of biological systems, we aimed at evaluating their potential to observe cold adaptations in living insect larvae. Specifically, we chose two cold-hardy insect species that frequently serve as cryobiological model systems–the freeze-avoiding gall moth Epiblema scudderiana and the freeze-tolerant gall fly Eurosta solidaginis.

Results

In vivo MR images were acquired from autumn-collected larvae at temperatures between 0°C and about −70°C and at spatial resolutions down to 27 µm. These images revealed three-dimensional (3D) larval anatomy at a level of detail currently not in reach of other in vivo techniques. Furthermore, they allowed visualization of the 3D distribution of the remaining liquid water and of the endogenous cryoprotectants at subzero temperatures, and temperature-weighted images of these distributions could be derived. Finally, individual fat body cells and their nuclei could be identified in intact frozen Eurosta larvae.

Conclusions

These findings suggest that high resolution MR techniques provide for interesting methodological options in comparative cryobiological investigations, especially in vivo.  相似文献

Purpose

The dopamine hypothesis suggests that excessive dopamine release results in the symptoms of schizophrenia. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the dopaminergic and noradrenergic neurons using 3-T neuromelanin magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with schizophrenia and healthy control subjects.

Methods

We prospectively examined 52 patients with schizophrenia (M: F = 27∶25, mean age, 35 years) and age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Using a 3T MRI unit, we obtained oblique T1-weighted axial images perpendicular to the brainstem. We measured the signal intensity and area for the substantia nigra (SNc), midbrain tegmentum, locus ceruleus (LC), and pons. We then calculated the contrast ratios (CR) for the SNc (CRSN) and LC (CRLC), which were compared between patients and healthy controls using unpaired t-tests.

Results

The SNc and LC were readily identified in both patients and healthy controls as areas with high signal intensities in the posterior part of the cerebral peduncle and in the upper pontine tegmentum. The CRSN values in patients were significantly higher than those in healthy controls (10.89±2.37 vs. 9.6±2.36, p<0.01). We observed no difference in the CRLC values between the patients and healthy controls (14.21±3.5 vs. 13.44±3.37, p = 0.25). Furthermore, there was no difference in area of the SNc and LC between schizophrenia patients and controls.

Conclusions

Neuromelanin MRI might reveal increased signal intensity in the SNc of patients with schizophrenia. Our results indicate the presence of excessive dopamine products in the SNc of these patients.  相似文献

Under magnetic resonance (MR) guidance, high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is capable of precise and accurate delivery of thermal dose to tissues. Given the excellent soft tissue imaging capabilities of MRI, but the lack of data on the correlation of MRI findings to histology following HIFU, we sought to examine tumor response to HIFU ablation to determine whether there was a correlation between histological findings and common MR imaging protocols in the assessment of the extent of thermal damage. Female FVB mice (n = 34), bearing bilateral neu deletion tumors, were unilaterally insonated under MR guidance, with the contralateral tumor as a control. Between one and five spots (focal size 0.5 × 0.5 × 2.5 mm3) were insonated per tumor with each spot receiving approximately 74.2 J of acoustic energy over a period of 7 seconds. Animals were then imaged on a 7T MR scanner with several protocols. T1 weighted images (with and without gadolinium contrast) were collected in addition to a series of T2 weighted and diffusion weighted images (for later reconstruction into T2 and apparent diffusion coefficient maps), immediately following ablation and at 6, 24, and 48 hours post treatment. Animals were sacrificed at each time point and both insonated/treated and contralateral tumors removed and stained for NADH-diaphorase, caspase 3, or with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). We found the area of non-enhancement on contrast enhanced T1 weighted imaging immediately post ablation correlated with the region of tissue receiving a thermal dose CEM43 ≥ 240 min. Moreover, while both tumor T2 and apparent diffusion coefficient values changed from pre-ablation values, contrast enhanced T1 weighted images appeared to be more senstive to changes in tissue viability following HIFU ablation.  相似文献

Purpose

To develop a diffusion-tensor-imaging (DTI) protocol that is sensitive to the complex diffusion and perfusion properties of the healthy and malignant pancreas tissues.

Materials and Methods

Twenty-eight healthy volunteers and nine patients with pancreatic-ductal-adenocacinoma (PDAC), were scanned at 3T with T2-weighted and DTI sequences. Healthy volunteers were also scanned with multi-b diffusion-weighted-imaging (DWI), whereas a standard clinical protocol complemented the PDAC patients’ scans. Image processing at pixel resolution yielded parametric maps of three directional diffusion coefficients λ1, λ2, λ3, apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), and fractional anisotropy (FA), as well as a λ1-vector map, and a main diffusion-direction map.

