We studied the changes in amplitude of the first short latency positive potential (2.3 ± 0.3 msec, mean ± S.D.) of the direct cortical response (DCR) elicited by surface electrical stimulation of the motor cortex in anaesthetised baboons. Local cortical blood flow, measured by the hydrogen clearance method, was progressively reduced by acute middle cerebral artery occlusion and subsequent hypotension and was related to the amplitude of this potential. With flow levels greater than 25 ml/100 g/min the DCR was essentially unaffected, but it was lost with flows below 20 ml/100 g/min. These results indicate a threshold relationship between the generation of the electrical activity evoked in the cortical elements and local cortical flow, similar to that previously demonstrated for cortical somatosensory evoked potentials.  相似文献

The influence of seduxen (diazepam) on cortical potentials P300 evoked by neutral and emotional words was studied in adult subjects having life conflicts. The therapeutic dose of seduxen (10 mg) had no significant effect on the amplitude of the late positive cortical response P300 to neutral words. Seduxen depresses the emotional activation of the cerebral cortex; that is manifested in selective elimination of those changes in latency and amplitude of P300 wave which are observed in response to emotionally significant words. Under the action of seduxen, the interhemispheric difference in the latency of cortical response disappears due to latency increase in the right hemisphere.  相似文献

In vitro studies have supported the occurrence of cerebellar long-term depression (LTD), an interaction between the parallel fibers and Purkinje cells (PCs) that requires the combined activation of the parallel and climbing fibers. To demonstrate the existence of LTD in alert animals, we investigated the plasticity of local field potentials (LFPs) evoked by electrical stimulation of the whisker pad. The recorded LFP showed two major negative waves corresponding to trigeminal (broken into the N2 and N3 components) and cortical responses. PC unitary extracellular recording showed that N2 and N3 occurred concurrently with PC evoked simple spikes, followed by an evoked complex spike. Polarity inversion of the N3 component at the PC level and N3 amplitude reduction after electrical stimulation of the parallel fiber volley applied on the surface of the cerebellum 2 ms earlier strongly suggest that N3 was related to the parallel fiber-PC synapse activity. LFP measurements elicited by single whisker pad stimulus were performed before and after trains of electrical stimuli given at a frequency of 8 Hz for 10 min. We demonstrated that during this later situation, the stimulation of the PC by parallel and climbing fibers was reinforced. After 8-Hz stimulation, we observed long-term modifications (lasting at least 30 min) characterized by a specific decrease of the N3 amplitude accompanied by an increase of the N2 and N3 latency peaks. These plastic modifications indicated the existence of cerebellar LTD in alert animals involving both timing and synaptic modulations. These results corroborate the idea that LTD may underlie basic physiological functions related to calcium-dependent synaptic plasticity in the cerebellum.  相似文献

Auriculo-acupuncture electrostimulation (AES) (15 H2) decreased the amplitude of somatosensory evoked potential (EP) in response to tooth pulp electrostimulation in 64% of acupuncture-sensitive unanesthetized rabbits and didn't induce the changes of EP in 36% of animals (acupuncture-resistant rabbits). The systemic naloxone (0.2 mg/kg) injection reversed the AES analgetic effect and induced the hyperalgesic one in acupuncture-sensitive rabbits but induced the analgetic effect in acupuncture-resistant animals. It has been suggested that the differences of individual characteristics of endogenous opioid system determined different naloxone action in acupuncture-sensitive and acupuncture-resistant rabbits.  相似文献

Variations in evoked potentials utilizing a photic stimulus in a sample of psychiatric patients compared to a healthy sample were evaluated. A group of patients diagnosed as schizophrenic was tested against a sample of healthy volunteers in a trial combining visual evoked potentials and a simultaneous cognitive processing. The stimulus was a checkerboard pattern presented under three different conditions. The results indicate diminished P100 and lack the reactivity associated with cognitive processes in schizophrenic group. The P200 component also lacked, in the inpatient group the changes associated with the performance of the trial. Finally the multiple P300 component was shortened in latency and decreased in amplitude in the schizophrenia group. Besides, P300 interhemispheric shifts related to trials, were commonly inverted in schizophrenics. Results are interpreted as a lacked interhemispheric coordination in schizophrenics, rather than a fixed hemispheric alteration. Likewise, an attenuation in processing from specific cortical areas to association cortex is concluded.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare cerebral evoked potentials following selective activation of Aβ and Aδ fibers. In 15 healthy subjects, Aβ fibers were activated by electrical stimulation of the left radial nerve at the wrist. Aδ fibers were activated by short painful radian heat pulses, applied to the dorsum of the left hand by a CO2 laser. Evoked potentials were recorded with 15–27 scalp electrodes, evenly distributed over both hemispheres (bandpass 0.5–200 Hz). The laser-evoked potentials exhibited a component with a mean peak latency of 176 msec (N170). Its scalp topography showed a parieto-temporal maximum contralateral to the stimulus side. In contrast, the subsequent vertex negativity (N240), which appeared about 60 msec later, had a symmetrical scalp distribution. Electrically evoked potentials showed a component at 110 msec (N110), that had a topography similar to the laser-evoked N170. The topographies of the N170 and N110 suggest that they may both be generated in the secondary somatosensory cortex. There was no component in the electrically evoked potential that had a comparable interpeak latency to the following vertex potential: for N60 it was longer, for N110 it was shorter. On the other hand, in the laser-evoked potentials no component could be identified the topography of which corresponded to the primary cortical component N20 following electrical stimulation.  相似文献