Results

DTI measurements of healthy pancreatic tissue at b-values 0,500 s/mm2yielded: λ1 = (2.65±0.35)×10−3, λ2 = (1.87±0.22)×10−3, λ3 = (1.20±0.18)×10−3, ADC = (1.91±0.22)×10−3 (all in mm2/s units) and FA = 0.38±0.06. Using b-values of 100,500 s/mm2 led to a significant reduction in λ1, λ2, λ3 and ADC (p<.0001) and a significant increase (p<0.0001) in FA. The reduction in the diffusion coefficients suggested a contribution of a fast intra-voxel-incoherent-motion (IVIM) component at b≤100 s/mm2, which was confirmed by the multi-b DWI results. In PDACs, λ1, λ2, λ3 and ADC in both 0,500 s/mm2 and 100,500 s/mm2 b-values sets, as well as the reduction in these diffusion coefficients between the two sets, were significantly lower in comparison to the distal normal pancreatic tissue, suggesting higher cellularity and diminution of the fast-IVIM component in the cancer tissue.

Conclusion

DTI using two reference b-values 0 and 100 s/mm2 enabled characterization of the water diffusion and anisotropy of the healthy pancreas, taking into account a contribution of IVIM. The reduction in the diffusion coefficients of PDAC, as compared to normal pancreatic tissue, and the smaller change in these coefficients in PDAC when the reference b-value was modified from 0 to 100 s/mm2, helped identifying the presence of malignancy.  相似文献

Background

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is considered the mainstay imaging investigation in patients suspected of lumbar disc herniations. Both imaging and clinical findings determine the final decision of surgery. The objective of this study was to assess MRI observer variation in patients with sciatica who are potential candidates for lumbar disc surgery.

Methods

Patients for this study were potential candidates (n = 395) for lumbar disc surgery who underwent MRI to assess eligibility for a randomized trial. Two neuroradiologists and one neurosurgeon independently evaluated all MRIs. A four point scale was used for both probability of disc herniation and root compression, ranging from definitely present to definitely absent. Multiple characteristics of the degenerated disc herniation were scored. For inter-agreement analysis absolute agreements and kappa coefficients were used. Kappa coefficients were categorized as poor (<0.00), slight (0.00–0.20), fair (0.21–0.40), moderate (0.41–0.60), substantial (0.61–0.80) and excellent (0.81–1.00) agreement.

Results

Excellent agreement was found on the affected disc level (kappa range 0.81–0.86) and the nerve root that most likely caused the sciatic symptoms (kappa range 0.86–0.89). Interobserver agreement was moderate to substantial for the probability of disc herniation (kappa range 0.57–0.77) and the probability of nerve root compression (kappa range 0.42–0.69). Absolute pairwise agreement among the readers ranged from 90–94% regarding the question whether the probability of disc herniation on MRI was above or below 50%. Generally, moderate agreement was observed regarding the characteristics of the symptomatic disc level and of the herniated disc.

Conclusion

The observer variation of MRI interpretation in potential candidates for lumbar disc surgery is satisfactory regarding characteristics most important in decision for surgery. However, there is considerable variation between observers in specific characteristics of the symptomatic disc level and herniated disc.  相似文献

Myocarditis is an inflammation of the myocardium, but only ~10% of those affected show clinical manifestations of the disease. To study the immune events of myocardial injuries, various mouse models of myocarditis have been widely used. This study involved experimental autoimmune myocarditis (EAM) induced with cardiac myosin heavy chain (Myhc)-α 334-352 in A/J mice; the affected animals develop lymphocytic myocarditis but with no apparent clinical signs. In this model, the utility of magnetic resonance microscopy (MRM) as a non-invasive modality to determine the cardiac structural and functional changes in animals immunized with Myhc-α 334-352 is shown. EAM and healthy mice were imaged using a 9.4 T (400 MHz) 89 mm vertical core bore scanner equipped with a 4 cm millipede radio-frequency imaging probe and 100 G/cm triple axis gradients. Cardiac images were acquired from anesthetized animals using a gradient-echo-based cine pulse sequence, and the animals were monitored by respiration and pulse oximetry. The analysis revealed an increase in the thickness of the ventricular wall in EAM mice, with a corresponding decrease in the interior diameter of ventricles, when compared with healthy mice. The data suggest that morphological and functional changes in the inflamed hearts can be non-invasively monitored by MRM in live animals. In conclusion, MRM offers an advantage of assessing the progression and regression of myocardial injuries in diseases caused by infectious agents, as well as response to therapies.  相似文献