In the rat, nicotine bitartrate (100 micrograms/kg) by intraperitoneal route provokes modifications of the brain stem auditory evoked potentials. These changes are complex: a) decrease of the amplitude of waves IV and V, probably by fixation on nicotinic type receptors, neuronal serotonin stores being normal; b) increase of the amplitude of waves I, I' and II, more important when endogenous stores are depleted; c) increase in the latency of these waves when serotonin stores are normal.  相似文献

We obtained reproducible cortical evoked potentials (EPs) in response to electrical stimulation of the rectum with 1 Hz frequency. We found 2 distinctly different EPs in response to rectal stimulation. In 5 females, the EP had an early onset latency (mean 26 msec) with multiple positive and negative peaks. In 10 females, the EP had a later onset latency (mean 52 msec) and a trifid configuration, having a very prominent negative peak. The early onset EPs after rectal stimulation appeared very similar to the wave form of the cortical EPs recorded after pudendal nerve stimulation. Finding similar interpeak latencies in the early onset EP after rectal stimulation and the EP after pudendal nerve stimulation suggests that either the same pathway was used or that rectal stimulation also stimulated the pudendal nerve. It appears that we stimulated visceral afferents when we recorded late onset EPs, because the large EP amplitude declined rapidly with faster stimulation rates and also with greater number of averaging, and the sensation threshold was very unstable, all different to somatosensory EPs.  相似文献

No comparative study about somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) on different rat strains has been done yet. It is evident that comparative SEP studies are important since different rat strains have different physiological properties. We aimed to compare early latency SEP values from stimulation of sciatic nerve in Wistar (Wr) and Sprague-Dawley (SDr) rats which are frequently used rat strains in experimental studies. In Wr group, the mean of first far field potential (Ff1) latency was shorter and the mean Ff1 amplitude was lower than that of Sprague-Dawley rat group. Mean cortical potential latency in Wr group was longer than that of SDr group while amplitude was not different. Central conduction time (CCT) in Wistar rat group was found to be longer than that of SDr group. Shorter Ff1 latency in Wr group implies that afferent volley reaches cervical posterior fasciculus from sciatic nerve earlier than SDr group while longer CP latency implies that afferent volley reaches cortex later than SDr group. Similarity between the latencies of lumbar potentials implies that peripheral conduction velocity has no effect on the difference of Ff1 latencies.  相似文献

Somatosensory evoked potentials were recorded in utero from 13 chronically instrumented fetal lambs (97 to 148 days of gestation) following electrical stimulation of the upper lip or upper limb. Several clear and reproducible peaks were observed. Following upper lip stimulation, peaks were seen with mean peak latencies of 9, 13.2, 17.8, 21.3, 33.8 and 206 ms at a gestational age of 125 days. Similar peaks, but of slightly later mean latencies, were seen following limb stimulation. These peaks demonstrated significant gestational age related falls in peak latencies (P less than 0.05). Several of the mid to late latency peaks, notably those occurring at 21.3, 33.8 and 206 ms, demonstrated changes (P less than 0.05) in both latency (longer in low voltage) and amplitude (reduced in low voltage) dependent on electrocorticographic state. Rate of stimulus presentation also had a significant effect on both amplitude and latency of several peaks (P less than 0.05) with this effect lessening with advancing gestational age. Evoked potentials can thus be successfully obtained from chronically instrumented fetal lambs and provide a useful indice for studies of neural maturation.  相似文献

The present study investigates the differential behavior of laser evoked brain potentials (LEPs), late auditory evoked potentials (AEP) and the endogenous P300 in response to morphine treatment, examined in 6 chronic pain patients. The main result was that in parallel with marked clinical pain relief, amplitudes of the long latency LEP positivity (P400) were significantly reduced under morphine. One patient suffering from extremely painful osteoporosis for 20 years exhibited a large middle latency component (N170) which was prominently attenuated by morphine. In contrast to LEP amplitude reductions, auditory N1 and P2 potentials appeared either unchanged or even enlarged during morphine treatment. Also P300 amplitude was slightly increased under morphine. Reaction time and mood scales also failed to indicate any sedation. Obviously, LEPs reflected specifically the analgesic morphine effect in this study, while stability or enhancement of AEPs and P300 during morphine treatment indicated lack of sedation or even improved perception and concentration due to the removal of persistent pain as a disruptive perceptual-cognitive stressor.  相似文献

Averaged evoked potentials (AEP) to verbal (letters) and nonverbal (random shapes) stimuli exposed in the left and right visual fields were registered in healthy subjects with normal vision. Analysis of the later AEP latencies pointed to asymmetry in the temporal parameters of the interhemispheric interaction. The late AEP latency is shorter in the right hemisphere than in the left hemisphere. The difference is more pronounced in responses to nonverbal stimuli. The earlier development of the evoked potential in the right hemisphere (or the later one in the left hemisphere) accounts for the interhemispheric difference in the temporal parameters of the late AEP components. Comparison of the latency of the component P300 to verbal and nonverbal stimuli presented in the ipsilateral or the contralateral visual fields reveals a transfer of the results of the cortical processing of visual information in the course of interhemispheric interaction.  相似文献

Acute cat experiments were conducted to study the effect of naloxone, moradol and dalargin on the formation of afferent reactions of gastroduodenal complex components by registration of cortical and subcortical evoked potentials during electrostimulation of the stomach and duodenum at an early stage of their acute lesion. It is found that agonists and antagonists of opiate receptors prevent the depression of afferentation of gastroduodenal complex components early after acute lesion. It is suggested that the main mechanism underlying the depression of gastric and duodenal afferent reactions at early post-alteration period may be related to activation of intraorganic opioid systems.  相似文献

Experiments were made on 7 adult male monkeys under nembutal anaesthesia (20-25 mg/kg, intravenously). The evoked potentials to electrical stimulation (0.5-50 mA) of the skin and kinestetic (5.10(3)-6.10(5)degrees/s2) stimulation of the proximal part of the forearm were recorded in the contralateral primary somatosensory cortex. The data obtained indicated direct relationship between the magnitude of angular acceleration and amplitude-temporary parameters of the kinestetic potentials. The threshold for their detections was equal approximately to 5.10(3) degrees/s. Maximum amplitude and the shortest latency were observed at accelerations 100 times higher than threshold ones. These data are compared with parameters of the evoked potentials to the electrical stimulation of the skin.  相似文献

To assess the role of different mechanisms in increasing the amplitude of the early components of cortical somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) in lesions of central structures of the skin-motor analyzer in humans, SSEPs of the hand cortical projection zones (the points C3 and C4) and the spinal dorsal column nuclei (DCN) were recorded in parallel in response to trancutaneous electrostimulation of the median nerve in the carpal region in two groups of subjects. The control group included 26 healthy volunteers aged 39–62 years; the other group included 12 patients aged 45–63 years with hemiplegia and sensory disorders due to a stroke experienced 8–24 months before the electrophysiological studies. A significant (from P < 0.05 to P < 0.01) increase in the amplitude of the early SSEP components of the intact hemisphere and several early SSEP components of the affected hemisphere (with a decrease in the amplitude of the other components) and no changes in DCN SSEPs were observed in the patients compared to the control group, which was interpreted as a manifestation of local mechanisms causing an isolated increase in cortical excitability without changes in the reactivity of DCN.  相似文献

When the insecticide parathion was administered to awake, unrestrained rats with chronically implanted brain electrodes, it was observed that the latency of the averaged flash-evoked potential in the visual cortex and superior colliculus was increased and the amplitude was decreased 2 to 4 hours later with responses returning to pretreatment levels about 8 hours after administration. Similarly, after administration of several dose levels of parathion in the rat, durations of phases of the maximal electroshock seizure (MES) pattern were altered to the greatest extent 4 hours later, but effects disappeared at 24 hours. These effects of parathion on the MES and evoked potentials coincided with a fall in blood and brain acetylcholinesterase (AChe) activities but disappeared after AChe inhibition had reached its peak and stabilized. Brain AChe activities required 2 to 4 weeks for recovery whereas blood AChe activity recovered in 1 week following inhibition by parathion (at least 2 mg/kg body weight). Studies in the monkey demonstrated similar results. Because these measurements of central nervous system function returned to normal despite continued inhibition of AChe activity, the results are interpreted to mean either that adaptation of evoked potentials or MES responses to prolonged AChe inhibition can occur in the rat and monkey after parathion administration or that some of the effects of parathion do not depend on AChe inhibition. Administration of DDT (100 mg/kg by mouth) to awake, unrestrained rats markedly increased the amplitude of spontaneous electrical activity in the cerebellum, whereas there was much less effect on electrical activity recorded simultaneously in the occipital cortex, reticular formation, and medial geniculate body. Similarly, DDT administration had marked effects on the averaged, sound evoked potential recorded in the cerebellum; DDT caused the appearance and increased the amplitude of an early component of this response not usually present during control recordings. Sound-evoked potentials recorded simultaneously from the frontal and occipital cortex and reticular formation were affected less or were decreased in amplitude by administration of DDT.  相似文献