Objective: To explore incidental findings on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies of pediatric patients referred due to endocrine disorders. Methods: A retrospective, observational study conducted in a tertiary referral center. The neuroimaging database of 17,445 brain MRI studies of 11,011 pediatric patients were searched for cases with endocrine referrals and without medical history of malignancy, genetic syndromes, and/or neurologic comorbidities. This database was linked to the pediatric neurosurgical database. Clinical data were retrieved from medical files. Results: In total, 524 patients (50.2% males, mean age 8.5 ± 3.5 years) were referred to brain MRI due to growth disturbances (n = 313), pubertal disorders (n = 183), prolactin hypersecretion (n = 18), central diabetes insipidus (n = 8), and obesity (n = 1). Incidental findings were found in 128 (24.4%) cases. Chiari type 1 malformation was more prevalent in patients with growth disturbances (P<.001). Small pituitary cysts were observed in 20 (3.8%) patients, and pineal cysts in 25 (4.8%) patients, mostly girls (68%, P<.001). White matter lesions were diagnosed in 30 (5.7%) patients, none with clinical evidence of neurologic disease. Brain asymmetry without clinical significance and developmental venous anomalies were observed in 14 (2.7%) and 8 (1.5%) patients, respectively. Twelve patients were diagnosed with intracranial tumors, and 5 required surgical intervention for a histopathologic diagnosis of juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma (n = 3), choroid plexus papilloma (n = 1), or inconclusive (n = 1). The rest were managed conservatively. Conclusion: Incidental findings on brain MRIs of pediatric patients referred by endocrinologists are common and raise dilemmas. The spectrum ranges from structural disruptions to tumors. Decision-making is individualized and patient-centered.  相似文献

Objective

The pathophysiological mechanism of TD remains unknown. All previous studies, using the region-of-interest method, focused on basal ganglion areas, were with inconsistent results. This whole-brain voxel-based morphometry (VBM) study investigate the grey matter abnormality of TD and its correlates with clinical ratings.

Method

High resolution T1-weighted brain volumetric MRI from 25 schizophrenia patients with TD (TD group), 25 age-, gender-, and handedness-matched schizophrenia patients without TD (non-TD group), and 25 matched healthy subjects (NC group) were analyzed using a VBM approach. Clinical ratings included the Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS), Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS), and the Simpson-Angus Scale (SAS).

Results

The TD group had significantly smaller total gray matter volumes than the NC group (p = 0.05). Compared to the non-TD group, the TD group had significantly higher PANSS negative (p<0.001), SAS (p<0.001), and AIMS (p<0.001) scores; and smaller bilateral inferior frontal gyrus, which correlated negatively with the PANSS negative scores (r = −0.366, p<0.05); and smaller right superior frontal gyrus, which correlated negatively with AIMS scores (r = −0.399, p<0.001), and PANSS general score (r = −0.338, p<0.05).

Limitations

The cross-section design can’t separate the gray matter change to TD from the context of the illness of schizophrenia, although TD with more severe clinical psychopathology could be a phenotype.

Conclusions

The schizophrenia patients with TD had significantly reduced gray matter, mostly at the bilateral inferior frontal gyrus and the right superior frontal gyrus, which correlated with severity of clinical symptoms and involuntary movement, respectively.  相似文献

Mapping of the human brain by means of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is an emerging field in cognitive and clinical neuroscience. Current techniques to detect activated areas of the brain mostly proceed in two steps. First, conventional methods of correlation, regression, and time series analysis are used to assess activation by a separate, pixelwise comparison of the fMRI signal time courses to the reference function of a presented stimulus. Spatial aspects caused by correlations between neighboring pixels are considered in a separate second step, if at all. The aim of this article is to present hierarchical Bayesian approaches that allow one to simultaneously incorporate temporal and spatial dependencies between pixels directly in the model formulation. For reasons of computational feasibility, models have to be comparatively parsimonious, without oversimplifying. We introduce parametric and semiparametric spatial and spatiotemporal models that proved appropriate and illustrate their performance applied to visual fMRI data.  相似文献