The effects of glucocorticoid (dexamethasone) and mineralocorticoid (deoxycorticosterone) hormones on electrical excitability of nerve cells belonging to the dorsal and ventral horns of the spinal cord induced by stimulating the sciatic nerve, as well as background and evoked activity in single dorsal horn cells were investigated during experiments on adrenalectomized spinal rats using intracellular techniques for recording potential. Both hormones were found to produce mainly facilitatory effects in adrenalectomized animals, manifesting in increased background activity rates in single cells and higher amplitude of field potentials in nerve cells of the dorsal half of the spinal cord. It was shown that neuronal response followed different patterns in the ventral half of the spinal cord gray matter under the action of gluco- and mineralocorticoids: dexamethasone and deoxycorticosterone respectively increased and reduced the amplitude of field potentials in the motoneuronal region. Intracellular recording was used to investigate the modulatory effects of serotonin and octopamine on the identified synapses between filiform hair sensory afferents and giant interneurons in the first instar cockroach, Periplaneta americana. Serotonin at 10(-4) mol l(-1) to 10(-3) mol l(-1) reduced the amplitude of the lateral axon-to-ipsilateral giant interneuron 3 excitatory postsynaptic potentials. and octopamine at 10(-4) mol l(-1) increased their amplitude. Similar effects were seen on excitatory postsynaptic potentials in dorsal giant interneuron 6. Several lines of evidence suggest that both substances modulate the amplitude of excitatory postsynaptic potentials by acting presynaptically, rather than on the postsynaptic neuron. The fitting of simple binomial distributions to the postsynaptic potential amplitude histograms suggested that, for both serotonin and octopamine, the number of synaptic release sites was being modulated. Secondly, the amplitudes of miniature excitatory postsynaptic potentials recorded in the presence of tetrodotoxin were unaffected by either modulator. Finally, recordings from contralateral giant interneuron 3, which has two identifiable populations of synaptic inputs, showed that each modulator had a more pronounced effect on excitatory postsynaptic potentials evoked by the lateral axon than on those evoked by the medial axon. Immunocytochemistry confirmed that neuropilar processes containing serotonin are present in close proximity to these synapses.  相似文献

The effects of angiotensin II (A II), bombesin (B) and naloxone (N) on the amplitude of the late component of the evoked potentials of the cortex (EP) were studied by electrocutaneous (ECS) and tooth pulp (ETS) stimulation. An intraventricular (50 ng/kg) or intravenous (5 micrograms/kg) injections decreased the amplitude of the negative-positive component with a 20-40 ms latency (NP20-40) EP to ETS, but not to ECS. Saralasin (A II antagonist) injected intraventricularly (130 ng/kg) abolished this effect of A II in response to ETS. N intraventricular injections (30 micrograms/kg) increased the amplitude of NP20-40 EP to ETS, but not to ECS. B (intraventricular injection 20 ng/kg decreased the amplitude of NP20-40 EP to ECS, but not to ETS. This suggests there are the specific mechanisms in analgesia induced by A II and B in the pathways activated by ECS and ETS.  相似文献

Visual evoked potentials (VEPs) were recorded from a 53-year-old man with prosopagnosia during presentation of slides of known and unknown faces and under two control conditions. ANOVA comparisons with a normal male group showed no differences in P100 amplitude, P300 amplitude or P300 latency. There were no significant evoked potential differences between the patient and controls specifically related to the face conditions.There was, however, a significant delay in the latency of P100 from both hemispheres during all types of stimuli. This prolonged latency was asymmetrical, showing a right sided emphasis with the control conditions: pattern reversal and slides of geometric designs. This finding, of a dissociation in the interhemispheric delay, provides physiological evidence of stimulus-specific organisation at an early, sensory level.The fact that the P100 component showed a marked delay, yet P300 fell within normal limits for amplitude and latency, suggests that this patient's problem lies at a perceptual level.  相似文献
